SHE IS VERY HARD AND DEMANDING. IN HER CLASS I DID NOT LEARN MUCH. SHE GIVES A LOT OF HOMEWORK AND SHE IS NEVER CLEAR ABOUT WHAT SHE WANTS. WHEN SHE EXPLAINS IT, SHE CONFUSES ME.
If you are serious about learning english she is perfect. You must follow directions carefully, no late homework, and take one very extensive test on grammar. She is very informative, answers all questions and then asks if anyone has a question. Study!!!
very unorganized. highly critical.Not easy to please and would go off on the class. does not stand by her word. unhelpful. all the students i talked to said they felt disjointed in the class and never really knew what was expected of them.
She is a good teacher if you utilize her outside of class. Her office hours are the time when you will receive the best instruction. In class she is very confusing. Tough grader but very intelligent.Could learn a a lot from her if you put in extra effort.
It took some time to fully apprec. her, but she is truly a great teacher. I learned so much from her. She expected a lot, but she also gave a lot of help & advice if you were willing to listen & learn. Do the work and you just might improve your writing.
she is unclear, difficult, not very fun, and unorganized. she has a calendar that is supposed to tell us when things are due unfortunately that changes weekly, one week we had 20 bib cards, 2 essays, and book read all on the same day

Torture class. Directions and expectations are never clear. Good class for mind-readers. Mangles poems when she reads them aloud, and mis-pronounces standard English terminology. Sends you to sucky plays (6 characters in search..)
Brace yourself.
Very unclear in giving direction. Does not work with students. Constantly changing class assignment. Unorganized about what she is going to lecture on. Very hard to learn from the type of teaching methods she uses. Favors certain students in the class. Class content extremly boring.
There is something that lacks about her.
She was very demanding, but you didn't know what she was demanding. She'd tell you an assignment was due the next day and the next day she'd say to save it for another day but that another one was due. She's an idiot, don't take her. I dropped her class after couple weeks because of her stupidity

Day in and day out the class is easy but the only MAJOR PROBLEM with the class for some people is that 50% OF YOUR GRADE FOR THE SEMESTER IS 1 RESEARCH PAPER. So if you dont want to write a big paper dont take this professor other wise have fun
pretty easy class. towards the end of the semester she gives you days off to write your paper. she grades kind of hard and she wants stuff in your papers that kinda make them not flow well but just do it anyways and you will get a good grade. i got an A on my term paper and a 89% in the class and she didnt bump it up. overall pretty easy class though

I thought she graded way too hard and I love english. It's like she expects you to be a professional writer, you make one mistake on your paper and you get a C. You have to write 2 big papers and one is worth half your grade. She doesn't explain how she expects the work to be until after she gives you a bad grade for it. I do not recommend her.
This professor is a very HARD grader. If you want an easy A, you're better off choosing another proffesor. In this class you: Write two research papers, read two novels, and write endless papers that require a lot of time. So if you want to get a good grade w/out investing so much time, take her. If not, take another teacher.
Mrs. Mitchell's class was hard but she will help you if you look for the help.
She is the hardest and challanging teacher i've ever had at this college. she grades too harsh. i never could understand what she actually wants from us. she expects too much from students. lots of readings and writings and 2 research papers that will give you headaches through the semester. never take her.
GREAT TEACHER. best english teacher ive had.very practical and works with you. if your looking to learn your stuff, she is highly recommended. DO NOT take her if you are lazy, have a full load,or are looking for an easy A. heavy work load.
She was helpful but graded very unfairly she alse has a bit of and attitude. i would NOT recommend her.
Terrible teacher avoid her like the plague. Too many small assignments. Everyday there are at least 3 assignments due, most of them pointless. She grades too hard. Requires you to go to hour long library sessions or sign up for a class. Research paper 1 will cause you loads and loads of headaches. Also, she has a real attitude problem.
Rediculously hard. Too many assignments in a very short time window. Grades quite rediculously also. D- on a Poetry Analysis....shouldn't that be opinionated?! Don't bother w/ this one if you actually have a life.
Be prepared. This is not an light workload. Tons and tons of assignments due everyday. You have to read 2 novels and write in-class essays and do discussion questions on both but i will give you a hint. I got an A in this class, and I never read either. Sparknotes is your friend. For the last essay, i suggest you choose a known short story.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS if you have a life such as family work pets or other classes the workload is unmanageable, new homework every day. she wants to show her students how much she knows and how hard she must have had to work to know that much, you will never be worthy of high grade unless she thinks you have worked as hard as she did.
Very nice teacher. This class is very hard and time consuming but I've learned alot and I know that the material I learned will prove useful when I transfer. Teacher expects alot but its for the benefit of you. Would not reccomend to students who want an easy A, and are not willing to give 110% effort.
She has a bad attitude towards the students. Some days she was extremelty happy, but other she was very rude, morelike if she Bipolar. Not helpful!

Very difficult teacher. I would say that if you work hard enough in this class, you'll get an A, but then I would be lying. Assignments given take tons of time to complete and if you don't have enough commas, or quotations, you'll get a C. Don't even keep the syllabus because you won't follow it. She adds on assignments everyday. Bipolar as well.
THIS IS A UC TRANFERABLE COURSE. So, if you want to relax and take it easy, then choose another class, this instructor is tough. She is very strict on MLA and her rules. Ink, Paper, and Internet Connection is a must (she uses her website more than her syllabus). Very understanding if you are working hard.ATTEND HER OFFICE HOURS, she is very helpful

This class is HARD. Not necessarily because of the material, but because of how strongly you must adhere to MLA format. If you arean MLA pro, you should be ok. If not, you will become one if you want to get a good grade. SO glad I took this class . It made me a better writer, but it was HELL as far as difficulty. Not an easy course as all.

This class is HARD. She's kind of, bipolar. As long as you don't screw up on your MLA format and read the books, you'll do ok. To be honest, if it wasn't for this woman I'd have no idea how to write a college level paper.
The class was very hard, and she didn't stick to the syllabus AT ALL. She marks down tremendously for minor mistakes, she is kinda crazy (not the good kind), and more than half of the class dropped early. She did make it so that we didn't have to write a whole ten page paper, instead giving us 2 five page papers to put together as the final essay.
Do NOT take this class unless you are SERIOUS about working hard. This was by far the hardest class I have ever taken. She is unwaveringly strict about MLA format. If you mess up anything at all she WILL give you an F. I don't regret taking this class with her because it definitely made me a better writer, but it was HARD.

She is a very hard teacher but I learned SSOOOOOO much. There is a tremendous difference between my first essay and my last. If you want to learn how to write a paper then take her class. She is very helpful and always has office hours. She is also extremely nice and will ALWAYS help if you ask for it. I would take her again.
She's an amazing English teacher. instead of doing many large essays, she assigns small ones (2pgs) and at the end you put them all together for your final essay. As long as you keep up with the work, the class is really easy.

i took this class first semester freshman year. Not a smart idea, she gives so much homework and it is stressful.she takes attendance everyday, and has an assignment every day we have class. not recomended for anyone taking a lot of units .
This class is nothing but unecessary work. I had other classes too but this lady acts like her class is the only one you're taking. The work was pretty easy but it was a huge amount. You have to read everything she assigns or you're screwed. I'd take her if I wasn't going full time.

Very hard professor. She keeps an online schedule for students to follow then constantly changes the schedule without notice. Loved the class at first, but over time started to hate it. She picks favorites, they remain the only students who get A's!! Get on her good side early and try as hard as possible to stay there! Participate in class!
I took Mitchell my freshman year and it wasn't much of a good idea because she expects you to know how to write right there and then. She is a tough grader. Marks you off for things she hadn't made clear before. Very unorganized with schedule. She will not help you unless you ask. Wouldn't recommend to those who seek an easy A.

Professor Mitchell is unorganized with her online schedule and has changed it at least 10 times causing miscommunication with her students. I took her my first semester of college. Big mistake. She has no sympathy for any student if an assignment couldn't be turned in on time. Beware this teacher, fingers crossed that I am able to pass her class.
Professor Mitchell was probably the toughest teacher I've had while at BC. You will learn how to write the perfect essay in t is class. She can be a very nice woman, but dont get on her bad side. Also dont miss the final presentation days or she will fail you! Make sure to turn in all assigntments on time and you will do well in this class!

Professor Mitchell is a great professor. She is tough but she is only try to help you be successful and pass the class. This class ways hard but that is expected for a compressed class. She is very understanding and does the best she can to help.
Professor Mitchell is an amazing professor. She is very tough on grading, but you will learn how to write an amazing paper. Changes the schedule frequent but is clear about it. LRNC B510 is a compressed class so be prepared to write 2-3 essays a week. Gives good feedback on what needs to be corrected, funny and understanding, would take her again.

She is THE WORST. Do not take her class. Literally the devil. I wish I got a different professor. She gives so much homework and expects it to be done by the next day as if we don't have other classes to worry about. She makes us read WAY to much and gives a new essay assignment every week. So get ready to write. A LOT.
She has good material and plans out her classes in advance. Those are the positives. The negatives on the other hand. She picks favorites, leaves obnoxious amounts of homework, will take LOTS of points off for minimal mistakes, prepare to take 7 week old handouts for some lovely pop-quizzes, would make an Algebra class feel like Calc 3 for sure.

If this is your first semester at Bakersfield College and you placed high on those placement tests DO NOT take this course with her. She is beyond unorganized and constantly tells you one thing and does the other, the papers aren't too bad but are really tedious to do. Oh and DON'T forget your Italics because she will slam your grade for that.

Professor Mitchell is a tough cookie! BUT if you are willing to put in the work, meet with her outside of class, and participate in every class meeting.. you should do fine. If you are a slacker, this isn't the professor for you. If you like structure, this is the professor for you!!

She made this class harder than anything Ive ever seen. She does not teach and expects you to learn. Severe amounts of work not caring about our other classes. She doesnt help much when your righting your essays either and is a very tough grader. Beware freshman because this could be your biggest nightmare!!!

The arrogance of this instructor has caused her to forget what she gets paid to do. The only way to pass this class is to have taken it before. Disorganized, contradicts herslf frequently on assignments a no feedback as to why she failed you assignment. Avoid this waste of time, there are teachers that care, she's tenured, she doesn't.
My post, how chaotic/incapable of teaching Denise is, always gets deleted. There is a serious issue if she is allowed to continue destroying freshman students' academic progress. Her online class is so unorganized it is unbelievable, and she expects you to follow along. Due dates change all the time. Assignments will show 2 different due dates. I really think maybe she should stick to the class setting because I don't think she knows how to use electronics. This is no exaggeration. Please don't take this class.

Although, she was very hard to understand at times I still managed to pass her class. She is very strict and at times sounds rude but if you do what she asks and put effort you will pass.
Horrible, just horrible. When you ask questions you get scolded without really being helped or given clear direction other than "look at the syllabus".
She will not make any exceptions for late work even if your at a funeral you'll get an F shes a hard grader and wont respond to your emails if there is anything grammatically incorrect about it so beware she wont respond unless you proof read your email. Beware she is a horrible online professor.

Very difficult class. The professor loads an obscene amount of work on students. One to two essays due a week on top of several other smaller reading/writing assignments. Is very unclear about expectations on assignments and isn't helpful when you email her. This class will consume your entire semester.
This professor doesn't provide clear instructions to the students. Instead of educating and inspiring the students, she gives negative feedback and discourages the students with harsh grades and rude comments. Please don't take her course. Education supposed to be fun and joyful, not stressful and adding unnecessary burdens to the students.

Do not take this class. Expect 1-2 papers a week along with other quizzes and writing assignments. Yes this is english but she acts like its the only class her students are taking. Her feedback is not helpful at all, and her assignment descriptions never makes it 100% clear what she wants from you. Barely replies to emails or very late.

Put us in groups and I'd turn my papers in with everyone else and I'd get a 0. I'd ask her why and she said she never got it or she "lost it." Definitely leftist bias in the classroom considering I was the only white guy and the only one that was happening to. DO NOT TAKE THIS PROF.
Do not take this class. She is an ultra leftist feminist who "lost" my work every other assignment (group work) because I was the only white guy in the class. Magically the only one this was happening to. Very rude, lots of homework, and her feedback is vague/not helpful
