Dennis Gervin was the best professor I have ever had!! His labs are extremely fun and he makes lecture fun also. I'm not the strongest at science but he offered some extra credit. He also offered review sessions before exams. If you have to take Biology 111 take it with him! You won't regret it!

I love Dennis Gervin! He is a great professor, I loved every minute of his class. He's very passionate about biology. Study, go to lab, ask questions, and you will do well in his class. Work hard, it will pay off! Also, he's very easy on the eyes which is a huge plus. Very handsome man.

This guy is like the Fonz, but looks like Walter White. He really was probably one of the better teachers I've had at MJC. I didn't once open my book or take a any notes. Go to class and listen to his lectures and you can walk out of there with an A. 1 test or quiz a week and 1-2 lab assignments a week.

Amazing Teacher! Great powerpoints and lecture. Very active and funny throughout the class. I hate biology but he made it worth listening to. He will drop your lowest test, quiz, and assignment score which really helps if your taking 15 units. Very responsive, helpful, and makes sure students are on track. I found his class interesting and easy!!!!

I have never had a teacher that was so clear and tells you what you need to pass. He is always trying to push you just a little bit farther. He never puts you down. Great Teacher.

Its definitely not an easy A class, you have to work for your grade. There are 3 exams and one final. Several lecture and lab quizzes. Study his powerpoint lectures and you will do fine! He drops the lowest score you get from your quizzes, exams, and lab activities. No book is needed. He also give extra credit! Good professor, ver helpful!

Gervdog millionaire is a really a great teacher. He's very thorough and spunky, quiz's are just like tests. Labs are easy and fun.

He is an AWESOME person. His lectures take up the whole lecture and he goes kinda fast which made it hard for me to understand but he DOES have his power notes online which was cool. Super upbeat, never really boring. Very involved. Ask, and he will help. Labs are always fun. I would definitely take his class again.

Professior Gervin is a great teaher. make sure to go to lectures and you should have no problem passing the class as long as you study. There are quizzes every week which is good so you know exactly whats on the exam. passed with an A and it was my third time taking the course. if you need help just ask he is more then willing to help.

Prof. Gervin has a passion for teaching, making this class enjoyable! There is a lot of work between lecturelab. As long as you go to class and stay on top of the work, you will have no problem getting an "A". His lecture slides are posted online after each class and all the information from there is exactly what is on the tests.

As long as you attend the classes and stay on top of you class work you should have no problem getting an A in the class. Definitely one of favorite professors so far, Bummed I won't have him again.

I took Professor Gervin during a summer semester so the class went at a faster pace. Lectures were pretty long and covered a lot of material but he posted all power points online. Lecture test were difficult but if you do good in lab it balances out. On 1st day he gives you a break down of how he'll grade. Drops your two lowest quiz scores.

One of the best professors I have come across over the past 25 years. Knows his material inside out and is very passionate about teaching. Not many professors have the natural talent to teach. He gives you all the material to pass a test but expects you to think beyond what is being taught to fully understand the whole concept being taught.

If you show up for class and study the lectures notes he puts up online before quizzes & tests, you will definitely pass his class! His lectures could be long sometimes but he is a very helpful professor when it comes to talking to him one-on-one after class for help and/or clarity on anything.

Great class. He really wants everyone to do well. There is no homework at all except a few take home quizzes. I personally would have probably benefited from a little bit of homework (nothing too crazy) because I am not one to just sit and read a text book.

Professor Gervin was a great instuctor. I suck at biology but I acually passed &learned something. He assigns makeup work to help improve ur grade. Do them!! It's an easy 20pts. Great Professor made the class easy. I wasn't trying very hard but still got a B in the class Does give quizzes every week but the weren't hard. Exams are a little bit harder than the quizzes ,but if you study the quizzes your good to go. Labs aren't very hard either really you should be able to finish in class.

Honestly one of the best professors at MJC. He teaches in a way that makes biology so easy to grasp. I was super nervous about this class because I'm bad with science but he is very eager to teach, help and work with you. He lets you drop your lowest exam, quiz and lab. Im not the greatest in science at all but I enjoy the lab portion a lot. We get a quiz every week and to be honest I failed all but 2 and I have failed the last 3 exams and still have an 83% I have done all the labs and got A's and B's on them so my grade is staying the same. I would recommend him for sure.

Exams come straight from lectures. I never used the book. He loves what he teaches and it shows. He simplifies the lecture to help you understand. He doesn't believe in "busy work." To put it simply, he really truly does care for his students, learning all the names of the people in class. If you ask for help, he is there for you. He wants you to pass, so he tries to make things as simple and easiest to grasp onto.

I highly recommend taking Biology 111 with Gervin! The lectures are long, but pay attention and you will have no need for the book. There really isn't any homework, which helps because it gives you time to review and study for the quizzes and exams. He is super helpful with labs and really wants everyone to understand the material.

One of the best classes I have taken so far. The morning lectures were kind of a drag sometimes but it really does help. Dr. Gervin really does care for his students and as he says the first day of class you can get the grade you really want. He's very approachable and friendly if you need help with anything. Looking forward to take 101 with him!

If you want an easy A, don't miss class. Also, pay attention in lectures. He does say he doesn't trick you but things on the quizzes are things that he said but did not include in the slides. The lab assignments are SO boring. I was really hoping for some more hands-on learning. Instead its being talked to like a 5 yr old. Way over explained.

Probably the best science teacher I've ever had. I feel as though I learned more from him than I ever did in high school. Explains everything super well and makes it easy to understand. By far the best professor at MJC. He cares about his students,and does everything possible to make his students pass. I took him during the summer so it was lecture heavy. He is a great, caring professor. If you have a question, he will truly do his best to get you the most in depth answer so you really understand it. My only issue was his grading criteria. He doesn't have a set answer key for his tests or quizzes. So you have to really know what you're talking about and get it 100% correct to get the answers right.

Mr. Gervin's labs are fun , completely go with the material in his lecture. very approachable and cares about his students success. Due to work, I was forced to take his summer accelerated course. He is by far the best teacher I've had in a while. His labs were what we were learning in lecture so it all made sense. I was working full time and taking 15 credits during this class yet he was so awesome that I actually enjoyed coming to class. Very understanding. GREAT TEACHER!!!!!

Attendance isn't mandatory, but if you miss a lab it'll cost you at least 20 points so don't miss those! Gervin is the best professor Ive had at mjc. He cares and makes sure his students understand the material, he takes time to go over everything. He is huge on preparing students for the set up of quizzes and exams. My favorite line of his is Ill never understand how teachers go over material and write tests on something entirely different

I took many science courses at a UC level school and not a single professor could compare to how well Professor Gervin is able to convey difficult information. Honestly the best professor Ive ever had in my college career. Lectures are inherently boring, but he somehow manages to make them interesting and funny throughout. His grading criteria is perfect and he is one of the most down to earth and forgiving professors I know. 10/10 couldnt recommend anyone more.

Professor Gervin, is a caring professor, he cares about his students and wants them to pass his class, he will do whatever he can to make sure you are understanding his class. He gives quizzes about every week, uploads all of his notes on his website. Test are easy & showing up to lab is important. Would definitely recommend professor Gervin 10/10

Love Professor Gervin!! He cares about all of his students and wants all of them to pass. Tests are super easy, just have to study the questions on the quizzes. I would absolutely take another class from him.

I loved having Gervin for 101, hes so interested in what hes teaching and its very apparent and makes the lectures for engaging and fun to listen to, I would highly recommend him to anyone looking to take bio 101, especially if you dont feel confident because he is very easy going and wants to make sure you learn

I took Gervin a while back but the more biology classes I take the more I realize what an amazing professor Gervin is. He will give you a great foundation for further studies in biology. You do need to work hard but thats with all biologycourses.

Dr Gervin helps students learn, understand, remember and get the best grades. You don't need the book because his lecture slides are very thorough. But having it did help me sometimes because outside of class, the lecture slides felt dry at times.

Professor Gervin is a great professor who cares for his students and is very personable. He really cares about what he teaches and has a passion for his work. He really wants his students to not only pass the class, but to learn about the subject and genuinely enjoy it. I would definitely take from him again!

Theres one quiz a week. If you dont show up youll miss out on a lot and it will hurt your grade. Hes super cool and gives you the tools to succeed. Great prof!

Great Professor to take Bio 111 with. Grading concept was very easy and straight forward. Theres about 10 quizzes throughout the semester. Students can find the quizzes hard since there is a lot to read from and what one might remember might not be on the quiz. The exams are more easier because you basically study off the quizzes.

I took Professor Gervin for bio lol and I really enjoyed taking the course with him. Definetely the best biology professor I have had by far. Best part is that he is always excited to teach and is also passionate about. Show up to class and turn in all of the homework, study as hard as you can and you will be fine.

Gervin was a great teacher for biology! He really makes sense of things in his lecture & is great about repetition to help you learn. The labs are interactive, but easy points to boost your grade. Lots of quizzes, but it helps to make the exams easier. Class was easy to pass if you just pay attention & always show up. definitely recommend

Professor Gervin is a gem. I never use the book. I took good notes from the class and it was the only thing I needed in the quizzes/exams. There were many quizzes after one/two chapters. which made me know the content. the final was pretty easy, were questions from quizzes that we did before. I learned a lot!

By far one of the best professors I've ever taken! Attendance to lecture isn't required, but his lectures are very helpful. He has weekly quizzes (STUDY THE LECTURE SLIDES!!), weekly lab worksheets, and his exams (4 + final) are 90% based off quizzes. The final's solely based off exams! ASK QUESTIONS he is approachable and more than willing to help

The exams are based off the quizzes and the quizzes are based of the reading and slides. Focused on the bold phrases on the lectures and read further in detail with the textbook. The labs are easy to follow if you are prepared and ask questions because Professor Gervin is very approachable. Go to his office hours for any questions.

Hes awesome! Key to this class is the quizzes!! Do well on the quizzes and save the quizzes because the tests questions from the quiz. Everything on the quiz and tests are from his notes. His notes are really good so there is really no need to get the book. Hes a great teacher 10/10 recommend him!

He tries his best to keep lectures interesting, but to little avail. There's a lot of work for this class, but his grading system is very very very forgiving. He's happy to work with you need help. He really wants students to succeed.

Amazing teacher! He is always willing to help you and explain anything you dont understand. I definitely recommend him. Lectures classes are optional, but I recommend going because it helps with the weekly quizzes.

Professor Gervin made gets right to the point. At first I was skeptical because I was not doing well but then I talked to him and he did nothing but help. If you feel yourself struggling in his class definitely talk to him about your situation he wants his students to succeed. I 100% recommended professor Gervin for bio 111.

Best professor ever! I took his accelerated bio 111 class (a 5 week course, about 6 hours every Monday-Thursday) and I learned so much. His lectures are great, he cracks a lot of jokes, and grades very fairly. As long as you show up to class then your quizzes and exams will be a piece of cake. I hope to take him again for bio 101.

I took Bio 111 over the summer as an accelerated class. We took quizzes every day and exams every week but the lectures are great you don't even need the book. Don't worry about how fast he lectures he posts his lectures on his website. Professor Gervin makes the class fun and enjoyable. You have to try to fail this class in order to do so.

I took the summer course for Bio 111. He has quizzes everyday which force you to study but don't worry if you do bad on them. Every question you see on the quiz will be on the exams which made the exams very easy as you already know what type of questions to expect. He usually let us out early during lab which was pretty easy a well.

He is always happy to help whenever you ask for it and he really knows how to nail information in your head so you will succeed in his class. Hands down the best professor I have ever had.

Professor Gervin is amazing, so glad I took Bio with him. Lectures are pretty fast paced it can sometimes be hard to keep up if youre taking notes. But the great thing is that he uploads the lecture PDFs after ever class so if you miss something or cant make it to class the notes are always online. But dont skip lab! Attendance mandatory!

Not too difficult and great teacher. Quizzes are about once a week and exams every other week or so. The exams may seem difficult but they just require extra studying. The questions come from previous quizzes and lectures so you already have half the answers. He also drops the lowest exam and lowest lab grade! Lots of chances to bring up grade!

Gervin is such a good professor. He has taught for years and you can tell her is passionate about it. He is also super caring towards his students and wants them to succeed. The class is only difficult because its bio but if you study and do all the work you will get a good grade!

Professor Gervin is the best. He explains things in ways multiple people will understand. Your also able to pull him to the side and get one on one help if your embarrassed to ask infront of the class. I suck at Bio but still managed to get a good grade. Just study the quizzes for the exam and study all the exams for the final. & always go to lab!

Science classes are difficult for me but Gervin was so enthusiastic, he made the class enjoyable. Don't worry about writing down perfect notes during lecture, he will post his slides online. Make sure to attend EVERY lab & do the work. Keep quizzes to study for exams. I will never forget what SISTER CHROMATIDS are. Take his class he's a great prof!

gervins an amazing professor!! very chill dude, he knows its a very tough class so he gives many chances to boost your grade. he drops your lowest exams, 2 of your lowest quizzes, and you can make up a low lab grade. labs are worth more so make sure to show up to lab DONT SKIP LABS!!! he'll make sure to help you in labs if youre confused !

Professor Gervin was an awesome BIO professor! Before taking his class, I was awful with science. He is a clear cut professor, tells you exactly what you need to do and know, and is more than welcome to meet outside of class. There was a quiz every week. As long as you put in the work and study, you'll do fine.

Wow, I don't think I've had a Professor as great as Dr. Gervin. He truly wants to see his students succeed. Lectures are not mandatory but help A LOT with quizzes and tests. There are about 10 quizzes that really help your grade if you attend the lectures. He also keeps his website up to date which is really helpful. Highly, HIGHLY recommend!

Dr. Gervin is one of the best professors I have ever had. He makes online classes so easy. His lectures videos are GREAT! As long as you pay attention to those, you will do great in the class. Also, he responds to emails super fast. Even at midnight. Great guy overall!

Professor Gervin is one of the best professors I've had at MJC. He is a kind professor who pushes his students to succeed. There are a LOT of tests/quizzes. There is a lecture every day. But the information is solid and he makes the class fun! I highly, highly recommend.

Professor Gervin was super helpful and understanding when teaching online (because of the pandemic). As long as you take notes on the lectures and study those, you will be fine. If you have any concerns, he is understanding. Also, your lowest grade for your exams, quizzes is dropped, which is helpful. Labs were easy. I recommend.

Get ready because there are quizzes every week and sometimes on both lecture days. Make sure to study the topics, and come prepared to pass the quizzes!. However, he does drop your lowest score which is beneficial to some. Also, do the labs, they are worth so many points! Totally recommend him, he makes the class entertaining.

Study Study Study! Do the study guide and you will def pass the quizzes. The quiz questions are on the exams. The final is all questions you have already seen from previous exams. Weighs your grade off of the highest grade in the class which definitely helps. Webcam was kind of annoying but you end up actually learning. Great Professor!

Professor Gervin's course was pretty easy.

The class itself is pretty challenging because of the amount of information that is covered but he does a great job of making the studying enjoyable. I highly recommend watching all lectures, showing up for zoom, and doing your study guides even though they aren't graded. The only way you'll pass is by doing lot's of behind the scenes studying.

Makes sure everyone is understanding the material and teaches in a way that is easy to retain.

Very chill teacher, be prepared for the quizzes. He does at least let us know a few days before a quiz so make sure to study. Very funny, attendance is required. Just as long as you show up and pay attention you'll be okay.

Professor Gervin is a really great professor. I could tell that he was passionate about teaching biology and he actually cares about his students. His class is easy to understand as long as you study the material. It is not a difficult class, but you will need to put in some time and effort in order to get a good grade.

I've taken biology three times and by far, Professor Gervin is the best professor! His exams and quizzes can be a little tricky, but as long as you go to lecture and do the labs, you will pass. He also offers exam corrections and other opportunities to get your grade up as long as you try in the class and communicate with him.

Dr. Gervin is an amazing professor with amazing lectures and teaching skills. English is my second language, and I thought I was gonna struggle with Biology111 but no I didn't. This is a four units class with lab included so of course time to put in is required but besides that, professor Gervin is an amazing and caring teacher for his students!!!

Professor Gervin was by far the best professor I have had throughout my college career. His level of understanding and thoughtfulness for his students is off the charts. Through every hiccup and bump in the road I faced, professor Gervin was caring and willing to offer a hand where needed. I would 1000% recommended him as a professor 1000x over.

TAKE HIS CLASS!! Dr. Gervin is so passionate about Biology. There is a lot of information to take in, but just read the book and go over the notes at least once after lecture. His goal is for us to pass his class, and he will help you with that !

Absolutely phenomenal professor. Probably my favorite professor as of yet. He really tries his best to help every student succeed and understand the concepts. He went above and beyond and really cares for his students. If you pay attention to his lectures and study a little bit on your own time you will have no problem passing the class!

This professor is an amazing bio teacher. I was nervous about having bio because I was never that great at bio, but Professor Gervin made it easy to learn and understand. We had a textbook, but we hardly ever used it. He made presentations that he would share with us after we reviewed that topic/chapter. I highly recommend him.

He is a very understanding professor and his lectures are amazing as well as his labs. Sometimes he would let us take our quizzes home to do or work together to complete them. He made all the concepts easy to understand and the tests were not too hard. This has been my favorite class at MJC so far. He was the best.

Great Professor! Kind, funny, and understanding. Lectures are not mandatory, as long as you can keep up on your own. Labs are mandatory, but they are easy. If you ever have any questions, he is always more than willing to answer them kindly and precisely. Everything was always clear and understandable in his class. Was glad to be in his class! :)

He drops lowest scores for each type of assignments which is helpful. You do have to be there for lectures because he skips through the textbook. You learn a lot but be prepared to study.
