She is a good teacher but is one crazy lady. Tests arent bad at all.
Test arent bad- 5 short answer and 1 essay. She's a kook in the classroom but can tell that she knows what she is talking about and loves what she is doing. All-in-all, this class is pretty easy.
She is a great teacher and tells you what you need to know for her tests and gives a review sheet. She really knows what she is talking about and tries ta keep the subjects as not boring as possible...she acts crazy sometimes but shes a great teacher
I love this teacher...I'm taking a 3 hour saturday class and I actually enjoy it. She really gets into the stuff and loves what she's talking about...tests and work are super easy and she totally wants to help you.Definitely reccomend her!
She is pretty annoying, and she makes you feel like you are in high school again, but the test are really easy.
Her class is easy. She doesn't prepare you for the tests very well. She seems pretty airheaded and flaky.
Really crazy so it keeps you interested most of the time. Tests aren't that bad but she grades hard on the essays. She cares and wants to help, good teacher. :o)
She's a good teacher, she keeps class interesting. She really likes what she's doing, and is eager to help. The class wasn't too hard, with any other teacher it would have been boring.
Anyone who says this teacher doesn't help is a loon. She gives lots of office hours and will talk everything out with you and help you to prepare for tests just read the mat. I ONLY WISH HER 2020 was at a time i could go. DEFINITE TEACHER YOU WANT TO TAKE.
Amazing teacher. She really cares about you learning. If you go to her office, she will help you with anything. I strongly recommend her!!!!!!
Ms. O'Shea has a very crazy teaching style so you won't fall asleep, but she gets side tracked and confuses at times. The test are pretty hard considerding they only have 5 questions from a study guide of 100 plus and essays.
She's really high energy--you totally can't fall asleep in her class, because she'll bust you. She really knows the material, and makes it fun. The tests are hard, but she goes over the material well.
She is very energetic and very helpful. If you study the exam reviews you will do well in her class. I wish I could take her for 2020.
She was a very good teacher although very energetic and clumsy. I am glad she gave reviews except that they had 50 items on them and there were only 5 questions on the essay test.
Warning I ran into this professor and she is totally redoing the structure of have class. I dropped the class as soon as I got home. Just a watning, I still like her and everything but I am going to try and find another class.
Ms. O'Shea's class is kinda hard and kinda easy. I don't think her essays are that hard, but her tests are definately hard. You need to study for them.
EASY CLASS!! Feels like a middle school class..teacher is kinda strange and nerdy...but it's SO easy.. take her!
This is one of the few teachers who really cares about you doing well and learning and tries so hard to make sure you do. Just talk to her. If you think her class is hard you haven't seen others. She gives you a review sheet, use it. AWESOME TEACHER!
not easy. you have to try. so if you want easy try some one else.only 3 test 2 papers so you cant mess up and test are hard as hell
I absolutely loved this teacher! She is so helpful and really cares about your learning. All these posts said she was hard, but all you have to do is put forth some effort and you are in good shape. I highly recommend her.
she really cares...she gets off subject sometimes and is very dramatic with her lectures but it's only because she is TRYING to make it interesting she gives you choices for essays and a list of terms to study before every exam, plus use cheat sheet!
You have to go to class which I hate!! Tests are really hard gives you like 50 terms and test only has 5 of them and they are each worth 10 points. Essays were easy but you MUST study! If you take her don't take a 3 hour class bc you'll die of boredom.
Class is very easy (3 essays, 3 tests). She can talk a lot and go off topic, but she knows what she's talking about and means well. You can tell she's very passionate about her subject, and is always willing to help. I recommend her.
Ms. O'Shea is a great teacher, she made a very boring subject for me fun and interesting. If you go to class you will be fine, tests are from her lectures. I hope she teaches 2020 in the fall!!!
I hated this professor. Sure I did okay but can one say boorringggg! Ugh. Find someone else, she is so dull I swear she did it on purpose.
Awesome teacher, made it interesting and easy to follow. Helps that she is a little crazy too!
thought she made the class "fun", but actually made it the most boring class in the world. knows her stuff, just incredibly BORING! tests/ essays not too bad, shge gives you a study sheet ahead of time. can't stress it enough: BBBOOORRRIIINNNGGG!!!!
I hate this teacher. She tries to remake things or whatever, like that helps or whatever? She gives you a review sheet, and like walks up straight to you and asks you a question. Freak show, not hard, not easy. Just borring and more morring, course so is the subject, but stil, avoid, avoid avoid
She is crazy about history which can be overwhelming sometimes, but it's always good to have a professor who actually knows what they're talking about. I recommend her and will be taking her for my 2020 class as well.

I loved Ms.O'Shea. She's a really fun professor. Tests are very easy as long as you go to class, take notes, and read some of the book. I am definitly going to take her for AMH 2020.
Passionate about subject and thus makes class very interesting! Provides review sheet so there is no doubt about what to study. Grades will correlate with attendance and effort put forth. Highly recommend!
I love Mrs. O'Shea. As long as you know the review sheet, you'll do fine. She really wants to see all the students do well.
this class is one of the best history classes ive taken. She is really fair and admits to being somewhat easy on grading. take this class
Her test are extremely simple, and the in class essays are just as easy. There were 2 take home essay things and they took a good bit of time. But just fill out the review sheet study for an hour the night before and 30 minutes in the morning..i got 2 100's so far..shes cool
She is such a nice lady. She is crazy about history and really knows what she is talking about. Easy tests, 2 easy essays, and 2 in class essays. Gives review sheets. I am taking her for AMH 2020 in the Spring. Highly recommend!!
SHE JUST LOOKS CRAZY. SHE MAY DO GOOFY THINGS 2 GRAB & KEEP UR ATTENTION; QUITE HELPFUL WHEN UR IN A 7:30A CLASS.
I thought she was awesome, the class was easy but you still learn a lot. It's taught like a story, it wasn't boring even when I was tired. It was more than reallly manageable and I made sure to get her again for 2020. Rock on Ms. O'Shea you crack me up.
Excellent Professor and the best history teacher I've ever had! Very good and fair on testing. Do the review sheet and you'll ace the test. Easy, interesting, and fun paper topics. 2 easy group essays. TAKE HER, you won't regret it! Makes class fun and easy, and you will want to go to class.
She's very funny and loves teaching. Very energetic. Easy tests and papers. Go to class, do all the assignments and you'll be fine.
Very Nice Lady, Loves the topic of which she speaks. She is an odd one...but that's her style. Outlines what you need to know for the tests with the review sheet and the AMH 2010 book were pretty much her notes to the "T". I didn't class aside from test days and group essays. I got a B.
DO her study guide and go to class and you will do awesome. I got a B only because i didnt study for the first of 3 tests. Take her if u get the chance.
I had her for AMH 2010 and loved her so decided to take her for 2020. If you are looking for an easy A this is it but you still learn a lot of information. Awesome teacher.
Simply awesome, I would recommend her to anyone. She's so funny and the class is actually managable and easy, esp. if you just go and listen, which isn't hard to do because she does weird antics.
Awesome teacher, really cares about her students and their learning. Understands not everyone is a history major!
AWESOME, AWESOME, AWESOME!!! Truly one of the best, if not the best, teacher I have ever had, regardless of subject. Gets you really interest in the subject, which helps to remember things on the test easier.
SHES AWESOME! A LITTLE WACKY BUT NICE LADY. EASY TO TALK TO AND SHE'S ALWAYS WILLING TO HELP YOU. LISTEN AND TAKE GOOD NOTES ON HER LECTURES!
Wow! the teacher loves to ramble on with side stories about the president. When her tests come be very careful. Hopefully you studied everything because their are questions about topics not mentioned in the review list. However, i was happy their is no group work.
You will think she's a nut, but she's soooo awesome!!! She is willing to help students to ANY length, and she cares for us all deeply. Don't go online during class and PAY ATTENTION! You'll do great
She is an awesome teacher! Her lectures follow the book so you don't fall behing when you miss class. She grades papers very easily. Her tests are easy as long as you read over the notes or book. I encourage you take her
Do not take this teacher. She is strict and just really mean.
Take her if you get the chance. She doesn't take attendence but it really helps if you go. I didn't read the book, just took notes and ended up doing well. She is a little unusual but keeps the class intertained. She let us out early every day! Great professor
She is an awesome teacher. She is always willing to help. Shes funny and keeps the class involved. She made history fun. Two easy papers, and three tests. Very fair grader. Gives review sheets on the tests. I wish I could have got her for 2020.
Mrs. O'Shea is one of the funniest teachers I've ever had. Her class is easy as long as you attend. Make sure you take notes and study from the study guide she gives. The test should be a piece of cake if you read your notes and the study guide!
Nice lady. No extra credit, but if you read the book, attend class, take notes, and study, you'll do fine. She is energetic, and makes class interesting. Good history instructor. I'd take again - wish I had taken 2020 with her too.
She is a decent teacher if you go to class. I never went to class, got a B+ cause I did bad on one test. Tests are easy if you study the review, attendance is very optional, just keep up with the schedule changes.
If you never go to class and never do homework, this class is for you. She never takes attendance and never gives assignments. However, don't screw up on the tests, they're your only grade and there is no extra credit.
The woman loves her history and will get really into her lectures. I found this to be a good thing and it helped me stay focused. She gives you a list of key terms. Know those and you will ace the tests.
probably the best history teacher i've had. Keeps things interesting and gives a good review. Just look up all the terms and you'll be fine. THere are 2 papers and they are okay since she pretty much outlines what you have to write. NO worries! SHe ROCKS
She's nice, easy, and makes class somewhat interesting. Her exams are easy as long as you study her reviews, and the two in class essays are no-brainers. She gives you time to prepare them...so it's impossible to fail her class. Definitely take her!!!
Teaches very well. Got a B in it through Summer A. Fast pace and test questions are rather obscure. Memorize mostly KEY PEOPLE and KEY PLACES/EVENTS. Don't need to know most anything else. It's honestly memorization of people/places and fill in the blank tests. I liked her teaching style and she DOES know her history very well.
She was an awesome professor and she really knows her stuff and dosnt not make the facts complicated. It's very basic. I was pretty sure I was suppose to get a B in her class but she ended up giving me an A anyway. Great professor.
This professor was awesome, goto class, take some notes, review the book with you review sheet, and you'll get an easy A if not B. She is interesting and cares about people learning. Also, I saw people state she doesn't give extra credit. This is college you morons, if you need extra credit you need to go home cause you're lazy or stupid.
Great professor. She teaches in a way that is entertaining and doesn't complicate things so they're easy to understand. Go to class and take notes, it is a lot easier than reading and studying on your own. Do the study guides for the tests and you'll do fine.
Good teacher, really loves history and gets into her teaching. Tests aren't too hard, just go to class and read the book. attendance isn't mandatory but i would try to go as much as possible. has 2 essayf for test grades. make sure you talk about EVERYTHING she asks about in the essays and you will do fine.
I love this class...i recommend this professor she was a great help and made the material very easy to understand. She is great and keeps your attention in class...the best part about this class was her giving nicknames to students for ex. this one kid was Mr. Harrison and that was his name all semester...she really cares about her students and tri
SHE IS THE GREATEST PROFESSOR AT UCF!!! She is funny, she loves to demonstrated battles for the class, and her tests come straight from her notes. Take her! You will regret it if u dont. P.S. Her late policy is a joke, she is mean in the beging just to scare students off, but she is really the sweetest person. I <3 Professor O'Shea!!
Easy class. All you have to do is study the review and you can ace the test. Lectures are good too, she keeps you interested.
SHE'S THE BEST!!! Really good teacher. Kinda easy, you have to study a little bit though. She's also funny.
Ms. O'Shea is very entertaining and is really into teaching history. The class was simple, just read the book and take her notes during class. The two papers are not difficult to write and she gives helpful advice on topics. Easy A
Meh. I hated history to begin with, and this probably made me hate it more. If you want to hear her get overly excited about boring topics, then go to class. If not, just read the book and you'll get the informaton needed for the test. At first, she seemed precious, then it just got annoying.
I agree with the other person, she really is boring, the structure is dull and you can basically walk out in the middle of class without her noticing.
This is a great professor, it was fun to go to class because she always put a lot of effort in explaining the material to the students, the tests are somewhat hard, you must go to class and do a brief review if you want to pass the class with an A. She is a real easy grader when it comes to essays, I WOULD DEFINETELY RECOMMEND HER. Lets out early
cool teacher, doesnt even make u remember dates
I love Ms. O'Shea. Best college teacher I've had so far. The tests are extremely easy, and she really cares about teaching. (She gets into the lectures; it's really funny)Also, she grades the essays pretty easily. Take her!
Awesome person! She is hilarious, she makes what would be boring, very interesting by acting out battles, etc. She cares about her students and wants them to do well. You do need to study pretty hard for tests but overall its an awesome class. I'm taking her next semester for 2020.
Best teacher I have had this semester. Makes everything easy to understand thanks to her true passion for the subject matter. Test are not hard thanks to large review posted weeks in advance. Genuinely cares about student success; evident in how attentive she is to in or out of class questions. Debate=easy A. Extremely nice. Highly recommended.
knows a lot about history and a really good teacher. plenty of notes that were helpful. fun class in general. dont listen to the haters. take this class!
If you go to class, take notes, and study the material you will do well. She is a funny teacher and explains everything thoughily. The debate is the easiest thing you will do all semester so dont sweat it. She is an easy grader on the in class essays too!
Very easy class. She is very enthusiastic about what she teaches. Just go to class and take down the notes, that's all you need. Or take turns with another student taking notes. Tests are very easy, just review the day before. She has questions on there like "Pick A!" She also grades the essays very easy and gives everyone 100% for the debates. :-)
great teacher, really nice, and really has a passion for history. she can explain things pretty well, and if you still don't get it she's very helpful in her office hours. she just wants everyone to do well. the class was very easy as long as you study. you don't even have to go to class everyday. definately the best history teacher i have heard of
Loved Ms. O'Shea. Extremely easy class with a great professor. Makes class interesting if you do show up you can skip out on class if you do the reviews.
EASY, EASY, EASY!!! Teacher is very easy, come to class, copy the notes and study easiest A in the world.
I took Professor O'Shea's AMH 2010 in Summer A and am totally missing her in Summer B. She's extremely interesting and easy to understand. I will admit I enjoy history a lot anyway, but Professor O'Shea is the best history teacher I've ever had - maybe the best teacher I've ever had, period. Easy too, just take her!!
Ms. O'shea is a great teacher. She is very interesting and her teaching style is unorthodox, but you will learn the material. She is very funny and her class is very straight forward and for some reason she called me Mr. Adams (as in the 2nd President) for most of the semester. TAKE HER FOR HISTORY, YOU WON'T REGRET IT!!!
Ms. O'Shea was off the wall - no lie. She was very animated during class with her reenactments BUT she's passionate about her History and her students. Made it easy to undersstand. She answered her emails in a timely manner, answered any questions or responses in class. Go to class, take the notes, and read the book and you will DO MORE THAN FINE.
I loved Dr. O'Shea. Her teaching style is very unique and she keeps you're attention through her crazy antics and acting out of battles. Her grading system is fair, and I would say it is fairly easy to get an A. I'm not a huge history fan but I enjoyed her class and definitely reccomend her
Great professor! Her lectures were never boring, and she tries to put things in terms that the student would find interesting and understand. Her tests are super easy as long as you go to class and listen. I would recommend her as a professor to anyone, no matter which subject in history you choose to take.
BEST TEACHER IVE EVER HAD! She actually cares about teaching and her students. Her tests are incredibly easy, study for an hour the day before or the day of and still get an A. Her in class essays are a breeze and the one paper she assigns is simple and interesting to do! I wish her classes pertained to my major so I could take more of her classes!
She is pretty dorky! Her class isnt that hard though just focus and you'll do fine. It's best to take her in the summer!
She is a really odd person. Lectures and gives notes during class. Attendance is not mandatory. 3 tests, 2 in-class essays, 1 paper. Nothing in this class was impossible, however, in order to do well you need to read the textbook OR go to class. If you study for the tests, you'll do fine, they're usually pretty easy. No cumulative final!
She is awful, waste of time to go to class. Follw the notes.
wonderful teacher! class consists of 3 essays and 3 tests. She gives you a review sheet and as long as you know the review sheet you will get an A. I recommend going to her office hours. Very helpful and so sweet :)
The easiest teacher at UCF! I bought the book then returned it cuz I just used her notes to study and still got an A. She's funny at times and boring on other days, but the best time to take her would be the summer!
Western Civ is really easy, and she makes it interesting. She's really wacky in a good way, has a great sense of humor and does her best to get the class involved. Tests are easy with lots of bonus points and giveaway questions. The essays she assigns are also really easy. Just study the review sheet before each exam and you'll do great.
She is really nice. Most of all the notes are on Powerpoint which makes it really easy to follow along. She puts them up on webcourses so you can print them out. As long as you go to class it is pretty easy. There is some reading involved, but it's not too bad. She really gets into her lectures and makes the class interesting.
AWESOME! wish i could take her for AMH 2020 but apparently its all filled up :( very funny and can be an easy class if you go to class and take notes =]
Four tests and three papers including the final. Haven't gotten under an A on anything so far. Gives key words to study and that along with a little cramming equals great success!!
Ok I was not a fan of American history because I thought I knew everything that there was to be known, however with professor O'Shea teaching she gives you uncommon facts that really keeps me interested. Her exams are easy and the essays (which you have 3) get annoying but are also easy. Do the reviews and your golden. =) Wish I could take her agai
O'Shea likes to teach. That means she's good at it. Makes boring material interesting. Unfortunately, you don't need to go to class to do well, but I recommend going because you will like her lectures, quite rare to actually enjoy going to class. 3 papers 3 tests, she grades pretty easy on papers and helps you out a bit on exams. Take her 4 history
She is very odd, yet entertaining. Tries her best to make history interesting for the students. You don't really need to go to class but I did. She ends 20 mins early every day. 3 essays and 3 tests. Easy grader on the essays. Study a day or two before the tests and you'll do fine. I got an A and I hate history.
BEST HISTORY TEACHER AT UCF!!! Ms. O' Shea really cares about her students and how they do in her class. She never takes attendance, but I always went to class anyway because it was very helpul. Your grade consists of 3 papers, 3 tests, and a short impact statement. Go to class, read the textbook, and you will do just fine.
easy class. showing up helps but is optional. if you dont show up, make sure to read the textbook. classes are usually entertaining.
Ms. O'Shea is great! She loves history and really knows her stuff. The class is pretty easy to get a B or an A in. I recommend it if you need an easy history class for your gen eds. There are assigned essays, and having the book will help with them. The tests come from the notes and lectures, and are loaded with easy extra credit questions.
She is a very good teacher. We used the primary source book for each of the essays. The essays and tests were not difficult. She usually tries to give a test review before each of the tests and posts a study guide. Going to class is helpful because she actually teaches and knows what she is talking about.
Didn't go to class at all, just turn in the essays and show up for tests. Very helpful if you need help, but the material is quite easy. Tests are kinda funny in how easy they are. Then again I'm a history major so its something im naturally good at. Recommended.
Her class is not too difficult. I do not like history at all but if you do the essays, go to class and review a little for the test you should be fine.
Professor O'Shea is great. She made going to class fun and interesting! The exams are simple if you go to class and she usually does an exam review. The essays were based on the primary source book and were grade easily in my opinion. Great class and would reccomend for anyone!
Ms. O'Shea really cares about her students, she's a great teacher & I definitely recommend her. I only went to class about 3 times and still got an A. All you have to do is the Exam outlines that she posts on Webcourses and you'll pretty much be set for the tests. She also gives extra credit and makes the class as easy for you as possible!
Amazing teacher! She keeps the interest of the class and is a fair grader. Fill out the review sheet to study before the test and you will do great.
great teacher! super sweet and funny. makes history fun. exams are easy based on powerpoints. if you need the book email me [email protected] :)
nice lady. tests are easy. makes class fun. 4 essays and 3 exams. go to class and a A will be obtained
Essays are a pain, though only 3, also she grades them pretty easily. I'm not a fantastic writer and I got an A on all of them. Tests are pretty easy too, she gives a lot of answers on them.
Awesome teacher. Really nice, wants you to do well. Go to class, GO TO HER REVIEW SESSIONS CLASS BEFORE THE TEST THEY ARE BASICALLY WHAT YOU NEED TO STUDY. Makes class interesting, or at least at interesting as possible. 3 papers, 3 exams, not too strict of a grader. Easy B work a little bit to get an A.
Awesome teacher. Really nice, wants you to do well. Go to class, GO TO HER REVIEW SESSIONS CLASS BEFORE THE TEST THEY ARE BASICALLY WHAT YOU NEED TO STUDY. Makes class interesting, or at least as interesting as possible. 3 papers, 3 exams, not too strict of a grader. Easy B work a little bit to get an A. A little hard to follow in lectures
I'm not a fan of history classes but it was a good idea to take O'Shea. She made things interesting. Essays were a pain but exams were fair. Take it to meet gen eds! Best history prof you'll have, in my opinion at least!
She's a great teacher, and passionate about the subject. She'll get you interested in the material, and is incredibly helpful if you have any questions. I recommend her class to anyone!
easy class. I wouldnt get the book but I would get the course reader. the course reader quizzes are really easy. the tests are easy as well and she throws in extra credit questions in the test. The hardest/annoying part are the 3 or so essays due. But they're not graded so harshly and the grading is based on a rubic so you can check yourself
She's quirky and makes jokes to keep you interested; lecture is always entertaining. She knows history and is passionate about it. Tests are really easy, just use notes/google for her review list and you'll be fine. She's pickier with the essays, but they're not too bad. Overall good, enjoyable class. Take her!
The class isn't too difficult. The essays are the hardest part, they count for a lot of your grade. The tests aren't that bad if you go to class and take notes. Professor O'Shea is a great teacher, she's very passionate about history and keeps class interesting. Just be willing to work hard on the papers to get a good grade.
She gives out a review sheet the last day of class before the test which is essentially the test itself. I barely studied and made A's on all the tests. The essays are the only slightly difficult part of the course but there is only 3 of them throughout the semester so if you work hard on them and go to the writing center you will make an A.
Awesome teacher, had a lot of fun in this class. She is funny but can be strange at times. This class is not boring, she actually puts the students into the discussion and in her "reinactments". If I could take another class with her I would. A+
Must take teacher for history. She is a good teacher with fair test. Key is to go to here review secession where she goes other everything needed for the test. She cares about her students who try in her class
Funny and cool prof. Her lectures were always entertaining. Her tests are not too hard if you go to her reviews and she grades pretty leniently on papers. One of my favorites. Textbook really helped me on most of the papers.
This class is easy, but you have to work for your grade. She gives 3 exams and 4 papers. You HAVE to own the book if you want to do good on the papers because thats the only source she lets you use.
Glad I took this class, looked forward to her quirky nature and teaching. If you are a good essay writer and can retain information pretty easily this is an easy A. Nail the essays and study decently for the tests and you'll get an A.
Good teacher! Cares about history and it shows in her teaching! Is willing to help with anything! Gives reviews for all the tests!
Class was pretty easy. Just take good notes, review the study guide that she gives at the beginning of each Unit, and go to the review before each test and an "A" will be possible
Her lectures are kind of all over the place and she's kind of weird but overall, it's not a bad class. 4 essays which are pretty hard, but tests are extremely easy. Also, easy weekly online homework grades that help to factor into your final grade
Essays graded pretty harshly and they are looooong. Tests hard even if you study and read chapters but you'll probably still get an A on them. Tries to make class interesting though.
The 4 essays for her class are sporadic grading. It really depends on the topic. Her tests are by far the easiest. At first I didn't like her class since the essays, but I really glad that I took her class. A little dry (well most of the time), but what do you expect? History to be interesting? Really, I would take her again for AMH2020.
Very good professor. Class was easy to get an A in. Not much work at all. Go to class, take some good notes and review the review sheet and perhaps read the textbook a little bit and you should have an A. Lectures were interesting at times. Essays were the only 'hard' part but overall they weren't bad at all. Tests were easy overall.
This was one of the best history classes I've taken. Professor O'Shea is really nice and she doesn't make it hard to get a good grade. The exams were easy and the essays were too as long as you outline them. I'd definitely recommend this class.
do not take this class! all these ratings are wrong. maybe bc i took it over the summer and it was a lot harder but still. her lectures are all over the place and the only way of learning the material is reading the textbook and teaching yourself. she's a harsh grader when it comes to essays. and her review sheets suck. do not take her!!!
O'Shea is great! She is pretty quirky and a little strange but she is so passionate about what she teaches it makes going to class fun. She wants everyone to do well and she makes her expectations very clear. If you read the text book this class should be an easy A.
Very good teacher. Seems to care about students. Don't have to attend class to do well. I went but if you read the book you'll be fine. She gives you essay topics before and study guides before exams so if you study you will be fine.
Professor O'Shea is amazing. If you think history is boring, take her class- she is interesting. If you want an "A"- take her class. Just pay attention to the lectures. If you want better grades on the essays- read.
Pretty fair teacher. Lets you know when stuff is due and gives early extra credit. Don't really have to go to class since everything is in the book. Not the best test taker so not going to talk about test. You really have to concentrate and actually do some work on the papers. Great teacher, can be really sassy though lol.
Entertaining, clear, some stories. Power points are just outlines, attend lectures!! Fair teacher, I like her, no favorites, but she seems to be harder on those she likes or expects a lot from. Essays can be reviewed during office hours at 7am. Impossible to get a 100 on anything, but I have a 96% in the class. very little extra credit. no quizzes.
Really nice and fair. Just 3 tests she will review with you the day before and 4 essays (not that hard) Should be a fun and simple class
She makes going to class fun and her lectures are interesting. The class had 3 tests (20t/f, 30 multi choice) and 4 essays. Go to class, follow her review sheet, and go to her exam review and you should be fine. GO TO OFFICE HOURS AND HAVE HER AND THE TA READ YOUR PAPER! She really helps and if you follow her advice, you should get an A on it(:
Her exams and easy if you come to class and take notes. The papers start off easy, but progress in difficulty. If you're not good at writing or hate it, then you will have a little trouble. Her lectures are interesting and she is a great professor.
She's a little crazy, but it keeps the class interesting! I took notes and studied and got an A. The only difficult party are the papers, but hey...that's college for you!
O'Shea is one of the easiest professors at UCF. The class had a couple of essays, and she literally gave the answers to the test the class before. Highly recommend her and would take her class again for wester civ 2.
Very funny lady. She grabs attention by comparing historical figures and events to jokes. There are three easy tests and four papers that increase in length but are easy with the textbook. Highly recommend textbook for the papers.
The best part of class is that her classes are so big that you can miss class as much as you want. She's a decent teacher but I don't think she belongs in a huge lecture hall, because she is always practically yelling for no reason. You have about 3 exams and 3 papers for the class. The textbook is very helpful. P.S. She said she is a loyalist.
Im taking her now. Her lectures jump all over the place. She gives small extra credits. And there are 4 essays (weigh the same or more than tests) and she gives a test review each class before the test. She is kinds funny. Loves history. I hate history with a passion but I have learned a lot in her class.
Strange lady, but easy class. Four large papers, but what else do you expect from a Gourdon Rule class? Tests are easy - 50Q's (30 multiple choice, 20 truefalse). Sometimes over-explains things. Go to office hours (or TA office hours) for help and feedback on all papers if you want a high A.
Professor O'Shea was an awesome and easy professor. Four papers, 2 tests, and the final which isn't cumulative. She is a pretty easy grader, majority of the class got B'sA's on papers. Class isn't mandatory, she just lectures about the book. So you can just read the book instead. Really easy class, no homework either.
I loved her as a professor, really nice woman. Tests aren't hard, although the essays can be difficult, but take it to her office hours and have her read it, she will tell you what needs to be fix. Gives opportunities for extra credit here and there.
She was nice but her lectures are all over the place. The tests are hard and essays are long. You dont need to go to class. Textbook is a must! I didnt go to class or take notes but i read the chapters before the tst and got a B in the class. I didnt like the class or structure but if its at a good time take her. Youll pass
good prof
Alright, so she's quite an interesting lady. Has some quirks, but they're likable! As long as you do the reading and listen to lectures, you'll do amazing in the class. Also, her "y" looks like a "t" when she writes, be warned.
O'Shea is an amazing teacher. Really gets into her lectures and captures your interest. It's as if she is telling you a story in class. Four essays. Need the textbook to have successful papers. Tests are easy. Attendance isn't mandatory but go to the review sessions before the test. She basically tells you whats going to be on them. Great class.
Professor O'Shea is very smart and she knows what she's talking. Shes also very passionate about history, so her lectures are very detailed. Her mannerisms are hilarious and I would love to take her class again! She grades a little tough on papers, but not too bad. 4 papers, 3 exams including the final, which isn't cumulative.
O'Shea loves history! She's passionate! But is an extremely tough grader on her four essays. Most people attended class only for tests. Power points posted online but you would have read for extra materialdetails. Extremely organized.
She's a very sweet person but if you Miss one assignment you're grade is done! WenT from a B to a D because of one essay and finished With a C. After the curve! Her lectures are everywhere so if you don't read or know a little background of the topic you won't pass
I loved professor O'Shea. She was great! Her lectures could be a bit boring sometimes but she always tried to keep everyone engaged in class. She gives 4 essays and 3 tests and 1 non-cumulative final. The tests are easy, she gives a review, but the essays can be a bit difficult. She can be a tough grader on the essays, it's easy to get a B on them.
This class was difficult. Her lectures are all over the place, and she's hard to follow. Her tests don't come from the notes at all, rather what she says and the book. You don't need to go to class, just read the book and take the tests and you'll pass. When asking for clarification on an assignment she's not the nicest. I prefer not going to class
Great professor! Very enthusiastic and cares about her students. She is so genuine and nice. I hate history so this class was boring for me but very easy. Her tests are easy if you go to the review. She tells you whats going to be on the test the class before the test. She doesn't give out 100 on her essays but its ok. Overall great woman :)
She is funny in a sarcastic way. Lectures are all over the place because she is clearly passionate about her class but the tests are easy with minimal studying and before every exam she does a review.
Professor O'Shea is awesome. She made Western Civilization 1 interesting for me. She is very clear on what she expects from her students. Her essays are interesting and not difficult. Her lectures are absolutely awesome and insightful. She has a strong passion for European history and knows the subject very well. Would take her again.
Her lectures are all over the place. Her notes don"t really help and if you don't read the book then passing her test will be difficult. Her essays are long but easy if your a good writer. I am not a fan of her as a professor, tho, she will help you if you ask. I won't recommend her class if you don't like to read.
A weird class in my opinion. Was confused a lot of the time and not sure how all topics related to each other, but her class is set up pretty clearly. She gives reviews the class before the test and is pretty much exactly what's on it. The prompts are hard to grasp for papers, but I never got lower than an 87% on one. I'd recommend still.
She is honestly a really good teacher and very generous with the bonus points. Tests are really easy because they're based on the book. Essays are brutal, but she is very gracious when she grades them. She is very funny and makes class interesting, even when she goes on a tangent. Take her
I honestly think this class was pretty hard. Definitely go to all classes if you are not a history person even though attendance doesn't matter. Lectures are kind of all over the place and I felt like some of the info didnt flow well.
A hilarious teacher with a sense of passion for what she does. Ask her about the most interesting Roman leader and she will talk your ear off. Papers are tough, but put in the time and you'll get a good grade. Need the textbook for the papers. Overall, an awesome professor.
The questions for the papers are poorly defined and can lead to a lot of confusion when writing them. Fair grader. Very boring class, you have to read the book online so there is very little reason to go to her class.
She was the best history teacher I've ever had in my life! She was fair in her grading and even gave us extra credit multiple times. I usually am not good at history but her lectures were actually so interesting. She captures your attention and if you go to class she helps you understand the essay prompts and suggests general ideas.
Prof was very caring about her students. Not the easiest class but she was very clear with her expectations and tests were fair. Quizzes were always online and super easy, literally just cross word puzzles sometimes. Lots of papers but they were all short and she was an easy grader.
She is a very good professor, funny, and really knows what she is talking about. Be ready to write several papers with vague guidelines.
Professor O'Shea is a pretty good teacher, she keeps an organized class format and makes herself available if you need her. I, however am not a fan of her teaching style. I found myself sitting through her lectures and teaching myself the material in the book later because she would not display any notes on the board despite broad titles.
Really difficult grader, but every test is open book
Class structure is great honestly; just do the online homework, exams, and papers. If you try to speak with her outside of office ours (even if it's before or after class) she won't talk to you and is quite rude about it. Feedback through e-mails are short and obviously rude. Lectures and PowerPoints are very non-specific and all over the place.
She is a wonderful professor and you can tell that she is knowledgeable about history. She makes the class interesting and I ended the class with an A with flying colors. Make sure to follow her essay prompts, do the inquisitive, and have the book open for the test. She also gives bonus points so that's a plus. She's great!!
Professor O'Shea is a pretty good choice. Not bad lectures and homework is okay if you try. Group projects are kinda annoying and I don't know why she does them. Sweet lady, kinda corny, overall pretty good.
O'shea is an easy professor if you already know how to write a paper and able to commit your whole life to her class. Her in-class powerpoints and lecture does not match causing you to choose between what she is saying and her slide to take notes. However, its an easy A because its all online. I never went to class and ended with a A.
O'shea is a easy professor is you do all of the online work, she's rude when you try to approach her outside of class. Her power points aren't very helpful, and her lectures do not help at all. Her directions when writing papers are very clear, but it is still difficult to receive a good score on them. The work is all online (quizzes and essays).
She truly cares, tries to make you laugh and give extra points out like candy.
She organizes her class well & makes this a very easy class. Her lectures don't match her power points. I just do the online chapters/homework in class. Or don't go, either way. Write 3 shortish essays and 3 discussions. 3 tests. Plenty of extra credit. Homework is just reading and answering practice questions. I'm going to take her for AMH2020.
O'shea's lectures are vastly different from the Powerpoint slides she has, which is good if you want different information, but bad if you want to study before class. The homework is around 40% of your total grade, 28% is 3 essays, and 27% are the 3 exams which are online. Pretty easy A since you can keep redoing the homework for 100%. Just do it.
attendance isn't mandatory but gives two pop extra credits in class. Her assignments (essays, tests, homework) were all so easy with the help of quiz let. I would go to her class because i like history but you really don't have to. super easy I 100% recommend
class was organized and lectures were fun considering it's history. homework is a couple assignments/week through Cengage (where textbook is) and it took about an hour. there are 2-3 discussions, tests, papers. tests are easy bc she says what's on them and discussions and papers are moderate you just have to read a lot to prep for them
Mrs. O'Shea is an amazing professor and gives lectures that keeps you awake. She gives out a lot of bonus points and is extremely caring. Probably one of the best teachers I will ever take in my college career. She gives a lot more leeway than she should have (just saying) so don't slack and test her patience as some had. Other than that easy A.
The class consists of three 1100-word term papers, MindTap homework assignments, and three exams. The class is easy overall just tedious work. Lectures are actually helpful but not mandatory. She is a nice funny woman who is willing to help if you need it. Prepare to do some textbook reading though.
Super easy class. Lectures can be a little redundant because you have online assignments. Three essays, gives great feedback and will review it ahead. Gives extra credit like crazy.
This professor was very rude. Took forever to answer emails and only answered one of several questions asked with minimal words. Assignments are not explained correctly, little direction is given, and you will have to do very large hard assignments for very little points. no actual teaching here. good luck!
Directions for assignments were very tedious. I often felt like I spent more time deciphering what exactly she expected from my papers than actually writing them. That being said, she does give lengthy feedback on essays so I guess it equals out. Power points that she post arent very helpful, better off reading the textbook yourself.
Grades for this class are based on 3 lengthy homework assignments spread throughout the semester, 3 exams, and 3 long historical essays. I've never had a problem trying to contact the professor and she always sends knowledgeable helpful announcements. DO NOT PROCRASTINATE ON THOSE HISTORICAL ESSAYS. They made this class most difficult for me.
This class wasn't exactly difficult but the assignments were kind of lengthy. There are about 3 long essays and online homework spread throughout the course along with 3 exams. Instructions for the assignments can be lengthy and somewhat confusing. Grading wasn't tough, overall the class was okay.
Grades are solely based on essays that are assigned randomly. Although the essay content isn't difficult, her instructions are NOT clear. She'll randomly email you with bullet points of expectations. The class is disorganized & for a professor, her grammar and writing sound VERY unprofessional. The content isn't difficult, it's the professor.
Multiple bonus points opportunities. Tough grader with writing. 50 ques. test25 T/F, 25 mult. choice w. some answers on Quizlet. Final not cumulative. Weekly 5 pnt assignments to boost your grade. She sends out emails every day, which can be overwhelming. If you stay involved and remotely try, you will pass.
Class overall is easy if you don't mind reading and writing. Three major papers were due that were quite lengthy and made the class unenjoyable. She is a very unclear communicator which made the writing assignments even harder. You should be able to get an A if you make an effort though because she offers extra credit and homework is easy.
She cares about students and offers grace periods for us to complete late work with no penalty, but also makes common spelling, syntax and grammar errors that genuinely make instructions unclear. She also assigns work in bulk; she unlocks four chapters at a time, due about a month in advance, and has random tests and essays. Room for improvement.
I was a little nervous taking her classes but she is actually a great professor. Beware of her essays, make sure you love writing. She gives great feedbacks on the essays. The exams are a little hard, just make sure to write lots of notes from the book. I would take her classes again.
I do not recommend. There are three papers throughout the semester and the instructions are extremely unclear. Whenever we would ask her to clarify she would give vague answers as well. No point in going to actual class, she goes off topic and records lectures anyways. Taught myself from the textbook for the most part. Hard grader and unorganized.
I have never taken a history class that did not allow me to use outside sources for essays, but O'Shea did. Using Chicago is difficult until you get more used to it, but you are only allowed to use the textbook for 1000-2000 word essays, and the book is not easy to navigate. Her grading is not clear at all and is overall not very helpful.
Fairly easy grader, but was very, very confusing. She was a really nice and sweet woman, but her instructions were constantly contradictory and very hard to navigate and understand. Four exams, easy LearningCurve points, and three essays that she graded leniently. Would not take again for the very confusing way she wrote and worded everything.
Grade is dependent upon 3 essays which are hard to complete only using the textbook as a source. Learning curves take 30 mins-1hour to complete and are only worth 5 points, a slap in the face. Attendance is not enforced. If you want to succeed in this class utilize the textbook and do those god forsaken learning curves to prepare you for the exam.
this class was awesome. some are so boring, but hers are great. as long as you do the homework you are fine. better in person than on zoom.
I stayed in this class past the first lecture due to the high reviews on rate my professor. I wished for my life I could've switched out. She seems very confused and does not like being there. She has told us to not come up to her after class because she does not want to talk anymore. She is a random grader, sometimes easy sometimes very critical.
She is quite odd in the way she discusses some of the history topics covered in this class and makes some jokes that the class doesn't understand or realize are jokes which is a little confusing at times. Unclear grading criteria especially in citations seemed every way I cited evidence was wrong. 3 tests a semester but not too bad of a class.
This professor was not the best at lecturing, if you don't take notes on the power point you won't understand. Learning curves take so long to finish, but it is an easy A. You will have lots of papers because this is a gordon-rule class, not just because the teacher wants to give you lots of work. She is a fairly simple grader for papers.
There are 6 essays and 1 resubmission worth 60% of the grade because this is a GRW course, but the larger number of essays prevents one bad grade from swaying the final grade too much. The grading criteria wasn't very clear. Attendance was mandatory. She had good intentions but would get way off track. Had to teach myself the material. Only 3 tests
Attendance was required and she lectured the whole time which wasn't good since she would get sidetracked or not explain something fully. I found reading the chapter made the lecture make more sense. If you want to pass the class you NEED to read. The papers are hard to write since her instructions were very confusing. She seems very nice though.
Her lectures felt like a waste of time and no matter how I took notes, the powerpoints felt useless. Reading the textbook is mandatory for assignments and is what got me through the course. GRW essays were often misformatted on canvas with unclear instructions and her grading feels random. Passed with an A at the skin of my teeth :/
Due to how short the lectures are and how much content needs to be covered, the lectures feel like brief overviews of chapters, so prepare to read and re-read. It's a lot of content you need to memorize each unit and papers require a lot of detail. I've found her to grade consistently unlike other reviews and she was very helpful when I had issues.
The textbook she assigns is really helpful and is not very difficult to understand or read. Will be taking her next class (AMH 2020).
Super interesting lectures in my opinion and incredibly nice. She really goes into your essays and grades them quite nicely. She gives a TON of extra credit opportunities and does really in-depth reviews before the multiple-choice tests. Essay tests are quite difficult but only because the school requires them to be.
One of the nicest professors ever. She works super hard to give good feedback on all the essays you write and gives lots of extra credit. Essay exams are pretty difficult. Takes attendance for a few of the lectures. The lectures are super helpful, be sure to take notes. Especially attend her review sessions.
3 multiple choice and 3 essay exams, 2 essays per exam. SmartBook instead of textbook, easy but time consuming if keeping up with them each week (not due until end of semester). Lectures are kinda boring but she goes over all of the topics for each exam during review lectures so they're very helpful. Study notes from reviews and it's pretty easy
I enjoyed her lectures she is very passionate about history and teaching. The tests were easy if you attend lectures especially the review before the tests. I never scored below 90 on any of the tests. She is a bit of a tough grader on essays and discussions. There's a lot of extra credit. I ended with an A- tho since she does not round up.
As someone who doesn't love history, Professor O'Shea was a great lecturer as she managed to keep my attention most of the time. She is a pretty tough grader but as long as you learn the material and try in the essay portion of the exams, you'll be okay! She also gave multiple extra credit opportunities and didn't give too much homework :)
Professor O'Shea is passionate about history, but the lectures can feel like rushed overviews. The exams and essays are challenging, but engage with the material and utilize study tools like unstuck ai, and you'll do well. Attend the review sessions - they're incredibly helpful.
I would not take this class again. When the professor is grading and her notes on the papers almost seem as if she has never actually read the book or the sources. It is evident that they have an issue when people have opposing opinions from their own. I am not saying this sitting at a bad grade, so you know that it is more likely to be true.
Great class. I loved the zombies. Open-book tests--seriously awesome. As long as you do the reviews and participate you'll do ok., She gives lots of extra credit, so don't skip those questions on the tests. Always available to talk to students at office hours unlike some other classes. Even does Zoom office hours if you have to work.
Tough but fair. I feel like I actually learned something, and had to work and THINK for my grade. Would def take another class with her
