Serious FREAK! how can you possibly expect so much from one class. you almost cant take any other class if you have her. plus in the end it seems like a total waste of time...for 170 dollars i expected to at least learn something
Very nice and helpful teacher. I didn't fall asleep once in her classes. 'B' without trying.
I think Economics stinks, but she makes it almost fun. Does more than just test, and other work is pretty easy.
just read the note, you will get A very easy. she is very helpful. her class is fun.

Very difficult class. Too much info in too short of time. Like a different language. She was OK, I think it was the subject that was so hard. But don't want to take anymore of her classes.
Great teacher! If you can not get at least a B in this class than you just aren't trying. She basically tells you exactly what to expect on the tests. Take her for both Economics classes if you can.
Yuck! She went too fast in lecture and gave lots of extra work. Didn't use the same book as the class or tell us where to read. She turned every term into an acronym and told you what it meant once and never again. Required a speech and 2 papers but gave a study sheet for the final. Take Barnes!
She doesn't give any homework on anything that's on the test, the lectures she gives if you go to every class will cover about 30% of the test, and she doesn't go out of the book, so how are you suppose to study for her tests. Class average of tests everytime: D. You do the math, she stinks

Best Econ teacher at ICC. YOU HAVE TO GO TO CLASS. Her test are out of the lecture, but she reviews this the class before the test, GREAT TEACHER.
Very tough class, and she is not always perfectly clear but she will explain it in greater detail if asked.
Lectures with different terms than in book(cost $145),you will fail practice tests(they're from the book) and you will probably get a D on the test (she gets multiple choice tests from a completely different Econ class just to mix things up)if you care about your grade or want to learn. someone else
NOT A GOOD TEACHER.
Not a very good online teacher. She makes the homework pretty easy and you can use your notes for test and quizes but she is not helpful at all. You really do not learn a whole lot. Do not take her for Econ if you are wanting to learn and understand.
The class is very hard, because you think you understand the material and then you take her test and get a C or D. I had never gotten below a B on a test and never got above a B on any of her tests. She definitely doesn't teach out of the book and her tests are HORRIBLE!
horrible teacher does not explain and is always late to class, then blames it on the clocks all being set for a diffrent time is not willing to help you
She was the worst teacher I have had so far at ICC, she tested from the textbook and taught out of the book. She also missed four days of class and it was a tuesday thursday class. I would not recommend this teacher.
I don't know what you people are talking about. The class by no means is easy but it is definitely easier than how you all describe it. All you have to do is study the notes she gives in class. That's what I did and I got an A in both classes.
I agree w/ all the others. Her teaching style needs help! She did not use the book or even know where to find the info in it. Plus she uses accronyms for all the terms & only explains them once. She told my class that she didn't enjoy her lower level econ classes when she was in school & she expects to have A students getting Ds in her class! Avoid
Terrible teacher. Makes you get the book because the questions are taken loosley from it but she doesn't discuss anything really related to the tests in the class. She makes you do all sorts of graphs but tests you on other things. Some quizes involve what she teaches but not much else. She's not really a good teacher.. at all. She should quit.
Horrible.. avoid at all costs .... also avoid Raley ... Fipel is the way to go when it comes to ECON
She is okay. But sometimes, I don't know where she comes up with the information, I can never find it in my book. She is also very wordy! She uses all these big vocabulary words and I get lost in what she is saying. PPF.....aggregate expediture model....and so on..but she is okay i guess..Thank God I don't have to take another class like this!
She is usually late to class and makes you buy the textbook even though you don't use it. Her lectures are easy to understand but her exams are nothing like what was presented. However she does give you some easy presentations etc. to bring your grade up. I would recommend her over Feipel though (She was on mat. leave - he was the sub.).
worst teacher i have ever had... late every day, doesnt teach a thing (though she thinks she does.) To top it off she gives impossible tests, acts like they will be easy then wonders why the class average is a 50%.
If you want a english, speach, and economics class all in one, you need to take Stauthammer's Econ 110 class. The bad part is, you only get 3 credits for it. In a way that could be good though, because the more credit it is worth, the farther it's going to bring down your GPA.
She is terrible!! Unclear, hard to follow, and does not follow the text!! And to make it even worse she believes that she is the funnest person alive when that is SO far from the truth. She also has no concept of time so be ready to stay 5 to 10 mins after class is over!
This class was the worst class, I am getting straight A's and an F in her class. You have like 4 tests all that which are hard, and some stupid quizes that dont even count really into your grade. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS!

She is not a horrible person deep down inside, but she is a horrible teacher. Tests are impossible, you can study the book or her notes and you will still score very low. And she likes her big gulps.
She is a very hard instructor, but she was always willing to help out when I had a question. Even though she was hard, I still learned a lot from the course.
Her class is not easy but it isn't too difficult either. You need to study your notes and the chapters that correlate in the book to do well on the tests. She did have some neat tidbits about our economy/government that related with what we were studying.
WORST Teacher ever! Stay away from her!!!
She has an ok personallity, but simply cannot teach the material well. She did not go by the book AT ALL (total waste of money). Plus she expects you to take notes off of everything that she speed-writes on the board. By the time I got half way thru writing she would be erasing it. I would have liked to use old test for study but she uses the dots
HOOOORRRRIBBBLLE!!!! I cannot even describe how bad it was. I took her class online. It was ridiculous! She doesn't even teach the class! You watch lessons on a very tedious DVD that you purchased for $100+. The tests are IMPOSSIBLE. The quizzes don't even count towards your grade and when you ask for help she offers... none. STAY AWAY!!!
I took this class as a minimester and I really liked her as a teacher. You do have to use the book to help study for the tests but she does give out sample questions for the tests. An easy A if you apply yourself.
Took her Econ 110 class 3 or 4 weeks then dropped it. She was habitually 3 to 5 mins late every day. As previously mentioned she would write acronyms and draw graphs on the board for 45 mins. I found the class difficult, but it would have helped if I had more talent for graphs and math. She's not a bad teacher but not really good either.
I enjoyed her teaching style.
She was a very interesting teacher. If you are looking to actually learn something, this is the class for you. However, you do have to put some effort into it. The final is a long paper but if you start it early it is no problem. If you dont mind a little extra work, you will learn a lot from Denise
Knows what she teachs
TAke good notes b/c you will need every single word graph and symbol she says and writes down on the board for the final paper that is on average 12-14 pages!! she knows what she talking about I she donsen't understand that you don't
Do not take this class from her, she is a terrible teacher. For those of you thinking I'm just an idiot, I'm in the honors program, and this class was still terrible. Whatever you study wont be on the test, and she never teaches what she tests on.
I can only speak for the online section, but as far as that goes she is a very poor teacher. She replied very slowly to messages if she bothered to reply at all. It just didn't seem like she wanted to teach an online class and therefore didn't put any effort into it. Announcements rarely posted. She Doesn't deserve pay for teaching that class.
I thought she was the worst teacher ever. I ended up dropping this class. She doesnt understand that while the material is easy for her it may not be easy for us. The tests were impossible. I did better on the tests if I just put C for everything. We tried to tell her we didnt understand but she ignored us. no help at all! And she is always late!
RUNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN!!!!
Teaches well and in a way you can understand. BUT - often cancels class without notice. Requires a lot of work (normal econ work + presentation + article/report) in comparison to other econ teachers. Tests are HARD and sometimes disconnect from her lecture. In all, not a bad teacher, but it's a LOT of work considering how few days we have class.
annoying voice and terrible teacher jumps all over the place
She was horrible. Jumps around a lot. Does not relate the information in class to the material you are tested on. Speeds through data sets but does not explain how they relate to the material in class. Talks down to the entire class. Missed 8 classes in a 16 week session. The tests were nothing like what she lectured on in class.
Great, as long as you dont want her to respond to you. I've sent 3 emails now, the first was over 3 months ago.. NOT ONE ANSWER... RUN.. Run far away
I took the class online. She was very organized. Everything was clear enough that I did not have to contact her at all. She is very helpful by making the final exam (which is comprehensive and difficult) weigh only 5% of the total grade, and she gives few chances for extra credit.
Lectures had little to almost nothing to do with the tests. She likes to simplify concepts, to the point that she over simplifies, making the real concept just as incomprehensible as it was in the begining if not more so.
Online class.. She was very generous with her grades.. Quiz and test for every chapter are easy, but the In-person Exam is hard. Two papers required... Many chances for extra credit.. Work hard you will get an A.
Probably wouldn't recommend her to anybody unless you already know a lot about economics. Hard to get ahold of, and does not explain things well. She does make sure in the end that you get a fair grade.
I took the summer on-line class of ECON 111. I averaged about 9 hours each week on reading the text, homework exercises, and taking quizzes and tests. The homework is not graded or required but I recommend doing these. If you can do the homework exercises you will do well on the quizzes and tests. You do 2 chapters each week plus two papers.
Horrible teacher in so many ways. I've been in school for 14 years now and never have I had a teacher that disappointed me this much. Impossible to reach, disorganized, unclear lecturing, these are the statements I would use to to describe her method. Loads of homework, but it doesnt count for anything (only 15% of your grade) DO NOT TAKE!!
READ THE TEXT BOOK! Everything, I mean EVERYTHING you need to know is in there. Her lectures can be interesting, however she is mildly disorganized. If you have to take this class take her, because the other professor is even worse, he is so disorganized!!
I thought she was interesting, helpful and an all round great teacher. I really enjoyed her class.
She covers all the material well and is helpful to people who don't understand. Her ratings should be higher. Perhaps it's just that she won't pass people who don't put any effort in. She also realizes that econ books are overpriced and worthless, so she made study notes available. Those cover all the material so the book is not needed at all.
Mrs. Stauthammer is an awesome teacher. She is very nice, and covers all the material that will be on the test. Just study your notes and do the workbook pages she gives you. She is super laid back also. Many students were late turning in papers and she still excepted them. You do need to study for exams, but it is a doable class. I got an A.
Teaching style was not my preference but she did alright. Sometimes the material on the test was not covered well or at all which was irritating. Had to write 2 papers and give a presentation which I did not like.
Took this class online. Econ is not an easy subject but Instructor Stauthammer made the experience bearable. Requires lots of reading and focusing on graphs and figures, but prepares you for the real economy. Very good teacher, would recommend.
I am currently taking her class. We all recieved our tests back and there were ALOT of long faces. D average. Same as last exam. She uses a note book she wrote which has misspelling errors and math errors. And forget about studying for a test, the terms in her notes dont correlate to the test what so ever. Im boned. I hope I can get a pitty C.
This class is hard. I study and typically get an understanding of the material I am taking. Not this class. I find myself watching youtube and googling hints and tips on how to do the work and study for the tests. Im no straight A student but can easily pull A's and B's. If I had background info I would have taken a different professor. Pray 4 me
Tough class, but if you truly work at it then you should be fine.
I took this class online over the summer session, and it was very tough. I would not recommend. Went completely off course compass, each chapter had a very poorly put together lecture (a word doc w/ 1 or 2 paragraphs). She did answer quickly to questions but it was never helpful looked like copy & past from the text book. Take someone else!
This class is a joke to say the least. I took this online. Everything is on course compass. She takes about 2 days to answer questions. She doesn't offer any guidelines to studying. There is no discussion. You're basically on your own. Good luck.
Took as an online course. She did not teach the class, the website did. If you read the chapters and do the practice questions the class isn't too hard. Hardly spent any time on it and got an easy B. The quizzes are based off of the practice questions. Tests are harder than the quizzes.
Good teacher, really knows what she's doing. Teaches each concept slowly. Doesn't require a textbook. Requires a little bit of homework, one paper and one speech. If you attend and pay attention class should be easy. I got an A. Much better than the other econ teacher- at least her test terms correspond to her lectures!
tries to engage class but material is just hard and she doesn't make it any easier
Writes terrible quizzes and tests. She expects you to grasp what she teaches then be able to apply it to very complex ideas. Once you get used to her she isnt terrible, but I would recommend Fipel.
I took her online class. I found it very interesting but complex. She reopened my test when my computer crashed and gave me 2 extra days.Great class, don't take unless you want to learn this stuff.
She's never there so it makes it very hard to grasp concepts since the other ECON teacher replaces her and they teach completely different. But she does help you when you get stuck on a test question. Test are confusing and the workbook doesnt really help
You must be an independent and disciplined student to do well in this course. It will take up a lot of time what with all the readings, discussion board posts, quizzes, and tests assigned every week. Do the practice problems on the companion site since that's where quiz and test questions come from. She does offer extra credit. Read the book!
Teaches clearly and goes over multiple examples of concepts. If you study a little and make sure to understand the concepts, it's not too hard to get a good grade, especially since she often makes some test questions extra credit after the fact. After half the class failed a test, she assigned an in-class review worth 10 bonus percentage points.
She is a decent teacher but she never responded to any of my emails when I had questions. She is very hard to get a hold of. The class was not that hard and we got to take all of the quizzes up to 3 times. The problem was that the website we used had questions that were not always fair but she was not very active in correcting them.
Great professor, knows what she is talking about. Just not very good at emailing back, or giving feedback on tests or assignments. If you don't show to class you lose out on notes which are essential.
Miss Stauthammer is a pretty good economics teacher. I also took her microeconomics class before taking her macroeconomics class. I found macro to be a lot more difficult, but I still got an A in the class. The class was online so she was kind of hard to get a hold of but she is a good grader and gave us six tries on quizzes.
great teacher sometimes the lectures were a little confusing but overall i loved the class and the atmousphere
She was fine, very honest that her class was boring just based on the subject matter. But she was very willing to help if you needed it. I would take her again if I had to. DON'T BUY THE BOOK!
Stauthammer can be funny and is very honest. But shes tough, If you want a course that you need to pay attention to the entire time for lecture, than this is it. Tests are hard, because there is so much material. You will not need the book if you get what shes talking about, I only needed it once or twice the entire semester.
This teacher literally writes every where, like oh my god if she had organized note taking it would be so much better. That is about the only negative thing about her. Get ready to review your notes to pass with a good grade. If you don't understand something ASK QUESTIONS she is really good at explaining things. She's very nice and laid back.
Stauthammer is an alright professor who is trying to make sense of a concept that is already messy. She truly cares about her students and will try to make things as clear as possible. I thought I was going to fail the class at first and ended up with an A.
Unorganized note taker!! Don't rely on headings or clear definitions, mostly graphs. I used the book to help me with the online quizzes for better definitions. There are test reviews the class before a test that is group work. Most test questions come from that review or the online quizzes. If you review those you should be fine for her tests.
While I give it that the class itself was very difficult, she didn't make it any better. The lectures were always disorganize and extremely boring. 100% of the class was a lecture and any group time for homework or projects were rushed. She had troubles with attending class with being late most of the time and wouldn't show up on exam dates.
Taken online so probably more difficult than in class. Lots of homework and practice but clear grading and when thought I had a B for the final was surprised that she graded on a curve at the end so I ended up with an A. Hard course but it is economics. Be ready to graph and read graphs!
Stauthammer knows her stuff but can be all over the place when it comes to lecture notes. Homework can be very time consuming but its all do before the test so if you pace yourself you'll be fine. Test can be kinda tricky you have to study and make sure you know how to use the graphs she draws. She also missed a lot of days so that rushed the class
I would recommend Professor Stauthammer! I took her class online and all assignments were on Connect. No tests or final, just quizzes over each chapter. There are a few assignments each week, but they were pretty easy. She opens everything early and allows you to work ahead. Good course and would recommend this professor's format!
I took a minimester for ECON111 after taking ECON110 last semester and Professor Stauthammer was a good choice both times! All assignments on Connect, a few assignments and a quiz each week, and no tests or final required. She is responsive to emails, good at posting reminders, and opens everything ahead of time. Overall would recommend her class!
Unless you plan to sink your entire life into the class, don't take it with her. I understand that 8wk classes are rough. She says plan on 18-24hrs/wk on this class. Insane if you have multiple other classes/any bit of a life outside of class. She'll also drop your grade at the end of the semester. 73.4%-67.1% w/ no assignments left to bring it up.
I really wouldn't take this class, don't get me wrong I understand I took an 8-week class but her 8-week class compared to my others is way different. you have to spend 1.5 plus hours sometimes 2.5 on just 1 of the 8 assignments you have due that week. the quizzes and video questions are super easy. but the homework and others is so hard. DONT TAKE
Tons and tons of work. Also huge 80 and 90 concept SmartBook assignments that you don't even get points for, but are required. I am in an 8-week class but you'll probably be stuck doing work every single day otherwise you will fall behind. Definitely recommend taking econ with another professor if possible.
This class itself was not great at all. I understand I took an 8week course but this was horrible. I have taken a 4 week class that was not as work heavy as this one. The Adaptive learning assignments are easy but take over 2 hours with average of 100 concepts to learn. I spent over 30 hours a week on this class. Will not be taking them again!
This class was online for me so it wasn't that bad. There was just a lot of work since it was all online but as long as you do the work each week it is okay. All the due dates were clear and everything was organized.
There wasn't a lot of interaction with the professor since it was an online course, but she is probably the best econ professor to take at ICC.
She was a very laid back and nice teacher. Always answered questions, didn't give a huge work load, and gave extra credit at the end of the semester. I took the hybrid course, would recommend.
Genuinely no idea how she has bad ratings, at least for online classes. I've taken two econs with her - SO easy and you just Google everything. Definitely not the class for you if you need to LEARN the material though. She's always been very nice about opening up late deadlines and an easy grader on projects. Super sweet every time I email her!
Economy is a tough subject to grasp, but this course was helpful. Pretty straightforward and fair grading. I like how you get three attempts per problem on homework and it keeps the highest score. Overall this class made me think a lot and was very rewarding to finish. I learned many things I've always wanted to know about in real world markets.
