She is an awesome teacher!! I didn't know what to expect from the class, but it was a lot of fun. Go to class, take notes and read the notes before the test to do well.
She is a great teacher! I would recommend her to anyone! One of the best teachers I have ever had. She is very to the point, and we got out of class early a lot. She has study guides for every test that tells you everything you need to know. The book is an easy read, and she tells you the focus pages that you need to read. It is pretty important th
If you go to class and take notes you'll do well. She gives you a study guide with exactly what is on the test and the 'focus pages' that you need to read from the textbook. Easy class if you show up and try. Very nice lady - you get out early a lot and sometimes don't have class if she thinks we're far enough in the material.
Just took her WS 110 to fill humanities credit and didn't know what to expect (I'm a guy). She was very nice and helpful and made the material interesting. Gives study guides so you know what to study and tests aren't too bad. I'd recommend her class to anybody, btw she's without a doubt the hottest teacher at NDSU!
Great teacher! Very helpful! She used movie clips to help people understand concepts which is great if you are a visual learner like me! I would love to take more classes from her!!
Great teacher! She gives study guides so you know what to expect and teaches in a way that everybody can understand!
Ms. Wyum is the kind of teacher who, in her own rational and non-pamphleteering way, will make an activist out of you. Her assignments are thoughtfully planned, and she is open-minded and creates a safe environment for all kinds of views. I have great respect for her...an amazing instructor!
Dena is a great instructor! She lays out the class very clearly, and her lectures make sense. She is very organized. You do have to attend class to get the notes - she does not post them, and she will not allow you to do a 'mass email' to get notes. Great course though!
This class is soooooo easy if you take the notes, attend class, and study the study guide. Forsure A if you can do all these things. She seems kind of like a control freak but whatever. So lays out the class and requires things that make you have to go to class which is nice. over all she is a good teacher and i would say take her class!
She's a great teacher. Very helpful and is always very specific and clear about what will be on the tests. Attendance is mandatory, because she doesn't post the notes online and has unannounced in-class assignments. Easy A if you read your notes carefully and the chapters.
Great teacher! Would take every single class she offers if I could. Very clear and gives great study guides for tests.
Dena is an amazing teacher. She is clear and wants everyone to succeed!
Easy A. as long as you take notes and pay attention, you'll have 98% the info you need to pass the tests. very nice, uses videos to illustrate points. easy to understand, fair grading. she walks you through everything. posts study guides with "focus pages" that tell you what pages things not covered in class are on. very easy a.
Good teacher and easy class as long as you study the notes.
Shes very clear on how she wants her assignments and when she wants them done. I have the online version of this class but she seems very helpful and wants you to do good. I have a bad habit of procrastinating in this class but if you keep up it is somewhat easy.
LOVE this professor! She is extremely nice and is willing to help any way she can. The class is mostly common sense, but she makes it very interesting. Highly recommend taking any class with her!
By far, my favorite teacher so far here at NDSU. She is kind, clear, & interesting. She provides the class with real-world examples & lays out the assignments/test reviews perfectly. Great professor.
Soooooo easy. Interesting lectures, ridiculously clear. If you don't get an A, I'd be very surprised.
She is one of the best professors I have ever had! She used video clips from popular movies and shows as examples, this was a huge help! Make sure you attend lecture and don't use your phone.
Super easy class. It's important to go to lectures and to not be late!!! Her tests are very straight forward. Should be an easy A.
I loved Dena (HDFS 242) Super easy material, 3 exams during semester (drops lowest test score), cumulative final, gives study guides for tests & final. Her lectures are really slow but she uses tv clips to help describe the material, which is interesting. You don't really need the textbook, but she does test on a few terms not covered in lecture.
Extremely nice teacher, I definitely recommend taking this course with her (HDFS 242). She doesn't post her lecture notes, so go to class. Tests are straightforward.
She is straight forward and her power-points are organized. If you want a class with participation then this is not the one for you because it can get repetitive. I don't think there was even one assignment just 3 tests (one is dropped) and a final (not hard if you show up!
Definitely recommend this class for a Wellness gen. ed. credit. She is very clear from the beginning of what is to be expected. Show up for class, take notes (from her powerpoints), and you're golden. She gives good study guides and lets you know exactly what you need to know for the tests. I wish I could take more classes from her!
Prof Wyum is very nice! She makes us laugh in class and I genuinely enjoy her class and listening to lecture, but you have to be in class because of the participation points that she has a lot of the time and it would be really hard to do well on a test without being there, regardless of the book.
Dena is an amazing professor! Her policy class definitely requires some work on your part, but it is so inspiring. If you truly want to work with children and families and possibly want to influence policy making, I would say this class is a must for you
This class was easy to go to and very enjoyable. Wyum is my favorite teacher I've ever had. She's well organized, uses examples (sometimes TV show video clips) to help learn material, and gives reviews before exams. I would take this course again in a heartbeat.
Dena is a great professor, she is very understanding and great with students. Highest grade I have gotten in HDFS classes because she is clear with her lectures and answers any questions students ask, even if she has to do research. Tests have no surprises, online weekly homework, and she is very understanding for absences.
You don't have to go to class, but we watch videos and then there are questions on the test based off the videos. She doesn't post her powerpoint either. Random attendance taken. She gives you specific pages you need to read for the test, and they are super easy.
I have taken Dena's classes before, & she is an amazing professor! She uses video clips from popular shows & movies to make her points more clear & her presentations are concise & she gives you time to write or type without feeling rushed. On her study guides she also writes down the parts of the textbook you should focus on moreso than other parts
Dena is amazing, nothing else but that. Great professor, you should take her, easy A. Just show up to class, that's all.
I have taken three classes from her and received A's in every one because she is clear in expectations. Dena is VERY accommodating & even gives one make-up for every class because she understands that things come up. She is great at responding to emails and truly cares about students. Lectures are engaging with videos and discussions.
Dena is awesome. Truly one of the best I've had (that is saying a lot since I've been in school forever). She is caring, very clear on assignment expectations, and she comments on your work. She responds to e-mails very quickly.I looked forward to the online lectures because they were very easy to follow and she has a very calm voice.
Dena is my favorite professor in the HDFS department. She puts a lot of effort into keeping you engaged in class by adding funny video clips from Modern Family, Friends, Parenthood and many more shows. She also provides a study guide for every exam so if you study what's on the guide you should do really well!!
One of the best college professors I've ever had. Very easy exams and in class participation. Would take all classes from her if possible!
Dena is an amazing professor. She makes this class extremely interesting and her lectures do not get boring, despite her class being an hour and 15 minutes. Her weekly quizzes and chapter tests are all through blackboard so you can use your notes. That being said, you have to either go to class or get notes from someone to do well on them.
Dena is a great professor. She posts her lectures online so if you miss a class you can get all the notes from there. All her tests and quizzes are online and you're allowed to use your book and notes. There are 16 quizzes and 5 tests, but she drops the test with the lowest score. Her lectures are long but she breaks them up with videos
Best professor you will ever have. I wish she taught more classes, I would take every single one. Not much homework, but YOU LEARN SO MUCH. She makes any content interesting.
Dena is an amazing professor. Her lectures are so interesting! Attendance is not mandatory, but I loved this class so I went every day. As long as you take notes and go over the material beforehand, the exams are easy.
I loved Dena and this class! She gives out a bit of extra credit just for going to class. I loved the material in this class. I want to take as many classes from her as possibly! I basically only went to class because she is a nice lady. Otherwise she posts the lectures online and test and quizzes are all online as well.
One of the worst lecturers at NDSU. Literally bases lecture notes off of clips from TV episodes, and the shows aren't even that good (i.e. Big Bang Theory and This is Us). Most assignments are online and attendance is done through clickers. Will occasionally offer extra credit but it's rarely worth doing. Easy A if you show up and pay attention.
Best teacher I have ever had. Not only did she make class intersting but she really understands her students and what we deal with on a daily basis! I don't even need any credits from her classes but I take them purely because I enjoy how she teaches.
She posts her lectures online so class is not mandatory, but extra credit if offered in some classes!
Posts all of the lectures on blackboard including video clips so attendance is only necessary if you want extra credit. She is very approachable and makes class interesting.
She is a very good professor! She truly care if you know the information or not.
Dena is by far the best professor I have had so far. She knows what she's talking about 100% of the time. Because she knows what she's doing, she doesn't just read off of speaker notes like some of my other professors do. The content in this class was also really interesting. There honestly wasn't a time where I wasn't interested.
Her class is all online and is easy to follow along with her schedule! There are a lot of quizzes and a few tests but you can use your notes on all of them!
Shes great! Shows us clips from TV shows that relate to class which makes things much more entertaining
She gives out extra credit sometimes in class so I would recommend going. She has online lectures if you need to miss and all of the tests and quizzes are online. She is a great teacher and gives video examples that help explain what we're learning about.
Dena was AMAZING! I took this course not even needing the credit. This course is incredibly beneficial. Her lectures are informative and she shows tons of video clips from very popular shows/movies. Everything is outlined very well in her syllabus and she tells you EXACTLY what you need to do to get an A. Fun course and not a lot of work!
there were weekly lectures, readings, videos, and assignments. Three exams for the semester. you don't need to watch the lectures but do the readings for the assignments. make sure to get everything in on time
For the online class, the lecture videos were interesting and she put lots of pop culture examples in the notes that connect to the topic. The book was online and you could do the class at your own pace, which was really nice. The test questions come directly from the notes and the book almost word-for-word. There are some essay questions on tests
Best professor, hands down. While attendance points are not taken, often extra credit opportunities for being present. Dena's lectures paired with her teaching styles and dedication to the students she is teaching make you feel invested and want to attend lectures. I would take courses just to have her as the instructor.
Dena is a wonderful human and professor. She is super kind. She uses relevant examples in her lectures that really help keep you engaged. Everything was open note. Shes a great teacher.
I have never had a teacher so well-organized and passionate about what they teach. She truly puts in all the effort to make this class enjoyable and I would highly recommend attending the lectures just to listen. Tests are all MC and attendance is not required. Content is also pretty interesting just for general knowledge.
favorite professor at NDSU by far, would take all my classes from her if I could.
Hands down the best instructor Ive ever had!!! She is the sweetest, most caring, understanding, and supportive instructor in the world. This class also taught me soooo much and I feel it has been the most rewarding class Ive ever taken. I love Dena, she deserves the world!
Her HDFS242 class was pretty easy. All the tests and quizzes are open-note and she gives you like 95% of the answers through notes. She also connects with the students and leaves time for discussion but doesn't force you to participate.
Loved this class, it was my favorite this semester!
Dena is a great teacher and lecturer. She makes the lectures relatable to kids our age and fun to sit through. As long as you take notes on her PowerPoints, you will easily pass this class. The quizzes and tests are exactly what she puts on her PowerPoints and 1-2 questions from the book (not a lot of reading). You will need to purchase the book
Best professor I have ever had in my 3 years of college. She is so clear on what she expects and gives clear real life examples in her lectures that help grasp the material. Her tests and quizzes are based exactly on her lectures which enhances my learning because I actually know the answers to what she is asking. Best professor at NDSU hands down.
Dena is an amazing professor. She is very clear in her lectures and her quizzes are helpful for summarizing the weeks worth of content. I 100% recommend this class.
I LOVE Dena!!!! I had her for HDFS 242 and HDFS 353 and got an high A in both classes! She's so understanding and has open note tests, she's so caring and really cares about her students! For 353 they were essay tests but as long as you took notes on the lectures and readings you'll pass.
amazing
I barely attended class since everything she offered was completely online. I never used a single textbook in her class and every exam and quiz had the answers in your notes you had to take.
No way you can fail this class. Do your assignments and tests, you'll pass with an A. She has amazing lectures.
She gave multiple ways to get the information being given like in-person class, zoom, and online lectures. One of the best professors I have had!
Professor Wyum has amazing lectures that are easy to comprehend and nice to listen to. I look forward to taking another class with her next semester.
Don't hesitate to take one of her classes.
She was great, attendance was "mandatory" but I just watched her video lectures. There is a quiz once a week and sometimes an exam along with the quiz. There is a textbook through inclusive access but you don't really need it as long as you take notes and listen. Quizzes and exams are open book and note.
Awesome lectures that were clear and concise, super easy to follow (and fun, relevant clips in each lecture). Great feedback when grading.
This class was easy. You get participation points for being in class in person. She has her students do many activities with each other in class which is a nice change compared to strict lecture classes. There is about 5 assignments and 3 tests completely.
Dena is the best prof at NDSU. If I could take all my classes with her I would. I always learn so much and it is actually applicable to my future career. If she offers a class I take it - it doesn't matter the subject, I know it will be great.
Super easy class. You could do it all online if you wanted to. She keeps lectures interesting with lots of clips from TV shows. Were allowed 2 retakes on tests, no excuses needed. Tests were straight from her lectures. Definitely would recommend 10/10. she is also the nicest professor I've ever had.
She provides all material online so you can work at your own pace. She also uses a lot of examples from modern T.V. shows that relate to the subject at hand. Very kind and provides many opportunities to succeed.
Dena is easily the best professor at NDSU! If I could take every class with her, I would. She gives you multiple ways to consume course content and therefor attendance isn't mandatory. Although, her lectures are incredibly fun and engaging. It's clear she cares deeply for students and is passionate about what she does. A genuinely amazing person!
Professor Wyum was an amazing professor. She was thorough and provided all of the information I needed for the assignments and tests. Professor Wyum cares about her students and sets us up for success in her class. Her assignments are reasonable and the tests are all over information that we had learned.
Good professor!
One of my favorite professors by far, extremely flexible, and is clear with what is expected. I wish all professors were like her.
Course was very easy to understand and was organized. Great professor and was clear on what the assignments were asking for. Multiple attempts on quizzes which help to get a good grade. Taking notes on video lectures and in the textbook will help a lot!
She was super helpful all year long. You are able to work ahead if taking it online, and even as an online student, she offered lectures in person. Her lectures were extremely helpful. She uses a textbook, but not super necessary if you watch the lectures.
The class is fully online. I finished everything (including the final) within the first month of school. Easiest class ever & actually pretty interesting too.
This professor is great. She is so comforting, answers all of your questions, and is overall very kind. She made the course very low maintenance which I found to be nice so that I could focus more on my difficult classes. She also gives very well detailed feedback to your Application Questions and other papers which I really appreciated.
Prof. Wyum was so good! I had her online and she was so generous with points, most of her quizzes were 3 attempts and her lectures were not excessivly long or boring.
Lectures were very easy to follow, she structures class to work with any students schedule or personal conflicts (i.e. you can attend in-class, or watch videos that are uploaded).
loved this class! taken as my wellness credit and actually learned more than i thought i would. super nice professor with insane organizational skills. new chapter every week with fill in the blank notes that matched lecture video, then a quiz (open-note). 4 major tests (open-note). one analysis that is also easy. highly recommend!!
