Dr Della Corte is awesome. The material itself is relatively difficult, but Dr Della Corte does his best to help you understand. You still may need outside help (TA lab, Chegg, etc) but ultimately the class is not too hard. Expect to put in work. Dr Della Corte is an awesome guy. I think the Physics Department is very fortunate to have him.
Dr Della Corte is a really nice guy and he has real experience with physics which makes it much more interesting. He keeps things interesting and makes dense lectures more fun! His tests really cause you to stretch but he curves enough that if you work hard you will do fine. Also he gives you the formula sheet which the other class doesn't get!
Dr. Della Corte is an amazing professor. First off, he is funny to listen to and makes lectures entertaining. This was his first semester teaching, but he did a good job. He is great with questions and always gets back to you when he doesn't know the answer. Lastly, while it is a difficult, there is a curve. Also, the textbook he uses is free.
Dr. Della Corte is a great professor who knows his material and is willing to put in the work to help students succeed. The tests were difficult but he grades on the "German" scale and there's a curve. He is a very inspiring man and professor. One of the best professors I've had.
Dr. Della Corte cares immensely about his students and their success- he asked for our feedback on the class all throughout the course. Physics 106 is hard but this professor makes it accessible to all students. He's also super funny and is only 106 professors to give out an equation sheet (you want this!).
Dr. Della Corte is amazing. He tries every class to make the material easy to understand and makes sure the class understands with in class quizzes for attendance. Expect to put in the effort for homework but practice them for his test later and It helps a lot. Very funny and makes things learned actually applicable. Go to his rainbow lectures.
Dr. Della Corte is an amazing professor who really cares about physics. Physics is obviously not the easiest topic in science, but he really helps us understand the harder topics. He is really funny and his lectures are full of quips and hilarious moments. I would totally recommend Dr. Della Corte for Physics106.
Ive never had a more caring science profesor in BYU than Dr. Della Corte. He explains everything pretty well, and asks you to grade his lecture with a letter grade at the end of it through iclickers. The homework was a little bit challenging for me, but it prepared me really well for the tests (hw once a week). I wish I had taken 105 from him!
Dr. Della Corte is a great professor! I was so scared of taking this class, but he really cares about his students and physics! He makes sure to explain hard concepts in a variety of ways so that everyone can understand it. He makes concepts applicable and takes feedback from students to improve. I would recommend Dr. Della Corte to anyone!
I hope Dr. Della Corte teaches physics in the Celestial Kingdom because he really deserves it! He really cares about his class and bends over backwards to make the learning experience as clear and fun as possible. His lectures are great, we had no final exam but a video project instead. Textbook is free and online which is nice.
General physics is notoriously hard at BYU and the professors are known to be ... lacking. Dr. Della Corte is a new professor and is already better than the other gen physics professor. He is the person you should take gen physics from. The material itself is really hard, but he explains it a lot better than other professors and will help you.
I loved taking this class from Professor Della Corte! He's a hilarious and amazing professor who really wants his students to succeed. He asks for class feedback on his lectures to make sure that students understand. Be sure to go to the TA lab, and you will do just fine! Also, the final was just a video project!
We didn't have a final, but rather had to make a 10 minute video. That was awesome. So far he's the best physics teacher I've had considering the rest have been garbage. Very open to suggestions and willing to work with you. The homeworks for this class suck though, spend time with the TAs. It's harder than 105 for sure, but do-able.
Dr. Della Corte has a great sense of humor, expects a lot from you, and is fair. I've never liked physics, and I still don't love it, but I greatly appreciated this professor. Probably the best experience I could've had in a physics class. He takes suggestions every day and asks us to grade each of his lectures - he really cares about your opinion.
Professor Della Corte is a wonderful teacher and is passionate about what he teaches. He does teach at a higher level, so preparation before class is necessary. Having a base understanding of the concepts to be taught in the next class is essential, but the textbook provided does a decent job of explaining things for those like me that know nothing
Physics is hard, but Dr. Della Corte was amazing. He is my German sun; my German moon; my German alpha and my German omega. I hope that his wife whispers sweet nothings into his ear every night because if she doesn't then home girl will. Exams are fair but tricky: four midterms that don't take much time.
Physics 106 is a lot more difficult than 105. I wasn't expecting it and failed the first exam. If you take good notes during class and rewatch lectures before taking his exams you'll do fine. I managed to pull out an A after bombing that first one because his tests are fair. You'll get the grade you deserve based on the work you put in.
Dr. Della Corte is a Homie. He's a very nice and fair guy. Sometimes the class would get pretty difficult but he would always try to explain it simply. The midterms are very fair and you can submit partial credit requests. Also the homeworks only take an hour or two a week so it's not a huge time commitment unless you're studying for a test.
Dr. Della Corte is candid, fair, and way too smart for the poor pre-med/health students that must take a year of physics. Lectures and homework (one hw/week) go hand in hand to prepare you for short, but frequent exams. Go to lectures and work through the hw and you'll be completely prepared for exams. Also rest in peace, electrocuted elephant.
Physics is so much better when taught by someone with a subtle German accent. Exams were not too difficult and nothing to suprising ever showed up. Dr. DC was masterful at incorporating the gospel into his lectures. It made the lectures much more interesting.
Engaging, Kind, and Funny. A difficult class made much better by an excellent professor.
This is an amazingly wholesome course even though it can be hard. Dr. Della Corte is super smart but teaches so that students can understand and feel smart too. He's also hilarious and really good at incorporating the gospel into his lectures. 10/10 would take again.
Very funny, tests where hard but the lectures were good. I wish he would have given out a study guide for the tests, but if you can do the homework and you understand it then you should be fine.
His class is great, would definitely recommend taking 106 from him. A lot of the learning takes place while you work on the homework, so plan 3-4 hours for each homework and work until you really get the problems. If you understand everything on the homeworks you will do fine on the exams.
Literally the best physics professor at BYU. He cares more about student comprehension than subject material which already puts him miles above most other physics professors at BYU. He is very approachable, lighthearted and fun to work with. He is effective at teaching difficult concepts and reaches out for student feedback on what he can do better
The classes were very good and he is entertaining to listen to
Dennis was the man. My favorite aspect of the class is that he ties in an actual world phenomenon into each lecture making it interesting. You are definitely not bored in class. Also sharing inspirational messages every Tuesday which was neat. Tests can be tricky but very very fair, review the class slides.
Dr. DC excels at teaching difficult concepts clearly. He builds understanding before plunging into the math. Homework is manageable and directly applicable. Exams are difficult, but always fair and clearly written. His weekly spiritual messages were touching and inspiring. I did not love physics coming into this class, but I left wanting for more.
I am a premed student who was trying to get a good grade for physics and prepare well for the MCAT. Dr. Della Corte was funny, fair, and his tests had no surprises. If you practice the homeworks and go over each lecture, you will get a great grade. He also puts MCAT test questions throughout his slides to help you prepare.
Prof. Della Corte was a very fun professor to have. His lectures were fairly entertaining and he was honestly pretty funny. The tests were tough but he allows his students to submit partial credit requests after taking them and also has an extra credit opportunity worth up to 5% of your total grade.
Awesome professor! Really cares about students and values feedback. Tests and homework were difficult but fair and straightforward. Really prepares you well for physics on the MCAT. Highly recommend!
Dr DC is awesome. I'm honestly impressed at how good his english is (he's german). He makes lectures interesting. Only complaint about the class is that the 3rd midterm was way harder than any other test in the class and I felt like the homeworks didn't help me prep for it. Guess he's gotta set a bell curve somehow, so just watch out for that
One of the best professors at BYU. He assigns homework that really helps you on the exams and the exams are fair. Gives the best devotionals. I failed the first exam but he helped me get to an A. Also, at the end of the semester he makes sure no one is less than 1% from the next highest grade. All around phenomenal professor, he definitely cares.
Dr. DC is a super nice guy, very spiritual (I loved how he tied things back to the gospel frequently), and his english is incredible for being his second tongue (he's german). No final which was nice, just 4 midterms and all are cumulative. The third is way harder than the others so watch out for that (theyve gotta set the curve somehow)
Wow. I am seriously so so obsessed with this guy. If every professor at BYU taught like him then I would feel so more inclined to actually go to class and not just teach myself. Expectations were clear, tests were fair and frequently pulled from homework problems/past exams. I hate physics but I loved this class. He is so good. Easy to get an A!
Dr. DC is easily my favorite professor I've had. He's great at explaining difficult concepts and his material has a very organized and natural progression. He's hilarious, and his tests were not anything harder/crazier than what we practiced in the HW. The only downside is every test was cumulative, but that aspect wasn't as hard as I anticipated.
Dr. Della Corte is a great teacher and an enthusiastic physicist. What an enjoyable lecturer. The subject matter is quite challanging, but Dr. Della Corte is more than capable of teaching it, and he is fair in the way he conducts his class. Lectures are intelectually stimulating and enjoyable.
Great professor, great lectures, very funny and helpful. It's difficult material but if you go to the TA lab and do the homework it's very doable. He curved most of the tests we had and dropped one of them. People struggle just like any other class but if you are willing to work a little bit it can be done. Definitely take this class.
Straightforward assignments and lectures. Goes out of his way to use cool examples, but also makes sure all his work is doable. SO fun to listen to. I wish I was taking more physics.
Della Corte is now my favorite professor at BYU. Gospel-centered, open to suggestions, hilarious, & very reasonable. Lectures were very entertaining. Weekly HW was generally light & very doable (conceptually hard, but that's physics). He gives enough resources to feel very prepared for midterms & the final. Textbook is also free. Take Della Corte!
He is a breath of fresh air. The ONLY professor I've had at BYU who is able to be spiritual without it feeling forced or cringey. Genuine guy. He is easily one of the best professors, if not the best professor I've ever had. Effective teacher with fair grading policies. The content is difficult, but he makes it possible to understand and succeed.
Professor Dennis Della Corte is one of the funniest professor of all time. I would defiantly take him for Physics again! Such an overall awesome guy in the classroom and just personality wise!
I enjoyed this class, really engaging lectures with clear learning goals and very manageable HW that challenges students to apply principles gained from lectures to different problems.
Professor Della Corte is a great professor. Very funny and personable. Most of his tests had options for bonus points. A lot of this class was a review from AP Physics with a couple of calculus concepts thrown in. If you took AP Physics in high school and remember what you were taught, you will do fine.
Homeboy is a legend. He's charismatic and clear in his lectures and attentive to questions. Lil tip though, if he has two sections, take the one that is later in the day. He usually learns better how to teach the topic after the first lecture
Dr. Della Corte is so awesome. He's super funny, a great teacher, and a clear grader. Lots of cool experiments in class and only one homework assignment a week. Tests are mostly based on homework problems and in-class experiments. Content is hard but that's a given because it's physics. Definitely take him for 121!
Dr. Della Corte is the best! He is my favorite professor I've had at BYU so far. He is extremely smart, very caring, and makes learning difficult topics easy and enjoyable. The homework isn't too bad as long as you read and go to class.
Professor Della Corte is PHENOMENAL! It was definitely a tough class given that it is a hard subject, but he did such a good job at explaining things! His lectures were SO FUNNY! Attendance isn't mandatory but man you want to be in class! Not only are you entertained but you learn a lot. Also only 1 HW a week made for a manageable work load.
This professor is so good! I wasn't sure about this class at first, but I definitely grew to love physics more and it was because of him. It is a challenging class, but doable when you put in the work. The teacher is hilarious, and the lectures are interesting, and the tests closely align with the content learned.
Incredible teacher! He knows his stuff.
Dr Della Corte's lectures are so fun! Lots of cool demos and he's hilarious! He prepares us super well for the tests, test questions are the same as the homework and we get a page of notes! Do the HW. 1 HW assignment a week, took me about 4 hrs each. Physics is hard, but Dr. Della Corte makes it fun and not stressful. He also is very inspiring.
One of the best teachers ever for real though! definitely take his class. He brings the spirit into all his physics lectures, Its super cool.
Dr. Della Corte was an amazing physics professor. His lectures are generally easy to follow and he works to explain things in a way that makes sense and asks for feedback after each lecture. He does test reviews before each midterm and posted videos of him working through homework and test problems after the fact.
Professor Della Corte was probably the best professor I have had at BYU so far. He is knowledgeable and really good at making things clear and understandable. Everything he does sets his students up for success by recording answers to every weekly homework assignment and exam. I would recommend Prof Corte for everyone taking physics 121.
Professor Della Corte is great! His lectures were entertaining and he usually explained things really well. The tests and homework assignments were difficult but he included a bunch of extra credit questions in the final, which was super helpful for my grade. Definitely would recommend.
Great guy and great professor! He cares about his students and really wants them to succeed. He has a Youtube channel where he posts all the classes, homework, and midterm solutions, so if you miss out on anything you can just watch it later. He is also super funny and engaging in class. The book for the class is free and available online.
Professor Della Corte is an amazing teacher. He is always making the class laugh and teaches the material so much better than the textbook does.
Lectures weren't great so I stopped going after the first midterm. If you read the textbook and do your homework, it's an easy A. He was super lenient with the homework, some people were complaining and he waived most of the late penalties. The exams resemble the homework which is really nice. Overall liked him even though I never went to class.
Definitely one of my favorite professors! He has really clear grading criteria and not too much homework. The tests were online and he helped the class prepare well. Attendance was not graded but his lectures were always very engaging.
Professor Della Corte is very too the point, he knows his stuff really well and he does everything he can to prepare for lectures in advance and do meaningful demonstrations, practice problems and increase understanding. HOWEVER that doesn't mean he will give you the answer of even the equation, prepare to spend some time in the TA Lab and love it
I didn't always love Prof. Della Corte's lectures, and felt that he spent too much time explaining the theory in class without teaching us about the problems we would encounter on assignments. However, he makes up for it with genuinely hilarious and captivating lectures, and is just such a cool guy that going to class is still worth it.
Smash
He's pretty great! No complaints at all!
Dr. Della Corte was such a hilarious professor. He explained things in a way that made sense to me, and he always injected humor into every lecture. Plus, he has a German accent. 5/5!
He is amazing!! 100/10 recommend. He teaches clearly, his tests are exactly what he preps you for, and is great at student connection in class.
Super awesome guy I really enjoyed the class but the grading is harsh. 75% of your grade is exams and he spends little time on the exam's content. It's easy day to day and his lectures are clear but the exams are killer. When he explains problems, especially with math, he whizzes through them quickly not explaining much about them.
Great professor! His Phscs 121 class has homework due every saturday and readings/pre-class videos due before each lecture. It's clear what will be on the test, and he does an amazing job explaining concepts with demos. If you're going to take a physics class, I'll make the choice for you -- just take it from Prof Della Corte!
I will never regret taking this Physics class from him; I enjoyed my time during Physics class while he gave the lectures. Homework and midterm questions can be crazy and annoying, though I learned a lot more from the questions itself...
Amazing professor who never misses a chance to share his testimony! Do the homework, watch the class videos, pay attention in class and you'll be good!
Definitely my favorite professor of the semester. Very interactive with students, and teaches necessary knowledge at a perfect speed. Amazing guy!
I've never taken a physics class before, not even in high school, so it was fairly difficult. There's only a homework assignment a week, however, he teachings more about concepts than how to solve problems. This makes it difficult to do the homework and exams, as he doesn't usually explain how to solve problems in class. Amazing guy though!
I absolutely loved this class. Professor Della Corte was an incredible teacher and brings an incredible spirit to his class. His class really embodies the aspect of BYU that we are meant to learn academically alongside the Gospel. 10/10 would Recommend.
Great professor, homeworks aren't too difficult and there's always slack/TA Lab to help if you're really stuck on something. Definitely have to study for tests, but the majority of the questions mimic homework problems almost exactly or are explained in pre-class videos. Overall funny professor with a lot of insights into life as well as physics.
Lectures were hilarious! Always brings the spirit. Most of my learning was through the textbook/posted videos. Lectures go over concepts. One homework assignment every week, test every 5ish weeks. If you are good at teaching yourself, its a great class!
Della Corte was my favorite teacher of the entire semester and this class is what made me choose to major in Physics over Engineering. His is a very engaging lecturer, using lots of in class demonstrations. He was always very straightforward and forthcoming with what we needed to do know to get good grades on the test.
He's a great professor, trust all of the other reviews. But my only problem with him is that he doesn't adequately prepare you for the homework. I found myself having to search for solutions and videos for almost every homework. Luckily the tests are pretty much just the homework problems.
He cares about students. Since he has so many, he sees what the students struggle the most in using grade statistics and such. He starts most of his lessons with a spiritual thought. Class was very engaging. He blows stuff up too. Overall just a great professor. Textbook was free online.
He teaches concepts really well with a good sense of humor! I thoroughly enjoyed this class :) He also drops your lowest midterm, which is nice
Dr. Della Corte is an amazing teacher and I would highly recommend him for PHYSCS 121. He teaches concepts very clearly and his lectures are always engaging, as he does physical demonstrations as often as possible. He records pre-lecture videos and homework solution videos, which are very helpful. The grading structure is quite forgiving, too.11/10
One of the best professors. Tests are taken online & pull questions from HW. Just to do all the HWs in the physics lab so you can do it faster/get help. Then redo the problems until you've got it nailed before the test. You get two tries before you get docked points on every HW question, so you can easily get 100%.
Dr. DC is a very genuine guy and I think I'd enjoy being his friend over his student. His lectures often cover physics concepts in a simple way but then the homework is so difficult. GO TO THE TA LAB. DON'T WASTE TIME ATTEMPTING IT ALONE UNLESS YOU'RE A GENUIS. Tests aren't awful because they are majority homework questions.
Very inspiring. To sum it up, lectures are easy and fun, homework is hard. Homework takes about two hours and is due every Saturday night. I learned late how helpful the Physics TA Lab is. Regardless, his spirit filled classroom inspired me to want to take on this hard class. I am so thankful for him and his example of discipleship.
Effectively all of the work for this class was online: Homework, midterms, and even the final is graded digitally and automatically. He provides great videos as substitutes for reading the textbook each week and is incredibly clear with his teaching style. He likes to have fun in his class and very clearly cares about his students' success.
Literally the most entertaining professor ever, go to lectures they are so fun! Also the tests are not too difficult if you do the homework.
Professor Della Corte has a great understanding of physics, and the frequent demonstrations are eye opening and entertaining. He also has a cool German accent. Homework is due once a week on Saturday, and it's good to do the problems after the content is covered rather than all at the end. The physics help lab is also very helpful.
I loved this man so much, but.... we didnt go over a lot of the homework or test problems In class. He is a lovely explainer and WICKED smart, but you have to do a lot of the learning on your own. Make buddies so you can study and GO TO THE TA LAB. idk this was a hard class for me, and there is not partial credit on tests so its easy to fail.
Really great guy! You're allowed one page of notes on every test, and that's super helpful! He's also a really entertaining lecturer and we do a lot of fun demonstrations. That being said, we did not really go over a lot of homework/application questions in lecture, so you're kind of on your own for that!
Professor Della Corte is extremely fair. He offers extra credit which helped me end the course with 104% in the class. His lectures are engaging, fun, and hilarious. He also has amazing spirit filled stories.
His lectures were consistently uplifting, clarifying, and entertaining. It is still of course necessary to study outside of class quite a bit, but it is not any more work than you would expect from a three-credit class. He gave us a lot of information about what the tests would look like and I entered every test confident.
The topics are best reviewed in class, but videos are provided for those who are out. In class examples clarify unintuitive ideas and there are great risk free practice problems to apply it. A test and two homework assignments are dropped and every homework has a walkthrough video posted after the deadline. Della Corte is fun and a great teacher.
Della Corte is an amazing lecturer. Class was engaging and I never regretted going to class. Grading comes down to exams which are auto graded. Success in this class comes down to mastering the homework assignments because the tests are comprised mainly of hw questions. Fun professor although grading can be unforgiving at times. Go to TAs for help.
I loved his lectures and his stories! For me, lectures were easy to follow and the class moved at a good pace. I really liked how the homework worked and reviewing homework problems made studying for exams easy. Exams were nice because you could take them online anytime during the exam window. Dr Della Corte was hilarious and I'd highly recommend.
DellaCorte is ridiculously smart, hilarious, is an amazing storyteller, and prioritizes having the spirit in his class. He is non-existent outside of class. No office hours. Instead, there's a fully staffed physics help lab all week. He drops one test, and everything is auto graded. All lessons are prerecorded, but attending lecture is worth it.
Great professor! It took me a little time to get accustomed to the independent learning style of this class, but the TA lab and pre-class videos are super helpful! Only one HW assignment a week and online exams make class manageable, but I personally had to study quite a bit to feel confident for the midterms. I loved attending lectures!
He had great lectures, definitely worth going even if they aren't required. Best professor I've had for a general (I'm a senior, so I've done quite a few).
I love Della Corte. I think he's the best professor I've had at incorporating the gospel and his own life stories into his lectures. He's a super likeable, quick witted guy. My only complaint is that when he made a mistake on the board, instead of erasing the error, he would just write over the top of it. Watch the pre lecture videos thoroughly.
Dr. Della Corte is an amazing professor. He's very smart, is a very good teacher and has good teaching style, and at the same time, as an amazing sense of humor. He makes sure to keep the students engaged with his sense of humor and demos in class. I would highly recommend this professor and would definitely take from him again.
Della Corte made each class period really fun and engaging! Granted the course was challenging and some of the topics took effort to understand but the demonstrations and devotionals given before class overall made it bearable. There wasn't a tremendous amount of Homework but Midterms and Final were somewhat challenging
Class consisted of learning the material yourself via the online textbook or pre-class video, then expanding on what was learned in class, and weekly homework problems. Week to week the concepts were challenging but manageable workload--but I had to dedicate quite a bit of time to studying for the 3 midterms/final. But hey he has a cool accent.
Online tests, free online textbook, pretty good lectures, ends classes early if he finishes early, and posts lecture slides and videos.
Amazing professor. His lectures are extremely entertaining and engaging. The homework is clear and almost identical to the exams. He's pretty merciful with his grading as well. Not a tough class at all if you've taken physics before, otherwise you just have to go to TA hours sometimes.
Della Corte is funny and enthusiastic. He's young and is one of those super understanding professors. He's really good at explaining difficult concepts, and gives some fun application examples.
He is a good guy during class and I think he is a good lecturer. But none of that helps you when you get to the homework. He has this philosophy that making the homework so much harder that what he teaches in class helps students to become better problem solvers. It doesn't. All it does is makes me cry. The homework is the hardest I've ever done.
I saw alot of interesting reviews for him. If you are ever struggling with homework (because physics is not very intuitive) I recommend going to the TA help lab. Della Corte teaches everything you need to know to do the homework, but understanding how to apply it is what can make it difficult. Definitely study for the tests.
Dr. Della Corte absolutely gives some of the most entertaining lectures at BYU! The homework load is not terrible at all, one assignment per week. They can get difficult, but mostly, focus on the exams. They're cumulative and are HARD! Not even ChatGPT can help ya out. Super cool class though.
Dr. Della Corte is the best! His lectures are interesting and engaging, and the material isn't hard to learn if you do the homework.
He has really good lectures, with many demonstrations of the concepts he's teaching. He also gives hints for tests before they come up to help you prepare. In addition to this, he'll give homework hints. There is a fair amount of preclass reading for his class, but he also provides videos to explain the concepts if the textbook makes no sense.
I really enjoyed this class. Professor DellaCorte had a lot of demonstrations in class and would share a lot about his life which was cool to hear about. This was my first physics class so it was hard for me. He gives you an outline of what the questions will look like on the test which is super helpful but they are still really challenging.
I loved learning physics from Professor Della Corte! He teaches a hard subject, but I thought he made it as clear as possible. He also was very active in reacting to students' comments for improvement, he really cares that you learn the principles. Study, make sure you know the material, and you'll pass the exams just fine.
very funny, good lecteruer. lots of in class demos, and preclass videos to help you understand concepts. It's a confusing topic and he deosn't always explain each step or thing well but he definitly is open to critique and you can defintely succed by going to the TA lab. he seems to have a bit of extreme fanbase in my class but did bring the spirit
Professor Della Corte is extraordinary, and He uses lots of active elements in his lectures to create engagement and explain complex principles in a simple way. I appreciated how he used the gospel to enhance his teaching as well. He takes feedback throughout the semester and will constantly attune his teaching to better suit the students' needs.
Amazing professor would take this class again, some chalenging concepts but if you attend his lectures youll be fine
Dr Della Corte's class is a lot of fun and we learn important concepts about physics. His lectures are Very confusing at times and most of the time learning was spent in the TA labs. He's very smart but cannot communicate the information very clearly a lot of the time. He is very funny and his lectures are entertaining but I don't learn a lot.
Dr. Della Corte was an amazing professor, and I highly recommend him. He taught in a very fun and intuitive manner, where each topic building upon the last. He performed regular in-class experiments that helped demonstrate new concepts. He would have lectures dedicated to review, where he would give hints on his exams, and go over them afterward.
Professor Della Corte explains things in a way that makes sense. He incorporates a lot of in-class demos about the physics principles. I highly recommend attending his lectures. He is open to input, and makes changes when needed. He tries to help us succeed, giving not so subtle hints for midterms and final. If you pay attention you will be fine.
One of my fav professors of all time. He knows how to explain the materials with good visual examples and analogies. You get 1 HW / week: 3 mid-terms (the lowest will be dropped) and the final. Watch and go to his lectures, really spend time understanding the homework(if not go to the TA lab) and you will do great
Very inspirational lectures, but doesn't do a great job a concretely explaining the physics material. Very funny and approachable.
Made lectures so engaging! Super fun and involving, despite there being so many people in the class (about 250). Be ready to put time into really learning to apply the material you learn in lecture. Lecture attendance super recommended.
Prof Della Corte was very good at explaining all of the concepts covered in class and then reviewing them with applications. I personally loved finding how hard Po punched Tai Lung in Kung Fu Panda in lecture. He also taught us how to sing Silent Night in German at the last lecture.
Dr Della Corte is amazing. He has an awesome personality and can teach very well. This class has 3 midterms and a final. They are all online and 75% of the tests used the homework questions. If you know how to solve all of the homework questions, you will do very good in this class.
Dr. DC was pretty awesome ngl. He made lectures entertaining and I didn't dread going to class. He actually listened to student feedback and implemented it. 75% of your grade is midterms and the final. He drops a midterm. Tests are online. Homework was tough, but there is a well stocked TA lab. Homework problems appear on the tests.
Dr. Della Corte is one of the smartest men I've ever known in my whole life. He's an incredible professor. Physics 121 on the other hand I hated. It's a very difficult class, but having a professor like Della Corte helps a ton.
He's a good professor for being pretty new, loves connecting his class to the gospel. The textbook's pretty terrible just watch his videos. The iClicker tests help make it interactive. Just one homework assignment a week but watch out cause he's throws a lot of material in toward the end of the semester. Studying with a group will save you.
I heard before taking Physics 121 is a heavy class, but that's actually not the case. Instead, the professor includes extra credit questions on the exams. If you stay on top of the homework and understand how to solve the problems, getting an A in this class is very achievable. Plus, he's a really funny and engaging professor.
Della Corte's a solid choice for 121. He lectures well, but the homework can be really hard. If you pay attention in class and go to the TA lab to do your homework, you'll be fine. Just be aware that the midterms + final make up most of your grade.
Great at building rapport with us, even in classes of 200+. I appreciated his assertive, direct, blunt German personality. He took the first 10 minutes on Thursdays to review the Tuesday devotional. The last lecture discussed Christmas from his German/Physics perspective. Exams were online, with a page of notes allowed. *Textbook was online.
Dr Della Corte is awesome! Such a funny guy. Physics 121 (at least for me) was extremely difficult. However, Dr Della Corte made it fun and engaging. Class was amazing. Warning though: he goes through material extremely fast and doesn't explain a ton, so if you're lost like I was often then you'll have to do a fair amount of extra work on your own.
Lectures were optional but greatly enhanced understanding of the material, in my opinion. Professor Della Corte is also hilarious and makes the lectures enjoyable. Take the exams extremely seriously if you want a good grade; 75% of your grade is based on three exam scores, and there is no extra credit offered. Difficult material, but manageable.
Fantastic lecturer, he answered any and all questions. USE THE TA LAB, create a good study group. Review homeworks before exams since they're 75% of your grade. If I had read the textbook or studied more I could have easily gotten an A. He provides you with the tools to succeed if you take advantage of them, learning lots of physics along the way.
I love this man so much. For me, he exemplifies what BYU should be. Faith and study focused. Lectures are clear, and the content is manageable. Free online textbook that is helpful for content. But YouTube is also a great place to learn the specific material if you struggle. HIGHLY recommend you take this professor for your Physics credit.
It was my first physics class ever, so I liked how Prof. Della Corte taught from first principles. The pre-class videos for each lecture that give you all the content ahead of time and are super helpful. Homeworks took me a long time, but all the exams pull directly from the HW, so take your time to understand the problems and you'll do great.
The best teacher ever, the reason why I'm a Physics major.
Very engaging lectures with a lot of demonstrations in them. He's also very funny and has a cool accent. As long as you stay on top of homework, the course isn't too hard especially if you've taken a physics class before. I highly recommend taking PHYS 121 from him.
I did not do very well in this class, but it was very clear that if I hadn't had Della Corte I wouldn't have even passed the class at all. Della Corte has some of the most engaging lectures I've attended, and is constantly taking in student suggestions to curate the experience. He turned a very tough class into a manageable challenge.
One of my favorite professors so far. He is an excellent lecturer and is spiritually uplifting. Also, his general conference reviews are the best. If you have to take PHSCS 121, take it from him.
Dr Della Corte wants everyone to succeed. He will help you as far as is reasonable, and as far as you let him. You'll have to put in some work, but it's a good time.
I just want to thank Professor Corte. I learned that I want to have nothing to do with physics in my career, and I'm glad I learned this before I got further into my previous major. Side note: Experiments/demonstrations during lectures were very fun.
I wouldn't take Phys 121 from anyone else. His lectures are really good and he provides sufficient materials outside of class to learn the subject well. I honestly couldn't think of a better teacher.
Entertaining Lectures, knows the material like the back of his hand. Well organized class work and easy to follow the streamline of coursework
Able to help students understand hard concepts and has a lot of trust in his students
Della Corte is an amazing man and very funny. He made lectures fun and interesting, while learning a lot. There is reading before every class. There is a weekly homework, but very clearly based off of what you learn, so it's fair. The tests are hard but manageable. As a general required for my major, it was a hard class and just make sure to study.
He's super smart and understands the concepts well. Uses lots of tools and visuals to help you conceptualize the subject. He's pretty funny too and delivers great lectures!
Works through the type of problems that will be in the homeworks and exams in class. He also loves doing demonstrations of the concepts. Super funny guy. Awesome German accent. Probably my favorite professor this semester!
Physics is conceptually hard, but he really makes it engaging. He is funny, always clarifies students questions, and does fun, in class, demonstrations to give students a real world showing. The class is hard and that's just how it is but Dr. Della Corte at least makes it enjoyable. There is also only one homework assignment a week.
This class covers the same material as AP Physics, so if you've taken that class, it should be fairly easy. An A is 95-100, no extra credit, with three midterms and a final. The TA hours are like 8am-8pm Mon-Sat. Physics is hard, so make sure you show up to lectures to see how to solve things. Attendance isn't required but I would recommend it.
The organization of the class was clear and made things easy to manage. His lectures were phenomenal.
I don't like Physics, it is a hard class, but I love Prof Della Corte! I would take every class from him if I could. He's so funny if you can appreciate his kind of silliness. Often tells stories, but always makes it through the lecture. You have to grind some gears in this class. Get help from TAs! (P.S. Study HW problems, they help on exams)
He is a nice man but he moves very quickly and I couldn't really follow the lectures in class. I learned the most from the TA's in the TA lab. I would recommend going to class, but I didn't feel like I learned much in class. The tests repeat lots of questions from the HW and even past exams, however are graded pretty harshly.
Oh my gosh please take Physics 121 from this man. He is so funny and so German. Does demonstrations all the time in class and is super engaging.
Professor Della Corte was such a phenomonal proffesor to have to learn Physics 121. He taught with care, uplifted anyone who asked questions, and was overall an amazing person to listen to.
He's a great professor. He will make you understand physics. Take 121 from him.
He is the absolute Goat, you've got to take him!!
I have a crush on him
His lectures are amazing! I'm laughing the whole time and he teaches the content so well. Tests aren't bad at all despite never having taken physics before. Wish I could take this class again!
He was really engaging and funny.
Professor Della Corte is awesome! His class is a little challenging but he clearly wants you to succeed. All tests were online and he would usually prepare you well and tip you off before the test. Plus you get to bring a sheet of formulas with you. He is a fun guy and has an entertaining way to teach. Highly recommend taking his class!
Take this class if you want to see a German man flame nerds for stupid comments the whole class. Absolute comedian I loved this class, very spiritual guy, very good at explaining things. All exams are unproctored which is a plus
He has an awesome sense of humor, a cool German accent, and some great spiritual thoughts. I think for someone taking physics for the first time he might go over difficult concepts a little fast. The tests were all online
Professor Della Corte is a great professor. Professor Della Corte is a super fun guy. He also does a great job implementing spiritual aspects into each lecture. All tests are online based on honor policy, and there's one piece of homework due Saturday night each week. Professor Della Corte can go really fast sometimes, so be wary of that.
He was a great professor and made his lectures very engaging and funny. However I often felt that attending them was pointless because we were given little actual instruction and left to figure out a majority of the class on our own. But I enjoyed the structure of the class and enjoyed not having to go to the testing center for midterms/final.
Dr. Della Corte is a phenomenal professor. Physics 121 is a hard class, but he consistently has higher pass rates than the average professor. I wouldn't take it from anyone else. Make sure you study for the tests because they make up a substantial portion of your final grade. And if you miss class, you will have trouble figuring out the homework.
Fantastic teacher! He makes the class quite doable even with the harsher grading scale (95+ is an A). Workload is pretty light, and tests were mostly just homework problems so make sure you understand the homework!
BEST PROFESSOR I'VE EVER HAD. Hilarious lectures, great at explaining, two lectures a week and one homework assignment a week. The tests were basically just the homework so as long as you can do that you're golden. Good demos. Seriously a great guy who wants to be the best professor he can be.
This guy is hilarious! He cares for his students and the course work is pretty hard so overall great class.
Professor Della Corte was entertaining, but overall, a fairly poor professor. He often made material more complicated than necessary and was not accessible outside of class. His exams are unproctored and online, which he refuses to change. However, he is very clear about exam content, which is often the homework word for word.
He was a really funny teacher and this was one of my favorite classes. He taught complex concepts in a really interesting way. There is some pre reading in a textbook but he posts videos as well. The only real assignments were a weekly homework and some exams so it feels very exam heavy.
If you're taking physics 121, Della Corte is your guy. He is SO funny, caring, and spiritual. The subject matter can be a little difficult to grasp at times, but just go to class. and if you watch all of his pre-class videos, you can learn the material really well at your own pace. His exams are tough, but he drops 1/3 during the semester.
He had us laughing every other minute of EVERY lecture. He took the time to build our good intuition and layer the learning so by the end of lectures we could tackle hard topics. Homework is a couple problems due Sat. at midnight, and the midterm/tests are a big deal. Both were online. Engage in lectures, take notes, do homework in the Physics lab.
