Dr. Gonzalez might be my favorite professor. She is the nicest person and really cares about the students. I took her for Organic Chem in the summer and she made it an enjoyable experience. She will do anything she can to help you make the grade you want.
If you have the chance to take Dr. Gonzalez, do so. She is so passionate about chemistry and so caring about her students that it is almost impossible to do poorly in her class. I have had good chemistry professors before, but no one compares to her. Fantastic teacher and an even better person.
Takes time each class to make sure that the class knows the most difficult concepts instead of wasting time on the easy high school chemistry stuff. Her accent makes it difficult to understand sometimes but she makes up for it by doing a lot of easy to follow examples on the white board.
I am taking Diaz next semester for chem 2. I struggled in her chem 1 class but this was mostly due to my lack of preparation for the first exam. Get ready to study, lots of homework, but thankfully the chem department does everything to try to buffer you test scores. Tests aren't that hard, just not enough time to work through each problem.
Dr. Gonzalez is an excellent professor. University Chem 2 is the hardest class I have ever taken. She does give quite a bit of homework, and expects you to read ahead.
This was your typical univ chem class. She was actually a great teacher and was very approachable before and after class to answer any question you had. However, if the mics dont work, good luck being able to hear her if you even sit past the 5th row. Also, attendance is basically mandatory as you get points for in-class questions.
Dr. Diaz cares about students more than any professor I have had. She is always checking in with the class to see if they are understanding the material and is happy to answer any questions. This course was very tough, with material being jam-packed into a semester, but she made it as easy to understand as possible.
Very smart and caring professor! She does an amazing job at explaining all the material thoroughly during the lectures. The Learning Catalytics questions aren't too hard, and when they are, she makes sure to help us out. While the tests are a bit difficult, you can always earn bonus through the homework and SI sessions.
Diaz is a pretty good professor. She spends obscene amounts of time on some problems and the accent can be tough to follow at times. Will definitely have to study some slides outside of class that she is unable to cover. Generally focuses on the material that will be on the exams.
Delmy was a good professor. A lot of people say that her accent made the class tough to follow, but that will obviously vary from person to person. Grades came from in class quizzes done via learning catalytics, online homework, and roughly four tests. Go to your SI to get help and extra easy points. If you study and attend class, you'll be fine
She often doesn't get to all of the material that will be on the exam, so you MUST do all of the reading on your own. She really does care, though, and will help you as much as she can. She takes the time to cover the basic concepts, which is helpful, but sometimes she doesn't have enough time for the more difficult stuff.
For this class, you have to watch the before class videos in order to understand what is going on. Dr. Gonzales gives a lot of examples. This class has a lot of homework just because there are before class and after class assignments, but the more practice the better.
Dr. Gonzales is an incredibly nice teacher. However, I find her lectures to be particularly bad. We have had a couple of tests where we didn't even get to finish all of the required material before a test, while other sections have an entire class of review. She spends too much time going over very easy concepts and then can't go over hard stuff.
Dr. Gonzales is a great professor and she makes learning chemistry pretty easy. She falls behind the class schedule sometimes though. Easy class for some, difficult for others. If you do the homework and pay attention in class (at least most of the time) you'll be fine. There are a lot of extra credit points in this course to help you out.
This was this professor's first time teaching fun chem and i think that is where the majority of people's problems stemmed from. She was still in the mindset of Univ chem. This class is heavy on the exams and on the homework which is through ALEKS and clicker points. If you don't slack off or miss literally any class you should be fine!
Great professor! She explains things well and cares a lot about her students. Work hard and she will love you!
In this class you teach yourself which is annoying because it is already a hard subject to learn. This is the worse professor I have been encountered with so far and Im a junior. There needs to be another professor who teaches this class. Delmy teaches extremely fast and with a accent so it is very hard to learn.
Dr. Diaz is AMAZING! She gives extra credit on almost every part of the class which really helps out with those struggling in the class. Even though the class was online, she was charismatic with her lectures and extremely understanding. I don't know how she did it, but she made online classes not so bad. Just wish I could of had her in person.
Dr. Gonzalez tends to go through hard material very quickly and goes through easy material very slow. This class is hard simply because you will have to teach it to yourself because her lectures are not good and not informative. When she does prepare slides with information, she skips it. She teaches like expects you to already know the material.
Like any chem class at the UofA, it takes a good amount of effort. Dr. Diaz does a great job of explaining difficult concepts in lamance terms which really helps. This has been the first chem class I've taken in college that I understand and am going to hopefully make an A in. Dr. Diaz really wants her students to succeed and will help when asked:)
Dr. Diaz-Gonzalez has good intentions, but her class is very difficult. Even if the average on an exam is an F, shes hesitant to curve it. She tries to fit too much material into each exam, and on our final, we were tested over concepts traditionally taught in Organic II because she wanted to go ahead and cram it in at the end.
Buckle up ladies and gents because once the train starts its not stopping. She will NOT stop a lecture to answer questions, let alone look at them. So I hope the TA in the class is able to keep up with 300 students worth of questions because once you are lost in the already confusing forest of organic chemistry you are going to have self teach.
She does really try her best to teach but she goes extremely fast which is not good since it is already a hard class. She changed the homework because too many students were getting good grades. She does not let students speak during class or ask questions and she wont slow down. I do not think she is the best at teaching to all students but tries.
Dr. Gonzalez is a super nice person but not the best professor. I took Organic Chem I and Organic Chem II with her because she was the only professor available. She doesn't explain things in a way that everyone can understand, and it really shows on the exam averages. She also does NOT take her time with difficult material. I DO NOT recommend.
Dr. Gonzalez is a nice woman, but she doesn't do a great job of explaining the fundamentals of Organic Chem. You are required to attend class due to the graded questions/quizzes she delivers during class. For the exams, you are better off trying to focus on learning the material from the book.
Dr. Diaz is a truly nice person, but her method of teaching does not apply to the majority of the class. All the difficult content is always skimmed through quickly. I have had her 2 semesters now & I could confidentially say that I have not retained ANY of this information long term.
I found lecture outlines extremely helpful, class itself not as much. She was a good teacher, just knows the content so well that it makes it hard for her to understand why we're struggling. Also had her for OChem 1.
She will assign homework and not tell you when she assigns it. You have to continuously check. Her English is ok, but her accent makes it hard to understand her. You can honestly do horribly on the tests as long as you get good grades on the other assignments. The exams given are a lot harder than the practice exam she gives out.
Dr. Diaz is super nice and funny. The class is hard. She moves through material fast, so its best to read the textbook chapter ahead of lecture. Gives a ton of extra credit. If you study the way she suggests, you should be able to do well. Tests are hard, but never cover anything we haven't gone over in class. Requires a lot of time dedication.
She is really nice. Her English is good. And as an international student, I can understand her accent. This class is a high-level class, so you should be ready for long and heavy tests. If you failed a test, do not worry, she will give you a lot of bonus points.
Dr. Diaz is very fair and does a great job teaching the material! However, you have to put in the work by reading the chapter sections before lecture as well as doing lots of end of chapter practice problems after reading each chapter. A very rewarding class for those who work hard, are dedicated to the course, and ask lots of questions.
To do well in this class requires participation. I feel that most people give bad ratings due to low test scores. Go to class, go to drill, take notes in the book, complete your homework, do practice problems, and study for tests days in advance and tests will be a breeze. Do all of these things and you will succeed easily!
Great professor, She shows her knowledge on the subject by being able to teach well. Has an accent! (difficult some but give her a chance) There were exams (on respondus, but she doesn't make her own questions) and there was Connect homework. Theres also a drill every week with a quiz and Learning Catalytic in class questions. Lots of easy points.
Dr. Diaz is a caring, fair professor. While I felt that I could have gotten more from her lectures as far as structure, I really appreciated the practice material she sent out. She also tries to give as much extra credit as possible. I feel like the Chem Department has a bad rep in general, but Dr. Diaz is as friendly and encouraging as possible
I loved Dr. Diaz. She is kind, patient, and does everything in her power to help her students succeed. She was very forgiving with extra credit and extended deadlines. This class is definitley a lot of work, but it is manageable and very rewarding if you put the time and effort in.
Dr. Diaz is an amazing professor. She is caring, funny, and approachable. She makes class an inviting environment where you do not feel intimidated to ask questions. She has an accent but it is very easy to understand. There isn't much homework and I didn't think the tests were too difficult. She gives extra credit and it isn't hard to get an A.
Dr. Diaz is so kind to her students. She is understanding, approachable, and even funny during class. She reassured us consistently post-exams and made sure to give us incentives such as bonus points, supplemental study materials, curves on assignments, and assignments to provide a cushion to her exams. I enjoyed Organic with her very much!!
Dr. Diaz is one of the nicest ladies I have ever met. Her class is the most difficult one I've ever taken, but she doesn't make it miserable at all. I enjoyed going to class, and she is more than willing to help if you put in the work. There is in-class work, SI, 3 tests and a final, and homework grades.
So nice and understanding. Ochem is a hard subject but she does everything she can to help you. Bonus points are given and your lowest test grade can be dropped if your final grade is better. Homework is online and gives multiple attempts. Tests follow lecture material. Responds to emails quick.
I did well in UC1/2 -- organic has been a STRUGGLE. You have to study, study, study. Delmy is a very nice and caring woman, just doesn't always convey the material super well. She rushes through some things, and goes too slow through others.
Such an amazing professor! I was nervous going into ochem, but she has made it as easy as possible. Although ochem isn't an easy class, she provides so many different supplemental materials and it makes it a lot easier. She is very clear about the material we need to know, and doesn't hesitate to stop during lecture if we are confused.
Professor Delmy was extremely caring. If you are disciplined and work hard you can easily pass this class and even make a good grade. There is so many extra points you can get too. She genuinely wanted us all to succeed which is not something you see in professors in classes like these. It was really encouraging.
Dr. Diaz really cares about chemistry and teaching her students. The lectures are sometimes challenging to follow, but with the help of the homework and practice materials, it's doable. Dr. Diaz does the class in more of a review fashion - being clear that you're expected to be familiar with ideas before the class period. Exams are hard but doable.
The course was hard, I'll say that, but Delmy was a fantastic professor and she really cares about your learning.
Dr. Diaz is a good professor. Very caring and understanding but this is a hard class. She is pretty clear about what to expect and tries as much as she can to help whenever. You will work hard for a good grade but it is because the class is difficult. Exams are pretty tough. Do the work and you should be fine.
This is a hard class, and you cannot expect to do well without putting in work. The tests are very difficult, but there are homework assignments, SI points, bonus point opportunities and in class questions to boost your grade. It is challenging, but Dr. Diaz loves her students and wants them to succeed, and she tries her best to make that happen.
Dr. Diaz is the best chem professor at Arkansas. She genuinely cares about all of her students and their grades. If you have any questions she will email you back or go to her office hours because she wants to understand the material. She will slow down if majority of the class doesn't understand. Her exams are so fair! highly recommend!
Dr. Gonzalez is the best! I was nervous about OCHEM but she made it a breeze. She's the most caring and helpful professor that I've had at UARK. There are Learning Catalytics points in class, so going to class is a must. She gives extra credit and you get points from drill, so if you study an A is very doable!
She is a pretty solid teacher for organic. The lectures are mainly her just explaining a concept and working an example problem. She can be a little scattered, but she really knows what she's talking about. There's a lot of extra credit built into the class.
Dr. Diaz is a great professor, and is so easy to meet with outside of class Ochem is a hard class, but she does her best to explain things well. If you have difficulty listening in lecture, the textbook provided is concise and does a great job explaining the material. Exams are difficult but she offers some extra credit throughout the semester.
Dr. Delmy is nice but her tests are SOOO hard.
Dr. Diaz knows what she is talking about, but because of the fast-paced manner of the class, she often doesn't clarify important information. She sometimes makes mistakes during lectures and most of the class is left in confusion; if you aren't in the middle of the lecture hall, chances are she won't call on you for a question. Otherwise, great prof
Super accessible outside of class, and study materials she gives to students are very close to the tests. There are daily pop quizzes (2 questions that you work with students next to you on). Try to make it to lecture having read/done some of the homework. She does mostly practice in class, so being slightly familiar with the content really helps.
You have to read the textbook before class to understand. She doesn't clear up the topics; she just goes over them in her own words, so if you didn't get it before class, you won't get it after. She's not miserable to listen to. She lectures like you have already learned this information and she is just refreshing your memory if that makes sense.
I LOVED DR. DIAZ!!! I took for O chem 1 and 2 and she was amazing for both. Easily the best chemistry professor I have ever had. There are quite a few assignments, which is a helpful cushion for your grade, not to mention they help you to understand the content. Take her if you can!
Lecture is very important, but the class was expected to read ahead of time. There is a lot of material, but she was always upbeat and ready to teach. Learn before you come to class, because she works a lot of problems which is helpful.
Do not rely on the assignment due dates in the syllabus as almost all of them were changed. There were multiple chapters/parts of chapters she didn't lecture over but still expected you to know. SI is required and quizzes are not just participation points. Did not find provided study guides helpful for exams. Hardest class I took this semester.
she doesn't post the results of the exams directly after the exam even after the final, so expect to drown in anxiety for a while. the practice exams are useless and the book is your best friend. prepare for many questions on the exam to have 8 possible answers. be forewarned if you must take this class, it's hell.
Dr. Diaz is EASILY my favorite professor at UArk. She is so so kind, and really knows ochem. You MUST attend lecture to do well, but honestly the lectures go by so quickly. Do your homework, read the textbook, take good notes, and do the practice material and you will do great! Wish I could take this class again. Ochem is tough, so study hard!! :)
you can tell she knows a lot about chemistry and can be good at simplifying hard concepts, but she will lose track of time and then try to cram in a whole chapter the right before an exam. learn from my mistakes, do the suggested problems and read the textbook so you don't get blasted by the exams.
She cares about her students and is very helpful in office hours. Course is hard but it's expected.
One of the best chemistry professors here! O chem is difficult, but Delmy really cares about you understanding the content. She also throws in some extra credit opportunities here and there! She is clear on what should be done to succeed in the course and is always ready to help when you need it.
Dr. Diaz is a great Organic professor and really wants to see her students to succeed. She is always available to meet if you have questions, and is very clear on what you should study to do well on the tests.
Great teacher! Just practice a lot and you will get the hang of it! Her lecture examples are similar to those of the exam.
Loved Dr. Gonzalez, only wish she followed lecture slides because lecture is sorta hard to follow. O chem is a hard subject but she made the mood light and was very positive and caring. She really wants you to understand the material, and the tests are hard. You have to study outside of class to pass. Get past exams from older people to make As
Lectures are definitely a drag, but the explanations and expectations for exams are both very clear. Not the easiest class, but put in a little effort and Dr. Diaz will make it seem pretty straightforward. Textbook helps if you need it but Dr. Diaz usually explains things well enough.
I truly enjoyed Organic Chem 1 with Dr. Diaz. She understands that the material is hard but she does her best to make it understandable, and I think she succeeded the majority of the time. Had a good sense of humor about it in lecture. Overall very kind lady and really knows her stuff! Really cares about her students, too!
Dr. Diaz is fantastic. Can't wait to take her for Orgo 2. Very knowledgeable and a great teacher. I would recommend trying to talk to her before or after class, she is very personable and fun to interact with.
She's a great professor! Definitely genuinely cares about her students, is passionate about what she teaches, and I personally think she's pretty funny. She's not fantastic at pacing the material sometimes, but overall she's a great professor. You must keep up with the material. Use book problems, that's where test problems are from.
Organic chemistry is hard, but her teaching is amazing. she's caring & funny. Watch YT and review as soon as you get home! Lots of info and you'll use learning cata. for att points. Required drill (you'll need the points) Ochem II is harder (also taught by her). Exams are online using lockdown browser at home (evening). Lots of memorization
I've taken Dr. Gonzalez for Ochem I and II and have enjoyed every second of it. These classes are difficult courses to take, but Dr. Gonzalez makes the content very palatable and if she doesn't finish teaching a concept by exam time she will take it off the exam as to not stress students. She also offers extra credit out of the blue. She's the GOAT
I have really enjoyed having Dr. Diaz for Organic Chem 1 and 2. They are hard classes but she understands the course material well and almost always explains it clearly. She is available for any questions you may have and is so sweet!
Dr. Diaz conveys the material in the best way possible, making them reasonable to learn. The homework and textbook problems really help a lot. She is also very accessible outside of class with her office hours, and is really good at explaining tough concepts 1 on 1. I would highly recommend her!
Ochem is extremely hard, and her lectures weren't very helpful for me. You can tell she knows what she's talking about, but I just didn't think she was able to explain it very clearly to students. She cares, though, and wants to help everyone.
Honestly, just read the textbook. The lectures are not very good and I found myself not really learning from them. I learned mostly when I would have study sessions with friends before the exams, and I found out a little too late just how good the textbook is compared to her slides. There is some extra credit but don't depend on it.
She is a great person but she cannot teach at all, the lectures are barely related to the slides to succeed in this I really suggest getting a tutor and read the book, again great person but the way she teaches is just not good at all
Dr. Diaz has been a phenomenal professor for both O-chem 1 and 2. Organic chemistry is an insanely tough series of courses and when people have to put in even a little effort outside of class, they start blaming random things for their poor performance, be wary of that when reading reviews! Dr. Diaz is incredibly nice and is an amazing lecturer.
She is so caring and is willing to meet with you outside of office hours to help you understand. O chem can be a hard class but her tests are very fair and she prepares you well for them.
I LOVE HER! She's so funny and so sweet. She also has HUNDREDS of students but is super easy to reach. The class is obviously difficult but the grading is fair and if you put in the work, your grade will reflect it. Again, absolutely love her and can't wait to take ochem II with her next semester.
She was a great professor. She was very helpful and accommodated for athletes. She is always willing to help and as long as you go to class and pay attention you will be fine.
Very fair grading even though there's a lot of reading, homework, and practice problems. One test can be replaced by the final exam grade but the final is not optional. Very funny in lectures and sweet. DO NOT MISS EXAM; not very accommodating to moving exams but with over 500+ students its understandable. Makes lectures very understandable.
OChem is a hard class, but Dr. Diaz has lots of experience teaching it, and gives good lectures.
Very difficult class to succeed in if you fall behind in the beginning, but Delmy is awesome. She's super kind and will meet with you outside of class any time she is available. The grading criteria is very clear, and very little bonus is given. The most important part is doing the pre reading, suggested textbook problems, and lots of practice.
Dr. Díaz is the worst professor I have ever had. Her lectures can put you to sleep due to her monotonous delivery and lack of proficiency in English, which makes it nearly impossible to pay attention. She is also very unresponsive to emails, and when she does reply, her messages are often unprofessional and somewhat rude.
Dr. Diaz is amazing and wants students to succeed. However, you absolutely need to read the textbook, do the practice problems, and access other resources to succeed. This is not a class you can brush off. SI and homework are very helpful and Dr. Diaz is always open to meet with you.
She's honestly one of the best professors I've had here. Admittedly, her handwriting is questionable. But her love for the subject is apparent, and almost contagious.
