Had for chem lab only, but will help out/explain anything if you need it.
One of the best teachers I've had at PCC. She is probably the most demanding out of all the teachers...If you want to learn, take Wood.
great + helpful teacher, wants her students to succeed. u will learn a lot from her, expect to finish whole book + many chem. topics. have to earn grade in class, but her chem classes really prepare u for the future. (esp. nursing + health science majors)
Very friendly teacher who gives advices and pays attention to your grades in class. Teaches thoroughly. Notes are important in this class, and try not to miss any class at all, cause that will help those in border line (like me).
She is very organized and teaches well...You'll learn a lot from her class.
Very good and fair teacher. Really cares about how you are doing in the class, and very helpful if you need it. You can't get out of this class without learning a lot.
Mrs. Wood is a fantastic teacher. She always makes sure she is available for questions, or just to talk. Take her classes!
Mrs. Wood is by far the best chem prof. in PCC. Cares for her students not just as a teacher but almost as a mother. Hard quizzes, but will do fine if u study.
Mrs. Wood explains very good. She makes the class very interesting, plus she is really helpful. However, her quizzes are a little hard, but if you study you'll do good. I highly recommend her for a Chem class.
first person to make me understand and like chem. very approachable and she makes sure the class understands the topics. but tends to fall behind schedule and ends up not covering the last topics for the final well. go to her party at the end of semester!
Nice person. I have her for chemistry classes from chem 22 to chem 1B. She cares more than just your grade but also your life. She explains every topics clearly. You get more than just chemistry out of her classes. Must take her for your chem teacher.
very nice interesting an helpfull. every teacher should have the passion she has for teaching.
If you are willing to study, she is a wonderful teacher for you. She has neat notes and leature. She is really helping.
wow.cant believe other peeps think shes easy.yes i agree that she has really neat notes and lectures but she is not easy at all.she puts you down if you fail an exam. i was majoring in pharm and she told me to look into a diff major.
If you don't have very much patience, don't take this teacher. Lectures are so boring and tedious sometimes, you feel like dropping out of shcool and living in the jungle. She is nice and caring though, but NOT easy. I hope she dosen't read this, hah :)
She does not teach good at all. Even though I got an A in the class that's becasue I studies 24/7. She is an awful teacher. Take McKee.
One of the most admirable people in the world. Very helpful and supportive of her students. You're gonna have to work, but she makes it worth it. You go Mrs. Wood!!!
She is very hard and the test and quizes are issued from the deparment so it is pretty standard. She is very caring in regards to your progress even if it touches lots of personal aspects of your life. Overall very supportive in class and personal matters
Great teacher. She isn't afraid of getting personal with you if it's for your success. Thought it'd be hard to take this class in an intersession, but she made it fairly easy. Great story teller, I felt like I took more than just Chem 22. Great woman.
not a bad teacher at all. took her class for winter intersession. she got personal a lot and related chemistry to real life situations. her teaching style is pretty good. her quizes are kinda hard but her tests are not that difficult.
Mrs. Wood is very patient teacher. She is willingly to help you either in class or in her office. Her quizzes are pretty challenging (not really hard), but her exams are easy. However, you have to turn in your homework (from the textbook). >_<
Gets involved in your personal life-told me to look for another career, science was not for me-although I've loved science since I was 2 years old-basciall said go find yourself something else to do instead of science b/c if u stay, i wont pass you.
The previous rating is very harsh. If you fail in her chem 1B class (which looks like a kindergarden class), it'll take more than 15 years to get the pharmacy degree. If she let every student pass (including the dumb one), America's future will suffer.
This is a poor, poor teacher. Never cuts slack, hard quizzes that she can't even do herself. When lectures copies from her notes b/c she doesent know it herself. Never finished material made us work through lunch becuase she fell behind in the last mon
I truely do admire this teacher. Although she does have tough quizes, she prepares u well for the test. She makes sure u know what ur getting urself into. And she cares for her students dearly, giving them gentle chats throughout the course.
This lady is more interested in telling sob stories about how crappy her life is than teaching chemistry. She wastes time in class talking about stupid stuff and when it comes exam time be prepared to grab the edge of the lab bench because they are departmental exams. Not to mention condescending.
Woods is a good teacher mother like she'll baby your way through chem but if you want easy and an A go to ELAC
Although she is difficult, she definitely tries to motivate you along the way and makes sure your keeping up with the class. she talkes about her own life just to loosen up the class and to show a human side to her. She is an excellent professor.
Great teacher! her lecture is clear and helpful. she is really nice and polite to students! her quizzes are a little bit hard because chem is a hard subject no matter which teacher you will take.but Mrs. Wood will explain everything clearly. i learned a lot from her class.
She busts your ass throughout the semester with tests, quizes, and the notebook. Then when it comes to the final it's the easiest thing all semester. But it's totally worth it. I have a good grasp on chemistry. So if you can put the time into it take her.
her quiz seems easy, but her test is hard.
She's just great
her quizzes are harder than her exams.. but they prepare u for the exams.. she does talk alot about her so call sad life. she's always late to class and she always has an excuse..it's not that hard as long as u study and do ur homework.
One of the better teachers I have encountered. Mrs Wood makes it very clear from the first day what she espects. she is not easy, but she is consistant and clear and obviously knows her stuff. if you want to skate and not really learn anything shop around. If you want to leave a class knowing you can move on to the next level go with her
I had heard that she was the best chem professor at PCC and everyone who believes that they are very correct. Very clear and if you pay attention and do what she says you will do fine in chemistry.
1B was the hardest class I ever took at PCC and Wood did not even try to make it enjoyable. She's friendly but strict and takes points off for little mistakes (something crossed out instead of whited-out!) She has sitdown sessions with each student during labtime and discusses their progress. Some people may appreciate this but I just felt grilled.
Whoah; this class was like a military drill, but if you want to learn your subject, take Debra Wood. She's awesome and fearsome and knows her chemistry. Not only that, but she is VERY objective. She WILL NOT grade based on whether or not she likes or gets along with you...definitely take her; just remember to study.
She's clear and helpful. Her quizes are, of course, harder than the actual test. It is so because she wants you to learn more. Quizes are only 1/4 of your test. Over all, she is a great teacher and a good person. And yes, the class is somewhat hard because it is after all, chemistry...
She is a great teacher and really cares about the students. She is fair and demanding. If you are interested in Chem, take her, but if its just a requirement, still take her.
WARNING: DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER! She makes a difficult class even more difficult. I don't know who is writing all of these glowing accounts of her teaching style because they are simply not true. When I went to talk with her at one of her "counseling sessions ", she proceeded to draw a diagram of a hole in the ground in regards to my grade. NICE!
Shes a great teacher. She really cares about her students. The material is hard, but she does a very good job of explaining what you need to know. Best teacher I've ever had.
bad bad bad... she is TOOO MUCHHHHH... if u like xtra work take her... she will talk to u for 30 min. if u dec. to misss doing one assig..... dont get foooleddd...

she says she is not out to get you but she really is, 75% of the class dropped. she almost made me quit my major, she makes you hate the subject and makes your life miserable. a lot of people like her because she is tough but sometimes she doesnt know her limit. i think she had a toough life and lets it out on her students.
Man is she hard or what. She is probably one of the hardest Profs at PCC. Keep up in her class if you can. But drop it ASAP if you can't keep up with her within 2 weeks.
She is very tough, but fair. She is enthusiastic about teaching, knows her stuff and explains it well at a blistering pace. By the end of class, you will know your stuff and be prepared for 1A. Will take her again when possible.
very very hard!!!!! warning!!keep up or drop!!! no walk in the park.. very strict, but very knowledgable...
goes off on way too many tangents. she should stick to the syllabus and talk only about materials relevant to chem. explains the material fairly well though. i think it's a manageable class if ppl actually do the work and not expect to be spoon fed.
Chem 1B is a hard class because the material is hard, not the teacher. People who say that any teacher sucks are the ones that did bad. If you pay attention to her, go to class like u should, Chemistry is manageable. Getting an A is not impossible. Sure, I do hate her 'side-stories' though..she is no comedian. Her laughs are wicked like a witch
This comment is not necessarily for Dr. Wood. Its more for the PCC chem department (Wood is a pretty good prof) Their department tests are so hard and their labs r 2 long. They say that it's to prepare you when u get to good University. But what's the point of preparing u if u can't get into good university because of ur low GPA. Easen up a little.
Mrs. Wood is one of the best chem teacher you will meet in your lifetime. She is very smart and she knows the material really well. You will develop problem solving skill from her classes. She is like the motherly figure and wants all her students to be successed. You will stay the whole class period though.
Mrs.Wood is one of those elementary school teacher who are too stingy and strict on minor things...such as tardy, class regulation, etc. However, she does her job very well, so well that reading the chem book is quite pointless. Her quiz is fair, but extremely harsh on the time limit. Personally I am scared of her and her wicked laugh...
she tries hard to teach, but she isnt organized enough, notes everywhere on the board. she laughs like a witch. very strict on time limits on exams, quizes, and unknowns. forces students to do extra questions behind the book, if not u get a shout at your face... really doing her job, but dont really know how to teach, and also side talk too much
Wonderful professor. I cannot say enough good things about her. The material is tough, but she explains it thouroughly and expects the same from her students. Many students confuse this with being a hard teacher. She is fair and the quizzes and tests reflect the material, although the time limit on the quizzes i feel is too short.
SHE TRIES TO BE TOUGH AND MEAN BECAUSE SHE THINKS IT WILL GET HER RESPECT. TOLD ME I WAS GOING TO FAIL HER CLASS TWICE, INCLUDUNG ON THE FIRST DAY! AFTER THE CLASS GOT GOING SHE GREW TO LOVE ME! ALWAYS WILLING TO HELP YOU BUT BE WARNED, SHE WILL BELITTLE YOU NO MATTER WHAT! SHE CARES ABOUT HER STUDENTS..TAKE HER BUT WORK HARD! ITS A HARD CLASS
teacher is awsome.....she is sooo smart, her lectures are all you need to know for quizzes and exams, i rarely used my book except for those long hw assignments. material is tough, not the professor. If you study the notes you will do fine.
Mrs. Wood is a very tough professor. Her class is either sink or swim. She is very nitpicky on her exams so you have to be perfect. She has very high standards. Sometimes she rambles too much about her son, her daughter, and her favorite subject global warming. She shouldn't try to push her political opinions upon her students though.
Mostly from the book, lectures are outline form. not my style. I didn't think class time was always effectivly used. Lots of preaching about global warming (Al Gore). The hell fire and brimstone (fear stuff) before exams or quizzes would be hard to justify from any educational theory. Generally avoid short classes as the stress gets to Ms. Wood.
i hate it
Only take her for CHEM 22 (period)! After chem 22, her class would be hell. I thought she was an excellent professor for chemistry, so i took for chem 1B, but dropped the class after the 1st day. She's just not that good at explaining the 1B material. If you want a good chem 22 prof., take her, but stop afterward.
great teacher. must work hard to passs. high expectation from students. prepare students for future. very fair. very cary and altruism.if you want to learn ,take ms wood. awesome teacher.if you want an A do your homework.keep on with your great job
No professor can hold a candle to her.
Mrs. WOOD is a gud teacher,, she teaches and explains so clear,, and take not,, she will not test you on whichever she hasn't taught yet..so don't worry, just take good notes, and study well then you'll be fine,,she's a little bit funny..but it's fine,,her quizzes and tests are so easy,, but just the first test is difficult,,i know her point..hahah
she is intelligent professor, she makes class hard, tests are tricky.
Ms Woods definitely knows her subject matter, but tends to be a bit condescending and patronizing during lecture. Her exams follow her lecture, which follows the book and problems from the text. I would recommend older students take her over younger.
If you want a minister or a mommy, take her. she really cares but she also gets very personal and does lots of "chats". she is like preacher!
This prof is something else,(tests, quizes are crazy),have to write ethical essay(BS),talk about her life, if there is any other teachers take others, she makes everything harder.Scares her students about the grades.
If you have choices of other teachers, take others because she likes to take points away, so the class have a huge distribution of grades, especially c,d,f's. And she will proud of it. Have to write ethics paper and presentation, which they will take away points from 10-30 points, WHY???. Quizes and tests are hard and she will not put in the note.
Study the notes from her lectures and you will do fine on the tests. She has a kind heart and she really knows her stuff. This class requires a lot of blood, sweat and tears, so brace yourself. (no matter who you take)
Simply impossible, and proud of it. Material did not seem that difficult in lecture, but tests were horrible, including the cumulative final. Two experiments per night; not enough time to absorb objectives, and uncomfortable working environment (30 people at 4 hoods). A gatekeeper- advised many to switch career paths. DH majors watch out!
beware! she preents herself as a christian but she is mean mean mean, especially if you had another teacher for chem 2a. she thinks she is he best and she puts other teachers down. watch out for her preacher chats - she is very judgmental but pretends to be open-minded. stay away!
great teacher to get you prepared for the next level. you must completely understand her notes, go over the class problems to get at least a B. to get a A. as she would say it is in the details.got a b+.would of got an A. if it wasnt for all those sig fig deductions throughout the semester.test have harder versions of class problems.final easy
She Is the wort teacher i had ever taken. Her lectures are not clear at all. she put students down. Her test are hard and they dont even match the notes. IF U CAN AVOID TAKING HER!!!!!!!!!!
She goes off on tangents that dont have to do with chem and somehow jumps back into lecture... its hard to take notes with her random babbling. if i were you i would try very hard to get another professor at ALL COSTS!!! she pretends to care when she doesnt at all and she's very judgemental...
suck suck suck!! don't take this class!! if u've registered for it, drop it..if u reallly need the class..take it somewhere else. She puts up a caring facade, but makes u feel stupid when u ask questions...she spends more time telling non-relevant stories than teaching the lesson...but still expect you to know every detail of the book. hence, suck!
I never understood chemistry until I took it with her and got a B. All you have to do is copy down whatever notes she writes on the board and memorize them somehow. (I wrote them over and over again.) Also do all the homework. If you're struggling, find a peer who's doing better than you or a tutor that you click with and pick their brains.
Avoid at all costs!!! Extremely condecending,She leaves zero margin for error. It amazes me that she can get away with that. With the high costs of books, and her lack of compassion... it's a complete waste of time unless you already have a knowlege base prior to taking her class. Also need to be quick at learning all the concepts!
IF YOU ARE LAZY...DON'T WASTE HER TIME. TAKE SOMEONE LIKE MCKEE WHO NEVER LECTURES. SHE WILL CHALLENGE YOU AND ACTUALLY GIVE YOU HOMEWORK, BUT HONESTLY...I NEVER UNDERSTOOD CHEMISTRY UNTIL I TOOK HER. SHE DOES GO OFF TOPIC AT TIMES AND TELL STORIES BUT THEY'RE PRETTY FUNNY STORIES. I WOULD ABSOLUTELY TAKE THIS CLASS IF YOU ACTUALLY WANT TO LEARN.
Truth be told Dr. Wood is both loved & disliked. Here is why, she is tough but in a challenging way. She pushes students to strive for great achievements not only in the class material but she also inserts good ethics into her lectures, not to mention the ethics paper she requires. If you want a solid & well taught Chemistry experience take her.
Mrs. Wood is pretty good at teaching a very hard subject. You MUST do all the homework and study a lot to pass. Use the tutors too, some are pretty good, one is even cute. Dont take a lot of other hard classes and this one, chem 2A will take a lot of your time. Mrs. Wood is OK, it is just a hard subject.
She's very INTENSE and makes very clear she got her point accross on ethical issues. She teaches Chemistry well, and you better spend a lot of time reading word for word and answering all the questions in the book. She makes you keep a note book to turn in of all your home work to be graded. Her tests are not exactly from the book.Do not be late!
If you know your chem, than you will be okay. But if you don't have a background in chemistry you might run into trouble, but you will definately will learn something, Dr. Wood pushes you to learn, and will assign tremedous amounts of homework tha is due on test day. she will give you eleven quizes, five exams and a final. Nice lady, hard class.
She's very nice n explain really clear. I got an A in her class, but you need hard work for that!
Very Nice person, very hard class, allot of homewrok. I am so glad i took this class.
i took her for 1a and she was really helpful. answered questions, told us exactly what to study for the test. would take her again over the others.
took Chem 2B with her. she was helpful, explain the concept very clearly. The tests were a bit hard. you need to study hard to get A. I'm so glad that i took her class.
TAKE HER! you will not regret it. patient, clear professor. i took ansari for 22 he was too fast and didnt like some students from day 1. much better experience. got an A.
my favorite chem teacher at pcc :) and ive had my fair share.
Ms.Wood is the an extrodinary teacher and i learned so much in her class i cant tell you. if you are lucky enough to get into her class you should. you wont regret it.
she is not an easy teacher, she requires us to write an ethical papers, we have test or quizzes almost every week!not recommending anyone to take her
she is hard definitely. she gives no extra credit or curves. a lot of homework!not recommend anyone to take her
her lecture is not really clear. sometimes it confuses me more!
What a nice teacher. She takes care of everything about you. She only have a little homework so you dont need to spend too much time on it. tests are a little bit hard but they arent if you do all the homework.
What an awful experience being in her class was. Sometimes she would go off on these 30-45 minute tangents about her kids, her heart condition, her divorce, how she kept her wedding ring afterwards, and all this information useless to studying Chemistry, but yet there was no time to, as she put it, "review what you already learned in Chem 21" WTF
She is hard but she is very helpful
She is a very emotional person. Rants constantly about her life wasting a lot of class time, and then takes away all the breaks and lunch time to make up for it. She is a good teacher if you can put up with her. Gives lots of homework, but is otherwise a very fair class.

She's a very stressful and intense teacher, which stresses me out as a student. I came into her class eager to learn, but dropped the class. She constantly patronizes and belittles her students. I am not interested hearing her personal life stories and opinions that last for over 2 hours.
She is horrible! don't take her! she's very emotional and complains alot! You don't learn a thing in her class and she just rambles on and on about her kids and her personal life. we don't care! just give us our grade and we're out!
This class reminded me of a kindergarten class where the teacher had to remind you everyday to do homework and not cheat on tests. Then every once in while you get a story where there would be some moral to it and at the end of the day, you realize how little chemistry you actually learned.
Her class is hard! no matter how hard you study for her quiz, the result will always be disappointed. She tried to trick us on every single quiz. And yes, she always talk about her personal life and wasting lots of class time, then when she realized we are far behind the schedule, she will tries to make it up by throwing all to us at one. Goodluck.
requires you to think outside of the box.test/quiz will be harder than the e.g in class. notebook hw is optional but its better to do it since she'll consider if you have border-line grade later. clear lectures but sometimes she gets off topics or use lab time to lecture. sometimes late so she has to rush the lecture.her jokes are fun and enjoyable
OMG u guys have to be stupid to take anyone else. shes not easy, but she prepares you so well for higher level chem classes. and its no joke...u better study harder on her quizzes than her tests. HW is alot.but not mandatory...ull see why. shes nice and approachable. A+ Professor
Her Quiz are very hard, but she's really helpful. I would recommend to take her in Chem22 because she will prepare you well for Chem1a, but I wouldn't recommend you to take her for chem1a or chem1b because in her class, you will learn a lot more than other chem class, but you will not get a good grade since her quiz and test are hardcore, and for t
Best teacher ever!! Ok people, we're in college, we are expected to do some work here. As long as you give the course some effort then you'll do great! I personally aced the class and science is my worst subject
I timed her and often she literally spent 50% of the class ranting about her appropriate personal opinions. She knows she has you as a captive audience and uses it to torture you. This is a challenging subject, yet she makes it harder by avoiding actual helpful teaching. Hang in there! Don?t give up on Chemistry because of this desperate person.
Class is hard because the teacher talks a lot about her own problems rather then spending her the time to explain the material or lecture. End up relying on the book to do hw.
She's always coming in late. Then takes 10 minutes to explain why she was late. It's often a over-dramatic-end-of-the-world-tragic-i-still-came-through-to-help-you speeches. My class wanted to make a youtube video compiling all her speeches and stories.
She does share a lot about her personal life, but this year was def. worse..she even told us. She is funny, has a weird laugh..kinda freaky actually lol. One positive thing is that she is caring, negative: if you suck at chem she will tell you personally that u should consider being something else..U'll have fun, but overall hard class.
She is a great teacher! Her class is not easy, but as long as you study hard you will get a good grade. If you want to learn the real chemistry and interest in chem, take her class.
Class environment hectic. Added pressure due to integration of personal life stories/emotions. Professor is motherly/knowledgeable/dramatic. Lectures are clear when actually started. Book use is heavy on practice. Quiz/Test cover chapters/lectures. Class is a challenge of your tolerance/emotional intelligence/drive. Review material before going in.
She is absolutely incompetent this semester. She explains basic things like conversions for 2 weeks straight, then does about 3 minutes of valence electrons. She doesn't know what shes talking about and picks at every insignificant thing.
She definitely starts off alright then her expectations, speed, and work grow exponentially as you continue. She always floods you with more information right before a quiz/test so it stresses you out more beforehand. She teaches as if we have no other classes, job, or life, but tells us she always understands us. Actions speak otherwise.
I knew this class wouldnt be easy, but i didnt think she would SUCH a harsh grader....which made it all the more harder. i know its college and of course studying and slacking off is out of the question, but i was hoping she would cut the class some slack and go easy on our exams, basically shes a tough teacher (which she admits!!) Not very helful.
omgosh such a stressful classss! anything she puts on the board is "fair game" -_- , sometimes shell teach things before quizes and says its not hard which isnt fair, tough grader no extra credit no make ups or and her Final is cumulative! she means well but makes it hard to do well sence shes one of PCC's toughest professors....
Though she talks about her life too much.. she means well with it. Overall she is a good professor, great lecturer, and very knowledgeable in Chemistry. Her exams are challenging and hard. If you are going to slack off in this class and not put in the work, I highly recommend not taking this class because you will end up either failing or dropping.
Ok people if you want to learn any chem then take her class.. if you are looking for an easy A then don't take her. She's a hard grader but overall a good teacher. She will go out of her way to make sure you understand the materiel. you just need to go see her.
Ok this professor is not hlpful, she blames the subject n says it is what it is chem is hard, she doestn make it easier and doesnt help for her students to get the material.she gets way to personal ad into the students life. her class was very stressful I regret taking it, she is very discouraging shell come n tell u to drop the first day VERY RUDE!!
Best profesor I ever had. She explains material well and she cares for students.
Ms. Woods is one of the best professors I ever had. Yes, she says Chem is hard and it is_specially if you don't study hard. But she helps you understand the material by explaining it well. And she is great help if you go to her office. You will learn in her class!
She should teach philosophy. We had to listen of hours of personal stuff that had nothing to do with chemistry. She knew about chemistry but we sure had to wait until she was ready to talk about it.
I found her to be too difficult for me. She is definitely knowledgeable and very passionate about her profession. She does have a tendency to become overzealous and intense at times. Transferred to another professor due to teacher-student incompatibility.
This teacher really sucks, do not take
Challenging class, but never have I felt like I truly learned something about chemistry directly related to medicine, so glad I took this class with her. Quizzes are far more difficult than exams and are meant to scare. She is always late, rushed, and a little disorganized, but lectures are very clear and helpful. Homework was optional but helpful
Very good instructor with real passion for Chemistry! However, she's a tough grader. The quizzes are mostly essay answers that require the SPECIFIC KEYWORDS she used during her lecture (take good notes). On the first exam she will do her lecture first and then give the exam. So don't cram! Still I came back from a C to an A by acing the final!
She's passionate, caring, and fun. I would not have passed without study groups. Hmwk is optional. She tries to stick to the syllabus but usually ends up nixing some things dt lectures going long bc the material is hard. This class will drain you. You will get frustrated. If you're not SURE you can commit to this level of work, abstain.
Worst professor EVER. She puts students down all day. If your not doing well in the class and ask for her help she makes you feel horrible about yourself and tells you drop the class and to change your major. She told me I must have a learning disability and to go get it checked out. She should not teach, she doesn't enjoy working with people.
I took her for Spring 2015, she is delightful. Go into class expecting to respect her, and it's not an easy course she does make it easier, just stay in the game. Don't expect an easy A, you have or want to take this class for a reason, extract the most you can.
She does not give pop quizzes and is very passionate to help students succeed. Can always go to office hours for help. She will work with students to determine exam days and prepares you for exams well. As long as you try and do your best you can pass
Do not take her class! She talks a lot of her personal stories. Her teaching is very confusing! If you take her class, you will regret!
Professor Wood is very passionate about student success. She is a good professor and is easy to understand. No personal stories when I took her this semester but I will say that we do spend a lot of time in class learning new material. 8 quizzes and lowest dropped. 4 exams. 1 cumulative final and there is an ethics paper. Intense good class.
ok so she's a great person but omg she spends one third of the class talking about life. we would spend an extra hour after class every class meeting just to catch up! Gives a lot of hw too! if your looking for an "easy A", not gonna happen!
Hardest class I've ever taken. And it's my only one this semester. Such a fast paced teacher, often times all over the place and off topic. Doesn't provide many examples for math problems since it's a prereq and you " should already know ". Nazi about cheating.. I feel like I'm in elementary again. No study guides for tests. Would not take again.
Can't afford to miss any classes. This is the first time I've ever had a class that I dedicated most of my time too but still barely made the cut because I was overextended. If you're going to take this class, be sure you can commit. As for the material itself, this teacher is passionate and dedicated and you have to be as well if you want that A.
She manipulates students to choose an exam date(she says you can vote but pressures you towards an answer) even when it's her fault we're so seriously behind. Often times you will be having a quiz and exam the same week. Prepare to be seriously stressed out! the only pro: she makes her own quizzes/exams. She should just be a life coach. D:
I would stay away from this professor. She's nice and all, but REALLY tough grader, maybe an unfair one. For her exams, she will find every way possible to confuse the hell out of you. She will spend HALF of lecture talking about her son and then complain about being 2 lectures behind. Would not recommend.
She knows what she is talking about and really cares about her students, but she won't slow pitch the class. Quizzes are tricker than her test. How to do well in her class 1: Show up to every class. 2: Do all the homework 3: Most importantly find out who did the best on the first quiz and start studying with them ASAP.
She's a very good professor. I took her for Chem 2A and will be taking her again for Chem 2B. She is tough, but she's willing to help you learn. You have to work hard for her classes and that is a good preparation for the final. The final is actually easier than the quizzes and the exams given throughout the semester. Highly recommended!
Professor Wood is a very nice lady, and she really seems to care but man is she a tough grader. Homework is assigned and she marks it but isn't worth a single point. She does tend to get off topic often and later says how far behind we are. Day one of the class there were 32 students. By the end there were only 12 left.
Professor Wood cares about her students. Although she does not grade homework (which she assigned a lot of), it was well worth it in the end. Her quizzes are a lot harder then her exams. She gives review packets for test: 4 tests, 8 quizzes(lowest drop). You must show up and do hw. The final exam was easier then her (own written) exams & quizzes.
Prof wood is intense! She really cares so that is why is is always very vocal about the challenges that the class presents. I have No background in chem and have been able to gradually get a grasp on it. If you want it easy this isnt for you. Prof wood has many insightful things outside of chem to teach. Love when you can learn about life in class
Prof Wood was one of THE WORST professors I've ever had in my life. She loves to take up class time by talking about her personal life; her ex-husband and "wonderful son". She is extremely condescending and will waste as much time as possible lecturing students for being late. She has made multiple students cry by putting them down. She is horrid.
If you work well under pressure & in a fast-paced environment she is your Prof. You don't understand her style of teaching she will judge you & tell you to reconsider your major. Take negative reviews into consideration, will load chapters on you, always falling behind it felt like I was in a 6-week class. she may or may not work for you. Good Luck
Professor Wood's Chem 2A class was a challenging but enjoyable class. To survive she encourages student study groups, which actually works. Her class is on a curved scale so an 86%A; 74%B. She is HW heavy and very thorough with the material, but extremely fair and gives a lot of extra credit. Pay close attention and take the class seriously!
The worst Prof. I have ever had. Wouldn't take questions in class, lots of homework that wasn't mandatory but would count against you if you didn't do it. You could give a 100% correct answer, but if she didn't like the wording, you loose points. Lots of time wasted on her personal stories. AVOID
I took her 2A class in this 2018Spring. Professor Wood is a rich experience instructor. She knows students problems, so she will give you the best suggestion. Her lecture notes are amazing, she writes all notes on the board. Follow her steps, do all assignments you will study a lot. Anyhow, if you don't like intense study way, avoid her class.
She truly cares for her students and will do whatever she can to help you. Biggest complaint is that she wastes SO MUCH time ranting about irrelevant material. Be aware that the class will probably be behind in lessons and she will probably rush. It is a fast pace class so be prepared to work your butt off. Study and do hw and you should b fine.
2A was mostly a math-based class where if you write the notes she puts on the board and study the material pretty well you'll be fine. However, her 2B class was the hardest class I have ever taken at PCC. She is super detailed oriented so if you miss one small detail in your response you're bound to lose points. Take her class if you have time.
Want to cry and be belitted by a woman who takes her job WAY to seriously? Take her. Seriously. She skipped her sisters funeral to teach community college chemistry. She seems nice, but she wastes time, and is generally awful if you question her authority. If you don't do hw in the first 2 weeks she will drop you.
#DebraWood has good intentions however her execution as a teacher misses the mark on what it mean to be a TEACHER. Copious amounts of homework but does not grade it, ultimately a distraction from studying for test and quizzes. She talks down to students. You need to memorize her way of saying things, your understanding/interpretation is WRONG.
Prof really cares about her students and makes it her goal for them to pass. That being said, if you don't earn it, you won't get it. Be ready to study and complete all the homework for any credit. Shares lots of personal stories, mostly to relate the subject material to real-life.
Professor wood is a great Professor. You definitely have to work for the A. HW is optional but most students dont do it then do poorly and wonder why. Had a great first experience with chemistry with prof wood. Would recommend.
Never worked so hard for any class at PCC. As others have said, HW is not graded but she checks it for credit. Free response questions on quizzes require detailed explanations. She goes off on tangents and wonders why we are behind. Quizzes and tests almost every week, lab HW, textbook HW, a 10 page research paper, a final presentation. Don't do it
My class was the guinea pigs, we transitioned during the pandemic. It's a lecture heavy class with both mandatory attendance and youtube videos. She gives a lot of homework (it is worth no points). She is very caring and tries to get to know each student that reaches out. Tests are a huge part of your grade & I hope you have a lot of time.
joined zoom sessions at 9:30 so she can start teaching at 11am. Waste of time, always goes on tangents and never gets straight to the point. Assigns crazy amount of homework and doesn't even give credit for it. LOVES to talk about her life during lecture time resulting in you learning on your own. If you learn the set up a diff way she knocks pts..
She talks a lot off topic about her life and non related chemistry lectures. Shes rude and cuts students off by making them feel dumb when you ask her a question that you dont understand. Lots of homework, pop quizzes, and heavy lectures. Attendance on zoom is MANDATORY. she will get mad and give you a 0 if you dont show your zoom feed or face.
Prof. wood is by far the worst science professor I have encountered. She does not teach and expects you to know everything before coming to class. She goes off topic a lot and talks about her husband's and past life. DO NOT BELIEVE ANY OF THE POSITIVE REVIEWS. YOU WILL REGRET TAKING HER AND IT WILL AFFECT YOUR GPA.
