She's really nice, very helpful and isn't too hard on you. She's the kind of professor you could sit down to a cup of coffee with. I absolutely recommend her!

Very cool. She is so nice, that she has to actually TRY, in order to be critical of her students. She does wait way too long to make us do speeches, but she makes an otherwise gruesome GER, completely painless. A+

I concur with all the good things that people had to say about her. Wonderful woman and a great teacher. One word of caution, however... She is VERY passionate about theatre and doesn't appreciate people who think they can blow her class off. This class isn't an easy A. The tests are kind of hard.

This class was interesting, fun and easy. The papers were semi tough but the midterm and final answers were all found in the study sheet she provides. She is a very passionate teacher who does indeed care about her students. Just give that back to her and you will do fine.

Deidre made learning about all of the elements of theatre very interesting. She was able to convey the fact that there is much more to theatre than simply watching a play.The history of theatre was what was most interesting to me. I will never forget her because of her energetic and enthusiastic teaching style.

Breath of fresh air amidst the doldrums of regular classes. Knows her stuff. tests are in the form of short acting sessions with a partner/partners. I haven't had this much fun in a class in a really long time. Excellent choice regardless of major.

She is an amazing professor. Very straighforward and very willing to help. Is not hard as long as you do the work. I strongly recommend taking her! It took me a few weeks to realize, but i would without question take her again. :-)

She's an incredibly nice and fun teacher. This is especially good if you're nervous about getting up in front of people, since it creates a very relaxed and fun environment. Don't skimp on the work, though. You'll only hurt yourself. Definitely worth a try if you need to fulfill an Arts requirement.

Deirdre is an awesome professor who truely does care about her students. She is very sarcastic and she relates to college students very well. Her class is very laid back and fun.

The class is not easy, But She Makes It exciting... She is pretty funny too! There Are 3 Solo Presentations, A Group Presentation, and A Final Presentation, and a couple of written things. Attendance IS mandatory and you really need to work hard because she expects alot from her students.

She's a very good professor, and she keeps it interesting. You must watch 4 plays, 2 on campus, 2 off. Grades very easily. Oh yea, and she's also gorgeous. (much more attractive than any of the girls in the class!)

Oh please, if your schedule doesn't allow you to be on time, take another class. I took her and she just lowered our grade after 2 absences, not fail. She was great, interesting, committed, caring and SMART!!!!

The tardy/attendance policy IS really strict. While its good when you're on time, it can ruin your day if traffic makes you a minute or two late and the door is shut. She's insanely nice, helpful, and understanding. She wants everyone to be comfortable. Be sure to take her!

Do not take her class if you have any problems with attendance. If you are 5 minutes late she wont let you in the class, no excuses. Class itself is not bad, she goes over the book and is helpful.3 presentations and 5 quizzes.Is uber-liberal,so if your not i advise to keep your mouth shut. She is outstanding. I would absolutely suggest taking her communication skills class. She always keeps you on your toes and truly has a passion for her teaching and the success of her students. Her biggest and most difficult rule for some people is.. do not be late! Amazing class overall!

One of the absolute best professors I have had! SO enthusiastic, loves to come in with phrases such as "goodmorning my sunshines!!!" she can really keep you awake, even for your 8am.. but if you're going to be late, don't bother showing up. Highly recommended for Human Communication Skills. She expects a good amount from you, but it's all worth it!

Great Professor, Keeps me laughing and entertained all class. You learn so much stuff with her that you will USE in life. Does not give any tests besides for a midterm and final. apx.3 projects the entire semester. Only downside is she HATES tardiness and wants everyone to participate. Super nice too! Absolutely adored her. I wish I could take all my classes with her. She gives amazing lectures, and also great life tips. Tells great stories that are relatable, and relate to the class. One of my favorites! She is hilarious! She is also very helpful when trying to give speeches. Can be intimidating but you will get use to it. Do not be late. Professor McCarthy is a great teacher. She is VERY intimidating at first because she doesn't want students to waste her time, but, as long as you come to class and do your best, you will do fine. Her two exams are extremely and she is more than helpful with the two speeches. She expects you to come to class, having read the chapter, so be prepared!

She is essentially a second mom to you if you do what you need to and don't screw around. Loves to talk about old stories and life lessons, but is very firm on attendance and presentations. You will only regret taking her If you can't handle having a friend-like teacher.

If you can, TAKE HER CLASS!! She is one of the nicest profesors but she doesn't let you walk all over her. Do the work well, don't goof off, participate and you'll ace it.

Great teacher and person! HW do often, but its just outlining chapters in the book. Two major speeches are most of your grade, and are not an easy A, you really have to put time and effort in. Understands kids are nervous, so if you have the material you will do fine. Only negative is the quick turnaround for speeches, they are due a weel after!

Professor McCarthy is a very sassy woman. Don't give her crap because she will smear it back in your face. She was very strict and up front about her expectations, but also very fair in her grading. She doesn't allow more than 3 absences unless you have a note (i.e. a receipt for your car accident or doctor's visit). She is high recommended.

HIGHLY, HIGHLY recommend taking a class with Professor McCarthy!! I took her to fulfill my public speaking requirement. In the end I actually grew to enjoy the class and enjoyed going. I am actually considering taking her Intro to Acting class because I enjoyed her Oral Interpretation class so much. She is a professor that genuinely cares.

Take this class!! Professor McCarthy is great! I took this class as a speaking intensive elective and dreaded it. I loved the class and would take another class with her if I could. She can be a bit tough but if you are on her good side you will be fine. Wants her students t succeed and is extremely helpful. 4 presentations in front of the class.

Great teacher. My class has become a family, I absolutely love her. She comes off very tough but the class is enjoyable. Definitely helps you become more confident when it comes to speaking in front of a class. Not a lot of homework.

Deidre is the BEST Professor at BSU! If your looking for an easy A I would go with a different professor because even though the work load is a fair amount, you MUST do ALL the work in order to pass. The classes are fun and from day one you learn all your classmates names which creates a homey atmosphere.

I am a terrible public speaker. Always have been. Deirdre made me less nervous every class. Don't get me wrong, I would still shake in my boots when I got up in front of the class, but overall she really helped with the anxiety of public speaking. You choose your poetrystorys to read and there is one partner piece at the end. I'm glad I took her.

At first I was not a fan. I pushed limits and didn't care. To the point that I almost got kicked out of class. When she reached out to me and showed me she cared it changed my outlook on her and this class. She still checks in on me and truly does care about all her students.

I am very shy, but taking this class she made it feel very comfortable, she reaches out to you and only wants what is best. I would take this class over again if i could she is such an inspiring person and so funny. Helpful and understanding deff pushes you to be the best you can.

As a freshman, I was very concerned about taking Oral Interp. first semester since I'm not a strong public speaker. Deirdre McCarthy changes that about you. She believes in you and pushes you out of your comfort zone. I have never enjoyed a class so much, ever. I can't wait to take another class with her! Take this class, you'll enjoy it!

Professor Deidre was a blast!She is a tough grader, but with the 3 performances we did in a semester the rest was easy. Don't be late, she won't let you in! She has a high standard for what she wants in a performance but if you try your hardest, she'll give you the grade you deserve. Highly recommend oral interpretation instead of public speaking.

Professor McCarthy is so much more than a great professor, she honestly cares about her students. Her class was focused on reading chapters of the book at home (really cheap book) and discussing it in class. There were a lot of meaningful discussions in class and she really cares to help her students succeed! Will take more classes with her!

This Woman is amazing. I have never met a person who genuinely cares about each and every student that sits in that classroom. She will turn that class into a family by the end and it is one of the best parts of my first semester of college. She pushes you to find a deeper meaning in all readings and it makes you love literary works so much more

Group discussions were engaging, interesting, and fun. She has a lot of wisdom to offer her students and respects different opinions. She got a little scattered because of personal issues during the semester but she held it together and I learned a lot from her class and from her. A kind soul and a great teacher.

Probably the best professor I've ever had. Truly cares about all of her students and wants you to succeed. She teaches right out of the book, so make sure you take notes. Try to participate in class as well, and don't be late because she won't let you in. She also tries to make it more than just a theater class. I highly recommend taking her class.

Deirdre has a wonderful philosophy about teaching, "life before content." She cares about her students more than the material, which is a great thing. She is truly an inspiration to all. I took her Sexual Ethics class and found the topic to be hard to get through but she made the experience very positive. The class is discussion-based with essay assignments. She is very understanding and wants to communicate with students to allow them to succeed. Would take again!

I took her sexual ethics class, and it was hands down one of the best classes I've ever taken. She makes everyone give an opinion at least once every class but there's never really a time when you won't have an opinion about the subject. She cancels class often and does give a lot of reading, but you can get by with reading parts of it.

Deirdre is sarcastic, funny and overflowing with personality. Her resume is a mile long! She's as quick to call you out on your BS as she is to support you if nervous when giving a speech. Very aware of students' needs and a fair grader. Only way to fail is to not show up. Put some effort in and you'll be rewarded. Textbook is rarely used

Honestly the best professor I've ever had. She's so caring and will make sure to respond to you. (Her dog is also super cute.) The assignments were reasonable and honestly not hard if you accept her feedback. She will sometimes let you re-write things for a re-try. 10/10
