GREAT TEACHER
I really did not want to take sociology, but i had too for my major, but i'm glad that i took prof. doyle. he had great stories to show what was important in class and his test were from our letures and from my notes. great class, i hope to take him again.
Dennis was great, this class kept me interested. Class dicussions were a big part of this course. I learned a lot in here. He also gives GREAT study guides, he wants you to succeed. He also smiles a lot and makes you want to be there
Prof. Doyle is one of the best professors at JJC. The material may not always be the most exciting, but his lectures keep you interested. He's fair, he's personable, and he gives you study guides to let you know exactly what will be on the test so you know what to study. I also think he's an easy grader, which makes things better overall.
GREAT TEACHER!You have 1 research paper 5-10 pages on anything SOC. & 3 tests- 5q multi 5 fill-in 1essay which you get on your study guide so you can answer it before the test. You even get to choose which essay ? you want to answer! He gives you 2 you choose one, you know what it is. That's ALL HE"S SUPER! very easy!
Prof. Doyle is a great teacher. I did not want to take a soc class but he made the class interesting. And he is always willing to help a student who needs it.
Denny is a great teature and gives good lectures, and he palys chess, what more can you ask for. Just go to class, study the material for about a half hour before the test, and you will do well...as long as you write an INTERESTING research paper.
Doyle is an awesome teacher. He is very easy to follow and makes the subject very interesting. He is also an easy grader, and is the most easy going professor I ever had.
This was my first class in college and Mr. Doyle is one of the best teachesrs I could have asked for! He is very smart and easy going, i could tell he really likes Sociology alot and his test come from the lectures, so I did well. I would take him again before I transfer.
I think Mr. Doyle really takes his time to teach the class what it needs to know, I have had Mr. Doyle before and he really knows his stuff and his a good story telling, this makes the class interesting for me. I would take him again and most likely will before i graduate.
he can get off topic easily... and tells his stories as an probation officer...buying the text is a waste of time. uncless u are interested in knowing more than wht he teaches..... key thing is to take notes n study them and u are on the way to get an A!
He is such an awesome teacher! He is so funny and always gets off subject but I did learn a lot from him and he knows his stuff. 3 Tests and one 5 page paper. Easy A if you study notes before the tests. Do not buy the book, you never use it.
He's a great guy. He always relates what he's teaching. He has tons of examples and experiences to share. He's a funny guy, always cracking jokes. I took 2 classes with him and would take more! His tests are easy and everything you cover in class is on the test. His study guides are exactly what's on the test and gives you the essays for the tests.
Great guy! Easy going...Test are VERY lecture based. So you should go to class. Have fun! Take Doyle!
Easy class. Doyle is funny and ALWAYS gets off the subject. Don't buy the book. Just take notes right off the board. Whatever is on the test comes from your notes. Tests usually consist of 5 multiple choice, 5-10 fill in the blanks and 1 essay. Got an A in the class by studying the notes.
I had Prof.Doyle this summer and I learned alot from the class. Very detailed lectures, so I had to take good notes to score well on the tests. I would say that Prof.Doyle is equal to the Professors I have at Illinois State Univ.where I go to school.
Boring!
He is great, if you have a question he is always eager to help you. I find his lectures very interesting. Awesome professor!
Great teacher, very easy, loved his stories, tests sooo easy, no homework, just lectures and one research paper! do not buy the book
He is an excellent teacher and really makes class interesting with all of his stories. There's really no homework, just one paper. I would really recommend taking his class.
This teacher is the BIGGEST sweetheart. His class has no homework and a few quizes which I thought were kinda hard. He gives you a study guide but it only covers like 10 percent of the quiz. He is super nice and understanding, easy to talk too also. Take him if you want an easy ride but just prepare yourself for the quizes and you will be fine.
doyle is a great teacher, all his concepts are easy to understand, I would highly recommend him
This class is very fun, Mr.Doyle tells many stories of him being a parole officer. We NEVER used the book! So don't bother even buying it. Whatever is on the test, he tells you about. The notes are all you need to get a A on the test. Highly recommend the class!
HE'S a NICE GUY & the class is super EASY, but i found this it almost unbearable to attend b/c: power-point outline form made no sense/mispronounced important words/mispelled even more (college prof?)/goes from mumbling to being really loud/contradicts himself/constantly off topic (drove us nuts)/not much discussion/tip toes around important issues
Prof.Doyle has a great class, he tells good stories that go along with his discussion, I think his tests are close to his study guide.
Best professor I have had so far. Definitely taking another class with him if I can. This is one of the better professors.
Awsome class, I've learned alot from Prof.Doyle's class, he tells it like it is. Didn't use the book alot in class, but I thought it was useful, I have recommended this class to my friends.
AWESOME! He is the funniest profesor I have ever had. Don't buy any books for his class. Test are VERY easy. Just take notes and you'll be fine!
hes awesomeeeeeeeeeeeeee! EASY BREEZY
he is super easy.. all the question from the test are from the notes. u don't even need ur text book. so don't waste money on ur text book. please take his class if u need soc 101
Prof.Doyle's class was good and interesting from the first class all the way t o the last. I hope to take him again when I need another Sociology class. Very good class to take if you need one.
I thought Sociology was going to be very hard, but Mr. Doyle made the class fun and interesting. The class is not boring and its an easy A.
talked a lot about random things, but if you attend class, and take notes, and then read and reread the notes, you will do great! On the up side, he made class interesting and had great stories!!!
Took this clas over summer.I can't handle him over 16 week semester!Cannot stay on subject!BUT show up for class he does award extra points for attendence, take ALL notes from HIS powerpoint-don't buy the book, you won't need it TRUST me!I was in every class doing homework from another class, wrote all powerpoint notes and passed with an A.
Hard to keep on point, learned more about his travel history then about the class topics. Wouldn't recommend for the 16 week course if rambling drives you crazy. His tests r from notes, no book needed.
Great guy. Willing to help. Makes material fun! If you show up for class, pay attention, you will do goood in his class. He tells you exactly what you should know for the test.
By far the easiest class I have ever taken. Don't waste your time buying the book. All you need are his powerpoint notes. You can miss a day and get the notes from someone else, he only goes through like one slide per class. And he says exactly what will be on the test, and it's easy! Highly reccommend taking this if you want a good grade.
HDENNIS DOYLE IS AMAZING!
amazing teacher!!
one of the best teacher's who's at JJC. doyle made his classes fun and exciting but the tests were EXTREMELY hard! be sure to copy exactly what his powerpoint says bc his tests are sooo hard!
Overall good professor. Dont buy the book. He does not use it. If you copy the lecture notes, you will ace the tests.
AMAZING TEACHER! i would take him again in a heartbeat. class was easy and so were the test... as long as you went to class and copied down the power points. DO NOT BUY BOOK!! you really don't need it at all. I would highly recommend this teacher.
phenomenal teacher he makes the class interesting and not dry you really look forward to coming to class everyday extremely fair if you study hard and attend class
Great teacher! He doesn't use the textbook, but make sure that you take notes from his Power Point Presentation. His tests are based on his lecture and the Power Point. Fast paced in the summer just study and you'll do fine.
outstanding teacher I became interested in a topic that I had no interest in. very engaging speaker
First, don't buy the book he uses, you don't need it. He is a very helpful teacher and if you show up to class everyday and copy down the power points you'll have no problems on his test or the class. The test consist of 5 multiple choice, 5 short answer, and 1 essay questions. He makes the lectures and topics covered in this class interesting.
Mr. Doyle was AWESOME! He is able to tie sociology and history so that they both make sense. He encourages feedback and questions so class was always interesting and relevant. You do have to study for the tests, but with the study guide you know exactly what is expected of you. If you do not get an A, then it is your own fault.
This is a GREAT teacher! He knows so much information and he can just ramble off statistics-very intelligent, and definately knows what he is talking about. He also has a funny sense of humor, and isn't the angry type! Cool guy.
one of the best professors at jjc. extremely intelligent man, but so laid back. because of the way he tied in history and sociology was amazing!! I remembered everything he taught me from class. I recommend him 200% !!
Very nice, helpful, likeable man... I didn't learn a thing, however.
he is a very help fun teacher. he will go out of his way to help anyone . just let him know what's up and he he will do his best to help you. take him you won't regret it. i took his class in the spring of 2009. he rocks ! :)
Great teacher. Lets you know exactly what will be on the test. As long as you show up to class to get all the notes, and you study for the test, you will get a good grade. I dont think I used the book once. I think there is three exams and one research paper, thats it.
The best teacher you'll have! Its not a matter of easy/hard because he has everyone so interested in what he has to say. Don't bother with the book, he covers all that you need. On tests, if you get the concept, he'll give you the credit. (He's funny!)
Excellent teacher!! He is very intelligent!! In his Soc 290 class & he knows his history! Fun personality!Does not use the book..lecture & powerpoint. Gives you the study guide for tests. Highly recommend!! Funny little laugh too :)
Awesome teacher keeps the lessons interesting!! dont even have to use the book
He is one of my favorite teachers at JJC. he legitimately LOVES what he teaches and you can tell. you never use the book; his tests come from his powerpoint notes. the tests are always 5 mult choice, 5 fill in blank, and 1 essay. 50 easy points. I've taken him for 101 and 290 and will probably take him again. take him if you can!
He is a great teacher!! Awesome!!! A plus!!!
This is one of my favorite prof. at JJC. I had a Sat. weekend class and I still enjoyed attending the class. Great notes, funny and great prof. makes you like sociology. Take him if you can!! you'll enjoy the class!!
Doyle was a pretty good guy, but most of what he talks about isn't really relevant to the material, and his study giudes for the tests could be clearer. I wish I hadn't bought the textbook for his class because it was a waste of money. His lectures never even went along with the book. I cracked it open a few times to feel better about buying it.
He rocks! interesting stories. Soc is boring, but he makes it more interesting. I didn't buy the book, got an "A" in the class.. Took notes from his lecture and studied the study guide. I made note cards and memorized everything on the study guide. Always did great!
He rocks! interesting stories. I didn't buy the book, got an "A" in the class.. Took notes from his lecture and studied the study guide. I made note cards and memorized everything on the study guide.
I had night class that didn't end until like 10pm, but I still looked forward to the class. There were only three test and a paper which were all very easy if you show up to class. He made the class very fun. I wouldn't recommend buying the book though because he doesn't base his lesson out of it.
Love him! He talks lot but its good to listen! i Enjoyed him and took 4 of his classes. all the same. do your work and youll get an A
Always had an interesting story to tell somehow related to topic. Very fair grading. The capacity of his memory is impressive, and he provides facts to support everything he says. Memorization needed to do well on his 'fill in blank' exams. A little creativity mixed in with relavant facts on his essay exams seems to produce a higher grade earned
Best Sociology instructor! To the point gives you useful lectures & to the point study guides for exams. If you attend class & study what's on the study guide one should not have a problem walking out of the class with an A!
He gets off topic a lot, but his stories are extremely interesting. I never opened the book once and received an A. He is an awesome person and teacher. Definitely recommend taking one of his classes.
Didn't even buy the text book. Got an "A" took notes, and studied off of those. He tells some funny stories. He is a great teacher!
Good teacher. Entertaining class. Learned a lot, but got off topic soooo often. Not many assignments/points, so it's easy to get an A. Don't buy the book, you will not use it!!
great teacher, easy willing to help. super easy tests, total of ten items. two-four short ans, five multiple choice. take him don't think about it. DO NOT BUY THE BOOK!!! i read one ch. answ to test all in his notes. take notes DON'T BUY THE BOOK!!!
Great teacher, very helpful, & provides students with all the necessary information to be succesful in class! Just study the study guide for his tests, & read the text book which is helpful! Other assignments are easy to complete take this teacher for all Sociology classes, knows what he is talking about. :)
Good teacher, class got boring at times, but got through it. Tests are easy, add stuff from the book to essays to show you actually are reading it. Research paper could had been discussed more, but all in all, easy class! Take this class- you will NOT regret it!
The best teacher. Very smart and interesting teacher..especially for Sat morning class! Don't buy the book. Just take notes and you will be fine. He hands out a study guide. Take him!
Worst teacher and class in the world. Blank boring powerpoints for the semester sound fun? if not don't take this class. Constant lecture and notes. No study guide either. This teacher was so immature, he had stains from the food he constantly was eating on his shirt. STAY FAR AWAY
Knows his stuff, and I learned very much in class. Reasonable when it comes to grades. Recommend him 100% if you are required to take courses he teaches. Recommend him 200% if you are interested in sociology or history, again he knows his stuff! His personality is also a plus. Everything he talks about he relates to/speaks in a sociological manner.
Great class, especially in the summer session, as I really didn't want to take a Soc. class. knows his stuff and has a good personality.
He is the best professor that I have had thus far. I highly recommend him! He makes class fun and interesting and has great knowledge. Make the smart choice. Choose Dennis Doyle. I wish he taught more classes. You won't regret taking his course! AWESOME instructor and great personality!
Mr. Doyle made sure that you were well prepared for the tests. I not only learned a lot about Sociology, but a lot on History as well. He has such passion for teaching and it really shows. As long as you come to class, study the material, and participate there is really no reason you shouldn't receive an A!
I toke his class this Summer and was so nervous at beginning of his supper fast speech. but after study his notes I was easy to fit in. He is fun and great knowledge and always has patience to answer, his notes very helpful for you to get easy A! I hightly recommend--Great class, AWESOME professor!
wish he could teach every class I need. He has been my favorite teacher that I have evr had. Best teaching method, he relates everything to history and is a brilliant man. He gives a study guide with everything on the test, study his material and an A will be easy to achieve. You will actually learn something in this class that you won't forget!
He was a pretty good teacher, however, if you plan on taking his course one day a week, i reccomend you skip this teacher. literally only one hour of a three hour class was spent talking about sociology. the rest was a debat with one other student in the class. also really boring and hardly covers any material. other than that, the class was easy
Absolutely great instructor, went above and beyond to help, circumstances beyond control he helped control and made it work when he could have just said sorry not my worry. This school needs more like Doyle!!!
Mr. Doyle is very helpful and explanatory. He keeps class interesting with stories about when he was working with the justice system. He does not just ramble on about the subject the entire class. He is a very fair grader and has a pleasent personality. I would take his class if you have to take Sociology 101. You'll enjoy it.
Professor Doyle has an extensive knowledge of history and experience within the criminal justice system that he uses in teaching the class. He's absolutely great for adult learners, but doesn't get engaged much from the younger college students. His notes are clear, he grades quite fairly, and doesn't use trickery on his tests. Enjoyed the class!!!
Professor Doyle is amazing. He knows the history behind almost everything he teaches you and always has a story to go with it. He's funny and cheesy and actually kept me awake in my night class. If you can handle of lot of talking I highly recommend Doyle. There's 3 tests and one paper plus the final, and as long as you study they aren't hard.
Prof Doyle was really a great teacher. He's very passionate and knowledgable about everything he talks about. Like others have said, if you can deal w/the (sometimes) rambling, then having no homework kind of evens it all out. He says his tests are "fill in the blank" but really they are mini-essays - don't skimp on studying, he's not that easy!
Very good teacher, loves what he does and loves to teach. The class is not very hard if you memorize all the key terms and facts. He's an extremely nice guy, love him!
You gotta take this teacher for sociology! He is soooo easy. He doesn't give out any homework! you just have 3 tests and a research paper. Make sure you dont do your research paper last second like i did! lol Its a lecture class so he talks the whole time and you take notes thats on the board. He is also really funny!
He was a great professor! His class was very easy to follow and if you use your notes to study for the test you will pass. There are only three exams and a reseach paper so there is no homework. It is a lecture class but very fun. (Side note: do not buy a book the book, he never uses it.)
He is super nice and very helpful! Enjoyed this class very much he's super funny and teaches very well!:)I recommend this class to any one who goes to night class! He makes the classes very fun all the time!
Gives study guide for all tests, nice guy who really loves his job
This class was very easy! Prof. was very funny and enjoyed what he was talking about! The Powerpoints that were used during lectures were easily readable and he gave plenty of time to copy notes. Tests were easy, mostly short answer and essay. Book is not necessary. Keep good notes and a good grade is within reach!
I love this professor! I took him for Soc 290 as well. He is extremely smart and you can tell he loves history. Keeps you interested and is very helpful. He is awesome. Highly recommend!!!
Awesome teacher. come to class, take notes, listen and study and you pass. Passionate for what he teaches and has a great sense of humor. Highly recommend
Easy class, just come to class and take notes and you'll be fine. Never bought the book and never needed it.
GREAT TEACHER!! So passionate about history, really makes it interesting...and he has a great sense of humor, so thats always nice. easy A, if you take notes. Book was not needed.
Two words:fun & fantastic. Just finishing summer class and I enjoyed it. You should take him. Two thumbs up!
Prof.Doyle really got me interested in Sociology, as I did not want to take this class during the summer, but needed to for my other university. Take good notes, tests come from them and lots of great stories he has. Really got me interested in sociology and I'm a biology major
Super easy! 1 essay & 3 tests. The final is just another test, not cumulative. If you write the ppt. word for word & study that for 20 mins. day before tests = A+. Essay is simple. He says you will need the book, but don't buy it, don't need it. Be prepared for a LONG class though. He loves to tell stories, laugh at himself, and touch his hair.
Professor Doyle really is passionate about history and sociology-three test, I liked the study guide he made, he is funny, knows his stuff and I learned a lot from his class and that was during the summer when I really didn't want to take a class, but needed to take Sociology.
Mr. Doyle is a great guy, but not a very good teacher. He brings up a point on a power point, defines it, and then talks about something completely random and unrelated to class for 20 minutes. He repeats that cycle every day. His tests are difficult because they are mostly short answer, and you have to define terms word for word.
Passionate & intelligent.Tells a lot of stories, not relating to lecture, but amusing.I took the 10wk course w/ each class being 4hrs,so he had to fill the time.Only 3 tests and 1 research paper. No HW.Gives study guides that are based off powerpoint and lecture. NEVER used book! Just study & google as needed. Attendance is a must too. Got an 'A.'
This guy was extremely passionate about what he taught. Class was sometimes boring but for the most part interesting. 3 tests, 1 SUPER easy paper. Test questions come straight from the study guide. Studied for tests/did paper the night before it was due. Easy A.
I really didn't want to take a history class, but I will say that Professor Doyle has alot of knowledge and really made me like it better then I thought I would. He also has a way of making it interesting-lots of notes from power point.
Mr. Doyle was an amazing teacher. Most people complain that he goes off topic in class... it is strictly because he has went through the book and pulled out all the important information for you. He lets you know what is going to be on the test, it is short answers, NOT MULT CHOICE. He is an easy professor if you are responsible and do your work!
Okay, so the class is super easy. Notes are great. However to me his teaching methods are off. In my eyes atleast. Alot of the time he gets off topic. He uses a lot of verbal fillers and I mean A LOT !
Professor Doyle is an AWESOME professor. If you don't care for sociology or history, you will after his class.
AWESOME teacher. First lectures that I've genuinely enjoyed going to! He's passionate and knowledgeable about the subject and tells a lot of real life stories. Also discusses current events. Test questions are directly from the notes, no surprises! Didn't use the book once. One of the best teachers I've had, I would recommend him to anyone!
Professor Doyle really made my night class interesting because it was like almost a three hour class. I usually don't like history, but Professor Doyle talked about history as his passion and that made the class even fun to me. The tests that are from the power points, one paper that was like 5 pages long and one final exam.
Professor Doyle has a true passion for history and Sociology, I took the class in the summer it was a 6 week course for three hours and he kept it interesting and had good stories. He provides you exactly what is on the tests and as long as you attend class you will get all of the notes need and he has a quick turn around on grades.
Professor Doyle loves his job, and he is always willing to take the extra time to help his students. That makes for a very positive experience for his students.
Attendance is mandatory. Took him during the summer, exams were very easy and straight forward and we usually got out early. Gives reasonable breaks ! I would recommend him
Summer Class I didn't have to try very hard to pass on the tests. Pay attention to the long off topic lectures and note down the power points. Very easy study guides as long as you took those notes or paid attention. There was a research paper. I got a D due to failing the final. Likes to ask "Isn't that true" on average 25 times a night, or more.
He is an awesome teacher. He is willing to help you out. You just have to stand up and ask for help.
Okay! Dennis is super sweet, and an okay teacher. You must know the definitions word for word to do well on his tests. Book isn't needed. And you will hear his stories on how a kid set a garage on fire at least one time each time your class meets. We had a total of 180 pts for the entire semester 50pts per test (3 tests total) 30 pts for paper.
His class is relatively easy if you show up and pay attention. He is interesting and funny. Great class. I would take him again!
Good teacher. He makes the class easy as long as you take notes and study for the tests with his study guide.
Mr. Doyle is very passionate and may get off track a bit but he was a nice teacher. Advice: DO NOT BUY BOOK! His power-points are all you need to know and if you want an A from experience remember word for word from his slides. Make note cards out of them as you go along and just study those and you will pass for sure. It was an easy A.
Wonderful professor!! Attendance and taking good notes are essential in this class, but if you do that your guaranteed a passing grade.
He only gives out tests, nothing else. Test grades and going to each class is the only points he gives you. There is no extra credit or make up work you can do if you do bad on a test. When you take the tests, if it isn't just like what he wrote down then it is wrong.
3 tests, a paper assignment, and the total I think are only 180 points, but prof. doyle has a lot of good information that he talks about in class. no problem as I studied for the tests.
Dr. Doyle rambles a lot, but he knows his information well. There were 3 tests that were straight from the notes, which is good because you don't have tons of information. You are there for the entire class with him telling stories, but you get all the information. There was a research paper that was easy. Boring, but easy A.
Professor Doyle rambles a lot & might bore you to sleep but he is passionate about what he teaches. Take really good notes because that IS the test. If you study your notes really good, you're good to go for the test. He's helpful & fun, I'd def take him again if I could.
Prof. Doyle is exactly what you want in a college professor. He definitely knows what he's talking about and he is very redundant with the facts that he shares, but that technique is what made me learn the whole Unit of Soc. He has plenty informative stories and is ALWAYS positive. If you have a passion for learning, this man will change your life.
He's an okay teacher. He talks a lot, pretty much the entire class. He makes a lot of corny jokes. No matter what he says, you do not need the book, just take notes from the power points. The tests are mainly short answer when it comes to the definitions so you really need to make sure you know them! He also assigns a 5pg paper.
Has a diverse professional background and can relate to average student. I enjoyed his class and personality, would highly recommend.
I absolutely loved this teacher! He was really nice and his lectures were actually interesting. Hes really passionate about what he teaches. Such a good teacher! I would highly recommend.
Professor Doyle definitely knows his subjects. He goes into depth about everything he teaches. He tends to go off on rabbit trails and tells stories that have nothing to do with the course, but it's always interesting. Lectures are long, but he gives 20 minute breaks. Doesn't post anything on iCampus so go to class for notes!!
The first test will catch you off guard but if you study every word of the notes you will pass the tests just fine. I got 100% on my tests from making note cards straight from my notes. It is critical to take notes in this class but he provides a powerpoint and whats on the powerpoint is what is on the test.
Enjoyable lectures. Professor Doyle lectures are passionate and insightful! Learned a lot.
He's fairly easy. 3 tests that are simple as long as you take notes and study them you should get an A on the test. Gives out study guides. One research type like paper. And as long as you put effort into the paper you should get an A. Great teacher.
I had him for a 2.5 hour long class so the lectures seemed to never end. Most of the time he would go off subjects. However, his stories were always interesting. As long as you take notes and study for the exams you'll have no problem passing.
This is going to have to bullet pointed b/c not enough room: 4 total grades unless you miss more than one class 3 tests (50pts ea) 1 30pt paper. 180 total. Book is useless. Test is only on slides. Copy ALL material on slides Study/memorize slides and you'll be golden Uses to many "ums, ya knows, uhs" Long stories I actually planned my C grade out
Bullet points b/c lack of space: I planned out by C grade and didn't do paper. 180pts in the class. 3 50pt tests (5 MC, 5SA, 1 essay)1 paper. Lots of stories mildly relevant. Lot of "ums, ya knows, uhhs. "Book irrelevant. Tests are exclusively on PowerPoint slides. Copy all material and memorize for test. Looking for his words not yours. He repeat
Okay, Professor Doyle was a really nice guy, but he NEVER put any grades in until the class was over. There were three tests, one research paper and he gave pretty decent notes. I took him based on all the good feedback on here, but I actually didn't like the class. He gave no hw, so if you're like me & need it to help you he doesn't give or e.c.
His lectures are always off topic, long and boring. Easy class though if you show up and copy down the power point notes word for word. For the test make sure to memorize all the notes word for word as well because he is looking for his words on the short answers and essay question. If you have a good memory TAKE THIS CLASS. It will be super easy.
I'm glad I took the social problems class from Professor Doyle, three tests are from his power points, one paper that is five pages, uses lectures for your notes. Prof Doyle has a lot of knowledge of social problems and his helpful when I needed it.
I absolutely loved this class and Profesyle. He is a fascinating instructor who is well-read, and extremely knowledgeable. He brought history alive and made the class very interesting. Lectures were quite enjoyable and his stories have a theme and if you listen carefully, serve to correlate well with the material that he is teaching. Fantastic!
He was a awesome professor. He knew what he was talking about and was very clear with what you wanted to know. He made the class interesting. As long as you pay attention and take good notes you will do fine in the class. His tests are exactly what is on his notes. Loved his class!
Informative lectures. Stick to the PowerPoints for the essay questions on test.
Awesome teacher! Talks a lot but always very interesting. Gets off topic a lot, but you never get behind and it's fairly entertaining. Class is based off 4ish tests and a paper. His study guides cover almost eveything. Flash cards help! He also stays very non opnionated with controversial topics that pop up.
Mr. Doyle makes every class interesting, who cares how long classes are they're NEVER boring. He has many awesome life experiences and great connections. Omg he's funny so he makes the class more interesting. You DON'T need the book just take notes, study all HIS notes for tests and your A/B is guaranteed. he'll make you want to learn more!!!
So glad I took him. I took him for 290 over the summer and that was probably the best choice. Very knowledgeable but tends to ramble. Don't think I would've made a full semester cause would've gotten bored. But YOU DO NOT NEED THE BOOK. And STUDY GUIDES ARE BASICALLY THE TEST. Recommend 100%
he was always the last one in the class and the first to leave. he rambled on about stuff that had nothing to do with the class. Then gave tests on information he never talked about.
ALWAYS LATE TO CLASS lol. But is an overall a very nice guy who cares about his students. easy a, considering the study guide basically takes the test for you. i'd recommend if you're looking for an easy elective class, but for a social science major, i'm not sure you'll get much out of it. Depends on what youre looking for.
I really liked his lectures and this class is very easy, as he always said "this is a class about us" and it truly is! If you like sociology this class is a must and with him as a teacher that's for sure ! he always gives study guides for the exams and they help a lot !! as long as you read your notes and study guides you will pass this class.
Easiest class I've taken thus far. Dennis goes on long lectures over a very few slides, and only tests us on the slides. Needless to say, the tests are easy. And besides one 5 page paper, all there was was three tests!
I'm not going to lie, Professor Doyle's lectures are awful! AWFUL! Maybe because I took the class at night and it was 3hrs. His notes are what he wants to see on his exams, so memorize them. You only have 3 test and a paper, the paper is stressful because you have no idea if you're doing it right or not. The class is an easy A though!
Lectures seem to go off track, take good notes. Don't under estimate his style he can be a tough grader but there are only 3 tests and one paper. Would have received an A but did poorly on first exam. He doesn't always follow everything in the book so take good notes he likes to see those as your answer. Some multiple choice/ some write in.
I had him for 101 and took him again because it was an easy A, but I have learned a lot from both classes. No need for the book because his tests are word for word from the powerpoint slides. His lectures do go on tangents and I've heard a lot of the same jokes from last time, but overall he's a good teacher. He doesn't post on iCampus though.
Very good class, as professor Doyle always took time to teach me when sometime was not correct to me. I'm full time student and with full time work and I'm happy with class and learned from class. My notes and readings from book helped with my grade and professor is always good with lecture as well.
Very good professor Doyle Dennis. I learned much from lecture. Very interesting topics he discussed. Must work hard on research paper and attend class. Professor Doyle Dennis does not like student to miss class.
Great teacher also has a good personality! I really liked him and highly recommend him to anyone.
I took him for SOC 101, SOC 290, and then HIST 104. He is my favorite professor @ JJC, besides Margot Underwood. He is passionate about History & Sociology. His exams are based on his notes, so you don't need the textbook (optional for you). "Either you know the information or you don't", his words. Amazing professor who cares about his students!
Class was way test heavy, does not use icampus
doyle is awesome! yes, his class is lecture-heavy, but the information that you go over in class on the power point is the pretty much the exact make-up of the test. he wants his students to succeed.
Grade is based off of 3 exams and 1 research paper. The exams are easy though, just study the powerpoint notes verbatim. If you're not good with memorization, this might not be the class for you. He really looks for the key words he uses on the terms. Lectures are heavy with info, I nodded off sometimes, but I also learned so much. Great, great guy
Professor Doyle is a super nice guy but his sociology class left a lot to be desired. He gave lots of lectures every class and then the tests are based off those lectures. I don't feel like I really learned anything from those lectures though- lots of times he'd just go off on tangents about totally unrelated stuff.
nice guy, but he gets off topic a lot only does 2 short slides each class. does not use icampus and that is a PAIN
This class is so impersonal. Doyle never takes the time to learn our names, even in the final few weeks of the semester. Lectures are boring and have nothing to do with what will be on exams. Grade consists of three exams and a paper. Grades papers solely on opinion. Refuses to use icampus. WASTE OF TIME!!!!!
Prof. Doyle has three tests, one research paper and has a study guide for each test. Lecture based class-but know how to study your notes for the test-very specific tests question. Overall, good class and a good guy, I think I will take him for a History class as well.
Read the book if you're not interested in lectures. It's college -expect to read required text. Doyle's good & does his best to get questions answered. A girl had attitude and lashed out at Doyle b/c she was SO rude + disrespectful. She was in another class w/ me & all she'd do was sleep. She eventually left. Keep in mind the types of raters here.
Dennis is one of the best teachers I've had at JJC. It seems he's very passionate about history and you can tell through all his stories and how much he knows about the subject. Take a lot of notes and study them for the tests and you'll do fine. All around great teacher.
He has amazing lectures, but it can be boring to someone who doesn't like history. Attendance is mandatory as you NEED to copy the notes. Theres no homework and only 3 tests and a paper, but all are incredibly easy. If you copy the notes and study them in HIS words, you'll pass with an A.I didn't even get one point off for any of the tests or paper
Odd dude but super friendly. His tests are literally his powerpoints so just copy the notes and you'll be fine. Bring a book or something to keep you busy during class, he does go off topic a lot! If you are bad at memorizing, do not take this class. You literally need to memorize the notes for the test.
He's a really nice guy and a decent teacher. He goes off topic a lot but that's fine if you don't like to sit there and get lectured hard. Copy down every powerpoint because the exams are just the powerpoints so don't take if you can memorize notes overall pretty solid just make sure you study and go to the review sessions.
Prof. Doyle is great-easy to talk to and has a lot of experience. And I've liked his classes, but know the notes from his power points, as he doesn't use canvas much. Also, his three tests are from your notes, he has one essay paper that is only five pages. Overall, I liked him and his class style, although every class is a lecture .
A textbook is mandatory, but not once is it referenced, and tests are based directly off of powerpoint slides. Slides are not provided online, only in class, and attendance is a factor in your grade. Examples and references are purely personal experience, providing a biased learning environment, and they go way off topic, leaving you frustrated.
Very knowledge and passionate about social problems and professor doyle know's his stuff, but it is lecture heavy and know his power points as that is mostly the test he writes. I found the topics interesting and they relate to my major and this is my second class and he gives out study guides, only 175 points. good guy and good stories.
I only took him for a 6 week summer class, so this might not be the best judgement but I hated his teaching style. The movies and lectures felt repeated. The test were hard, and the formatting for all of them was weird. The class for me was 3 test and a paper. He does not use ICampus.
What can I say about Dennis. I took all of his classes including the Honors classes. I liked his teaching style, he wasn't overbearing or arrogant. He even gave me a good reference for Graduate School. What more can you ask for?
He teaches class as if it is history rather than sociology. His lectures are irrelevant and usually have nothing to do with what is on the PowerPoint. Dont take him if you actually want to learn or if you get bored easily.
Prof. Doyle has a straight forward style, which after being in the military, I like this style of teaching of to the point. prof. Doyle knows his history and has a true passion for it and that goes a long way. Three tests from lecture and readings-can be funny during his lectures at times. I would take him again if I need to.
Awesome, hilarious, and chill guy. Only 2 tests, a research paper, and the non-cumulative final. Totally a breeze. I do warn, he does mainly lecture, and if you dislike professors that go off topic when they lecture, this may not be the professor for you.
I have had Professor Doyle for two classes. He is an awesome teacher & person! He cares about his students and really knows his content area. As long as you study for quizzes and tests, you should have no problem in the class! Awesome guy!
I have had Professor Doyle for two classes. He is an awesome teacher & person! He cares about his students and really knows his content area. As long as you study for quizzes and tests, you should have no problem in the class! Awesome guy! (Discard other rating haha)
I took SOC 101 Honors with Professor Doyle and it's not that hard to get an A as long as you study. Hi exams are very notes based and my tip if you want to do well on the exams is write and rewrite every single information that he tells you will be on the test. Muscle memory will be your best friend for this course.
professor Doyle is overall a really good person, hes funny and loves to tell stories. If this is your major I would probably recommend taking a different teacher, but for an elective he's great. We only had four assignments the entire semester so you have to do good on them to pass but if you do the study guides he gives you its an automatic A.
I took this class online and through out the semester instead of assignments he gave us three essays instead. If essays are not your thing then don't take this class but otherwise he's a good choice!
I took this class to learn something, and learned nothing. He gives you 3 papers, which are easy, but he does not read and grade them. As long as you have 5 pages you get a 50/50. While it is great, I learned absolutely nothing and there is no interaction at all. You do not need to read anything to pass.
I took Professor Doyles sociology class online. Throughout the entire semester, we had to write three essays, which required a minimum of five pages. No tests, no quizzes, no homework. Super easy! I highly recommend!
only had a few papers ( 5-7 pgs) and one disc. post very easy
This online class was only 3 essays and 1 discussion board post. Getting the book helped a lot with writing the essays. The power points are ok but not enough info. I found most of my info for the essays from other websites. Each essay has about a month before it's due so more than enough time to prepare. Essays have multiple topics to choose from.
The class was literally just 3 essays and 1 discussion board. So, easy if you can just get it done, but there's no personal level to this class. He hadn't posted anything for the first few WEEKS of the class. Also his feedback is horrible. He had copy and pasted essay responses to multiple students. The same message to each. :/
Professor Doyle was a great professor and always came across as nice! Assignments mostly consisted of essays on topics from the textbook but he had clear instructions on what needed to be done. His grades were fair and were always in quickly. As long as you do the assignments this class is easy!
I loved Professor Doyle. I took his Honors class for 280 and I loved how the class was run. You're graded on 3 papers and 2 discussion boards. I was terrified going into it because there were so few grades, but it has been a breeze. The grading criteria is very cut-and-dry, so if you get the work done you'll do well. No surprises with Prof. Doyle.
Professor Doyle is super laid back and makes all of his assignments clear. We only had to do 2 discussion boards and 3 papers the entire semester and we had a month or more to do each one. Just turn in your work and follow directions and you should end the semester with an A. I have 100% in the class right now.
This professor was... fine, I guess. It was three essays and two discussion boards. There was a powerpoint for each essay you had to write. There overall wasn't really much to learn... You spend most of the time finding sources online to reference in your paper, and that's about it.
I took Professor Doyle for Spring 2021 semester and all I got to say is he is a great teacher. Just follow directions and do the assignments and you should be set for his class. He gives great feedback on your work.
Prof. Doyle is REALLY laid back and makes all of his assignments clear. We only had to do 2 discussion boards and 3 papers and we had a month for each one. he is very helpful! if you're stuck, don't be afraid to ask him for help! Just turn in your work and follow directions and you should end the class with an A! I ENDED THE CLASS WITH AN A+
Prof Doyle is one of the best teachers I've had so far. I took sociology 101 with him over the summer. It was a 6 week online course. We only had to do 3 essays and 2 discussion posts for the whole class. As long as you read the syllabus and follow instructed guidelines you will get an A. Definitely recommend.
6 assignments that are all pretty easy. Just do the work and you should get an A.
Great professor! Took him for a 16wk class & only had 5-7assignments. 4 are essays with plenty of time to finish and are pretty easy. There was maybe like 2 discussion boards. Usually gives a good grade as long as you follow the rubric. Would definitely take again & recommend!! Not stressful at all
There really isn't much to Sociology 101. For his class, it consists of 6 assignments and only 6 assignments. 3 easy discussion boards, and 3 easy essays. They are all very simple and you have several weeks to complete them!
Professor Doyle is such a nice, laid back, and caring person. He barely gave out any assinments and told us what we needed to know on the tests to pass with an A. I definitely would take him again.
For Sociology, Professor Doyle was extremely easy to take. 3 Discussion boards which do not require too many words to write, like 150 or so along with 3 papers that you must write. Papers can be long, but you only have to do 3 for the entire semester along with the DBs. Really easy class to take, so you should take it!
I took this class in Fall 2022. Not a very hard class, but make sure to focus and stay on top of your notes. Not much homework, Discussions relatively easy as well. Make sure to reflect on notes for the tests, that is where I struggled most. Notecards really helped. Overall Great class, you just have to put the work in for a good grade.
I'm a straight A student struggling to even pass his class. Only 3 discussion boards and 3 tests make your grade. He doesn't give any outside of class resources. He responds to emails, but dodges your questions. He takes an hour to give you three bullet points of notes, doesn't test on the book or his study guide. Bad educator, no take away.
Never used textbook the entirety of class. He uses personal experiences to explain class topics so it is very biased. If you miss his class you will struggle because notes are not provided online. He takes an hour to display notes and ramble about friends, his past, and being a parole officer. Waste of time if you want to learn sociology
This class is very boring and the notes are the only thing that matter. You can zone out the teacher and copy the notes and pass this class easily. If you want to learn sociology or get a better grasp of it might be better taking another teacher but it is an easy A if you show up to class and review notes for test
Worst professor I've had to deal with at JJC so far. Super boring lectures with minimal information; he reads a slide or two off and then goes on tangents for the rest of class. Doesn't post the materials, so you have to be in class to get any specific info. Super slow grader despite there only being 6 assignments for the entire semester. Horrible
Professor Doyle is very laid back, which comes with pros and cons. Pros being the assignments and tests were easy. However, he says the same feedback for every discussion and grades assignments weeks later (even when there's one discussion board every so often). If you need easy credit, take this class online.
Professor Doyle was really good! He kept the class interesting. He always liked to ask questions from students and answered questions as well. The homework load is pretty easy and test were from class power points and study guide. For the tests he lets you know everything you need to do well.
great teacher-as long as you do the work. couldn't say better things about him. very passionate about his lectures-has a good study guide for each of the tests and final exam is just over last unit of class. i would take him again.
I took his online course, and now he is a great professor, but I would've enjoyed his class more if he had more of an online presence. If you like teachers who aren't active in the online class, this is the teacher for you! I prefer video lectures and interaction, but that is not to say he isn't a great teacher. His topics were very informative!
Doyle was a great professor, however He would go over stuff multiple times on accident which took up time in an already shortened class. In class was 90% power points and taking notes from the screen but you did have to pick up on some of the stuff he was saying as it would be in the test. Make sure to do his study guides or you will fail tests.
Really nice guy, wish I could have him for some other classes. There is a few test and discussion boards throughout the semester which are all fairly straight forward if studied and should be a an A if effort is put in. Only minor issue was we went off tangents once in a while but you can tell he enjoys teaching and is a genuine person. Recommend
You can tell that he does truly care, but he goes off-topic A-LOT. Every class there is an unnecessary story with little no relation to the lecture/unit we are on. The only grades are a discussion board and a test every unit. Class is all powerpoint slides and notes. The tests are usually all open response so you have to really know the material.
Horrible class. Teacher goes on rants every 5 minutes on unrelated topics. Tests are all open response, plus only 6 grades (3 tests, 3 discussion board) entire class. Everyone in the class is failing.
You have a total of 6 graded assignments the whole class. You have 3 discussion boards and 3 unit tests. There is a lecture every class and for half the time he talks about random things that have no correlation to what you are actually learning. His tests are 3-5 multiple choice, then 3-10 free response, then ending with an essay question
Good person, but was a difficult class for me. There was very very few assignments: just a couple tests and discussion boards. The tests were all open response for the most part, so it's hard to answer the questions unless you can remember the material to the dot. He tells the same stories every class. Kinda wastes the short time we already have.
Prof. Doyle was really an awesome professor provided you are genuinely interested in the class you are taking with him. I took a few of his classes and he teaches history with a passion that is actually super rare. He is very interested and cares about teaching it. He is very accessible and approachable. Tests can be a little tough however.
Doyle is a laid-back professor, but his lectures can be hit or miss. If you stay engaged and use resources like unstuckstudy for study prep, you can do well. Assignments are straightforward, and the class is an easy credit if you put in the work.
Professor Doyle is a very kind and caring guy. The lectures go all class and he only assigns 3 discussion boards and 3 unit exams. He gives a very clear study guide and tells you what the format of the exam will be.
Need to be more understanding. No good with responding.
Very easy gen ed humanities credit. Do all the assignments and you'll get an A!
He was a really good teacher and his slide shows were very helpful. He left great comments on the discussion posts and was a very good grader. Definitely recommend
Not a bad professor, but tends to talk and ramble about things not related to the class for the first 30 minutes and it gets frustrating after a while. Class is easy to understand and intriguing otherwise, and I found discussions interesting. He's a friendly guy and he does have a lot of interesting stories.
