seems soooo intimidating at first, i almost dropped the class after the first day, but made this class sooo interesting. she is a brillant lady and turned out to be one of my favortie profs!

I had a great time in her class. She was an awesome teacher who really knew her stuff. She made class fun and interesting. You should definitely take this class.

She scared me in the begining... I was concerned that for a class of 200, I would just be another number. But she got to know most of us individually. She really is passionate about what she teaches.. i learned a lot

This is the class to take if you go every day! You will not do well if you skip class b/c her tests use examples from class disscusions! Great teacher!

It was an ok class for me. I felt she was a little rude to people with differences of opinion sometimes. But all in all it wasn't that bad. I walked into the class thinking it was going to be really hard, but it turned out ok.

This is one of the most passionate teachers that I have ever had. The materil in the class is interesting, and her style of teaching deals with not simply "regurgitating" information back onto the tests. At least for our class no Fridays except

Fairly easy class if you go everday. Thorne is nice and very opinionated and honest.

Deb's a fun lady, but her class has strong feminist undertones. It is medium-hard. Some of of the test questions are misleading and confusing. Attendance is not required, but your grade will suffer if you don't go.

she is not only teaching about Soc, but also about life of how we should live, great teacher, very interesting, i am impress with her. tell great story and example, very active with class, and the class is very active too. A fun class

She's by far the best Prof. I've ever had here at OU. She made me wanna go to class everyday for no reason. She cancelled friday classes for the whole year, and didn't want students to come who didnt want to be there. She is extremely enthusiastic and willing to help anyone! TAKE THIS CLASS!

She single handedly got me interested in the field and here I am a year later and still extremely interested by it. She was so helpful that she met me at the Donkey to discuss class material. We ended up staying there for like an hour and a half talking about anything and everything. TAKE HER CLAS

Simply put Deb is the best teacher I have ever had. I enjoyed coming to class everyday, even in the winter.

Awesome class! Deb can make a 400 person class seem so small. Be ready to learn and participate because there is new topics covered every day. As long as you come to class every day prepared, you are sure to get an A.

Probably the best teacher on OU's campus. She's interesting, engaging, funny, and makes a 400 person class seem like 50. Go to class and get the notes off Blackboard, and you'll do fine.

Debb is pretty coo and really nice. If you eva wanna just ask her questions then you can always go to her ofice. On the other hand her test are all short answer, but you get a cheat sheet so its not too hard.Dont take the class if u mind getting called on.

Debb is most definitely the best prof. I've had at OU. She makes everything so interesting, and she is no doubt entertaining. Don't take this class if you don't do your homework or expect a lecture that you can just sleep through, she expects your participation.

Debb is an awesome professor - she opened my eyes and mind to a lot of things. She has a good sense of humor and is always willing to help. If you hate reading, there are lengthy articles to read each week, but most are interesting. Overall, a very interesting course w/ a terrific prof!

Debb is AWESOME! I was scared of her at first, but then realized how easy it was to keep up with her work. Do the readying, raise your hand and be part of the class, you will do really well and take the time to get to know her, she's cooler than you think!

Debb is the best professor I've had at OU. If you go to class and pay attention, you won't have any problems on the exams. I took one exam when I had the flu and still got an A--but they are only easy if you go to class! If you want an awesome class, take this one. But if you like to skip, don't even bother.

Great class - she presents A LOT of statistics so you can evaluate arguments & think critically. I learned so much about gender/racial/SES inequality. I liked the Stanford Prison Experiment video & analysis of Abu Ghraib the best. Downside: a ton of reading - I'm not used to such lengthy articles - and you must attend class to do well on tests.

I walked into that classroom thinking that soc 101 would be the class from hell. But Debb is so great. She doesn't hold anything back. She also talks about her personal life (nothing weird) which makes you see her as a real person rather than a freak with a microphone. As long as you attend class and read the majority of articles, you will do fine

Best professor I have had at OU! Debb always makes class interesting and makes students want to learn. I took this class thinking it would be lame lecture/notes because it is a 400-person class, but I was wrong. She encourages class participation and is really interested in student opinions. Excellent teacher, excellent (and fairly easy) class!

I LOVED Debb. This has definitely been my favorite class this year. You must go to class to get good grades on the tests, but going to class is worth it because it's interesting and entertaining. If you have the chance to take her, consider yourself lucky. She makes the material so relevant to life.

She's one sexy sexy mommy bird. Tests are not multiple choice, have to write stuff damnit. The grading is harsh, you have to explain indepth or points are taken off. Papers have to be 100% correct grammar or you drop from an A to B. No D's given. Come to class everyday or you miss important notes besides ones on Blackboard. Leave matches at home ok

Very easy class. Uses extremely funny examples. Sometimes can be a rough grader. But overall class was never boring.

Makes it easy to understand by relating material to the class personally. Usually not a boring class. You get the most out of it when you sit closer to the front and participate though. Show up to class or she'll give trick questions on exams.

Everyday feels like the first day of class in some ways because she brings the same amount of high energy that many teachers only have for the first couple classes, but then become less enthusiastic. Deb is great she is really smart and funny and relates to her students well. I really enjoyed going to her class and she was very helpful even when i became sick and missed two weeks of class. Schedule a meeting with her, you'll practically figure out your entire life.

She's very fair. If you do your readings and the ?'s that go with them and go to class you'll get an A/B. Not a lot of outside work. Most of the readings are interesting. She can make boring soc talk pretty easy to pay attention to and learn.

AWESOME professor. awesome. i didn't mind doing the readings because even in a class of 400, it was all discussion.. it was so interesting. and she let us use a notecard front and back for our exams. if you pay attention in class, though, you'll definitely get an A. she genuinely cares about her students, even if there are hundreds in one class.

Deb is great. She is very open-minded and approachable. The readings are really interesting, too. Discussion in class can be pretty boring, but Deb is just trying to make sure that everyone understands. Certainly one of the best professors I have ever had. Take her classes if you can!

This class peaked my interest in sociology like no other. It's mostly discussion based and the tests are short answer, making it one of the more interesting intro level classes in the school. Deb is smart, funny, and occasionally terrifying... but if you come to class and do the reading, you'll do well.. and have a pretty good time.

Her class was some what difficult but the note card for the tests really helped out. I would use size 8 font and write out all my notes on both sides. It is a very interesting class and gets everyone involved in entertaining discussions. She often likes to talk about her "drinking days." p.s. she uses almost the same tests every year.

My favorite class at OU and to date. I loved her, she was a great prof and definitely sparked my interest in soc as a major. I love how she made each and every class interesting and managed to incorporate so many students participation into a class of 400 or so. Take this class and make sure you go! i love going to class becuase she makes the discussions fun. she makes boring information not so boring, from her lectures. but if you dont like to answer questions in class, her class is not for you.

Amazing Professor, she knows sociology like the back of her hand. Go to class and open your mind and throw in your 2 sense in the discussions and you will be fine. No reason you cannot get an A!

Great teacher! Best prof I'v ever had. She makes class very interesting, she's down to earth when you talk to her. Go over powerpoints and take notes in class and you should do just fine.

Debb is great! Her lectures are always interesting and the discussions are so helpful. The readings suck, but coming to class for the lectures will help you get a good grade. She's very helpful in emails and takes time to get to know you. A cheat sheet is allowed on both exams and the final. Take her if you can!! :)

Dr. Thorne is by far my favorite professor I've had thus far. She is so personable and respectful of her students. The workload is not minimal but she tries hard to make sure it's interesting and manageable. She is a no bullsh*t kind of woman so don't bother trying to give excuses, just be honest and she'll like that. I very highly recommend Deb.

She is awesome! She's really funny and entertaining. We learn really relevant stuff in class. When my dad died, I talked to her about it and she sent a handwritten card to my house.

she is one of the most amazing teachers that i have ever had in my life. i looked forward to that class every tuesday and thursday. when the class ended and she had to leave, we all gave her a standing ovation. she's that good.

It was the only class I ever looked forward to. It was very interesting compared to what I've heard about other soc classes and she was very laid back. Your grade is only consisted of three exams so you have to read all the readings to do well, but she allows you to use a 3x5 cheat sheet which makes the exams pretty easy.

I loved this class and her enthusiasm made me come to class. even though the only grades we have are from papers that we use theories from the books i was still able to get an A in her class just from paying attention in class and participating in the discussion. Stop what you are doing and go register for this class! This is without a doubt the best class I have ever taken. You don't just sit there silently taking notes, its discussion based and it makes you think. Relatively easy A, but you need to go to class. Honestly though, with a prof/class as great as this, I looked forward to this class every time!

I took this class because Psycology was full. I don't even like Sociology, but this is THE BEST CLASS I HAVE EVER TAKEN. She says you need the ~$100 textbooks, but I never touched them and got an A. She's the best teacher at this University. Take this class! It's an easy A and a great time. She let's you use a 3x5 notecard on all of your exams.

Deb is the best professor I've had so far. She is so hilarious.Attendance is not mandatory but most test material comes from notes.I never bought the books.We discuss all readings in class.She has a list of all names and might call on you. Will get points deducted from test if she calls on you and youre not there. 400 student class.

Debb is an incredible teacher. Brings a lot of energy and humor. If you go to class, do the readings, and find an interest this should be an easy A. Everything on the test is talked about in detail in class. So attendance may not be mandatory, but it is highly recommended.

Debb was kind of awesome. She talked about how she was some farm kid/hippie, and still basically is. She managed to make a 400 person sized lecture a class discussion, and the material was pretty easy.

I had her twice as an undergrad and learned so much. She has perfected her discussion-focused teaching style! I am a grad student now and wish I could still take one of her classes!
