it's good to know that some people who teach are actually doing it because they enjoy their profession. she is one of those people. never unfair with students, always in a great mood, and not so far removed from college herself, which helps a lot.

Dr. Joyce is so nice, and her class is really interesting. Definitely an easy A as long as you do the readings, which aren't hard. Great videos and her lectures make the information enjoyable and understandable.

Dr. Joyce is such a nice and good teacher! She is alwyays willing to help and her grading system is very fair. If you try in her class, then you should do well. She also has a great sense of humor and loves to answer questions and show movies!

Dr. Joyce is very nice and super funny! All her lectures are clear and she always tests on what she teaches!

I LOVE HER! She is a super nice lady who is HALRIOUS. Her tests come straight from the notes and are very straightforward. Weekly readings which are not hard, extra credit opportunities,class activities and no cumulative final (just like a third test).

I adore this woman. I consider Professor Joyce to be one of the best professors I have ever had at the College of Charleston. She is extremely helpful and if you show effort in her class she will help you out. Pop quizzes for attendence. Love her.

Great professor. Tests were difficult, but lectures were great. Drops 2 lowest quiz scores and allows for 2 others to be replaced with outside work. Very fair and understanding. Plan on showing up for this class if you want to do well.

Dr. Joyce is a great and understanding teacher. She was very helpful and very easy. She is very articulate and understands issues of the average college student. Very approachable! Only two exams and one paper, but she gives you time in class to write.

She is an awsome teacher. Read all the articles she gives you because they are really interesting. This was a great class and she made it easy by the way she taught it. She is very interested in the subject and it shows.

Really cool professor. Very clear, and makes things interesting (although the material is pretty interesting in itself). Read the stuff on e-reserves; you never know when you'll be quizzed.

i was expecting this class to be awful, but it was great! shes a great teacher and very enthusiastic about the subject at hand. i always liked going to class even though there is no attendance policy. do the readings and take notes and you will be fine. highlly recommended!

YOU HAVE TO GO TO CLASS!. there is no attendence policy, but if you don't do the reading and go, you will make a bad grade. Nice lady though, test are a killer. but the quizzes aren't hard. if you do the readings you will enjoy the class, and make a good grade.

SHE IS AWESOME!!! She presents the material with so much energy, and she is always good for a laugh. There is a TON of outside reading but the articles are interesting. 10 unannounced quizes, and 3 hard tests. She is an awesome lady. I would definetly take her again.

She is a great teacher! she does assign A LOT of reading every night so be reaady to allow about an hour just towards reading. Tests are kind of difficult, but the class is overall enjoyable. Quizzes are also difficult...I would read and still get 70's on the quizzes(maybe bc we had so much to read)!

Dr. Joyce was one of my favourite classes to attend. While her subject can be difficult, it is very interesting. She is very careful to not "step on people's toes" during her teaching of semi-controversial subjects, but is still very clear and helpful. There is a lot of out-of-class reading, but it's usually not bad. Dr. Joyce = awesome.

definately a great teach, she gives a lot of quizzes on the reading but they are not bad you just have to read and the articles are interesting, her tests come from lectures so you need to take a lot of notes and the essays are usually predictable because if she talks about one topic for a long time it is usually the essay

Joyce is quite a nice lady, but I found her teaching style abnormally hard; however, everyone else seemed to get an A who did the homework (lots of reading)--although I didn't. Great person other than my personal bias . . . Great personality and humor. I'd try her again.

This is one of the nicest teachers ever! She is always smiling. Gives a weekly quiz based on relevant internet articles--easy grades. Lectures are interesting and entertaining.-Lots of movie clips. She is awesome! You have to take her ANTH 101 class!!!

Dr. Joyce makes Anthropology 101 so much more interesting than it could be. She finds some of the craziest customs and wierdest things people do (a lot of cool movies). The readings can be long, but are for the most part interesting. She does not focus on details, nor expects you to memorize any. This class was so awesome.

She is awesome...she is very funny and picks out the most interesting things to talk about for lectures. 10 quizes so you must go to class and do reading. TAKE HER CLASS you will learn a lot!

She is extremely friendly and enthusiastic. She assigns a heck of a lot of reading, but it is interesting. There are 10 quizzes on readings, but you can drop two and do extra credit for a third. Tests are not easy, but not hard. NO FINAL OR ATTENDANCE POLICY! She is a great teacher and the class is easy and fun; what more do you want. TAKE IT!

She starts the semester off by saying you get bonus points for going to class. Then, when you miss more days than you probably should (my mistake!) she tells the deans. Go to class for notes because the tests are REALLY hard. There are only 2 tests and a final. I will probably get a C if I am lucky due to the tests.

She was an interesting teacher. The syllabus says that attendance doesn't matter, but GO! All the tests (2) are mainly on the notes in class. Do the readings and quizzes each night. Overall she is an interesting teacher. She really cares alot, if you show that you want to do good then she will help you.

she is so nice! she's a little scatterbrained, but she's really smart and willing to meet with students who need help. make sure you take notes on everything she says b/c it will most likely be on the tests. it was an interesting class. no final!

YAY FOR DEE-DEE!! I love this lady! Her class can get sorta boring, but overall you learn some good information. Her lectures are all powerpoint led and she has "movie fridays." The tests can be confusing but if you get extra help from her you will understand what she is looking for. Take her if you can! She is the reason i am an anthropology major

AWESOME TEACHER!!! Her test are kinda tricky but if you study the notes then you are going to be fine. She does not require a text book but she assigns readings online. She is the reason i am an Anthropology major. She loves what she does and makes you love it too. BEST TEACHER EVER!

Dr. Joyce is one of the best professors I have ever had. Class highly visual with slides, videos, and hands on artifacts. Attendance is not mandatory, but all test material is from class lectures. Assigns nightly on-line readings with on-line quizzes post reading. Easy to contact, get along with, and always willing to help.

DEE DEE is the MAN. i love her and she also inspired me to become an anthro major. take her if you can. she also is willing to help you understand the material if you are having a hard time.

Dr. Joyce is hands down the best professor at CofC (in ANY department -trust me on this!!) She is approachable, understanding, knowledgeable, and passionate. Her enthusiasm for anth.has made me wish I had majored in it. There is no textbook, which allows her to give very up-to-date reading assignments. There is no attendance policy, but GO 2 CLASS!

AMAZING teacher! She knows a lot about what she is teaching, and mades her lectures really interesting and easy to follow. Tests are all multiple choice strictly from her lectures, and there is NO final! You do have to take an online quiz before EVERY class over articles you have to read, but she drops 7 of them. I would recommend her to anyone!

Dr. Joyc is a very kind person but doesnt reply to emails very often. The quizes are tricky and tests are almost impossible. She does make the last test super easy. If you are really good at applying the material then you will do great!

This class is not hard as long as you are a good note taker. I never studied for the tests, but I did take comprehensive notes. That was enough to pull out an A-. I suppose I could have tried for the A, but for minimal effort outside the classroom I'll take the A-. Plus she is really nice and she makes her lectures interesting!

Professor Joyce was one of the top two professors I have had in my college career. If you do the work in her class and attend class, you will make an A.

I took her class during the summer and it was very easy. She's a very sweet women and is very knowledgeable of her subject. She makes the class interesting, there's no required textbook, only reading assignments and daily quizzes. Tests are easy if you read and take notes in class.

It's really not necessary to attend this class. She's a good teacher and I found the class fairly interesting and easy.

Dr. Joyce is an amazing professor. Her class is so interesting and when she teaches you can see how much she loves Anthropology. No textbook. Just readings and easy quizzes each week. She drops your lowest seven. Dr. Joyce is always there if you need help or advice and she made me love Anthro. Tests are not cumulative which is helpful.

This is an easy class, but the grading scheme makes it difficult to receive an A. Daily quizzes & long reading are only homework, the only assessments are 3 multiple choice tests. Class was not part of my major, and she made me lose interest it by the end of the semester. Joyce loves archaeology, and spends a lot of time on it and evolution.

This class is challenging and definitely requires a good bit of studying. I failed one of the three tests which is why I got a C. Come to class everyday or you'll be lost.

Make sure you go to class, b/c notes arent posted online. You have to pay attention to her lecture to fill in the notes, but her lectures are very clear. Super sweet lady, and loves what she does! Take a few hours to study your notes, and you'll get deff get at least a B on all multiple choice. Final isnt cumulitive either which is great.

She if a really great professor! Everyday she comes into class with energy and charisma. She assigns online readings with a 10 question quiz every class. As long as you do all the online readings, you only need to show up for half the class.

Wonderful professor! Very energetic and great sense of humor. Just pay attention in class, study your notes, and do well on the quizzes (which are online and not timed). My favorite class this semester!

Test questions are not straight forward has "more right" answers. Tries to make anthropology interesting. Extremely passionate. Knows the material well. Drops lowest 5 quizzes so if you do decent on those and get pretty decent tests grades you'll be fine. Finals only worth 10% so don't wait till the last minute thinking you'll make points up there.

She is a great teacher. Her lectures are interesting and easy to follow. The test are difficult, but if you go to class, take good notes, do the readings and study, then you will do fine. There is a heavy reading load every week, but these readings are not difficult. She is a very nice lady and she has become one of my favorite teachers at CofC!

Dr. Joyce is very passionate about what she does & makes this class so interesting. She doesn't take attendance, but she doesn't put the notes online so you won't pass unless you have a friend to give you the notes you miss. Quizzes everyday you have class on average 5-6 pages of information. Tests are challenging, but if you study, you'll be ok

Overall, this class is essentially note-taking and listening, but it is also very engaging. She encourages students to discuss the material. This course is not difficult, but you do have to study; there is a lot of material! Great professor, would take again.

Dr. Joyce is such a nice lady and she teaches her class exactly how a 101 course should be taught. It is a great introduction to the subject of anthropology with a pretty minimal workload, no papers or projects. Grade is based on 3 tests that are very easy if you go to class, online quizzes (she drops the 5 lowest scores) and 1 in class essay.

Professor Joyce is an amazing professor. I would love to take this class again! She is actually the reason as to why I have chosen a minor in Anthropology. I strongly recommend her. There are readings with quizzes that go along with the readings. But tests are very straight forward from lecture notes.

She explains everything really well and make anthropology easy. She inspired me to minor or double major in anthropology.

This class is very interesting but it is not an easy A. Professor Joyce makes you work for your grade but is very helpful if you go to her for help. In this class you have daily quizzes from a reading posted on oaks and have 3 exams and 1 in class essay at the end. No Final. Attendance is not required but i do recommend going to class.

reading quizzes are due before each class but they are easy true and false questions. They are good to boost your grade and its hard to do bad on them. No final exam either. Attendance is not mandatory but most test material is on the power points so just make sure to get notes from a classmate
