Very interesting class. Nice teacher whose passionate about the subject. 14 quizzes (every friday)..drop 4. 2 midterms, 5 essay responses, 1 Research paper, 1 presentation, and a final. Pretty easy class, just do the work..gives out a study guide. Gotta read the book but it's interesting. She walks you through everything..easy upper division class.
A true gem of knowledge, passion, intelligence & pedagogy. Take this class. Show-up, do the reading, ask her for any help. This will be a life-enhancing course. One that creates a better world for us all no matter what your major!
This is a composition class. Her classes are very enlighting and entertaining. She is there to teach you the course's material and more. Just put your best effort, and really don't be afraid to think out of the box in this class. Best college course so far, and I swear I hated anything to do with english before this class.
This teacher is passionate about the topic and cares for the students in her class. However, she expects more out of students depending on their background. I did not read the book and aced most quizes. When it came to the tests and the research paper, she was much harder on my score than others. Many did not believe me, I compared with others.
This is a composition class. She is quite the character! SHe has an outgoing personality and knows how to connect with us the youth in how she talks. however she goes off in tangents too much, and gives papers that are rarely based on things we are talking about or have ever talked about. You do not really have to go to class to succeed, but its fu
She is a very good teacher. She knows what she is talking about. But, she expects alot from her students. Tends to overestimate them. I went to every class, did every assignment, and only ended up with a B+. She is definitely a tough grader, but is a very good teacher. If you are interested in LEARNING take this class not because you want an easy A
Wonderful class, excellent professor, yet the daunting number of terminology you need to memorize will make regret taking this class. If u have a goldfish memory like me, then is def not for you.
Mrs. Fisher is a tough teacher, let me tell you. Yes, you might get frustrated with her papers because they are not easy. However, if you put the time and effort into her lectures and assignments, you can get an A-. I got an A-. She makes this class fun and worthwhile. Hence, why I am now an Africana Studies minor. I recommend this class :]
This class will be extremely hard for you if you are unable to write exceptionally. Professor Fisher is a VERY good instructor, however she expects a lot from her students. For sure take this class if you are a decent writer.
Very easy course. She was disorganized and confusing at times but she helped me out a lot. She will work with you and cares a lot about her students. Definitely doesn't take mess!
I really liked her! She was very passionate about her work and also her students. But watch out when she is in a mood its going to be a long class. But over all really easy and is worth taking.
She is a really nice teacher, but she will say one thing at one time and then a couple minutes later contradict herself. She is not really clear, but in all a great teacher. She helped me a lot understand what I am doing wrong in a speech.
She's a good professor she is very funny each class is interesting. You don't really have to dress up for speeches and the class is very much passable.
Fisher is all over the place and despite this being the easiest class I had, it was the most dreaded. She is absolutely insane and sometimes even rude. Prepare to wear a fake smile and put up with her for the whole semester. You pretty much HAVE to go to class. I would recommend COMM103 instead. Dreadful class despite easiness. Don't buy the book.
Dr. Fisher is pretty clear with her lectures. She basically states what's on the final three times in a row, so you can write it in your notes. At times she can be funny. You don't really need the textbook since she goes over the chapters in class lectures. Speeches are easy and you don't have to memorize or dress up for them.
Professor Fisher is definitely a character. She is very passionate about what she is teaching and it is obvious in her lecturing. As long as you read the assigned passages before class you should be fine for the discussions. You have to refer to the syllabus for due dates on essays and what passages to read. Office hours are helpful if confused.
Very easy A if you show up and put in minimal effort for the speeches. Review notes quickly before the test to do well on the midterm and final. Really cares about her students, worked with me to keep my grade up through personal problems going on. Go to office hours and get to know her and she'll be much more likely to help you in a situation.
I really recommend this professor! I learned a lot from her my first semester as a freshman! Glad I took her. I'm really going to miss her. Gives clear feedback and lets you re write some of your essays. A great professor who really cares about her students!
She is an amazing teacher & I learned a lot but she is very tough! She will call you out randomly & participation is necessary. She is very unclear & confusing. I guessed on a lot of assignments which was frustrating & essays mostly did not have anything to do with what we learned. She is a very passionate & will respect you if you respect her
Prof Fisher is the best! I was really nervous going into this class for fear of public speaking but she makes it not so bad! You dont have to memorize or dress up for any speeches and she grades them easy. If she sees that you're trying then you'll do well! The speeches are super easy but the midterm was harder so take good notes!! would take again
If you want help she most likely not give it to you. She's very clear that after she says something she will not repeat herself. Other than that it was a great class. Very interactive and informational!
This class is NEVER boring. You don't have to memorize speeches, and her assignments (barely any) are actually interesting. She can be little disorganized but you can easily ask her to clarify her assignments or refer to her syllabus. I came into this class TERRIFIED of public speaking, and she helped me a lot. I will miss having her as a professor
Very strange and hard to follow lectures. Tough grader but few papers. Passionate
One of the easier classes I took. She can definitely seem a bit intimidating at first, but just listen to what she tells you. Do EXACTLY what she asks with regard to speeches and even if you're not good at public speaking, fake it 'til you make it for 3-5 minutes and you'll get an A. I got As on all my speeches (3 individual, 2 group) and exams (2)
Ms. Fisher was my favorite teacher my freshman year, and maybe of all four years. Public speaking is something I dread and oddly this was one of my favorite classes. A key to staying on her good side is staying after class and discussing how you did or just talking about other kids speeches. No memorization and short speeches!
Although she is not so specific on grading at times she is very understanding. She is a caring teacher and was especially helpful during my freshman year. Also make sure you read all the assigned pages because she will ask questions about them on the spot.
She is a teacher alright. Thats about it. She's super passionate but its annoying and weird. She has the easy COMM-103 alternative class so it is full of athletes - who she tries to related with way too much. Easy class though, barely tried. I'd recommend (also she is a good laugh)
This class should only be taking if you are a moderate speaker.I've always been kind of a shy and nervous speaker and a beginner.I came to this class to expand my speaking capabilities but was it was hard because she is really intimidating and puts nervous people on the spot.
Professor Fisher is amazing. Lectures are interactive and interesting, and she values student participation. There are both in class writing assignments and essays throughout the semester. Both rely heavily on the assigned readings, but the readings are interesting and fun to read. She's also very understanding and willing to work with you.
TAKE THIS CLASS INSTEAD OF COMM103! She is an easy grader when it comes to speeches. I have a stuttering problem and still managed to get A's on all of them. She is a very respectable teacher, very intelligent . There is very little homework besides the speeches, but I definitely recommend studying a lot for the midterm and final. SHOW UP TO CLASS!
I think this class is worth taking if you are willing to show that you care and will put the work in. Fisher is a good professor if you are on her good side, but at times her expectations are unrealistic (she once yelled at us for not having our speeches ready two days before they were due). However, her speeches are easy and aren't memorized.
Prof. Fisher is intimidating to many people because she is very straightforward; however, do not let that scare you away. Her lectures are passionate, and you WANT to take notes than feeling forced to take notes. Speeches are very easy because she understands people have anxiety, and she grades easily, too. Follow the syllabus, and read ahead!
Prof Fisher is so great. Her lectures are very interesting and make you want to get involved. They're really interesting because you can kind of relate to it. Make sure you take notes, because midterm & final depend on that. 5 essays that are really short (3 pages max). Show up because she randomly takes attendance and counts as participation.
Professor Fisher can come off as a little bit strong. She seems like a tough teacher but she actually is really lenient when it comes to grading. Make sure you keep up with the work and double check your citations on your projects. Other then that, easy class to take.
This class is a super easy communication class, just do well on the presentation. The lecture was confusing, but she is an easy grader on the test. Just try to write something and you will get the point.
This is the COMM class that you can use notes in, which is why athletes choose this class over the other 2 . Sympathetic to those who have struggles speaking. Midterm, final, 3 solo speeches, 2 group. My one gripe is that she's one of those professors who doesn't post grades during the semester. Otherwise she's nice as long as you pay attention.
She makes the speeches easy. She will provide you with the outlines, and you aren't required to memorize the whole speech (usually only the intro). Two group speeches. Does some impromptu stuff, but rarely. Barely uses textbook. As a teacher, she will try to intimidate you but she gives good feedback for your speeches and is understanding.
Before her class I hated public speaking , I avoided talking at all costs. Her class is really good because she is straightforward and will do her best to help you if you show that you want to get better. She grades mostly on how well you have improved rather than how good you are at speeches. The best comm class out here so take it!
Fisher was a great professor. I was always hearing my friends in Comm 103 complain about how hard their classes were, but I never struggled in Fisher's class. She isn't too harsh of a grader -- I always earned A's and B's on my speeches. She really just wants you to be respectful of others and challenge yourself as a speaker.
She is one of the most amazing professors I have had at Sdsu. Granted, she does seem sort of crazy, but I would highly recommend her for Afras 120. She is very insightful and helps you with what to write about in your essays. They may seem tough at first but if you go to class she explains everything. She is one of the best teachers you could take
She grades based off of how she is feeling. Very old-fashioned in her methods and not very communicative about what she wants. Expects you to read the book on your own and doesn't lecture or talk about it very much (it's only important for the midterm and final). She likes to pick on students and put them on the spot. I didnt enjoy her class.
I reallly enjoyed her but she does have little things that are frustrating. She doesnt post grades online, expects you to read book but barely uses it in class and doesnt respond to emails. Very old fashioned but when you get over that shes great and grades pretty easy as long as you show that your trying.
Shes very odd. But in a good way. Does put students on the spot. Always come prepared for the speeches, they are pretty easy. It is an easy class to pass. Make sure to have a notebook to write down the notes she BARELY gives. Her lectures are okay. ASK QUESTIONS if you sincerely do not understand something or see her after class.
Professor Fisher is by far my favorite professor that I have had yet. She is ruthless in the best possible way. If you come to class but dont show attention, get ready to be called out. If you attend every lecture and look at her online postings, the class is an easy pass since she basically hands everyone the material.
-Easy to pass if you do all the speeches (which aren't that hard) and 4 simple video critiques. -one midterm + final -She is charismatic and can put you on the spot during lecture, but recognizes that some people hate public speaking and is respectful of that -supposed to read the textbook everyday but you can survive without -confusing directions
Professor Fisher was very understanding when it came to virtual learning. She gave many opportunities to make up any speeches you missed. She was however, unorganized. The class consists of 7 speeches, 4 video critiques, a midterm and a final. The midterm and final though included nothing she taught, you're pretty much on your own.
She is a very easy grader when it comes to speeches because she completely understands speech anxiety and looks more for growth and meeting the criteria. However, she never responds to emails, she doesn't post grades, and she never lectures. The midterm and final was hard because she never mentions any of the material.
Was very forgiving of missing work, but she is extremely unorganized. Rambles a lot during class. Does not post grades at all. I did not know my grade until the end of the semester. Does not go over any material during "lectures" so the midterm and final you're basically on your own trying to figure out the content.
I think she's a nice person but I didn't think she was a good teacher. The instructions for speeches were really confusing and she didn't explain them very well in class. She will interrupt you during your speech to correct you. It's an easy class and you'll pass if you try but every M W F were the longest 50 mins of my life.
Honestly, the course material is actually easy but she is really rude most of the time. She will interrupt you during a speech or call you out during a lecture. She is really generous when grading your assignments but sometimes she would just take off points for random reasons. There's a midterm and a final. But overall the course is easy to pass.
Total of 7 speeches, but the directions aren't clear. She will put you on the spot a lot. (I don't like speaking in front of crowds, and I feel like she made it more difficult by interrupting a lot of the time). Her tests are also poorly written and hard to follow.
Pro. Fisher's outlines are very unclear which will make you lost. So you're going to have to reread her outlines and post multiple times to fully understand what she is trying to have you to because it's not worded properly. If you email her a question about something, she'll either ignore the email or respond without answering the question.
Don't buy the book. Instructor is unorgnaized, aggressive, and is sometimes in a very bad mood. She will randomly have rants, call people out if they do not understand some terms. While the class is easy, you might lose a couple years of your life listening to her. Hated every second of it.
She's fun and very generous when grading. I was surprised at how high my scores were on my speeches. That being said, she can be very rude. She interrupts during speeches, and singles out students. She wonders why no one asks questions, and then gets visibly frustrated when a student asks a very valid question. Very confusing outlines as well.
Overall the class was pretty simple, show up, give your speech and endure the professor. As far as oral comms goes I would just say take a different professor, no need to go through a semester if you don't have to
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS; fisher is a VERY unorganized professor - she never explains assignments and gets angry when asked a valid question on the assignments. she takes any chance to single out students and yell at them. does not respond to emails. made multiple students cry during their speeches and then wonders why kids dont show up to class.
She will call out students and verbally harass them if they do not know the correct answer or if they mess up. Is horrible with communication and acts like her students and job is a burden.
the first week was her just giving vocab then after that every single class was public speaking. i personally had a great experience with her but she would put a lot of pressure on students so her teaching style is pretty old school. she also isn't too straight forward anytime i had a question it was hard to get an accurate response.
Horrible Professor. Has no idea how to use a computer. Spent 30min of class time trying to present a pdf as a powerpoint. She would have been a good professor in the 80s. Definitely not good in an online environment.
Most of the 1* comments on here are from students that didnt come to class and then expected her to catch them up. She cares about what she teaches and teaches it well. As long as you pay attention and attend class youll be good.
Basically if youre looking for a class where you sit there and just wonder how you are staring at the worst professor on campus, feel free to sign up for a fisher class. She is just blatantly rude and screams at kids for no reason. the class just laughs at her because she sounds like a maniac. The class feels like a social experiment.
Hands down the worst professor at SDSU. Does not care about the students and there wellbeing whatsoever. Constantly be littles the students about there speeches and constantly interrupts. She is not clear on assignments and gives zero instruction and when asked to clarify we are yelled at. It is obvious that this professor does not like her job.
She has made several comments in class about students that are personal and cruel. She goes out of her way to interrupt students while they are talking and belittle them if she disagrees with their stance. She has not given any feedback that is substantive nor helpful. If you are good at writing essays that cater to her opinions you will be fine.
Take another instructor/class that fulfills your requirement
An unprofessional and unorganized adultist. Don't even bother trying to participate unless you aim to cater to her specific beliefs and needs. If you try to speak in class, be prepared to be flat out disrespected and possibly yelled at if you interpret the text or her question the wrong way. Take any other professor for your requirement.
Comes off as very strict and unreasonable at times but only interrupts people mid-speech because she is trying to help them get full points. In the moment it can seem rude, but she has good intentions. Follow her rules, do what she says and you will be heavily rewarded. Go to class. 2 diff because the exams were a leap of faith, no review, nothing.
Prof. Fisher was honestly hilarious. I did not like this class at all at first but she definitely pushes you to your limit speech wise. She definitely has favorites but overall is very fair. She gives harsh and constructive criticism but is a really easy grader. There is no way you fail this class unless you blatantly do not show up at all.
Honestly, you just put in the effort, and she will reward you. She can be a little blunt but most of the time it's deserved. She's a really easy grader.
Don't take this class. This professor is so unorganized and constantly jumps around on topics that aren't even in the book. You will regret taking this class. She had no lesson plans coming into class and just talks with no structure.
you're dealing with a bold personality, unorganized and vague in explaining. You get discussion, lots of 10 point quizzes, midterm and final. You do a 10 page research paper.I hated the fact that she assigned it a month before finals and didn't open the prompt sooner. The work is manageable. i wouldn't take her class again based off her personality
Professor Fisher is hard to learn from. This may be petty, but the worst parts of class were her giving lecture over musical examples, making it impossible to hear her or the music properly. She is also prone to being belligerent or sideways with students. Attending class gets you good grades, because she gives out answers to quizzes explicitly.
Professor doesn't have a lot of 1 star reviews for nothing. Anything said about her is true. Very unorganized, rude, and difficult. I would recommend not taking her class at all, even if you needed to. She didn't let a student use the bathroom...it wasn't even during a speech. Not good at teaching or being nice. I would say more but the word count
I have seen this professor make students cry and she yells at students during speeches. If you have the option to not to take this class, do not take it. I would not take this class again EVER.
Wow, I don't think I've ever had a professor this bad. She does not care about you as a student whatsoever and she will make that obvious. Her lectures are all over the place and hard to follow, she is rude and inaccessible outside of class, and she will shame and embarrass you in front of all of your peers. Take ANY other prof for your own sanity
With all the bad reviews, I honestly wasn't going to take this class but I am so glad I did. Professor Fisher is one of the nicest professors at SDSU. Probably my favorite professor. Once you get to know her, you realize she cares deeply about all her students. Just do the work, show up to class, & apply yourself. You won't regret taking this class
Worst is an understatement. She wouldnt care if you were on your death bed. She mocks, laughs, and mimicks you all while you are trying your best. On top of that she doesnt respond to your emails and cannot get a simple point across for the life of her, its all gibrish. Prayers wont even save you. You are paying to be degrded.
I didn't read her reviews here until I was in the middle of her course and honestly they surprised me. I have never seen her even come close to making anyone cry or yell at them in a serious way. She's a funny professor, definitely has a screw or two loose but very entertaining. Also a pretty easy grader, not many lectures
As long as you do your speech you pass the class. Her test material is confusing she says study certain chapters but the test arent based off that. Overall easy to pass even if you fail test. Sometimes she does make comments that make students not like her.
Shes funny and nice depending on the day, most days it was a long lecture and yelling at students for not knowing an answer to a question. Felt miserable everytime i walked into the classroom to be honest, especially as someone who hates public speaking, but shes understanding toward those with anxiety. just SHOW UP TO CLASS and try your best
She can be pretty rude and condescending if you ask questions, whether it be a clarifying question or just about the material in general. The directions and topics she gives out for speeches are also very vague. Also, many assignments/lessons overlapped each other, and it just felt very rushed.
She is definitely interesting.... but kind of in a good way! Her teaching style is old fashion, and she likes to lecture but it's kind of fun if she's not in a bad mood! The speeches are fairly easy IF you're willing to work but she's kind of a harsh grader but not that bad. Idk if I would take her class again, but it was definitely an experience.
what the buns bro. the class is so garbo. she just yaps and calls individuals out for fun. sometimes she's in a good mood but it's hella hit or miss. the speeches aren't that bad compared to what they could be, but the outlines are helpful and important to the speeches, so do those well. long frickin textbook but i didn't read more than a chapter.
Prof.Fisher just wants you to learn, but it may be difficult because she isn't very good at explaining things and can be rude. She is not afraid to call you out and embarrass you in front of the class, but if you talk to her and do your work, you'll be fine. She is understanding of students' situations and likes to get to know everyone on one.
Extremely harsh grader with zero flexibility. No late or makeup work under any circumstances. Expect to send multiple follow-up emails just to get one short, unprofessional reply. Explanations are very unclear, the class feels disorganized, and students are called out publicly. Tone is always unbearingly rude. Expect high stress and zero support.
She's old school. Professor Fisher's teaching style is largely overlooked today. She's straightforward and honest. She says what's on her mind and doesn't sugarcoat anything. Sometimes, she can get lost in the assignments/text, but her teaching is genuine. If you don't mind brutal honesty and a stricter teacher, Professor Fisher is the one for you
do not take this class. delores is disrespectful and if you ask her a question she'll just think your stupid. we had speeches almost every other week and were required to wear business casual. She claims you need to read some online textbook but you rlly don't. Midterm/final were easy. As long as you complete the assignments, you'll be fine.
Fisher comes off as harsh and honest. Honestly, very lenient grader with speeches, but there are a LOT of them. Class feels unorganized, was confused a lot of the time. Goes strictly off syllabus and she respects you if you show up to class consistently. If you're shy, don't take her. She's not afraid to embarrass you or call you out.
Very disrespectful and inconsiderate. She has very unclear instructions and basically tells you you're on your own when you ask for clarification. Does not understand technology. Her canvas and syllabus are conflicting which lead to me being late on assignments or nearly missing test. Otherwise she's not the worst but I feel its time to retire.
As long as you do what you're supposed to on speeches- you're fine. Times where she was pretty rude and went back on her word with assignments. Assignments were not very difficult, and tests were easy if you studied.
