Wow! Adelphi finally got one right, oh yes! old school professor with a boat full of new school ideas. "Who cares I went to Franklin K. Lane in the 60's", tough guy from the neighborhood with a big heart, Cowan has it all,my last class was well worth the wait. I'm glad I didn't take the other guy. I really enjoyed his class because he tried to prepare us for the teaching world. He gave out a lot of handouts which will be very helpful when I have my own classroom. I also felt he was very understanding and did his best to help out all of his students.

Great teacher -- arguably the best one I have had at Adelphi. Applies the real world and his 30-odd years as a special education teacher and principal to the classroom. So it's not just theory...well worth the time and the money.

Prof. Cowan clearly enjoyed teaching this class, and that made it more enjoyable for us. He didn't overwhelm us with work, but we learned a lot - Both from him and from each other as a result of sharing the work we did do with each other. As a result, his class was never boring and always informative. Highly recommended.

Professor Cowan is great! He's an AP in an elementary school so he has a lot of insight to provide. You'll learn how to write an IEP and work with a variety of interesting case studies. Good class!

Professor Cowan was a great helped throughout the semester. He was always available to ask questions. His assignments are very straightforward. If you do your work, hand in assignments on time, go to class every week - you should be fine.

Tends to talk a lot, but he's also trying to give a lot of information in one short time frame. The class is called Team Collaboration, the whole class is based on working together leading to many group projects. Easy to pass, don't show up late or skip and you're good as gold.

Capstone II was a required class so there's no escaping it but if you have the opportunity to select your professor, Prof. Cowan is the man! He is completely approachable and understanding as well as fantastically supportive. If writing large research papers is not your thing, Prof. Cowan will work with you to elevate your writing and research.

This course is mandatory for graduation. At first I was very overwhelmed when reviewing the syllabus. But professor Cowan gives the students the ability to be creative and think outside of the box. He is very straight forward with what he expects in terms of the work needed for the course. Class meetings are few and simple. Highly recommend Cowan!!

When you have the chance -- TAKE PROFESSOR COWAN. I'm a grad student in the STEP program and I can say he made this class worthwhile. He related everything to the "real world" and gave the class many resources that we can use (and reuse) in our classroom and administratively. I wish every STEP class was like this!!! He's also the PDK advisor !

Prof Cowan is actually one of the best professors in the school of ed. He shares so much knowledge with his students and provides so many helpful resources on Moodle and in his coursepack that can be used in the teaching field! I would take him again and again! Great Professor to work with! You are required to write a 25 page paper based off of your topic and a powerpoint. As long as you do the work and communicate you'll be in great shape! Time Management is important for this class!

This professor makes me excited to become a teacher. He is knowledgeable, cares about his students, and has a worldly experience with education. His resume of fieldwork in education and his background allows his students to to gain perspective and pertinent insights. His assignments helped me reflect deeper insights around teaching

I enjoyed this class a lot. I thought that this professor was knowledgable about the subject and that he presented in a manner that was student centered. What I appreciated most is that the professor also understood that we are working students in the school system and didn't ask a lot of us. I would recommend taking a class with Professor Cowan.

Professor Cowan is the best STEP professor. He makes time to teach valuable information and understands every students' daily life and that we have other obligations as well.
