Prof. Lopez is very, very helpful. The weekly online quizzes are a good way to boost your grade. If you have any questions, he will spend all the time you need to help you work it all out. He also brings candy to class!
this professor is the bomb. the material its self is hard but he finds good and easy ways for you to understand it. i would recomend taking this teacher for any class he teach's
This professor is great. Very patient, and does not care if you attend class. Well, he does care, but not many students showed up to his class. He is so nice and understanding that many students take advantage of his kindness. I received a B, but I hate accounting. If you are like me, take his class.
He goes very fast in class and doesn't even make sure everyone understands. Doesn't give enough time to be able to understand and retain all the information to take the tests. Has an accent and speaks really fast. DO NOT TAKE!!!!!! Quizes are moderate and doesn't give enough time to solve it or understand what you are actually suppose to do on them
Awesome professor, wish he had taught Accounting 1. Teaches material fast but will go back if you have any questions. Knows what he is talking about. Homework and quizzes help with studying. Very very helpful!! Read the book and do the problems assigned for the test and you will make a good grade..GREAT PROFESSOR!!!
He is very fair in the way he teaches. Show up to class and do the required assignments and you should do fine on the exams. Doing the practice exams on the books website really help with the online quizzes. I recommend taking him.
The class is hard. He is fair in grading, you just have to do the work. The quizzes are too short in my opinion. Alot of people take the whole time to take his tests. If you like a challenge by all means, take his class.
He is so helpful and understanding. If you go to class and do the quizzes and homework you will do fine. The class overall was very hard, but it is up to the student to do the work.
Dennis really works hard at teaching the material--you'll have to work hard too. He's very available for help and really cares about his students. One of the best professors I've had.
I guess he's a ok prof. I couldn't help but fall asleep in his class. Though, he is helpful, and RARELY gives you a curve. Can't say much except that it's accounting, so you should expect it to be a challenge. Point is, he is a teacher you can pass it with.
This class to me was useless. It was pointless to go to class b/c he didn't teach anything. He went through problems out of the book expecting everyone to know. Many of us did not have questions to ask b/c we did not know what to ask.The online website helped a little, but there were many errors. I would not recommend taking this professor at all.
Good Professor, be prepared to work for your grade. Read his power point slides and know them inside out, practice the problems he gives you in the book, and take the online quizzes. Multiple choice on test is difficult. Know how one thing will affect the other in your calculations and you should pass. Very Helpful!
Hard class but a good professor, very helpful.Tests are mostly straight foward, although some questions are confusing.Look at ppt slides for test and quiz questions. Quizes online, but defin.look at the book website prior to quiz. Go to class,hw problems are similar to the problems he works in class. save quizes after doin them to study for test.
Dr. Lopez is a very good professor his tests come straight from the material he covers in class and on the assignments. You must attend class though to do well in the class because he covers most assignments in class. Very little mandatory HW and Quizzes but there are some. Overall I would recommend him to anyone who wants to actually go to class!
This class I found challenging. The quizzes are hard because of the time limits imposed. The tests aren't terribly hard because they're mostly true/false and multiple choice. I found the professor to be engaging and genuinely interested in the subject and success of students. He had a good sense of humor and was muy energetic.
Not sure what to say. Its accounting there are lots of details and some technical work involved, which may make this difficult to some students. Professor explains in depth, notes, homework and quizzes are online. Tests are straight forward. Attendance not mandatory but if you plan to do well must attend.
Dr. Lopez is interesting. Do not text or sleep or talk or do anything other than listen to him in class or he will call you out. Despite that, he does a lot of examples which are good. Book necessary for t/f on the tests. Lots of quizes online. He has an accent but you get used to it It's accounting, so put the work in or don't take it.A can happen
This man is AWFUL!! Not helpful when you go see him in his office. His test are extremely hard, half of it is t/f. To do well in the class you must read every chapter prior to going to class. Hard to understand. No projects or anything to help raise your grade. Don't take this class!!
Dr. Lopez is really a great guy but you have to put in work to do well. Yes, this means you need to read and study for the exams. This is not an easy A and I worked hard in this class but I learned so much once it was over. If you are a student who cares he will take interest in helping you. Take the quizzes and be ready to study.
Great professor to take helps you if you do not understand, i took it in spanish and it wasn't as hard as people say just alot of more reading
Great instructor!!! Take his class. Definitly not an easy A but he explains everything in detail, works problems out in class, very approachable, easy to talk to if you need help just ask, and he even gives out candy. I would recommend him over all to anyone.
Dr. Lopez is an awesome professor!! He goes over everything in detail so as long as you go to class and pay attention you'll make at least a B.
Very organized and consistent professor. Homework, lectures and in-class problems prepare you very well for exams. Lightning fast feedback on tests. Get the grade you earn!
Very structured professor. He goes over exercises in class step by step. If you attend class and re-do all the homework he assigns, you will get a good grade. He gives points for attendance. The only thing I did not like was the online homework.
Important to attend all classes and you can do well. Final is comprehensive. If attend classes and read chapters, can do well on homework. Quizes a bit tough
I took beginning accounting two with him. Such a great professor! Very clear how he explains. If you don't understand it's because this isn't the major for you... accounting is easy if you pay attention. Don't slack and you'll do well! I got an A+. He's awesome.
The professor is very good, but other professors at UTSA allow you to use formula sheet in the exam and a scientific calculator. Also, the online weekly quizzes and online weekly homework is very hard. I dont recommend.
Dr. Lopez is really a professional at his teaching. He knows what he teaches and is very polite and friendly. ACC is not a blow-off in nature, you have to work for an A but its achievable. Besides the teaching in class he also helps students develop professionally outside of class, if you go to his office.
Professor Lopez is very knowledgeable in accounting. All the homework & quizzes are due online, typically within 2 to 4 days after he opens it in blackboard. He did not give any answers to the homework or quizzes. Both were more complex than what I would learn in class. Class is mandatory. Although he is friendly, I would not take him again.
Dr. Lopez is a great professor and amazing person. He goes above and beyond to help his students. It is very important to attend class and do all the homework and quizzes. He will not assign extra credit but he will give work with you to get the best grade. He is very approachable and always responds to emails. Great teacher and a great person!
Dr. Lopez is very approachable and wants his students to succeed. However it you want an A in the class I would not recommend taking him. He teaches the general topics in class and the HW/ Quiz are way more difficult than what you went over in class. He doesn't normally give extra credit, but if you put in effort you will get a C or B.
I honestly can't relate to any of the comments below. Managerial accounting with him was difficult. I think his lectures are way easier than the tests, and his reviews personally didn't help me. He is a great professor, but his material was unreasonably hard.
I got an A in his class and I barely showed up. I did this by working out all of the extra problems on the wileyplus website. I realize this will be a lot of work but it made all the test and quiz questions cake. The Wiley class website shows how to solve everything step by step. This is my best advice to anyone taking his class.
He gives you a point of extra credit for every class that you show up to which is super nice. He likes to repeat himself a lot on the easy stuff, so much that it gets kind of frustrating, but once you get past that he's a good prof who actually cares if his students pass or fail.
Lopez is awesome, his lectures are very easy to follow and he always puts things into perspective. His syllabus makes him seem hard but he is willing to work with his students. He knows what he is taking about and is easy to learn from. You have to study to get an A and do well on his tests.
He has a thick accent, understandable but mostly hard to follow. He's random and irrelevant with his examples/videos. Takes attendance...I don't get that at this stage in a college career. I should be able to save my gas if they aren't teaching me, without my grade suffering for not showing up. It's not extra credit but 10% of your grade.
Do not take Dennis Lopez if you can help it. His lectures seem smooth and easy, but his tests are nothing like what he teaches. Went to his office hour to review a test and he admitted that he did not teach the concepts that I was struggling with. I only got an A bc the course was moved online. Do not take him!!!!
Awesome professor, was able to quickly adapt to moving online. Had a fair amount of homework that included reading the chapter and a few homework problems for the week. I definitely recommend!
Overall a Nice Professor, however he does not prepare you for exams at all. Tests are nothing like homework. He will review with you homework problems, but the tests are conceptual questions with mathematical questions here and there.
Overall, homework is very short (3-5 questions per chapter) and optional lectures to watch online. A lot of reading (plus reading questions), but it's not tough at all. No extra credit at all.
I took this professor during the COVID-19 pandemic so things are bit different. With that said the teacher was very professional, knowledgeable, and went out of his way to make sure you knew the material. You do have to work for your grade, but he helps along the way.
This class was hard because all accounting classes are hard, but compared to other accounting professors Ive had, hes the best. The homeworks arent too time consuming and even though the tests are hard, he does his best with reviews for them.
If you do your HW's and get at least B's on your exams you'll pass. The HW's are easy 100's and the exams are multiple choice. Take good notes & study well. Personally I never attended lectures(attendance not for a grade) I used the prerecorded lectures he has available, he also provides, PPT & Excel sheets. Took him as a Nonaccounting major.
This class was a class that I struggled in because the teaching was close to useless. I had to find my own ways of getting extra material to study because the professor would not even provide us with a review for the exams. Lectures, in my opinion, were not helpful because they were just repeats of old material.
The Accounting department in UTSA is terrible, take the ACC1 and ACC2 in community college if possible. You will not be provided with a study guide, which is ESSENTIAL in this course. Homework is nothing like the tests. As far as I know, most students passed with a 70 in this class. Take it outside UTSA!
Best to take your accounting classes through community college. Same credit and so much better quality. Dr. Lopez's class was not helpful - proctored tests (HORRIBLE), and lectures didn't really cover test material. Granted - he's a nice guy and his class is well-structured. His teaching style just didn't work for me at all.
Dr. Lopez is great! ACC2033 was a better experience than financial acc, definitely. Attend his lectures, follow along with his Excel sheets, and try your best to review those. The exams get progressively harder, and bc of the acc dept: Proctorio, no notes. Study hard, ask questions, and he will help. He is a very nice professor, so don't be afraid!
While class was not required, there would often be extra credit opportunities only offered during class time. As long as you attend class and follow along with the provided excel sheets you'll do fine in class. This class was much easier than accounting I was, especially because of professor Lopez. He answers all questions and truly helps students.
He didn't teach well at all and also would give almost no extra credit opportunities. This guy never gave us any study guides for the exams and would have to study other things and would fail. He doesn't give us any extra credit for the course evaluations which made me really angry I would not recommend.
Sometimes I feel that he does not really understand the material himself. It is either that or he does not know how to explain the answer to certain questions. He does not provide study guides, and certain things that are on the exams he does not go over because reviews can only be an hour and 15 minutes long. He also DOES NOT give extra credit.
Would not recommend if you are trying to really understand the material. He might be good at answering questions, but that does not mean you will understand the explanation. I did not like his way of teaching at all. I feel that he was hesitant over certain things he was saying too, as in not sure of what he was saying when answering a question.
Fantastic prof, would take every class with him if I could. Go to the lectures and you will do so well in his class!
This class is not a cake walk, but this professor outshines everyone in the Accounting Department. He reviews some of the questions you'll find on the test, tell you what not to study, and does his best to answer students mid-lecture. This course is set up so you do not fail if you give it some time, it all depends on your willingness to study.
Accounting isn't an easy subject but this professor made it easy. Professor had great lectures overall and responded emails quickly. Assigned a perfect amount of homework of 2-3 assignments per week. Tests weren't hard if you practice 3-4 hours per week. Overall great professor with a lot of passion to teach.
Loved Professor Lopez! He is so funny and caring about his students. He even gives extra credit opportunities if you attend in-person. The class is pretty straight forward. You really do not need to go in person, but if you do he spends most of the class going over examples and explaining all the concepts fully. You will definitely pass if go.
Even though accounting isn't my strongest subject, this class is study heavy. I didn't like how Prof Lopez sets up this class, even though he's a good person. There were no quizzes or projects or any other opportunities to improve my grade, just homework, readings and exams being the toughest and the determination of the grade in the class really.
WAY easier than accounting 1. The main grade is 4 tests, which I normally don't like, but trust me this course is easy. He explains the material at a good pace and the work isn't super time consuming. It isn't a big deal if you miss class, but I do appreciate his teaching.
I went to the first couple classes and got nothing. All the homework, quizzes, and tests are given online. The exams are proctored, but not too difficult. I signed up for the in-person lecture, but if I were to do it again, I would just sign up for online only, unless you actually wanna learn Accounting 2. I would recommend him again.
His lectures are pretty good but you still have to make sure to study hard because your grade is still based on assignments, homework, and then exams and no extra credit or anthing. I wouldn't take the class again but I would definitely like to have this professor again.
He is pretty easy going except for when it comes to participation. He'll send threats via email to students if someone in his class is not doing something right. Just like the rest of the accounting department at this school he uses proctorio for his class. Not sure why STEM students have to take this course a requirement. He did an ok job teaching
Professor Lopez is awesome and so friendly!! He makes accounting a little bit exciting. I didn't think the course was that difficult as long as you read the chapters thoroughly and go through the examples. Lopez gives you a lot of reminders, homework isn't too bad, and the professor also gives you suggestions on what to study
The professor is very nice. There are weekly reading and a homework assignment. There are no quizzes. There are 4 test that are multiple choice and fill in the blank. Overall, the class is easy to pass and not very time consuming.
Tough class. If you absolutely have to take accounting here, I'd take him over some other people. His explanations aren't bad but not the greatest. His tests aren't really similar to what he teaches in class. His class is doable but definitely a lot of work. Annoyed me after he wouldn't give extra credit because of one person in the class.
AMAZING professor! He's got a heavy accent but it's not too bad. He's so funny and makes the material easy to understand. I think accounting in general is just convoluted by default and professors get put at fault for it. He's awesome and very flexible. easy class, easy A. Would take again.
He IS one of the best accounting professors at UTSA. Most of his examples are similar to the homework, he is caring, and funny. I would definitely choose him.
One of the best professors I have ever had! You can tell he really cares about his students. I took it in person, but there is no need to go as everything is online and he does not take attendance. However I do recommend going to his lectures, he explains everything really well and answers any questions you may have.
He is a good professor, probably one of the best Accounting professors at UTSA. This class isn't a cakewalk by any stretch of the imagination, but if you did well in Principals I then you should do well here. The concepts and homework are easier here than in Principals I and you would be able to expand on knowledge built in Principals I.
Professor Lopez was very good at communication. He would send 3-4 emails a week about various matters, keeping the students informed and connected. His lectures can be a bit long, especially if you have him for a longer time frame. Be warned that he does randomly call on students in the audience, despite it being a class of 80+ students.
Dont take
He does not trust his students whatsoever. The exams are worth more than half your grade and he does not let you use your own scratch paper during the exam which makes it difficult to complete in the small time frame we have. Homeworks were fine, lectures ehh. He uses excel which makes a bit hard to learn from them before taking exam.
Great class and teaching, tests are proctored, and not allowed to use calculators or paper which really sucks.
Accounting is hard, but Lopez is one of the best accounting professors. Love his lectures. Make sure you gotta study hard as the exams take most of your grade and you can't use scratch paper, only your head. Proctorio and McGraw as the rest of the accounting department requires.
Awesome! Made a hard class easy to understand. Attend class and you'll do just fine. Homework every week, no quizzes. NO cumulative final exam but 4 exams throughout the semester.
He's pretty chill. You only have to do a smartbook and homework on McGraw Hill every week. As for Tests, it was pencil and paper, you can use a calculator (on other reviews I see he didn't but did for us). He uses Excel to do some problems, which I find helpful because if we keep getting reps in, we'll grasp it (then again, that's me).
Dennis Lopez is an amazing professor, super caring and understanding when a scary situation came up in class. Lecture heavy but he does problems on Excel and you follow along. 4 tests throughout the semester on pencil and paper and smartbooks and homework during the week. no cumulative final but the final is the module 4 exam.
Professor Lopez is probably one of the few times at UTSA I have actually learned the material that was being taught. It is imperative that you do go to class. The lectures are interactive, so you have to do accounting in Excel while he is teaching, but it makes it a lot easier to grasp. It is definitely a difficult class but I would take it again.
Prof. Lopez is very understanding and is a good professor. I felt like the required material for the exam was sometimes a little unclear, and I remember the first test being distinctly harder than the last three. Do the smartbooks and extra practice around test time and you should be fine. Otherwise Prof. Lopez is very caring for his students
This class isn't hard, although I do feel Professor Lopez can be a stickler. He calls on people in class as a scare tactic to participate. I feel his teaching method lacks info where he reads his slides and does not iterate what it means. excel problems to copy, test don't match class lessons imo. Test in person w scantron and proctored heavily.
The Professor is great. You need to attend his classes and do the homework. If you pay attention in class and study the study guide it should be an okay class. I only got a low grade because I missed some homework since some are due on Fridays.
Class lectures didn't match the exams, no extra credit. He calls on people to participate.
Overall, he was a good professor. The only thing I didn't like was that he does his lectures on Excel, but when you take the test, it does not match the problems in class, so you want to do extra practice to prepare. For two of the tests, he does give a formula sheet to help you and a study guide for each module on what topics will be tested.
He does not have extra credit. Lectures are on excel. The lectures did not really match the exams. He is a good professor but his class was a bit difficult to take. He also calls on people to participate in class, so you have to be paying attention.
Lectures were all done on excel and did not match the exam questions at all. There were 2 assignments due, one on Friday and one on Sunday. He is not the absolute worst accounting prof but is definitely not the best.
Taking Excel notes won't matter because the exams are word problems. Having a bad grade on an exam will hurt your grade average. I won't take him if you don't want to stress about a class.
Amazing class, he does give extra credit for exams, and if you study and do your homework, you will get an A, Remember to do the practice exams and you will be set up
Dr. Lopez is a caring and understanding professor. Homework is minimal, and although your grade relies mostly on exams, they're pretty simple with a good portion of true/false questions. He's strict about no late work. I found his lectures helpful, and while attendance isn't required, he does call on students to participate in class.
Great professor who knows how to comunicate what he's teaching. Lots of people say notes are taken through excel, which is true, and the test are made of word problems, however they are not very far off at all from class lectures. As long as you show up and take notes you'll be more than fine. He offers extra credit multiple times through semester.
Professor Lopez was great! He is a great lecture giver and is very understanding when you make mistakes, and he can help out when needed!
