What Students Say
“terrible professor, barely explains anything of worth in class and just goes over irrelevant stuff and goes so much in depth for no reason, brings up working hard every 2 minutes and side tracks so much, grades cases super tough and connect assignments are nothing like what she teaches in class, we are all super lucky she retires after this year”

She's tough , but you can be sure you will come out knowing your stuff

Great Prof., tough/demanding but devoted to her work, and fair.
Best accounting prof. ever! Not an easy class but she lets you know and preps.
She misleads you on the tests!
Her tests are no measure of what she teaches you, watch out. Towsley is better!

Good Professor, not easy a bit of a challenge for most ryerson dumbasses
awesome- her sections had the highest avg among other classes when i took it

Hardest course ever, 10 hours of homework, Taylor teaches well.
motor mouth
Difficult tests but if you study hard you will definitely do well.
problem with course not the prof
hard course, try keep on with hoemework, Deidre is not much help
she prepares u well for the real world...kind of sexy too

she is a strict typical drill sargent
Hated her as a teacher.. learned nothing in her klass.. way to much work!!
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
SHE WILL MAKE YOU WISH YOU WERE NEVER BORN!!!!
Indeed a self-study course... Prof absolutely unhelpful & sometimes ugly
Good teaching strategy. Do your work in advance, it pays off.
If you take her class during night school you'll regret it!! You're better off taking it during the day
Avoid this class if you can! She's brutual if you take her in the night school, I think she gets really tired or something or just needs coffee
The class is brutal and it doesn't help that the prof doesn't teach. I had the misfortune to take the class at night and believe me, the people during the day had it easier
Sexy prof! She is kind of tough, but you learn the material well from her style. You need to come to class every week though.
In class again for second time. The Professor is great I just did not do the work the first time around. I really like her as a Prof.
She taught my mom when she was in Uni. Then when i got accpeted to Rye, my mom told me to watch out for a female accounting prof named Taylor. ALWAYAS listen to your mother. STAY AWAY, PLEASE
I went to see her during her office hours because I needed help, and she was so incredibly rude to me and chastised me in front of another prof. I was pretty afraid as it was to go and talk to her and she seemed to get pleasure out of making me feel stupid. She's big on getting good grades but it's
Similar style of teaching to Daria Sydor, very stingy on assignment solutions.I think these 2 indiv. have the pleasure of failing/bullying students and therefore defeats the purpose of teaching itself. They both get carried away in making students SUFFER. Learning is supposed to be enjoyable!!!!!!!
Excellent Prof. Great teaching style; hard course but you can do well if you do your work in advance. One of the best prof. that Ryerson has!

finally finished, 2nd attempt but i learned the material this time, prof was great, need to do the work!!
Great professor, hard working, & helpful. Course is tough;however, she teaches it beautifully. You need to review assigned class material before you go to her lecture classes. Overall, she is excellent.
I took this course a few years ago. Taylor stuck in my mind as the most infantile teacher I ever had, more suitable for elementary school. Do your homework, otherwise she throws a tantrum and wets herself.
I found Ms. Taylor to be an excellent teacher. She builds on your development from other courses and draws it together nicely. She only asks that students prepare themselves before coming to class. Through her teaching methods I was able to turn things around and earn a decent mark in the course. Remember you get out of it what you put in.
Wow great experience in her class. Knew it would be hard but her excellent teaching style and clearly apparent concern for the students made it a great time. She really cares alot about the students and will try her best to help each student reach their potential. Couldn't ask for a better professor.
Great prof... helpful and teaches with professional exams in mind...probably one of the best professors at Ryerson.
I was in her class 2 years ago, she was one of the best teachers I had. She really cared about the student and wanted them to do well in the future. Currently I am enroled in the CGA, and I was able to pass the Challenge exam for Financial Accounting the first time I took it. Thanks to Deidre for helping me be a better student.
very good prof. course material is very heavy and hard. do not fall behind. do all the readings/problems. work hard thru out course. she is an excellent prof in all aspects. either u get A or F, weird eh? its true
This course does take a lot of work, but once you put the effort in it, you will be fine. She is a reasonable professor who expects people to work hard, and treats students fairly.
She is knowledgeable but very rude and arragont! She just pretended to help students actually what she taught has nothing to do with exams. She just wants to show off her knowledge. If you can skip her class. please STAY AWAY!!!
Excellent professor. Demanding but for a good reason, as this course is tough.
If you're not doing a designation, drop the course. Prof will tell you that the level of difficulty and time needed is enormous. Prof is extremely helpful and available if you ask. Some misinterpret her comments as condescending but she is genuinely concerned for your achievement. Tests are tough -write fast and know you're material.
She is a very good prof. She expects a little too much from her students but will try and help you get a good mark by changing the marking scheme. She's very approachable and will help you as long as you put in the effort. Keep up to date and don't fall behind. Tests and exams were tough but didnt mark that hard on the assigment.
GREAT PROF, VERY INSPARATIONAL. True accountant, learned a lot from her. highly Reccomended. best of luck!!!!!
Very professional prof. Course requires 10hrs per week to get an A. Know calculations inside out. Cases require knowing all concepts from book and make sure to not dump information but be specific to what the question is asking and how detailed the question is. Definately not a bird course. If you have questions make sure you read before u ask her
Difficult course with high expectation from the professor. Do your work or you fail. The case is a kiler and you should study the handout she gives before each exam and test...the professor is nice and friendly; however the course is a different story
Hard course, Amazing Prof. Accounting Department should have hired more Prof. like her! Tip to succeed is to study hard before the midterm, since the previous 9 chapters are correlative. I kinda screwed up the final, but still ended up with good grade. Final was really hard, particularly the case! And i think she belled the final too. lol
Very challenging course - she says it upfront on the first class. She's polite and friendly but her exams are brutally hard due to the content. The only thing I really hate is not having the solutions as a guide. She doesn't give time to copy so that's a major issue.
The course is very difficult and the amount of work is like nothing I've done before. Deidre is a great professor, but she expects you to be prepared. A tip for anyone who has to take this course is: Taking Tax(742 or 842)and 703 in the same semester almost guarantees that one mark will suffer. Most people can't avoid it but I would if you can.
Professor Taylor is the greatest professor I had while completing my major in Accounting at Ryerson. If it wasn't for her, I wouldn't be a CA now. The course is hard, but it would have been much harder if it wasn't for her. She is extremely inspirational, professional and abosolutely nice.
Great prof,She is really nice, tough Course, but worthies to take it,All accounting major should take the course. She is really helpful, without her help I wouldn't be a CA,Not an easy course though I drop three times but still I manage to get my designation
first 9 chapter related so don't fall behind. Test 1, m/c was hard the technical was easy, she gives alot of techinical question practise. Midterm techincal was easy if you study and memorize the calculation steps. Case is hard.Final was okay.Ch. 8,11,12 are major hard. study hard ch.4,5,6,7 for midterm kuz in final as well. NEED ALOT OF TIME STUDY
Amazing prof! Ext helpful and really nice. She knows the content well and is always willing to help. She tries her absolute best to help her students learn. The course is def a challenging one; there is an immense amt of material to cover..so you must stay on top of it. All in all, tough course, great prof! She is not to blame if you don't do well!
Very tough course. You must put in a LOT of time and effort. Taylor is a nice prof. She definitely wants to help her students. She goes off on a tangent sometimes and tells the students that they'll never make it in the real world or that we're "pathetic". But otherwise, very helpful prof for a tough course!!
Yes the course is brutal, but Taylor is an absolutely amazing prof. She may seem very strict and tough at first, but after the midterm once the stranglers drop the class she becomes so much nicer. The key to this class is time. You have to read every chapter, maybe even twice and do each and every problem assigned.
Cours is hard you need to work well independently. Deirdre is extremely compassionate and understanding if she sees that you're trying. I failed the midterm and killed the final...ended up with a B...she did this for everyone. I was ready to drop it until talking to her she is a very nice person. As for teaching...she's brilliant.
Probably the best prof in this joke of school. If you want to excel in the real world- she will equip you with the right attitude and tools. Makes you realize what the standard is in REAL A-level schools. All my other Ryerson profs were horrible in comparison to her. Hard course and it takes lots of time. You really do EARN this credit.
This professor is by far the best at Ryerson. My only regret is that I did not meet this professor in my earlier years of study. She gives real and good career guidance. She takes the course to the level required for professional standards. This course requires a lot of work and you have to put in the time to get a good grade.
Great professor, by far the best professor at Ryerson. Very knowledgeable and always willing to help those who need help. Provides very good advices. Her midterm and quiz are very straight forward, no surprises! =) awesome! keep up the good work!
She is a highly superior instructor. Her examinations are highly effective in testing your knowledge. You definitely earn your marks in this class. By far the hardest technical accounting class. She has a keen interest in her students. I definitely recommend taking her. She WILL prepare you for your professional entrance exams. I enjoyed the class.
This is the Godfather of all accounting courses at Ryerson. Going to her class is useless if you haven't read or done the problems as everything keeps building up. She keeps mentioning that 200 started, 110 finished which brakes your spirit. Its a hard course and you need to teach yourself the details and the technical, she covers mostly theory.
This professor is by far the best professor at Ryerson University. She is extremely clear on what she wants and expects. There are absolutely no surprises on midterm or exam. Extremely helpful and willing to answer questions students have. Do the problems, listen to her lecture, ask questions you don't understand and practice (Groups).
Got A+ with her, did better than 414 and 514. Absolutely phenomenal and extremely inspirational! Highly recommended! If only all my professors were like her at Ryerson! =) (This is my second post, didn't have enough space in the first one, not sure what happened to that post)
Attendance is mandatory as the text is not updated and she states the IFRS differences only in class; you will be mislead if you try to use the textbook alone. Good at explaining herself and sets fair tests. Can come across as rude however if you ask a question that she expects you to know from 414/514, or something she referenced vaguely in class
Do yourself a favour and avoid her at all costs ..
She asks why the class doesn't participate but when someone does and get the answer wrong she rips them apart in a really rude way.
DO NOT take this class unless you want to become a professional accountant. This class is not a cgpa booster. She even tells you herself this class is extremely difficult and is meant for professional accountants.
This course is very difficult and requires that you put in the time and effort. Prof. Taylor is an amazing professor, she knows her stuff and does a great job of explaining the material to the class. Taylor prepares students for the work world and wants everyone to be successful. Do the work and you will be fine.
This course is really tough. I'm sorry to say that you have to put in the time and effort required each week in order to even get this credit. I actually earned the credit with hard work. Mid & finals consist of technical and case based questions. The final had MCQ as well. The proff does give out imp handouts which came in handy esp for the final.
save your life and just drop the course. she will expect you to know everything and will just give you check figures to confirm your answer. poor teaching overall.
Professor Taylor is a very knowledgeable teacher. However she expects too much for the midterm and final. Do the homework problems come to class and understand concepts. Don't let bad mark discourage you because it will never reflect how much of accouting you know :)
Great at explaining concepts and pointing out tricky areas in technical questions. Course is tough because of all the time you need to put in to it in order to keep up each week. Coming to class is required as she goes beyond the book to explain concepts that are fair game for the cases. Midterm and final come down to timing yourself to keep pace.
The technical portion of this course is actually not that bad after you get the bigger picture. It's the cases on the exams that kills, they are worth just as much as the technical parts, so even if you get perfect on the tech part, you'll only get 50%.
Extremely knowledgeable and helpful. The BEST prof to teach a monster like 703. Prof Taylor prepares you for CPA by raising the course to the level required for your professional entrance exams. Can be a bit snappy sometimes -- but don't take it personally. She just wants to make you THINK. Excellent professor.
Best way to succeed in this class is to read the chapter, do the "problem" within the chapter where the book guides you through how it is done, once you're 100% sure how to do the problem within the chapter (after doing it multiple times), do the end of chapter "test yourself" question, then once you've understood it move onto assigned problems.
To continue my post, do what I listed (read, problems, problems, problems) and it will guarantee you do very very well on the technical part of the exam. The case is the hardest part of the exam so practice writing cases. Listen and take notes in class. Taylor is an amazing professor who wants to help you and really wants students to succeed.
Found her quite condescending, and annoying how she says retained "Yearnings". Take it with Brony Fong if you can. He builds you up, where she will tear you down.
Prof Taylor really builds you up from the beginning. She is the best professor I have had. This course requires a lot of time, be prepared to give at least 10 hr/wk. To do well attend all the classes, pay attention on what she covers in class. You need to read the chapters & do the questions to grasp the material and reading IFRS is crucial.
Professor Taylor really builds your knowledge and understanding from the beginning of the course. This course requires lots of time, be prepared to stay on top of readings, hw problems and putting in a lot of effort. To do well attend all the classes, pay attention on what she covers in class. Also understand and apply IFRS references for case.
Have to read relevant IFRS , and the text book. practice the questions some how final was easy . good if you attend all those classes becoz she gives so many exam clues
Do all the problems and master them. She's tough but a great teacher. You will learn a lot if you try.
She is one of the BEST PROFS at Ryerson. The term I was taking ACC703, there was no book for that course and she was able to teach us concepts very well. To this day I have lot of respect for her, because of her cases, I was able to do really well on my CMA case exam. If you want to pass, study hard and always visit her if you have concerns.
Thorough lectures that cover most of the material. Great at taking up cases in class and you benefit the most if you attempt the cases beforehand. Focused on teaching technical aspects and class time is devoted to solving assigned problems, which was very important to understanding the chapter. Knowledgeable with the most recent changes to IFRS.
Professor Taylor has tremendous industry knowledge, and learning financial accounting from her is an invaluable experience. I learned so much from her and I believe with hard work and determination anybody will find this course a rewarding experience as well. So if your going to pay for it, make use of it and learn as much as you can!!!
The key to success in 703 is being able to spend at the minimum 15 hours each week studying. Advice for mid-term: Do the practice questions on blackboard + Chpt 6 and make sure you give yourself 1 hour for the case as it is overmarked. For the final, study 6 & up to succeed. Prof. Taylor is quite passive aggressive, but she will help you succeed.
I learned so much from her because she is very detail oriented an thorough in her explanations. She likes to repeat in every single class that this course has a very high failure rate; I wish she would stop saying that because it's very demoralizing. Though her office door is open and welcoming, I personally found her to be abrasive and rude.
Most difficult accounting course you will ever take. That being said, she does a fantastic job of explaining all these difficult concepts. Take note of all the tips she gives you in class (how to write a case etc), solve the technical just like her examples in class. Very satisfying course once you've succeeded in the endThank you professor Taylor!
For the quiz, do the previous quiz she posts, tricks are found there- I got a 65%. Midterm almost everyone will fail but if you do the problems hours on end you will do fine. Final was easier, and she's an amazing prof if u see her during office hours she's helpful and actually very nice.. cant really study for cases just do the review a million x
Deidre is one of the best professors I've ever had. She is passionate, intelligent, and sincerely wants her students to do well. She strikes the fear of God into students - which is necessary be motivated and do well in this course. Go to class and follow Deidre's instructions to a tee. The gold standard for professors!
Midterm and final are unreasonably difficult and it is hard to even get a D with this prof. Cases are not fairly graded either. The concepts in themselves aren't too hard but this prof twists midterm/final questions to the point that they become incomprehensible. Most students have to repeat this course just to graduate.
The course is very challenging but exciting. Be ready to do your homework on time every week as the topics build on each other. Be ready to understand the substance of the material and do the cases. The professor is very knowlegeable, sophisticated and fair. Be sure you listen to every word she says, you will find it helpful for exam preparation.
Professor Taylor brings immense amount of fear to her students. If you are able to withstand that, it can be motivational; If not, you will not make it. The course material is very hard to understand, you must read the text before class to prepare, or you will fall behind. Overall, she is an inspirational prof, but her expectations are equally high
terrible professor, barely explains anything of worth in class and just goes over irrelevant stuff and goes so much in depth for no reason, brings up working hard every 2 minutes and side tracks so much, grades cases super tough and connect assignments are nothing like what she teaches in class, we are all super lucky she retires after this year
Probably one of the worst profs I've had at Ryerson. She is extremely rude and is always talking down on us. Her averages are extremely low and blames us for not being competent enough. Her lessons are hard to follow with her messy writing and she is not a fan of office hours. Thank god she is retiring after this semester. She hates teaching.
nice lady if it's not related to school, but as soon as it's accounting talk she's satan. Course was already very hard for students and she makes it worse by saying how simple it should be. Be prepared for every class and review after class, many hours of studying required.
