Very cool teacher. Mrs. Toland is the best, very easy, very fun and quite informative but that doesn't mean she's a knock off...go to class and turn your stuff in and the course should be an very enjoyable A.

You can tell that she puts a lot of thought into making the course interesting. You're not relegated to learning only from the text book and she has a nice way of making English appeal to you. I would recommend her to anyone!!!

Prof. Tolan is awesome!!! But if you are looking for a knock-off class, this is not it. You get what you give in her class. She's VERY fair and very easy to communicate with. I would take every class she offered if I could.

She is the best teacher I have ever had and she has been an inspiration to me. Her teaching style is very funny and she can make anything interesting. All in all, she is just a wonderful teacher and I always recommend her classes to everyone.

Denise is the best teacher I have ever had. She is the reason that I am pursuing my degree in English. If I could have her for every English class from now on, I would. However, slackers will not succeed in this class. You earn the grade that you work for!

one of the best teachers ever. she is very nice, and she really cares for her students. you will always get a second chance in her class, and as long as you do your work, you will walk out with an A. sign up for her class, as fast as you can, because its hard to get in her classes

Great instructor. Did a lot of reading in this class. She helped you understand literature. Easy class, just keep up with your reading assignments or your assigned papers. She also grades easy. Fun class, very informational. Would take her again if I had to take another english class.

Very smart and is able to keep her students interested. I've taken her for two different courses and it has been a great experience both times. I wish more instructors were as smart as her.

You will need to read the stories. I did it on the internet in a summer school class and it was a lot of work still. The final project is a big big long piece of work. Start as soon as it is posted on the bored. Also don't forget to do the discussion board questions; a very big must!

Awesome instructor. She is incredibly nice and keeps the class interesting with group discussion/interpretation. Of course you will need to do the reading, this is an English course lol. Highly recommended!!!!

Mrs. Tolan is great, she teaches you how to write, and she will work with you if you accidently mess up. You're awesome Mrs. Tolan!

She is without a doubt one of the best professors on campus. Though her classes aren't the easiest, she'll go out of her way to help anyone taking her class. As far as I'm concerned, she sets the standard for how professors should be.

Wonderful teacher. Kept up with all the postings. Actually posted replies all through the semester. Very involved with her students. Exemplary Teacher!!! Take her class if you can get in. Her online American Lit. class filled up by 10AM the first day of registration. Good Luck.

Absolutely wonderful teacher. She cares about her students success. If you have a block, she will help you through it. I was not at all confident with my writing skills, but she helped me to put those feelings aside. She helped me to grow as a writer. If I had to take more writing classes, I definetely would take them with Denise!

I took American Literature online with her. It requires alot of reading but she made the discussions and paper fun. You do have to work for your grade but it's worth taking her class.

She is WONDERFUL! A lot of reading but the material is awesome. If you have problems, she will practically race to help you. I had no problems getting in touch with her and she absolutely made the class fun. Take her or Julie Bajusz (her best friend) and you will love American Lit.

Excellent instructor. The last time I had an English class was in 1985. Mrs. Tolan provided positive reinforcement. I would highly recommend to anyone. I would take her if she taught American Lit II.

Internet Class... she is a great teacher... very fair when grading... u will need a lot of time to read and write papers... papers are pretty easy but i'm just not a writer ... overall good experience!

She was great! Always willing to help. Took class internet/flex. Reading is intense at first since it was a flex class. Hang in there and keep up with the reading and postings and you will do fine! Need help, just call, email, or visit her office.

Mrs. Denise is a wonderful professor. She has a great format for an online English course, and I'm sure she's just as good or better in a face to face environment. She's available and eager to help, puts a lot of emphasis on how much effort is put forth, and less on what your paper actually looks like. If you do your best, she'll do hers.

Great instructor. I would definitely take her again if given the chance. I took her online 1302 class and it was pretty laid back. She wanted us to write in our own style instead of the stuffy academic style. It is a bit writing intensive, but it's not so bad if you pace yourself and don't procrastinate too much.

Loved her!! The best english teacher I have ever had. I took her online flex class and she was very clear and very helpful. When I had anything come up she was very understanding. I highly recommend her!!

I took this class as a spring Flex 1 online, and it was very intense, logging on frequently was a must. There was about 3 or 4 assignments due a week, but that included the discussion assignments. The work was very simple if you read the assignments given. She's very helpful, loves teaching, and wants you to succeed and pass btw she's GREAT!

By far the best teacher at Northwest vista. It is very hard to find a teacher like Mrs.Denise, she is caring and loves what she does. If you take her you will be happy you did. I'm not even good at English and she made me like it. Thank you Mrs. Denise for being such a great teacher.

This lady needs teacher of the year award or something. It is very rare that you find a teacher that actually loves what she does. I hate english and I dreaded this class but once I was in the class I actually started to like it. I got an A and that's saying a lot considering I didn't want to be there at first.

Love Mrs. Tolan!! My all time favorite teacher EVER! I had her for online Flex I class in spring and I was amazed at how detailed and organized she was. Also, she fostered a positive online class community which is hard to do period, and even more so online. I would take her for all my English classes. I nominated her for #1 teacher at NVC

She's an amazing professor. All of the positive feedback is justified. If you have the opportunity, enroll in her class. You'll be a better writer for it.

Good teacher, but if you work, or have other obligation, I don't suggest taking this class online! You have new assignments every Wednesday, and everything must be turned in by this day as well. The work isn't hard, but it can seem like a lot. Overall, good teacher.

Took her online; excellent teacher. She was very involved, very positive and helpful. Online courses are often hard to connect as a class but she did a great job pulling us together! Loved this class and wish she taught Am Lit II

If you are taking Eng 1301 this is the professor you need to taking. She's very helpfull, understandong and amazing! As long you do your work, you wil do great.4 major essay, You have the opportuniy to make up for late work. She definatly needs to be nominated for the professor of the YEAR!!

I took this flex, so having a lot of readingpapers was expected. I was initially overwhelmed with the amount of work, but it was so much fun. The readings were interesting and the assignments helped me to tap into my creativity. Even if you don't need this class, I would recommend it with Denise. I have never met her face-to-face, but she is fun!

Professor Tolan is one of the best professors I have ever had, hands down. I'm not gonna lie, the class was not easy with all the writing, but I believe that was mostly because I took an 8-week class. She was engaging, patient, and understanding, and was with us all the way. I really appreciate her and strongly recommend her.

She is such a great teacher! If you miss a dead line she will still let you turn stuff in with no points taken off. Lets you re-do papers often. Great teacher!

Professor Tolman is an amazing professor and an even more amazing person. I was sad when this class ended. The class I took was creative writing and I grew SO much as a writer. This professor insoles and teaches with heart and wisdom.

Ms. Tolan is very helpful when it comes to helping you write. She takes her time with us and gives us thorough instructions to help us understand the prompts. Excellent teacher, would take one of her classes again!

This was a solid class. Prof Tolan is an amazing teacher and I actually learned a lot of things. She is caring and super responsive. I just wouldn't recommend taking a flex course with her because it really was a lot of work. I would take her class again though

Professor Tolan is a great teacher. Took her class online as a Flex course. At first the discussions seemed to be a lot but once you get used to them its not that bad. She provides feedback which helps a lot. She is very fair and helpful. I would recommend taking her class.

Ms. Tolan is a great professor, she presents the material clearly, and she guides you through it as well. This course does require a lot of participation, but it helps you do better in the class and in the essay papers. I enjoyed this course and I would take it again!

I took flex course, so there was a lot of work but it was manageable. Although online, she makes the course upbeat and very interactive. I thoroughly enjoyed this class. I would recommend her for English courses especially those tight on time and needing an online class. She is very responsive to emails. Just do the work and you will be fine.

Prof. Tolan is an excellent professor. Took flex 2 online. Assignments and papers are manageable. She is clear on submitting discussions and providing grading rubric for assignments and papers. Gives good feedback, and responds to questions. You do need to put in the work to earn the grade. I'd recommend taking her class.

Amazing Prof. Took her for Spring 2019 Flex I online and all you had to do was participate in the discussions and show understanding of the material. If you struggle you can meet with her in person or call her for advice. This professor made me love my favorite subject, even more, HIGHLY recommend her!!

Professor Tolan was great. She is clear about expectations, gives good feedback, and is very responsive. You do have to participate regularly and can't just submit all your work in one day. Although this is a bummer for online students, it forces you to be committed to your homework and class. I really liked the topics we covered too.

It might be getting ahead of myself since I'm only in wk 2. I like professor Tolan I took an online class, in announcements, she would say things, "It's better to reach out than drop away. I'm here." which made me feel more assured. She does bi-weekly discussion board, reader-response which I'm getting used to 3 projects throughout the year

Excellent professor! Communication was great. Explaining and understanding assignments was a breeze. Of you don't understand something she is more than willing to set time aside to assist.

Just started the semester with her and I can already see that she is an amazing professor. Last semester I had an awful experience with my composition professor and I must say that it's so refreshing to have a professor who actually teaches the class this semester. She clearly states the instructions and is always willing to help! :)

IDEAL PROFESSOR. Encouraging, Understanding. Took the course online during full spring term. The pace is easily manageable within a full-time class schedule. Assignments are neat, USEFUL, and allowing of creativity. Tolan gives opportunities to succeed in her class by allowing you to make up assignments and by providing beneficial criticism.

She is a wonderful person, and a great professor. Pay attention to the week's summary in slides, those will be the keys to every assignment. Discussion posts are specific in how many words you post and reply. But as soon as you understand those main things, it will be smooth sailing! Definitely take her! You will not regret!

She is SO good. She cares about her students so much and will help any way she can. Of course there are writing assignments, it's a writing class, and papers are required by the state. She makes them fun by letting you pick the topics. I wish I could have more courses with her!

I really enjoyed Prof. Tolan's prompts during my creative writing course. They were engaging, challenging, and motivated me to really dig deep when I was writing. She left helpful feedback and encouraged us to do the same for our classmates during our workshops. Overall, it was an awesome course and I wish there was a Creative writing 2!

Mrs. Tolan was an excellent teacher. She was clear about what her expectations were and grading criteria on each assignment. There was a few papers to write but it was clearly directed and simple to complete if you put in time to do the work. She cares about her students and provides excellent feedback. Highly recommend and would take her again.

Prof. Tolan is amazing! She is clear with all assignments, respectful of boundaries and understanding.3 projects the whole 16 week semester, gives plenty of time and all fun and engaging. Chapter responses almost every week, very easy. small group work assignment weekly, very easy. Gives great feedback and does not make you feel dumb. Take her!!

Be ready to write longer discussions, 2 peer reviews, and can't be done in 1 day. Besides that, the essays were topics of your choice, assignments & quizzes are a breeze. She gives great feedback on discussions & assignments. She allows late work and will even let you resubmit for higher grade if you missed something. She is awesome!

Prof. Tolan was pretty good, I made the mistake of taking her at 9am Friday morning so he energy was just too much for me that early. She gives good feedback, and grade somewhat timely. Had 3 essays and she allowed us to write in our own voice. She was a good prof, just not for 9 am if you are not a morning person lol.
