Very nice guy, always willing to help a student.
hard to follow
HATE HIM! HATE HIM! HATE HIM!!!!
He is one of the worst instructors at Bryant. Avoid him if possible.
I did not learn anything from his class. One of the worst!
I despise him
helpful and intelligent professor
Doesn't really teach, just assigns problems and will spend the whole class doing out the problem without clearly explaining what he's doing.
Very helpful and clear, easy class.
He sucks less than other professors.
I DESPISE BLINE
Worst teacher in the world. Its sad that students pay so much a year and get a person like this who puts no effort into his teaching. He is very unhelpful and confusing he definetly does not earn his salary.
Who ever wrote this ratings must be a moran. Prof. Bline, is very simple, clear, and fair. I have not lost a point all semester. If your looking for a good teacher with not that much work take Bline.
Cant believe these ratings. This teacher is awesome. He makes his class very easy and he is a fair teacher. His tests are not hard at all if you study and same with the quizzes that he gives. Also there is barely any homework and he goes over it in class.
only thing worse than accounting, is an accountant... with turrets syndrome. probably a fun guy back in the sixties. wears the same sweatsuit jacket everyday and talks about his flanel blanket business. all washed up. terrible
Not too bad of an accounting class. There are worse teachers. I bombed the final and still got a B. Just know how to do the major problems in each chapter and know the ratios.
HARD! Unless things come easy to you, dont take BLINE!
He was so hard to follow and understand that I had to drop his class. He reminds me of a robot and has no clue what he is doing
The BEST! everyone stop complaining. He is an accounting genious and a great person. you should be honored to have taken a class with Dennis Bline.
2nd worst professor I've had in my college career. Class is boring, examples are all over the place, and the homework doesn't prepare you for the test. Enough about your wife's blanket business. Thumbs down. I currently have a 3.8 GPA.
Had him 2 times in grad school, he is pretty awful at teaching Accounting and def smoked something in his day, by his endless twitching and sniffling. Also the Adidas jacket needs to go, you'll get a B or higher though regardless.
I hated taking his Cost Accounting Class. The first exam was on NINE chapters. It was just awful,I had to drop the class, so my GPA would suffer. Not very friendly either, he's a bit full of himself.
He really isn't that bad. If you do the homework & ask him to review the ones you didnt get (he goes over hw for a whole class) you'll do fine. The quizzes come right from the hw so it's wicked easy to get 100 on those. just do the hw & ur fine!!
I took this guy for Financial Accounting, he was so hard to follow! he is also very unhelpful, and very concieted. ugh. Take Witner for Financial Accounting but avoid this guy if you can. Btw, he is definitaly on some kind of drugs.
He actually teaches. The material is hard, but he tries his best to simplify everything. Pretty good teacher
What are the complaints? He teaches what you need to know and then quizes and tests you on it? NO surprises at all. Drops lowest quiz grade (all easy anyway) and tests are just like quizes. If you've never taken accounting before he's your man!
worst professor on campus
difficult to follow, especially if it's your first exposure to accounting. his tests and quizzes can be easy if you know what to study. i learned alot and got a B+ so i can't say he's bad just be prepared to work
Take this professor only if you are female. I have talked to many males who suffered in his class. I have talked to many females who enjoyed him. He is ambiguos in defining requirements on hir term paper and his test are ludicrous with no regard for the student's schedule. Avoid at all costs.
really nice guy. Very helpful. Will keep going over it until you get it. Class is not that boring. You have 9 quizzes, he counts 7 of them. 3 tests. Hes a good guy. I want to take him again
Good professor. If you read the text before class everything will be very clear. The tests are generally based on homework problems and class examples. Bline also drops two lowest quiz grades.
He is a smart guy and knows his stuff, but does not teach it well. He is not bad for basic topics, but is very unclear and not helpful for more complex concepts later on in the semester. Very useless during office hours!! Can't imagine having him for a higher level class!
The hardest class I have taken at bryant. Even harder than lynch's corp tax class. But if you want an edge on the other students, his class is a must. You will learn.

I hate him. He is so unclear and confuses himself when doing problems out on the board. He is unhelpful and very odd. He's projects are so vague and he gave me an F and gave my friend a D for a project we worked on together for class! He's a freak with a w
Very hard grader. He doesnt read your term paper and grades on structure not substance. His exams are not bad if you study but he grades hard. If you are a good student dont take him...he will ruin your GPA.
Do yourself a favor and TAKE SOMEONE ELSE for accounting classes.
OMG OMG ! He is not helpful at ALL ! He is very very rude. Exams are really hard and he gets angry really really easy. Very hard grader. DO NOT TAKE HIM unless you are a hot girl !
Bline means well but he's just not a good teacher. He'll go over a problem again and again for you but he just keeps repeating the same thing. He doesn't seem to have alternate approaches to explaining things. Doesn't explain projects well - you're on your own to interpret what you are supposed to do but will answer questions on it.
He is a really hard teacher i dont know if he is still the head of the dept. but he was when i had him and he is used to teaching grad students so basically he is ridiculously hard. he is however a good guy and will compromise with you on the tests and quizes
He is awfull and does not teach at all... terrible.
I would have been better off reading the book and studying on my own.
Bline is kind of an eccentric professor, but he's actually a pretty nice guy if you try to talk to him on a personal level. Still, the material is hard and not everyone coming into the class has an accounting background. If you make the effort and study, you should do alright.
Think the president of the U.S. as a teacher -- mannerism, speech, and visually. Now that you have a visual, he is eccentric and teaches only his one way. He will go over things multiple times, but with no alternative ways of doing things. Guidelines are extremely vague. Don't take this prof. unless you absolutely have to.
Hard class. Few grades and his tests are very hard.
Awful professor. His classes were the worst I have ever attended. He doesn't write any comments on assignments and deducts points with reckless abandon. Quizzes were a joke - he actually let people copy answers from the book...in an MBA class that is ridiculous. I got a good grade but would NOT recommend. "Notice I said discuss, not list."
Literally the worst professor I've ever had. I was an acct major for undergrad & he didn't even explain things so that I understood them. However, you are guaranteed a B no matter the level of work you put in. All grades are negotiable. Very negative person & made it clear he didn't care to teach the class.
A lot of the comments below seem to be blown out of proportion. Dr. Bline is an inspirational, awesome professor who pushes you to learn and to succeed. He is hyper aware of participation, and gives quizzes instead of tests. If I were you, I'd try my best to avoid taking this class as a summer class. It goes way too fast for anyone's liking.
Made it clear from the start he doesn't care. he doesn't teach and goes way to fast. Every week is a different chapter and Fridays are usually quiz day, he finds things to take off points. Avoid if you actually what to take something out of the course and get a decent grade.
I mean he's exactly what you'd expect for a course like this. It's a technical course, and that's how he teaches it. As long as you can follow the lectures and keep up with the reading, it's fine. Sometimes his examples don't work which is annoying. No exams just quizzes. One huge group project but not that difficult just time consuming.
He is not one of the worst professors at Bryant, but he is there more to hurt you than to help you. He curves down on quizzes and projects. His quizzes are poorly worded and his lectures are very unstructured. He is a very lazy professor and expects you not to be lazy. I would not take him. He is very weird and not a nice guy.
Bline is not as bad as these reviews say he is. There are no test and one quiz and an in class assignment per chapter. He teaches everything clearly but he grades based on other people. If someone has a better answer on the written portion of the quiz then they get 100 and you get a lower score even though yours might be 100% correct.
A lot of the comments below seem to be blown out of proportion. Bline is a very sweet professor and does want his students to succeed. This class is more difficult than most and you have to really work hard to learn the material. You have to study a lot outside of class time and most times teach yourself the material to fully understand it.
Blines class is very structured so you know exactly whats coming each day, no surprises. You have to do some teaching yourself outside of class but overall hes a good guy and gives his students many opportunities to do well. A better option than some other profs for this.
Dennis will grade down based on written response questions. But if you want an easy grade do not take this Professor. The content, while difficult, is comprised mostly of textbook work. Mr. Bline is extremely scheduled, lecture one day, in class assignment the next, and the week is ended with a quiz on all material. Next chapter. Repeat.
this cowboy-acting, southern yeehaw man is the most uncaring, rude, and arrogant professor at Bryant. Doesn't even teach accounting the right way, tutors have to teach you according to how he teaches things. calls students stupid to their face and twitches out every five seconds. would not recommend
One of the most difficult accounting professors, especially for intro course. Rounds down when grading quizzes so if you lose 1.5 points its 2. Quiz and in-class assignment each week. Quizzes are difficult & look nothing like in-class assignment. Does not teach debits and credits and makes up his own methods. Try to find easier professor if you can
Professor Bline tries to sell you the illusion that he wants you to succeed, don't buy it. If you have no prior experience in accounting and do not have access to resources like Chegg or an Accountant, say goodbye to your homework grades. Every quiz is difficult even if you put the time in to study. Avoid this Professor and this class at all costs.
Probably one of the worst yet.
Absolute worst professor. Impossible grading. Everything is done on excel. Makes you do a huge group project alone when every other class did in groups. Does not teach accounting the right way.
Ineffective at conveying information. Callous. Please avoid and choose a professor that WANTS you to succeed.
Terrible and explaining content and very unhelpful at office hours. No help or personality at all.
BEST TEACHER AT BRYANT
Worst Professor Ive ever had. All assignments are in Excel, and taught in Excel. Made us do an entire project on our own while other professors let the class work in groups. Do not take anything with him.
Worst Professor at Bryant. Does not know how to teach accounting and only does 3 exam grades for entire grade. Does not scale and makes exams insanely hard without any real way to study for them other than reading the entire textbook. Even if you are smart, you might fail because you basically have to teach yourself and that may not be enough.
The hardest professor I've ever had. He does things differently than the book does and teaches too fast. His tests are impossible no matter how much you study. He doesn't really lecture, just goes over the problems which doesn't really help if you don't know what going on.
The guys a cool guy but the worst accounting teacher Ive ever taken. He gives no clarity on what should be read or worked on, gives no clarity on what will be on exams, does not even teach half the chapters or even remembers what's on the chapters when you ask him questions about what to study. Overall the worst accounting experience at bryant.
If you want to do a 13 tab excel project all by yourself this class is just for you. He only teaches on excel but when it comes to test be ready to do it on paper and do all the calculations on your own. He is unclear about what homework is and due dates. He barely teaches and expects you to watch his videos to learn on your own time.
Professor Bline definitely is not the greatest professor, but if you keep up with the material you can do well in the class. Take advantage of his office hours to better prepare for the exams.
literally do not take him. Class if graded by three exams only, which are impossible to pass. He does not care about students, only pretends to. His lectures consist of only going over the homework, never actually teaching. Avoid at all costs. GPA dropper
This guy actually sucked. Had to withdraw from the class. I spent 3 hours at the accounting lab for the cookie project and got an F. How did I get an F on a project that was done for me by graduate students that majored in accounting? The first test only 3 people got a B or higher in a 30-person class and Dennis goes "Study harder", get lost Bline.
Professor Bline was a tough and challenging professor and expects a lot out of his students. If you understand accounting and pay attention you will be fine. His tests are on paper and you need to know what you're doing. He also is very aware of who participates and who doesn't, so participate. Definitely not impossible to get an A.
Avoid at all costs, will not respond to emails before exam dates. Does not clarify examples gone over in class. Hour and 15 minutes of straight confusion. Take this class at another university.
The worst professor I have ever seen in my life!!! Take this terrible class at other university!
The professor is horrible, he teaches through the text book for like a couple weeks and then just does random stuff on the board that he usually does wrong. The class is made up of three exams, also take home problems that we will not mention are apart of the grade. The take home problems are hard and only give a day and a half which take 10 hours.
material is difficult but possible to do decent on exams if you do the homework. gives a LOT of homework problems and exams are 80% of your grade. the other 20 is take-home excel problems that take days to do. final exam is cumulative but not required unless you need it to pass. class lectures are confusing so read the book to try to understand
One of the worst professors at Bryant. Grades four exams and drops the lowest one but the exams are almost impossible to study for. Gives online excel assignments that take hours to do. His grading criteria doesn't really make much sense and he's just flat out bad at teaching. Hard to understand what's going on unless you read the whole textbook.
Awful. Taught material in one class, went over one more time the next class. Exam the next class. And the material isn't even easy. And no time to study because don't forget you have a take-home that takes 1.5 days to complete and problems. Not helpful during office hours. Doesn't teach material similar to the book. GET. RID. OF. HIM. PLz
going into this class I was nervous and I had every right so after taking it. my goal was just to pass the class. You have to teach yourself the material and you get lost when he writes on the board cause he does the math in his head. I had all A's in my other business classes and this class I got a C+ in. he just needs to retire for students sake.
A lot of these reviews aren't too accurate. Bline for Cost MGT is not that bad, but you have to be willing to put in the work by reading and doing the homework problems before class. It's the people who don't go to class, don't read the book, and wait until class time to look at the problems that struggle. Just put in the work outside of class.
I left every class more confused than when I went in. He tends to grade work differently, so you have to compare your work with other students to make sure he gave you a fair grade, then go to his office hours to point it out. Gave 24 hours to finish a 13 hour assignment & said we don't need sleep.
A lot of these reviews are blown out of proportion. Material was difficult but that would probably be true regardless of who teaches the class. He can be confusing at times but if you read the textbook and keep up with the homework you will probably be fine. Take-homes are time consuming but not too bad if you know what you're doing.
Most of these reviews are exaggerated. There is a lot of homework and it's time consuming, but it helps to prepare for the exams. It's definitely possible to get an A if you put the time in. Bline is very nice and wants his students to comprehend the material. At times, he moves very fast and makes mistakes which makes it difficult to comprehend.
