He is exceptionally rude and confrontational. His lectures just follow the book and his examples are often wrong. Though he may know the material, he is terrible at teaching it.
6 Quizes and one speech is where all your points come from. All he does is read his Power Point slides and thats the class.
I have learned nothing with him. Boring, just reads his slides, word by word from the book. Therefore, do not buy book! Very bad grader. Presentation was worth 100 points, however, nobody got it, most people got 93!!!!
A colossal waste of tuition dollars.
Class is usually boring, but he does his best to make it interesting, considering the material is very dry. Do not buy the book, because he puts everything you need to know on PP slides. Quizes are fairly easy if you go over the PP slides. No final.

Do not take this guy.
OMG! do NOT, and I really mean, DO NOOOT TAKE THIS GUY! He is very ignorant. He thinks he is all that, but he can't teach anything! He is very vague with instructions, and you will never be good enough. If u kiss up to him though, he won't be as rude! If you like urself a lil, DO NOT TAKE HIM!
He fails to create an inviting and encouraging atmosphere for learning instead he creates an atmosphere of intimidation and discouragement. By strategically pointing out your lack of study habits (which in fact you KNOW you study for this class and only this class)
This guy is as evil as they come. At first he seemed ok, but then his devilness came out. He points out students flaws, ridicules them, makes them feel like crap, and then he complains some more. He does more complaining than the students! He is so arogant, cocky, and stubborn its ridiculous. His he
He's a TOTAL A~~. He writes demeaning things about you, not your work on your homework and hands it back to you, he throws your homework down. I really think he's on some type of drugs, he moves around a lot and his eyes are red all the time. I WOULD NOT take him again.
This guy is on drugs. You dont understand what he is teaching, very unclear about everything. He is really anal, rude things students are POS, and he is the BOSS.I have no clue how the hell he is a department head for MIS,DePaul need to watch out for this person.Plese change your major, but dont take hi
This guy is unreasonable. He doesn't know how to teach cuz he can't listen, explain, nor grade. He will make personal attacks by criticizing your work and reflecting it onto you. The worst part of is that when you're done with the class you will walk away never knowing the right answers.
Worst teacher I ever had
WHAT ARE YOU IDIOTS TALKING ABOUT??? Prof. Grant is great. He knows VERY well what he's teaching and makes the subject very easy and understandable. He's extremely intelligent and quite funny...makes 3 hours go by fast. Great prof.

Grant expects students to work hard, but the material is extremely easy. Having never taken an MIS course, I took two of his classes at once and did well in a class of students that are all MIS majors. He's very personable and willing to work with students that have trouble with the material or the course in general.
He is a hard grader, and expects alot from his students. His lectures are OK, but not too clear. Just read the text carefully and remember the diagrams for this class.
Worst professor I've ever had (including undergrad). His grading is only hard because it is unpredictable. His lectures do not supplement the book, they ARE the book - and the book is horrible. His examples are terrible, and many times he contradicts the text. Glad it is over.
Terrible Professor! Tough grader who does not explain anything. His group project sucked! You have to study hard to do well on the quizzes.
He knows what he is talking about.
I feel really sorry for this guy. He forces students to read his outdated papers, does not give class, does not explain how he will grade you, does not explain the diagrams, totally useless. What a waste of my money and education.
I don't understand why there are so many negative comments here. This class was definitely not easy and required a LOT of work. But that doesnt mean Dr. Grant is a bad professor. He explains the material very well, and if you ask questions and show interest he will be glad to help you out. Just pay attention in class and read the book.
This professor does NOT know how to teach. He criticizes everything and anything especially on your homework. He is a VERY TOUGH grader!!! You think that you did a great job on your assignments. Guess again when he grades them he thinks that you didnt care about the assignment and that you a plain lazy when working on them. Avoid him if you can!!!
This guy's teaching style, in terms of weather is a hailstorm.....just atrocious! Okay, I must say that this clown does know his field, but his inability to teach, along with his 'higher-than-thou' sissy'tude makes his class unbearable. AVOID....I don't think he'll be here long...depends on student ratings....BLAH!
Not as horrible as everyone makes him sound. Yes he is a tough professor who is going to make you work. Put a lot of time into your homework. If you are confused ask questions, he often isn't very clear.
He's unclear what he wants for the homework and project. He expects too much from students and doesn't let the students know his expectations. Unhelpful & hard grader. Instead of letting u know what is the right answer, he will give u clues. Exam I & II don't just study what he lectures. Read the book. This class is disappointing & painful.
Slackers Beware! Dr Grant's class prepares you for the REAL WORLD. He gives no answers, just direction... just like you would get from your boss or peers at work, thus you have to draw on your analytical skills. His class was interesting and challenging. He uses the text and is very helpful when you ask for it! Very honest in remarks, nice smile.
I really liked this class. All assignments and subjects discussed are relevent now! Take note on his way of design... it will make sense later when you apply it. Read the text carefully and discuss. Our class found discrepancies with the text and Dr Grant's preference. Get clarification early because there is only one test given. Good class.
Dr. Grant is a terrific professor who knows his stuff. In my opinion, this class is not for people who do not like challenges. Those who complain are not mature enough to for this class. The homework can become a handful but just read the book carefully.
Dr. G is the bomb diggity. If you don't like to work or learn, then don't bother taking this class. Dr. Grant challenges you to apply concepts to real world excercises. He's incredibly fun and keeps things loose while getting a lot of work done. People who complain about Dr. Grant are lazy and unmotivated, and probably shouldn't be in college.
Wow, this guy is exactly what everbody's been saying on this site. This man is on a ego trip every class.Just because you yell and scream unintelligible sounds do not mean you are passionate. Likes to confuse students thinking that it is for their own good and it will help in the real world, while you end up with a c- with no explanation of why.
!!!!The WORST Professor!!!!! The only person who could get an A in his class is himself. He grades based on what he would do not what is asked or what is right. He criticizes students when they are having trouble or ask questions. Trust me, I am a full life cycle software developer and do this stuff for a living. Until this class I had a 4.0 GPA.
zzzzzzzzzz
Believe me in saying that Professor Grant's class is hard as nails. Don't expect an easy grade at all if you're looking for something easy. If you're willing to do the work (seriously, 6-8 hours a week) and pay attention in class, you will get a LOT out of this class. He will make you think and work for your grade, but you'll be better for it.
If you ant the honest truth here it is: This guy is terrible professor; take the advice or not but, these words will come back to haunt you if you avoid them "I told you so!" I only wish there was another professor available but I needed the class. I have trusted this site and given unbiased opinions my entire Graduate term; Lesson 1 don't take him
A incredible waste of time and money; not sure I can say much more. The guy is arrogant, believes he is brilliant, conducts class right from the book but contridicts it constantly, and like was mentioned is extremely subjective.
Oh my god. There are professors who really know how to teach and who really know how to handle the students by giving some hard time. But this professor was USELESS. He thinks he is smart, he thinks he is hot, he thinks he is very knowledgable professor. BUT HE's NOT. I could've learned a lot if I just read the book instead of sitting in that class
Just took a midterm supposed to be on chapters 1 thru 8. It was on chapters 1 thru 9. 40% of the midterm was based upon homework that was not graded or handed back to us. This is a complete waste of money. I took this class to learn something, and all I have learned is that he does not care about teaching or you actually learning.
He is by far the worst proessor I have ever taken at DePaul. He will not help you if you go to him for help. He will tell you to read the book. He goes back on his word. He can not even give real life examples when asked. I changed my major because of him. Makes racial comments in class to students, and he is black himself...
Worst professor in the history of DePaul University. I can not believe I received such a grade when I worked off my butt. He does NOT know how to teach. Unfortunately, if you are a MIS major, you have to take him for this and MIS 370. He only teaches night classes, plus, he does a weird "macarena" dance which is totally weird.
Absolutely outrageous instructor. Incompetent in all possible aspects. Teaching consists of reading from a powerpoint. His assignment directions are incomprehensible, careless, error-filled, hastily made nonsense. Disgraceful is probably the best word to describe his overall philosophy.
Very knowledgeable and a fair grader. Sometimes the assignments can be unclear, but if you point out what was unclear, he will understand and may even give you credit. Likes things done his way, good practice for dealing with bosses for those w/o work experience. A UML on Visio manual would be a good suppl. ref. Learned a lot, be prepared to work
He must be the overflow teacher for the graduate level. His lectures, examples and most test questions are straight out of the book, which must be read completely, really dull reading. He brings no creativity or real life examples to his lectures. Pay attention in class, read the entire book, take notes as you read and you'll do fine on the tests.
Why did i take this class? I had no choice. He is so vague about what he wants from us, which gets everyone confused. He insists that the trouble we go through is an integral part of our learning experience. "No pain, no gain" More like: No teach, no learn. READ, STUDY, READ. I would've prob learned more by reading through his lecture. NO BUENO
If you're an MIS or E-Commerce major, you must go through Dr. G. He's vague when describing assignments. He only reinforces concepts that you have to study; he doesnt teach them. He refers you to the book if you have a question. You MUST read EVERYTHING he tells you too. That being said, Im I had him as a professor. Passing his class is gratifying.
Dr. G is that “one” teacher everyone hates. He is required for MIS major.Sorry but expect the worst experience of your college career. I got a B, but I understood some of this before the class. Find the Quiz guide(find online) for midterm & Final. If DePaul finally gives you another option TAKE IT, don’t take him at all! God have mercy on you.....
Dr. G was the worst professor I have had at Depaul. His teaching style is to tell you to just read the book when you have a question. I dreaded going to this class every week but it was gratifying to finish it. Good luck...
Dr. G is a very tough professor. He does know what he is talking about however you do need to read everything he tells you to that being said you also need to understand it. I would recommend getting a couple people to study with. I would only recommend taking two additional classes it requires ALOT of study time!!!!
As already stated, guy has zero interest in his students' success. Teaches at a ugrad level and is shocked when the class is confused. Part of grade includes clicker questions, which are based off of material learned 2 minutes previously and points are awarded only if you get question right. Grant is just plain awful. Avoid at all costs
Dr. G is an awesome professor! He truly prepares you for the workplace. He makes you work for everything in his classes, which scares some students. I was extremely satisfied with what I learned in his classes; it is safe to say that I've learned more in his classes than the entire academic year at DePaul. Highly recommended!
Dr. G is an awesome professor!! He is tough but fair. The class is very enjoyable. Make sure to read the chapter. READ the syllabus, and make sure to turn in the correct hw. His class forces you to have a good work ethic but, at the end of the day, you'll be a better student for it. One of the best professors I've taken at my 4 yrs at Depaul.
This course is not that hard but he will try to make it seem that way so you will become the most obedient working class blue collar worker when you get out into the real world. This class is not about discipline and hard work but more about building tolerance for unfair grading and obedience. STAY FAR AWAY but you can't if you could everyone would
There is a Mid-Term, final, final project and couple hws. He is clear on what he wants "keep it simple and stupid" and you get A. You will need to work for it though. Many if not all students find him hard but he actually cares about what you learn in class. He pulls jokes during class and try not to skip class.
Good for learning about systems analysis and design. Not good for someone wanting an A grade. That's because the grading is subjective, the assignments are high risk because no feedback until you've turned in the homework and many exam questions worded in a trick way. Dr. G seems to care about the subject and making students work very hard.
So Dr. Grant is a tough grader, has tough tests, and a few tough HW assignments. Definitely not something I would choose to take if given a choice, however I can honestly say I worked hard for my grade. You have to read the chapters and attend all lectures. He gives you a bunch of practice on diagrams and doesn't just give away answers. Work hard!
Grant is the reason I changed from my MIS major. He is the only professor that teaches not one, but two required MIS courses at DePaul... and he is NOT an easy grader. Prepare for him to ruin your GPA. He thinks his class is the most important thing you're taking, you're going to spend all Saturday studying, and the textbook is holy.
Dr. G is one of those professors whom you'll absolutely hate if you are a lazy student and absolutely love if you are not. His classes are the hardest at DePaul but are the only classes I have thoroughly enjoyed. Study hard, go see him whenever you can, and get ready to actually learn stuff. Oh also don't take both his classes in the same quarter!
Dr. G is a fair grader, but a tough grader. You HAVE to work for your grade; no slacking. Going to his office hours helps a lot, but try to go with specific questions. If you put in the effort you will do well.
Amazing professor. Yes, it is a tough class but that's because he cares about his students and wants you to succeed!! Work hard, come to class, take notes and you'll do fine! :-)
I am 3.95 GPA student. I work hard for my grades and am an executive in a mid size company. Midterms questions out of the book. 60 questions from 240 pages. Tricky questions that require reading 2, 3 times. only 5-8 questions from the material he covered in class. I paid 4k to hear "read the book"? I ran out of time on the midterm drawing diagrams.
Well you got to take him, I would do it sooner than later. Its a lot of work and not easy.
He's a tough professor no doubt. But.. if you pay attention in class and really try, you will do really well. He's almost like a military general.. harsh grading and expectations that you go above and beyond. But let me tell you.. if you take advantage of this guy.. you will go far in life. Keep doing your thing DR. G. Have a drink to this.
If you don't do well in this class, you're not trying hard enough. He gives you everything you need to succeed. I got a B+ because my group sucked and they ruined my grade a little.
He is the worst professor i have ever taken. He just gives grades the way he wants and to whosoever he pleases.
Calls on everyone throughout the lecture to make sure you know the material. READ & understand or it will be hard. Very vague direction with assignments. 2 Group Projects. 3 HW Diagrams. 1 online quiz. 2 Tests (midterm & final). He cares about students learning the material but doesn't care about other factors in their lives outside of class.
Only has office hours the day of class so it's too late to ask questions on homework because it is due that day. Takes forever to respond to emails and if he does they're very vague. Doesn't really tell you how to do homework assignment until you turn it in. Teaches very little of the material, basically have to teach yourself.
Dr G is probably the hardest teacher you'll ever take but the best if you are willing to work and be active at office hours! You will have to read the book (many times). If you do not do this from the beginning you will fall behind quickly. Make a great study group in the class. Also try not to take 360 and 370 together like I did.
Confusing lectures that turn easy concepts into difficult ones. Does not grade based on the right answer, but rather his interpretation of how much you studied. An agressive attitude that is not conducive to learning or creativity. Unfortunately there is no choice, the MIS program is run primarily through Dr. G.
Youll get all the frustration without any academic quality. Likes to trick students on homework and tests. Be prepared for ambiguous feedback and little to no actual helpful information. There is no choice; buckle up and survive.
No doubt, he is a tough professor, but you learn a lot from him, i am glad he is teaching MIS.
Dr. G is a great teacher, he gives a total of 3 HW, 2 tsts, 1 qz and a grp project so evry pt is important. Make sure you hold your grp members accountable as the project is intense. Studying for his tests are hard as his questions can be cryptic. He does alot to prepare you for the work world, including bringing in former students for job resrcs.
Dr. Grant is an Amazing professor. He will set you up for success. Everyone in the comments hating are either dumb or don't like to work hard. He will fill you with knowledge and wisdom. TAKE HIM if you want to have a great successful career in MIS, with plentiful opportunities and growth in your professional development. HAVE A DRINK TO THIS DR.G
Dr.G is a Great professor, he is willing to help you no matter what just ask him to. Show up to class, read chapters, and do the HW on time. Tough professor, but you learn a lot in his classes! Would definitely take a class with him again.
Take the guy during the Winter quarter instead of Dr.G. If I had known someone else taught this class I'd have not taken him. The stuff you learn in this classes is super outdated doesn't teach new stuff at all. He makes exams super hard for no reason. Nobody uses Visio in the real world. MIS program needs an strong update maybe have more professor
The tests are based off of previous years textbook so beware that he will tell you to study for the wrong chapters. Many of the homework examples are similar to what tests will be. Keep you head down, do the work and try to not challenge him, its the only way to survive in his class. Get a good group of people to do homework with also.
Necessary evil. He's the only guy teaching MIS 360 and MIS 370. Honestly if you haven't taken a lot of MIS classes yet you might consider switching to a different major.
Very bad experience
Dr. G is solid. He doesn't just spoon feed you the material like a lot of other teachers do. Was lucky enough to take Database with him in the summer, with a small group. Lots of instances of him rolling his sleeves up and helping us through tough material. Gonna take a cue from the poster below and say HAVE A DRINK TO THIS DR. G!
Takes points off if you miss class. You are graded on 2 assignments, 1 group project, and final. Dr. G uses software that may have been helpful in the 1900's. Aside from his heavy accent, his lectures are very unclear, and provides poor feedback. This was my first class for MIS and he made me consider dropping the major. Do better DePaul..
Unfortunately if you are a MIS major you are stuck with him for MIS 360 and MIS 370 because he is the only professor that teaches both of these classes. He is a very tough grader, and his feedback is not very helpful. Best advice I can give is buckle up.
Amazing professor. Taking this class will make you a better person. As a professor, Dr. G is challenging but fair. He pushes you so that when you go into the working world, youll have the tools you need to succeed. The class is not an easy A, but you will be rewarded for putting in the time and effort into your work. Have a drink to this, Dr. G!
Dr. G is a cool guy, but his grading criteria is picky and vague. To succeed in this class, study the material, watch the lecture videos, work with other students on HW, and ALWAYS ask him for feedback/clarification. We had 3 quizzes, 2 project-related assignments, and a group project. Also, don't take MIS 360 & MIS 370 together unless necessary.
Dr. G knows his stuff, but his criteria is vague. Study the material, watch the lecture videos, work with others on HW, and ALWAYS ask him for feedback/clarification. We had 2 quizzes, 3 HW assignments, and a project (groups of 1 or 2). Also, don't take MIS 360 & MIS 370 together unless necessary. He made the final exams optional for both classes.
Dr. G was nice but extremely condescending at times. He did not explain any of the material and you really had to spend hours trying to figure out what he wants. ASK QUESTIONS!!! He will answer and help and make sure he knows you are really trying. The final is optional. Good luck
At first, you might hate Dr. G - he's making you use every single cell left in your brain. Criteria are vague, he is not giving you the rubric and expects you to ask questions. I think Dr. G mirrors the professional world. Once you're a business analyst, you have to use your thinking skills and Dr. G prepares you for that.
Dr. Grant is not a good professor. Still confused how he still works at DePaul. Quizzes were so difficult and there was no clear grading criteria for anything. He was the worst. Good luck.
does not teach and expects you to fully understand the material! do not take, but then again depaul doesn't offer any other teachers. Good luck!
Dr. G has high, but not at all unreasonable, expectations. He wont give you an A on assignments just for turning things in on time, but you will earn an A if you show that youre bringing together all the concepts & frameworks for proper database design as demonstrated in the lectures/ book. If you do that, youll find the class to be straightforward
Professor G. Has expectations that are equivalent to the real field of MIS. The subject is by its nature detail heavy and requires sensationally clear logical thinking. Basically, if you are going to take this class you must put in all the effort.
Honestly not as bad and scary as the past reviews have made him. You'll spend most of the class trying to figure out what he wants. Make sure to listen to key details when it comes to diagrams and what he expects. Use the examples he provides. One of the few classes at DePaul that actually feels like a college level class in terms of difficulty.
These are probably the most invaluable and inspirational learning experiences I've had at DePaul! Dr. G genuinely cares about his students. He makes you work for it, but it gives you the knowledge and skills that last and sets you up for success no matter where you decide to go. Don't be intimidated, do your work, ask questions, and you'll be fine!
This class is not a walk in the park. Do the reading and watch the lecture before class. Final is optional but it will impact your grade if you do poorly on it. Dr G provides thorough feedback on submitted assignments.
Listen to the lectures prior to the class. You will use your book for homework assignments and he does refer to it during class. Gives thorough feedback on the assignments. One final project that you can do on your own or with a partner. Overall great experience, I was worried based on the reviews here.
If in person, take it. In person he writes on the board & you're forced to actually listen. Take notes for hw! He prefers notes info over textbook info. Have friends in the class. Start hw early to ask questions. Find textbooks online don't pay for them. He can be very condescending but don't let that get to you.
Worst experience of my life in a classroom. Everything negative people have said is absolutly true. Positive reviews are him or people his "teaching" style somehow works for. Every quarter on the deans list and invited to apply for honors classes but somehow in his class I am struggling just to pass.
My experience with Dr. G was exceptional. He's an outstanding educator with an engaging teaching style, simplifying complex concepts. Assignments were super easy, and he's always available for support. Don't listen to old reviews; I'll miss the class!
Professor Grant is very knowledgeable and is willing to help his students wherever he can. Although the class is only graded on a few things (and if you don't do well on the first assignment it may be tough to come back) he provides great feedback. This class truly felt like a college level class and I feel accomplished having completed it. Take it
This professor made an error on a project. When I pointed it out he scoffed until i proved it in front of the class. He was so offended at being publically proven wrong he dropped my entire course grade from the A i earned to a C. Completely unethical ego and ego driven.
Completed unethical and ego driven. Dropped my class grade from the A i earned to a C for proving him wrong in front of the class.
Take this course if you're serious about learning, not just chasing an easy A. Dr. G prepares you for the real world, where success isn't handed out easily. If you avoid the work but want real-world readiness, this class will be a reality check. Demonstrate improvement and understanding, and you'll earn a good grade.
Assignments and grading materials are so unclear. This professor purposefully makes things difficult for his students because he thinks that's what makes him a great professor, when really he lacks appropriate communication/social skills, and is too personally involved with himself. Great Professors help their students and you wont find that here.
Professor Grant is extremely unclear about his expectations, then dismisses you when you ask questions. He expects 10 hours of just studying outside of lectures. His quizzes are extremely difficult and include things we did not learn in his lectures. He loves trick questions! Do not take him if you have the option.
He is a horrible and egotistical professor who is very unclear about his expectations as well as he is a very harsh grader. Quizzes are nothing like his lectures and he won't be afraid to humiliate you in front of the whole class just to prove himself right. Avoid at all costs. He should not be a professor at any institution
Feeling conflicted. It was a difficult class. He has high expectations. But I learned the most in this class. It answered my many questions about databases prior to the class. You will do well if you pay attention, attend every lecture, ask questions, listen carefully, and engage during the lectures. His teaching style may not be for most people.
Doesn't care about the students takes everything personal
Graduated in 2022 with a B in MIS360, B+ in MIS370. Have worked as a tech consultant doing ERP implementations at a big 4 for 3 years. These classes are hard, the assignments are vague, and Dr G is a brutal grader; but thats the point. Try hard, understand rel. DBs, ace Visio, and you too can join the thrilling world of tech consulting. Cheers Dr G
