I took her for speech and shes a cool professor. Expects students to be perfect speakers so speech grades were not so well. It is a fun class, especially when its time for the debate! She doesn't embarrass you like most professors would!

She is a fair, smart, and fun teacher. She makes you feel comfortable in class and I'd recommend taking her.

She's very cut and dry...which isn't a bad thing. She's funny and got an interesting class. Just do your work and be attentive. She DOESN'T like CELL PHONES! SHUT IT OFF, or put it on SILENT. If you want to DIE (NO JOKE) keep your cell on in class...eeek! But yeah, besides that, I'd say take her!

A fun teacher to take, very dry sense of humor. Be sure to keep your phone because if it rings she'll give you the hairy eyeball. She says no one will ever get a 100% on a speech and its hard to get an A in this class but a B is nearly guarenteed if you do all the assignments on time and show up.

This teacher is very upfront about everything. She might come across as strong and strict but she is really sweet. If you show up for class and do the work you will do well. Don't come in late if someone is giving a speech, her looks are deadly! I got an A in the class and by the end of it i was more confident about speaking in crowds!

Summer term was difficult at first, but you'll get it. I am sure her regular terms are much easier. She is very straight foward. If I were you, do not debate with her. You are fighting a losing battle. Get on her good side. She is cool. Laugh at her corny jokes. haha And pick topics for your speech that you think she is interested in. Her grading will ease up.

This class isn't something to take if you are looking to get off easy. You have to actually work and participate to get good grades (as you should in any class). I have enjoyed her love for debate and love watching her debate with others. She is a very intelligent person and will challenge your idea of thinking. I would recommend her to anyone.

I like her Shes real and if u think u r goin to go to sleep and do noting u r wrong. Its fun if u want to learn, I recommend her!!

I disagree with all the negative writings on this page! She is a great teacher. She actually refers to this website and I think it is rather hilarious. She is sarcastic and everyone needs to learn how to take a joke. You only do 4 speeches and she does grade tough. But you have to learn constructive criticism!

She's pretty cool, I found her sense of humor pretty hilarious at times. Please do not do anything to make her give you a bad look it will tear you apart and tramatize you for days. like you'll be having a good day and that look comes to mind and it just kills your spirit. lol. neway pretty easy class and fun to argue with. but you never win!!!

Basically go into the speech class as if you have never done a speech before in your life. Completley do it under her standards and listen to her criticsms. If you do you will get an A, she is human and if you are mature enough to go into her class and talk to her about an issue she will listen. She is tough but not impossible.

I LOVED her class! I was not a speech person but I passed due to hard work and her help. Prof DHD is the best speech prof. and I am taking her for another class, SPC 1700...I say take her if you like challenges and making good grades. I hate speech, and I even dropped my first speech class, but I really enjoyed Professor Holmes DuBois (Dew-Bwah). She is sarcastic, and some people tend to hate her, but I loved her and her class. She's hilarious. Don't share any anti-dook feelings, and you'll be safe, lol.

I had her for Fundamentals of Speech, and I loved her. Despite negative comments, she makes class fun. There are four speeches, and a debate in groups, and a few homework assignments. Book is primarily useful for exams (mid and final). She is always there to provide feedback. I would take her again. You learn a lot.

Ms. Dubois thinks only her opinion that matters,no body else is a good as her. Man, She is so rude,and picky. This professor is AWESOME. She has effectively taken a class with a subjective grading scale and made it as objective as possible. She uses sarcasm a lot, but I thought it was extremely funny. She has crystal clear directions given on every handout for grades, and is a lot of help if you show that you actually care about your grade in her class.

Oh God! This professor is extremely clear with what she wants and how she wants things to get done. So just make sure that when she tells you that your speeches must be a certain way, thats just the way to go! You get to do three speeches through out the class and have some test. Very fair and helpful if you need help with anything. Highly recommen

Prof. Holmes Dubois is a great professor. This class is not a cakewalk...if you want an "A" you'll have to work, and work hard. Her syllabus is very specific and will answer all of your questions. If you think you're just going to get in front of class, just talk, and get an "A"...take another professor.

This Professor is very helpful she shows you what she expects and how she expects it. I have recived multiple A's and yes, she is sarcastic but teaching people who are in COLLEGE not high school how to speak outloud isn't the easiest job as well as listening to students who can't put together a sentence. Great professor. Extremely helpful. No easy A but if you work for it an A is possible. Come prepared on speech day anddont miss a speech or it will hurt you. pay careful attention to the instructions on the outlines. Don't be afraid to ask her for help, she will help you.

Awesome Prof! Took her for Cross-Cultural Communication and Speech. She's really funny and understanding. Really helps out with struggling speakers. If you decide to take her, live by the syllabus! She follows it very closely! Definitely recommend her!

She has a very cool personality and makes class fun but she is very hard. She gives you about a day or two to prepare a speech and outline and grades pretty hard too. So if you can't handle the pressure I wouldn't recommend taking taking her but overall it was a good class.

I really like the way she teaches. She is very helpful and fun. She is great at teaching. I have to admit though, she is not for everyone. She is very strict with grading and attendance is almost always necessary. You do not really need the book, she'll assign chapters to read but I do not think everyone did it at all

She is so funny, you'll never not laugh in her class. She does make you earn your grade and she doesn't do extra credit. You must follow her rules exactly and listen attentively.

A lot of writing. Speeches are a little intense , but she is a great teacher and you will eventually get more comfortable. She helps with confidence in speaking in front of others. She is very nice and tries to help as much as possible.

I took her online class. She has weekly discussion posts and quizzes on the modules. While the quizzes can be easy, the discussion posts need a bit more effort. The speeches and outlines are big, but all the discussion posts are pretty much preparing for them. The more you do those, the easier the speeches. All in all, would take her again.
