Great Teacher! The exam are at a perfect balance. If you study what she tells you to, and listen in class you should do fine. She makes class fun and interactive without being put on the spot. It may take her a week or 2, but she will remember everyones names, i wish all teachers were like this.
Very clear. Denise can be a hard marker at times but you will soon understand her expectations and should do well if you attend class. She provides all the class notes so you can pay attention to the lecture instead of rushing to copy the power point slides. Very Very organized....... Very fair marker.....take her class
Easy course, if you pay attention at least half the time you'll do ok. If you pay attention and study before your exams you'll do really well. She teaches well very approachable. Answers questions if you have any. I have no interest in psych, but still an easy A.
Excellent lectures, very engaging. Easy to approach and happy to help. Enthusiasm for the material. Very fair marker. Unbiased portrayal of good material. Doesn't spend any time on wishy-washy aspects of psychology. Would recommend her PSYC110 to anyone
very clear, well thought out, very minimal guessing of what the teache wanted me to accomplish
Great teacher. Very engaging and knows her stuff. Fun! Her class was a great experience.
Really helpful prof!!
Wow, couldn't ask for a better teacher. Reason I've chosen psych as my major. She goes above and beyond to help her students and makes a very dry course interesting and tangible. Definitely will be taking her 252 class! My best teacher yet by far!
VERY enthusiastic, and passionate about what she teaches! Denise is neither overly simplistic, or excruciatingly tough. If you really want to learn about psychology but are afraid of feeling overwhelmed, she is perfect :D Very realistic expectations.
I have never been so excited to attend a class. She is extremely approachable and helpful. Denise is also very passionate about Psychology and it really shows when she lectures.
Wonderful prof, really knows her stuff. Very interesting course and if you prepare for exams they are very fair. Gives the class notes as there is a lot of material covered so that you can focus on listening and reading!
very clear, well organized, you have to keep up though review and do homework. good grades definately attainable but not a free ride
Great prof. She is passionate and it is infectious. If you keep up and listen she prepares you very well for the exams. She will always ask for clarity to see if you understood what was said. She is also quite good about using D2L. As a non-psyc major I was very impressed.
Not sure why she is highly rated. Very little textbook use, very impatient. Not a difficult class at all though. She seems like she thinks she can improve on anything you do by re-arranging a sentence... Takes the class if you need it.
Extremely clear and practiced teaching this course. If you listen in class she will actually tell you precisely what will be in the tests. Varies her lessons to try to make it easier to absorb the bulk load of info you have to acquire. Actually works hard to ensure that you pass her course.
Denise is amazing! She is extremely clear and helpful in the course. Her notes help a lot and she always makes sure you understand the material. Don't listen to that guy who gave her a negative; Denise gives so much of her time to help you succeed and is always available by email, phone, office, in class etc. Her tests are also straight forward :)
Denise is absolutely amazing! She will help you anywhere at anytime. She is so clear and straightforward and is just so infectious and makes you want to learn more and more about psych. I changed my psych teacher for next term so I could have her again! Love love love denise.
Fantastic teacher absolutely loved going to her class. She is personable, exciting, motivating and knows exactly how to help you learn. Her area of focus in psyc is memory and learning, so it's no surprise she is such a great teacher. Strongly recommended.
Great teacher, who loves her job. Her teaching style is clear, concise, well organized, and student oriented. She is an incredibly fair marker for both exams and research papers. Highly recommend.
Favorite Professor at the college so far. Denise is approachable, a fair marker, sets clear expectations, and is never boring. She listens to her students and seems to love what she does. Highly recommend to anyone.
I found her to be very interesting. Her tests were very fair as well as her assignments, which reflected the material learned very well. She uses many examples and explains concepts well.
Perfect professor. She prepares you well for you tests and you walk out of each class knowing feeling enlightened. She knows her stuff and respects her students.
Denise is probably my favourite instructor ever! Even after the class was finished for a few months she remembered my name and was interested in how I was doing. She tells you what is going to be on the exams and is understanding about midterm time and stress. If you have more than two tests on the same day hers can be written another day.
Denise is fantastic. Enthusiastic, fun, understanding, and goes over the material until it's crystal clear. She's available, helpful and wants her students to succeed. I had a blast in her class, and became completely interested in a subject that I honestly had no interest in before. Her tests are in depth, but if you study, you'll do fine.
Unbelievable. Denise is an incredible teacher, she knows exactly how to explain the info so everyone understands and retains it. She's super engaging and knowledgable. Even if Psych is not your passion, she keeps all levels of students on the edge of their seats. Wicked personality and a no bs attitude. By far one of the greatests.
clear, organized, gives you all the notes at the beginning of class, if you only attend the first 5 minutes of every class and read the notes and text this is an easy A. likes her job and is good at it. simple easy assignments.
Denise is a dream! Her lectures are clear and informative, and because of her passion and excitement about the subject, you get passionate about it yourself! All of the information is clear and relevant, and she works hard to make sure everyone is aware and informed. She is also extremely interactive. I will definitely be looking to have her again!
Psych 110/130 or any course that she teaches at camosun.. TAKE IT!! Seriously she is HANDS DOWN the BEST teacher I have ever had in my highschool, and entire college career. So clear! Makes sure you understand everything, a FAIR marker. Prints and hands out all her notes from the power point every class. BEST teacher. EVER. She should get an award.
I have had her twice and it has been great! Though for this class the material, especially the assignments, were pretty hefty. Lots of different theories as well, but if you follow her test review sheets and hints you will do fine. I did find her to be a bit down and tired this time around, but it's a 8:30AM class so no surprise there. Great Prof.
She is a wonderful instructor! Definitely would take another one of her classes.
Although it's clear she is a very organized professor, I would hardly categorize her as a dream. Very rude, and seemed to be very resistant to ideas that conflict with hers.
Denise is an alright teacher, However she is VERY rude! If you ask a question she will just give you this look or answer with such bitterness. Did not notice this at the beggining of the term but its very apparent now. Tests are tough make sure to study. Other then that.. Good class.
Great prof, she made me want to change my degree to psychology!
Great teacher, willing to help whenever you ask, super easy labs, pretty easy tests.
Denise is really passionate and more importantly ORGANIZED! Her labs and tests are fairly easy, and she's a fair marker. She's really clear about expectations and important content to know for exams. She can be a little brash at times, but she's really open to student feedback if you need her to do something different and cares about her students.
Denise lets everyone know what to study for the tests, offers advice and is open to questions. She prints out copies of the notes for anyone who wants it and offers a variety of ways to study from the material. Textbook use is heavily emphasized, but most of what is needed for the tests is in the notes which she goes over in class. Very helpful.
Denise knows her subject inside and out, is highly approachable, has a sense of humour, and works hard to make sure everyone who is putting in significant effort is understanding the material. I'd have her again in a heartbeat.
She is a really nice teacher and very down to earth. She is understanding if you have a busy class schedule, and is always quick to reply with emails. She tries to crack jokes which is nice, and is very helpful in labs. Also her lab booklet is fully fill in the blank and is overall super easy. Just read over the notes and you'll be fine.
Don't miss lectures - extra details that aren't in the slideshows are given here. Seminars are important - you will be graded whether or not you attend. She likes people asking questions but is not too helpful after class. Before tests, she will usually give out a study guide.. sometimes she will tell you what to study for in the written section.
Denise was such a great prof. She made the material super interesting and available. I barely read the textbook, just really paid attention to lectures, and still got an A+. Research paper was long (10 pages) and the group project was awful, but otherwise, super awesome class!
I loved having Denise as a teacher! She makes lectures interesting, and always replies to emails if you're have any questions. Highly recommend her!
Denise is an alright teacher. Maybe a tough grader. Other than that I think she is a good teacher with a positive attitude and a charismatic personality. She will help if you ask but she is usually busy with other courses and work which makes it a bit hard to ask for help.
Love having Denise, such a nice women! She seemed to always be there if you needed help, Not a crazy hard grader- very fair. She is very understanding, classes where very long, but its important you want. You need to try and study if you want good grades during exams, lab report at end of semester is crazy long
Denise is the most incredible prof. She is extremely caring and helpful. She clearly states in class exactly what she will test you on. She will go out of her way to help you. She's engaging, funny, and so intelligent. If you can manage to take a class with her I HIGHLY recommend it. I don't recommend missing class - but you won't won't want to.
Love her class, in PSYC 110 now, great into to the subject. Clear with her expectations, gives a great handout for all the lectures with powerpoint slide on it. She is really relatable. I wish there was another course I could take with her next semester !
Great class, great lectures. She conveys the information in a way that is memorable with examples that make it easier to understand concepts. She is very direct, which makes it very easy to understand expectations and meet (or exceed) them. Exams are a perfect reflection of the lecture material. Would love to take another of her classes.
This class is easy if you show up and take notes. She tells you what will be on the exams. I did try to see her in her office a couple times and she was not as helpful as I had hoped but she will always respond to emails or phone calls. The subject matter was very interesting but dense. Denise presents it in a concise way that is easy to follow.
Very charismatic but scattered. Slides that are shown are full of data and sometimes unorganized and hard to decipher. Communication of her expectations for students is not always entirely clear. Endless reading. I hope you like books and reading them half a dozen times.
Denise is overall a really good prof but I think she forgets that some of her first-year students have come straight out of high school & are still learning how to adjust. When asking a question she sometimes acts as if you're stupid & should just know the answer, but she'll help you regardless. Her lectures are interesting, though.
Denise was a great choice for my first Psychology class ever! She's very understanding of student's who have limitations or who have been out school for a long time. Be sure to go talk to her if you have any concerns. I found I learned a lot from her class and lectures were fairly entertaining.
She is thoughtful and you can see she loves to teach. Highly recommend her for students new to Psychology. Enjoy!
I have no previous experience in Psych and Denise was a wonderful teacher. Very structured, but is also good for a laugh. Do the reading, attend your labs and you'll get a great grade. She gives you all the resources you need to be successful. Textbook isn't necessary but is very helpful. Highly recommend Denise if you are serious about learning.
Denise's lecture are well thought out and makes it easy to pay attention. However, this semester she was clearly contending with some personal issues and it resulted in her having very little patience. She can be rude when responding to students and it will make you weary of asking questions in her labs. Ask the lab assistant questions!
I have been away from school for a while and was really glad I had Denise for my first semester back. She is helpful and has a really straight foward style when answering questions. I like that. Lectures are oganized and the lab assistant was really helpful. Would take another class with her and recommend her to students.
Denise has an apparent passion for her subject. If you read the textbook ahead of time, attend lectures & labs you will do well. She is very caring and not a tough grader. Very professional, helpful and cares about each student. 10/10 would recommend.
Denise is amazing.
Amazing teacher! The course materials covered in the class were fun and interesting. This teacher cares about the students, and students can succeed in the class because it is set up for students to learn, and excel. You know what the teacher wants, there is no guessing games on how to get an A.
Love her :) She is clear and concise, although I didn't think so at first. Her lectures are hilarious and memorable, and she gives lots of examples. Her lectures are very dense so you have to study lots on your own for a solid amount of time. She sets up students for success as much as she can and her tests are fair. 10/10 would recommend.
Denise Iacobucci prepared me for my psychology undergraduate at UVic better than anything else. I am now an honours student on my way to grad schoo. She went out of her way to support my learning on several occasions. She is tough, firm, fair, and a great educator. I took several classes with her at Camosun, and would take more if I could.
She is a wonderful teacher. Very enthusiastic, makes lectures interesting. She tries to remember your name. I think that creates a great student to prof relationship that is rare these days. She instructs what's going to be on exams and so forth. Instructions are great and relates what we are learning about to real life examples in our lives.
Denise shows a lot of respect to her students and thus gets it in return. She uses supportive language and shares a number of amazing study techniques to help you in all your classes. From what I've seen she also uses her teaching content in class to help you retain the information and later recall it. Clear expectations and tests are well laid out
Lectures were enjoyable, used lot's of good examples, encouraged questions and made expectations clear. Show up; ask if you're not sure and do the readings. Seems a bit intimidating at first, but she's really not. Fair grader. This course is a bit heavy, give it your time and you'll do just fine!
Definitely a tough love kind of teacher. If you talk to her in her office hours she is kind of half listening because she seems to have a lot of other things going on. The course is full of a lot of reading. She makes her lectures entertaining which is the plus side & most work is done in class all together. Find a partner and buddy up!
Denise was very disorganized in her lecture notes and exams. She is also very intimidating to approach as she will always question your thoughts and she will ignore your questions when you do ask her something.
Denise is smart and knows her stuff, but rushes through all her content. She is extremely unapproachable and sometimes rude. Good with groups but horrible for one on one help due to her attitude towards students who are struggling
I just wasn't a fan of Denise's condescending tone towards her students as well as her lab assistant. I found it intimidating to ask her questions and felt bad for any of the new students who genuinely just needed help. Although I'm sure I'll pass this class, she is not a prof I'd take a course from again.
I really enjoyed Denise's class. Her lectures were enjoyable and she is open to any questions on anything you need specified. I find her marking to be very easy and reasonable. If you find her unapproachable, i feel that is your lack of experience in the real world. She has a fiery personality, which i love and respect in a teacher. :)
Denise is one of the most amazing professors I have ever had. She knows her stuff! She may seem a little unapproachable, but she is very kind and understanding once you build rapport with her (reach out, attend classes, PARTICIPATE!!!!, let her know if you can't make it, hand things in on time, discuss things with her should something be late).
Great lectures, very descriptive. I particularly liked the lectures note booklets she gave out, very helpful.
Denise has by far been the rudest professor I have ever had. She is extremely unapproachable and condescending with any feedback she provides. Her tests her good but often rushes through material in her lectures. Definitely not the kindest person at camosun
Really enjoyed the course -- her grading syllabus for the paper & presentation are VERY detailed so you know exactly what needs to be included. I also liked that she adjusted the marks on assignments based on the class did (threw out sections many people got wrong, etc.). Know the lecture notes front and back for tests!
Denise is amazing! She is hilarious and cares about her students. Her lectures are very engaging and she provides great study guides for all the tests. Would recommend taking any class with Denise.
Her lectures are the highlight of the week, she can make everything seem interesting, and after every class I leave excited for the next one. She can be a little intimidating, and she dislikes no shows/lateness, but if you can be on time, you'll get along fine. She also gives free note packs for all of her lectures, which simplifies things.
Awful, unorganized, she lost one of my assignments and it took forever to get it back. I had to email her about an ongoing mental health problem and she unexpectedly called me late at night. Not very about this! Conversation on the phone was weird. Didnt enjoy her lectures as they were boring and she would skim over the interesting material.
Denise is so far a good instructor and makes the lectures interesting, but sometimes she is way too fast, the biology chapter was something different from my studies and she was too fast in covering it that i was barely able to understand any concept. she is smart but i did not had a good experience in matter of concepts.
Picky marker when it comes to labs, exams are long and application scenario based even though content in lecture is just definitions.
Denise is one of my favourite profs at Camosun. She may seem intimidating at the beginning but she really cares and wants her students to do well. Her lectures are very fast-paced but she gives you a handout with all the slides on it.
Her lecture giving way is so confusing to me. From the first day of the class, I didn't get anything. So many things going on at one time. So, puzzling lectures. I agree that all others have a different review to her, but I was disappointed.
Denise is SUPER inclusive and goes out of her way to make sure you feel included in her class (ie, includes they/them pronouns in quiz questions just because!) This class was written for a 7wk sem. and she did an amazing job writing it with that in mind! It's A LOT of content, but she is fair and reasonable about it.
very confused most of the time, so was Denise . She reads right from the notes, which are rarely compatible with the textbook, and are also hard to follow because titles are rarely used. Afraid to ask questions as she would just confuse me more, or wold use a condescending tone. Very scatterbrained, tests had material not included in class/textbook
Prof. Iacobucci really cares about her students and what is going on in their lives outside of class. That being said, you need to do the work to succeed in the class. As long as you do the readings, take her feedback into account and complete the study guides prior to exams you will enjoy her class. Provides in-class activities.
This proff really cares about their students and wants them to succeed. You do need to do your readings and activities. Listen and apply and you will earn your grade. Recommend.
Great professor. She's very interactive and manages her student-teacher relationships kindly and with respect. There is quite a bit of reading but she prints out lecture notes before class and records the main points of lecture which had been very helpful throughout the course.
I think Denise did a great job of stepping in and teaching while Arloene was away. Read a previous rating an had to say something. She was kind, considerate and caring. You get what you give.
i had denise in 110 as a sub & rlly disliked her, but when she's teaching her regular classes & not so busy she's very kind & understanding :) iffy attention to detail, class materials & tests have little mistakes & can be confusing, so def check in w/ her instead of assuming what's being asked of you. overall an amazing teacher IF not a sub
Denise does a great lecture! Very entertaining and interesting material. The class doesn't have exams, which is great. It's not test heavy at all, as you are graded on many side assignments as well. She's very reasonable and understanding. Lovely prof, would recommend!
Super nice. Made intro to psychology make sense and really does want things to click. Cares for her students and gives lots of preparation and notice for projects and tests.
Denise was wonderful. By far one of my favourite professors! Having an 8:30am lecture kinda sucked, but it was always fun and I learned so much. I used the textbook maybe 2 times. Most things are covered during lecture. Midterm reviews are posted as soon as the new chapters are started so there's lots of time to prepare for tests.
Denise is very encouraging and wants her students to succeed. She is passionate about the material she is teaching, is really open supporting students and wants you to do well and feel prepared. She teaches strategies for studying in this course along with the material, gives you lots of heads up about expectations for tests and assignments.
Lectures were quite long and she basically just read from the lecture notes the entire time. I stopped asking questions because her answers made me more confused. Lots of quizzes. Super nice though and very willing to help.
Denise is a great professor who wants her students to succeed. She does read a lot of content from slides, but she gives clear examples and makes the content engaging. There is a lot of reading and I found myself falling behind, but pay attention in her lectures and you will do just fine. No participation marks but attendance is highly recommended.
Wonderful, caring and supportive teacher who thoroughly explains course material in an easy-to-learn format.
Can be intimidating and make you feel dumb but that's 'cause she's brilliant, so make sure you don't ask stupid questions. Clearly explains topics and gives great anecdotes, seems serious but is understanding with late work/grades. Very funny and has a lot of knowledge to be shared. Would take again.
Loved her, and the class was really clear
Denise is a well-spoken and caring professor. At first impression, she may seem intimidating but she genuinely cares about the well being of her students and is incredibly accommodating with extensions. Her lectures were easy to understand and made engaging with stories to help you remember the content. Challenging yet interesting content.
She is a really funny lady and lectures were entertaining. She's very knowledgeable. However, her quizzes are 60 questions every other week. There's no final, but her quizzes are exams but at least they're multiple-choice. I recommend taking some easier classes with this class to help balance your workload.
Denise is approachable & available outside of class hours. She is clear about what she expects for tests & labs, with her instructions well-defined. There is group work for lab assignments and the final lab report. Denise enriches her lectures with numerous real-world examples, making it easier to learn. I am excited to take another class with her.
Denise makes lectures very interactive. Her tests are fairly easy if you study; the only things you need to really worry about are the research paper and the group project. She is very particular about APA formatting so try to follow her instructions very closely! Overall a very interesting course.
Denise is an awesome professor. She has very organized and efficient lectures with lots of interesting anecdotes and real-world examples to connect material to. She answers emails, clearly explains what is on tests, and has a vast amount of knowledge of developmental psychology. Definitely take a course with Denise if you can (especially Psyc-171).
Denise is a highly intellectual professor. 171 is quite simple, having a good amount of papers to quiz ratio. The only knock on her is that the study guides aren't always gonna have the concepts shown on the quizzes, so make sure to read and actually study the modules (i barely did and still got an A-). Overall pretty good teacher, A+ def possible
Denise is generally a lovely person and professor. She is cluttered at times and gets a little behind, but other than that it's very obvious she cares about her students and she makes her tests, papers, and assignment rubrics very clear and specific which is truly so helpful. She provides excellent feedback and is easy to approach.
This is my second class with Denise. I appreciate the opportunities to boost your grade with weekly open-book quizzes (two attempts allowed). Her marking is fair and tests align with what she says will be on them. There was no final exam. Sometimes communicating with her was challenging and she can be disorganized, but overall a good experience.
Denise is an engaging lecturer who makes the material interesting. Her quizzes are challenging, but if you stay on top of the readings and attend class, you'll do well. I found unstuck ai really helpful for preparing. Overall, a solid class worth taking.
I found Denise to be hard to approach about things, and condescending at times. She made a couple not so nice comments towards me and other students. I think she has more of a "tough love" approach, so if you like that then you'd like her.
Denise is fair, enthusiastic and cares about her students. Good classroom discussions when time allowed. quiz reviews helpful but need to study. great material.
Just an amazing Prof! I went out of my way to take classes she teaches! Wonderful, brilliant, thorough, and hilarious.
enrolled in this course with the expectation of a safe environment. unfortunately, was left feeling exposed and somewhat uncomfortable. regardless of intent, the class experience affected my trust in the learning space. had hoped to assume that consent and boundaries would be handled with care—esp in the field of psychology.
I am currently taking psyc 171 with Denise. 2nd class I have taken with her. She is honestly really funny and a good prof! You can tell she wants you to learn and succeed in her class. She is very clear on how you can contact her and she is more than willing to answer your questions.
I'd never take this class again. Denise is hard to approach, she made the class feel unwelcoming. Wrote one email, never felt comfortable enough to write another one. “Quiz's” are 60+ questions, very hard. Lecture, lecture slides and textbook are all the same, if attendance wasn't mandatory there would be no point in going. I didn't learn anything.
Denise clearly cares about her students and enjoys the material. Just took her 171 and loved it. Read another review saying participation was mandatory...that isn't the case. tests are thorough but she reviews each test before the tests.
