Arrogant, everyone seems "beneath" him. Book can teach you as well as he can

Took this class online.Teacher is useless.Plan on teaching yourself.Tried email, but finally gave up on help.His English is not the greatest.When he finally did help it was after homework was due.Book somewhat useful.Some of the homework assignments ask for tasks that have not been covered in the book.Had to hire a tutor to get through the class.

He can't speak English so don't think about asking for help. You will get a response that is so grammatically incorrect not only will it make you want to rip your hair out but you will have no answers to your questions, so unless you already know excel, don't take this class cause you won't be able to get help.

This professor is horrible!!! His communication skills are almost non existent. He takes forever to grade and is very critical. The instruction is very confusing. His PowerPoint's hardly match the homework assignments. I have gotten straight A's up until this class. I do not mind hard work but this class is ridiculous. Avoid him if you can.

This was a required course for me. The content is easy the grader is the issue. He gives 10 assignments worth 10 points each and that's it. Seems easy but even when the directions are followed to the letter you can still receive a 410 or even a 0. Unfortunately there are only 2 profs for this class. So for ppl who cant take it in class, good luck.

Never answered my questions. Wants you to follow instructions to the letter but wording can be quite unclear. Took it online. Maybe in class would be better but avoid unless you already understand Microsoft Access.

So hard and the worst at getting back to you. He never answers my questions. He also wants you to follow incomplete instructions. The wording of these are never understood by the class or myself. TAKE SOMEONE ELSE!

Took the teacher online. I understand excell quite well, however, he is a tough grader on unclear instructions. Also, wanna communicate with him? Expect a wise guy answer. He is very sassy with what he has to say, and how he grades you.

This professor is absolutely terrible. Besides being one of the most difficult graders I've ever had, he basically refuses to teach or be of help in any way. He takes off 20% of your grade for small mistakes on homework and won't even be kind enough to review your work so, you can do better. When you do get a response it's snarky and mean.

I would not recommend this teacher at all. Being a former teacher myself, I can tell you he is terrible. Took it online and you are expected to teach yourself from the textbook & he gives zero feedback good or bad. Grades are harsh and make little sense even for minor errors. Very rude and disrespectful to students when asking questions.

Don't put yourself through this guys class, online or not. Very rude and snarky and will not go through the effort at all, just references you back to the text book. Doesn't email back, replies with very short messages (barely speaks proper English btw), and does not give feedback. I definitely didn't learn anything. Would never take him again.

Definitely wouldn't take him again. He barely speaks English, doesn't teach you ANYTHING (just tells you to look back at the book), and never replies to your emails. And for some reason he always has an attitude we he replies or grades your stuff. I almost didn't pass because of his poor teaching and lack of helping anyone understand anything.

Unfair when grading, took data analysis online and followed directions to a T and even had other people go over it with me afterwards who are extremely proficient in Excel and use it everyday and they said it was all right. I was given a 10/50 and was forced to drop the class. DO NOT TAKE if there are any other teacher options go with them.

DON'T TAKE HIS CLASS. Find a different professor. I'm an A student, did every assignment, spent hours, and I got a C in this class. Just don't. Doesn't care about the students.

Took database application. Very dated material with MS Access only. Confusing assignment criteria and unapproachable when asking questions. Spend hours on an assignment just to get 10/100 because of some minimal reasons. Class is boring and tedious. I didn't really learn anything that I found to be useful. If you want to learn access teach yourself

Horrible. Online course self guided - no videos or tips. With the schools closed this term, I didn't have access to compute labs and had to fight all semester over add-ons that wouldn't work with my computer. I saved the email he sent saying he didn't know for 1 1/2 months the school was closed! Duh - that says it all. Very condescending.

This guy is absolute nightmare. He is extremely condescending and can't give you a straight answer. He doesn't give a great amount of clarity and is a harsh grader. Avoid taking any classes with him at all costs. He has easily made my day worse on multiple occasions. Wish I would have looked at some of these reviews before wasting my money.

Hell only answer your questions if you do the example file. Some of the directions in the case file dont make sense. I have to spend hours googling how to do something since the book examples dont help.

He grades super hard on HW. He allows you to revised HW when submitted on time. He doesnt give you any pointers on how to fix it. All he tells you is that it is wrong. You cannot asked him any questions or ask for help unless you do the practice HW that is not worth points. Even if you do the HW he doesnt answer your questions. He is horrible

He is super hard on grading. If you turn things in on time you can revise, but he barely tells you what you did wrong and gets offended when you ask for clarification. Help is non-existent. Only take him if you are a genius or a mind reader. Makes you buy a book he wrote that is outdated, so you must use external resources anyway. DO NOT TAKE HIM!

This dude is the biggest L, super disrespectful in emails, and condescending as hell when youre asking simple confirmation questions. If I had the chance, dont bother dealing with this guy.

I took this class to gain personal knowledge in Microsoft Office and pursue a cert later on. I'm currently enrolled in this class and will most likely take my MOS cert and drop the class... It's entirely independent, disrespectful replies, no help whatsoever when you are struggling. Do not take his class, if you have to, I wish you luck...

Grades are based on projects. All the modules in the book are used. Each section of module must be perfect or you lose points. Not graded on work you did correctly but, even a little mistake in one section, that whole section is WRONG! Lectures video class are wrong and boring! DON'T take this CLASS! Take it in another school!

There are 12 modules that you have to do, a final project and take a MOS test. If you dont get a 700 on the MOS the highest grade you can receive is a B. Liu is a very harsh grader for every mistake 10 points is taking off. He also makes you buy two books, one that he wrote. The one that he wrote you will only use twice, and it cost $60.

This is the worst Professor I ever had. Refuses assistance, is disrespectful, and does not provide you with any course help whatsoever. I am an honor roll, all As student and this is the first time I have received a low grade in a class. I do not understand how the school can still employ someone like that. He WANTS you to fail.

He doesn't like teaching or students. He dismissed my every attempt at trying to get help from him. He wouldn't show us how to solve the last assignment that nobody knew how to do because he didn't teach us anything in class. He said that's bc he is worried about sharing answers with future students. It's hard to learn anything from him. AVOID

Please do not take this class. This guy is just here to make money from selling his stupid book. He changes an (just one) exercise problem every semester in his book so if you bought it the previous semester, you gotta buy it again. On top of that, he is rude, totally unwilling to help if you have questions. Please report him!

I haven't completed the course yet and felt like I needed to write a review before anyone gets stuck in his class. He is not empathetic in the slightest. He'll bury the assignment links in the blackboard and if you email him with anything attached, he'll disregard it. His assignments surround his book, meaning you MUST get it which is so bogus.

This professor tries to teach but he is really hard to understand. His syllabus is a bit confusing, he only has a midterm, two main assignment and a hard project, but a bad grade in one of them can easily cost you an 'A' or a 'B'. The main problems I fasted with this professor is understanding him due to his strong accent and his messy syllabus.

Most the comments are spot on about this guy selling his book and being generally unhelpful with zero leniency, so there's not much else to say, avoid this one for sure, hands down one of the worst professors I've had in terms of communication and overall helpfullness.

Avoid this guy, sells his own book which is an overpriced 200 page pdf that's just harder to understand than the Access book you also need.

A void this professor at all costs. I've NEVER received under a B in a computer course until I took his. I read the entire book and took notes on everything and did every assignment, and still got an F. Makes class way harder than it should be by never helping when you have a question and forcing you to do problems from his outdated book.

He talks to you in a condescending tone when you asked for help and to explain what did you do wrong so you can learn from your own mistakes. No feedback he gives helps you learn from what you did wrong. Is a teacher not there to help you? Help you troubleshoot? Help you understand your mistakes? Cause if you knew you wouldn't be asking for help

I guess this professor is good in other courses, but not in the one I was in. This class is just a class to sell his very disorganized and expensive book. You don't even use the book often; it barely helps. He doesn't have many assignments, but is a super hard grader and you get barely any feedback. If you get anxiety often, this isn't for you.

The midterm was supposed to prepare us for the MOS-certification test, and it did the opposite. It was poorly written, not even reviewed for grammatical errors, and was technologically different than the MOS exam. Be wary, he is a strict grader, but if you revise your assignments, he will give you more credit. Just avoid this professor.

Stay away. Absolute worst professor ever. Does not help his students at all. Replies very rudely to emails and never answers the question. I got more help from other students in the class than I did from him. Very strict grader and does not give good feedback. Do not take this professor he will ruin your semester.

This is the worst professor I ever had, as it is also the first class I have ever failed. Professor Liu is very cryptic with his responses and does not show interest in helping students. He does not provide good help and he talks with a connotative tone when you try to receive help. I ultimately failed due to his lack of help. WOULD NOT RECOMEND!!!

He is very condescending, I asked him for helped and his reply was if I pay attention to his class. He never wants to help you. He tells me that its my fault for making every mistake because I'm the designer.

Professor Liu is a very tough grader and does not give appropriate feedback to his students on assignments, instead he provides feedback telling you you're wrong and given excel is a multifunctional tool with many different issues that can arise that could be worked out with students, instead Professor Liu tells you you're wrong and argues with u.

The teacher does not teach/show you how to do the homework, he assumes you would "eventually figure it out". If you email him about a question on revisions/homework he will NOT direct you in any way and will respond in a rude way. I would not recommend this course but C.S majors have to take it and he is the only teacher so good luck!

Professor Liu's teaching approach leaves much to be desired. Rather than providing clear explanations or guidance in computer science topics, he often makes you feel discouraged and unsupported. It's disappointing that there aren't more supportive and effective professor options available at the College of DuPage.

He should not be teaching. If you ask anything in general, he tells you that you are wrong for not doing it at all. He thinks I am wasting his time for clarity!!! He falsely accuses me of not doing the homework properly and threatens/intimidates me for giving me a location of the text where the answer should be discussed.

He is extremely hands off with his course. The course topics itself are rather straight forward however he is difficult to work with as a professor he has the habit of responding to questions very rudely without giving any actual guidance typically responding to an any questions with "did you read syllabus/book?" rather then explain the topic.

Any questions about the topics he is teaching will typically be respond with poorly written emails asking "Did you read the book?" in short Liu is a very antagonistic professor and you should avoid taking his classes due to his reliance on his book to teach you the everything about the entire course.

would not recommend taking this class. The professor is often unresponsive and does not provide helpful replies when students reach out for support. In my experience, the responses were dismissive and sometimes rude

I took Professor Liu for online CIS 1221 in Spring 2025. He is one of those professors who just assigns you a set of chapters from the textbook and then you complete projects created by the publisher. He did not provide any lecture recordings nor outlines. Don't understand why students pay tuition if they just learn primarily from the text book.
