He's a real nice guy but his class is harder than most 400-level classes. He seems to think life revolves around his class. Assigns a bunch of reading and doesn't give a lot of time for assignments. He's a very tough grader and paper formatting nazi. Unfortunately GOVT 300 is required to graduate and he's the only teacher for this class.
I gurantee that you will dread going to this class.. He is very strict with grading and his exams are hard; it is mostly based on statistics and spss. 85% of the class got a 50-60% on the midterm. 4 lab hw's, IT ethics module component, research paper, midterm, final, and attendance(lab).
HORRIBLE PROFESSOR. Do not take! He gives vague assignments and then grades them extremely hard. His lectures are worthless (most people do not come to class) and the TAs have to re-teach everything. Most of the class failed the midterm with no curve or chance of extra credit. No one asks any questions in class because he is mean.
This professor is frustrating and the majority of students leave the lecture more confused than before. The TAs in lab reteach everything. I've never been one to complain about professors but this guy seems to have no idea (or just doesn't care) that most of the students are failing.
I would like to congradulate this professor..-.- i have never dreaded going to class as much as his.he is aweful at lecture and the TA's do not grade consistently. Only one statistic problem on the midterm that is 50% of the grade! Unfortunately, nobody else teaches this class..i hope gmu hires another professor.
Its hard to image how he could be any worse! Everybody dreads going to his class and he has ADD moments in his lectures. He's a very slow grader, assigns countless hours of homework assignments that don't help, has extremely difficult tests and papers and isn't willing to help by giving extra credit or curving his test that most students fail.
Despite being a "govt" class, I don't think govt was ever even mentioned. I swear I don't even know what the class is supposed to be about! Daigle's lectures make no sense because he just seems to rattle off random numbers in formulas that he never taught us. TA's try to help, but even they seem confused. Avoid this class like the plague!
Okay, so up until the final I would have given him a bit of a higher rating because I was getting along with the material and had a passable grade of B-. Then I took the final! What a disaster!!! If you must take the class aim for a 91 average to be exempt from the final! Oh, and don't miss any classes, he goes fast!!!!
I found Dr. Daigle to be knowledgable, approachable and friendly. I was an average student but he gave me advice, and although the final was hard, he did curve it. I only needed a C and ended with a B so i am happy.
Yes this class was extremely hard. Yes we're all government majors trying to do math. But if you pay attention and actually try, A's are possible. You cannot get behind and you must understand each concept in order to move on and do well.
My gosh, this is the hardest class I have ever taken. The amount of work required is absolutely amazing
I am not sure why students from the past semester have rated prof. daigle so poorly. The class was amazing, hard, but amazing. The work load is not a lot unless you make it seem like it is. He is very helpful and tries his best to help his students as much as he can. The tests are not easy, but if you attend class and take notes you will be fine.
The hardest class that I have ever taken. Only two tests that aren't curved despite the fact most students get D's and F's. Lab is only 50 minutes - nowhere near time needed to actually learn skills need for the research paper. Others are right - workload isn't bad but only if you have no friends or social life WHATSOEVER! Hard for everyone else.
HARD. Still not really sure what this guy was even talking about. Babbles something about formulas and then expects to you translate his nonsense into a research paper that is rarely mentioned, and vaguely assigned. The guy is a joke. Worst professor I have ever been around. Avoid at all costs
Prof Daigle is a nice guy, but he is the worst prof I've had at Mason. His lectures are hard to follow, even if you have prior experience in statistics (I did). He's okay at explaining the math but not how it applies to anything which is the important part. The Richey textbook is actually helpful if you take the time to read the important chapters.
Extremely hard, goes too fast. Don't understand why we do formulas by hand when it's a government class. Was government even talked about?or did he just use use government related examples. At least change the course title to statistics 300
He is a great professor teaching a hard class. The class is important for understanding and conducting high quality political science research, therefore it IS a government class. If you work instead of whine, you will develop the skills needed to power through the rest of your college career. Daigle is a great guy--don't believe the complainers.
Pretty terrible professor, class is only passable if you have good TAs (look for Mr. Hofeman). Probably would be a fun guy outside the classroom, though
His teaching was good. Problem is the course was too ambitious. Lectures were clear, he covered the info well. But with the sheer quantity of info of the class, I was learning things weeks after I needed to know them for my project. Readings, major assignments, midterm/finals, AND a massive semester project? I have high expectations, but brutal.
The Professor is nice, but simply put this class is hard especially if you haven't done math in a while. There is a stats program you have to learn SPSS, a paper, a midterm, a final, and homeworks that utilize spss. Go to office hours, work on hw way before they are due, and try to do well in the start so you can avoid the taking final. Good Luck!
Awful class. 4-5 homework assignments, 2 exams, and a term paper. Prof Daigle is a nice guy but not a good instructor. I have no doubt that he is a good researcher, however, you spend about a day on each topic learning the math and interpretations before moving on. Get a good TA. Look for Ms. Sweet or Mr. Hofeman. Be ready for a challenge!
Delton Daigle is a great professor. GOVT 300 is a good class. The class is only tough because of the bi/multivariate analyses after the midterm. The Ritchey textbook will help you understand the material. I learned a lot from the lectures. Read the text, attend lectures, do the practices and you'll pass. Good luck.
THIS CLASS IS NOT DIFFICULT. Dr. Daigle lectures clearly and effectively. You need to read the textbook to help grasp material. Attend class and follow directions, and you'll do well on all assignments. For the midterm you're allowed to use an 8x11 cheat sheet. Really not hard if you put the work in. Befriend the TAs because they grade everything.
Class is not hard. The T.A.s are super nice and work with you on your grades and assignments. Daigle let us have 8x11 cheat sheet in during the tests. Also if you make a higher grade on the final than the midterm that grade would replace the midterm grade.
You must attend the class and read a hefty amount in order to excel in this class. The class is difficult but Daigle is a good professor. There are 4 textbooks which are expensive but key to doing well in the course. An important concept is covered every class. Best advice: take the class when you have an easy semester workload.
He can be a bit patronizing and at times confusing, but he's not all that bad. The tests are a little challenging, but he lets you have a huge cheat sheet and posts old exams online and repeats some questions on the new ones. HW/the big paper isn't terrible either. Overall, nice guy and decent, but dry class.
You have to work really hard to fail this class. If you try your best he will pass you. His course is very ambitious, but hes a decent guy.
Really nice guy, but AWFUL CLASS. Should not be a mandatory class for Gov't majors. Formulas were poorly explained/covered, assignments handed back the week of the final. Only positive is he posts previous tests/answer keys that you can use on a cheat sheet. Overall, super difficult class that has nothing to do with gov't.
He didn't return papers until the last day before the final and we never used 3 of the 4 textbooks he requires us to get. This class should really be considered Statistics because it has nothing to do with Government or IT even though it's an IT gen ed. If possible take over the summer, much easier because it's compacted.
GOVT 300 is hard. Daigle is a great prof. You can't really skate by. You have to work hard from day 1 or you'll be hating life. Use your TA's, be humble and willing to accept that not everything in life is easy. Don't expect much mercy from Daigle. He will grade you according to what you do. Humble. Work.
Dr. Daigle is a very good professor.I took his class over the summer and was able to get a B+ with minimal work. You will be allowed to use a cheat sheet and will have access to previous exams.
THERE WILL BE MATH! The professor is nice and tries to clarify subject matter. Everyday you learn something new, so never miss a class. The class itself is hard, no matter the professor. Beware, you have to begin studying and staying on top of assignments from day one. This class teaches you how to make money as a political science major.
He's a nice guy, but keep in mind this is a tough course, probably the hardest I have ever taken. I call this the class from hell, its Gov't, mixed with Stats & Calc. If you do take it, don't take a heavy class load, this class requires a lot of attention. You should go to EVERY class, including lab- otherwise you will fall behind.
Daigle is a great guy. He's funny and fun to banter with. Never miss a class, you will regret it. The math is hard and it just keeps piling up. Not government related in the least, but that's the nature of the course.. Should be labeled as government statistics. The only good part is the cheat sheet which will help wonders on the exams.
confusing and rambling lectures. tried to avoid this class with this professor but had no choice to take it now. wish mason would get someone else!
Worst professor ever.
Dont take him he is a very hard grader and give too much work to do.
Nice guy but not a very good teacher. Requires way to much for the amount he teaches. Tests are disproportionately hard and homework is unhelpful.
This class is not an easy class to begin with. When you add the fact that it is all online and you have to try to watch these videos which were nearly impossible to understand. However, there were help sessions that really did help. The SPSS assignments are hard when you are not physically in a lab. Overall, the class is hard.
So far I am having a dejavu. This class is 90% STAT 250 class which I took 4 semesters ago. I already forgot a lot of that material, but if not that class , it would be impossible to understand what professor Daigle is talking about in his lecture videos. My advise - take those classes together, or take STAT 250 first, this will help you big time
This class is not bad, I have expected it to be much worse. And I'm very bad at math or stat. However, I got A-. The assignments are not that hard, it is just about the quantity of them - there is a lot, so be ready to work. Don't buy the books, everything is on BB. Good TA is important - I've had Hiromi - she was great. I took the class online.
Good class, but hard.
I loved Dr. Daigles class. Class is hard but you learn a LOT. His lectures and class set up are really clear and he does what he can to help students really understand the material. He holds 2 reviews per test and allows a page of notes during tests. Definitely utilize the TA's! Read the SPSS book if you can. Hard class but great professor!
I thought 319 would be different from 300, but only Daigle knows how to turn psychology class into statistics (group project). 20% of the grade is showing up to class and participating, easy enough. The long papers that are annoying. The lectures are meh, it's mostly just him performing psychological experiments on the class. Very disappointed.
Prof. Daigle is one of the best professors at GMU. The summer session is fast paced and you will spend hours on homework - this is a tough class . Put in the time and effort and you should do well even if you find stats difficult. My advise - take the summer class (in person) and use Daigle's youtube videos as supplement. And enjoy the banter eh!
He is a terrific professor who gets a bad rap for teaching a very hard class. He is good-natured, easy to get along with, and very understanding, but like any other professor, he is not a mind-reader. A word of advice: Ask for help often and be clear with where you are facing difficulty! His help can save your performance in the class.
The hardest class you will ever take. GOVT300 is simply complicated statistics. Professor Daigle is obviously a great scholar, but as a teacher he requires too much from his students.
This class is quite simply the hardest class required by the gov major and theres no way around it. Daigle is a super nice professor and he makes the most out of the subject he teaches, however kindness doesn't make this class any easier. Show up to lab, USE YOUR TA, & put in the (insane amount of) work and you can make it through with a B.
not much interaction with students. Tough class. GO TO REVIEW SESSIONS. They will save your grade. And stay on top of the work. It piles up. Austin the ta is super nice and helpful, don't be afraid to ask him for help.
This class is hard, no doubt about it. Daigle isn't a bad teacher, but he does basically nothing except lecture. The TAs do everything else, and they knock off points for the smallest, nit-picky things. Unfortunately this class is required for gov. majors but be prepared for a lot of work.
He is not that bad. If you pay attention and take notes, you will be fine. If you don't keep up with the work and are on your phone the whole time, you will be called out and you will not pass. He gives you a cheat sheet for the exam which is helpful. Also, if you don't do well on the midterm, your final exam grade will replace it. Nice guy.
One more thing. I bought the books but they werent really necesssary. The TAs teach you how to use the software. If in doubt look him up on youtube. He has all his formulas n solutions there. And once again.. GO TO THE REVIEWS! Usd the cheat sheet. I wrote formulas, even answers from previous exams he wants poliscient answers n the wording is there
Dr. Daigle's lectures are really helpful, but he doesn't use a mic so sit up front, and TAKE notes!! He posts all past midterms and exams on BB so you can practice beforehand, so don't buy the textbook. SPSS is fairly difficult, but he is REALLY helpful. 2 SPSS HW, 1 Lit Review, 1 Research proposal, 1 Final paper , midterm n final. Ask questions!!!
Overall it was a great class. Professor Daigle is great and he tries to help as much as he can. The assignments were not as hard as I was expecting. It's just a lot of them along with a lot new stuff to learn. I think it was the best and most beneficial class Ive taken. You will learn a lot !!!! Book wasn't really needed.
Do not take GOVT300 online if you can avoid it. This class is hard enough without lecture videos that are 3 years old and that do not correlate to the reading assignments. He does not make himself available outside of posted office hours; your best bet is going to the TA. Have your papers reviewed by the TA, and attend test review sessions.
This class was the most difficult thing I have ever taken. I heard the negative reviews but my God; it was as bad as they said. The one good thing about this course was the TAs. They made this thing doable; given the ridiculous amount of material covered. SPSS is really useful, but man the course is just too much.
The online version of this course generally has 20-30 minutes of instruction per week. Outside of that, you are expected to teach yourself the vast majority of the courses and utilize TAs (who were helpful). Exam reviews are very helpful and old exams are posted online. That being said, easily the worst professor I've had at Mason.
Mandatory for Gov majors to take this course, and he's the only professor who teaches it- so it's unavoidable. However, if for some reason you don't need to take this class... DON'T. Way too difficult! 1 ethics paper, 2 SPSS (hell) assignments, Research Proposal, Lit Review, Final Research Paper, Midterm & Final. GOOD LUCK. TA's are very helpful!!
There was over 100 students and a lot of material to cover. You do not get the same relationship and opportunity in class that you become accustomed to at Mason. Its a bad setting for such a technical class and Mason needs to address it. I never went to the Lab and rarely went to class but there was enough online material for me to review to pass.
With the heavy use of Statistics in this course, it should not be a course that has a capacity of 100+ students. The Statistics material is not gone over thoroughly. The amount of content given on the mid-term, 1hr 45min is not an adequate amount of time for completion. Lecture and labs should be two entirely different courses.
As an online course, we only meet 3 times a semester, he came to ONE of those times. The class is mandatory for GOVT majors which sucks. TAKE STAT 250 FIRST. It will save your life because everything from this class is learned in statistics, and better taught there as well. The work has few comments that often don't make sense. GO TO OFFICE HOURS
Follow the guidelines and the samples pretty closely. My TA was actually more strict than he was and I had him re-grade my final paper himself and I went from a C- to B+. I didn't open any of the books ever. Don't buy them they're a waste. Go to the study sessions. Make sure you give plenty of time to learn the statistics. Hardest class Ive taken
If you took AP Stat in high school and did well (I got a 4 on exam)... this class is easy. Just get an 85 or above on midterm and you don't have to take the final or go to class past the midterm. Don't buy books I didn't use them.
I kept delaying taking the mandatory Govt 300 class up until my last semester prior to graduation because of all the scary things I heard about this class. Not gonna lie, one of the hardest classes ever took, but very doable if you put in the effort. Daigle does his best to make the class easier whether it's online or F2F. One of my FAV professors.
Just go to class and lab, and make sure to really pay attention to class and take notes and you'll do fine. TAKE STAT 250 before you take this course!! The TA's are really helpful and a great resource. Professor Daigle can go a little fast, but he'll slow down and reexplain if you ask him to. He doesn't post power points or notes online.
Online class is manageable if you study a little. Concepts seem hard but he posts old tests that you can use as practice. Show up to lecture if you need additional help. SPSS assignments are nerve racking but manageable. Work on it for 2 days and you'll get a B. Start them early so you can ask the TA questions, if any.
Great teacher that has a bad wrap due to the amount of statistical material that is covered. I thoroughly enjoyed the class and becoming proficient in SPSS, which is a great tool to have knowledge in. If you study the past exams go to class and follow the instructions on the projects you will be fine. The lab did not seem necessary to me.
His class was very difficult, there's no getting around that. Despite this, Daigle has easily been my best professor so far. While you have to work very hard to do well in his class, he makes you want to succeed, and lets you know exactly how to do so. There are very few assignments throughout the class, so make sure you do well on all of them.
I was hoping to get more out of the course. As a lecturer Daigle kinda lacked in captivating the class and always ran random experiments. Also assignments are papers including a final research paper and class participation is 20% of your grade. He never gave assignments back on time and I always had trouble getting a response from him via email.
Tough class but not impossible. Great teacher, but the math makes everything very tedious. Go the the exam review sessions, they are VERY VERY helpful. Study his old exams because many of his questions will have a similar format. He gives a lot partial credit on questions as long as you write out the formula and try. Didn't open either book once!
hard class but not impossible. 1 midterm 2 spss projects and a final. if you do well enough on the midterm and projects you can write a research paper instead. the textbooks are useless i learned more from youtube. i got a C in the first project and failed the midterm and still ended up getting a B+ this class is a lot of work many hours studying.
Dr. Daigle is easily one of the best professors at Mason. He puts up full versions of past exams that are nearly identical to the current exams. Do all of the practice exams, put problems from them on your cheat sheet, and you will ace the tests. His YouTube lecture videos give you everything you need to ace the SPSS assignments and midterm/final.
Govt 300 was fine. Statistics classes require self-discipline- to do well you need to practice the material a lot and then it becomes intuitive. He does a good job simplifying the material and gives you a lot of resources to study from. I took the option to write a paper. Though it was stressful, it came really handy with job apps and interviews
I love Professor Daigle. Political Psychology seemed like a more difficult class to take but he made it fun and interactive for students to understand. You have to go to class every day or you will lose participation points and your grade will drop. He makes the class worth it and really cares about his students.
Daigle is a solid professor, he knows his stuff. His class requires some work, be prepared. He is entertaining, but I also get the feel he thinks he is smarter than everyone. If you are a GOV major, I recommend him.
Every class is basically another experiment. I never took notes because there was never a need. All of the grades are participation and papers (there are no tests). The books came in handy when writing the papers, but I never read them otherwise. He's a good professor and really knows his stuff.
Dr. Daigle is unfairly graded on this site. The course has been changed by the dept. and is much easier now that the paper has been dropped. Go to labs, put in the work on the SPSS homework and get a 80+ on the midterm. You'll be fine. I did what I described and got a 30% on the final. I knew it was all I needed to get the C I needed in the class.
If you skip class you will lose participation points and your grade will drop. You're graded on 2 papers that are relatively short, an 8-10 page term paper, and a group assignment. Daigle makes this class very interesting and enjoyable.
Daigle deserves a much better rating than what he has. He is a very caring professor, but its not an easy A. Show up to class, take notes, and go to lab. If you dont understand something, go to office ours or use the videos on youtube. Professor Daigle made this class bearable for me and is very encouraging. He definitely prepares you for 400+!
Daigle is really underrated on this website, he is really knowledgeable and an understandable person. All you have to do is to study well on the Midterm, which is really easy and to go to the labs to get above 85% or more on Both SPSS assignments. And you would do the paper instead of the Final and that's what I did.
This class is VERY easy as long as you PUT in the work. Use your resources, get above an 85% on both SPSS assignments and the midterm, and you become exempt from the Final. Instead of the final you get to write a Data Analysis Paper which is very useful in the long run. If you don't show up, you WILL fail. Daigle is very helpful, as long as you ask
Professor Daigle is an excellent professor and tries to engage you. Each class is loaded with information, and you risk failing if you blow it off or skip. It was clear that in our class the people who skipped or did not do the reading/work did awful. Those who came and paid attention, asked questions, did quite well getting a B or higher.
Having tried Govt300 with another professor, Daigles ability to make statistics manageable for liberal arts students is clear. Go to every class, do every single practice exam in preparation for the midterm, go to open lab for the SPSS assignments, and you can write an essay instead of the final and get a good grade in the class.
Daigle is a little unnerving at first. He grades papers a little rough and it's hard to tell how you should improve to his standards. He's super knowledgeable about the topic though, and he encourages participation. I found the subject interesting, maybe not so much the class itself. No tests, just a group project and a few papers
When I signed up for this class I was so nervous but he did a great job teaching (separate lab teacher was poor). This is not an easy class at all. You need to study, focus and show up to every class. He made this class understandable and is a cool professor. Work hard. 2 exams (30% each) two papers (15% each) mandatory lab attendances!
I would definitely disagree with most of the negative ratings that are on here. Just watch the videos and do the practice exams and you will get the grade you want. This course DOES require you to do work, but it is definitely possible to get an A. The professor and TA are very accessible so if you're confused about something, go visit them!
best professor for GOVT 300. They made the class significantly easier, and Daigle has been teaching it for years. He and the TA both provide so many opportunities to get an A. If you took AP stat/STAT250, you'll do really well in the class! I skipped a few lectures but always went to lab. Lectures were somewhat enjoyable. take Daigle!!!
This is a wonderful class, but be warned, this is 100% a stats course. If you pay attention, and/or take statistics you should do just fine. If not, this course can be a challenge, but if you work hard you can do it. This course is worth it, do not be disheartened because it is difficult. Ask the TA questions, email the professor, and you'll be ok.
Good professor, you have two SPSS assignments, which aren't hard if you start early. Then there is a midterm and a final, but if you score high enough on the SPSS and midterm you can write a paper for the final instead. He posts old exams which are extremely helpful. SPSS is the easiest stat computer program! This whole class is statistics!
Great person, his lectures are a lot of fun. The only problem I had with his class is that he wasn't clear on what he wanted out of the papers and he was too harsh with them. He also took a month to give the paper back so I didn't know what grade I had for the first half of the class. The class is 20% participation, 3 papers, and 1 group paper
I loved the class because of the content, not because of Daigle. I found him to be highly unapproachable when trying to explore outside opportunities that he mentioned to the class. He is a good professor and he definitely acts like he knows that. With that being said, the class is difficult but provides a lot of good skills for the future.
TAKE 300 WITH DAIGLE. I waited several semesters to take 300 because math scares me but Daigle made this experience much easier than I thought it would be. He structures the class in a way that helps you get the best grade. One tip is to take Scott as a lab if available. He has a better grasp on the material. Also go to Daigle's office hours!!!!
I was worried going into this class and how I would do. However, Dr.D really takes the time to make sure you understand the content and will be there if you have any confusion. The rest is up to you to put the extra work in. This is not an easy A class & you must work for it. It has two Spss assignments & a midterm and a final.
TAKE 300 WITH DAIGLE. I was terrified to take this class because I am not good at math. I worked hard in class and now I have an A and am just waiting for the final. there is a midterm, final and 2 SPPS assig. I suggest watching his lecture videos in addition to going to class and go to tutoring. He has sample midterms and finals on BB it helps!
He is unapproachable, unhelpful, and not at all instrumental, especially on your bad days (If you get sick, for example). His mode of exam conduction is pretty old school. I dont recommend taking a class with him at all.
Daigle is a smart guy and knows what he's talking about. Pay attention during lectures and take notes-- you won't have to study. Only grades are SPSS 1 and 2, midterm, and final. If you have over an 85, you can write a paper instead of taking the final. It's an easy A if you show up and try a little. Love him, very accommodating, smart, and chill.
If you show you're diligent, he's accommodating (if you're sick, etc.) and kind. Otherwise, he knows how to communicate his knowledge on the subject well. Practice for exams w/ previous ones! They're the same format and the MC are the same. SPSS assignments are good practice of the math and esp of the conclusions for stats analysis. Loved Dr. D!
Gov300 in general is a more difficult class, so any difficulty I had was with the material itself, not the way it was being taught. If you show up, truly try, and ask questions, you will do fine. Start spss assignments early. the midterm and final will become so easy if you just do yourself the favor as using old midterms as a way of studying.
He is the best GOVT300 prof at GMU. His lectures are informative and he explains difficult topics well. The labs are great if you have a good TA. Make sure to study for the midterm so you can write a paper instead of taking the final. He can seem unapproachable at first but he's just kinda awkward so do not feel intimidated to ask questions
As mentioned by a ton of people: this professor is unapproachable and puts down students for asking questions. Expectations are as a high as a Harvard admissions officer. The TA on the other hand is an angel who taught the material better in an hour! super responsive and helpful
He was an okay professor. He isn't approachable when trying to ask for help. The class material itself is very difficult. Make sure to be on top of the material. TA was amazing. To be honest, the TA taught better than the professor. Overall not the best but also not the worst.
The lecture videos he posts online are the bulk of what you need to know. The SPSS assignments are long but space them out. The mid-term was kind've challenging but I just studied the old ones. I just wrote the paper for the final so I can't speak on the final exam. ps: don't buy the textbook tbh
Mistakenly bought textbooks at the beginning of the semester, never used them. Weekly videos are helpful, not necessary. Lectures really boring, but incredibly important he goes through everything in them. He walked us through problems step by step. Previous exams very helpful. Not sure how accessible he is outside of class, TA was amazing.
I truly thought this professor was an absolute menace at first and was panicking because I thought I was going to fail this class because of how difficult math is for me. Turns out this guy has no intentions of failing anyone as long as you put in a good faith effort as he understands how difficult this class can be for government majors.
Focus on the hw videos and IBM SPSS Comp. text to help with SPSS - he goes over info in class, so don't bother w/ the 50+ pgs of reading per week. Math is simple if you practice and pay attention in class - he does examples. SPSS is kinda easy but just takes time. Most important is to practice old exams he posts and utilize the IBM SPSS text.
Professor Daigle was okay, but definitely not the best professor you could pick for this class. He is not flexible which is frustrating especially if you have a lot going on in your life. Personally, I would not take a class with him again because he is a tough teacher and grader. Focus on SPSS assignments and study hard for the exams!
Prof Daigle has been one of my favorite professors at Mason. I'm super bad at math so when he said there was going to be math in the course I was worried I wouldn't understand it, but he would explain it so well and clearly. There are only 2 main assignments, a midterm, and a final for the whole semester. If you go to class, you will pass.
There are only 2 SPSS assignments, a midterm, and a final. Discussion boards/ attending labs are extra credit. The math in this class is not as bad as I was expecting, the old exams are a great resource to use when studying. Professor Daigle is nice and explains the math well, but he gave us an assignment the week of midterms due 2 days after break
Professor Daigle is a great person and professor. The only thing that sucks is that GOVT 300 is the worst class I've ever taken. It is not Professor Daigle's fault, but this class is not necessary for anything and made me struggle more than in 15 years of schooling. Again nothing against Prof. Daigle, but GOVT 300 is an awful course.
Fantastic professor, extremely clear with what he expects from his students, and phenomenal support if you need the help. As long as you pay attention and stay engaged in class (which he makes super easy) you will do fine in his class.
Excellent teacher, deep understanding of subject matter, goes above and beyond to help students. Lots of material on the exams, but it's very doable as long as you keep up with the material and go to the open labs. He also give thorough review before exams. If you want to learn the fundamentals of research in the social sciences, take this class.
I had Professor Daigle for Govt 300, and having the class asynchronous was my first mistake. Although Delton seems like a lovely professor in person, but the class was made up of old lecture videos and confusing textbook readings. I would recommend only watching the videos, and I beg you take it right after/during statistics! That's what Gov300 is.
Do not wait until the last minute to do the SPSS assignments because it will suck. This class has a few assignments, but they are time-consuming. Attend the online labs especially before the exams because he does helpful review sessions. If you get approved for the final paper start as soon as possible because its long but he is an easy grader.
If you have to take GOV300, take it with Professor Daigle. Very few assignments in the course, and if you are doing well in the course you are eligible to write a paper for the final. Attend weekly zoom sessions, they are helpful. Take thorough notes, ask questions, go to office hours, and go to review sessions, they are very helpful.
Professor Daigle is knowledgeable, but can be unapproachable. The class is challenging, with lots of material on exams. Make use of unstuck study, old exams, and the helpful TA to succeed. Attendance is a must.
Terrible professor. Constant power trip, high ego, and zero support. Assigns difficult work with no explanation. Few assignments that make up majority of your grade, and he provides no guidance. TA is useless and never responds. Don't take him unless you want to teach yourself the entire class and find everything on your own.
Okay everyone was warning me about this class and making me dread it, I was able to get an A, and all you have to do is apply yourself. That is it. I am convinced that all of the people who complained put in minimal effort. He is an easy grader and gives practice exams and allows a cheat sheet, come on y'all!! (make sure you take stats before)
Prof. Daigle is engaging and clearly wants students to succeed; he offers plenty of ways to review (e.g. videos on Canvas are available to review lecture content, old exams are online for practice) and lets you use a page of notes for exams. This course has a lot of math, but it's mainly just applying the formulas and working them out methodically.
