he is very helpful, and takes time to go over things with you more then once. Should def take him for chemistry. Tests are hard but if you study his notes you will do fine.
Great professor, really seems to care about his students. Attendance not mandatory, but quizes are given unannounced. Hard subject, good teacher.
Doesnt use webassign, instead u hve prblm sets. Very helpful.
The class is very hard and he doesn't do a great job of explaining things. Instead he thinks you should be able to figure it out on your own.
Dr. Fulmer is definitely one of the better professors to take for CHEM111. As previously mentioned, he doesn't use WebAssign, which is great! Problem sets are somewhat difficult, but this is intentional, as completing them will help you when it comes to exam time. Very clear of his expectations and very accessible during office hours.
This class was hard for me, but Fulmer was always willing to help. He told us every day to come by during office hours for extra help. The problem sets were pretty hard, but helped in the long run. His lectures were easy to follow. I did have to study quite a bit just because the material was difficult.
The class is hard, but if you study and do the chapter reviews in the textbook it makes it a lot easier to do good on the tests. He's a helpful guy if you ask for it. The class moves fast because there is a lot of material to cover. Just talking to him he's a really cool guy.
I had Dr. Fulmer for Chem 111 lab, and also have him this semester for 112 lab. He is very picky about his lab reports, but is okay during lab.
Very helpful.
Chemistry has always been hard for me. I can't say Dr Fulmer was extraordinary but, I earned a B!
Dr. Fulmer is extremely hard. His quizzes so far are pretty easy and simple, but I'm sure they will get worse. The class is very fast paced and it's important to stay on top of things. He isn't necessarily availiable a lot of the time, but our class has about 86 student's in it. Also, make sure to do the assigned problems in the back of your book.
Fulmer is a nice down to earth guy. He will talk to you about anything you don't understand and encourages you to ask. He has open office hours which is good. He can be a little disorganized at times. There's a quiz once a week so keep on track. It's a chemistry class so of course it's not going to be a piece of cake. I enjoyed him as a professor.
Great class, hot professor.
Really great professor. He is more than willing to help outside of class with things you do not understand. Be sure to keep up with the weekly quizzes and go to the review sessions. Going to class everyday is pretty much a must to get a good grade.
Make sure you come to class! Dr. Fulmer has at least one quiz a week and quizzes can't be made up. However sometimes his quizzes are simply attendance so it's very important to be there everyday.
Very cool guy just not a very good professor. Super nice and can be helpful to some. Very strict and knit picky on grading. Make sure anything and everything is perfect. Contradicts himself a lot. When reviewing for ACS final he often didn't do the problems correctly. Tests are rough the class average on the last two were 54%.
He is very unclear and seems to not care about the class at all. We haven't gotten anything back and its already midterm. He's a cool sarcastic guy, just not a good professor.
WORST TEACHER I HAVE EVER HAD
Fulmer acts like chemistry knowledge is currency, and he doesn''t want to spend one cent. Bad, bad teacher.
Worst teacher I've ever had and I'm a senior.
Without a doubt the hardest class I've taken to date. Definitely would not recommend.
Avoid if possible. Very disorganized, no reading schedule or test schedule, he just tells you in class a few days before. Reading the book is absolutely necessary because he leaves a lot out of lectures and expects you to know it. If you go see him for help he does try, it's not always helpful, but at least gives you an idea what to expect on test.
If you don't use the online problem sets, you will not pass the quizzes or exams.
He's super picky about grading; he'll take off for just about anything.
Was rude and sarcastic and often got off topic easily. Has pop quizzes a lot, often does problems wrong while midway through explaining them, tests are very hard, often isn't organized, and the main thing I learned from him is "sometimes I'm moody because I have insomnia". VERY picky grader.
Let me start off by saying that chemistry it's self is a difficult class. I understand that a lot of people struggle with it, but don't take this professor. First of all, his lectures are very long. And if you ask a question, he makes it seem as if you aren't smart. He's sometimes there to help, but don't expect much.
Very tough class, worst professor I've had
Easily distracted and rude. Works problems wrong when showing you how to do them. Worst prof I've ever had.
Bad attitude and disorganized. Lots of pop quizzes. Worst teacher I've had.
If you care about your GPA and actually learning anything, don't take fulmer.
Works problems wrong isn't clear rude I'll drop out before I take him again.
He's pretty laid back and very straightforward when helping you with lab work. He's not one to sugar-coat but I believe that's what makes him such a good professor. Just do your work to the best of your ability and this lab is a breeze.
Makes no sense at all and talks to you like you're stupid if you ask him questions. Works problems wrong and doesn't remember what he was going over the class before. Really disorganized and you won't learn anything from him.
Unless you already know how to do chemistry and you're really good at it, don't take him or you'll fail. Worst professor I've ever had.
Rude and condescending. He'll either catch himself working a problem wrong halfway through and mess everything up or a student will catch it because he has no idea what he's doing most of the time. Extremely disorganized. Your only hope for doing well unless you're a chemistry genius is your lab grade.
I learned everything he taught- which is nothing.
I don't think he even knew where he was most of the time. He always confused our 8AM class with his 10AM. Not a very good teacher.
The only reason to show up to class would be to get an idea of what tests are over so you can take them to a tutor. Otherwise, there's no point in going because you're going to learn nothing and he usually holds you over the time class is supposed to end.
Wasn't a huge fan of him. His assignments weren't outrageous or anything and the material wasn't bad, but I really didn't like his teaching style. He has a very matter-of-fact tone when answering questions (almost as if every question asked has a blatantly obvious answer that students are just too dim to get).
Very Condescending. Would get angry at students if they pointed out a mistake he made during a problem, which happened way more than it should have. He would come into the room in a terrible mood and slam his things around, making the entire class uncomfortable. AVOID him if possible.
There is a quiz once every week, so that can help you or hurt you. Do the study guides and questions from the book, he will use those problems on the exams. Sometimes has the tendency to make you feel dumb depending on the question you ask. Makes morbid jokes during class that are funny but sad. Hands back exams fairly quickly. Willing to help.
A professor who can teach well, but confusing at times. I've noticed how sarcastic he can become when asking him questions as if he thinks you're an idiot for not understanding something. I would still recommend him compared to what I've heard of other chemistry professors - he grades using partial credit and quizzes each week are easy points!
Very monotone and not nice at all when accessed outside of class. Material wasn't taught well and I wouldn't have passed if it wasn't for high school chemistry class.
Good professor. Chemistry first of all is a hard class, its math in a foreign language basically. If I could choose any professor for chemistry it would be Fulmer. Good lecturer and the grading scale isn't bad either. Definately my 1st pic for Chemistry!
He's not horrible. Beware of pop quizzes in class - they will either help your grade or not. So, study up. You do need to go to tutoring for this course in order to fully understand how to do the chemistry problems. This is not a class to skip or to put on the back burner, it requires lots of hard work on your end.
His grading scale is amazing, he does detailed notes along with the class. Responds to emails fast, even helps if you arent in his chem lab, hes seriously one of the best professors ever.
I had Fulmer for CHEM101 and it was definitely challenging. The quizzes he gives in class can either make or break your grade so make sure to take them seriously and show up for class, he will sometimes give a bonus point for being there. I would recommend finding a tutor or a study group to make the material easier to understand. Good Luck!
Dr. Fulmer taught the material differently than my lecture professor, but other than that he was a decent educator. Just go weekly through the lab manual and get the pre labs done and you will easily pass the lab. Fulmer can be "snide" sometimes and make rude comments though so watch for that.
Professor Fulmer wasn't a bad option to take for Chem112. His problem sets do a good job of preparing students for his exams, and his exams aren't too hard. His lectures were less boring than other chemistry professors I have taken. Overall, I would recommend him to someone wondering which chem professor to take.
Chemistry isnt easy but overall I enjoyed his class and would recommend him over other chem 101 professors
Very easy going professor. The content can be difficult but he does a good job of explaining it. He was always so helpful when I went to his office (which was often). Tests and quizzes make up the class. Offers extra credit on all tests. Would take again.
He comes in sometimes and gets super pissy if the projector doesn't work right or he generally comes in in a bad mood. He gives us "notes" on the board which is just him writing examples of everything and not really explaining it. He jumps all over the place, tells us to write it down then says we won't use it on the test. Doesn't teach well.
If taking chem you definitely need to be there. Tons of information but reasonable. Study outside of class!
A difficult professor but is always available for help outside of class if needed. He's very intelligent and knows what he's talking about. Attend every class, take diligent notes, and pay attention.
Best professor Ive had for a gen ed class. Wonderful teacher and hes great at explaining concepts so you understand them and dont have to memorize as much. He has a lot of test so you have a lot of opportunity to raise your grade if you had one bad day. Would definitely take another class with him.
Fulmer can be rude and degrading at times. Take the quizzes seriously. You'll probably need to do some reading in order to teach yourself things if you're confused since he isn't always thorough in lectures. Always take advantage of any practice problems he posts, sometimes he uses them on exams.
Best chemistry professor at MSU! Willing to help, works out everything on the board. Would definitely take him again! Lots of unannounced quizzes. Makes you work for your grade, but teaches everything you need to know. Amazing professor.
His first two tests were not that hard. His last two tests were weighted higher and those exams included material that he did not cover. When students from the class asked for help, he didn't even try and only made you feel like a complete idiot. Buy a work book for the ACS, because he isn't going to prepare you well enough. Do the problem sets!!
Easily one of the worst professors I have ever had. Nothing he explains in lecture makes any sense. He will mess up an entire example problem, then not go back and explain. Says you can come to his office, but will just make you feel dumb when you go to him with questions.
Fulmer can be sarcastic and sometimes mean, however, I think he's the best chem professor. Take the quizzes seriously for sure. You will have to work for a good grade, but it isn't impossible. I use the book for practice problems and going over things that he didn't explain well. He offers outside help but isn't very helpful.
There is a quiz almost every week. He is a sarcastic person and fun to be around. He trips up on his work a lot but if you are paying attention you can catch it. He gives problem sets for each topic and doing them will help a lot with exams. He gives partial credit. He also usually gives extra credit on exams.
I love Dr. Fulmer as a person, he is really funny and down to earth. He is a good professor for this class but his exams are pretty difficult and he is a tough grader. If you put in the work you will pass but do not take expecting an easy A. Provides lots of example problems
If you do not have time to teach yourself or have a good guessing system, do not take Professor Fulmer. His lectures and exams do not match up, he does not explain things very well, and he does not respond to emails. 10/10 would not recommend.
Fulmer is typically very nice and willing to explain things if you do not understand, during his lectures he will provide you with a lot of information in a very short time, this can sometimes become confusing, chem is a hard class, he does a good job making it understandable. He does grade harshly but also provides extra credit.
If I was just rating his lectures, 5 wouldn't be high enough. I was giddy to wake up at 7:30 and watch his lectures. You are going to learn in this class weather you like it or not. My only problem is that the content on his exams didn't always reflect the content in his lectures which made studying very difficult. Still an excellent professor.
Fulmer is a great person, super funny and kind, but at times he can be a bit condescending. If you are responsible enough to study and work for your grade, then Fulmer is your guy, but if you tend to rely on professors then he may not be the best choice.
Works problems wrong in class, gets off topic, is rude, and doesnt explain things well at all. Unhelpful and condescending if you ask for help or go to his office.
Dr. Fulmer is a nice guy and is very intelligent, but to me he is not the best at teaching. There are no study guides and in lecture there is little to no practice problems. You will mostly be graded on exams and only a few quizzes. The exams are hard!
Dr. Fulmer is a good professor, he explains things very throughly in his lectures, but also moves very fast so its vital to pay attention. Unfortunately for Fulmer many people rate him poorly because chem is a difficult class that requires a lot of effort outside of class, and when students fail to do this and do poorly in the class they blame him
Fulmer is an odd person, and he is very sarcastic during lecture. You will need to study for his exams in order to do well, but you must get used to studying hard anyways if you want to do well and continue in chemistry. He is not good at answering emails. His practice problem sets are similar to his exam questions, and the textbook helped.
I have incredibly mixed feelings about Dr. Fulmer. He is a wonderful person and really cares about his students but you have to go out of your way to figure that out. I think he is terrible at lecturing, if you are behind you just need to go to office hours (take his practice questions from his book). He is also intimidating so it's hard to do that
Dr. Fulmer is most certainly a difficult professor to "rate". I think he tries to care for student success, but especially with this class being online this semester, he has a difficult time doing that. You will need to study, and by study actually learn the material. Like most Chem classes I suffered through, but in the end it turned out ok.
Fulmer is someone who should not be a teacher. He gives a quiz almost every single class, and an exam pretty much every 3 weeks. This would be fine if he knew how to teach. He gives no review material, says things will be on the exam when they're not, and put things that we haven't even learned. Dont ask for help bc he's condescending and rude.
I spent my entire semester dedicated to Chemistry. Fulmer was of no assistance anytime that I had a question. If you are prepared to teach yourself an entire course, take this professor. He is absolutely atrocious. He will only answer your questions if you are female and go to see him outside of class. Do yourself a favor and take ANYONE else.
If you think you like chemistry, Professor Fulmer might just change your mind. He doesn't grade anything except exams and quizzes (which are basically given on the daily), lectures at breakneck speed with few examples, and is incredibly condescending towards those students brave enough to ask questions. Be prepared to teach yourself.
Dr. Fulmer is funny and very likable in my opinion… this doesn’t take away from his terrible teaching. He is brilliant and witty. Fun to be around. His lack of care and not being prepared is so damaging to his students. The least caring and underprepared professor I’ve ever had. He never has a plan for anything and a little condescending..
Dr. Fulmer is a great guy and very knowledgeable, but he can come off as a little rude. Sometimes you'll ask him a question and he'll make you feel stupid. However, he gives quizzes often and his problem sets are super helpful! His exams are basically the same as his problem sets. I thought he was pretty goofy and I like how he teaches. :)
Just dont. Trust me dont.
I had Fulmer for lab, he seemed pretty nice in lab but all he would do is simply explain what we were doing then let us do it we had to ask each other questions because he didn't pay much attention to us. he also took forever to put in grades and I still don't truly even know what I got in his lab class.lab overall was pretty fun but it can be hard
Professor Fulmer is the worst professor on campus. He is extremely hard to access outside of class if you have questions, he does not explain concepts well in lecture, and overall he's rude. The only grades you get are exams and quizzes, so if you're not a good test taker, it's hard to do well in this class. Take any other chem professor except him
Expect to be graded only by quizzes given almost every week in class and exams that almost always has one question that is impossible. Good luck accessing him outside of class as his door was closed half the time during his office hours. When he was there, be prepared to feel like the stupidest human alive. Has a very . . . unique personality.
Be ready to teach yourself. He is great when needing help- easy to get in contact with but during lecture he will give you the answer with little to no explanation.
Very cool guy and tells you exactly what to do during lab. Easy going and personable.
His lectures and practice problem sets always have all the necessary information to succeed on exams. He gives partial credit on exams and always has bonus questions. I think he gets a bad rating because many people refuse to put in the study time to succeed in a difficult class like CHEM 112 and blame the professor for their idiocy.
He's a pretty easy grader, but he can be very condescending and harsh to students. He often makes mistakes and gets mad at the class for doing it wrong even though he told them how to do it wrong.
He works through notes with the class in the white board or chalkboard, which gives you plenty of time to take notes. He gives informational handouts and explains toughly how to use the resources provided. Gives very good study guides and prepares you for exams if you put in the work and study time needed.
He always sounds snarky and like he is annoyed to answer anyone's questions.
If you're a slow writer may be hard to get everything down before erased Audio record lectures, he will say important things while you write and you'll miss it Pop quizzes at least once a week No homework but optional practice problem sets - DO THEM Partial credit on exams for writing down equations etc Points he takes off on exams can be random
I had Fulmer for both 111 and 112 and can safely say he's a good professor. He can be condescending when asked for help but regardless he will still help you. Plenty of bonus points on exams and quizzes. He also teaches content in a very clear manner and his problem sets are amazing. Do those and you'll be fine.
Fulmer is a good professor and even better lecture instructor. HOWEVER, you need to do the problem sets and read the book otherwise the material will not make sense. There is one quiz a week usually unannounced, tests are graded fine w/ plenty of extra credit opportunities. All in all, he's a fine professor.
Can be very condescending when asked questions. If you have him for lab he's very nit-picky with his lab reports and the exams taken in class do not prepare you completely for the final exam. There are many quizzes, usually at least once a week, and if you don't do the practice problems he gives, you will not pass.
What a waste. He is an amazing presenter and explains topics clearly; his lectures are genuinely fun. But his exams feel intentionally difficult for no reason. No practice, surprise quizzes, harder tests than taught, then disappointment when most of the class fails. It feels antagonistic, especially given how easily he could help students succeed.
