Really nice guy, acts like he cares. Hold study sessions for test, semi difficut
No Comments
somewhat difficult so go to class, listen, and take notes and you'll do great
very easy, and he very organized and smart about botany
good teacher, boring subject.
Does what he can to make Botany interesting. Very nice guy! Love him!

Very good teacher! The best!!!!
Very good teacher. Tries to make botany intresting. Tests are smemi-difficult so keep up and do the reading!
Make sure you KNOW your going to be a science major because he formats his tests with that in mind, (to get you ready for advanced classes). He tries to make the subject interesting, but I never got his 'style' of testing.
Difficult to follow his teaching style, but he goes out of his way to help you. A genuinely nice guy who knows his stuff. The first time I took Botany I failed *due to skipping class), but took it agian and loved it (got an A).
Uses power point for class lecture. Easy to follow. Great personality and willing to help students. BUT you must study to pass. His tests are not always simple. WOuld recommend for any student.
GO TO CLASS! Boring subject but he makes it easy. Tests are difficult if you don't go to class b/c they come straight out of the notes. Take him, you'll get a good grade.
Great teacher. If he offers Medicinal plants, take it. Its an awsome class. Always willing to help.
good teacher lectures are kinda boring grading is ok you have to study for tests gives 4 tests 4th is the final just cant miss class too much information you will miss
Always helpful, funny, nice. Tests are pretty straight forward, but you still must study. If you attend class you should make a B or A. He actually had a graph of grades related to attendence, and nobody who missed less than two classes had below a C.
Gravatt is an awesome guy! His class is fairly easy, you have to go and you have to study but he offers a lot of extra assignments to buffer your grade. Go by his office and ask him questions, he loves it, and you'll get free candy!
Pratt is a lot easier. Take Pratt
Very helpful and for the most part, clear. Uses power point, multi/match/10 fill in blank on test= not hard, takes lots of attendence quizes so must attend class, easy A is summer or reg semester
Okay teacher, no need to buy the book just study the notes, test come straight from the notes. You will have to study hard for an A, not an easy class.
Very nice person. The lectures can be boring if you're not interested in the topics, but take good notes and you'll be fine. You have to study hard for the tests but when you do it pays off. He is always willing to help. Go to class. Gives attendance quizzes plus you don't want to miss any material.
Dont miss class or you will get lost, and you have to study hard to pass his tests.
He's a great professor, but you really have to study hard.
Gravatt is a really awesome guy.He drives a harley and loves to talk about them. His class isnt too bad, YES YOU HAVE TO STUDY. Missing a class or 2 will have you lost,TRUST ME. If you study and go over notes then the class is fairly interesting and easy. Use WEBCT you'll get bonus points, literally
This should be taught as the Intro class that it is but NO! He even tells you that he will treat the class as if everyone is a biology major. For a guy that drives a motorcycle and talks about beer, he complains way too much. Helpful but an ASS at times.
He is really a nice guy! Make sure that you go to class because he takes alot of attendance quizzes and get on Web CT too to look at his study guides too. Make sure that you know the Plant of the days! I would recommed taking him for Botany. Go to SI too because it helps!
He is a very nice, helpful teacher. Too bad his tests are extremely hard, so be prepared to study! His lectures are very boring. Also, be prepared to take 3-4 pages of notes!
This class is very hard but if you go to his office and ask for help he is willing to help you. If you don't skip class and take good notes you will be ok. DON"T be afraid to ask questions!!!!!
be prepared to several pages of notes, but attend class evryday uc it counts in the long run (for extra credit). I really went to talk to him one-on-one, but so to SI, he talks to the instrctor alot about whats going to be our test and sessions can be really helpful. The class is hard so be prepared
He is a great teacher if you go by his office he is very willing to help. Also he is extremley nice, his classes are hard and you must study.
Class is very hard, to get a good grade you must study in advance. He makes the material interesting. I recommend taking him. Also he gives lots of extra credit points for doing the work and showing up to class.
The class is somewhat simple to pass IF you actually read and look over the notes. All of his presentations are on Power Point (Good luck trying to get him to go back a slide or two). The lab can be difficult if you let it. Just be on top of your game and you will d well in this class.
This class is really cool. His tests are not that hard if u just study in advance. Lab is really easy. His lecture is on Powerpoint, so it is easy to keep up with. He gives alot of extra credit. I am expecting an A in the class.
This guy is totally awsome! Great teacher, fun class. But just because he's fun, that doesn't mean you can slack off in his class! Don't be late for class, he locked someone out for a few minutes once. When she kept knocking he let her in and made her promise not to be late again.
I loved this class! I was skeptical when I first started but Gravatt makes the class very interesting. Its easy too follow along in class since he uses powerpoint and the tests come right from your notes. If you before a test youll do great in the class.
As long as you study you will do fine. He is willing to help if you are lost, he is there for more then just study help as well you just need to talk he will listen. An overall great guy.

By far the best teacher at SFA. Dr. Gravatt really knows his material and makes it really easy to understand. I made a 68 on his first test and improved to a 90 by the third. Just study your notes and you will make a good grade. He is very helpful and is willing to take the time and help you if you need individual help.
nice guy. made a B in the class but noticed people were doing worse. study a lot. the material is hard but he's a good teacher. everything is on powerpoint and he curves the tests.
Gravatt is a nice guy but you must study alot for his tests and study your notes everyday. I'm failing his class just because I didn't study enough. JUST STUDY OR GO TO SI AND YOU WILL PASS!
He is a nice man. Just dont have your phone go off or get attitude.
I found that his tests were straight from his notes. If you study those, you should be fine. He emphasizes alot of things in class that are on the test. Don't hesitate to ask him questions... he likes that. But don't think you won't have to study for this class.
Dr. Gravatt is a difficult professor, but if you study and avoid procrastination, you will learn a lot in his class. He's always in his office and willing to help you with whatever you need. I think he's a wonderful professor and given the chance I would take him again for sure.
This class was difficult and required studying, but it is possible to earn an A with hard work and dedication. Just don't slack off, make a good grade on the first test, and turn you cell phone off.
This class does require effort on your part, but this is college after all. Dr. Gravatt is extremely well educated and is always willing to help a student in need. Know your stuff before you ask him something obvious, turn your phone off in class, and don't get mad if he asks you to leave. Lectures are given in Power Point. Always a plus!
Ok he is an extremely smart man!! Although all his lectures come straight from power points.. be careful because that is where he gets you, you are so busy writing them down that you forget to listen to what he is saying, and it always finds its way on the test! My advice.. buy a recorder and listen to the lecture when you study, you have to study!
He's a good teacher. I wouldn't take him again for anything else though. Just some of his mannerisms get on my nerves.
If you are not a Bio major, do not take this prof. The material itself is extremely hard; therefore, the tests are very difficult. GO TO CLASS! The homework helps the grade a lot because it's just a completion grade. Quizzes are for bonus points. Attendance not mandatory.
This class requires a lot of studying, but as long as you study well and know your stuff you'll get an A. The professor is always willing to help if you have questions, and the lab is quite fun and easy.
Overall, this class is easy. Gives several quizes for extra credit. Tests usually have five bonus points built in. I took cell and molecular during the summer, and there were lots of A's. It's not a bad class at all. Tests are multiple choice. Great Professor, Great Class.
I learned a ton in both courses. He was very interesting, if you work hard you will for sure get a B. An A will be a lot of work, but I think his class is worth it considering all of the knowledge I walked away with!
Dr. Gravatt is a great professor. Take good notes and listen during lecture. Make sure to write down quiz questions. They're on the tests! Go to S.I.! I can't stress that enough. Read over your notes every night and skim through the textbook before the test and you will be fine. This class isn't that hard if you study like you should.
Dr. Gravatt is a very good professor, but everytime I went into office hours and asked about the questions I missed on the test he made me feel a bit dumb for missing a question. Other than that, the material is very hard but Dr. Gravatt makes it somewhat interesting.
His test are hard, but you walk out knowing everything you need to know to pass the class.
Very strict grader ! Follow the rubric with precision or he will give you 0 to 12 credit
He is a great professor and I would definitely take him again. He follows his syllabus to a t and lets you know what information will be on each test. Don't misconstrue this praise as an indication of the class being easy, because he will make you work for your grade! However, if read your book, take good notes, and study, you'll do fine.
This class was really stressful online. The quizzes we took often covered material that wasn't in the reading or was over obscure specific facts. You can take them twice, but I often found my grade didn't improve much taking them twice. Dr. Gravatt is helpful on the essays if you go and talk to him and he curved at the end
Avoid him in Mol. Bio if possible! Despite his ability to look at the overall grades in the class (which were LOW) he kept testing us on things that weren't in the lecture and as if we all were excelling in the class. Always starts class with a lecture about trying harder to over compensate for his rigid grading & passive aggressive testing..
Dr. Gravatt truly wants his students to learn the material, which makes him a great professor. His tests weren't bad (if you study and go to SI). Watch out for pop quizzes!! Just because he gave one last class, DOES NOT mean he won't give another for the next class. Make sure you're on time too, because he won't give you the quiz if you're late.
READ YOUR MATERIAL BEFORE CLASS, I can't stress this enough. His lectures are packed with information so the more you understand before class the better. Also he is very condescending to his female students, though if you're a guy you'll be fine. He is very strict about attendance. I didn't find SI very helpful but that doesn't mean you won't.
If you take this professor, good luck. The labs are ahead of most of the classes. SI wasn't helpful for this class. The lectures are in depth and if you don't have the drive to do well, then good luck. He gives quizzes, but usually on the days that you don't think anyone will be there.
Dr. Gravatt was a difficult professor for a freshman level course. His tests are rather difficult and sometimes he would talk down to his students during lecture. I also believe some of the test questions were unfair. You will need to study alot. He is avaliable outside of the classroom and most helpful then. An A is possible, but not likely.
Don't recommend. Makes you feel dumb rather than boost your motivation during lectures and outside of class if you have questions. Expects perfection.
AVOID HIM AT ALL COSTS. He was literally excited that only 9 students (out of 40) passed one of our exams. I am an all A student and will be LUCKY to end up making a B.
Great professor. The class was tough and you need to study a lot if you want a good grade. Homework is due before the lecture so you will need to read ahead.
Dr. Gravatt is very passionate about plant life, so he will go into detail if you show interest. He is not helpful outside of class. I never got any help from him when I went to his office. Some questions on his exams are not clear as to what answer he's looking for. He does give bonus, though.
No help outside of class whatsoever.
Dr. Gravatt is great. The only downside is that if you haven't taken bio recently, it can be hard to understand the content. He expects you to have previous knowledge. His tests were almost exactly like the power point slides. He explains the slides well. I recommend reading the textbook a lot. Test questions were copy and pasted from quizzes.
Dr. Gravatt's botany class was the only one available for me to take this semester. I am a hard working student, but this class was very difficult to manage. Lectures are hard to keep up with, and he doesn't make the information very interesting. His tests are CRAZY hard, too. If you put in work, you can get the A, but it takes A LOT of studying
This class is extremely hard and he try's to make it fun and explain it, but I've heard the other professors are a lot easier. He does care about you passing and if you meet with him during his office hours he is more than happy to help you understand the material, but overall this has been the most difficult class I've ever taken.
AVOID HIM. Hes rude & expects you to know everything. He gave me a like a 20 on one of my essays & his comments were didnt answer the question & I looked back & I answered the question 3 TIMES, & doesnt reply to my email when asked about it. He even said my info was false even tho I got it from the book or his ppt slides. Inconsistent grading
He tries to make lecture fun and understanding but the test are very hard. It is a lot of material on each test and there are only 4 test and a homework average which counts as another test grade. Defiantly recommend going to SI and his office hours. I was very failing until midterms and he helped me get my grade up to a D. He does care if you pass
Dr. Gravatt is a great professor and quite passionate about biology. In order to do well in this class you must show up to class, take notes, study the powerpoints!!, go to SI, look over the textbook, and do MasteringBiology. Getting an A, and passing is totally doable but you must put in the effort. He is always available when you need help. :)
Lots of reading and memorization. He will indicate in lectures what will and what won't be on exams. If he emphasizes a particular section, know it like the back of your hand and you'll do well on the exams.
He gave me a few low grades on my essays and his feedback always said I did not answer the question. However, I looked back at it and I definitely answered all of the questions. I emailed him about it and he just told me to read the textbook even though that's where all of my info came from. I think he is just an inconsistent grader.
I took the online class. There were two discussion questions and one quiz due every week. The discussion questions aren't bad, but make sure to elaborate somewhat. Easy grader if you try. You have to have the textbook.
All his answers for his tests are online. Doesnt proctor and theres no need to study. I studied for weeks for his first test and I would have failed if the answers werent online
Gives EC option, do it if you miss a HW or 2- you'll be good. Don't forget to do them though- they count for 1/5 of grade. Tests (4) are a little difficult, some info not covered within parameters of chapters tested- READ AHEAD!! Go to class- even on zoom- he will be more lenient if you're on the bubble. Lectures are watered down version of book.
DO NOT take Gravatt's class. He is rude, arrogant, and mansplains everything if you are confused about something. I was respectful with him from day one, but he refused to show an ounce of respect to me despite how hard I tried to please him. He sent emotionally abusive emails and did not care at all about student circumstances. "Procrastination.."
gravatt was horrendous. he showed no sympathy for students and offered no extra credit. he does the bare minimum and finds pleasure in flooding his class with hw. I had 3 panic attacks during his semester. 1 time he intentionally set my exam at a time that I told him that I wouldn't be available to take it because he didn't like me. unprofessional.
Homework heavy and can take an hour or so per homework assignment on MyLab. Overall easy, answers are easy to find online. Got an A on everything but Discussions. Grades strict on discussions so keep that in mind. Other than that take the time out of your night/day to do the work and you'll be fine.
The class wasn't terrible. The homework wasn't too bad you had a week to complete it from when it was assigned. He is a tough grader, so you have to understand what he is looking for. You need to show that you are trying and ask questions in class. There is a big leaf collection due at the end of the semester. Take good notes and participate.
This class was pretty easy. Dr. Gravatt made the class interesting even though it was all online. The homework was on MasteringBiology so it was really easy. Only thing was that we had to be on top of our discussion posts. It says "Due Saturday @11:59" but he would count off if it wasn't turned in by Wednesday. I would take this professor again.
This class was an easy A but I was constantly forgetting to submit the discussion post by Wednesday even though he says it's due by Saturday? If you don't submit your post by Wednesday points were deducted. Also, you cannot reply to three students on the same day... Mastering Biology homework & quizzes were fine but HATED the discussion boards.
I have never heard of a professor that grades as unnecessarily nitpicky as Dennis. He literally will deduct points if you answer more than one discussion post ON THE SAME DAY. Also, for his ONLINE class, he said it was mandatory to see him IN PERSON to discuss grades, and can't over email. His grade system literally makes ZERO sense and is whack.
He's awful:) he makes you feel so stupid when you ask simple questions. he tries to parent more than teach and he makes you feel so small. he belittled the whole class and made all of us look stupid. he will yell at you for not taking notes, being on your phone, and talking during lecture. have fun.
Dr. Gravatt is a traditional guy. He is organized and expects students to work hard. He can be a little intimidating, but he teaches well. It is necessary to read the textbook and set time outside of class to study. He notices people who make an effort and cares about students' learning.
Took this class online and it was super easy. He requires you to get the online McGraw Hill Connect which is where you will do all of your work. You get pre work assignments that give you a free 100 at the end. You also will have virtual labs that give you a free 100 at the end. You also have easy homework and exams. Would take again.
Very talkative fellow loves science
