Denise is a talented teacher, with the patience of Job. She is genuinely interested in preparing students for the next course by ensuring that they clearly understand everything in her course. If you like A/P, she makes a difficult course straightforward-Don't look for an easy A.Highly recommended.
Denise is a tough teacher, but she does a good job of explaining the material. This class is by no means easy, you will definitly be working for your grade. She's funny too.
I loved Denise! She was very clear. Different colored pens on the whiteboard was the key! No tricks on her tests.
Denise is a great teacher. She explains everything clearly, and her in class exercises are great. She completely prepares you for tests and is very helpful if you are having any difficulty in the class. I highly recommend.
such a cool teacher, very animated style of teaching...
Hard class but she knows her stuff! If you want to learn everything about anatomy- take her class- She is very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about her subject!
take her. she is very helpful and explaining material clearly on both lab and leture.
Denise is a great teacher. Her class is very hard but she knows her stuff! Is very helpful and always go over class materials before a quiz. And she also has a great personlity which keeps the class fun
Denise is Great!!! she takes the time and explains the material and doesn't make you feel bad at all. She is willing to work with you and make arrangements if need be. I highly recommend her class. She is very kind and consierate.
She is a pretty amazing teacher. She is very thorough and knowledgable. Dont be afraind to ask her anything as she knows it all!
Denise is everything that a professor should be. She is polite, helpful, friendly, very approachable, patient, etc. She simplifies the textbook material so that you can understand it easily. However, if you still don't understand something, she will take the time to explain it until you do. Denise also gives open labs so that advantage of those!
Denise is one of the best teachers I've had in a long time. She is very knowledgeable and helpful. She offers extra lab time and she is very willing to give extra help if you ask. Her lectures and lab are VERY clear and her tests are resonably straightforward. I took her class over the summer while working full time AND commuting and I got an A
Denise is a great teacher do not even think twice about not taking her. I took Bio. over the summer, but I could not do it. Although, I will take it again in the Spring and she will be my teacher for sure. Love the way she makes the material relate to what we are doing.
Denise was one of my favorite professors on this campus. She loves to teach, and it shows. She loves it so much that it makes you want to study. Not because you simply HAVE TO study, but she makes anatomy and physiology so interesting that you enjoy studying and you succeed. The material is difficult, but she will make it possible to understand
She makes learning Biology fun and comprehensable. She's organized...
She is great! There is an easy way to sum her teaching up. She gives you the most amount of details to remember than any other teacher but she is the easiest to understand. If you want an easier class take it at another city school, or take a different teacher. Learning more now will be beneficial in the long run. She is so helpful and made it f
Excellent, clear, fun, helpful, easy on the eyes. One of the best A&P professors that I have had, including many from UCD. But be prepared to work your buns off to do well in her class. Do not expect to skate through for an easy grade. She makes learning fun, but you have to EARN the grade that you get.
Denise is an amazing teacher. What sets her apart is her clarity, optimism and organization. She teaches a very difficult subject in a very clear concise way. She also offers very extensive open labs and give us many opportunities to learn the information. I would highly recommend her for this class.
She is awesome! This class in not easy but it is not supposed to be easy. If you are going into the medical field, you want to know all of this information. For this class, you have to study a lot! Denise is really sweet, makes the class fun. Take her if you want to learn.
This is a difficult subject but Denise makes it fun and tries to help the students to master the material. Her exams are difficult and you will spend a lot of time studing, but once you're done with this class you'll know your stuff! Denise is easily one of the best teachers I've ever had.
SHE IS THE BEST TEACHER AT SCC! She actually cares about her students. What's great about her is that she simplifies things, she doesn't expect you to just know everything. She is so awesome!
If you want an easy Bio 431 class don't take it at SCC.. However, if you want to know the material Denise is one of the best teachers at SCC. Her tests are hard and you'll spend every minute of the semester studying, but your future classed related to health care will be much easier because you know your anatomy and physiology!
If you want an easy Biology class take it at American river college, but it wont benefit you later. I spent almost everyday looking over material and reading about it because thats what it takes to get a B in this class. Denise is the best teacher at SCC for biology. I highly reccomend her, test are tough, but she is great!!
Denise Johnson is one of THE BEST teachers I've had in my life!!! (And believe me, I've been to school) She is clear, funny, devoted, enthusiastic about the subject and she'll motivate you to learn & love the subject too! I can't say it was an easy class but the way she teaches & her frequent reviews make it a lot easier. I LOVE this teacher! A+++
Excellent teaching style. Very pationate about the subject. Patient, helpful, and approachable. She is the best teacher I have ever had. An "A" is not easy to get, and you have to dedicate many study hours.
Denise is a GREAT teacher..she is very optomistic and encouraging. This class was difficult, but Denise explains the material very clearly...she knows her stuff!!!I highly recommend her..
She is the head of the biology department, so if you decide to take her be prepared to work. If you are serious about learning about the body I highly recommend her. Dont be intimated by these reviews, although it sounds impossible to get an A in her class it is possible. She gives out 3-4 homework assignments a semester & 2 quizzes per system.
Great instruction and terrific enthusiasm!
Denise is a great teacher. Her notes are great and for 430, most of my classmates just studied off of her notes and got good grade. Very approachable but don't expect her to be easy. She's a hard teacher but you come out of her class a whole lot smarter.
great teacher, very enthusiastic, just dont get on her bad side. lots of memorization.
Don't get on her bad side is right. Lots of cramming and not much to remember by the end of the semmester. It is an important course for Allied Health and in order to learn the basics to move on you will not benifit by cramming. I would do some reaserch before taking her class. Most students get dicieved by her personality.
IT HAS BEEN 1 SEMESTER SINCE FINISHING HER CLASS.I GOT AN A, BUT UNFORTUNATELY DUE TO THE NECESSITY FOR CRAMMING, I CANNOT REMEMBER MUCH OF WHAT WAS TAUGHT.SHE IS A GOOD TEACHER AND SERIOUS ABOUT HER WORK, BUT IF YOU HAVE A PROBLEM RETAINING CRAMMED INFORMATION, SUCH AS I DO, YOU MAY WANT TO LOOK FOR ANTOHER TEACHER BEFORE COMMITTING TO HER.
Denise is great! She's passionate about what she does and it shows in her teaching. It's a tough class but she makes it easy to understand and makes it less overwhelming. She's always prepared for class, has a variety of teaching techniques and she's fun! I can't say enough about her and highly recommend her!
Best teacher I have ever had for a hard college class. She knows her stuff, teaches it very well. She makes class fun and interesting and is available for help whether you're in her class or not. Not very many homework points so study it up, and hit up her Open Labs, they are the bomb for studying before exams. Must take her class!
Denise was an excellent teacher! She really knows her stuff! All of the material on the tests comes from her lectures. So as long as you attend class and study, you should be fine in her class. She was very helpful and explained the material very thoroughly and clearly. She is very enthusiastic about the subject. I would highly recommend her!
She is an awesome teacher! i read all of the reviews on her prior to taking her class and let me just tell you that bio 431 is not as bad as everyone makes it seem. she?s very clear with what she wants you to know. Take good notes study a lot on your own and you will do fine in her class. The final is cumulative so retain the info you learn!!
Denise is a wonderful instructor and I would highly reccomend her. The subject is difficult and her tests are a bit harder than some others I have taken, but her lectures are crystal clear and as long as you study her notes and read the book you should do well. Take advantage of her open labs, they will help.
Truly amazing professor would highly recommend her.. the class is difficult be she makes it enjoyable
This teacher hates students and talks to them as if they are children. She knows her stuff! Test are hard and she is a hard grader.
This professor knows her stuff. She unfortunately doesn't hesitate to talk down to you. Great knowledge on the subject but boy, don't get on her bad side.
I don't like the fact that she gives you homework to do. That bascially waist our time. Two quizzes for every chapter. She is not easy though. But very nice and makes class fun. I just guess this class is every hard.
This is a pretty tough subject to learn and retain. Denise is a tough, but helpful instructor that wants her students to succeed. Be prepared to study a lot. Some students were able to get by with 5-10 hours of studying, but to really get the material more study time is often needed.
Excellent professor, very organized and personable! This class is extremely fast paced with LOTS of information to obtain! Do NOT get behind or slack at all or you will fail! If you are prepared for a challenge and ready for some hard work then I highly recommend this professor! If not, don't waste your time, or hers!
Denise KNOWS her stuff...she is funny, intelligent, and a great prof. The only downsides are that she her grading is harsh. I think because of this the class becomes more of a chore than a great learning experience Also, the material is too much for the amount of time between exams. Los Rios should divide this infomation into 3 classes, not 2.
With any A&P course you know it will be hard. If you just want an easy A, I will say that Denise is not your teacher. She knows her stuff. Take her class and put a lot of time into studying and you will actually learn the stuff. If you think you are going to slack and learn something...sorry this class is not for you. 5 exam,10 quiz, 1 comprensive
She is not a nice teacher. You are so worried about writing all the information down that she writes on the board that it is nearly impossible to grasp what she is talking about. She seems approachable but when you talk to her she is extremely demeaning. I think she enjoys knowing that students are struggling in her class.
Denise is an amazing professor. She is clear and very organized. She clearly wants her students to succeed, but isn't going to just give out an 'A', so prepare to work for it, as you should in a college course. She sets you up for future success by NOT letting everyone just slide by, and does her best to make sure everyone understands the material.
Denise is an AMAZING professor. She is very passionate about anatomy and physiology and makes everything a whole lot easier to understand with her colored, detailed notes. I never read the book and did really well despite little to no studying, but don't think it's an easy grade. Form a study group to get things down.
She is passionate and knows her material. Her lectures are very organized and a definite plus but by no means is she an easy teacher. Do not miss class because this is a fast paced course. A&P is like Learning a new language so be prepared identify, memorize and apply what you learned in lecture.
I think people confuse amount of material with quality of the professor. Denise is absolutely and exquisite teacher that is passionate about her work. The criteria for this class is to learn the human body. Anyone that thinks the human body is simplist is Crazy!! Her tests are hard, but she doens't expect anything from you that she doesn't give
Denise is by far my favorite professor I've ever had. She is very passionate about A&P, her lectures are very clear and organized, and she cares about her students. Her office hours and open lab time are very helpful. Denise made a challenging subject very enjoyable and she gives great review questions before quizzes & exams. Love her!
She is honestly one of the best teachers I have ever had! Write everything she writes on the bored and STUDY/Memorize it! those are her essay questions on the exam. Lots of activities in lab to help understand material. No extra credit and no curve... I WOULD take her for 431 but she is not teaching 431 in fall
Best professor ever. Teaching is definitely her thing, which isn't the case with a lot of professors. Very organized, and can teach a very complicated subject in a way you will understand. Don't miss a beat or you'll be left behind. Lots of memorizing & understanding is key as it builds on top of each other.
I am glad I took this course with Professor Johnson (I had her for lecture only, not lab). She is energetic and friendly and always takes the time to answer student questions. She also "sprinkles" her lectures with interesting clinical relevance facts. Know her lecture notes inside and out and work on connecting the dots to do well. Good luck!
This is a very hard class, but Denise got me through it. Copy everything she writes down on the board and show up to class. All the tests and quizzes are based on her lecture notes.
Denise is the best! Her exams and quizzes are based on her lecture notes and labs. She makes the material easy to understand, but you still have to put in the work to succeed. You can probably get by without reading the book, at least sometimes. Take advantage of the open labs, office hours, and even email. She makes herself available to help you!!
Definitely not someone I would recommend if you don't have a good understanding about material already. Condescending. She gives test every week worth 10 points but theres 15-20 questions on the quiz. Cumulative final
she is a tough teacher, she degrades her students she is not approachable, take this class at CRC you'll have a teacher that cares
The last 2 raters are smoking crack. Denise pretty much gives you everything you need to know in her lecture notes. She even writes them on the board in a very organized manner. I don't know how much easier she can make it for a content-heavy class. She's a great instructor!
Denise is an amazing instructor. She is so very passionate about A&P and wants her students to learn all there is about the human body. This class is hard, no doubt about it, but Denise gives you everything you need to do well. Its up to you to work your butt off and do well.
Really Important: If you are taking Biology, do not take Ms. Johnson's class. When I needed help she was not very forthcoming. Staying after class, going to open labs were not beneficial by no means. Overall, Ms. Johnson's goal is to make sure her students struggle. She likes to overload on work above the limit to overwhelm the students.
Best Professor hands down.
Johnson gave amazing lectures that were easy to follow. Her exams are straight from lecture. Make sure you study study study!!! Missing class is not an option as she takes attendance and you will very much fall behind. Weekly quizzes, but they are a piece of cake if you study for it over the weekend. Extra credit opportunity as well!
Denise is the most amazing, passionate professor I've ever taken! A&P is a difficult course overall, but she gives you everything you need to succeed. Her lectures are never boring, and her notes are very organized and color coded. Study from the notes and you should get an A. This class moves very fast, so make sure not to fall behind!
I originally took Prof Johnson for BIO 100 and found out how amazingly organized and caring she is. Taking her for BIO 430 as well is the best decision I could have made. I probably would not be excelling in this class with another professor. She does make you work for your grade so be ready to study but she's VERY clear about what she expects!
Okay let's be real now. She is a very good professor. Although, she has too many information which makes her look like she doesn't have time to breathe when she's lecturing. I took 431 with Sarte, and he was pretty chill yet we learned a lot. With Johnson, you need to promise yourself to take her class ONLY especially when you work full time.
This class is a beast!! Very content heavy! Denise Johnson is VERY helpful. She has very organized, color-coded notes on the board. There 10 point quizzes every week, but they are a great study tool and a great way to keep things fresh for exams. She has accessible office hours whenever I needed help. Responds to emails quickly. Love her!!
Such an amazing teacher. I took Anatomy and Physiology part 1 and 2 with her (full year). She does all the heavy lifting, coordinating the lectures on the board. She literally writes out her own notes! Best part is no need to buy the txtbook because between her lectures and the lab manual you have all the information. Study hard and you will pass.
Professor Johnson is amazing! She made all the information really interesting and fun. Everything she wrote on the board was on the exam, very clear grading criteria. Work your butt off and don't overload your schedule and you'll be fine! I wish I had her for 431 too!
Took BIO 430 A&P in Fall 2018 and had a great time learning from Professor Johnson. She is very enthusiastic and makes the class entertaining while teaching the material very effectively. You will learn a lot of new and exciting information so be prepared to commit time to this class. Your effort throughout this class is the grade you will earn.
She gives an excellent lecture. There are no free points, like really, you'll work for all of them. Just because you spent three hours on a ten point homework assignment, does not mean that you're going to get ten points, she grades on correctness. Re-write your notes, I was able to get a's on lecture exams that way, Flash cards of photos for lab.
Professor Johnson (: is a great & enjoyable teacher. Her lectures are amazing, but youll have to work hard for your grade. Read the book, rewrite your notes, record the lectures & put in the effort . Bio 431 is a hard class generally, but Johnson wants to see her students succeed. Make sure youre understanding the concepts in lecture.
Professor denise is ok, but just not my cup of tea. She is unapproachable to some students & it shows!! She has her favorites! I ask her a few questions & she'll answer my question w a question making me feel dumb. She expects you to somehow already know the material. She teaches super fast. Overall just not for me. Will never ever take her again.
10 pt. quiz & HW packet/week. 5 Lecture exams 5 Lab exams. There is 1 extra credit assign. worth 10 pts. (she doesn't do hand outs, you have to work for EVERY SINGLE POINT)Would NOT take her class again. She has her favorites, makes you feel dumb when asking questions during lecture, doesn't give any study guides & is unapproachable. Save yourself!
Prof. Johnson is an amazing professor that cares and goes out of her way to have you succeed. The only way to get anything less than an A with her is by not putting in the effort. Shes really involved in her teaching/tries to make a really hard class as easy as she can. Put in the work and youll get an A. Im passing with over 100% bc of effort!
Professor Denise has been one of my favorite professors at Sacramento City College. Anatomy and Physiology is difficult, but her lectures are clear and concise. Her notes are color coded and organized. Homework is minimal, what matters in this class is studying. She is kind, caring , and always is accessible if you need help.
Professor is challenging but fair. Lectures are very organized and thorough. Keep up with assignments and studying if science isnt your gig. Material is difficult but manageable if you keep up. Weekly homework is easy point collection, very little extra credit. Prof is very approachable and has a lot of energy. Never boring.
Very passionate and knowledgeable. Well organized. Presents information so it's easy to understand. Intense homework but in this class you have to learn a lot of information in a very short time so if you do the work you will pass. Use open Lab and office hours if extra help is needed. Grades on curve, gives some extra credit.
She is an excellent teacher and really breaks down the topic so that it is understandable. She is approachable. However, her class is quiz, exam, and homework heavy. If you do not study and KNOW the information, you will not receive a good grade. She does not offer extra credit.
Great Prof! However she requires participation to the MAX! Makes you do partner projects/presentations, picks on ppl for participation, requires TONS of hw! Mind you, it's semi helpful but she loads on more than necessary for students. Was my first time ever in her class and she lectures great, is super concise but I likely wouldn't take her again.
Take her! Professor Johnson is amazing! She gives amazing lectures and is really dedicated to the students success. She responds to e-mails quickly and explains the material very well! Rewrite notes, make flashcards and use all the resources she provides. Repetition is the key to success in this class. 5 lecture and lab exams. 10 quizzes.
She is a good professor, but she give out way too much homework for this class. Her exam isn't hard. I have to spend time doing homework more than studying . She give us busy work to prevent us from studying. I am not going to take this class with her for bio431, it is not wroth it. Her lecture is very organize and the way she teaches is alright
OMG! Such a busy semester, but so glad I took this class with her. She's so organized (takes notes with you in lecture videos). She's quick at responding to emails and is super duper nice. You definitely have to work for your grade like reeallyy work. But if you're sure of your career path then it should all be worth it. TAKE HER! Now on to 431!
Overall she is a great professor she provide recorded lecture for both lecture and lab, but do keep up with the material. There is two quizzes each unit that it is proctorio, so study everyday. Each exam consists of multiple choice( the hardest part), fill in the blank(re-write your notes), and short answer( compare and contrast or big concepts.
She is a good professor and sweet but her exams are hard. Even when you memorize all notes the way she words questions can be difficult. I have an A in all my science except this class. I will update this if I see she is no different than my bio 431 Professor. She gives tons of hw to help you but its just to much. Takes away from studying.
Great professor. Bio 430 is a LOT of work but well worth your time and effort. Make sure you have the time to dedicate to this class. She offers many different suggestions to help you succeed. Professor Johnson is very approachable and knowledgeable. I will definitely be taking her for bio 431.
Do not take her. Gives a lot of assessments and they all unorganized so you have to organize them on you own which takes a lot of time in order to study for quizzes and exams. Gives an exam review but she will ask completely different questions on quizzes and exams.
Although I did not pass, I really enjoyed the class and Professor Johnson was amazing! Be sure to devote A LOT of time to studying (2-3 hours studying for 1 hour of lecture and lab) 5 exams and 1 cumulative final. Make flash cards for everything! Professor Johnson was responsive, made lecture and lab more enjoyable, and cares for the students!
Amazing Prof. she is very organized and makes sure to break down topics to help us understand better. This class requires a dedication to get a good grade, so make you're on point with studying and not slacking off. There is a lot of work but they are very helpful with learning new material. Put in the work and you'll do great in class.
Sac City really needs better Bio profs. The faculty isn't caring. Has favorites. BEWARE of this prof. It's either her way or the highway. ....Do not recommend.
BEWARE of this prof. It's either her way or the highway. Sac City really needs better Bio profs. The faculty isn't caring. Has favorites..... Do not recommend. Take her if you want to memorize your textbook.
BEWARE of this prof. She seems nice the first few days but that is not how she really is. Insults and mocks. Save yourself and take someone else.
Professor denise is ok, but just not my cup of tea. Overall just not for me. Will never ever take her again. She is unapproachable to some students & it shows!! She has her favorites! I ask her a few questions & she'll answer my question w a question making me feel dumb. It is your choice - just so you know what to expect!
Professor Johnson isn't a difficult teacher more so this subject is just really dense and difficult itself. Its hard to find a professor that can transfer their knowledge of materials so difficult like A&P and she's able to do that to her students. Her grading is really clear, you either know it or you don't. Don't be afraid to ask her for help! :)
Lab manual is such a waste of your money. I didnt learn much. She makes you feel dumb when asking questions during lecture, she seems nice first because she doesnt want you to drop the class but later she is unapproachable. 5 Lecture exams 5 Lab exams. Also, Quizzes, you have to work for EVERY SINGLE POINT) & HW packet/week.
BIOL 430 is a very rigorous course and you have to commit fully. She tries her best to work with her students and offers many forms of resources. She obviously has to be strict with grading bc we cannot go into our fields with mistakes. I am taking her for BIOL 431 because she's so amazing. If you work hard for your grade, she will work with you.
I didnt like her class. It was very stressful to have so many exams. My friend took the same class with another professor (at CRC) and she enjoyed entire semester. Think twice if you want to end up like me regretting taking her class. My classmates share similar opinion just so you know.....
She's not necessarily a hard teacher, I just believe that this subject is just really hard and you really need to put effort in. She wants you to know your material which is fair enough. I personally really enjoyed her and thought she was great. I wish there was no cumulative final however because if you had an A it could drop to a B from it.
I didn't learn much. She seems nice at the beginning of the semester but later she doesn't care. She is so focused on tests and homeworks. I wish we spend more time on understanding the material not memorizing textbook. I do not recommend taking her class.
This class is very homework heavy. The upside is the homework helps you study/understand and the HW points dilute bad test scores. Tests are memorization heavy. She is very clear on what you need to know. Her notes are so good you only need to use the text as a supplement. Gave a 4 because though nice she is not flexible about illness.
Overall just not for me. Will never ever take her again. She is unapproachable to some students & it shows!! She has her favorites! She expects you to somehow already know the material. She teaches super fast. I ask her a few questions & she'll answer my question w a question making me feel dumb.
I am confident that this class has prepared me for the future. Lectures are straight to the point and she does the notes with you. Exams and quizzes reflect the material, so there are no surprise questions. Prof. was easy to talk to and it was evident that she cared for her students. I took this with micro and survived! Great class and professor!
Her class was an initial shock the senses. Tons of homework, regular quizzes, presentation preparation, calling on you when you don't raise your hand, tough grading, etc. was a lot to get used to- I almost dropped, but found a rythym. Her tone is iffy sometimes, but she's organized, clear and helpful/kind if you talk one on one. You'll learn a lot!
Her class was an initial shock but in a negative way. I cannot say I liked the class. Very dry. No room for critical thinking. You have to take her class because there is no choice. SCC needs better professors. I DON'T RECOMMEND her class.
Would take again, she is an excellent and knowledgeable teacher! The material itself is challenging but Prof Johnson has great lectures where she is writing down notes of the material that are important to know. Offers many extra credit points, and there are 5 lecture and 5 lab exams with quizzes every other week.
I LOVED Professor Johnson!! She is probably the best professor I've ever had and it's super hard to find a professor who's not only knowledge about what they are teaching but can pass that knowledge to others. There is a lot of work but it's not impossible. Any student would be lucky to have her as a teacher!
She gives 10 exams, many quizzes and a lot of assessments. I would not take her again.
I didn't like her teaching style. Very dry learning experience. Many exams, too many compared to similar course I took in another college. Very homework heavy. No, do not recommend her. Also, very outdated examples.
had her before for 430 but she became more difficult. She is very homework heavy and it left me with little time to study the actual material. She's very caring but tough to grade. I don't know how many -0.5 I got, but they were always were for small "mistakes" which just included her not liking my answer, but info was correct. Get ready to STUDY!!
Pro: Great Lectures, gives lots of resources. Cons: Material volume, test-heavy, is particular about test responses. You think you're doing enough? You're not. If this class is crucial for your medical academic career, you need to dedicate religiously for this class. I'm serious, this class gives you a taste of medical level teaching. So prepare!
She makes simple subject more complicated than it is. She pretends she knows a lot but when you ask her questions her answers are at the high school level and not really applicable to life. I work in the medical settings already I didn't find her examples helpful. She mostly relies on textbook. Personally, I didn't like her teaching style.
Be aware. Good reviews are written by her favorites. She pretends to be nice at the beginning of the semester. Sac City really needs better Bio profs. The faculty isn't caring. Has favorites. BEWARE of this prof. It's either her way or the highway. ....Do not recommend.
She is a fantastic teacher! Bio430 is a very dense course and you NEED to put the time in if you want an A. She clearly outlines what is expected of students. I would recommend taking her course! Be prepared to study. There are quizzes almost every week, but it helps you keep up with the material, which is crucial. She gives tons of extra credit!
I didn't like her class. She sets 2 exams are on the same day. Way too much to work.
Do not recommend. The faculty isn't caring. Has favorites. BEWARE of this prof. It's either her way or the highway. ....Sac City really needs better Bio profs.
I didn't like her teaching style. Textbook based. Asked my mom's friend working as a nurse and she said most of what I am studying is not useful.
She pretends to be super nice at the beginning of the semester but in few weeks you will regret taking her class.
Professor Johnson is amazing! She cares so much about her students and their success. This is a hard class and you must prepare to study 20-30 hours per week for a good grade. The tests can be hard but they prepare you for TEAS and HESI exams. Very nice and always available to help. She gives you all the tools for you to succeed.
IMO Professor Johnson is an excellent choice for A&P (BIOL430 + BIOL431). I chose hybrid (online lecs and in-person labs). Plan to spend 15-20 hours/week minimum (Class Time, Lecs, HW, Studying). Logistics: Quiz + HW almost every week, 5 Units (10 Exams) = 2 Exams/Unit (1 Lec + 1 Lab), 1 Cumulative Final, Extra Cred Offered, Some projects
I highly not recommend this professor. She gives so many assignment and long lectures to watch. All you do assignment and get no time to process the material to understand. If you are working full time and taking this class or taking other classes with this class. DO NOT TAKE HER
She is so caring and understanding however she is a homework heavy. Oh my the amount of homework killed me. As a full time employee I just could barely manage the homework takes away from your study time in a major way. She is informative and an interesting professor. You can tell she is passionate about teaching and puts so much into her students.
DO NOT TAKE HER. She is too much work. She gives so many assignment and long lectures to watch. All you do is assignment after assignment with no time to process the material to understand.
I had her before for 430 but she became more difficult. She is very homework heavy and it left me with little time to study the actual material. Do not recommend.

she is the best anatomy and physiology teacher ever (especially if you are going into nursing school). There are 5 lecture exams, 5 lab exams and cumulative final (replaces your lowest exam), 10 quizzes (lowest quiz dropped), hw Each unit has a set of 5 extra credit points that are very easy to get (just go office hours). She gives the best notes!
Professor Johnson's class is very challenging, but Unstuck AI can help prep for the frequent exams and quizzes. The textbook is essential, and staying engaged is key for this dry but informative course.
i cant stand her voice. Its almost like she likes to hear herself talk. In her prerecorded online lectures she asks us a question than gets excited with her own response. It's bothering me already. But she is detailed i appreciate that.

honestly terrible professor. She is straight up rude with her little snarky comments but acts like the nicest person ever. And as a professor that is embarrassing acting like that towards your students because it can be draining & unmotivating makes you not want to show up to class. She has favorites and you will know when she doesn't like you.
I wanted to like this course. A&P is the most interesting topic. Go to ARC. Thank me later. I was in nursing school prior and learned half of what shes teaching, & still progressed, far. Her class is information overload, you must know it all. Like actually, actually. All her quizes/test are in person. She asks the Q outloud, you write down.
Is all anatomy and physiology classes THIS impossible or is it just this professor?
Great professor, has office hours is willing to help. Lectures are clear, homework not too difficult. commit time to study so you really know the information if you do you will do great.
DONT TAKE HER! Im a straight A college student and CHEM was fairly easy, but her class was such a mess. Half of the material is unnecessary and other A&P students I've talked to suggest taking Prof Ewa. Exams are LONG and complicated, and the material isnt even covered in the lectures. half the class dropped by the end, STAT AWAY FROM HER CLASS!!
It's not worth it guys, don't waste your time taking this class. Was planning to go into nursing but will have to redo this course. She's a sweet lady but the amount of quizzes and exams every week is insane. Lots of short essay questions that you need to be ready for. Be prepared to dedicate all hours of your day studying, all in all a big mistake
Passed all quizzes and lectures and had a good grade until the final, it dropped my grade by a lot. When taking this class expect to not have a life outside of school and don't take other big classes on the side. Come to her labs, but other than that I wouldnt suggest her class to anyone. Either wait to take a&p next semester or take it at crc
I don't even know how I passed yall. After her class Im debating if I'll even get into any nursing program lol bc w this grade I think it's kinda impossible. I wouldn't suggest taking it w her but good luck. The exams are super tedious and she's a strict grader
This class w Johnson is very challenging. The amount of work assigned is very high and most students where struggling to keep up with the fast pace of lecture quizzes and exams every week. Be prepared to be called out to answer questions. I personally wouldn't have taken her if I knew of her teaching style
This class was a nightmare. I took the lecture online and although her prerecorded lessons where informative her voice is a bit annoying. Planning to take 431 with another professor.
On average, I spent at least 20 hours a week studying for her class and I dont think it was enough. Flash cards will be your bf, but be prepared to get mentally exhausted, like other reviews said, this class is no joke. You cannot procrastinate since there are new assignments and quizzes every week. She cares though and her office hours are great!
Don't take her
all the reviews are accurate, her class literally gave me ptsd. so glad it's over
It's frustrating how much time and effort I put into this class, only to end up with a C. Ik im not the only one, most students can relate, and not many of us scored high in her class. For some reason, doing well on her exams feels nearly impossible. They're incredibly long and detailed. She does offer extra credit though! Be prepared to study!!
Avoid this class if you can. Save yourself the stress and choose someone else for a&p! Maybe it would've been better taking the online lecture, glad it's over
So fed up with this class, not
Her quizzes are incredibly tough. I'm not sure if all A&P classes are like this, but the weekly lecture quizzes and lab exams were some of the most stressful parts of the course. I barely made it through and was honestly surprised I passed w a C. Be ready to dedicate a lot of time to your studies; this class can take over your schedule
She overcomplicates her lectures. Sometimes it feels as if she doesn't want to teach. Glad I took her online asynchronous class bc I can't imagine having to take her lecture in person and listen to her voice for longer. Will end up retaking the class
DONT TAKE HER i will be looking into other proffesors at arc
I really like Professor Johnson and think she's a great professor overall. However, she timing quizzes and exams made me feel anxious every time. If this is your first time taking Anatomy and Physiology, I recommend taking BIO 300 first. I wish I had taken the beginner-level course first to better adapt to her teaching style.
I have taken Professor Johnson for both anatomy classes and thought she was a super involved energetic professor. A&P will be hard no matter who you take and the material actually matters so that's why I appreciate how much she makes you remember. She does have a lot of work and you NEED to be ready to study for quizzes or exams. Study groups help.
Her class literally gave me ptsd. I am so glad it's over. All the reviews are accurate. Just so you know.
I had her for BIO430 and am going back for 431. She is REALLY test-heavy, and they are HARD, but she also has lots of opportunities for extra credit and tutoring. TBH, I barely passed, but study groups help. Also, ask questions; she'll go into depth and help.
Hardest class that I've ever taken and I have 160 units taken in Los Rios. It's biology boot camp and you will eat and sleep A&P for the duration of the semester. Don't try to take with another class @ same time. Take Biol 100 before taking the class; Watch lectures and write notes more than once; Study groups; Extra Credit; Tutoring; Do it all.
