I absolutely enjoy this professor, she is not only a fun professor, but just a fun person to be around. I was very scared to take her Fundamentals of Speech class, having social issues I don't like being in crowds, let alone speaking in front of them. But she makes the class very relaxed, and makes sure her students are as respectful as she is.

Read the book and show up! Very fun class and you'll get to know your classmates very well. 3 online tests, 2 papers and participate. Very enjoyable and you will learn applicable skills for life. A must take! Dee is awesome and very down to earth. You don't have to bring your book to class, so I rec checking it out in the library to read.

Dee's class is one that does exactly what it is supposed to do. She is very clear on what she needs to teach you and how to accomplish that. You will leave her class a better speaker and more comfortable and confident with public speaking. Tests are challenging, but all the answers are in the book. Take her class and be engaged and entertained!!!!

Dee is a great teacher. When I first signed up for speech I was like ok another pre req. But she is an amazing teacher. The quizzes come straight from the book so u do have to give it a couple of good reads n u will b ok.

Prof. D was an amazing teacher. I enjoyed every class I had. Her anecdotes are occasionally hilarious and always fun to hear. Her teaching method is friendly, to the point and helpful. Words of advice: Pick your ONE TOPIC with great care & thought. Do not expect a free ride. Observe your classmates. (HINT!! Final MAY BE A GROUP THING)

She was very helpful, and I knew what was expected of me most of the time. Lots of work, but we were able to use campus days to give speech, DO IT. Work was a tad challenging with how much was given for speech and tests were harder. Def. would recommend her and the online class with the campus days. She took FOREVER to grade anything.

Dee is like an extra mom who is also your best friend. She is a middle aged southern woman who plays World of Warcraft, and is hilarious. She'll lecture you, but will always look out for you also. She makes public speaking bearable and relaxed, even for someone dreading it. Only one written test,rest were speeches. Overall fantastic professor!

She is a great professor, with a lot of prior experience. The course was fun.

Professor Mathison is very personable. However, she is also a little scatterbrained. Grades take forever to post, grading rubrics and grading had lots of mistakes, and grades put into blackboard had errors (keep an eye on your grades once they are posted). She is a wonderful, friendly person, but a bit scatterbrained.

Miss Dee is the best speech instructor! She had fun, organized, clear lectures. Only one test (midterm), various speeches, and the final was a fun group project. Dee was very understanding and easy to talk to. I have severe social anxiety and was able to pass with an A! Miss Dee is experienced and knowledgeable about her subject. Don't be afraid!

You won't be sorry in Dee's class unless you're a total good off. Then be prepared to learn some hard lessons!

What can I say, Dee is an amazing instructor. Her southern draw is not is not too thick but she is proud of her roots. Dee will work with and for you if you do your part. She is there for you in more than her class but don't try to take advantage of her. You will make this ginger snap. She is a teacher that one must take in their career. Do it.

Prof. Mathison is not only the best communicator on campus, she can show you how to be as well. Energetic, knowledgeable, and applies everything into real-world situations - nothing is "busy work". Great Instructor, great personality, and a quick wit make this instructor well worth the time.

Dee was a great professor! Funny, outgoing, smart, firm, with extremely clear expectations. She is a tough grader (I'm a top student and barely squeaked by with an A, despite acing debate and speech in high school). You will have to work for an A! There's a group debate for the final, which wasn't too bad. Follow directions exactly, you'll do fine.

Absolutely phenomenal instructor! She gives amazing feedback on speeches & what you'll need to improve upon. I highly recommend her to anyone looking to take speech. I took her this summer and it was by far my favorite class. That says a lot considering I'm a science major. Take her -- you won't regret it. Her southern drawl is simply beautiful!

Dee is absolutely the best speech teacher. She's respected, sweet, and understanding. She has you write 3 speeches on 1 topic. It is super easy. However, the midterm is all based on the book. If you don't read the book? You probably won't pass your midterm, which impacts your grade significantly. Take her, if you know you'll put in the work!

Great teacher! She gave amazing advice in her class. Midterm was ridiculous though, questions you don't even go over. You don't use you book at all. Close to be a tough grader, if you dot use eye contact you will not get an A. Other then that I loved going to her class everyday, she wonderful.

The textbook definitely helps. Going to class isn't a requirement, just have to show up for speeches.

Dee's class was my absolute favorite this last semester! She is a fantastic speaker and is clearly very passionate about her subject. I definitely recommend taking her for Speech!

Dee is very sweet. Just do the work and you'll pass. I ended up with over 100% in the class. attendance is only mandatory if you take her regular class. However, if you take her "game-ified" class just show up on your speech days and test days. Your final is a speech and she's a very fair grader. Can't beat that. :-)

I was so so nervous to take this class, but Dee made me feel at ease (even with my anxiety). She really does care about the students. I never cracked the book open, but I took good notes through her lectures. She made the material fun and easy to learn.

Took the gamified hybrid version of this course. She was super fun, laid back and helpful. I went into it hating the idea of speech, but she was super cool about it.

LOVE this professor. She is super funny, and down to earth. She is one of the only teachers I have been willing and able to talk to about assignments and requirements. She is quick to respond to emails and is very willing to help in any way possible as long as you are respectful to her. She will not put up with any crap. My favorite professor yet!

I took the gamified class which is basically 30% of your homework score a lot of it seem like it should have been extra credit since you have to do a lot outside of class on your own time example getting Si sessions that r mandatory . I feel like her reg lecture is better. but she is very good and helpful with speeches and nice.

I recommend no matter how much you hate games to take her game version of the class. You learn so much more exspecially if you are a hands on learner because the class is a big game. Attendance isnt required at all but if you want the XP you need to show up. Shes super caring a great teacher beyond words and makes speech easy and understandable.

She is extremely understanding, and lenient on grades. However, for her online course, she hasn't graded anything since February 5th and it's now April 7th.

Took the gaming course, and I'd recommend that course over the regular one - chances for a bit of extra credit and it's super fun. The only hard part is actually going up and speaking but that's a given with a speech course. She's hilarious and I couldn't recommend her more.

This class was in-person but also had a game incorporated online. The game was alright but your score on the game slightly impacted your grade in the class. Read the chapters in the book and you'll do fine in the class.

Ms. Dee was so awesome!! Loved the gaming version, but be prepared to work in groups and with everyone in the class, this is not just a sit and listen type of class, you will be participating if you take this gaming version, but I feel it really gets everyone to know each other. Highly recommend. She is sweet, funny, and very understanding.

Dee Mathison is one of the best professors Ive ever had. Shes genuinely caring and respectful to her students and whats them to succeed. Of course you have to work and participate but she makes the course fun and easier to navigate. 10/10 would recommend.

She makes the course exciting and stress-free. Don't buy the book, she goes over it better in her lectures and summarizes chapters. You'll do about four "real" speeches in her class: introduction piece, research paper, argumentative essay, and a group argumentative essay project. She's the nicest teacher I've ever had. I took it before covid fyi.

Professor Mathison is great! Super helpful, I always stayed after class to talk to her and never had any issues reaching out to her that way. Talk in class, and if you're on a zoom turn your camera on and she'll like you 10x better. She's super caring and understanding, if you miss a class here and there you'd b fine just don't miss speech days.

I took the "game version" of the class. You do have to buy the book since you use it to turn in assignments. There is very little homework, and you do have to work with others often. Dee was a little disorganized, but the class itself is pretty easygoing even though I'm a terrible public speaker.

She grades very generously and is clear about what she expects in assignments and speeches. She makes the class easy but you still learn a lot from her. I took her in the summer and there were some problems with her schedule, but that's only because it was her first time using canvas. She was easy to reach and fixed the problems immediately!

Dee as a person seems to be a little disorganized at times so it is important to pay attention in her class so you don't miss something important. She tries her best to make the class fun and keep everyone involved. Her grading is fair, my only problem with her is she does not post her lectures or power points and they aren't in the book, take note

Dee tries to make the class fun, I took her class online and it based around a game where your grade depends on XP you get. I liked the approach to this course. She gave us all A's on our first speech but she expects to see improvement.

Dee is one of the nicest teachers I know.She is very accessible and will find any way to help you. Her classes are Extra credit heavy. and I would recommend coming to class. She had this online game textbook that was kind off a nightmare to work with but it is easy points and she provides amazing feedback. Using her rubric for the speeches is best!

Loved Mathison! She offers a new way of learning through an online game textbook, which offers major extra credit. Showing up to class helps with learning, but it's not required. Took me 1-2 weeks to figure out the textbook, but overall it was a good experience once learned. Ended with over 100% in the class even with speeches that didn't go well.

Dee is caring, supportive, and loves her field. Even if you are not good at public speaking there are a lot of extra credit opportunities to make up for it. She did not teach how to make a good powerpoint even though it was required for the last speech but did offer to help you make one if needed. Bear with her as she is still developing the class.

She is very understanding about public speaking anxiety. She is a very easy grader. The only downside is YOU CAN NOT get ahold of her outside of class. I was unable to turn in some assignments due to an error in canvas and attempted to contact her ... she never replied. her due dates and formats on canvas are confusing.

Dee created an online gaming course for her communications class which was extremely helpful and interactive. Her class was my favorite one that I've taken thus far despite my fear of public speaking. She cares about each student and is extremely fair. She just wants to see everyone succeed and enjoy learning! 10/10 recommend. You won't regret it.

Such a fun, easy class. She was a great teacher with a great attitude and sense of humor. She grades fairly and gives explanations for her grades. She lets you have a lot of creative freedom and will genuinely be interested in your speeches and topics. I couldn't recommend her enough as a teacher.

Teacher was a great teacher just graded pretty badly, I was in attendance for a midterm and got counted absent and got an F when my group could vouch for me being there. Don't let her scam you out of a good grade higher ups can't do anything about it :(

Ms. Mathison was an amazing teacher. Just show up and try. She grades based on progress. She does NOT expect you to be an expert at public speaking. If you do the gamified version, navigating the online book is tedious, but just get it done and you'll be fine. Not really any tests, and lots of group work. It was a fun semester.

She was amazing! 4 speeches(one group speech) for a semester. Class is not mandatory but she won't follow the schedule she said when the semester started because of the snow day(I took at spring 25) so you better attend most of the classes. She is also easy to talk and very understand if you have any issues and cannot attend.

I love Dee! Her videogame version of the class is super fun. She's a lenient grader and gives helpful feedback on your speeches. She's extremely kind and very motherly! My only complaint would be that sometimes the online textbook is a bit laggy
