This was his first semester teaching at UCF and I took his Honors Statics course. Three exams, quizzes, and one hw assignment per chapter. He encouraged you to buy a cheap version of the textbook and just copy the hw problems from the newest addition from a classmate or from the library. Nice and extremely fair grader.

Throughout the year I maintained a B average and I thought I aced the Final to receive an A in the class. I somehow ended up with a C overall. I emailed Dr. Filler and his TA. The TA said she couldn't help me and Dr. Filler never replied to my emails. The class was large and it felt like he gave random grades out to just be done.

Dr. Filler is a nice guy but an awful professor. He spent half of the semester talking about the project and the other half reading his notes. He is useless if you have any questions about the hw because he doesn't know how to solve them either.

I really liked Dr. Filler. Coming from Alaska, I don't think he was used to teaching such a big class, but he did ok. He's super nice, and he gave us so many chances to redeem ourselves and pick up points without really being a pushover. If you do the HW and listen, you'll get an A. I slacked and still got a B. Love this guy. No accent either!

REAL REVIEW: Had him for fluids. Presents the information well however can be a little stubborn. I recommend him for fluids because I heard the other professors are harder. His tests are pretty fair. He has good handouts that supplement the course material. You will need to do your hw and study to do well but I recommend him over other teachers

Dr. Filler is a really good professor but he's kind of a jerk. The course project is ridiculous and he grades it extremely hard. Dr. Filler was a really nice guy and his lectures were on point. Homework TA's study guide was usually helpful for the test unless he did to you what he did to us. So I took Dr. Filler for Statics. I wouldn't say he's an awful teacher, but he could be much better. Be aware there is a huge gap between the material covered in class and the material on the tests. . Forces you to learn how to learn. Find study materials outside of just what he gives you. This will probably be the first engineering class for most of you and it's not easy so don't expect it to be. Exams are straight forward and do the Assessment Exercises! Do lot's of practice problems wherever you can find them. Tip: Jeff Hanson :)

Worst professor ever. He just reads from the notes he already gives to students. He is not comfortable when asked questions out of class. He doesn't do enough problems and expects the students to join study groups and learn if the material is not clear. Worst professor ever.

I have taken Dr. Filler for statics and fluids and can easily say that he is the best professor I have taken. If you want to learn the material and be good at it he is the one to take. Although, I got only C's in his classes. If you pass him with any grade, you will most likely be good at the material. Be aware, that his tests are very hard.

I have never done a rate my professor review in my life, but with this professor I felt the need to save some people from taking him. I took him for Statics on spring 22. He expected you to use "early intuition" and would skip explaining. EXAMS ARE WORTH 90% OF THE GRADE. If for ANY reason you have a bad day be prepared to fail.

Theres alot of hate around Dr.Filler but the truth is, if you do the few assignments throughout the semester and practice a bit, his exams are relatively easy. Lectures aren't super great prep for exams but they are more focused on real world problems whereas test are more textbook based. Extra credit prob on every exam and very generous on partial

I hate that just four exams were the only thing for this class. He drops one exam from your choice. He is considerable with grading the exams. Get as much practice as you can using the book, assessment exercises, YouTube videos as his test problems are not exactly what he shows in class. Be sure to really understand the concepts and you'll do good.

Course consists of 4 exams, but lowest grade gets dropped. Professor is very caring and wants you to learn. The course and exams can be very challenging and tricky. Lectures do help for understanding concepts and free response. Exams require thorough understanding of the concepts and equations. I recommend him, but be ready to work for your grade,

A good teacher, not a very nice person. Tests were fair and so was his grading. Felt uncomfortable talking in class because if you said anything wrong you basically got yelled at. If you want a fair class and want to learn take him, but prepare to potentially get degraded.

Genuinely cares about his students, heavily pushes making good "future engineers". Very few grades in the course, practice & SI! Not a huge expanse of material in the course and it entirely builds upon itself so don't get behind. But Filler preps you well. Asking questions in class can be intimidating if you're clueless because he asks followup Q's

BEWARE 90% of your grade will be solely exams. To prep for these exams, use the textbook over TopHat and go to SI tutoring. Filler is a nice individual but this class was no joke.

Nice guy that cares about the course and getting students interested in the field. However, his catchphrase "think deep" does a lot of heavy lifting when assessments and exams cover material unmentioned in lectures and absent from the textbook. No level of deep thinking can just conjure up equations. Can't avoid his classes as a civil major though.

It's not an easy course, but Dr. Filler will make sure you walk away feeling smarter than ever. He's a very nice and caring professor that gives open note tests and encourages using your instincts. You'll need to do studies in groups if you want to do well, but that's just the way engineering works.

This professor had a vendetta against me because I refused to do any of his "assessment exercises" which didnt count for any credit. He took of -15 points on an exam because I didnt use the whole vertical scale. We had to create our own numerical scale and I didnt use the whole box he provided. There was no specific instructions. Worst prof ever!!!

Filler wants you to know the concept in and out like you're doing the one teaching, because that to him "makes you a better engineer" His lectures are if you already got the concept and want to talk about it in discussion, not for learning the material from scratch but if you catch on quick, be my guest. Youtube videos = a higher statics grade.

At some point he stopped working through examples and properly teaching them. He now goes over relatively complex equations and concepts by showing a pre-worked example, skimming over it, then forcing students to stay after class to take pictures of the examples (because he refuses to post anything useful). If you have class/work after, good luck!

AWFUL. Lectures are horrid. He has worked out problems and just reads through a PowerPoint. Only 3 exams which are 100% of your grade. Curveball on every test. He claims that assessment exercises are 10% of your grade and they can "only help" but does not put them in the gradebook so do not even waste your time. I got a 69.7% and did not pass.

DO NOT TAKE HIM FOR STATICS. Failed most of the class this semester, 3 tests, 30% each. He is very condescending and rude to students who ask questions. Lectures are useless, he puts up a pre solved problem and asks "do you see it?". Literally any other statics professor is better. Assessment exercises are useless and did not help my grade.

Filler knows what he's teaching, but he is really strict when it comes to grading. Even though I earned a D in his class, I still came out of it learning a lot and I wish that I could retake the class with him for this upcoming semester, because the way he teaches makes sense. His grading is just wack.

Professor Filler's lectures were reasonably engaging, but he often repeated himself. He assigned lots of homework and in-class exercises, which he eventually handed back, but only entered the midterm and final into Canvas. Overall, he is an alright lecturer, but someone else should handle the grading and structure of the course.

professor filler is an alright guy and a decent lecturer, but he teaches this class from the stone age it seems. Exams follow lectures and provided problems pretty closely & you get to bring however much material you want on a cheat sheet. He's a bit combative and at times has an interesting attitude. Filler was overall a pretty good professor. He provided us with guided notes for every chapter and posted questions from the textbook in canvas so we didnt have to buy the book ourselves. Tests were 90% of the grade and were usually pretty similar to textbook problems. some people found them difficult but if you put in the time it was not bad.

This professor doesn't post official grades in Webcourses, making it a mystery until final grades are submitted to the university. He grades very harshly and unfairly, like marking multiple-choice questions wrong if he thinks you guessed, even though you got the problem right. He's an ok lecturer, but someone else needs to do testing and grading.
