Fun person who teaches Stats from the ground up. Extremely helpful if you feel "iffy" about the course. Easy, straightforward exams with a lot of opportunity to increase your grade over the course of the semester with homeworks. Highly recommended
Awesome! The best professor at Northeastern!
Funny, nice, really cares about her students. Lots of class participation. I was NOT looking forward to taking stats but actually enjoy her class and I have learned a lot. She makes really complex topics simple and we laugh a lot.
A decent professor who cares about her students. Her tests are HARD, but homework and participation help weigh the grade. She is helpful, but can be a little misleading when it comes to her tests. Do I recommend her? I would say yes if you keep up with your homework, participate, and do well on two of the four tests she gives.
AMAZING professor! She knew us all by name, made us laugh, and took the time to explain everything so that it all made sense. If you can get into her class, jump at it!
CHOOSE HER. One of the best professors I ever had at Northeastern!
Best professor at Northeastern. Sign up early though - her classes fill up right away!
great teacher. should have been an easy A but only myself to blame.
Love her! Would never make it through this course without her support and constant encouragement! One of my hardest classes for sure, but she makes it fun and interesting.
Professor Spencer has been a pleasure to have. She's extremely tentative to her students and delivering her lectures. Great at explaining everything, very fair grader and an overall amazing presence.
She's great! Really nice, very willing to help you; pushes you to learn. She's teaches the material really well, but the tests are really long and hard. Expect to do some homework. Very strict on phones in class and being late. Attendance is part of the grade. Would recommend!
The subject is hard to follow at times but she explains the material very well. Her tests are long and tough but she's fairly lenient with grading and gives lots of opportunities for extra credit. She cracks a lot of jokes in class and makes it fun to attend.
Dr. Spencer's class was tough. There are only three tests throughout the semester and then a final exam that mostly focuses on the last few chapters. There are also regular homework assignments on mindtap that are easy points and SPSS projects that she uses to boost your grade. She and her TA were both extremely helpful during office hours.
Amazing! She gives the longest tests though and it gets really hard at times but she is great and always available to help.
She's the best teacher I have ever had. The material is hard but she makes it enjoyable and she cares deeply about her students. Highly reccommend!
Great professor! But extremely hard! Makes the course harder than it should! Do not take this course with her!
She is a really nice person, but she makes test so much harder than they should be, therefore I do not reccomend you take her. You may understand the material, even be able to do all the homeworks and assignments no problem and the test is still impossible. She is fun though. But, if you care about your GPA DO NOT TAKER HER.
One of the best teachers I have ever had. She is so caring and intelligent, she makes a tough subject as relatable as possible with lots of relevant examples. If you are struggling she really cares about helping you improve. Her tests are very hard but if you study you can really walk away feeling like you've learned a lot.
Easily the best professor I have ever had. I learned so much from her. So many of her tips have helped me in my other classes. If you are struggling, she helps you. If you are doing well, she pushes you to do even better. She makes you want to do well. Very inspirational and supportive. Homework and class participation worth 40% of your grade.
Take her class. Im so glad I did! I dont think I would have understood the material without her help. She explains things very well. She is also really encouraging and funny, a very positive person. Its nice to have a professor who cares so much about her students. You have to work hard in her class but it is fun so it doesnt seem like work.
I didnt think I was going to like statistics. I was afraid to take this class. I ended up loving it and its all because of Professor Spencer. She is awesome. She makes you feel really good about yourself, just for trying. I didnt feel stupid when I had questions. She really helped me understand the material and I had a lot of fun. Ill miss her.
I LOVE THIS PROFESSOR. I suck at math / courses with any numbers involved, but Prof Spencer is AMAZING and teaches so well. She is chic, funny, and SO caring about her students (loves the athletes? lol). But literally Spencer is great. The course is HARD and the exams are long and difficult, but she preps you SO well. Would take her 100x again.
Prof Spencer is by far the best professor i have taken in neu. She gives 3 tests and the final. Her 3 test are heavy!! Really hard! However she tries to help her students as much as she can! She explains everything really well. Choose her!!
Shes the best! Her class is hard bur she gives the best lectures. Really good examples, interactive classes and she makes sure you understand. Easily the most inspirational prof I have ever had!
She's the best! I wish I had more professors like her. I really looked forward to going to class. The class was hard, but she is funny and she really cares about her students. I wanted to do well for myself, but I also ended up wanting to do well for her because I felt like she invested a lot of time in us, and I didn't want to let her down.
Take her!!! Statistics, no thank you! Really hard topic. But I love her teaching style. Shes definitely strict, but shes also pretty down to earth and really supportive. So the class is hard but relaxed at the same time. It goes by pretty fast. Participation is part of the grade. Be prepared to get called on. She calls on everyone in the room!
I am not good at math nor statistics, but she is the best professor in the department. She truly wants you to succeed and do well in her class. Her lectures are great and the TA´s she chooses are also amazing. If you work and put the effort you will succeed in her class and actually, understand statistics.
Professor Spencer gives tough midterms and participation matters so she will pick on you. But she is totally amazing, the homework is easy and she cares a lot about making you succeed in the class. She's down to earth and is really friendly as the semester goes on.
Best professor I've ever had. Her exams are tough, but they get easy throughout the semester. She's so helpful and wants you to succeed. I would take any course just so I could be in her class again.
Prof Spencer is the BEST professor I've had. She is extremely well-respected, and for good reason--her lectures are super engaging and fun. She cares about every single one of her students, but her course is really difficult and requires a lot of effort. Despite this her class is SO worth it, she's an amazing teacher and person.
I LOVED professor spencer! She was amazing! Her first exam is pretty intense... Everyone in my class failed the first exam. But once you understand her test style, they are easy to get A's on if you actually make an effort in and out of class to study. Her tests are super long so you have to write really fast. No textbook used.
Spencer is by far the best professor I've had at Northeastern. I failed my first exam, along other classmates (if not the majority), and we were assigned partners. Throughout the semester, I studied and learned so much by myself, and partners. Mrs. Denise is so committed in helping us understand and succeed in the course and in our future.
Hands down the best & most caring professor I have ever had. Student participation is a big part of the class. We work through problems in class with partners. She really encourages you to ask questions and give answers, even if your answer isn't correct. She meets with every student individually. I've never had another professor who does that.
Bless this sweet sweet woman. Best college prof Ive had so far. Her and her TA were blessings in my college career. She made me truly understand the meaning of stats. First exam killed me but I was able to recover and still finish the class w a B. If you want an A your gonna have to work really hard for it. TA will be your BFF
Her tests are very very long, but they are not difficult. It can get very frustrating when you know how to do all the problems on the test, but you don't have enough time to do them. I would just study and practice all the problems and basically be able to do all the different types of problems without hesitation. Very doable to get an A though.
SUCH A GOOD PROFESSOR!! She is probably the most difficult stats professor at NEU and will really make you work hard for a decent grade, however, she really cares that you understand the material and genuinely wants the best out of her students. Do note, slight less SPSS focused compared to other classes and study hard for her tests!
BRILLIANT PROF! She is the best, she cares about students and she is always ready to help. She knows how to encourage students and she wants everyone to improve. She gave detailed comments on each assignment. Taking her class was a pleasure. My FAVORITE professor in northeastern!
Professor Spencer is an incredible teacher and she really wants her students to learn. Although stats is an extremely difficult topic to handle, if you attend all her lectures, you'll do fine. Homework is 30% of the grade, which will help a lot if you do fail a test.
Spencer's very engaging, so her classes are lively. She tries to teach through students, which can be a hit or miss. This class will make you comfortable with participating. Homework is punctual. Tests are hard and fast. Tests averages started low, but got better throughout semester. The class was fun but there are much easier teachers for MGSC2301
Very helpful and really good at what she does
Professor Spencer is the best Professor I have had so far. She teaches in a way that makes the material easy to understand. She is also very nice and always goes out of her way to get to know the students.
Proffessor Dee Spencer will make you work for the A, she makes sure every student participates by calling their names. If you're actually interested in learning the subject take her, otherwise other professors have easier tests but they are less engaging.
Spencer is a very nice woman but save yourself the stress.
Dee really wants her students to succeed. The class isnt easy my any means, its a lot of content but she explains things very well and uses a lot of examples in class. Attendance is a must - if you study and put in the work you can get an A.
Really great teacher who genuinely cares about her students! I learned a ton! I was terrified at first, because she cold calls everyone, but I ended up really liking it because she keeps everyone engaged and the time goes by so fast.
I wish every professor taught as well as she does. I waited for a year to get into her class and it was worth it. She makes a difficult subject accessible and relatable. She makes everyone participate, so if you want to hide, take another professor!
I love Prof Spencer. She is funny and patient, and explains things clearly. She really cares about us and wants us to learn. She encourages us to ask questions and make mistakes. Her class is a very safe environment. I would take every class with her if I could.
Take statistics with Professor Spencer! She is SO ENGAGING! She is funny and can make any topic really interesting. I love her class. And she has the patience of a saint. She uses tons of real life examples and will answer 100 questions to make sure everyone understands before she goes on to the next topic. My favorite professor so far!
She Is really amazing professor, the best professor I've had so far. She genuinely cares for her students and her class is extremely engaging. Her class is a bit hard, but if you're engaging with the class, you'll do well.
Her tests are hard, her teaching is amazing and interesting. Her worksheets are amazing and prepare you well for the test, put in the work to do all the practice problems and easy A. The reason why I got an A-? I didn't do practice problems for one test and failed. However, her class was the most amazing class I've ever had. She also gives extra pt
One of the best professors I have ever had. She truly wants all of her students to succeed. Although cold calling was scary at first, it definitely helped me to understand the material and come prepared to class. Would highly recommend taking Professor Spencer because she teaches real-world examples and will prepare you for the exams.
Really good teacher, I found myself paying attention even thought statistics doesn't interest me.
Professor Denise is the best professor I have ever had. But her exams are really difficult, mainly focusing on conceptual questions which you will definitely be thrown away by. You will find yourself getting more used to her unique exam style by seeing continuous improvements. she provides many extra credit opportunities in class.
Professor Spencer is by far the best professor I have ever had. Lectures are clear and concise, she prepares you for the homework which is very straightforward. The exams are very easy in my opinion because Professor Spencer provides us with so many example problems during lecture that we all go through together. She is so sweet, lucky to take her.
Dr. Spencer was the best professor I've had at Northeastern so far. She is caring and always willing to help you. Effort and participation matters a lot. Her class is really hard especially in the summer, but she knows it is hard and has a lot of measures to help you do well even if you're struggling. If you put in the work, it works out. Love her
I love her! She is an amazing professor with a huge heart. Her classes are always really interactive. She calls on EVERYONE during every class to keep you involved and engaged. I thought I would hate stats but love it because of her. She provides tons of extra help, extra credit, and opportunities to improve your grade throughout the semester.
Best professor! Provides constant encouragement & help. Very clear explanations. Class participation is huge. Tells you what will be hard & what will be easy, & exactly what to study to succeed. Lots of practice examples for every topic. Take her if you really want to understand statistics & you want a professor who really pushes you to learn.
One of the only classes I've actually learned in and been very engaged in. Prof Spencer is very caring and makes classes engaging and makes sure no one is confused or left behind. She always encourages questions and explains content well. Yes it is a lot of work at times and the tests are a bit difficult, but I think I've learned a lot.
Arguably one the best teachers I have had at Northeastern (and in my academic career). Professor Spencer is a true gem in a slowly deteriorating era of educators that go "above and beyond" for their students. Her class is difficult no doubt - but if you are willing to put in the work and use all of the many resources she provides, you can do well!
Professor Spencer is my favorite professor at Northeastern, and business statistics is by far my favorite class. I absolutely hate math but she is incredible at motivating students. I have never learned so much in a class as I have as this one. She meets with students individually who are not doing well, and adjusts course based on student needs.
She's very mom-like. She is funny caring and super patient (answers every question before moving on), encouraging (always says "great question!"), and creates a strong class community (we always interact with her and each other). She holds everyone accountable to be their best (no phones, be on time, stay focused, treat each other respectfully).
This is the hardest class I've taken but she is the best professor I've had. She cares about you like a mom and is only tough on you to push you to succeed. I hate math but she makes lectures engaging and cold calls but it helped me learn so much. You will not find a more dedicated, caring, sweet, and honest professor. The very best NU offers.
I personally enjoyed the teaching style and cold calling because it improves class morale and engagement. You really have to attend lecture, understand the slides, complete HW, complete extra practice problems. Exam 1 was rough but it gets better and everything evens out by the end of the semester. She really cares about her students.
I saw another review refer to Professor Spencer as "mom-like" and I think that is accurate. She cares about her students and is very encouraging. She really wants her students to succeed. However, this class is not an easy A. Be ready for cold-calling every class, late homeworks are not accepted, and the first Exam was rough for a lot of the class.
Could not agree more with the positive reviews written below. I took her class this semester, and let me just say her class was on the more difficult end. But if you put in the effort, you can definitely achieve an A. Prof dee is really understanding and as long as you try, cant see why you can't achieve a good score. Recommend her!
As much as Prof. Spencer is caring and enthusiastic about Statistics, she puts too much onus on students to learn. Lectures are way fast-paced, and every class is in preparation of the next exam, even if we just had one. Exams formatted different than HWs and exercises too. She'd be good in a more advance class.
im so happy someone finally left a medicore review. IF YOU ARE NOT CONFIDENT IN UR MATH ABILITIES, TAKE ANOTHER PROF! i joined her class because of all the good reviews but i regretted it. hw is hard. exams dont relate to class concepts. some1 can be so good at a subject they forget others aren't -- players aren't always coaches
LOVE HER! My favorite professor! She's really passionate about statistics and about students. She prepares you well for the exams. We do problems with partners during class and she gives extra study problems and answer keys. She says to study a little bit every day and you'll nail it. Best advice ever! And pay close attention to her slide!
She is amazing! She took over our class last semester after our professor had to step down and managed to reteach us everything we hadn't understood the first 3 weeks of class in a single week. She talked to us about how we could move forward and cared about our opinions and then met with ppl who struggled with the material to encourage and help us
1st exam was tough, only slides as resources. For 2,3,4, practice and solutions were given. but 2nd exam had a bad study-to-grade ratio. Each unit felt like a different class. The 3rd unit was the best. The 4th unit was disorganized. while u do learn, it becomes ur life. class success felt manufactured. but prof tries to accommodate and cares
Professor Spencer is the best ! Tests are difficult but she provides lots of resources and is very accessible. Read the slides, participate, do the practice problems and you will do well. She genuinely cares about her students and wants to see them succeed, one of the best professors I've had at NU.
Spencer is hard but she's so nice. It's true that she actually cares about students, which is unusual. The cold calling took some getting used to but it gets everyone talking and asking questions. Once you get used to it, it's less stressful. It helps that she is really funny. Claas was never boring.
Best professor EVER!! she made a 3 and 1/2 statistics class interesting and fun. I wish I could take more classes with her.
From other professors at Northeastern, she takes some adjusting to. You must hold yourself accountable for assignments as they're due at 9am. She has no forgiveness for late/missing work. I didn't do well on the first exam, but I learned and studied harder for the 2nd and 3rd exams. If you put in the work and come to class you'll do fine.
Professor Denise is a very participation and anti lecture type. ofteacher. her class was very engaging. You always had to be prepared to know the answer and understand the content. it is a very fast paced class but I really enjoyed taking her class. Math is not my strong suit and i was able to succeed in this class thank you to her.
Attendance is mandatory every class. She cold calls but it helps make you stay on top of your work. If you do all your homework and practice problems you'll be fine. You need to put time aside outside of class to be successful. I think her teaching style takes time to get used to but overall I learned a lot from her class.
An amazing professor who makes learning fun and truly does care about you as a student. I felt like I learned a lot throughout this course and had fun while doing it. Would take a class with her again 100%!
She was a great professor who made Stats such an easy class, even though I had it at 8am. As long as you pay attention in class and take nots she will love you, and provide really great help. Honestly this was such an easy class and she was very nice.
Lectures are chaotic, and the tests barely relate to what's taught, leaving students confused and unprepared. Feedback on work is minimal, offering no real guidance for improvement. Questions in class are often ignored or poorly addressed. Overall, this course feels disjointed and unnecessarily difficult
She is a great person but her class is hard unless you have countless hours to put into the class or you are already familiar with stats. The math isn't hard, it's the conceptual stuff that she is extremely nitpicky with on tests yet she glosses over that when she is teaching you in class. Her tests are too dense for the class time and impossible.
She's a nice person, but her class is very tough and you need to put in many hours outside of the classroom. I found myself sacrificing grades in other classes just to get a decent grade on exams. Tests are taken on canvas which I found annoying and if math isn't your thing or if you haven't taken stats before, I wouldn't take her class.
She cares very deeply about her students and their performance. You have to pay attention and attend lectures in order to do well. She goes incredibly fast at the beginning of the semester, so you have to do a good amount of studying/self-teaching at the beginning.
This course feels like. it was structured to be deliberately difficult for no good reason
I think about Dee Spencer once a week and am grateful to have been in her class. She is caring but a tough grader. It comes from a place of wanting her students to succeed and she helped me grow in and out of the classroom. I love Dee!
