she speaks fast.
exams too difficult
She tries hard but doesn't get it. Lectures hard to follow. Bad tests

Lovin
She tries hard but simply can't concentrate on one topic, can't teach
hard tests, doesn't follow readings for lectures much
Great class- got a lot out of it
No Comments
can't teach, stay away from
Nice woman, but she speaks really fast and has a tendency to go off-topic.
She tries really hard. She speaks fast and you must study to pass the exams and cross your fingers.
Talks too fast, doesn't really help you, very unclear, tells one seminar class one thing and the other seminar class another thing. Hard exams!
Really funny! she is entertaining and really nice. Sometimes goes off topic but it's alright. She made me want to major!
talk way too fast, goes off topic, however sometimes interesting. she picks the hard multiple choice questions!
no real direction, stay away in the first year courses or she will turn you off these courses
She gets off topics a lot, and her lecture notes are disorganized. Exams are fair.
Had her for 3 Classes Very Fun teacher. Makes Class enjoyable. DOES go off-topic and talks way to fast, but tests are from the textbook anyway, so it doesn't matter
If english is your first language then she doesn't talk fast at all. Teaches from the text, how more organized can you get? Fun enviroment she takes the time to make things clear.
hard tests, organized somewhat, talks too fast
Denise is a great psych teacher, fun and informative. Her classes are full of robust debate, and her students are encouraged to ask many questions. I recomend Denise for anyone looking for more Psych credits. :)
denise is awesome. she is too hot to be a teacher, kind of distracting. but she is so fun in class, and her tests are good if you study for them.
Cute, funny, interesting, dedicated, animated. Most fun I've had in a course in a couple of years.
If you can keep up she's awesome...talks real fast! Denise is one of the most knowlegable profs I have had. No surprises on the tests, just keep notes and remeber the examples and names of any researcher she applies to these examples...
very nice
UGH..I'm sorry but she needs to be a bit more organized before she opens her mouth. Her ever changing sentences and "umm"'s drive me nuts. Her notes suck and are too vague..just read the text.I love psych but I can't stand her as a psych teacher..Her classes are BOOORIIINNG.& I didnt learn much.
Very nice person. Good prof, very knowledgeble and into class material, definitly recommend.
very nice, a little scattered, but butchered my assignments when marking them, lowest mark ever!!
She is a very nice lady...but can be really harsh..not very helpfull especially 211 very picky and harsh marker. 230 read the text you'll do fine
She isn't organized, she has horrible notes, she is a hard maker, and good luck on her tests. I was not pleased with the way she explained things in class or how she selected material that was on our tests... unfortunately i am now re-doing the class :(
all i have to say is she is a terrible teacher, she is totally unfair and i cnat handle her.
I actually thought this class was alright. I just studied the textbook and class notes and got an A- on the final. I e-mailed her to clarify what she wanted on assignments and did just fine. If you ask for help, she will help you. If you do not, you may not be understanding exactly what she wants.
No I dont think so. She's cute but this class doesn't work, there needs to be more interaction and the tests are pointless. read the text and your back in phys ed class in highschool ...this could be a way better class if some thought was put into it.
Her exams are really tough, but if u know the text inside out you'll do fine!
She talks too fast and gets too excited. She is unclear on what she wants on her assignments, and marks very hard. Her lecture notes seem to be unorganized. The beginning of the semester is easy, but in the second half, there is a huge build up of work with assignments and final projects due each week. Avoid taking her unless you must
she's an awesome teacher
great teacher. she is very excitable and tends to go off topic, but thats what makes her classes interesting. you never know where her lectures will lead. tests are easy, very fair questions, just read the book.
Super nice teacher, but tests are way too hard. Unless you memorize the textbook inside out its hard to get a good grade. She thought a class average of 63% was exceptionally high
She's interested in her topic and excited to teach it, which is good, but my god, she has the worst organized powerpoint slides/ lectures I have EVER come across! She's alright as a teacher and I think I would have enjoyed her a lot more if it was a more interesting class. As it was I disliked it.
Research methods in general is a dull course, but her terrible powerpoints dont help much. She talks a lot and goes off subject much of the time. Least favorite class.
She has a bubbly personality. She is a great prof but she goes off topic quite often after every new powerpoint slide and gives really long examples. Overall, she makes sure you know the stuff.
Denise has a strong personality and is really helpful. She wants the best out of her students and tries to be fair as possible. She made learning research methods not so dull!
she's okay
She goes off topic a lot but as long as you read the textbook before the test you'll be fine. She's extremely nice and friendly and is very excited about pshyc which makes it more interestig. Her classes are actually fun because she makes them fun.
power points aren't that great she goes off topic and talks a lot. Be sure to sit somewhere near the front she isn't very loud however she isn't completely dull
I took human sexuality with denise and it was pretty easy, as the exams are all multiple choice with the exception of a couple diagrams to label. Super high textbook usage, you can't not have it. Her exam questions were about 80% textbook, 20% in class. Fun class, but lots of reading and memorizing random facts for exams.
A very difficult class. I took it as an elective as i thought it would be enjoyable, however it kicked my butt. its very detailed and you have to put a lot of time into studying for this class. Understandable, i just wasnt expecting it. Dont take it unless its a required course for you, or else your just adding a lot of work load as an elective
She was okay. I found her lectures to be dry and her notes weren't very much help. You definitely need to read the textbook and try doing the question after each chapter. Also make sure you study her worksheets, a lot of the questions for tests come straight out of there.
Denise is a very helpful professor willing to explain any concept. Her course was quite easy if you did the readings and asked for clarification where needed. She was one of my favorite professors at TRU! Denise is very bubbly, speaks clearly and loud enough for all to hear, but sometimes talks too fast. She is very passionate about teaching psyc!!
Denise is a nice person and approachable, making her a helpful prof. However, her class lectures were terrible in my opinion. Her powerpoint slides are useless; you might as well just be reading the textbook. She goes off topic way too often, resulting in confusion as to what information is actually relevant. I would not recommend this class.
I took a 3 hour class with her and it felt like forever. She is a sweet person but I would not want to take her class again. She interrupts herself so much, and most of the lectures are based on personal stories (which is interesting, but not very helpful). She likes skip certain information so you are forced to go through the book on your own time
She is an amazing professor. Test are what you would except as a university student. The longer you study the better your grade.
Very nice person and really passionate about the course content. Reading the book chapters and her notes is a must if you would like a good grade. Asks a lot about statistics in her tests. Overall, very good prof and will clarify and help out if need be. Would recommend her for human sexuality.
Denise is my all-time favourite professor. She made the material interesting and so easy to understand. She gave us tons of information about what to expect on upcoming tests. The tests were all multiple choice and so simple if you showed up to class. The same went for PSYC 1210. I wish I could take all of my classes with her!
Denise is really nice. She's really easy to talk to and she's there for help if you need it. Her lectures can be a little boring, and she often goes off on tangents that don't have much to do with the course material. Most tests are multiple choice, and as long as you read the textbook it's a pretty simple course. I would take another class withher
I liked Denise. She had a huge passion for psychology and tried to make the lectures interesting and fun. She related a lot of the work to her personal life though, and her slides were pointless as it was all in the textbook anyways. If you spent plenty of time studying the textbook her tests weren't difficult.
I really enjoyed taking her Abnormal psyc class. She made lectures fun by telling lots of stories and showing videos, it was never a boring class. She made the content interesting. I would love to take another class with her. She could make any class fun. And she genuinely cares about each student which is a nice change.
I love Denise!
I have attended College of New Caledonia, Simon Fraser University, and Now Thompson Rivers University, I have now been in Denise Weisgerbers classes twice now, and i would Highly recommend her classes, witty, smart, and she talks through antidotes of personal experiences, its been a pleasure attending T.R.U. because of her! thanks Denise!
I really do not enjoy her teaching style at all. I am normally a straight A student. and I found myself struggle a bit in her class. only covers the material she is interested in and says you are responsible for the rest. if i had known i was paying to teach myself i never would have taken her class. Lazy teaching style
Denise is very good at her job. However, she can get a little off topic sometimes. If youre not into a prof that lectures only half the material and then expects you to learn the rest, then I would not recommend you take her classes. Only multiple choice tests (75 questions, 4 major tests).
Denise was very nice, I loved that all you had to do was study and do tests tome thats the perfect class ever :). However she was hard to reach outside of school, she did not inform you about a test which screwed me over.
Although Denise makes you work hard for a good grade, she's an incredible prof! My midterm was 30% and final was 40% of my grade in 2110, so read the textbook and make sure to show up to class. She posts lecture notes, so check them out if you miss a class. She'll often teach outside of the textbook, so this is super important.
Lots of notes on the more important stuff. The textbook wasn't used much in class, but it helps to read the chapters. We took lots of notes and there were no group projects, which I enjoyed. Super funny and caring lady.
Very caring. Loved her lectures. You have to put in the work to do well, but Denise is a true gem.
Great personality, talks a lot about material and also off topic, loved that there was no official final exam just last test on all material after the last midterm.
I want her to be my prof for every course! Ive had her twice now & every chance I get I will choose her. When it came to midterms, she would create a practice test of 10 questions for us a couple days before, & then shed choose 5 questions from said test & add it to the exam -super helpful! Her lectures were intriguing & she is really passionate
Denise is so passionate about the material she teaches! She is very straightforward about what is going to be on the test! Lots of textbook use as well For my class she used Launchpad, which was a very expensive online program, but she does not use it for all classes. Launchpad comes with an online textbook, so don't waste money on a paper copy
Denise is a good teacher and an amazing person. But I think that her exams are the worst. Not even because of the content, but you have like 80 questions for 90 minutes. I only gives like a minute per question and I think that´s not a good strategy of evaluation. If you really want to know if your student knows about your class, that´s not the way.
If you are wanting to take any class of Denise's online... don't. Her moodle shell is all over the place. There is NO communication. She does not understand the simplest questions you may have. You are left GUESSING on everything. She does not teach, she tells you what chapter, and you are left to figure it out yourself.
I don't know if she's better in person but her online class format is a dumpster fire. Changed assignment criteria on the Sunday a major assignment was due, no communication, get ready to guess what she wants for every assignment and then get an unfair grade when you can't read her mind. Bizarre and useless group discussions. Run far away.
Online class format is horrible. Get ready to teach yourself through the textbook. Bi-weekly group discussions that are useless and do not help your learning whatsoever. She is so unorganized and her grading criteria is unclear. Do NOT take her if possible.
I took both PSYC 2110 and 2160 with Denise. Her online class had heavy workload every week. She is a tough grader and you need to work hard to get A in her class. However, she is a caring professor and provides clear grading criteria for every assignment/test. If you don't want to read textbooks and outside materials, you won't do well in the class
PSYC2110 was a bit all over the place with the online format and Denise is definitely a tough grader but once you get a hang of her expectations, you can do well. Assignment feedback was slow but she gives plenty of opportunities outside the class to ask questions. Participation is key and it's important to be precise and accurate in assignments.
One of the toughest graders I have ever seen. The feedback she gives are also one-line remarks which don't help much. Her teaching style is fine, not the best but not the worst either. Exams are hard in her class but the assignments are even harder. I have never looked at the professor's name before I chose a class but imma do it now to escape her
Is not bad at teaching. That said, her exams are very tough. Her expectations from you on assignments are also super high. My lowest grades have come from her class.
Good enough teaching style, makes sure students understand before moving on. Bad at responding to emails and rescheduling exams. The exams were not easy at all, but the labs are easy so long as you understand the lesson before it. I would take a course from her again now that I know the difficulty level of exams.
I have only had three weeks with her so far and I already want to drop out. I asked multiple questions and she can't offer simple answers. Tests you on all material in textbook so you have to teach yourself. Why am I paying her to teach me when she just makes me teach myself through the textbook. Don't recommend.
Nice professor but her slides dont make any sense since they arent up to date with the new textbook. You are pretty much teaching yourself in this course as going to le cture only helps sometimes or it will just. make you even more confused. So make sure you read and actually understand what. you are doing.
Get ready to teach yourself
-Goes on tangents constantly, somewhat related somewhat not. -Her PowerPoint notes do not line up with the textbook (nor has she checked the textbook in the last few years apparently /23). -Barely covered some chapters; completely skipped another but wanted us to teach ourselves it before the exam -Tests are super heavy
During her lectures, she constantly goes on tangents about things that are (in most cases) unrelated. Nothing she teaches lines up with the textbook, her material is extremely difficult and expects you to get every little thing perfect. Worst class I've taken and got my lowest mark ever from her class. I hope I don't have her as a professor again.
GET READY TO TEACH YOURSELF. Horrible professor is useless for asking for help and gives you no reviews or anything for the test. Test heavy and also be ready to be more confused then you were before the class because her lectures are all over the place.
Get ready to teach yourself a horrible professor goes all over the place so you are more confused. WORSE prof ever
Expects to know eveything she does not teach in class. The textbook does not line up with slides at all. Hard to get a hold of via email or office hours. Her tests and assignments are unreasonably hard. My lowest grades come from her classes. She's a lovley lady though just not a great proffessor in my opinion.
Denise as a person is lovely. As a prof, she is very hard to learn from. If you don't read the textbook and take notes on it, you will not do well. If you don't attend class and take notes on what she says, you will not do well. Very tough grader, can be very condecending, spends a lot of time going off topic and is poor at time management.
Denise is very clear & fair prof. Her exams were not difficult, so long as u memorize the slides & read the textbook (they don't line up exactly but all the info is in there). Super strict on APA formatting, including lab assignments, so follow the guidelines to avoid losing easy marks. Pay attention to the experiments discussed in class (testable)
I think she is a lovely person. Outside of class she is amazing to talk to. In class though I don't recommend her as a prof. Her tests are extremely difficult, the textbook doesn't align with what she's teaching. She also has assignments with high commitment level and she marks with a fine attention to detail. Don't take her with 4 other classes.
She is a kind person but a horrible teacher. Her class average for the first exam was 40% I'm not sure about the second probably not far off if not the same. She is very vague in explaining what she wants from you in every aspect, especially assignments. I recommend saving yourself and taking anyone else. Your GPA will thank you.
Very well organized and has great knowledge in the field, which I admire. One of the harder profs grading wise. She loves APA and will take off marks for any and all issues if not done correctly, so make sure you're well rounded in APA formatting. I have taken a few of her courses and I like her lecture style and slides.
She is a nice person but overall her class was a horrible experience. After taking notes on lecture and textbook, doing cue cards and spending so much time studying, I could not seem to do good on her tests. She is very test heavy and isn't clear on what will be on a test making it extremely hard to do well. Would not take again.
Nice lady, but the notes are a direct copy and paste from the textbook (and manage to cover nothing). She makes us read the textbook claiming that's what the questions are on, however, it over 50% of the questions are not discussed in the textbook and are nowhere to be found in her notes.
Very nice person, however I found it extremely difficult to do well in her class. Her note material was very brief and she was overall very vague about what she expected you to know for exams. Very reading heavy with the textbook, which doesn't line up with her note material. Felt like I was teaching myself most of the class. Would not recommend.
She is one of the mandatory intro to psych professors, and to simply put, if you are someone who struggles with tests in any capacity her courses may be hard. She's also not the greatest at practising the ethical foundations of mental health practices she is supposed to be teaching, so warning for potential triggers in her class.
She is sweet but a very bad grader. Her requirements aren't clear, she gave people a bad grade, somehow? Even after doing exactly what she said. Her tests are hard for no reason? Grades them hard and you even need to buy a $60 book. She will barely mention anything from there in her lectures but expects you to know it all for the test.
