very nice teacher! i'd take her again!
This professor is worthless! I have only been dancing for 6 years but this was a complete waste of time, even for a beginner. I recommend another professor
(DAA1100 & DAN2130) DAA1100: she was extremely rude and criticized the students, not to mention we didn't learn a thing. DAN2130: we had to attend four professional performances($$), a paper for each one (2,2pgs & 2,1pg single spaced), 4 tests, which she grades EXTREMELY harshly and does not prepare you for, 2 page book report, & ungraded projects.
HORRIBLE TEACHER! I wish I would have been warned prior to taking her class. She is RUDE and nasty with her student, non approachable, There are many useless assignments you never get a grade for, MANY papers,Her grading scale is terrible (F=65-, D=66-76, C=75-85, B=86-93, A=94-100)I got an 91% on a test & got a C...just HORRIBLE. YOU ARE WARNED!
This professor is not good at all and if you take this class with her I;m sure you are going to be sorry for what you did. She tried to be funny but she is not and the way she grades student's works is not the best.
Grades on a harsh scale (a 94% = B) boring, but keeps you til THE LAST minute of class. approachable, but not fun to be around. don't take her class. dance is my world, but that teacher sucked.
if u dnt lik writing or its not ur forte, thn hell this aint ur class! shes good but she makes u write lik crazy w. critiques, & book reports, n it has to b single-spaced. AND reduces points for E-V-E-R-Y mistake in ur essays, like commas, fragments, stuff lik dat. does nottt give study guides for tsts so make sure u take notess on eveythingggggg!!
lets u rewrite ur paper if you didnt get an A. make sure u take notes on every video, write down the choreographer & name of dance videos she shows in class she will surprise u on the test. no study guide! make sure your not late and go to every class. i got an A but thats because i did every assignment a rewrote all my papers. goodluck!
I took Dance History for my first semester in college with prof Iles, & i will not recommend this class to anyone. Do not come late to her class. You will have to see 4 performances. You will have to do lots of writing. If you are not a good writer, dont take the class. You need to bring the book everyday.
Everytime i go to this class i think about how pointless it is and how i really should'nt have to be doing all this writing and studying. 3 tests, 3 papers (2,500 words total)on performances u have to pay for, and pop quizzes. easy tests if you study. shes always late but you cant be -_-
overall easy going atmosphere. the only time you'll stress is when you have to write your cirtiques on dance performances you saw. pay attention to the vidoes, don't fall asleep in class, and read the assigned sections. p.s. you watch a lot of videos so write down the dance and choreographer, will be on exams, but they're not diffucult
As a dancer with little to no background, Professor Iles did provide great assistance and helped me a lot in finding out my true turn out and everything I am now able to do. Class may be a bit slow at times, but its worth every minute. I would definitely recommend Professor Iles. EXCELLENT instructor. She assisted me in being accepted to NWSA :)
Do not bother buying the book at all........ All she speaks & refers to is to DANCE DANCE DANCE, nothing with humanities. Expects you to write 3 (1,000 word) critiques & attending dance shows that makes us go out of our work and normal school schedules. I think I have learned more about her and her dance life more than I have about Humanities.
Just don't. Spare yourselves. Take her Ballet and Jazz classes but not her appreciation class or you'll regret living. Unless you are a dance major, then go to a different campus.
Do not take her for HUM1020. All she really talks about is DANCE. You would have to do a lot of critics on performances you have to pay for. Some are $10-$30 . She goes over things 1 time and just not a good professor. Maybe a good dance teacher but other wise NO.
This teacher is clear but unapproachable. She makes her students feel inferior and would not recommend anyone to take her class. She is very rude and not friendly.
she makes you work
She's extremely boring and a tough grader. All of her tests are fill in the blanks, no multiple choice questions. I wouldn't recommend taking her class.
DO NOT TAKE HER IF YOU WANT TO PASS THIS CLASS. She will do everything for you not get an A. She is totally into arts so be ready to miss work to go and watch Ballets, Operas, Galleries etc. on your won expenses.
She is great .. If you're lazy you won't like her .. She is clear and knows what she is doing.. But you have to write a lot of papers
She makes you write a total of 5 papers, all of which you must attend a live performance, must show proof of ticket & pay out of pocket. there's also a 5 min. presentation. Did I mention her tests are not multiple choice! & she doesn't help reviewing for finals. if u enter class 1 sec. after attendance ur still marked late!
She is a touch grader!
Great teacher.. Passionate about what she is doing
Don't take this class. She requires you to spend money on plays and musicals and if you don't pay and go you won't pass. What I heard from my other professor that it's against policy to have students spend money on required assignments. Just saying.
There's about 5 essays 2 500 words and 3 1000 words on performances you must go see a pop quiz midterm and final with one presentation I did everything but failed the test so I got a D. she's ok but this is a class you must apply yourself and on all of the test there is not one multiple choice. She doesn't even give extra credit.
She is a tough grader, but knows the subject well and does want you to learn. Would take her class again.
Great teacher if you're not lazy. Only issue is that you'll write a lot .. Fair teacher
Worst teacher I have ever had. Most of what she says in class is not true, but she believes she knows it all and hates to be corrected. You are expected to go to proffessional performances and pay for them yourself, after which you have to write 1000 words long papers. Super rude to her students and expects nothing but respect towards her.
Worst teacher I have ever had. Most of what she says in class is not true, but she believes she knows it all and hates to be corrected. Super rude to her students and expects nothing but respect towards her.
This professor was one of the most horrible teachers in Miami Dade College. She assumes that you will be into the art of Dance but its all she speaks about. One thing, DO NOT SAY STOMP because if you say the word you will lose a letter grade. According to her its a slang word for STAMP and she does not like it which is childish on her part.
I didn't like that it was practically a history class, lots of MEMORIZING! What really made me dislike this class was just HER in general. She talks to her students like they're idiots. She teaches like she's teaching a middle school class. Second worst teacher I've ever had (elementary included). I would've chosen a different teacher if I'd known
Man this professor was terrible. She is the worst professor in MDC. I would never take class with her anymore.
You can have fun in her class learning about dance or visiting theaters but she is not a good teacher. She is very rude to students teaching them good manners in wrongs ways. She also teaches what is convenient for her and some aspects are from elementary school. She thinks she know a lot about arts but that is not true. Overall, her class is easy
tough grader, very bias and rude the class received noting high than a C or lower BEWARE
very bad
I've been dancing for a while now. This is so far the most dumbed down dance class I've ever taken. She CAN BE (not always)very rude. She sometimes won't even show up. But be warned if you skip a class she won't let you forget it. Her stretches aren't good at all. A lot of people suffer minor injuries from improper stretching.
This professor is plain bored. Her life is all about making her students suffer.
One of the poorest professors I have ever suffered through a semester with. Not qualified to teach a Humanities course. Taught and tested false facts. "Curriculum" whatever was convenient to her on a given day. Stopped class often to correct students' manners, or tell students w/ accents to "try harder" to lose their accents. Rude & pretentious.
I worked so hard for a B. She could be rude at times. I took her class during the Summer and we had a critique essay due every week. Three 1000 word essays and 3 500 words. She does not give you a study guide but you must take down notes that she writes on the board for the midterm and final.
This proffessor shouldn't been teaching in MDC. She enjoys to humillate students and her way of teaching is innapropriate. She talks about non been rude but she's the rudest. I worked so hard to get an A and I got a B just because she made it harder for me. No matter what you do, she's never is conformed. Don't take her class. We need to stop her.
Took this professor's course earlier this year and passed, but that's not enough for me to write a negative review. She's made my life miserable due to her inappropriate behavior, which I believe every single student who has rated her on this platform. Iles should be reported to the Dean for her tactics in making her students feel miserable.
worst professor ever
Worst teacher in the MDC.
The Professor is definitely lecture heavy and if you aren't interested in the topics they may seem boring, but I think thats just the nature of the class. She often snaps at students for simple things. She gives a fair amount of papers and is harsh on them but does give tons of feedback with the chance to resubmit the papers.
Terrible, qualified to teach humanities, not qualified to grade papers. She likes what she likes and she dislikes what she dislikes, Very bias, very unreasonable, very annoying, don't take this class unless its the last option because I got an A but everything I had to do to get an A was very unnecessary.
Ex-ballerina Professor Delma Iles is a tough cookie, I took her Summer 2017. You DEFINITELY have to be attentive to everything she says and need to read at home from the textbook. Although she is strict and even sometimes rude, it is evident that she is both knowledgeable and experienced. Be prepared to have to roam around the city for projects.
Terrible Professor
Worst professor DONT TAKE HER CLASS
This professor is very rude
This woman does the MOST, if you dont leave a ' college level answer' on your paper, even if you put the correct answer she marks it WRONG. She's the worst do not take her smh, even if you put your all into a paper and etc she will still grade it as she pleases. USE GRAMMARLY AND GO TO THE WRITING LAB.
Very particular. Can come off as grouchy. Truly never please with anything. As long as you show up, pay attention, take notes, and stay quiet you should be fine.
you have to study if not you won't pass the class very particular about how she teaches the class because she has a lot of knowledge about it don't be disrespectful in the class just show up tp the class take notes test are easy if you study and do the work.
Annoying & Rude. Dont take this class you will want to dieeeee
Do not take this course! Be aware, youve been warned
The worst professor at MDC. Highest drop out rating any professor has.
Im not sure why she is a teacher, she seems to enjoy being a bully. I have never been moved to write about any professor like this but shes really uncooperative with students and even in the midst of a global crisis, unnecessarily strict. Her behavior was mean and petty. Dont take her
Do not take her trust me, she is the rudest professor. She was so terrible that this the first time I wrote a review. Her work isn't hard, she asks for alot for something so simple. If you take her good luck in hell.
Why is she even a teacher?? If I knew she was that bad I would've never taken her. She is so rude and doesn't consider hard work. If you have an issue uploading papers on Blackboard, she won't cooperate and will give you a 0. I actually love humanities but I hated this class, she is the worst teacher at MDC. Do NOT take her, you will regret it.
HATE HER! Rudest professor ever. We has to transition to online classes (coronavirus) and she was SO UNCOOPERATIVE. Trust me, do not take her class. Complete waste of my time, did not learn anything and she was just mean and a bully during the whole semester.
She gives a good amount of work. Shes a very tough grader. Doesnt work with new students properly. If youre taking her as your first ever college class, good luck. Emails back quickly, answers any questions. DOESNT care about your grades.
First things first, I got dropped of this class for no reason. "System error" she said. Got back into class 3 weeks after the error. Had to do all that work in 1 week. She is not even giving a class, just assignments and expects you to write with a high level of understanding of the subject. How? I don't know, as I said she doesn't even teach you.
Professor Iles seems like a nice person although she is not the best professor. In the middle of the pandemic, our class was assigned a generous amount of work. If you procrastinate it will be very stressful. The assignments also took a long time to do and not much was learned throughout the course. I wouldn't highly recommend.
I dont recommend taking this class if you are a dual enrollment student . Very long assignments. She did not do any online classes so you basically had to learn everything on your own, concluding that you had to read a lot. It had its pros but if you arent the type to learn easily without a lecture on it , I dont recommend.
Overall, Professor Iles wasn't too bad. She answers emails very quickly and isn't rude. She gives second chances on papers only. There's no lectures or teaching you have to learn everything on your own. I honestly didn't learn anything and I was just trying to pass and finish the class. I would not recommend this class to anyone. You NEED textbook.
This professor was absolutely horrible. During lectures would daydream about random stories of her life that no one gives a f!!! about. This professor makes sure you know about insignificant details that will be of no use to you in the exams, in your homework, much less your life. This professor was the biggest waste of my time, save yourself ong
During the pandemic live lessons were not given. If you do not understand easily she will state to read the rules again. Don't procrastinate because the work takes time to do and with procrastination you will be cutting it close to the due dates and time. Make sure you keep up with your grades she may make mistakes. Class not Recommended.
Currently taking it now, she graded my papers poorly. The book teaches you, not her. I had scheduled early for my midterms exam through the phone. On the day of it, She yelled at me over the phone for disrupting when she didn't organize the time slots, & post her phone number out there. And never sent a schedule change to me as an access student.
Our Midterm was done orally, via phone call, but this wasn't really much of a problem as long as you know what ur doing. Our Final isn't an actual test, she made us make a timeline of events that occurred in history. She assigns textbook chapter reviews, mini assignments that are medium length, &about 3 Essays, BUT SHE CANT GET HER DUE DATES RIGHT.
The work is very specific to her criteria. She's answers efficiently to any emailed questions you may have within her school hours but expects full effort on your part with tedious criteria. Tough grader on 25-50 questionnaires on chapter reading, 3 essays & assignments on ancient society throughout the course. Pretty tough for me to stay ahead.
I learned a lot by the way. I think this is one of those classes that really challenge you in a positive was
She is a tough grader and will send you to a tutor if she sees that you need help with your writing. She gives a lot of assignments and the midterm was through the phone.
Unfortunately, I cannot fit the amount of distaste I have for this professor. She is a very old out of touch person who speaks primarily through emails (fun). She won't let you redo a single assignment so you better hope it's perfect. Not to mention how insultingly lazy she is. She accused me of plagiarism on an essay with 0% similarity beware.
Useless to say the least. Has no idea how to teach what so ever. Rude, and grades everything hard. Says she teaches philosophy but gives assignments like watching 3 hour long ballets. Please waste your money on something more useful than to take her for anything
Very rude and doesnt let you redo assignments. Grading strict and its nearly impossible to have an A. She doesnt give much feedback on essays or she gives you the same grade as the original essay for not going to the writing lab. Doesnt try to help you and gives useless work. In my hardest classes I had better grades in then in this class.
Very stressful class, but I learn a lot about humanities and ancient Greek and civilizations.
The teacher is horrible at grading and does not respect students at all. Never explains assignments clearly so you have to figure it out yourself. She is a horrible grader and when you try to ask why she is very disrespectful.
She is a good prof and very organized BUT she does get an attitude when you ask her a question and she is very picky. Nothing really satisfies her and she grades papers very thoroughly. You will only take the midterm exam and final (unless you have an A in the class by Dec 6th, you will be exempt)
Beware Of this professor! She is VERY rude and sometimes has an attitude. She is a VERY tough grader and doesn't work well with students. She is very informational, very passionate about what she teaches, and knows her stuff. Although, Gives a lot assignments to complete. Take this class with this professor at your own risk! I don't recommend her.
Unless you want to devote all of your time to this class, do not take it. Not only is the Professor super rude, but she is the toughest grader I’ve ever had in my life. Goodluck to anyone who takes her class. She is the type of professor that likes to see her students fail and struggle.
Good professor! she is very passionate about what she teaches and knows a lot about the arts. However, she is a tough grader and you will have to work hard if you want to pass her class. We only had to write three essays, an art analysis, complete an oral report, midterm exam, and a final (which you don't have to take if you have an A average)
not recommended
IF YOU CAN AVOID HER AVOID HER AT ALL COST
Do not take this class with her!
Professor Iles likes to make snarky comments if you ask her anything and change the rubric after submitting your work. In one class I emailed her about my paper and asked if she had any comments and she ranted about my email the whole class period. Don't take her class!!
She makes things unnecessarily more difficult than they should when it comes to assignment submission. She has made a comment about me getting deported due to me being an international student. We would watch videos, and she would speak about the topics overall but she seemed to get frustrated if you asked her a question for confirmation.
If you could pick another professor, DO IT.
I had her during the summer and I hated the class throughout the whole summer.
She is going to give you a bad grade for put extra information, and doesn't matter if it was right. In the group project is the same grade for all although you have it well. She can give you a bad grade for just putting a word that does not go with the question, or write it incorrectly.
I hate this teacher so much. She is so strict for no reason and cant even take it when we call her "Miss". She as to retire because she is making it harder for students to graduate.
The class time is miserable, the topics are abysmal and she just loves to make little comments. Always has time to give her 2 cents on anything and everything she can. Its a genuinely miserable class only took it because it was the only one available. would never take this again in a million years just straight-up miserable. DON'T TAKE THIS TEACHER
A lot of the students in the class that I took with her as the professor really disliked this teacher because of many reasons that others have listed on here in the previous posts. My personal opinion I enjoyed the class. She is knowledgeable on what she teaches. As long as you follow what she wants you will pass the class.
Worst professor I have ever had. Very rude to her student, says rude personal comments to her students in front of the whole class. Always had anxiety before her lectures
I find that in her class you learn a lot. Yes, she is strict and participation and attendance are important. This class is for people who want to learn. She has a lot of knowledge of her class. I liked that she did different types of evaluations, for example, a group, an oral, a discussion, an analysis, etc.
Professor Iles may initially come off as a very cold and strict person, however, she is incredibly dedicated to her profession and personal projects. She communicates mainly through email and is quick to reply to and queries. Make sure to take notes, anything that is written on the board will come up in assignments and exams.
Midterm and final exam. She also gave us group projects, 5 essays, oral report, and phone call exam which took 10mins answering 10 definitions. I think it was a lot of work. I don't recommend you to take her humanities course: HUM 1020.
Phone call exams, 5 essays, oral report, and group projects. I don't recommend you guys to take her course. Too many works.
just dont, wont talk to you, she always, always always have the reason
Professor Iles does give some attitude here and there but, besides that, she is a good teacher. You'll write essays, a group project, and a final presentation. The midterm exam is oral. Write good notes from everything she says and explains during the lectures, don't just copy what she writes down. If you do the work and participate, you'll pass.
Honestly, such a terrible professor. If you fail one of the homeworks, or get a low grade, it will be impossible to recoup the grade. Worst Professor Ive ever had—I couldnt stand her.
Visibly passionate about teaching Humanities. The students who are grading her poorly didn't pay attention. If you don't pay attention, then you won't pass, regardless of who the professor is. Learning from her made me engage in every class. She is extremely kind. Respect your responsibilities as a student, and you will pass!
It's clear Professor Delma Iles loves what she teaches. Even though it wasn't a class I was particularly good at, it was nice to see a teacher who clearly loves what she does. If you want to pass, take notes everything she writes on the whiteboard is important. Besides that, don't half-ass your assignments, and you'll pass with an "A."
I believe Delma Iles is a great professor. From day one, she established clear conduct rules and outlined what was expected of us. She's highly knowledgeable and organized. I don't believe her reviews on this platform do her justice. Overall, I would definitely take this course again.
I think every other review here will misguide you. Professor Iles is excellent and shows a true love and knowledge for the material. She will go in depth on each lecture, and as long as you take notes and keep up you will do well in the class. Her assignments need extra time and effort put into them, like most other classes. Put in the work
Rigorous course with many assignments, but engaging material. Attendance is a must. Use the textbook, and resources like Unstuckstudy to stay on top of the work. The professor is knowledgeable, if a bit demanding.
It's disappointing that MDC employs a teacher like this. During the spring semester, she missed seven classes, and despite complaints to the Chair and Dean, nothing was done. We paid for a full semester but lost half. She treats students poorly, often being arrogant. Choreography was done last minute, and she struggles to demonstrate exercises.
Whoever gave her a low rating was probably lazy or didn't read her syllabus. She is understanding and gives you many opportunities to past her class. As a dual enrollment student her class was very reasonable.
She dtm about the cameras and shes not sympathetic at all about what people have going on
She is a very tough grader but if you put in work it will be fine.
If u want a smooth easy class don't choose her. she makes simple assignments difficult for no reason at all. this is the most tiring class ever. need to use the bathroom on zoom? MARK. Get a call and your camera turns off? MARK. valid excuses? IGNORED. Save yourself.
I took Prof. Iles during the 6 week summer course. I was scared when i saw these reviews and honestly just take good notes and DONT SKIP CLASS! if you skip its harder to catch up. She is very passionate about humanities and can come off as mean sometimes. She also gives you lots of opportunities to pass the class. Just take notes and pay attention.
Professor Illes is very knowledgeable. She is an interesting person, strict but it helps you grow. I think her class was ok! Take notes on the white board, and make sure to do your assignments. She might send you to the writing lab if your writing skills aren't the best :) but if you are considering on taking this class keep in mind that you got it.
Camera always ON or deductions. No 2+ absentees or Dropped-off class. 10/10 if for God and her, you might spect at most 9.9/10. Rude during participation. Your not "essay" needs work-out in her friends Writting Lab to turn into an Academic Report. Do not use AI-GPT or Trouble. More cons, but she gaves a chance. I got 108.5% but I ended exhausted.
Very rude.
she is allergic to putting a ten does not explain anything and just and she and in overall rude. would sent you to the writing lab because she has friend in there.
