UCLA grad school educated leftist moron. Doesn't believe that alpha males ruled in early human tribes because those are ideas from biology and these ideas didn't exist back then. His history course is nothing but marxist propaganda.
He's not the best but he's not the worst. I felt like I learned alot about different religions that I had not heared of. Grades hard.

Dr. Laumann's class is a walk through the park for any well spoken and diligent student. He provides an excellent perspective on the world, and rewards good students very generously. His Marxist roots are expressed occasionally, but never offensively.
I guess there is some good information in his classes if you can get past the fact that he is convinced that Africa is the origin of the universe. Why do so many professors confuse "academic freedom" with brainwashing?
I learned a lot from his class. You really need to go to class to pass the class and make sure you take a lot of notes.
Go to class and you will pass. If you dont understand anything go to his office and he will help you out so much more that is very understanding. He is in love with Africa!!
If you dont understand go to his office. Help students who want to be helped. dont make the test seem harder than really are because if you go to class and study before the test most will be common sense!
Dr. Laumann's class was very helpful in my understanding of the world. I'm not a big history person, but I really did learn a lot in his class. I also enjoyed his MANY stories about Africa, and I will be going to Africa with him this summer.
Actually has pictures on his personal site of himself in Havanna on May Day...the most liberal prof I've had.
His class is hard, but he is on an ego trip. Uses the class room to shove his ideas and values down every ones throats. He isn't asking for participation, just for you to agree with him. Passing his tests are easy, but he's serious on spelling (??
Excellent teacher. His concentration in Africa brings about a whole new area of history left out in most lower level courses. Read the material and listen in class and the test are a snap. There is no doubting his political viewpoint, but his teaching ability more than makes up for it.
Amazing!
Interestingly Wonderful!
very interesting and smart guy. i went away actually REMEMBERING what i learned. very liberal, i dont recommend him if your anyway right-winged. actually, i do. maybe he'll open your mind. he is somewhat on an ego trip and very particular, but a great teacher. he brings alot to the subject matter.
I didn't like this teacher.
Great teacher! I actually took this class a few years ago and I still remember things from it. He's really helpful if you ever need anything.
I didn't like this teacher he need to get his priorities on the right track. He also need to check his grading policy . His attitude is so horriable. Have sympathy so times and stop being stubbord.
Very good teacher! Dr. Laumann may have liberal views but we are all entitled to that by the bill of rights! So all you people who do not agree with his views have the right to disagree, but he has the right to express his views. I found this class challenging and extremely interesting. He's very helpful and approachable. All you have to do is ask!
Do whatever you can to avoid this pompous moron. He is often rude in class, though he isn't that bad if you go to his office. His grading policy seems to be calculated to avoid giving anyone an A no matter what they do. He focuses too much on Africa. For some reason we read some awful old books that had very little to do with the rest of the class.
He gives study guides for all his tests! He has his views on Africa, but who says you have to agree. His lectures are entertaining. It was overall an easy class.
He should allow the students to voice their opinions when he made his opinion his answers for exams and essays!

i liked dr. laumann. he's somewhat of a humble kind of person. true, he's not opinionated, but he's rather an open-minded man---culture-wise also. he gives study guides, which are helpful for future tests. essays aren't that hard. just pay attention to his lectures and what he shows on the projector. study, and u'll do well.
I like this teacher. He makes his lectures interesting, and although he his rough on students with tardiness and cellphone usage, he makes you feel like he respects you enough to be there on time and prepared, so why shouldn't you do the same? He helps with papers and gives you all the tools to make a decent above C grade, all you have to do is follow them.
This is a awesome professor.
I dunno what it is about him, but he was born to teach!
He is a hard teacher who does not try to help at all.
this class is taught more like an upper level class rather than a lower level
I thoroughly enjoyed his class! He is probably the best teacher at the University of Memphis. He makes History interesting and is very knowledgeable. If you are willing to put forth the effort, I would highly recommend takig his class. Tests are in essay format and you will be required to write 2-3 papers, but he offers assistance.
I love Dr. Laumann sooo much! His lectures are very much so interesting and he uses a lot of pictures, movies, and even cultural music to help you understand his lectures. If you want an interesting teacher along with a good grade, this is the professor. Oh yeah, anyone interested in traveling abroad to Ghana, West Africa, this is the man to see.
I absolutely love Dr. Laumann. Somehow he finds a way to relax the class and everyone becomes friends. You never know what to expect-lecture, video, movie, group talks, etc. Also, you will find yourself thinking about things you have never put much thought into before. If you love history-you will love Laumann!!!!!!!
Solid Professor. His courses, all of which are well designed and easy to excel in, are fun and stimulating. Unfortunately, the structure of his classes emphasizes a cultural understanding of the area studied. Diplomatic and economic history recieve little recognition. He's also quite politicized. Don't take him if you're excessively sensitive.
WHen I took this class I was a freshmen and yeah at first I was a little intimidated but I learned to just ask questions and by me doing that My grades gradually went up. So with that being said all it takes is effort on your part. In general I really enjoyed prof. Laumann lectures he always try to keep you interested by making a joke.
Excellent teacher. He does require a couple of 3-4 page essays on some books, but he would basically tell you what he wanted to see. The tests were also very easy if you just go to class because he would announce in class exactly what was going to be on the test. I got an A pretty easy.
I have taken this class twice, and both times were great. I was a freshman when I took him the first time, and I did not do so well. But I loved the class so much I am currently taking him again, which is the best thing I could have ever done for myself. Right I have a B+ average and I am shooting for an A.........
Excellent professor! One of the best I've ever had. You have to study hard for the tests because you need to remember dates, but great great class overall!
EASY! EASY! EASY! (In my opinion). He gives out a study guide on all the exams, do the study guides and you'll pass.
He can be a good teacher, but like others have said he uses the classroom for propoganda. There were classes where all he talked about were his views. His class is easy, but he isn't helpful as a person and was never very nice to anyone. He has a bit of an ego and everyone can easily tell, but on the other hand it was an easy class.
What a dreadful, dreadful man. The class is basically Laumann spreading the filth that is his Marxist propaganda. I paid good money only to hear a short little man complain about Bush, the war, and society in general and then yak ad infinitum about going to Africa. Do not take this man! And yes, to those who wonder, I passed his class with an A.
I really enjoyed this professor and wish I could take him again for more courses. He is very passionate about African History and knows his stuff. The reading are overwhelming and I rarely did them, which I regret because I could have learned more, but I managed to make an A anyway. Come to every class on time or you will get called out!
he loves history....he even take students on trips to GHANA even summer. his class is very easy. attendance is not mandatory. however, he will never cancel class. there are 4 exams & 3 paper written on books that u have to read. very easy class. he tells you everything that is on the test. know dates, locations for exams
Dr. Laumann is an interesting and great teacher. His test are not hard if you look at the material for at least an hour or two. Some of the papers he required where a little challenging, but overall a great teacher and whose class is fairly easy. I recommend for History all the way!
I enjoyed this class! It was very easy to understand & the tests were easy. He grades pretty easy but you must goto class. Anybody who didn't like this class or pass it easily, probably just sucks at school and is very narrow minded. OPEN YOUR MIND!!!!!!!!
He is a very dun teacher. I know history is not at all a very fasciating subject but he made it as fun as poosible. We had a reading every night. Class meetings were not mandatory but highly advised, if you missed a class you can get the notes from someone else.
Dr. Laumann is a wonderful teacher! We're both from NY so whenever he wanted to share something to the class about his hometown he would include me in it, which was pretty cool. He's a wonderful human being and knows his field very well! If you ever get to visit his office you will get to see just how much of the world this man has seen, literally!
he's a little too strict but an amazing teacher otherwise. he's a pretty funny guy and very knowledge about African history. he's very passionate about it and makes sure u learn and understand the material. his classes are a bit reading intensive so if u don't like reading, u should skip this course. if u love reading, then i strongly insist.
his tests are all essay and not the easiest. but he is very interesting, and if you let him know you are trying he will help you with your grades or missed assignments.

I took him two semesters ago, and while he does talk about his views...it makes the class interesting. Reading people's comments that said they failed because of his lack of this or that...are INSANE. Didn't come to class or didn't do the work! It's college people, grades aren't handed out, they are earned!
Dr. Laumann is very passionate about what he does and makes class very interesting. It is not cakewalk, he does not treat his students like children. You get exactly the grade you earn, because that is how college should be. Attendance is not mandatory, but tests are a lot harder without notes. Tests are all short answer. Know it or you don't.
i love Dr.Laumann. HE is a great teacher. opiniated, yes. you may not like the things he has to say, but it's irrelevant to the class. Lectures. He does powerpoints for EVERYTHING. 3 exams, easy as long as you study. read 3 books, each with a 3-4 page paper, easy material. Go to class, take notes.
Wittiest. History. Professor. Ever. That's all I gotta say about him. That and the fact that he's always precise about whatever assignments he gives out.
i completely respect pro. laumann's level of knowledge. that said, he basically uses his position as a platform for pushing his own political, social, leftist agenda on the class. this is not for the purpose of discussion, agree or keep your mouth shut.
Dr. Laumann is very clear, he heavily depends on lectures so you will want to go to class. Overall it is an easy A-B
Wonderful teacher. Dr. Laumann is precise in what he expects on tests and papers. Go to class, take notes and this class is an easy A,B+. Do not come to class late, do not bring your cell phones. Take advantage of his knowledge. He is opinionated, but college should make you think outside of your own small-minded world.
He will have you laughing. Talks a lot. You will never get out of class early, but he is an easy teacher. You need to go into this class with an open mind. He is very cute too.
he's a very good teacher. he uses quite a bit of profanity, but for the most part, he is pretty funny. He is very opinionated and doesnt care if you agree or not. The work is not very hard, but you must do it all if you want to pass. You must take notes and study them if you plan to do well. And you WILL need to buy the books...all 4 of them
One of my classmates put it best in saying that the class is "mainly about dealing with his personality". He is a thought provoking speaker but can come across as a headmaster disciplinarian at times.Show him the respect he demands and he will reward you with good grades and a great new way to look at Africa.
he is a complete **** run as fast as you can
RUNNNNN HE IS HORRIBLE
Dr. Laumann is a good teacher and his class is easy to pass, but if you do not come to class or take good notes. it will be difficult!
very down to earth. does not hesitate to curse you out
Online quizzes are easy....Take good notes and attend class and you will pass the test. test format kinda difficult. He is very informative but remember to respect him. papers are kinda hard to write. DO NOT HAVE YOUR PHONE ON..LOL. USE PROFANITY. He make you think.
This professor has a slight arrogance some don't like but it is well deserved. He is one of the most distinguished teachers available if you are interested in learning. He has a great sense of humor that keeps the lectures interesting. If you take good notes, study for the exams, come to class, and leave your phones at home, this class is a breeze.
Dr Laumann is without a doubt one of the best professors at UoM. He'll make you think and tell it how it is. Also, he does not let students walk on him, like some professors. Even on the level of academia PhD's are on not many match the courage and truth of Dr Laumann. So if your open-minded and want a great professor that will use that, take him.
The people that think this class is upper level do not belong in a university class. Go to class, take notes and PARTICIPATE IN DISCUSSION. This is a very large class and if you don't get yourself noticed, you won't stand a chance at being helped. He is very opinionated, but this is the real world and people need to get over it.
AWESOME TEACHER! with shake the ground on traditional concepts of evolution and religion. If you are conservative christian do not take this class you will get upset. AWESOME teacher! Hilarious! Favorite class of the semester!
Dr. Laumann is my favorite teacher this semester! I always look forward to his class (not lying). He has great stories and really does want his students to do well! Although he is very blunt, honesty is important to me. He is one teacher I'm going to remember for the rest of my life! Take his class he has great energy!
Took him since I had him for World Civ. New what I was getting into. Expects u to be there everyday (he will fail you if u miss unexcused). Wants you to learn (or ELSE) so don't take him if you're looking to fill an elective. Also his is a VERY OUTSPOKEN MARXIST. If you disagree with all that he says (like me) best to remain quiet and do your work.
I LOVED his class!! I am a bichemistry major and I can't stand history and I couldn't wait to go to his class. He is very blunt though and HATES cell phones. He honestly wants you to do well in his class and your other classes.
Dr. Laumann is a good teahcer! He is strict and expects the very best work out of his students. He cares about his students learning!! He is opioninated but very interesting. I hate history, but his class was very interesting. Do not use cell phones in his class! The best teacher that I have had so far at UOM.
Dr. Laumann is a great teacher and knows his stuff! He's pretty funny too! If you are serious about your faith in Christ he will probably make you mad lol but if you like history and like a challenge then this is a great class. He irritated me sometimes but You will learn a lot! It's not an extremely easy class. You have to make an effort!
Dr. Laumann is one of my favorite professors. If you are a REAL Christian, please take this class. I am a follow of Christ, and have been so challenged. This man opposes God seemingly due to the hypocrisy of the church. Please show love and effort. You will hear alot about religion and culture. Simply follow his syllabus and you'll pass easy.
he is a very opinionated man that knows history very well! the class is easy as long as you study for the tests and follow his instructions on the papers.he gives a lot of advice and tips for the papers. he is NOT religious in any sense and if you cannot handle that then do not take this class.
The man worships the democrats and doesnt even respect Republicans view. He sometimes stops class to rant about his own views. Other than that hes pretty easy. Dont have to worry about missing class which was nice. Tests are paragraphs and essay which can be tricky but just take good notes.
Very good professor. Can be a bit condescending, however. There is a lot of reading, but if you stay on top of it, and keep organized, you should be fine.
overall the best teacher i have had at u of m. He challenges your beliefs and urges you to think critically. If you do the work and show up to take notes you will pass. Hes funny and inspiress you to do our best
Dr. Laumann puts more energy and interest into a lecture than any prof I've ever had. He motivates you to work hard, shares new ways of thinking, and very fair, though brutally honest on the subject of religion from a historical standpoint. He wants all of his students to succeed and calls everyone "brother" and "sister". Laumann is the man!
no extra credit. doesn't work with you if you missed an assignment. its manageable. has humor.
Dr. Laumann is one of the best professors I've ever had! He actually makes what he's teaching interesting and challenges you. As long as you do that work and take notes you'll do great easily. Don't forget to do the online quizzes!!
Had 2 classes with him and started the semester thinking that I would not make it through two classes with him as prof. He quickly became one of my favorites of the years I have been there. Had NO knowledge or interest until he opened my eyes. Now I am reading books on the subject for leisure. AMAZING TEACHER AND ROLE MODEL!!!
Personally, I thought the class was pretty easy. As long as you take good notes or just review what is on the study guide with the book, then you should be fine. The tests are all writing paragraphs and essays. He puts a lot of energy into his lectures and is definitely not shy about sharing his opinion. I loved him as a professor.
Has a great sense of humor and very intelligent. He has radical viewpoints and will not neglect discussing them but frankly anyone who can't handle it probably shouldn't be in the course to begin with. Regardless, he comes recommended.
I loved Dr. Laumann's class. I had been adviced not to take him if I wanted to get an easy A and so this made me jump right in. I believe in earning my grade and want to be challenged, that is what college should be about. He gives great lectures and is very intelligent. If you believe in learning everyday, this is the class for you.
Love him! Very intelligent. Made the class so interesting! Attendance isn't mandatory, but i recommend this not be one of the classes you miss. TAKE NOTES! STUDY! READ! If you do those 3 you'll be fine. 3 papers, online quiz every friday, a midterm and a final is all we have. So work hard. He is picky, but i wouldn't want another professor.
I wanted to drop out of his class because I despise History but once I heard his first lecture, I stayed put. Great professor for oncoming freshman.
Dr. Laumann is one of the best profs at the university. I would recommend his class. His teaching style is great and he makes it clear for all students. Go to class everyday, do all your assignments and there is no way you will fail.
Dr. Laumann is what a professor should be. He is very knowledgeable about his material and he wants his students to come away from his lectures with a better understanding of the subject. He has his own opinions but is very respectful of others. He is clear cut: do exactly what he says and you will pass with at least a B if not an A.
He is hilarious. Hands down. I have never met such a witty, comedic professor like him. Extremely knowledgeable and is very engaging. He tells you like it is, and no, it's not easy. However, I learned a lot,and he is easily one of the best history teachers. He always mentions office hours and reaches out. Work for the grade, and it's yours.
Dr. Laumann was an excellent professor. He tells you exactly what you need to know to pass his class and if you do it, you will. He is very intelligent and funny. He has some strong opinions that might make you mad or happy depending on yours. So, if you don't mind a little "stepping on your toes", but want a good professor, he's your man.
Whatever you give to the class, Dr. Laumann will give back. What I mean by this is if you put in the work, pay attention, and participate, you will get the grade you deserve. If you show that you care, but need help, he will help you out. However, if you do not care, neither does he. One of the best professors I have had.
Dr. Laumann is an awesome professor. You might think that history classes are boring and uninteresting, but I assure you Dr. Laumann's class wasn't. I'd advise anyone who's considering taking his class that you come to class each class, take great notes, and be prepared to do work! If you do those three things you're going to do great in his class.
Overall he was a good teacher, he kept the class engaged and brought in guest speakers to make sure you knew how to write your papers. He is straightforward about his beliefs in politics and religion, wouldn't recommend if you are religious at all.
Very clear cut. Follow the syllabus and do your work and you will be fine. Tests are pretty easy if you study partially. There are 10 online quizzes that go along with the book, three papers for three books, and two exams. Pretty easy if you ask me. He genuinely cares about his students so everyone respects him. Definitely participate! Do not fear.
Laumann's class was definitely difficult, but to this day it's my favorite class I've taken at the UofM. He's very funny and engaging, so it really helps keep you from skipping which you should do under NO CIRCUMSTANCES. He didn't take attendance for my class, but the lectures are very important. Expect to write 3 papers, and take 2 difficult tests
Dr. Laumann's class was better than expected. His view is open and let's students critically think. This helps for test taking time which are super easy because you have a study guide. Two papers are assigned, which involve reading a short assigned outside book, and they are super easy with only 3-4 pages. Help is always given in office hours.
He was amazing, I sat at the front & I highly recommend you do. If he sees that you care he will be kind & helpful. As for reading the book...I never did and I passed everything. My grade in that class was an A! :) He's a great teacher and his lectures are fun and you will always learn something new! Enjoy (: (World Civ)
Best teacher ever. Come to class and you will easily pass.
I took Dr. Laumann for World Civ. 1, and I actually did enjoy the class. He demands manners, and he doesn't tolerate nonsense. If you're a Christian, ehhh, well, he probably doesn't like you. But, as big of a Christian as I am, I have to say that i enjoyed his class. To those who are offended easily, walk out the door and find another teacher!
This has got to be my favorite class I've ever taken. He is completely straightforward with what he wants and made me fall in love with history. There are 10 online quizzes, 2 exams, and 2 short papers. If you show up for the lectures and take great notes you'll pass no problem. He is very open minded about religions and politics, but I enjoyed it.
Definitely one of the best professors I've had being here for 3 years. He will make you work for the grade, but if you just do the work, there won't be a problem. 2 papers, 2 exams, and chapter quizzes from the book-that you don't need to pass them.
Dr. Laumann is my favorite professor at the UofM. He's interesting, funny, makes people think, and is very open. His class was easy if you showed up and took the notes. 2 papers, 2 exams, and 10 online quizzes. Super easy. He makes you work for the grade but as long as you try you can't fail his course. I wish I could take him again.
Professor Laumann is extremely passoniate about African history. You will do a lot of reading, 10 quizzes, and exams. Oh yeah, random assignments that are not on the syllabas. Whatever you do don't miss his class, and pay attention!! Please don't be snarky with him he will shut you down. Overall, I enjoyed the class, would take him again!
Dr. Laumann is totally awesome. Just be proficient and make it a priority to attend class and you will be fine. Lectures are great and very informative, also he's very funny and you will most definitely have fun in this class.
If you look past the constant stream of profanity, his inability to act in such a manner as to actually deserve the respect he demands, or his ignorance of academia, critical thinking, or open-mindedness like he touts -- he might have the potential to be a decent professor.
I love Dr. Laumann since the day I entered his class. He's hilarious and very blunt. If you don't go to class you definitely won't pass. Reading the textbook also helps but it isn't really required. He's understanding if you're in a sticky situation and is really about equality but he won't babysit you. Also class participation isn't required but you should definitely participate.
Dr. Laumann is a solid choice for World Civ I. He grades from a map quiz (basic geography, 10%), a syllabus quiz (5%) two papers (15% each), two exams (midterm 15%, final 20%), and 10 online quizzes for which the answers can easily be found online. The book is good for preparing for exams and writing the papers, but you can get by without it.
I took this class so that I could take the study abroad trip to Cuba during Spring Break, and it was pretty amazing! He wants your papers to be almost perfect so do them ahead of time and get them checked. He comes off as rude sometimes but he is okay as long as the class participates. No phones, no talking, just listen and participate!
As a 41-yr-old seeking a second career, Dr. Lauman has not earned my respect as a professor or as a human. He clouts his equality but shows it by his condescending use of "my brother or my sister." He wears his academic prowess as a badge to demand respect from younger students in their first semesters of college. Make sure you attend class.
Dr. Laumann was amazing. He was easy to understand and while others were offended by his words, he was truthful. This was a history class and the study of religion was necessary. I would recommend him to everyone. I am trying to take another one of his classes as soon as possible. PS listen to the man. He is not afraid to kick you out of class.
Super stringent grader and no tech allowed in class at all
Dr Laumann was one of the toughest professors I've ever had but super funny guy. He cares a lot about what he is teaching, which made his lectures very interesting. I took his class over summer and his test were hard. about 10 short answers for each test. Be prepared to study.
Excellent and engaging in lectures, and the weekly quizzes are very simple with the textbook. As long as you attend and take notes, youre guaranteed an A.
I loved coming to class because he really makes the lecture exciting.
His lectures are amazing and he relates them to current political topics. Be ready to take lots of notes because the mid-term and final are based on them. He doesn't allow technology. He is also a very funny man so you'll enjoy going to class everyday!
Laumann overall is a good professor. He's funny, thought-provoking, and very entertaining so although there's a lot of listening and notes required, he makes it interesting. The stuff about the ego and strictness is true, he loves hearing himself talk. However if you just listen and do the work, he's overall pretty fun and not terribly hard.
Very funny and interesting guy, although if profanity bothers you, I'd steer clear of him since he uses lots of it daily. Class is not too hard, but taking notes is necessary to receive a good grade.
Dr. Laumann is an AMAZING professor! Very knowledgable about History and very passionate about it. He is freaking hilarious and makes learning about boring History so much fun! 2 papers, 2 tests, and a quiz each week so make sure you stay on top of the quizzes. He makes you work for your grade but hes awesome!
Hes not the best professor he likes to give out exam study guide a day or two before the exam which is difficult to pass his exams he also uses foul language a lot which is not pleasant I failed this course twice
I'm not one for History. In fact it's my least favorite subject, but he made me love it. I loved going to his classes! I sat in the front row every day. It's best to take notes on the lectures, they are VITAL for passing the exams. So while attendance isn't required, it's very important. His lectures were interesting, and online quizzes were easy.
Attendance wasn't mandatory but you need (good) notes to pass the midterm and final. You DO use the TB for papers but not much else. Two papers, a midterm, a final, one online quiz per week, occasional questions due on Fridays and like one pop quiz. Show up, pay attention and take nOTES - you'll do fine. I really liked him, very passionate
He was an okay guy, intimidating at first but hes clear about what he wants so his class isnt that hard. Im not a history fan but his lectures/opinions were interesting. Ppl are kinda right abt his attitude but the guy just wants respect, no phones, & no side convo so if u just come to class take notes & look over it 2 days before a test ur good
Dr. Laumann is an amazing history professor. Although I do not agree with all of his political views, he knows how to teach. It is clear he loves his job and cares about teaching. He makes his lectures super interesting and funny. Be prepared to take lots of notes. Easy class if you do the work!
Dr.Laumann is a good professor. His work is easy if you take the time to do it. Come to class for notes or make a friend in the class to get notes from lectures.
Dr. Laumann was the most organized and professional teacher I'd ever had! His classes are lecture heavy and he even bases the Midterm and Final off of certain topics discussed in the lectures. Due to that reason, I recommend coming to class and paying attention. Take good notes and keep in contact with another classmate, and you're sure to pass.
Dr. Dennis is an okay teacher. Doesn't like cellphones, computers, basically anything technology related. You have 2 average easy papers, a midterm and final exam. 10 easy quizzes which you can just look them online, a syllabus quiz, and map quiz. The midterm is difficult so beware of that. If you do good on the quizzes and one papers you're good.
Funny teacher & enjoyable lectures! He is very knowledgeable & passionate about what he teaches. You must (kinda) read the books & have notes for EVERY lecture as the tests are exactly what you cover. He can be rude but only because he has expectations for your behavior. He pulled out a machete in class once (educational purposes) so there's that.
Dr. Laumann is fine, he has a very strict no cell phone or computer policy once the class time starts. The class in itself was not very difficult, but it is extremely reliant on the notes that you take in class, as he does not post any notes online.
Took this class online over the summer. Had one vocab quiz and one video quiz a week based on a 1 hr video. 2 written response questions per vid. quiz). Honestly pretty easy, you just needa follow the criteria for the video quizzes. As long as u answer the question youll get a 100. A written response mid term and final but SUPER EASY. Get the book!
Laumann can be a hit or miss depending on what kind of student you are. If you like passion, engagement, and lectures with actual emotion he's great. A lot of people think he's mean but he does it because he wants you to improve. The essay readings were pretty interesting, but you MUST READ. You can't be lazy in this class.
Very engaging professor, time goes by pretty fast in his class. Have to be able to take great notes. Midterms and finals are based strictly on notes. Weekly textbook quizzes, but not hard at all. He gives study guides that make the midterms and finals super easy. Just have to put in the work.
Dr. Laumann is an amazing professor and he takes his course very seriously. He has a strict no-phone rule so make sure they're off when in his classes. You MUST be present in class if you want the notes because he doesn't post them. The weekly book quizzes are easy if you just read the textbook. Prepare to study for finals and book exams!
He's a great professor- just make sure you go to the lectures or you've already screwed yourself over- he doesn't post his powerpoints or anything and what grade you get is what you get; there is no extra credit and he's very firm about it. but he teaches REALLY well.
I cannot recommend Dr. Laumann any more. Also, this is my second time taking him. I even convinced one of my friends to take him, and she also enjoyed him. He can be intense, but that's only because he wants you to put in as much work as he puts in. In short, you get as much of his respect as you give him. Amazing teacher, funny guy, W class.
Dr. Laumann is the best professor I've ever had. He is very enthusiastic about his work and is an incredible lecturer. The mid-term and final were based entirely on the lectures. He gives out study guides and offers extra credit opportunities. Show up to class on time, stay off your phone and pay attention and you will do fine.
Dr. Laumann was easily one of my favorite teachers. He was passionate about what he taught, and made everything easy to be interested in and remember. As long as you respected him and put in a little bit of effort, he would make class enjoyable. I would recommend him for any class and wish more teachers were like him.
