Young, kinda rude. 3 tests and a final. Its all really hard. Quizzes every start of lab. You have to study ALOT! He throws in surprise questions that are kind of difficult. Doesn't really care if you fail so dont try to ask for anyway to help grade. Everyone in class got around C. If everyones failing that says something right?
Chem-107s a tough subject, so studying chapters from the book & powerpoints is a MUST. Dejan is a lil too fast during his lectures for my taste, but is there to answer any questions. Tests problems are mostly from the quizzes we take weekly. No lab praticals. Overall if u study, pay attention during lectures & speak up when confused youll pass!
Brand new teacher, but class steadily improved over time. Can get away with not purchasing the book as lectures are read straight off of slides. Test material is straight forward from lecture. Quiz's are given at the beginning of each lab! Grading system is very unclear! Some kind of curve to keep people from failing, but only gives out a few A's.
Very good professor. Lectures throughly for you to understand and learn. Very clear on whats gonna be on tests. Gives weekly extra credit. Fair grader. Has office hours, answers questions you might have. Makes chemistry interesting. Class attendance is important to learn the heavy material. Best teacher for Chemistry!
He's a great professor. All the notes taken in class are on canvas. He has office hours and is very helpful to questions. There are weekly quizzes, but they come in handy because they are similar to the test questions. Tests are free response, but he gives study guides that mirror tests. Tough class, but a pretty good professor!
Great professor. Uses free book via Openstax. Lab assignments are tedious but he grades fairly on them. He assigns weekly quizzes, 4 tests, homework. Homework is for test/quiz prep, because he doesn't collect it. He inputs grades via Canvas, and helps you calculate your grade. One of the better chem professors out there.
Although a new professor he is a natural. Very approachable/understanding. The workload isn't light due to the nature of the subject, the homework he assigns is VITAL to passing but he gives more than enough examples to learn and study from. Really enjoyed this class and felt like I actually learned a lot!
He was probably one of my favorite professors. Even though he is a fairly new professor, he clearly knows his information and genuinely wants you to pass. His class was not necessarily easy, which is due to the type of course, but he provides all you need to pass including a weekly extra credit assignment. I would highly recommend!
Chemistry is not an easy subject, but Dejan does a great job of helping make sense of everything. He does his best to make everything as clear and understandable as possible, all you have to do is put in the effort to study and practice. He also did a good job adapting to the transition online during the COVID issue. Great professor in my opinion.
Worst professor I have ever taken. His way of explaining things makes it more complicated than necessary and I basically lived off of YouTube videos. He won't offer extra credit and won't acknowledge that Chemistry is difficult therefore he should be slightly lenient. He's extremely rude when you ask a question and makes you feel stupid. Don't take
This professor is extremely condescending when you ask him question. His ego is and demeanor is entirely inappropriate. He gives the most ridiculous questions on exams. Personally I believe that he tries to fail students on purpose. Dosent care for students opinions. The class is not hard but due to his tricks you better watch out in the exams.
This teacher is mediocre at teaching, he is young and doesn't care about his students, he tries to separate the people who get A's from the rest. During his tests, he experiments with timing and wants people to fail. The final was an F average, the material in lectures is basically different from his tests, and acts as if he is doing us a favor. :(
You are going to be intimidated by his psychic energy and his vigor for the subject. However it takes both him and yourself to adjust to the niche of the class, but he will guaranteed give you the student the tools to do more than good. HIs meticulous nature and cohesisve lectures will make it so you can be confident enough to show up to class
Overall, chem is a difficult class. He tries his best to help you learn, especially with office hours and recommending SI sections. If you put in the effort, he will do his best to make you learn the material. I would say he is definetly a good And caring teacher.
A young but very intelligent professor. Honestly he doesn't really care, you either know the material or you don't. I struggled because of the heavy math + calculations involved but still passed. Lectures are heavy + a lot of notes! His billion quizzes + 4 exams + some of the lab literally made me want to cry. If anxiety was a class this is it.
Hes ok. He dissent really care and dismisses students. If he doesnt think your an A student he doesnt give you much help. Boring lectures. Lots of calculations.
Don't take him, he is awful
His sarcasm got really annoying. All semester he would say good luck and say how many students he failed the semester before. I felt on my own learning everything and there were quizzes every week. Dry lab was ok with him but test were very hard and I had to move quick to be able to answer every question. I was terrified to ask him anything.
I would NOT recommend this professor. I went from loving chemistry to hating it. He's condescending in the way he teaches & he rarely ever gets to the point. He runs around the topic as if there's never a solid answer. Put it this way, I'm an A student and this class was one of my most hated ones. Don't do itttttttt.
Avoid this professor. He enjoys making this class so difficult that he finds pleasure when only ONE person got a question correct on an exam. The exams are very unclear, to the point that even when classes went online the exam scores kept dropping (class average 50%) even though the internet was there for us to use. Terrible professor.
I would never want to take this class with this professor ever again. He enjoys making the class difficult while not providing the background knowledge to complete the class, and I came out of the class feeling very unconfident in my knowledge of chemistry. He does not make asking questions comfortable, and he isnt very interactive
Reading these reviews before the class I expected the worst. I got the complete opposite. The prof does what he can to get you to pass. He posts very good lectures on youtube, gives you optional HW with a key. Hosts daily review session where he goes over any question you want answered. Overall put in the work and you'll pass.
Those who can do, those who can't teach. The quote holds true for Dr. Stekovic, if he was capable of doing it, he would have, but for now, he teaches, and makes sure students feel the pain of his failures. Take ANY OTHER PROFESSOR YOU CAN
Never ask him a question. He will humiliate you for any question you ask. Don't do exam previews or how it will look like. He speaks faster than M&M, never got what he meant. asked for assignments that need tens of pages to fill.
This guy is trash. He is the most condescending person I have ever met in my life. He enjoys students doing bad on exams. He purposely uses questions to make you fail. He just wants to spread his negativity and failure through the class because he's miserable. He will smile if he sees people failing. Whatever you do don't take him
Hes so rude he made cry like 2 times. When i ask him questions he makes me feel dumb. What ever you do dont take him
Going to tell you right now. I would call myself an A student and i do not recommend taking him. Find another professor, he makes it extremely extremely hard to get an A and he likes seeing his students fail.
He's a good professor that expects you to learn by working hard. Some may complain about him and they have a reason too if they don't like his style. If you want an Easy A in this class than don't take him. But if you want to master Ochem so that in the future you are comfortable in saying you know the subject then take him.
By far the worst professor I've ever taken and probably the worst in all of MSJC. He THRIVES off students failing and brags about how many he's failed in previous semesters. He will make you feel stupid and embarrass you if you ask a question. Clearly is bitter about being a community college professor. I am an A student and got a C. DO NOT TAKE!
Prof Stekovic is a real gem. Hes made this online semester extremely manageable. Im excited to be taking him next semester for OChem as well. He covers everything in his lectures and the real time class sessions help out a lot. Thanks professor.
Pretentious, condescending, and completely hands-off. He has completely turned me off of chemistry. Pandemic made things tougher, but I never got the feeling he wanted us to be successful--quite the opposite. Does things HIS way, which only SOMETIMES agrees with the book. Learned nothing. What an absolute waste of time and money this class was.
Hes great. I really like the way he teaches online you should take him trust me.
Professor Stekovik was really not helpful at all. I took excessive notes in his lectures, did all the labs and assignments, gave SO much effort to the class and barely scraped by with a C. Says he'll curve exams but never does, and exams are ridiculously hard. I'd say only take him if chem comes easy to you, then you'll probably be fine.
Dejan is sarcastic so if ur sensitive then it wont be fun, but he was the best chem professor Ive had at MSJC. hes not the greatest prof ever, but I learned the most from him and he kept a good pace, we covered a lot of material and I actually felt competent in the subject even tho its online. After taking other profs which suck, hes the best
had him fall 2020; if the choice is against him or martinez CHOOSE STEKOVIC: he may be intimidating/come off mean but he's clear on what he wants & is organized. He makes OCHEM so easy to learn & makes it relatable & he focuses on whats important & NOT on the useless background stuff that wont be applied later on. He is understanding/flexible,
Dr.D is a rockstar i would definitely take him if you have the choice. If you are majoring in chemistry then without a doubt take him because you can get a lot of knowledge from him. Hes clear to the point and easy to talk to. he expects his students to try to better themselves at chem so if ur lazy he will no appreciate it.
Hes a pretty cool dude who cares a lot about teaching cant go wrong with him imo. If you put in the effort you will get an A in the class. If you dont put in the effort he can tell so just put in the effort. he can actually be very helpful during office hours. If I could I would take him for a 3rd semester in a row.
Dejan would refer Ochem as ONE GIANT PUZZLE, so get ready to UNDERSTAND, and APPLY but most importantly PRACTICE! because this is the only way you will pass the class. The lecture are okay, test are heavy and labs are HEAVY, he is a honest and hard grader. On test/hw, he doesn't give half credit. so don't expect a walk in the park.
Dejan is easily one of the best professors I've had in my 4 years at MSJC. The exams are fair as long as you do the work alongs and problem sets you'll be fine. This class is not easy though, it is organic chemistry so you still have to work but he's very willing and available to help. He's also always taking suggestions to keep improving.
DO NOT.. I REPEAT DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. HE IS ONE OF THE HARDEST CHEMISTRY TEACHERS AT MSJC. DOES NOT OFFER EXTRA CREDIT, EXAMS ARE EXTREMELY HARD AND IS NOT UNDERSTANDING WHEN IT COMES TO LABS. MY GRADE IS LITERALLY HANGING ON BY A THREAD TAKING THIS PROFESSOR. IF HES THE LAST PROFESSOR AT MSJC THAT IS OFFERING CHEM RUN AND FAST. WARNING
Great professor, has shown a lot of growth. Taken him for two semesters already, and I'm taking him for a third and final one. He can be blunt but he has the student's best interest in mind. The course is designed to keep you from falling behind and honestly it worked for me. It's a lot of work, but if you keep up you might just have fun.
I have taken Professor Stekovic two times and this is my third and final time with him. At first he may come off as intimidating but if you get to respect and know him, he is a really great professor. Although he is one of the tougher chem professors, he has taught me a lot about chemistry and has prepared me a ton for my upper division courses!
My experience with Professor Stekovic wasn't very pleasant. Considering that the course is extremely challenging, he didn't provide much assistance or guidance. Although I attended tutoring for three months, my struggle remained evident and rather than aiding me when I asked for his help, he'd give me arrogant remarks back or absolute silence. :/
Has recorded lectures posted to youtube for practically everything. The class isn't really that hard. If you just do the HW and study the practice exam you'll do fine on the exam. Make sure you stay on top of the assignments as there is no extra credit. He's willing to help you but only if you're trying, won't just give you the answer
Dr. Dejan is very kind and sympathetic. He cares about his students. This class is hard but don't worry because the teacher will help you. I had problems with the lab but always he helped me. At first, I thought I could not keep going, but each time he encouraged me, and I was getting hopeful. I recommend you this class but study hard. Good luck!
Dr. Dejan teaches with Accuracy, and will teach you to be independent like a Scientist. Very strict , and will enforce accuracy during lab. Has a sarcastic sense of humor - but in a good way only. I already took OCH I & II at USC - I felt this class was harder only because It was more math problems. Professor has office group chat hrs to help.
Although the class was tough I loved his class. His lecture notes are a series of (usually) short youtube videos. You are required to take notes, but it helped me since it sort of forced me to learn the material. He is very straightforward in his learning. His practice test are similar to the test, so that was helpful. Best chem teacher at MSJC
Professor Stekovic really cares about his students. You can definitely tell he wants you to succeed and pass his class. Personally, chemistry is something I have always struggled with and I am grateful to have passed this class with a caring professor. He is very knowledgeable and he always offers his assistance, not mention friendly and lenient.
He does not seem like her cares about us students. We are trying very hard, but he is coming across as condescending. He braggs how he has failed his students and feels good about it inside. Don't take him
Dr. Stekovic is coming across arrogant. He likes seeing his students feel since he is miserable. Please avoid him or you will be sorry. He makes his exams impossible for us to answer.
He is way too arrogant. He loves failing students. Beware........he grades really harsh. Run and find a new professor quick!
This professor is so boring. I feel like falling asleep in his class. There are plenty of other professors to take besides Stekovic. His teaching is really sloppy and messy.
Organic chemistry is a tough subject. It would be better to take another professor since Dr. Stekovic can get quite cranky at times and does not care to help.
I rather live with a rodent than take his class.
He grades too hard. I wish he would not teach chemistry at all.
Amazing professor and he really knows what he's doing. He's always there to lend a helping hand and he really wants his students to succeed. I've had him for 101 and 102 and both were tough, but the tools he provides are more than enough to pass the class. It's definitely hard material but if you're willing to put in the work, he'll be on your side
I might be getting a good grade in the class, but to be honest with you he does not know how to teach. He is very sloppy and does not know his material well enough. There are better professors out there.
He is absolutely no help at all.
It is getting close now for finals week. He does not make himself available. I feel sorry I signed up for his class.
It would be better if he explained the material more clearly.
He is not much of any help but loves to fail his students and gets a good pleasure out of it.
Chemistry is hard and I still can't understand Stekovic. He makes the class confusing, but he does his best to help when you ask him sometimes. Just be careful he is moody.
Find another professor since he cannot teach well.
Stay away from Dr. Stekovic. He makes the class way too hard.
it would be better if he took the time to teach and to know what we are supposed to be learning.
I can't recommend Dr. Stekovic. He has been grading way too harsh, and I find his teaching lacking enthusiasm.
I really liked Dejan, he was a good professor and his videos were straight to the point. He has a lot of homework but all of it made me feel better about the topics. I took both chem 101 and 102 with him. His labs in class are pretty easy and just make sure you do the calculations.
Very tough grader, get ready for labs. Doing labs online is much harder, so if you like taking online class and don't mind the labs, more power to you. He gives a lot of assignments per week,I was getting an A in his class until the last to labs he had for us to do, it was difficult. Get ready to do a lot of Math as well, it's very time consuming.
Don't be mislead by the other bad reviews. While Dejan is indeed a very tough grader, he has the student's best interest in mind, and wants us to succeed. Ochem is a hard course, so don't take the class and expect a walk in the park. As long as you study diligently, and follow the guidelines for the lab, you will do well in his class
Dejan is an okay professor. However I recommend avoiding him if possible because he grades very hard, and can have some attitude when you ask for help. I took him because the only other ochem professor, Martinez, is even worse, so I had no choice. Just make sure you REALLY study and work hard because you won't pass the class if you don't. Good luck
Gen Chem is extensive and difficult to comprehend in it of itself. It's not the professor's fault. Lectures are straight to the point and homework is very routine. LOTS of weekly assignments but I wouldn't have understood a thing without them. Take the time to do extra practice, visit his office hours, and succeeding in his class is very doable.
He does not seem like he cares about students learning the material. He is also moody.
I honestly was nervous to take this class since of the reviews but honestly the class turned out better than I thought. Stekovic does give a lot of work to do but if you pace yourself it isn't as bad. He does offer a lot of help or tutoring options. My only advice is to make sure to stay on top of your work since the class does go by very fast.
This professor does not care about his students. Do not take him. Every time I asked for help, he would always say "Did you look at your notes, if you did you would know." I looked at the notes and the notes he gave never made sense. DO NOT TAKE HIM. AVOID ANYWAY YOU CAN. That professor destroyed my mental health. He wants students to FAIL.
Terrible professor
Remember: - No textbook required - Take detailed notes from his YouTube channel. - Compile notes into one PDF file before submitting. - Expect lots of homework and quizzes. - Check for canceled office hours. - Consider getting a tutor. - Plan for 2-4 hours of study daily. *I did not enjoy his class *****I don't recommend this professor.
Ignore the bad ratings. This professor is literally the best and made everything clear and easy to understand. He makes it easy to get extra help and provides more than enough resources to be successful. It's just that you have to put the work in and not procrastinate.
Don't ignore the bad ratings. stekovic only helps who he likes to help but man this guy has a bad temper. stay away from him.
I have to agree with the comment below. he is worst than a dog. it makes sense the first letter of his name is a D which also stands for dog
He gets upset if you don't know the answer. He made me cry in class.
He replies pretty fast, all lectures are on YouTube and you have to take detailed notes. The discussion section was easy his test were the hardest part. Notes are really simple which doesn't prepare you for the test and sometimes the test didn't match the notes. I thought he was nice but his class is hard.
He was really good at walking you through problems and his lectures are really clear. If you need help go to his office hours. Responds quick to emails. My favorite teacher at MSJC.
I thought he was a pretty good professor but his class is only hard if you don't study enough. You do a lot of notes and he give you study guides for exams. He responded to emails quickly and was also understanding. Overall, he's a chill professor. Just make sure you listen to him and don't be late to class.
Took him a while ago for ochem 1, the subject is not easy, but he wants to help as much as possible. I would do study groups with classmates and he would join to help us out. We all did great and I recommend using his office hours. Taking his class made ochem 2 a lot easier for me.
It makes me so sad that people are saying he's a bad professor. He was amazing I had him for every chem class I took at MSJC because his lectures and help outside of class are great. If you need the help he is always willing to sit down and work out problems with you! He grades heavy but don't slack off and you will be fine!
Dejan Stekovic is a prime example of people who should not be teaching. He has a massive ego, has significant anger problems, and is exceptionally unprofessional. He is the first to admit that the chemistry department will never be perfect at MSJC, and he is part of it. The same can be said about his friend, Ekanayake. He needs to be fired.
I have to agree with the comment below. He can't do things right the first time around.
Dejan was my professor for two years, and he taught the material extremely well. Chemistry is a difficult subject as it is, however, he was more than willing to help. With chemistry, you need to actively participate in your studying to do well, but he will undoubtedly help you to understand the material, not just memorize it. Go to office hours.
Very responsive and has open office hours. He has a lot of homework but that is just chem! You need a lot of practice to get good at some of the practices but he was way amazing compared to Firtha. She sucks.
Lazy professor unwilling to do his job. The class is easy, though professor is unwilling to accommodate for you if it is inconvenient for him. You should have no problem getting an A as long as you do your work but I'd suggest avoiding family emergencies (as if that's in your control) as the professor will be unwilling to work with you to catch up.
I took Professor Stekovic's class for ochem 1 and 2. While the class is of course difficult, I felt he provided all the necessary resources to succeed. The class is really what you make of it, so be prepared to put in a significant amount of work. Make sure you attend office hours, do all the optional assignments, and don't fall behind.
I found him too hard. I would not recommend him to my worst enemy.
If you want to pass this course with a good or a decent grade, please take notes, ASK QUESTIONS BEFORE, DURING, & AFTER CLASS (attend office hours as well!!). Stay on top of assignments DO NOT turn in work late. Homework, exams, and labs/lab report are worth a lot of points!! If you feel embarrassed, upset, lost, etc. STILL ASK QUESTIONS !!! STUDY!
I had to drop which is rare. Odds are stacked against you. I do not recommend.
Not sure why he's rated so low. I guess people who lack accountability took it out on him. Every recorded lecture correlates with the workalongs he provides and the homework quizzes. His course in Canvas isn't over done like ALOT of teachers who litter Canvas with irrelevant nonsense. Straight forward and would definitely take his other Chem course
He does not seem like he likes his job anymore. He expects you to know everything. I would never go back to m him again.
The rating made me nervous but could not be more pleasantly surprised and I would fully recommend taking this professor. The lectures are clear, there are work alongs that relate to the HW checks and the assessments, studying is not difficult because of this. The labs are not difficult and he is approachable and answers questions, and is helpful.
During lab he is always walking around the room and helping people, you just have to ask. Never rude. Always ready to review content with you & explain where you might've done something wrong. Easy to reach online and responds fast. You need to self-study because he will not hand free A's to you on a silver platter even if that's what people want.
