Makes a difficult subject like physics easy to understand through examples and a very clear lecture. Great teacher!
very clear and fun.
This guy sucks. I am in his class right now and can not find the way to keep my friggin eyes open as he endlessly babbles about nothing of relevance. His experiments suck and if he wasn't so damn hot, i would not know what to do.
I like how someone said "if he wasn't so damn hot.." But anyway, great teacher for students looking for a science class they can pass (if you're horrible at any science like me). Makes it all very understandable and gives reviews. Just go to cla
He is very clear, and does a lot of in-class experiements. Good professor.
I can't understand a single thing he's talking about and I had straight A's in physics through high school. Horrible!
He is a horrible teacher. He is so unclear and gives awful notes. Sometimes he changes his answers multiple times. Don't take this class!!!
I didn't have to study and got a B. He makes physics into something a monkey could understand.
His class isnt hard but you have to do alot on your own. Make sure you memorize the reviews. His notes and the book do almost nothing. so you have to google all the answers to the HW and the reviews but 90 percent of the questions pop right up when you google them. In other words you can pass his class and never learn a damn thing! hahaha
Didn't study a bit for the class, all you have to do is show up every day. He does expierments everyday practically so that you can understand the principles. I got a real easy A, and that was honestly with out even buying the book. Oh, do take notes though if you go... Something to look back on for tests.
For a introductory physics class, his is not too difficult. If you go to his office hours, he is willing to help with any questions. The tests aren't too difficult but if you study and review the hw probs and review. The texbook site, the "how stuff works" site, and of course, google help you out with finding answers.
An easy introductory physics class. The lectures are interesting, alot of visual aid, but horrible at giving notes during lecture. Quizzes at the end of every class so dont take if you plan on skipping. The test are easy, study guides are given. There isn't a cumulative exam.
Great guy! Very understanding. All of the exam questions are from the homework and quizzes. He made physics interesting (just the experiments). Be sure to do all homework, it's worth a lot at the end
His class is really easy, and when studing for his tests all you have to do is complete the homework assignments and the multiple choice study guide and the questions are the same on the test.
The lectures are relatively boring, but the experiments he does are cool. He forgets what he is talking about and rambles on a lot and when things don't work, he often wastes time trying to fix them. The quizzes are easy, but he doesn't really help if you get one wrong. The class is easy enough, though.
The lectures are long but bearable considering you meet only once a week. He gives you a study guide for every test, the questions come directly from it. Alot of online work, most answers available. The tests are NOT cumulative. Fun teacher with lots of in class experiements to demonstrate the topics. PRS questions are easy!
Dr. Duke was a pretty cool guy. There are short five question quizzes at the end of every class, but you only need to get three questions correct and he drops the lowest two quizzes. His studyguides are basically the test questions. Do yourself a favor and take this class!
It's a good class. Most of the answers to the homework can be found online. There's not a lot of work, but you have to understand the concepts in order to do well on the tests. There are 4 tests that count 80% of your grade, so you have to do well on them. But, it's not that hard since you get a study guide that has a lot of the test questions on it
Lectures are really boring and monotonous. There are attendance quizes after each lecture, so you have to go to class. Most homework answers can be found online and you get a study guide for each test. Wouldn't take his class again though.
Terrible. No study guides. Homework questions are really hard and require a lot of time and effort because none of it is covered in the lectures. Only thing easy is the PRS questions which count for nothing.
needs to stay at phy1020. mumbles through the important things and goes off on random bits of history for no reason. arrogant in recitation. Avoid for 2049.
He is so great! Definitely take this class its really easy and hes nice and kinda goofy. if you know the study guide its a guaranteed 100. he rocks
Easy class, but boring at times. Attendance is mandatory for iclicker quizzes, but those are extremely easy. If you can get almost all the answers for your quizzes right, you are golden, guaranteed A.
So easy! There are weekly short essays as homework and quizzes, but the quiz questions come directly from the ch reviews in the book. The tests are the same way. As long as you find the answers and then memorize them, you'll be sure to get an A on all tests. Sitting through class is boring, and you do need to get iclicker points, but it's bearable.
Easy class. Weekly assignments and quizzes can get annoying but as long as you find the answers for the online quizzes you are golden. The online quiz questions come from the book and that is what the test is made from. Class is very boring but there are iclicker quizzes everyday so attendance is important. Easy A if you do all online work.
Easy class. SUPER BORING!!! but if you attend you get extra points. tests are right out of the book so your fault if you do bad. easy class. i would recommend him since tests are easy and not a lot o studying required and outside work
There's a reason why this class is called "Baby Physics." Easy, but boring. Just leave class after doing the clicker questions (he doesn't care). The essays and quizzes are ridiculously easy. Take this if you want to boost your GPA
This professor is average but the class he teaches can either be your personal hell or an easy ride. Unless your a physics guru a study group is mandatory to do well on the online homework and the tests (which are average.) His lectures won't help you understand much, its all about who you sit next to for the recitations and study with.
Seriously the easiest class in the world. The content is actually interesting most of the time. The test questions come directly from the book and his online assignments are meant for middle schoolers. Must take for an easy A
Super easy A. I find physics really interesting, so I actually read the textbook because it was really interesting. The exams questions are straight out of the book so you just have to memorize the answers to get a 100%.
Easier than some high school classes! Attendance was pointless. Pretty much died from boredom and learned nothing. The test comes from the study questions in the book. Really nice guy though!
Dr. Duke is a good teacher, but his lectures are boring and pointless. You only need to go to class for the clicker Q's. Weekly assgts., so definitely get the txtbk. No final, just 3 exams, all made up of the online quiz Q's. It's a very easy class - just do the assgts./online quizzes, clicker Q's, and memorize quiz Q's for tests and you're solid.
Getting an A in this class is ridiculously easy. Just do the hw assignments and quizzes and go to class to answer clicker questions. The tests come straight from the questions at the end of every chapter. His lectures are kinda boring but you have to go for clicker questions so just sit on insta/twitter/fb for an hour and a half once a week.
Take this class for an easy A! All of the test questions come straight out of the book. Every week there is a quiz on blackboard which also come straight from the book (Literally the exact questions at the end of each chapter). He is also a very nice professor and extremely helpful if you have a question/problem. Take his class!
Easiest class at FSU. Get the book because the writing assignments are from them. Tests are generated verbatim from the weekly online quiz. If you don't get an "A" you need other help. Also a genuinely nice guy
This course is ridiculously easy. Show up to class just for the clicker points. He doesn't seem to mind that everyone is listening to musicdoing work for other classes during his lecture. Exams are the exact questions from the End of Chapter Review Q's in the textbook. Sign up for this class and get an A.
Honestly, take this class. It's so easy. The hw answers are all online and the questions are the same as the test. He's also a really nice, understanding person. Love him as a teacher.
The class is super easy. Weekly assignments due that are annoying, but still very easy. 3 tests made directly from the quizzes that are in your book. Must have the book! Only annoying thing is that it's a clicker class so you want to go to class to get the points.
Every week there is a lecture to attend (iclickers are used for attendance purposes), a quiz to take, and two writing assignments (a maximum of two pages of writing on a weekly basis). The textbook pdf version is online for free. Test and quiz questions are at the end of the chapter and test banks can be found online. I got an A on every test :)
Need Iclickers. Hes a pretty boring professor but he has some experiments that will catch your attention. All test material is straight from the book and online. Word for word. Weekly quizzes that are easy and are also straight from the book. Weekly assignments are graded by TAs, so its to their discretion how they grade it.
Dennis Duke is great. Make sure to have an iClicker because he does participation points. Weekly quiz and writing assignment from the textbook so I would recommend buying it. All 3 tests are word for word questions from the textbook so it is easy to study for. Recommend for those who need science credit. Super understanding and great professor!
Great guy, his lectures are a bit boring, but you will need to attend class and have an iclicker. Weekly quizzes and Essay, quizzes are the questions in the textbook. 3 Tests worth 50% of your final grade, but questions are previous quiz questions.
Highly recommend. Thorough lectures, interesting topics covered, easy to score high on the quizzes and exams (questions are straight from the textbook), class meets once a week, short papers assigned weekly, iclicker quiz questions (completion not accuracy) give attendance points. An ideal professor and class for this non-science major!
Simple physics. Easy class and professor.
The class is easy. He does iclickers, so show up... it is only once a week. There are 3 tests total, and all of the questions that are asked are in the back of each chapter. So make a quizlet or use the ones already there and memorize. Otherwise, a quiz and short essay every week. Lectures are boring so bring other homework to do.
He gives you all the questions to the tests so very easy to get an A. There are also weekly assignments that aren't too bad but require effort. Must show up to class for clicker points!
Dr. Duke is a great professor, his lectures are very thorough and he tries to make physics as do-able as possible. The course itself is not as intuitive as PHY2048 but he breaks it down. For summer term we had 12 mini-exams, one each week, and 2 were dropped. Doing the homework and showing up for recitation are easy points. Would recommend.
The weekly assignments were kind of annoying, but overall the easiest class at FSU, Professor Duke is a very nice guy always willing to help students as well.
This is by far the easiest class I've ever taken. Professor Duke makes it very clear from the start what is expected of you in the class. Honestly, rent the textbook and just read the chapters and you'll be in for one easy ride.
Write papers just about every week, each paper around 1.5-2 pages. Attendance quizzes taken at the beginning of class for completion. What you learn in class is not what the tests are on. Read as much of the textbook and use quizlet to study. If the grading scale wasn't lowered, this class would be much harder. Do the weekly papers while in class.
Class is super easy but the weekly assignments get annoying after a while. Test's are all past quiz question which are all on quizlet so just study a quizlet before and you'll get an A. Duke is super boring but you have to show up for iClicker. Watch a movie or study during class or else you'll fall asleep. Overall the class is an easy A though.
This class is easier than high school gym. Come to class for iClicker questions and then just do other class work or Netflix. Weekly quizzes and 2 short essays to do weekly. They are miserably boring and annoying but easy enough for a 2nd grader to complete. If you need a science core, take this class. You won't regret it. Great professor.
Very hard class. Only good thing is that there is not midterm or final if you take it in the summer. Honestly not worth it though. You get nothing out of this class but misery and sadness. He curves at the end which is awesome but all in all would NEVER take this class with this professor
just show up with an iclicker and you will pass. The exam questions are past quiz questions. If this is an option that you need to fulfill a credit take this one. Very easy A, you won't regret it. The only part is sitting through the class because its boring but he usually does the iclickers in the beginning so you could slide out after easy.
This class is not meant for people who are to lazy to show up. If you just go to class you will likely get an A the exams are past homework questions and all on quizlet. His homework assignments are annoying but you can miss like 3. Not going to class will affect your grade especially if you skipped more than half of them like me.
Cutest old man ever! His tests were exactly the study guide. And the weekly online quizzes were on quizlet. He graded the essays kind of hard and they were annoying but not hard. Definitely take this class! I would take it over and over again if I had to, so easy & kind of interesting.
Mr. Duke's class is such an easy A! All test and quiz questions are in the back of each chapter- VERBATIM! The only annoying thing is that the T.A's grade the essays pretty hard but Duke drops 3 of your lowest essays at the end of the semester.
Duke is not a good lecturer. He is extremely unclear, even when asked to clarify, and asks a lot of iclicker questions but then doesn't give the correct answer. The fact that you get nothing out of the lectures makes the homework and tests really hard, and the info in them do not align. just do yourself a favor and dont take dennis duke
Easy A, I clicker points, one assignment and one quiz per week. 3 tests the entire year that are not hard to study for. Take Dennis !!!
Don't take him. Doesn't cover material in class before it is asked on homework. Mini-exams are hard, and randomly decides if they will be short answer or multiple choice. Mid term and final written by multiple professors, so terribly hard because you don't know what will be asked. Hoping he gives a big curve at the end, but we will see.. don't take
He doesn't really care about anything, so his lectures are pointless. As someone who doesn't have physics come naturally to them, this class was awful. I got through physics 1 doing pretty well, but this is a whole new game. Wouldn't recommend. His mini exams don't match the hw. The hw doesn't match the lecture.
Easiest science core. Class is once a week on Tuesday. Don't even have to pay attention in class, which you only have to go to for clicker points. The short papers every week get annoying but not too bad. Quizzes and exam questions on quizlet, so look those over before. EASY A for a class you don't even have to try in. 86 is the cut off for A/B
Pretty bad.
Dennis Duke is an inadequate professor for this course. When confronted with questions regarding the material, he becomes defensive and gives unclear answers rather than attempting to help the students learn the material. He doesn't seem very knowledgeable regarding the course content. The mini exams don't match the homework or the lectures.....
Class has a generous curve, but that is only because the exams don't match the material on the HWs or lectures. So if you want to actually learn just teach yourself. Lab will make you want to drop out but that is your only grade saver so good luck.
Overexplains the easy things, like how to use Canvas and register iClickers for example, but doesn't work out actual problems, just gives a vague outline without clarification. Don't bother going to lectures, he doesn't explain a thing. Make sure to get a good study group and go to recitation if you're not a physics wiz.
FOR SUMMER SESSION: The mini exams have nothing to do with what you learn in class, sometimes theyre easy but sometimes theyre very difficult. You also only have 15 minutes to answer. They are multiple choice but it is A-H so a 1/8 chance you can choose correctly. And if you make a small mistake that answer is also an option which sucks. dont take
I took Duke for summer semester, so I'm not 100% sure what the Fall/Spring class looks like. However, I can say that the miniexam which he gives at the end of the week will have absolutely nothing to do with whatever he has been teaching. It also won't be over the LONCAPA he posts. I would not recommend taking this guy whatsoever.
Dennis is a very boring professor, however, this is by far one of the easiest classes I've taken. Each week there is a small quiz (from 15-25 questions) and a written essay due. Come to class and answer the iClicker points (you don't have to get the questions right). 3 Exams that are very easy. Use quizlets to study for the quizzes and exams.
This class was so easy. Do your work and study for the quizzes/tests that are found online and you will get an A. Also, he does iclicker attendance so make sure you go to class. Professor Duke is such a sweet professor. Definitely recommend taking if you need to fulfill your requirement!
This is the easiest class Ive taken at FSU. All the quizzes/tests are found online. Theres only 2 small assignments each week (that i do in class during lecture) and iclicker for attendance. No essays, easy A, and hes a nice guy.
This class is an easy A. The exams are exactly like the quizzes. There is one short paper and one quiz each week. Would highly recommend
Very easy class. Dennis Duke is very nice and Clear with instructions. only 3 exams. short essay and online quiz due every week.
If you need to fulfill your lab requirement I highly recommend taking it with this class. Lab is not difficult at all. Overall the class was very easy. Should attend class due to iclicker questions but otherwise, don't have to pay attention. 3 tests total with assignments due every week (easy). The tests have quizlets that are exact. Very easy clas
This class is so easy. I only had him one day a week and I only showed up for attendance credit. You have a short essay (you literally choose the word count yourself) and a short quiz (all answers on quizlet) each week but those are easy points. And his tests literally are the quiz questions word for word and they have quizlets too.
Wasn't super difficult to pass the class but it was a lot more work than people made it out to seem. We had to write a paper every weekend and take a quiz to go along with it. He claims the papers need to be 1-2,000 words but I only wrote about 400 each week and got a B. Lectures didn't really cover what was on the tests but the weekly quizzes did.
Once a week class where attendance is good part of grade. Each class a paper (written response question marize news article)&quiz is due. I got As on his tests (final is third test-not cumulative)-his tests are EXACTLY the questions from the back of each chapter (quizlet). Advice: make quizlet while taking quizright answers to study for tests
Dennis Duke Physics 2. Hes not the kind of professor that communicates with you. Just expects for you to do it. His office hours is not the greatest. Ive been to many other classes with great professors great office hours lots of communication very helpful. But this is not the case with this class. Disappointed.
Dr. Duke is an awful physics professor. The whole summer semester, he never even worked a problem out on board. Not only that but the tests, which were 75% of the final grade, were weekly multiple choice question tests with ten answers per question. No partial credit for slight miscalculations or shown work, just right or wrong. Awful experience.
Horrible class! I am generally a student who can get the teacher to work with me if I am struggling; however, this professor was not willing. Never answers questions and refuses to give partial credit on his mini exams worth 75% of our grade and were multiple choice. His lectures were useless. The only reason I passed was clutch. DO NOT TAKE!!
Took this class remotely through zoom. Just join the zoom to answer the iclicker questions, no need to pay attention as the weekly quizzes (and the 3 tests) are taken directly from the end of each chapter in the textbook. Short weekly essays graded by TAs, I usually wrote 400-500 words total.
Took the class through zoom and it wasn't bad at all. Duke makes you answer iclicker questions throughout the zoom meeting once a week so you have to be in class but its super easy. One essay question (350 words or so) each week and a quiz each week. 2 tests pulled from the quizzes so make a Quizlet and memorize. Overall, fun and easy class!
TAKE THIS CLASS!! You don't really have to come to the lectures, this literally the entire class: One quiz a week on Canvas and one essay that looks like it's graded on participation. The essay, you do on a topic of each chapter and then you pick one article to do. Like 200-300 words is enough for each. Best class I've taken so far.
It was a good and easy class. The teacher is not very helpful if you are having trouble understanding but a lot of the information was online and easy to find. Simple quizzes and these weekly essay assignments that were annoying but fine once you did them. Take if you need an easy class.
Easiest class Ive ever taken, I didnt go to class ever and never bought the book, you do 1 quiz online and one paper a week. The paper is about 1 page long and the information is on google. 3 exams online and non-honor lock. If you need a science credit this is the one.
His lectures don't apply to the assignments because to get the full story you need to read the textbook. Even then, reading the textbook isn't easy and its very hard to match up what you learn in the textbook to what the quizzes cover.
The class consists of a quiz and a mini-essay due every week, but all the information is found in the textbook. I went to class a few times, but the mic was weird and hard to hear him in so I ended up just reading the book instead. All you're tested on is online/ in the text book. TA's don't give feedback and just score though which sucks
Never went to class once (attendance not mandatory), got an A. Didn't bother buying the textbook, either. Very easy class, but beware, there are 'essays' (about half a page) once a week which can be very annoying to have to do. I can't speak much to Duke but the few readings that I did were actually very interesting, and I did enjoy the course.
Duke Dennis fanum taxed me but he wasn't skibidi enough to rizz up baby gronk, rather he got mogged by kai cenat
Easy class with weekly quizzes and essays. Lectures can be skipped, but the textbook is helpful. Unstuck AI was a lifesaver for preparing the quizzes.
