Good teacher, really nice and easy going. He is very smart and has a passion for the environment. I would suggest taking this class for sure
Very personable and explains concepts easily and clearly. A really good friend of mine who I am glad I have for 2 different bio classes. You would be crazy to not sign up for one of his classes. He does not pull the wool over your eyes at all like some teachers do.
He's knowledgeable about the subject but doesn't know how to teach it to the students. He's smart but just can't seem to "share" that knowledge with the students. He tried though... but a bit boring!
He wasn't that easy to pay attention to, and the early morning class didn't help. However, he was a good guy, knowledgeable and helpful, if you asked, and had a sense of humor, though it didn't always present when you wanted it to. Learned lots of stuff, nature walk was fun. Still, I didn't learn enough, and I didn't ask. My fault. This guy's good.
Great guy! His class was pretty easy, but you do need to study. If you follow along with the power points, then you're golden. He lectured most days, but also had "nutrition in the news" every Thursday which switched things up. Class could be long, but I loved it overall.
Hot guy! I like this. Also, a nice guy, a good teacher. Very helpful and totally cool. Totally helped me do a lab after I didnt come to class for a week and came an hour late. he seriously rules. his tests are hard but thats because the class is. he gives you study guides that actually outline whats on the test
This class is definitely not the easy. I took his online class. Every two week you will have an exam on the chapters (about 3-4 chapters) which was like 400 pages. And then you have assignments to complete but they were pretty easy. You must read the book in order to do well on his exam.
Excellent Instructor-online class-heavy course load but it is well planned & organized-responds to questions/problems quickly & instructor is very supportive-best part, he is available to students which is especially important with an online class-he reviews and makes necessary adjustments if there is an error-follow schedule & you should do fine
Gorsuch is a very clear, concise lecturer. He has an excellent understanding of molecular bio, can answer any questions you have, even the more technical ones. I recommend him over some of the other Bio profs at BC!
Dennis was fair and to the point. very hard class, but if you stuck around and asked questions he would always clarify. posted lecture notes online which was great so you could pay more attention during lectures. Tests were a bit tricky at times. take your time
Great Professor-took online class-heavy course load but structure is well planned and allows students to work ahead on assignments-Prof responds quickly to questions/problems-if you follow the schedule and course outline and submit all assignments and papers on time and then you should do great-tests/exams have time limits so be prepared-Recommend
I'm currently taking his class. So far I've been doing okay. I go to class everyday, I take notes and I've managed to do pretty good. He gives study guides which I find extremely helpful. Pay attention and go to class everyday! I hope I get at least a B.
I'm currently taking his class. So far I've been doing okay. I go to class everyday, I take notes and I've managed to do pretty good. He gives study guides which I find extremely helpful.
He gives study guides! very helpful!
A&P I. On lecture days: power points on the reading material. Lab days: short lab, or lab practical quiz. Posts material online, very helpful. Finished the quarter with a 100 point group project on the pathology of a disease. Fair, easy grader, it's the subject that some people struggle with. Yes you have to study on your own! Welcome to college!
He treated general bio like a general bio class. If you tried, you got 100% on presentations. Tests where a little hard, but I could/should have studied more. In all, I learned more than expected and enjoyed the class.
Pretty straightforward teacher although I would study every term on the study guides and most of them weren't even on the test, and he would have questions on the test that weren't included in the study guide. If you actually pay attention to his lectures in stead of reading the powerpoints online like me, you should be able to do well in the class
This is for the Nutrtion class he teaches at Cascadia. Long and boring lectures with occational bits and pieces of information that you will need. You do not need the book, you can get an A in this class and never even buy the book, I wish I was kidding. Lots of info about lots of things and nothing really in detail, mostly a waste of time.
Great class. Learned a lot. He keeps it simple but still gets the important info across. He's chill, clear, take him for sure.
He is a wonderful teacher and a person! He respects his students, stays after the class if you need. Very clear with his lectures, and he knows a lot, always ready to help. If you want to know HAP well, take his class.
Absolutely one of my favourite biology teachers. Really helpful outside of class and in class. Wish he taught 211!
Super nice teacher. MC ?'s are very straight forward but short answer and quizzes can range from hard to really hard. It is possible to get an A,it just requires a lot of effort. There are 3 exams and 5 quizzes plus final. The class is only 800 pts so you have to do well on all the tests. Can be a little boring for an early morning class.
A&P is hard. He is super nice and helpful, BUT there are not many points available in the class, and if you do not do well on quizes and tests you will not get better than a C. I will be retaking the class, in hopes of doing better next time.
Dennis is awesome, he is very helpful and is able to articulate concepts so it is easy to understand. His tests are somewhat hard but if you study you'll be fine. There is relatively little work in the class mostly lecture, some lab but a ton of studding is required as with all A&P. Lots quizzes that are all short answer and are not the easiest.
Dennis is an awesome instructor! Very helpful and thorough. Will take the time to explain things to you if you don't understand them. Great sense of humor! Class is hard but prepare to study and all will be good.
I really enjoyed having Dennis for Biology. He seems to know what he's talking about and pretty much answered any question I had. His tests are a bit harder but he provides plenty of other ways to make up points in the class. His attitude is light and tries to keep things interesting and can is pretty cool if you get to know him. Would Recommend.
Great Professor! I would reccommend his class to anyone who asks me. He can answer any question you have relating to the subject. He is really willing to help and his attitude really make the class enjoyable
DO NOT BUY THE TEXTBOOK. its like 150$ and I literally didnt use it once. He puts all the information you need to know on powerpoints on my bc. He assigns tests every week that are pretty challenging but thats the only work thats really required in this class. He is a passionate teacher, good class overall.
Great personality, very kind & considerate. Can answer any question you can come up with. Book is only necessary if you miss class. Don't miss class you don't need the book. Everything he tests on is in his power points. Quizes are harder than the Tests. Not very many points, don't get behind. Focus on diseases & pictures in his slides.
Dennis Gorsuch is a brilliant teacher! If you appreciate teachers who are extremely knowledgeable and well versed in their subject matter, take professor Gorsuch! His tests can be hard but if you devote time to studying the material you will get an A. This class is worth it because you learn so much valuable information that will last a life time!!
You can tell he's not too enthused with the subject as it's not what he studied in originally. Hardly any points to grab except for lab quizzes and the exams. He doesn't assign reading or refer to the textbook so be prepared to stare at black and white bullet points for hours on end trying to memorize things. He doesn't drop exams.
He gets right to the point. He tests only on what he teaches from the ppt slides. he doesnt offer many extra credit points. he only does quizzes and exams, and a presentation. He recommends 2 hours study/ 1 hour of lecture. if you use this you will get through it pretty well.
He talks fast and doesn't repeat himself to give you a chance to digest the material. He covers material that is only on his slides. Available to answer questions after class only. We had 12 quizzes, 5 exams. He doesn't exude passion in his teaching so be prepared to learn everything on your own. Hard to get timely email replies or grade updates
I highly recommend Dennis for A&P 2. He is clear, concise, doesn't waste time with unnecessary activities. Very efficient use of class time.
I really enjoyed Dennis as a teacher and took him for both A&P 1 and 2. He goes over his slides in class and definitely test off of them. Make sure to not leave class early since he often tells people what will be on the quiz. Lab quizzes in 242 were MUCH harder than 241 but do the best you can. I would take his class again!
Dennis is a good teacher he is just hard. To him this class is a ''weed-out'' class. If your are able to memorize anatomy for lab quizzes then you are good. The tests are literally what he says in class, and hard. I recorded all of his lectures and that really helped. He is really nice and helpful. He doesn't use the lab manual except for two labs.
I enjoyed taking both A&P courses with Dennis. He's straight to the point and is very helpful. I highly recommend him.
This professor was not very helpful when asking questions about the material. His responses would not answer the question and he does not adequately teach in class what is on the Exams. READ YOUR TEXTBOOK. I would have done a lot better if I had not ever gone to class but just read the textbook.
Asked him about clear guidelines for tests (A study guide or even a list of topics) and he refused. He won't do study guides because he doesn't want to be held accountable when things he said weren't going to be on tests, were. Skips around the material, does death by pwrpoint for lectures, and gives absolutely no guides. Expect utter confusion!
Let me be clear, dennis is a nice guy, I just wasn't a fan of his teaching style. He wasn't clear about what was on a test so even if I studied for days he would throw in a curve ball way out of left field. The lab quizes are extremely hard, he expects you to know everything. Record the lectures to study for the lecture tests and find a study group
Dennis is a great teacher. Somewhat tough but fair.
he is great teacher
Dennis is an amazing professor! I wish I would have taken him for A & P 1. He is not an easy teacher but his class is so organized and he will never overwork you. I probably studied for about 2-3 hours each night. As long as you pay attention in class and study his lecture power-points you will do great. He is a phenomenal instructor.
I've taken Nutrition, BIO 108 and Botany 100 with Dennis and he's one of my favorite teachers I've ever had. His lectures are clear and straight to the point but if you have a question or don't understand something he will take the time to help you. He cares about his students and he wants them to actually learn the material and pass.
Great Teacher for Anatomy & Physiology 1. Lectures are easy to understand and exams are straight forward if you study well. Lab quizzes are kind of difficult if memorizing things are difficult for you because a lot of the content(ex: muscles) overlaps with one another so it may confuse you.
Dennis is very very nice. He wants you to get an A or at least A-. Always there to help and spill some secret to succeed his class.
Dennis is a great teacher, I would truly recommend taking his A&P series together. He makes A&P fun and easy to learn. His exams are difficult but you have to put in the effort to learn it. I would fully recommend taking Dennis for A&P 241 & 242.
Dennis is an awesome teacher! His lectures are straightforward. Lab tests and exams are all based from the powerpoint. I would record his lectures so you won't miss anything. He gives reviews the day before the testexam, so make sure you write everything down! I took his class this summer -- pretty risky! Toughest class I ever had, but worth it!
AS SOON AS YOU SEE THIS REVIEW, close the window and just take him. You don't have to read any other review of any other teachers. TAKE HIM.
i LOVE professor Gorsuch! excellent teacher who sincerely cares about his students & wants them to learn & succeed. i took him for A&P I and am taking him again right now for A&P II. A&P is hard no matter what, but Gorsuch made lectures & expectations clear & explained things well. i definitely recommend him.
He is a nice guy and okay at teaching the material. He doesn't give out study guides and when he does review sessions he doesn't tell you whats on exams, which makes his exams very hard. You will have to study everything over and over again. I won't take another class from him but he is an okay teacher just not very clear.
Dennis was great for A&P 1 and 2. The guy is super active so he could use lots of examples from his own experiences to help with the concepts. Very clear lectures too.
I skipped a lot of class and still did relatively well. The tests aren't too bad- study the slides and pay attention to what he spends a lot of lecture time on (it's a clue for what his short-answer questions will ask). I am going to take 242 with him next quarter.
I've been attempting A&P courses for the past two years and definitely put blood, sweat, and tears into my studying. I didn't feel confident in the course until I took it with Dennis. He doesn't put any "tricky" questions on the test so it's easier to know what to expect. Not to say that he's easy, there's a lot of information in his lectures!
He is good instructor. Lectures are long and boating but clear explanation.
No matter the professor, this is a challenging class. A lot of material! Lectures are a little boring, but if you try and actively listen, it isn't so bad. His tests are much easier compared to other professors. It is definitely noticeable that this wouldn't be his top choice for classes to teach, but an overall solid professor.
Gorsuch is the best choice for botany; it's clearly one of his favorite subjects. He knows so much about it and is enthusiastic for you to learn too. Minimal HW outside of class. Test and quiz material comes from lectures w/ pwrpnt. Tests have application qs that really make you think. Every quiz has a bonus q and there's tons of bonus qs on tests.
Super nice guy and is so smart. Able to speak on his subject without stuttering or saying "um" for the entirety of class without being boring. Little to no homework so make sure you are in class for the lectures and you'll do fine on the quizzes and tests.
Never was a science person but I love plants/nature so I thought "I need credits, just give it a try". He never motivated us. He definitely grades the smart/nerdy people way more easy which is unfair. I felt out of place and he never made me feel confident. He's much nicer to the nerdy people. I regret taking this class so much.
Dennis is very patient with his students and answers all the questions efficiently. No wonder why his classes are always full. He's organized, knowledgeable and goes over his power point slides while explaining materials. He's pretty funny too. I enjoyed his class and learned so much about human body physiology. Will definitely take him again.
I like dennis as a teacher, He has great lectures and is clear. I struggled in his class because it is all exams. You have 11 total with a mixture of lab exam and lecture exams. There are very few other assignments to help balance your grade. I get bad test aniexty so this class wasn't for me. But i do recommend him if your good with exams, :)
Dennis is one of the BEST Anatomy & Physiology teachers at BC! He loves what he does and his lectures are great. Pay attention in class and do the reading for each chapter that you cover and you will pass! His exams are hard but that's expected. I took him for both AP 1&2 and passed with an A-. He truly wants his students to succeed.
Dennis is a great teacher. He's a great lecturer, very knowledgable, clear, and kind. His classes are tough however; had him before. In his Bio160 - at least for BC it's more of a 200 level class. Tough & requires a lot of memorization & attention. He doesn't give out much hw; grades mostly w/ lab & exams. Prepare to work. Great to learn from!
He's friendly and knowledgeable about what he teaches. He's willing to meet with you to help your grade. 8 quizzes/exams total, plus group exams, which can help. He doesn't necessarily assign homework. No official extra credit. Quite a bit of group work, including a big project. He responds to emails fairly quickly. Attendance is important.
Dennis is awesome. He was one of the best lecturers I've had. Super nice & it's easy to ask questions There's almost no HW and you don't really have to buy the book either. I suggest recording the lectures and being in class or you'll miss things. Labs were graded by if you did them or not. The exams had extra credit problems & mult. choice based.
Dennis is an awesome teacher. Lectures with his own slides and some video. Test are on what was discussed in class. He takes the time to review before a lecture exam. He provides bonus questions on every lecture exam. You do need to study this class entitled lots of information.
Very caring as an instructor. Tests are very lecture/textbook heavy and can be very hard but well worth it because he is such a great teacher. Very laid back and happy to help you.
Professor Gorsuch was a great instructor! His lectures were very interesting and had a huge impact on my life. He is very engaging and prepares you for quizzes. I would definitely recommend him!
Really good lectures , uses information that applies in real life. Learned a lot about health. Really caring and is understanding. Easy to meet outside class .
lectures are online but powerpoints tend to be flooded with material that isn't necessary for the test which is why its important to go to class because he will briefly go over things we don't need to know and focus on what really is important. Quizzes every other week, few exams, hard for a level 100 class but totally do-able. Chill teacher.
Dennis is a great teacher. I definitely am glad that I took his class. Although there a quizzes every week, his grading is very fair and he offers a great amount of extra credit to help you out. It is obvious that he cares for his students and is willing to help outside of class.
LOTS OF LECTURE BUT HE IS CLEAR ON WHAT YOU'LL BE TESTED ON. NO STUDY GUIDE. GREAT TEACHER. LAB HALF THE DAYS OF THE WEEK AND LECTURE MOST OF THE TIMES. ASK QUESTIONS!!
His lectures suck and class very disorganized. He said we didn't need any previous knowledge but skipped over lots of intro info and expected us to keep up. No study guides and tests did not correlate with what he said would be on them. I don't rec. wasting your time with his class. I was really bummed I didn't get taught/learn the material better.
Although txtbook not required it helped me a lot to use one. This is a really difficult and fast paced class and at first it takes some adjustment but you get used to it. 9 exams total in this class 4 lecture, 4 lab practicals and a final. 2 Lab manual checks. He's clear on what he expects and is very knowledgable.
Dennis is a great instructor and did the best that he could given that everything was online this quarter due to COVID. He has clear expectations and he tells you what will be on the exam. This class isn't easy, but as long as you read the chapters, and STUDY, you should do fine.
Fair exams and great lectures. Nothing bad about this professor. A&P is always gonna involve a lot of self-studying, so much of your grade is dependent on you.
Taken during COVID-19 crisis, so take with a grain of salt. Dennis is a great professor - friendly, approachable, and passionate about what he teaches. Workload is easily manageable, but all assignments in a given week are due on the same day. Tests are challenging but not worth a ton - your A is safe with B+'s. Easy grader on labs/discussions.
Professor Gorsuch is great but the exams are hefty. 4 Lecture exams, 2 Lab exams, and a Final. Definitely makes you work for it but also gave us about 3-4 5 point extra credit assignments that helps your grade out. He is really understanding of internet issues since corona is a major issue right now.
This class was difficult content-wise but they did their best to break down complex topics. Gorsuch is quite knowledgeable and is always willing to answer any/all questions. The exams were fair and I recommend utilizing every EC opportunity you get (4 lecture and 2 lab exams). Utilize office hours and remember to study hard and often!
Great guy-I learned a lot in his class. Its helpful that he follows the textbook closely
Dennis is AWESOME! Super caring, open, and relaxed. Always makes time for questions and goes out of his way to get them all answered. He uploads all lectures in case you can't make it. His lectures are picture/graph centered, he rarely reads off his typed notes. My advice is to take notes beforehand and then come to class for in- depth explanation!
Completed the A&P series with Dennis and he's absolutely amazing. Super caring, understanding, and will breakdown complex topics with visuals! He provides all of the powerpoints and recorded lectures so attendance isn't mandatory. Other than that, it's just lab work for assignments and lecture exams (with EC opportunities). 10/10!!!!
In terms of content, for ENVS, thought it was very good. What students want to learn about, or is relevant, asks lots of good ?s so nobody alienated, shows how complex problems are. Discussion, assignment, two short tests, and readings per week. Very straightforward, I enjoyed it a lot. Readings bit long, but interesting. Video+articles good too
The best teacher!
Reads verbatim from PowerPoint. Does not expound. Does not answer questions directly, if at all. Does not provide clear guidance on testable material. Provided study guides and homework don't directly reflect testable content. Basically taught myself by reading the text, and YouTube. "Labs" are useless. Basically, A&P was drinking from a firehose.
This was a great class taught by a very knowledgeable instructor. Although not ideal learning conditions being mostly online, Gorsuch provided many options to learn difficult concepts. Highly recommended.
group lab ws, amazing lectures and lecture slides, overall really chill. entire class loved him. exams were straightforward, half or most (ish?) MC, rest were short answer.
Prof. Dennis is really good. His lectures & labs are ver interesting & entertaining. Be prepared though, for his exams are very difficult; so you really have to study hard for them, and be ready for all kinds of questions and drawing of diagrams. Also, he doesn't posts assignments due dates on canvas calendar, so you must keep track yourself.
Dennis is a great teacher! such a nice and sweet person too! He made the class super fun and interesting. His midterms were a little bit difficult but there is plenty of opportunity to get credits and a good score, so don't panic. He is awesome!
The best A+P professor, super knowledgable and interesting lectures. He's very understanding and gives many opportunities for extra credit. Great professor overall.
i love professor gorsuch!! he's really funny (he likes pokemon lol) and made envs101 a really digestable course. i've learned a lot from the course and it's really easy. 2 short quizzes every week (10 questions per quiz), 1 discussion, & 1 assignment. it's made me love science even more :)
Dennis is a cool professor but if you're taking BIOL241 get ready to have no personal life for two months as this class will get in the way of having a job or extracurriculars. Study guides do not reflect testable content and you should get ready to self-study the content. The lab notebook questions do appear as FRQs
There are soo many tests. 7 in the entire quarter. He isn't clear on testable material or expectations. Lectures are sped through in class and not all material is covered, so we need to watch lecture recordings he made during covid to catch up. This class is very stressful and he doesn't make it easier. He isn't the worst prof but not the best.
He's very knowledgeable in AP. He gives lectures but does not get to all lessons by test day. If you take this class with Dennis, make sure to keep up by watching the recorded lectures from COVID. Overall, he's very easy to approach and straightforward with tests. Definitely put time into this class and find a study technique that you can stick to!
Lab checks+vid assignments: just do it, easy points. I recommend pre-studying watching the COVID lectures before actual lecture, and make sure you go to them because he uses examples that will be on the exam. Create a schedule to remember the anatomy because there's no planned schedule for it and is worth a lot, overall enjoyed taking his class.
Professor Gorsuch is good at explaining things in a simple way. His lectures are fast. He gives tons of extra credits, not a lot of homework. You need to be laser-focused on his lecture to follow him. It is a bit of a challenge for your English if you are an international student.
Attendance was not mandatory and was super straight forward with expectations. The labs were always due on the day he specified in our course schedule and exams were not worded in a confusing manner. There is little to no homework so you really have to dig into the material on your own and stay on track to do well on exams.
By far the easiest class and professor I've ever taken. 100% recommend. Everything is so straightforward and same format of assignment quiz and discussion each week. He was also flexible and accommodating. Light work fr. Take him!
Amazing professor. Very clear and straightforward. Explains the topics in a simple way so you understand. Good extra credit opportunities. Not a lot of homework which is good it gives you most of the time to focus on studying the material. Definitely a good professor to choose.
This wasn't my first time taking A&P 1, but Professor Dennis made the course so much easier to understand. The workload was manageable you just need to read the material and truly grasp the concepts. His videos are helpful in clarifying key topics. As long as you put in the effort to study and understand the material, you'll do well!
Professor Gorsuch's class is straightforward, but you'll need to put in the work. Lectures can be dry, so supplement with resources like unstuck ai and the textbook. Exams are fair, but stay on top of the material. Overall, a challenging but manageable course.
Dennis is the best teacher for A&P. The content is difficult, but he makes it very accessible through easy-to-understand lectures, clear expectations for exams, and being available outside of class. I recommend watching his Covid lectures and studying based on those, as they cover everything that appears on exams. If you study, you will do well.
Professor Gorsuch was amazing!! Only 2-4 assignments per week that were easy and short and he was SUCH an easy grader, he was funny too and understanding. Would def take him again, he made science bearable.
He gives less work to students, which is good so they can have time to read. . Good professor, less assignments, Exams are easy to pass if you read and come to lectures.
This is the best professor you can take for your A&P classes. Lots of extra credit opportunities, little to no homework so he really gives you time to focus on studying the material. Very clean on what to expect on exams.
Dennis is very knowledgeable in A&P and everything is very straight forward. Hardly any homework so you have time to study since there are 7 exams (4 lecture, 2 lab, 1 final). It is very fast paced and it is HARD. But watch the recorded lectures and study from those and the study guides. Has lots of extra credit opportunities. Highly recommend!
I had Dennis for A&P 1 as well, both classes were extremely hard and very test heavy. This class had 9 exams so it felt even more fast paced than A&P 1. But he still gives lots of extra credit opportunities and the few homework assignments he gives are easy points. Definitely recommend taking both A&P 1 and 2 from him if you can!
I absolutely loved taking envs100 with Mr. Gorsuch! The class was perfectly balanced with coursework and had a variety of assignments so it didn't feel repetitive. He provides study guides for quizzes which I found very helpful. Discussions are easy and I learned a lot from them. Best science class I've taken and I definitely recommend this prof
Highly recommended, he is the best instructor and this is the best bio course I've ever taken, the best part is that he spends more time focusing on lectures than assignments, because A&P is notoriously difficult and too much information, his lab times are interesting as well. His exams are slightly challenging, be cautious!!
dude is extremely chill, we get to have time for breaks during class. but doesn't offer a lot of assignments like BIO160 so everything is very self-paced and study time may be unorganized because of it.
Lecture slides do not reflect on the exams. Exams are very difficult and on material that is not anatomy and physiology focused. Avoid taking with this professor if you can.
Take him for AP classes! Very clear, straight forward material. Lectures are very good, he dedicates the whole class for review if you have an upcoming exam. Labs are very chill, you can stay or you can leave if you want. Exams aren't that hard, but he likes to test your knowledge. EXTRA CREDIT ASSIGNMENTS! Very generous with them (up to 60 points)
Prof. Gorsuch is a cool guy. A couple times I had quiz questions with answers incorrectly marked as wrong, I emailed him and both times he fixed my grade super quickly and he didn't get weird about the fact that I was challenging the course material or whatever. You won't need to buy textbooks, AND THERE'S NO FINAL WOOOOO!!! Highly recommend!!
A&P I is a difficult course. Expect 7 total exams (4 lecture, 2 lab, 1 final). I appreciated that he only had 4 short video assignments throughout the en
A&P I is a difficult course overall. Expect 7 total exams (4 lecture, 2 lab, 1 final). I appreciated that he only had 4 short video assignments throughout the entire quarter. He's a very chill guy and genuinely cares for his students. His exams are tough so study hard. I would definitely take him again for A&P II if I could. Good extra credit!
Professor Dennis is a great professor and I enjoyed learning A&P 1 from him. The course is tough because it's A&P, but Professor Dennis made the material understandable. If you prioritize studying for exams and complete the easy homework and lab book assignments, you will have a great chance of passing his course.
2 easy quizzes, discussion, & short assignment each week. No final exam for survey envs class. Great professor!
