I had him before he went to A&S and he was great, these people are just upset because they didn't study well enough for his tests. FACE IT IT'S BIOLOGY, NOT AN EASY TOPIC!!! He is willing to help anyone who needs it, you just have to go to him and GO TO CLASS!!!

He knows his material and he is very helpful if you do not understand. His tests are a little challenging, but if you study for them, you will do well. He also gives a nice curve (well in all my classes he did).

Very knowledgeable about the subject. Easy tests if you read the text and study what he covers in lecture. Very boring, however.

I agree with whoever said that people were mad. I mean come on, you have to study! Dr.Conover is the best! He challenges you to study hard and learn! Chances are if you are(did) take his class you will be going on to other classes in the same field, and believe me, you will see the material he covers again! Yes, he does speak low and monotone, he knows it, in my class he crack a joke about it on the first day! It is easy to score high on his test, just study the powerpoint slides, notes, and study guides!

Dr. Conover cares about his students. If you miss an exam he'll work with you to get it made up. Very dry sense of humor; I enjoyed it. He knows what he is talking about and makes sure that everyone understands. I recommend him.

Dr. Conover is a good teacher if you actually come to class. His class can be boring at times, but is very funny in his own way. I liked this class a lot and Dr. Conover is a very down to earth guy that is willing to help you. I highly recommend taking him. Study your powerpoints and you'll be fine... Also his curve was over 10 pts each quarter

go to class and everything will be ok. he adds a sweet curve at the end of the quarter. his class can be boring, but it's important to go. take time to go to his office hours so that he will get to know you.

Dr Conover has a dry sense of humor; if you're paying attention he's pretty funny! And, if you go to the lectures and study the power points, there's no reason you shouldn't be getting really good grades. His tests aren't tricky, they're straight from the power points and the study guides. He clearly knows his stuff and loves biology.

Very straight forward teacher. Puts the class powerpoints online so you dont have to go to class to do well. I went 3 times the whole quarter and just read the book and the online notes and did well.

Great professor. Posts all PowerPoint lectures on BB so you don't have to go to class. Nice curve at the end. Easy if you put a little time into it. Only tricky part is that he focuses on some chapters more than others for exams.

Boring lectures. Just study powerpoints very well and do practice questions. He doesn't really give any hints as to what is on the test. Tests are pretty hard, so just try to beat the average. He gives a very good curve at the end.

Dr Conover is the best! I replaced grades with him and went from D's to A's. It is easy sometimes but don't let your guard down tests can sometimes be difficult. He's hilarious and keeps things interesting. I highly recommend him!

FANTASTIC professor, I HIGHLY recommend to anyone who has to take Bio. Tests are almost WORD FOR WORD from the notes, it's just straight memorizing. He is an extremely nice man who actually cares about his students and isn't out to fail anyone. He gives around a 10% curve at the end. He has definitely been my best professor at UC so far!!

Very cool. Dry sense of humor & loves his cat & dogs as you will soon discover. All things considered he is clear about what he is teaching & what he expects on tests (which are ALL scantron.) I would say 85% of lecture is tested on & the remaining 15% of detail is from the text. Approachable and he understands that we are human... not bio-bots. A+

i suggest that any1 get him if you can. great teacher who loves his dogs. really knows the material, and wants you to learn. easy to follow and doesnt go off topic at all.

He is an amazing professor. He loves his dogs way too much though. DO NOT...I repeat DO NOT by the textbook if you have him because it is a HUGE waste of money. Plus, on of his SI leaders is hot.

I enjoyed taking Dr. Conover. Although attendance isnt required I strongly recommend going to every class, bc reinforces the material and makes taking the tests alot simpler. As far as the tests-medium difficulty level, but i got a low B on the 1st, high C on the 2nd, and a mid B on the last and still ended up with an A! He curves also. Take him!

I have taken him for 101, 2, and 3. If you go to class regularly and take notes and look over them, you will get an A. He does usually curve. Don't buy the book, it is not necessary. Dr. Conover is funny and nice, and I would recommend him.

Had him last year for biology 101-103. He's really nice, but his class is extremely boring (he literally reads his powerpoint to you word for word the whole class). Gives final grade a 10% curve so it's easy to get a good grade (2% more if you do the teacher evaluation). Just memorize the powerpoints, and you should be fine.

All of the lecture is the slides, he just reads them, but he will tell you what parts are on the test. His dry humor gets me through the day!

All powerpoints are online & he reads straight from them. The sample questions & practice tests helped a lot. Attending class is pointless. Got a B(no curve) without a book and I went to class about once a week.

Super nice guy. Very boring lecture though. Reads straight from powerpoints, which he posts on Bb. Almost no incentive to go to class. Curves to make the class avg 75%. Book is only needed for Lab and studying for exams. Takes some exam questions from end of the chapter questions in the book.

Great Guy - Lectures are a bit boring due his monotone voice but he is very helpful - dont even think of not attending class because interesting things happen in his lectures and his advice before exams is very helpful - I would recommend him anyday

Very Monotone Professor like everyone else says, but he is an extremely nice guy. Only 3 tests all quarter, each weighted the same. Curves to make class average a C or a 75 so if your above that its easy to get a B or even an A. Great Guy.

yes, he has a dry sense of humor, but he's absolutely hilarious if you're not a moron and you actually listen to him. he gives an INSANE curve, you could be a total idiot and still get an a. these classes are for science majors, so if you're not interested, i suggest you switch majors rather than rag on the professors and blame them for your grade

Dr. Conover is great! Everyone says his lectures are boring, but if you enjoy science, the lectures are not boring. If you're not a science major, don't take this class. If you are a science major, you'll get a good grade. There are only three tests, equally weighted, and very easy. I ended up with over 100% in the class after the curve.

Do not buy the book for this class. I did not buy the book and only went to 2 classes and got an A. I would recommend going to the SI sessions that are offered they helped me a lot. If you study the power points, sample questions and SI worksheets you will do fine.

His lectures lack the excitement that other professors have, but he does make jokes from time to time that are quite funny. Do not buy the book for this class, I never even opened the book and still got an A, biggest waste of money ever. I definitely recommend Dr. Conover for freshman biology :)

I actually found the book to be helpful in Dr. Conover's class, as he did test some vocab and concept questions that weren't covered in lectures. Got an A through reading, end of chapter questions, sample questions posted on Blackboard, and online quizzes at Aris site. Class is helpful b/c he'll sometimes give hints on specific questions on tests.

Dr. Conover has been one of my favorite teachers my freshman year. He has the best humor and made going to class enjoyable. I will miss his lectures next year. I would recommend him for any biology student.

Textbook is worthless. His Powerpoints show exactly what will be on the exams, nothing more and nothing less. If you don't get an A, you can't blame him. Curves big on exams and gives PRS extra credit for attending class. He's very nice and helpful and even funny at times. The only downside: 3 exams make up the entire grade for the quarter.

I took all of freshmen biology with him and I only have one word to describe him, AWESOME. I'm a senior now and I am still in contact with him, he is a great professor.

Overall not a horrible professor, but was not good by any means. Speaks in a very monotone voice which puts you sleep. We never used the book. His exams are exactly like the practice exams he posts on BB. Study those and his powerpoints and you should be fine.

The easiest class I have ever taken! I attended 3 classes all quarter and received a 104% in the class. His powerpoint are posted online and are super easy to understand. I highly recommend taking him.

His class was so boring, he is very monotone. We never used the textbook..!! It was a waste of my money. His exams are straight from the powerpoints and his powerpoints are very long...studying for his exams was very stressful. Attendance is not mandatory and he adds like 8 points to your final quarter grade. His class just wasn't my cup of tea.

I like this man as a person, but I learned absolutely nothing from his class. His lectures were incredibly monotonous and consisted entirely of him reading powerpoint slides. His tests were so entirely based on the slides that I feel like I wasted my money even buying the textbook. I won't take a class with him again.

Don't bother buying the book. The exam answers are all from the powerpoint. It's so boring. Good Luck! Also, my advisor suggested "How Life Works" which is BIO101 ... for a non-science major. NOT GOOD

Conover is one of the BEST professors at UC. Just show up to most of his classes and read his powerpoints and you will get an A. Tests are somewhat hard, but at the end of the semester he curves everyone's grades a generous amount. Oh ya, he is also subtly hilarious and always shows pictures of his pets on his slides. Awesome guy.

You can tell he enjoys teaching the content of this class. He comes across as a little absent-minded but he tries to make class interesting for everyone. He has very long slideshows and is not 100 on the use of technology. I would take the course again for fun. We take 2 trips this semester to go hiking on the weekend and identify plants.

He is really laid back guy who just loves plants and teaching. The class is fun but it is a challenge. Though I don't care much for the material he made it much more interesting. Be ready for hikes.

Dr. Conover is a great professor. Really excited about plants so the class was fun. PRS Clickers and subsequent attendance are a must. The questions are easy though. Study just the PPTs for lecture exams. Study the list of plants for the practical at least a week ahead--those two ID books are a must have. Otherwise the class is chill, got a high A.

He is very passionate about Biology, but he can get slightly boring sometimes(and by sometimes I mean a lot). But, his class was very easy. He gave us all the questions for the tests and gave us a double sided cheat sheet. He also does PRS questions so I recommend to go to class. Not a lot of homework except for some easy online quizzes.

Very laid back and knowledgeable, tests are mostly multiple choice and taken from a long list of questions he gives you ahead of time. Wants to see his students do well, the lab portion was easy and sometimes a lot of fun.

Dr. Conover is an incredible professor. His lectures are always enjoyable and he's the first professor I've had that actually cared about me and my future. He's a wonderful human and I've taken 4 classes with him now. His tests are very easy and he's an easy grader.

He is the sweetest, most caring professor you will find anywhere! Plants and People is filled with people who know nothing about biology and he very sweetly answers the dumbest questions without hurting anyone's feelings. He seriously cares about you and will genuinely ask if you are ok if you look down. 100% will take him again

Professor Conover is very caring and really likes to see his students do well. He is very quirky & all of the online assignments are due at the very end of the semester so there is a lot of time to do them. I attended class each day and paid close attention but was slightly unsatisfied with my test grades but everything else brings your grade up.

Dr. Conover is like the Mr. Rogers of botany. He's one of the nicest people I've ever met. I had him for Plant Ecology and he would try to bring his dog to class and gave students guppies from his house. The man can identify just about any plant you bring him, but he gives you everything you need for tests and none were difficult.

Dr. Conover is a fantastic professor. If you show up and aren't braindead he gives you everything you need to get an A. If you're a class skipper (for shame) then you will probably fail. The dude cracks me up too but his humor is very intellectual so if you are less than intelligent you won't enjoy this class.

I really liked Dr. Conover. It's clear he's very passionate about his field. I gave him a 4 bc the class was heavily based on the exams and sometimes (often) I found myself falling asleep in class. However, he's a really wonderful person and a solid bio choice.

Took this course online because I needed it to graduate. Prof Conover and his TA kept us extremely updated, sent out reminder emails all the time for every assignment. The class was organized into 4 exams, and there was homework that you could do whenever you wanted, as long as you finished it by the final. Nice professor, easy course.

I took this his intro to bio class which was 6 weeks over the summer. Coming in I heard mixed things about him, I loved his lectures and you could tell he loved teaching biology. He was extremely flexible about me needing to take my final another day. I ended up switching to a stemmajor because of how much I enjoyed bio while being taunt by him

I found it very hard to stay on top of the knowledge when I chose to stay home. Dr. Conover takes you on hikes through Burnett Woods and brings in lots of plants to identify and sketch. Lectures consist of pictures of the textbook but he adds details that are worth noting during class. He's personable, caring, and has a huge love for botany. 10/10

Very easy knowledge. Lectures that consists of images and notes but adds his own touch. Sends out reminders about exams and important notes about lectures. Nice professor and an easy course.

Only grades are 3 HW assignments, 3 exams, and one final project. The HW assignments have unlimited attempts. The exams are very easy, all exams are outside of class on Canvas. His lectures are so fun and all the lectures relate to the tested material! Dr. Conover also leads nature walks on Sundays and they are super fun!! LOVE THIS CLASS 100/10!!

Great professor. No complaints from online course as long as you listen to lectures on 1.5 speed. You can tell he loves to teach. Exams are easy if you watch the lectures and study power points. 10/10 recommend his courses.

Dr. Conover is THE BEST EVER. The class only has 7 grades the whole semester. The 3 HWs have unlimited attempts. The 3 exams are on Canvas and are taken outside of class (easy and all answers online). There is a big project throughout the semester but it is very easy and you can chose the simplest biology topic. Great class and the most fun prof!!

I thought Professor Conover was a really sweet guy. He sometimes posts on Canvas that he is going on a casual weekend hike and invites students to come with him. I'm a non-stem major and found this class incredibly easy. No attendance, exams taken outside of class. Only complaint: lectures were so unbelievably boring. Not really his fault.

Dr.Conover is a genuinely nice and caring guy and he is extremely passionate about biology. If you keep up with the material you should have no issue getting at least a B in this class. Some of the lectures are a bit boring but otherwise class was rather enjoyable!
