Good prof; likes what he's teaching which makes the course all the more enjoyable. Business cases are useful as you really learn to apply the course material to a realistic business situation. Tends to fly through the powerpoint, which in my opinion is a good thing. Here's a hot pepper for teaching so well, Deland.

Strongly recommend taking any classes he teaches! If you are one to participate in class you will do very well! He teaches everything off PP slides, and reading the text is not even essential because of this. Take as many classes from him as possible, you will get a lot out of them!!

I would take classes w/ him again, he's an interesting prof. His midterms are straightforward, he tells you ahead what you should study for. Lectures are off the powerpoint, you don't need to take notes because everything is on there. Should attend class b/c he always gives cases that he collects for marks. He's an easy marker except for projects.

Great Teacher! Highly recommend taking his class. Very fair marker with projects and exams. He basically tells you the material for the exams so the textbook isn't needed. All material is on the class slides. Oh, and did I mention he's HOT?

Pretty good teacher overall. He is new however and sometimes makes mistakes. I would recommend taking his classes because his cases make you think more than just reading the textbook

He is a great prof! always ready to help students with the course as well us other questions related to transfer etc. He is an easy teacher but he makes his students work hard for the grade. He is fair and tells you whats on the midterm. Textbook is not that necessary his slides are enough.

I have had Deland for Marketing, Entrepreneurship and Business Presentation Skills. He is by far the best prof i have had. His teaching style is unique and provides cases almost every class. Be sure to attend class and participate in class discussions and you'll get along with him just fine. He is extremely knowledgable.

Very good professor. As an ESL speaker, I become much more confident speaking in front of the class. He told students what are their weakness, and suggested how to improve it. I highly recommend every student (whether you are in business or not) to take his entrepreneurship class. He teaches you how to be smart with your money and gives you real-life experiences with how to start a business. Lectures go by quickly with interesting case studies and non-monotone power point slides. Exams are more than fair.

Deland is one of my favourite professors at Langara. Although BUSM 1500 tends to bring out the anxiety in everyone, he tries to be as encouraging and positive as possible. Is it an easy A? Yes and no. The course is VERY simple if you really think about it, but effort is definitely required. Just trying will earn you a decent grade.

BEST professor ever!!!! Choose him with no doubts!!! His lectures are amazing, he is inspiring, makes all the improptus (improvised speeches) so fun. Show up to all of his classes, show up for your speeches and you'll pass. However, it is quite difficult to get above 85% in this class. He gives great feedback, super super helpful on getting to better prepped for doing presentation

He is very good at bringing out the best. Speaking in front of the audience is the most difficult job. Hats off to this prof who is very relaxed and gives enough room to the speaker so that the tensions around can be eased.

A very pragmatic course. Deland not only teaches you business, but also the mindset to succeed in it (and life in general). His classes are direct and there is rarely a dull moment. The key to a good grade is to never get too attached to your successes or failures! Learn, grow, and move on. Good partners for the group project is essential.

Deland is great, but he's not perfect. He used to be a cop (you can tell) and he looks like a poor man's adam sandler but it would be hard to top him as a teacher. I'm sure better teachers exist, but let's not be too greedy. We have Deland.

THE BEST PROF IVE EVER HAD IN LANGARA! If you ever had a chance, take him as your prof! I learned a lot from him about presenting. He does this impromptu presentations which really helps a lot with experience in presenting but also develops relationship with your classmates and makes it more comfortable to present in front of them. Be prepared to speak or do some form of a speech almost every class; I get extremely nervous with public speaking but this prof is great at building confidence, and gives great constructive feedback while also emphasizing your positives. Wouldnt call it an easy A but definitely achievable if you try.

Deland is a wacky dude and brings a lot of energy to the classroom. Every lecture is a sales pitch but in a good way. He cares a lot. Make sure you have good group mates for the simulation assignment because you'll work with them for most of term. I was lucky and really enjoyed the group project. Open book midterm and final plus one book report.

Overall, he is a really good professor. You just have to put very little effort in order to get B+ but for A, you have to show up perfectly in the class.

Super considerate, always calm, and always wanting to hear feedback from students. He actually listens to students' feedback asking what he can do to make the course better. NEVER in my life had any prof ask that.

Deland is a great teacher. He really cares about his class and that they learn and do well. I took the condensed online course and he gave us his cellphone number to reach him outside of class. He's quite funny and very passionate about helping students start their own business! Always asks for feedback on lectures and how he can improve as well.

He is really friendly in the class and good at teaching and giving feedback. His way of teaching is perfect and don't force students to attend the whole class instead we just need to attend the class for 30 mints in which will represent out presentations.

I didn't enjoy Deland but I won't sabotage his ratemyprof rating for it. If you recieved your grade back from him and it wasn't what you expected don't worry, I expected my grade to be higher too. The problem with entrepreneurship is that it's such a loose course with no clear grading criteria. Wouldn't take him again personally.

My only gripe would be that the group project marking criteria is not clear, but it is easy enough to figure out on your own. He has midterm and finals reviews which are helpful, and allows cheat sheets for exams. His classes are engaging and rarely boring.

You can tell he really cared about us as a student and as a person, his classes focus mainly on doing real work that help us gain real life experience and the actual materials he just goes through really fast at the end of the lecture.
