This class is incredibly time consuming. It takes at least a full day to complete the assignments for the week. On the plus side, the last half of the semester she gives an A on everything turned in. If you can take someone else, I would. Also, her testing times are very inconvenient, like Friday nights...
This Professor is great. I learned so much about things that are rarely taught like Pete Seeger and Woody Guthrie. She is not always the most punctual, but who really is. Make sure you listen when she says develop a thesis!! Great class not too time consuming. I worked and had 15 hours, made it through with an A just fine!
Not terribly time consuming. I did well on most of the assignments. The tests were a little difficult, but that's because it was an online class and I didn't really know what to study. I wish I would have had a lecture class, but I passed. It's pretty hard to teach yourself stuff.
Not a good teacher. just read the book and you will pass the class. prepare to write essays.
good teacher. take her popular music and social movements class. she is passionate about music history and it shows. she is also really nice and a downright groovy lady. i learned a lot and i thought i knew a lot about music already.
HORRIBLE class. Don't get me wrong. She is a sweet lady but this class is EXTREMELY time consuming and most of the work/your grade is all the online work you have to do. She gets aggravated very easily if you ask her questions and waste her time. I highly recommend someone else if possible. Attendance is mandatory as well.
Annoying professor. First day of class I felt like I was being treated like I was in middle school. Very writing intensive, prepare to write lengthy, detailed posts and essays to get a good grade. Test questions come from reading the book so read entire chapters. Passable class, but frustrating.
One of my least favorite classes. It's easy but time consuming. The professor gets easily distracted by everything. Every time someone goes to the bathroom, leaves early, or comes in late she stops the class and stares at them. Her use of vocabulary is also frustrating. She has probably said "cohere" and "quashed" more times than I can count.
I got an A. The class was online. It was more work than I feel it was worth. She's a hard grader. The tests are multiple essays. One long, 5-8 short plus FIB's. You had to complete a ton of additional assignments due once a week. There were online group projects, which was awful. However, if you put in a lot of effort, she's willing to help you.
This teacher is awful! she expect you to do a quiz along with an assignment along with group work EVERY week. The chapters you read are 30-40 pages each. She grades your 5 page midterms extremely hard as if you were in an English class! I WOULD NOT TAKE HER AT ALL
Don't expect a super easy online class. There are weekly assignments and quizzes, and some chat room discussion that is mandatory. You need the book. Just do what she asks and you'll be good though. She gives thorough powerpoints.
This class is very intimidating. I actually considered dropping. I had an emergency c section, premie baby 3 days prior to class starting and still made a B in the course. The work looks scary but it isnt. The papers will stress you out. relax! I never read a single chapter but used the book. Just turn everything in and take advantage of quizes
I would not recommend this professor, at least for an online course, at all. You could only find out the class grade from Catsweb a few weeks after.
Grades impossibly hard... the work load is almost unbearable. She is ruthless with her grading. If you have to work, don't take the class. If you have other responsibilities, don't take the class. If you have anything else going on in your life other than this history class, DO NOT take this class. Extremely time consuming.
I took Lannon for both History 1310 and History 1320. I was in Student Teaching during History 1320 and could not always get online while I was teaching or came home from teaching. I was only able to work on the weekends. I would turn in my homework on time but because I didn't participate early enough I received bad marks
Most Inconvenient, un flexible online class I've taken. Im a full time student and work full time as well and its nearly impossible to keep up with the work load. there's group assignments every week and everyone must submit the same work. its an online class that also takes attendance? ridiculous. exams are essays but don't expect to pass them.
Takin this class over summer semester online was the worst thing I could have ever done. I dont think she is very clear and it is reading and writing intensive. I say dont take her unless you are looking for a challenge.
Worst class I have ever taken in college. I am a senior and thought I could get away with taking this course online. I have never been more wrong in my life. I can't focus on my capstone classes because this class/professor is SO needy. She doesn't let you know how to do an assignment till you have failed and she gives you her feedback. DO NOT TAKE
This professor grades your paper very harshly. The hardest thing about this class are the exams which are essays. I reached out to her many times but she would just point out the wrong instead of telling me of ways I could fix my essays. You will have to work very hard to get an A.
easy a!! answers to quizzes are in free book online, she's easy to reach by email. quiz/group assignment every week, theyre super easy. didnt have to read much of the book and the class was a breeze
For the online class she is terrible. Gave us wrong due dates and didn't ever reply to emails. I would not recommend taking her online course
She grades ridiculous for an online course. You basically can't focus on anything but this course if you want to get a good grade. She even takes attendance. This is the worst course I've taken, and shes also really rude if you try to email her and ask for help.
She makes HIST more overwhelming than it needs to be. You have an individual assignment, group assignment, group discussion, 30 min film, textbook readings, and primary sources to do EVERY WEEK. She also keeps attendance and requires you do log onto TRACS 3 days a week. It's overkill. I wouldn't recommend unless you write well and enjoy homework.
AVOID THIS CLASS AT ALL COST. This was the worst class I've ever taken in my life. If you're trying for an easy A online course, take Tracy. Or at a community college. Do not take this class. Tons of work every week and she grades hard no matter how hard you try, perfect score is impossible. She's rude responding to messages or just doesn't respond
History is one of my favorite subjects and I took all my previous Political Science and History courses online before but this online Class with Lannon was different and I did not like the way this online course was taught. I would recommend taking Tracy bc I took her for History 1310 and she was great.
Prof. Lannon was a good instructor. Yes, the course was challenging and thank God I got a B, but she gave us opportunities for extra credit. Maybe it's because this was my last undergrad class and I've seen worse but this course was good so don't be discouraged. Do your work and try to score perfect on the assignments because the exam are tough.
I just wanted to give more info on the course. History at Texas State in general is very challenging and I enjoyed the online class because I had more flexibility to do the assignments. Prof. Lannon gave us 6 passes to not sign in TRACS and was from my perspective, fair in grading. All history profs are tough in grading, don't take it personal.
Took her for one of my minor courses. The course material is dense, but fascinating. Deirdre is passionate about the subject, and she wants to see her students succeed. Quick to respond to emails, offers great constructive criticism and feedback. If you put in the work, you'll be fine!
This was the HARDEST online class I have ever taken. She expects you to write like a 'Historian". This class requires a intense amount of work . I had email conversation with her and was very nice and seems like a great person. Just very hard work. This class should be classified as a honors class.
This was by far the worst course I've taken on my academic journey. Lannon offers no sort of feedback when distributing grades. When you reach out to her with a question, comment, or concern, she takes a while to respond and is incredibly condescending. If you don't provide the exact response she is looking for, don't expect to do well.
At first glance the course seems really interesting & you would think it being an online course it would be easy but that is the furthest thing from the truth. SAVE YOURSELF, HEED MY WORDS OF WARNING. It's a lot of work, she is a HARD grader who takes forever to respond to you & is never content with your work. Take an actual course instead of this
Prepare to spend hours putting in a lot of research and valued time to meet all her expectations just for her to give you a 76 because she flat out just doesnt like the way you did things. She doesnt leave feedback if she does its not to tell you that you are missing anything, just that she doesnt like it. Instructions are all over the place.
I took her online 1310 & 1320 at the same time online and I worried because all the comments but if you actually do the assignments and dont half ass it, you will do great. Make sure you read and actually do the study guides and youll be fine.
You'll be challenged but that's a good thing! Tests: define words by context, definition & significance. A review of 30 terms and two essays (review is exact of the test on TRACS and will randomly give you 5 terms and 1 essay). Prior to exam write C/D/S of each term use (CH, p. #) to refer back, populate outlines the same manner for essays. EZ day
If you want to take an online class, I highly suggest you take a different one. I had more homework for this class than in any of my other 4 classes. Her assignments are time consuming, and due on Friday's instead of Sunday's. She is an extremely tough grader, and almost everyone had problems. All major grades are from exam papers not tests.
She demands way too much for an otherwise simple class. She gets way off topic and drags the class on needlessly.

She is very specific on how she wants her papers and doesnt give very good feedback on your outlines. Work is time consuming and graded harshly. Everything is online. If you can take someone else please do so. She wants things a certain way and if are slightly off because of one thing she takes off a ton of points.

DO NOT TAKE HER. She takes advantage of the fact that her class is online and neglects her students and their needs. The workload is heavy for a basic history class, and she'll deduct your grade heavily for attendance which makes no sense because her class is online!
Worst class I've ever taken in my life. Too much work for one week. You have to watch 2 long documentary films, take 3-4 quizzes, do indi and group assignment each week. The exams are crazy.
In my opinion, this class was not as bad as it seems. Each week there are chapter quizzes, an individual and a group assignment. Most times the group and individual assignment go hand in hand and the chapter quizzes are the same questions as the ones at the end of each chapter. If you manage your time like I did you will get an A! Would take again!
This is a 1310 class and way too difficult. I understand making it challenging but to give a 1000 word essay and only 2.5 hours to do it for the midterm is RIDICULOUS. Then an additional 1000 words for the other 5 definitions. 3.5 hours would be fairer but even then it is just ridiculous. Take someone else who treats the class as a prereq.
she was a very tough grader, shes open to help revise your paper but doesnt give points back. there are 5 "milestones" papers that eventually will make up to be your final paper. those each are about 500-700 words each... each unit is 2 weeks, no tests just papers and 2 quizzes/unit.
She is late with getting most grades back. You have to ask for your feedback for most of the papers. Doesnt like to use her email if you are taking her online, so you have to stay on tracs for her response. She also just grades really hard on a class that shouldnt be hard.
A very sweet lady makes sure to explain in-depth her expectations. Assignments are tedious but can be easy, four major assignments that lead up to the final. Willing to give you feedback and makes "checking in" with her easy as an assignment every Sunday.

The assignments were tough but she gives good feedback so you know what to do next time and sometimes she'll let you edit assignments for a better grade. Same assignments every two weeks so it adds up if you don't spread it out. No lectures or tests. Final paper at the end of the semester.
Absolutely terrible work ethic. I have asked for feedback 3 separate times and each time I've been brushed off or she has flat out ignored my question, I finally get an answer and what does she do? Refer me to the ASSIGNMENT I AM ASKING ABOUT. Let me be clear, she DOES NOT take the time to properly communicate with students and it shows.
This is by far the most frustrating professor I've ever worked with. She gives you a bad grade on an assignment but doesn't give you any feedback. I don't think she actually reads what students submit because I got an F for "missing a section" that was clearly in my paper, so avoid this woman at all costs. It'll save you a lot of frustration.
When reading the commits prior to attending the semester I was intimated by all commits, however after taking the class it wasn't as horrible as everyone made it sound. Yes there is a lot of work, however if you don't procrastinate you'll be okay. All the assignments are steps to the final paper She gives feedback and allows improvement Good luck!
Do NOT take her as a professor she is rude and not an understanding teacher. You will be doing homework for hours and hours each day it is terrible and so much work especially when I work and am taking another class. DO NOT TAKE. Definitely the worst professor I have taken and the is not even over yet
There are a few kinds of people who take the time out of their day to write a bad review about a professor. I never imagined myself as one of those people. For reference, I'm a senior taking this course over the summer, and I would hesitate to call what she teaches history. One of the assignments will literally have you listening to rap. Dont take!
She is very rude, disrespectful and I honestly feel she doesnt deserve to be teaching at this university. I wish I could give her zero stars but unfortunately you cant. Dont expect to be treated with respect in her class.
I have never dealt with not only a horrible professor but a horrible human being. She has absolutely no empathy for any of her students and does not teach anything. If you've made an honest mistake do not go looking to her for sympathy. Her class has honestly made me rethink if I want to continue attending Texas State. Listen to these comments.
Her class isn't difficult at all. There are no lectures, which is nice. Most of the assignments are questions over each chapter, and you don't even need to read the textbook to answer them. No exams or essays. There are discussions for each module that are pretty easy. I took her for HIST 1310 and 1320, and I recommend her for both. Easy classes.
Class is pretty easy, but heavy workload so don't procrastinate. Textbook is a free online pdf that doesn't always line up with hw questions. Biweekly discussion posts make up most of your grade, so if you hate those, this isn't the class for you. No tests. There is one writing assignment at the end that has no instruction which was frustrating.
Lots of readings every week! This class is easy to follow as it is the same assignment structure all semester but it is pretty dry in my opinion. Just discussions, reading and homework every week.

Dr. Lannon is awesome! I don't understand why she has such low ratings, but she's very nice. There is a lot of homework, but it isn't hard; it's literally doing chapter and video questions. For the essays, it's only a short discussion post.10/10 recommend, plus there is a huge opportunity for extra credit!
I would not take this professor again in any of my history classes. She dont give clear instructions and she do not understand what you are trying to say no clarity from her side she will give chance to redo the Assignment but still she dont know what she wants

Class isn't hard there's just lots of busy work and she's super specific. One of these teachers that asks for your above and beyond while having typos throughout all the modules. Be prepared to read and write a lot.
I took this class as a fully distance summer class, there were a lot of assignments due each week but all together the assignments were not that difficult. They are mostly multiple choice with explanation required, but it is easy to complete in time for the deadline using the book. She did not seem to grade very hard on each assignment.
In the first week of classes, I accidentally submitted an assignment blank. I emailed her asking if I could still do the assignment for the grade, and she essentially told me no and to take the zero. As someone who is studying to be an educator, this is VERY disheartening and is directly setting me up to not do well in her class.
This professor demolished my grade point average and completely sent me into a state of panic. She is grading for a college she doesn't even teach at and she has completely ruined kids'grades who worked extremely hard to achieve success. Grading hard is one thing, being inconsistent and screwing smart kids over is another.
Beware that half of your grade is based on essay-like discussion posts. Generally I get high Bs low As on essays, never got above an 80 in this class. The quizzes are easy and can be taken multiple times, and the video assignments aren't super difficult. All instructions are pretty clear, she's just a harsh grader on stuff worth half your grade.
Prof Lannon is not the best. She is very inconsistent and seems to give out grades randomly. She is hard to get in contact with and can be pretty rude/demeaning. You can get through her class, but I'm thankful that I'll never have to deal with this class again. Lot's of writing each week so be ready to get burnt out.
Very easy class imo. She likes to give out a lot of writing assignments each week, but they aren't difficult just very time consuming. Grading is extremely slow and feedback is nonexistent. Overall this is a easy class if you are able to write a lot.
took HIST 1320 during the June semester, and it was so easy. You have about 3 video assignments and 3 textbook assignments per week, as well as a few extra assignments and two discussion posts. It is very easy to get an A in the class, and she is always there to answer back to emails. Honestly, the best and chillest professor I've ever had.
I loved this professor. Make sure you focus on the modules instead of the To-Do list as the assignments don't have "due dates" set on Canvas even though they are due every Friday. She was a pretty chill grader and as long as you put effort into your assignments and read the material, you should finish with an A.

Not sure what's up with the low reviews. There are weekly videos summaries and quizzes which are easy. Five discussion posts, source notes assignment, and an essay at the end. Don't procrastinate the Source Notes because it will take hours. Professor seems nice over Canvas announcements, but she is strict with deadlines.
The class average for the “introduce yourself” discussion post was a 69. Do with that what you will.
Really was not that hard. The discussion posts due every week were annoying though, and definitely proved this class to be writing intensive. Had grace in her grading. A problem for me was that she didn't allow us to see our final grade until the university posted them, no feedback or knowledge of final essay grade.
It's not that hard to pass. She will not give feedback on assignments besides a general rubric so don't expect to understand the random grades. Nice professor to talk to when I needed help.

Her class isn't easy, but it's not the hardest if you don't get behind. There is a lot of reading and it is writing heavy, essays, notes about videos she requires you to watch every week, and discussion posts. She did seem a bit condescending when questioning specific things.
Gives vague explanations of what the expectations of an assignment are. Then took off points because it's not what they want. If you want quality work, give quality instructions.

insanely tough grader with no clear guidelines of what's required on the assignments. the quizzes aren't that hard but when it comes to the essays, discussions and writing assignments don't expect to even come close to a good grade even when you put in effort and submit a good assignment. very condescending

This professor is very tough, looks for perfection, and does not recognize student efforts. Very oicky on how you respond to prompts.
Not sure what all the other reviews are about, the only reason I didn't receive a higher grade in her class was because I missed a handful of assignments because there were SO MANY, and a lot of them were busy work. Gave plenty of time on assignments and gave points even if they were very late.
She is a tough grader, and her communication can feel condescending and defensive. For example, she has a feedback survey and asks what could be better. I said that I would like some feedback on why she took points off, and she replied that there was no way to provide feedback on grading. Then she provided feedback on every paper after.
