Lots of work! Keep up with the readings & notecards, &there won't be a problem!
she works you as though that is the only class you have.
thinks it is the only class you have. Lots of novel reading
Somewhat unorganized and unclear, but very enthusiastic about what she teaches.
A very enthusiastic teacher. She loves teaching Childrens Lit. If you keep up with the note cards and reading you'll have no problem with this class. I learned alot from her class and I'm glad I got to experience it.
Although she was a little scary at first, she ended up being a fabulous teacher. She was entuhsiastic about every aspect of her course and you can tell she has a great love for teaching. You will take so much with you from the course.
can we say.... TOO MUCH?!?!
Too much work, too little time!
This should have been a fun class, instead it was hell. Having yo read 20+ books was bad enough, but writing papers on all of them, plus rough drafts for others, and working on a final project all at once is just too much! Don't expect to enjoy this class
This was the worst class I have ever had. I was confused through out the whole semester. I would not recommend this class to my worst enemy. She really needs to choose another profession!!!!
Don't do it! Way to much work! She is one of the most unfriendly people I have ever met.
Dr. Storey is a wonderful teacher! However, she expects a little much out of her students, but she is always there to help, and clarify any misunderstandings. I took her with 18 credits, and had no problem as an English major. She is FUN!!
shes making my 1st semester at college of ed hell! more work in her class then my 3 other classes combined and she grades HARD! no wonder why shes on academic probation! im going to have a breakdown if it just doesnt get over with! DONT DO IT!!!!
Take her if you are a mind reader and enjoy frustration. She is very confusing and annoying. If you must take her, don't schedule any other classes--TIME CONSUMING!!
Horrible professor. Does not deserve to work here. Way too much work compared to the other Children's lit classes even though Children's lit is a lot of work no matter who you take.
Very unclear, confusing, hard to get a hold of when you need help, takes 4 ever to respond to emails/voicemail, nice person but not a good prof, never sure when something is due, way more work than my other 3 classes, making my 1st semester VERY tiresome!
This teacher is unclear and does not give directions on any of her assignments. She will nit pick everything you do. SHe is not helpful, do not take her. She will teach you nothing and leave you pissed off.
She needs to realize that people have other classes to do work for as well. I was working on 3 papers at a time for her class. I'm sorry for those who have to take her.
Very unclear! This class did not make me become a better educator by any means! Pointless homework and not fun at all. Take another professor....She thinks she is the smartest person ever.
AVOID IF POSSIBLE!!! She is very unorganized, and she shows this in class. It is not clear what she wants in her papers. I managed a good grade in the class, but if I can do this in this class, I'm not afraid of any professor.
Fantastic teacher-the reviews from TE 301 are Ele. Majors.. waaa, we have to do work?? We can't just color and draw pictures? :) She offers great advice and introduces great literature for Y.Adults. Take her for 254 - it's worth the hard work
aaaaah! I would not recommend taking this class if you can help it. It is SO much work, and everything is so unclear. I never had any idea of what was going on in there! However, she is very enthusiastic about teaching.
The person from 254 has no idea what they're talking about for TE 301... I'm a studious person and had to spend the majority of the semester focusing on Storey's class. It took away from my other courses. None of us expected to color pictures, moron.
The University should be ashamed having this kind of "instruction" teaching their teachers. A group of us were switched. Oh my gosh! Worst class I've ever had. Worked the hardest, learned the least, barely passed! Busy work, unorganized beyond
Dr. Storey is a very understanding person and easy to work with. However, the amount of work required for the class is a tremendous load and she wasn't always clear as to what the assignments should consist of.
If you like mystery you'll love Dee Story. She keeps it a mystery of what is due and what she expects.Has no idea how to teach.Shame she has a job to teach future teachers. Her office, desk, car is a mess which is a reflection of her character.
Great teacher. Alot of work involved but it is stuff you may use in the future. Don't take this class if you expect an easy ride, wont happen. She is very helpful and is willing to answer any questions you have. She helped me out a great deal.
RUN! She expects way too much and some of the assignments don't even pertain to YA lit. She's a funny person but one you love to hate outside of class because of her unrealistic demands on students. DO NOT take if you are full-time; take during a sp/su semester as an only class; maybe you'll be ok
I'm glad the rest of my TE profs are not as disorganized as she is. It's sad she is teaching how to be a teacher she can't teach!I learned close to nothing in this class, was expecting to explore children's lit. Probably my # 1 worse experience in college. Not just me, whole class is confused.
Worst prof. I have ever had in my life. Find someone else even if it doesn't work with your schedule. If you have her, I am so sorry. Diorganized, wastes your time!, not all that nice, how can she teach on how to TEACH. I hate to read now!
How can you teach? What is the dean thinking allowing her to model for future teachers! SVSU drops respect with this lady on her roster. I learned nothing, wasted time and money in a program I thought had it all.
Very Unorganized! The first few weeks she is extremely hard but then starts to become nice. She is helpful but expects way to much. The class load is huge! Not a very good role model for teachers!
All i have to say is that I have know idea how she became a teacher! She expects you to be organized, well take a good look at her office! I would be embarrassed! Horrible, horrible teacher
Dr. Storey's class is a lot of work, but she is willing to help if you just ask her. Her assignments are time-consuming, but could be beneficial for future teaching techniques. If you put forth the effort in this class, you will do fine.
How can anyone come on here and say that she is a good teacher. How in the world did the Dean let her in! She feeds you garbage! Garbage in, garbage out! This might as well be a penmanship class...penmanship/how not to be organized 101. Get a life! Sprint in the other direction!
Waste of time and money!! She is completely unorganized, never discusses the 15 books we read, and has taught me nothing. Try to avoid this prof at all costs
This class is VERY challenging, but it was the best teaching class I have had at SV. This professor does not let you skate through the College of Education without knowing your stuff. If you get a bad grade you can turn in your stuff again to get re-graded all you have to do is ASK!
Steer clear! If you see a yellow smile, do not even read. The yellow smiles mean she, or one of her friends submitted it. She is horrible. Dr. Storey is very unorganized, very unfriendly, and teaches nothing you will ever teach to your students. The class should be called Discussion on books you do not read for this class, and unorganized 101.
I read the posts by all of the undergrad students before I took this class and entered with trepidation. Most of the worry disappeared after first meeting. Dr. Storey is not very organized, but she does know her stuff and is very helpful and sympathetic. Advice to the undergrads--you have to seek help or stop whining about the consequences.
I had her for two classes, and yes you'll have to bust your butt, but she'll help you as much as anyone can. Everyone claims she's unorganized, but I think she's spontaneous. It's called "the teachable moment." She lets her classes go in the direction the students take them. A great teacher. If you are some lazy, stupid, whiner - avoid her.
OMG...shes a very nice lady, but you can not follow her during class! Jumps from subject to subject and most of my class was confussed! Grades hard too!
She really needs to get herself together. She is so unorganized and confuses her students. We never know what she wants. She gives a lot of busy work that we don't even end up turning in. She also is extremely specific about what she wants and grades hard.
WORST TEACHER EVER!!! STAY AWAY OR ELSE YOUR DOOOOOOOOMMMMMMEEEEDD!!!!!!
Class sucks. Stay clear
Very unclear, unorganized. Does not help people become better educators. I am appalled that SVSU is supposed to have a good program and has her as a Professor. Horrible!!!
Dr. Storey is one of a kind. You have to understand how she works to do well in the class. LOTS of work. Will help you out if you seek her out in her office.Hard to know what she wants sometimes. Can always redo for up to a B.If you pay attention, put lots of effort forth, and seek out her opinion you'll be fine. Half butting work = very bad grade!
It is not an easy class, but HELLO we are going to be teachers ourselves, apply yourself you will do fine. Do not fuss about it, do what is expected, attend class and you'll do fine. Do NOT attempt to SLACK! Do the Bib sheets throughout class and do more on assignments than you normally might do, and she'll appreciate the effort put forth.
Avoid at all cost! Nice lady, but she's a nutjob. It is impossible to understand what she wants. I'm a good student, but this woman is unbearable. Do yourself a favor and just RUN AWAY!
Dr. Storey is willing to help any student. She is fun and likes interaction with the students. I had no trouble in this class. Just attend and try your hardest and you will do fine.
Awful class! Horrible grader and very unclear at what she wants. Her lectures taught me nothing.

She can be unreasonable with her expectations but she knows that we will reach the bar that she has set for us. If you're lazy and don't like a challenge, and prefer to do half *ss work, stay away. If you're willing to work hard and learn, she's the one to take! As long as you keep up, you'll do fine! The treats in class make it worth while!
She does expect you to put time into the papers. The assignment sheets are usually vague, so ask questions to save yourself. You'll need about 13 or so books, but they read pretty quickly. Demanding for a summer course, not sure about fall or winter. Class time is for discussion and small group things.

Very unclear about what she wants and totally disorganized. Incredibly harsh grader. On my papers she said the paper itself was good, but gave me Cs for doing citations wrong. Marking down 2 full letter grades for an otherwise good paper!? I expect to work hard, have a 3.7 GPA, and still couldn't make above a C in her class. Avoid at all costs!
Holy Sh*t, this teacher was one of the worst I have ever had. I can't believe that she is teaching (or moreover that the university keeps her). If you can avoid her for Children's Lit., do so else, begin praying NOW!
Dr. Storey is a very demanding prof. She will work you to death, and then assign some more, but, she is reasonable. If the deadline is totally outrageous, she'll adjust. She's also a very kind person and will help you with anything, whether it's her job or not. She's also very funny and great to talk to. It's a lot of work, but I'd take her again.
yes you have to read a book a week, or be really good at bull****ting the papers, i read one of the first 4 books and got a B+ or better on all 4 papers, she is a really nice teacher and will give you more time to finish a paper if you need it
I read this site and went into the class expecting a tyrant... Dr. Storey is an awesome teacher! I learned more in this class than I have in any other class I have taken at SVSU. SHE EXPECTS YOU TO WORK! Isn't that what college is about? Do the reading and put time into the papers, if you are unclear, ask her what she means!
She pick favorites and it shows in class and in students grades!!!
Her lectures are great, and easy to listen to. Her assignments, well, they teach you to not procrastinate. Her grading is absolutely ridiculous. Even if you go to her and ask for input on your paper, you will still get a bad grade. It's extremely hard to stay motivated because it seems like no matter how hard you try, it's never enough.
Dr. Storey really knows her young adult literature. Her assignments aren't clear and she doesn't like trying to explain them. Plus, her format is more like APA than MLA... A very confusing class.
Really really rough semester
She seems nice, but beware! No one in my class knew what she wanted until AFTER papers were due. Also, she LOST one of my papers, but instead of letting me know, just gave me an incomplete. I was able to straighten things out, but I ended up working half of the NEXT semester REWRITING that paper! If you do have to take her, speak up in class!!
Storey is a fun person, but a terrible professor. Her assignments are not well explained and are basically busy work. The ridiculous amount of time you spend doing homework for this class is not comparable to the overall importance of the class. She is very disorganized and loses student papers and grades.
She is VERY hard to understand;directions are unclear. Will spend lots of wasted time explaining assignments b/c assignment handouts are unclear.had to read 40+ books. The hard part is actually getting your hands on the "exact" ones she wants. Be prepared to spend lots of time at the lib. Do not reccommend! Nice instructor, not nice class!!
Yes, you will get confused, you will get frusterated with all the reading and what seem to be endless papers, but Dr. Storey really means well it just doesnt come across that way sometimes. She is very understanding you just needs to talk to her if you have problems. Hard grader but she will reward you for hard work as well.
TE 301 was a terrible, disappointing class. Her assignment handouts were very long and extremely confusing. I have taken many english classes and have gotten A's she was telling me that I was doing so many things wrong when all other professors told me good job. You never know what she wants you to do and she gives very unclear directions.
I thought this class would be beneficial, and some of it was. However, the amount of work that was piled on each week was unrealistic. We had to read 3-4 children's books a week, plus major assignments. Her directions were never clear, and were always tedious. Dr. Storey had no compassion for our busy schedules, and this was extremely frustrati
This is the first class I took when I came to USA. I like her class. I can learn more from her than any of other class I've taken at SVSU. She is a nice person. I really learn a lot from her.
Im not going to lie I love Dr. Storey I think shes a wonderful prof. I learned a whole lot in this class. Yes the amount of work is horrifying, yes she is an extremely hard grader. But she will bend over backwards to see you succeed. If you like a challenge take this course. She'll reward you for your hard work.
I look back at the class and I'm STILL confused. Never knew what was due, we did random things that made no sense (she gave us bottle caps the first week and we did nothing with them) and read a lot of books (then didn't talk about them.) Many of my classmates still talk about the horrors of that class. We never want to go back.
Horrible, horrible, horrible. Way too much time spent on insignificant details with none spent on content. Does not care about the amount of time you spend away from your job or family to spend on her tireless assignments which are meaningless and confusing. Extremely harsh grader if she does not like you since her grades are all subjective.
Horrible teacher. Worst teacher I have had in 5 years in college. Saginaw Valley need to get rid of her. She is trying to make students' lives' a pain, harder than they already are and harder than the need to be. She loves to have power and control. Don't take her, unless you have to.
It does not matter if you life a challenge or not! DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS. By far the most unorganized professor i have ever had. the syllabus handed out is half blank. HORRIBLE! SWITCH OUT OF THIS CLASS.
Dee Storey does not deserve to teach. She was rude, not helpful and snobby. We did not accomplish anything in her class and even though I worked really hard she gave me a C because she didnt like me..mainly because I am not a teaching Major. Avoid Young Adult Lit 254 if you want to keep your sanity.
Dr. Storey is very disorganized. I enjoy school but going to her class was torture. I would sit there dreading what she was going to ask for next. My class never knew when assignments were due and none of us could ever meet her outrageous standards. I definitely would not take her again.
Dee Storey isn't AS bad as people make her. She actually is very funny. Yes, shes very unorganized and yes you never get a straight answer. The work isn't that hard as long as you follow the grading rubric. She is very considerate if you need extra time for work!
Dr. Storey is tough and has high expectations. She will do anything to help you even if its not about class. She's also very funny. My complaint is too many assignments due at once, slow grading and feeling like work will not be good enough no matter what. I learned a lot though. Nice, but tough & a LOT of work! Some understandable and some not.
Where do I even begin? Dr. Storey was unorganized and unclear. She was very specific on what she wanted, but kept that a total secret until papers were handed back. Her grading scale is insane and confusing. Plus, the amount of work required each week was way too much. She's a nice woman, but I did not enjoy her as a professor at all.
Storey has very unclear directions and extermely unrealistic goals about what students should be able to complete in a week. I would spend hours working on stuff and several more hours attending her office hours. Also make sure you take the question out of your voice when you answer her because you should know everything before taking her class.
Storey is a tough grader, but all in all a nice woman. She REALLY hates plagiarism so I don't at all recommend it. Read the material you're supposed to and work hard all through the class. If you put forth the effort, don't plagiarize and work hard through class you will not fail.
Dr. Storey introduces a lot of good ideas for incorporating young adult literature into the classroom. However, time management resulted in losing some useful assignments. In addition, she is not always clear on what she wants. However, Dr. Storey is a very good teacher. I enjoyed it thoroughly. Plan on lots of reading though.
I have never met a teacher that hates students so much. Her guidlines & epectations are EXTREMELY unrealistic. There was no direction in the course. The worst & most unorganized professor I have ever had in my 4 years of college. She pretends to be approachable & friendly, but the second she can bury you with some outrageous accusation she will!!!!
Does not explain things well at all. Unorganized all the time. I did not learn much, if anything in this class.
I guess I will start with the positives. Dr. Storey is a very nice person and I learned a lot in her class. However, she has high expectations that are never explained clearly. She is VERY disorganized and piles on tons and tons of work that she never tells you about until you come across it in the class calendar.
Dr. Storey is a very nice and funny professor. She gives a lot of great ideas for ways to teach students. She is a little unclear and expects a lot from her students, but hey, being a teacher isn't the easiest job in the world.
Dee Storey is probably the worst teacher that I have ever had. She expects ridiculous things from her students, while giving no directions. All quizes are T/F and average scores are around 70%. This is a two credit course, yet I did roughly ten hours of homework a week. She is mean in her comments on returned work and loses things constantly. AVOID
She does not know what she is doing. She waste class time talking about things that have nothing to do with the class.
Just expect to be frustrated by the confusion over assignment requirements and a work load which is much more than it should be for a 2 credit class. You will get less out of it than you should because of how she runs the course.
This online class is the only one she teaches at the graduate level - thank God I NEVER have to take a class with her again. She does not specify directions or expectations, her assignments are long and hard, you read a different novel every 3 days, have huge assignments and modules all due at the same time, cannot respond to classmates via DB etc
This was by far the worst class I have ever taken. I have never worked so hard and for so many hours on pointless assignments in my life. I didn't learn a darn thing that I can actually use in my classroom. I spent so many hours away from my family that I can't get back. What a waste of my time and my money. Do NOT take ANY of her courses.
She was by far the worst professor I have ever had. Her syllabus was a jumbled mess. You had to search in three different places to try to figure out what the assignments were for the week. Her grading criteria and expectations were unclear. The whole class was full of busy work with little to no actual instruction. Avoid at all costs!
Oh buddy, where do I begin. She does not really teach that much in class, she just gives long assignment handouts that are unclear and are not consistent with the grading rubrics. Not good at replying to emails. Weird grading scale that allows people to pass, but due to her lack of clarify and consistency I would never take her again.
Awful. Storey is unorganized, hard to understand, and impossible to avoid as an English/Education major at SVSU. Insulting learning about teaching from someone who lacks basic organization and unconventional, unclear grading techniques. Never knew when anything was due, and even when we asked her she would never give a clear answer.
