DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER!!! He is very anal about everything!! he don't use KCC exams- he makes up his own and he expects us to be math geeks like him!! C'mon we do take other classes but he makes like we only take math! in some ways he's easy because we don't have to write out everything for homework but his test are really really hard...
I highly recommend this teacher (in fact I'll be taking his other classes). His grading is fair and his exams are fair - but you have to do your homework! He's available during office hours and via email to help with difficult questions. He speaks clearly and explains the math process very well. He seems dedicated to successful learning experience.
I dislike math but having him as my math teacher helped me so much to better understand the subject. He is the BEST math teacher I have had and is always willing to help you. I highly recommend him and I will be taking his next math class. You have to be willing to work for you grade in his class. His test are very difficult but still doable
It was kind of hard to get the swing of his teaching style at first, but it's something you can get used to soon enough. And yes, his exams are difficult. But he's very helpful. So just come by office hours, and you should be fine.
I took Math 135 during summer and i really liked his class. He is very very helpful and very nice instructor. His tests are not too bad if you understand and study the materials. I would have taken his class if he teach calculus....:)
He's a really good teacher. He makes everything seem really easy. It's just a matter of practice. Loves telling stories and makes the class fun to be in. He's an easy teacher, doesn't ask for much really. I totally recommend him to you!
i really liked his class he explained things very well and as long as you go to class you should be able to understand things and if you dont hes more than happy to help you understand
Pros: Fair grader, tests can be easy if you do the homework and study, he's easy to reach for help during and outside of class in person or by e-mail, and he gives a generous amount of extra credit. Cons: Somewhat slow at grading, few quizzes so test prep is limited to homework and notes, and homework is collected with only random problems graded.
Dennis is sooo AWESOME!!He's very understanding... extremely helpful if you see him in his office hours. He's always willing to make the time for you. He's also young so he understands alot.. ALOT!He's also a GENIUS! (no, seriously, he is!) I'd recommend him to EVERYONE!! As long as you try your hardest he will help you succeed!!
Cool and smart teacher. Very enthusiastic and encourages students to participate. Tests and exams are fair. I highly recommend him.
I rather get a root canal without Novacaine then sit through another class with this Instructor!!He's young & egotistical & takes up way too much class time with dumb jokes & needless chatter.I asked him on many occassions for help only to have him ridicule me in class.I was a striaght A student until I had the misfortune of stumbling upon him.
Great Teacher. He's clear about everything and comes up with helpful hints for us to remember easier. One of the best instructors I've ever had! Tests are fair. The tests test your knowledge of the material. RECOMMENDED!
He is a good teacher, but he expects too much when it comes to tests. If you're not that good at math, I wouldn't recommend him. He gives some really tricky problems on tests so you need to know everything about every section. Homework almost everyday and ask for extra credit because you'll need it.
exams are difficult.Homework is fair&easier then other classes.I didnt do well on the exams so I was thinking about dropping the class.but he really encouraged me to stay in the class.offers enough extra credit to pass even if u fail every exam! very cool guy&super understanding! fun to talk to and really does give the extra help when you need it!
Absoloutely my best math teacher yet! Yes, the tests are hard but ONLY if you weren't paying attention in class. Math is my worst subject but he made it almost easy. He gives tons of extra credit, and he's dedicated to helping you REALLY learn- which is the whole point of taking a class, right? Its helped prepare me for math 103. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
He's okay. Very nice but you could probably find an easier teacher to take.
BEST TEACHER EVER!!!
I like the class, he keeps it fairly entertaining. He really wants you to be able to think and like math. His class is super-easy, but the catch is that he likes to be tricksy on the tests: he will throw stuff in there just to check if you're *really* paying attention, which can be annoying. TONS of extra credit. He's cute, if you like geeky.
must take him!!! great math teacher. he is young and make class really fun. he always have some fun facts to share with the class. He really does try hard to make math easy. plus give out tons of extra credits that are worth 3 hw points (30pts)so you can't go wrong. also always give xtra credit after math exam. He is not like other math teachers
Young, energetic and absolutely useful.
his prrtty good. fair teacher
Second time taking him. Excellent teacher. Willing to help anytime and he's absolutely helpful. Although, this semester I guess cause it's his first time teaching 103, it feels like we're rushing it but that's what his office hours are for. And he'll be willing to help at all costs. So take him! Definitely recommended! He's a great instructor.
THIS TEACHER IS VERY NICE. HE GIVES OUT ALOT OF EXTRA CREDIT. TESTS WERE MULTIPLE CHOICE WHICH HELPED ALOT TOO. CLASSES WERE FUNNY BUT JUST MATH 100 THE SUBJECT WAS A BIT CONFUSING AND ITS SUCHA A BORE. BUT PERUSSE IS A NICE GUY AND WILLING TO HELP HIS STUDENTS SUCCEED
Perusse is a great instructor! i only took him for math 100 and i thought i was going to struggle in that class, but i did pretty well. he has reviews for tests, which are very helpful. really nice and energetic. He also gives A LOT of extra credit.
Great teacher, lots of extra credit, willing to help students during and outside of office hours, just takes a long time to return work.
Best. Math. Teacher. EVER!
Excellent teacher! His method of teaching is excellent. With his funny humor he makes while teaching makes it very entertaining and enjoyable to learn. He's also willing to help students in his office hours or outside of campus. I ended up meeting him at Starbucks. I totally recommend taking him.
Very easy to understand, lots of extra credit. Willing to meet with you, take this professor.
This teacher is really great at explaining the sections. I always struggled in math before but Im doing perfect in his class. The exams are super easy if you pay attention and do the homework assignments. He always gives extra credit on the tests and always wants to help.
He's totally the best Math Teacher I've ever had. He explains the lessons very well. There's an assignment everyday but that will help you prepare for his exams. He also has a great sense of humor and gives a lot of extra credit. He's not only very knowledgeable in math but also with other subjects. Super nerd but super cool guy.
A teacher that is very helpful. You can meet him in Starbucks during weekends when you need help in MATH. I totally recommend this teacher.
The subject can be hard, but he tries very hard to have the students understand. Textbooks are sort of useless. I have to say the lecture notes are easy to follow than the book. If you have hard time following along with the lessons in class, he is willingly to meet with you outside of class. He is very funny. I DEFINITELY recommend this teacher.
Dennis is "hands-down" the best math teacher I've had during college. He took a hard subject and made it fun. He has these quizzes everyday that are on the same stuff so that you can remember the formulas. He was also very helpful and was easy to talk to. Dennis is the man! I actually waited two semesters until he taught calculus to take the class.
Dennis is a great proffessor! also an awesome human being. He cares if you get the material or not. Very helpful and willing to give extracredit and extra help! Totally recommend you take his class. You'll learn a whole lot!!
HANDS DOWN THE BEST MATH CLASS EVER!!! He's kinda nerdy but in a fun way :D He's lecture is very organized and clear. As long as you understand the examples that he goes over in class, you'll get an A. LOVE THIS TEACHER!!
Super über helpful teacher! Provides great lectures (with a side of humorous sarcasm). He's got an easy going personality and applies it to Calc, which then makes the subject a breeze. He posts practice exams and he has almost daily quizzes (random to be honest) to ensure the material sticks & to make sure you don't ditch class (his pet peeve).
Good clear lectures, easy quizzes if you stay caught up, gives practice exams and a lot of extra credit, willing to help outside of class. Hard class but good teacher
He is one of the best teachers I have ever taken in my life. Calculus is not easy class, but he makes it easy as much as he can. he is humorous too. his class is fun. he answers if you have any questions. even he has quizes in almost each class, it helps a lot. HE GIVES US SAMPLE EXAMS each time, and it is very very very helpful.
Dennis is the man! He's a bit of a nerd, but like he says, he makes math less painful for his students. You don't really need the book, just buy the online component. Lots of extra credit, and he's always willing to help. Hands down, one of my favorite math professors I've taken.
Calculus is somewhat hard and Perusse manages to make it understandable. I now actually enjoy doing the homework. He is a very forgiving professor. The proofs and exam questions makes you think, but he explains them, if you ask. He is almost always available. I personally think he is a one of a kind professor and everyone should take him.
Beats around the bush too much. Take home exams are fine but it's never straightforward. Incredibly late with grading exams. If you want to pass Calculus I and higher and prefer someone who is straight to the point, take someone else.
i have taken allot of math classes and i can say he is a very dedicated teacher. he will stay with you until you learn the material
Dennis is an awesome teacher, who cares a lot about his students. He is extremely helpful and if you do not understand the material, he is willing to sit there going as far back as you need to go in order to help you understand. He is also hilarious! Not boring at all. I highly recommend him.
Is a good lecturer and gives good examples however he rushed through the last chapters and wasnt consistent giving homework. Gives extra credit and quizzes are pretty easy as long as you do the homework. Difficulty level is too high between his multiple choice and extremely lengthy take home exams.
Perusse is a good teacher. I took trig twice in high school so I knew the material pretty well. He has class online once a week and I didn't know so make sure to check that when registering. Wouldn't recommend if you don't like doing math on the computer. But he is a great guy thats always willing to help his students!
Take any math class from him. He gives extra credit and is friendly so he is approachable. Very helpful and explains well. Exams are not meant to be tricky, he's straightforward. Highly recommended. He is always happy and eager to teach, you can tell he loves teaching math.
Perusse is hands down the best professor I've ever had, math or otherwise. Go to his office hours, he will help you SO MUCH! Math is my worst subject, and he seriously did everything in his power to actually help me LEARN the material, I have him to thank for almost everything I know about math. He keeps class fun and interesting, you'll love it!
Exams can be tricky with 5 options on multi choice including "none of the above". Very lenient grader though. Gives partial credit for showing work on multiple choice exams. A lot of opportunity for xtra credit. Had two pop quizzes. Homework per CH thru Mymathlab online. He's at the STEM center a lot. Always willing to help especially if a female
He gives a lot of homework. He is nice but at the same time, is tough.
Dennis is a great teacher. He's extremely clear and helpful. Don't be shy and definitely visit him during office hours. His exams are multiple choice. Occasional pop quizzes. Easy homework. Overall, great class and great teacher!
Mr, Perusse is THE BEST. I can't tell you how much I've struggled until i took his class. He is SO clear on lectures and the study guides are perfect because if you know the study guide, you will pass the exam with a big FAT A. Go to class to keep up. He is so funny too, he goes off topic sometimes but its really knowledgeable things so he's awesum
If Math isn't your best subject, he's the perfect professor to take because he's VERY WILLING and EAGER to help. He'll work with you until you understand it. His office hours are 8+ hours/day. Gives lots of extra credit. Homework is online, very easy. 5 exams total, Easy A on exams if you follow the study guide. You won't regret taking Mr.Perusse!
Took Math 100 from him a year ago. Still such a great teacher, willing to help you understand material. Gives a lot of extra credit. This semester he was a little off the ball but nonetheless would recommend him. Homework is easy, does some pop quizzes. Gives sample exams which help.
Really cool, funny dude to talk to. ALWAYS willing to help if you need it. Downside, kinda too laidback & unorganized and skipped like 5 sections cuz he didn't have time. He gives take home exams which are 20% of your exam grade, they're super time-consuming, but TONS of extra credit on these. Final was multiple-choice, but no partial credit.
Just read what everyone else said. Need to know Math 140: -quizzes on trig iden. + unit circle (wants you to remember them he will give the same quiz) -mymathlab can't return book buy code to save money - text not required but helpful for study -notes posted online some lecture online -always in office willing to help till you get it
He's cool. If you know the stuff already then you are good. I got an A without even attending the online section
So I took this guy up til the middle of the semester then I dropped his class. It was really confusing and he would just ramble on and on about some random things from time to time, and lectures are are unorganized I wish he would just be on topic because this is a hard class to get. Take him if you just wanna walk out of class confuse.
He doesn't know how to teach. He doesn't grade your examsquizzes and won't give feed back on how your doing. He is unorganized. He is also, VERY BIEST. If you don't hangout with him in his office then prepare to be on his not so good side (HINT: grades are heavily based on this). Good luck!
He once spent a whole class talking about the word "or". Seriously, I pay for class to learn something not to talk about irrelevant topics. Ugh, seriously dreaded going to his class. DO NOT TAKE HIM!
Not a good professor. If you have an option choose someone else, if not then god speed my friend. You will not learn from him at all. This is a self taught class, literally.
Does not lecture during class. He somehow manages to avoid talking about relevant material for the entire lecture. Expects you to see him frequently outside of class, but is rarely available or willing to help. Gives unsolvable problems on take-home exams. He may take over two months to grade an exam. He didn't show up the class before an exam.
Took Dennis for Math100 a few years ago. His teaching style hasnt been the same since. He talks a lot about irrelevant subjects, & lectures for 15 min unless he's out of time. The only thing that remains the same was how the sample exams are similar to the actual exam. luckily this class mostly on the calculator so I wasn't completely lost.
He is immature and churlish. He will base the class work on his mood and spitefulness towards the class. Also, he will waste a lot of class time talking about nonsense. If you want to learn anything at all, then the find a different teacher. By the way, he is not a professional when it comes to his job.
Not a good teacher. Do not take him if possible. Relies on you to see him after class for help when we should be learning during lecture instead. Teaches and grades based on mood. Class was not organized and did not follow the syllabus, felt very lost the whole time.
He's a good teacher and his lectures helped me to understand the material a lot. You must go to class and get to know his personality to be able to know what he expects from you in the class. home works not bad, first two tests weren't bad if you do the study guide again and again. Do not complain about works he assigns, he killed us on the finial
It's unfortunate that a teacher like him is teaching such a high level class. People say that he helps you but that's if he likes you. Umm, as for the work that he assigns, he tried to assign multiple assignments. They were not hard nor easy. But, the thing is that he doesn't teach so whats the point of it. Also, he doesn't grade them.
Be careful if you take him. You will leave the class more confused than you were before. He will offer help, but he should just do a better job at actually teaching. He goes off on tangents and did not return any of our homework or take home exams. Take homes had material that we did not cover. Take someone else.
It is clear that this professor suffers from LMS (Little Man Syndrome). He THINKS he is an expert on everything (especially in engineering). He has an obvious chip on his shoulder and has control issues. Odd to why he offers 'help' outside class but not during. Careful, he has no problem embarrassing students in front of peers and colleagues.
I have taken Dennis a few semesters back for two of my required math classes. I don't understand how he could get terrible ratings from current students. He was one of my greatest professors taken at Kapiolani Community College. He helped me beyond words and was willing to provide outside of the classroom help. He's AWESOME and GREAT! RECOMMEND:)
Professor Perusse is really funny and energetic, which doesn't want to makee you fall asleep. He gives sample exams, and also gives take home exams that you have to complete for credit added to your exam grade. Homework is done on mymathlab and you have to show work on paper for credit. Lots of extra credit to get.
Easiest A in my life. Didn't do my project, which was 10% of our grade and got 30% on my hw/quizzes, which was 20% of our grade, and still got a 92% overall. Just ace your exams which are exactly like the samples and do maybe 1/4 of the online hw. Or you could skip all the hw, ace your exams, and do the in-class quizzes.
Dennis was at his 10 year mark, so he was stressed on whether he was going to be cut or not from the system. I felt like he was more focused on that than us students. He could've been a great teacher if he didn't get too distracted or expected too much out of us. I literally learned everything on my own through MML.
He is a mediocre teacher who expects to praised for "excellence". Unfortunately, he lacks the compassion, effort, and knowledge to even scratch the surface of "excellence". It's a shame that we still have LECTURERS at KCC who are down right terrible at there job. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS
He gives us so many extra credits and there is a review day before the day we take a test. It is so helpful to get good grades on the tests.
20% of your exams are take home and the material in these portions are not lectured on, so expect to teach yourself how to understand it. Theres a project he assigns that is due at the end of the semester which is difficult to complete. His lectures skim the material you need to understand, so be prepared to spend extra time teaching yourself.
Pros: He is willing to spend extra (one-on-one) time outside of class to help. He does give sample exams that will help for the real thing. He also gives a good amount of extra credit. Cons: He is not a good lecturer; poor at administering material. He also goes way of topic too much during lectures. Not the worse teacher, but far from the best.
He's a really picky grader, like he'll mark you off for not putting equal signs or even FOR putting equal signs--so be careful. He gives at least a 10% bump worth of extra credit, so do all of them to keep you safe later on. He is accessible outside of class and he will help you a lot more than the lectures in class.
GO THE EXTRA MILE, IT IS WORTH IT (EXTRA CREDIT). Stay on top of his class, very approachable and willing to sacrifice all his time to help you. He goes above and beyond for his students, the most I've ever seen. Very serious about showing work, but it builds good habits and provides leniency if there is a simple mistake. DONT BE AFRAID, ASK 4 HELP
He needs to organize his class better. He tries to squeeze in 3 different sections at such a fast pace in a short period of time. On top of that, he talks too much in between about random stuff. Its hard to understand the material when we're just racing through everything.
His class is very poorly organized. The last two weeks of class we ended up having our exam, the take home for that exam, and the final. Classes also feel very rushed and to really understand what he is going over, you'd have to ask him outside of class.
all pop quizzes and exams are taken in class, as to his lectures, its okay. He suggests texting instead of emailing but when it came to am emergency situation where I'd have to miss out on the last 3 weeks of school, he never did email or text me back after how many times I tried contacting him. His work is pretty hard and exams are tough.
I'm not strong in Math but with a little work you can get the A. Dennis is one of the best math teachers I've had. Explains things well and always encouraging students to visit him in his office if having trouble. Lots of extra credit opportunity. However a tough grader; Pay attention when he explains how to give your answer (equal sign, brackets)
AMAZING!!! This was a tough class. His passion for mathematics is very obvious. Hes fair and extremely helpful, just ask. He is very approachable. I want to continue with more than Calc 1, if i could take him again. He made math seem fun and applicable. He has a sexy-nerdy way about him that just adds to his fun character. TAKE HIM IF YOU CAN
Most likely to be the best math teacher I've ever had! I've taken Dennis twice for 2 different math classes so trust this review. He makes complicated math so much easier for his students to understand. Dennis is very approachable and friendly. He has no problem answering any question you may have. Totally recommend taking any of his math classes!
Took Math 135 from him in Spr. 16. His project is very intimidating, and hes also nearly impossible to contact outside of class, as he doesnt respond to his emails. Overall, hes a nice person, but hes bad at teaching.
Professor Perusse is an amazing math instructor. Pay attention when going over math problems and do not be afraid to ask for help or see him during office hours. There's plenty opportunity for extra credit. Also, please be sure to pay attention to details (ie. equal signs, brackets, etc) he will deduct points.
Amazing. Understanding. Smart.
