Took the time to know/care about students. You succeeded unless you were lazy.
Lectures don't convey any useful information. Study textbook. Nice guy.
good job explaining... easy class, with help
Very attentive to students. He goes out of his way to help with hard topics.
SHOULD NOT BE TEACHING.
Excellent choice for the older, experienced student! I loved the class!!
Bright, relevant and cheerful!
Real world experience DOES make the difference! Dennis was wonderful!
Doesn't give up on students--and I hate accounting!! :)
Has the right skills, and a good sense of humor, too! :)
Participate and pay attention and you're all set!
The nightmare of 212 is over. Yaaay!
Stovall did an excellent job of relating and relaying information to the students. You could tell that he has "walked the walk". Much useful information from his many years as controller. I would most highly recommend him to anyone. He is th
It takes a while to get used to his style, but he is very helpful and always willing to explain concepts. Good at responding promptly to emails.
Professor Stovall was extremely responsive to me as a student. He wanted me to succeed, and did everything he could to encourage me to do well. Accounting is really not a wonderful topic for me, and the professor went out of his way to help.
I am so glad that i had him for this course otherwise i probably would have done aweful...very helpful on homework and gives plenty of extra credit...take him
An avg. prof. Gives good amount of homework, but grades easy, and lots of EC.
He's the man! Very nice and tells you exactly what's on the tests. Beginning of semester is hard, but hang in there for tons of extra credit and open-book tests.
He was an awesome professor. The class seemed like a lot of work at first but he was always willing to help. Go to class because he gave a lot of answers to homework, tests and quizzes. If the class average is high enough he will pay for a pizza party.
Excellente! He was a wonderful person who did a great job helping students who hated accounting. Stovall was fair, kind and just pretty darn enjoyable for an accounting prof!
You jes can't go wrong with D. Stizzle!
I barely passed 212 with another professor, but 213 was much better with Stovall! He's a great professor who is always willing to help. I actually LEARNED this time! He's great

Stovall is awesome! I had ACC 212 over two years ago, and thought it would be impossible. you definitely have to know your stuff to get an A though. He always brought in treats. Great guy!
Stovall is da man! He offers a lot of extra credit, but you probably wont need it because the exams are all multiple choice! Resembles Will Ferrell which makes for an entertaining time.
What can I say--two of the best semesters I ever had with a professor--and in an ACCOUNTING class! I hope Stovall sticks around Grand Valley and doesn't get hired away from another college--it would be a BIG loss for the department.
I agree wholeheartedly with the review below. Stovall was a teaching stud! If he was only a bit more hot....oh well, you can't have everything. I loved Stovall..he was EXCELLENT!
Very good teacher. Very well organized. Do the homework, go over the studyguides for tests and you can't go wrong with Stovall.
Very nice prof, and willing to help you. He knows that ACC is hard so gives you a break. Hw is difficult, but will definitely help you. GREAT CLASS!!
Great Teacher!
Excellent prof!!
Easy class. do HW = no problems. class is more like a social hour for him but just do what he asks and you'll be fine.
The best accounting teacher at Grand Valley!! Very helpfull! I was never good in accounting and I managed to get an A-!! Take him if you want a good grade in accounting! THE BEST!!
He was very energetic and fun. He gave away most of the answers to the homework and even some quiz answers, and told us exactly what to study for the exams. But you must participate and show up to pass! Always very helpful if you're struggling!
Perfect for a mature student--me! Stovall did a good job of interjecting humor and real life experiences into his class. He is a keeper!
i do NOT like stovall AT ALL! he is difficult, rude and does not care about his students! i will never take him again! DO NOT TAKE ACCT WITH STOVALL!!! YOU WILL ONLY REGRET IT!!!
I sit by the student who wrote the review below. Nothing but whining and stupidity. If you don't belong in college--go back to high school! Stovall is EXCELLENT, and cares for his students. He is a caring, warm and funny man.
Although Accounting was difficult for me, Stovall did his best to root me on through both of the classes in my program. He was cool enough to encourage me to consider a career in accounting--and showed me how I could handle it. Thanks!
Stovall rules--open minded to many styles of learning--gave me a second chance to succeed.
Wants to see students do well, but talks too much about grade inflation and how low his average grade should be. Tough subject at times but a good and helpful teacher, follow his suggestions.
kind of pompous.
HORRIBLE! there are much better profs for this class than him...
My roomate suggested him highly, however I had difficulty with material and he didn't really help clarify. Although with all the homework and in class assignments and he curves test you can make up for low test scores. Go to class and you can get extra credit points near the end of the semester.
There are only a few mature students who won't blame the instructor for their poor performance. Stovall is obvious about the material you should be studying. He is fair, very likeable, and easy to listen to. Thanks for an EXCELLENT class, Dennis!
Stovall was a WONDERFUL instructor. It seemed like he expected alot from students, but I think it was more that he wanted us to actually learn something from the class. Tough class!
He was nice---even tho' I was not into accounting or even very good at it. Very good at emailing help and for office hours. Quite cool once you got to know him. Don't skip class...youll pay!
Intimidating at first however a GREAT prof. Never Skip his class youll lose points. Makes everything easy as long as you go to class. TEsts are hard so study. HIghly recomend however if you arent willing to put in the effort dont bother siging up. "team punctual"
okay, so if you aren't willing to try hard and put in the effort, don't bother. this class was really hard, but do the work and make an attempt to learn. prof stovall was pretty nice and very entertaining. he didn't always clarify a lot. don't just copy the homework if he sends it. DO IT then check.
I thought he was one of the greatest teachers ever. He was very prompt with emailing you back with answers to any question. He didnt make you feel stupid and he was willing to change the way he said things to help you understand. I highly reccomend him!!!
Cool professor, he is very helpful when u don{t understand smth. He always replies to emails with answers to your questions. even if i was international student, i understood everything he said, and finally i got A, and he always curves the grades, it is very helpful.
VERY hard class, but teaches it very well. Even though he gives you answers to the hw and responds to your email, do things on your own if you want to pass and understand the material. Goes a little too fast sometimes. If you put in effort to learn, he is VERY helpful.
I hated this class!! It was very hard and the tests killed me. Make sure you go to class to get your points for the in class assignments. And make sure you do your homework. Only take this class if you are willing to put a lot of extra time into it.
Very good professor, easy to understand and there if you need help.
Great prof. He made the class seem like it was going to be very difficult at first, but it turned out to be fairly easy. If you do the homework each week, and show up on a regular basis, you should do very well in his class (studying for tests might help too). Take him if at all possible!!!!!!!!!!!!
If you can get Stovall, do it. He will do anything he can in order for you to understand the material. Show up to class and do the homework and you will do well in the class. I have him again for ACC 213.
One of GVSU's BEST! Makes a difficult subject easy. He gives great examples and makes class as fun as possible. Stovall is always willing to help. Only gives multiple choice exams... Great guy, great prof!
if you'll notice the only person that gave him a less than perfect rating was the person that abbreviated accounting as ACT. that say's it all.
He gets an A for effort, but sometimes it felt like he was TELLING instead of SHOWING how to do things. Class= hw, in-class quizzes & assignments, 3 tests (noncum final). Put in a bit of effort and sit back and laugh at the guy. Not bad:)
Stovall is great!!Such a funny guy,and an excellent prof.Makes ACC easier for people not in this major.Always willing to help.Do the HW because it is a huge part of your grade.Tests are all multiple choice, and not that bad as long as you go to class and read the book on occasion.
Excellent prof! Just do all the homework and it's impossible to fail. He's very willing to help with anything and explains everything very well.
I've had him for two classes... He's the man! I don't think anyone could make accounting this easy and this fun. He was always there to help and made us think logically about the problems. Highly recommend this guy!
Very easy, i didn't learn a thing though, he gives you all the answers to the homework so i never really learned it. If you come to class every day and do all the inclass assignments (which he gives you the answers to) you'll be fine, get high 60's low 70's on test, u'll get a B- at least
Stovall did a fansmabulous job with a hard class, especially for a 6 week summer class. He seemed equally kind and patient to men AND women, which in this "Barbie isn't good at math" world is a refreshing thing. He is not easy, but if you take the class seriously you will make it. Stovall offered many opportunities for help, which was cool.
extrememly hard professor. i dropped and took it with someone else who was much easier. he goes so fast through the material. i wouldn't recommend him.
Amazing prof. He's very clear about what he expects of us and what we should know. As long as you keep up with your homework and study for a couple of hours before the exams, an A is definitely possible, whether you love or hate accounting. Take him if you can!
he goes fast through the material. 1 chapter a week. he goes over every homework problem before its due so you don't really have to work if you don't want to, unfortunately. his review sheets are word for word and is prompt with responding to email and adding office hours

You have to go to class every time, don't miss it. That's the only draw back. He is EXTREMELY helpful and even if you don't have a clue what you are doing, just ask questions. EMAIL, he will help you out via email no problem!
I had Stovall for both 212 and 213. He is certainly not the easiest ACC prof, but he is always available to help--after class or on the email. Nice person and good humor, too!
goes through material quickly and isn't very clear/good with anwsering questions. he is available frequently although going and asking questions doesn't help much. test are near impossible. make sure the read all of the chapters, otherwise you'll do poorly in this class.
GREAT prof!! You put in a bit of effort and he will meet you more than halfway every time!! I believe that Stovall is the best in Seidman. Thanks, Professor Stovall!
I was terrified to take this class but Prof. Stovall made it actually enjoyable to go to class. Great sense of humor. I learned a ton! Take him if you have the chance!
Gives answers to hmwk so you can learn (and get full credit), in class quizzes are essentially free points and last class he took us to Adobe as farewell b/c half the class had him for 212. Take it as night class, you'll get breaks the day classes don't and you leave by 8 or 830. I got 70's on exams and passes with a B. Office hrs = points niceguy
Tough class with new concepts and applications for the non-accounting minded or Major student, but Stovall made it bearable, logical and interesting to even a non-accounting cretin like me. Tough class. Good instructor. He offered all students opportunity to succeed if THEY wanted to.
He is definitely one of the nicest professors at GV. Helpful, funny, and full of energy which made the class go by fast. Anyone who has no prior knowledge of accounting should take a class with him, he will be able to make the course understandable to you.
Great prof. If you put in the time you will do good. Test questions can be a little misleading, but they test your understanding of the subject and ability to apply it, as opposed to testing your memorization.
i don't know why, but i did not have the same experience as everyone else. i thought he was extremely hard. i have had acct before, but he was just confusing. he is not willing to help students. he doesn't care. i would not recommend him. take danko!
Stovall was WONDERFUL!! Best at GVSU. You have to work to earn your grade, so if you want to sluff off, go somewhere else, to Danko, perhaps. The student below didn't make sense--if they had accounting before, why retake it....the person below is either a liar or another jealous professor!!!
Stovall took over our class from a struggling instructor in 213. He was wonderful! He cared about student performance and needs.
I had Stovall for Spring of 06. He was very helpful and very clear about what he wanted. If you study and read the book you'll end up with at least a B. I got a B+ in the class and I enjoyed the class. Although it helps that I'm an accounting major, but I liked him as a professor and the fact that we always got out early in the night class!!!
Maybe the best professor at GV. This guy is amazing. I hate accounting, but somehow i took interest in it. Its not the easiest class but Stovall gives anyone the chance to succeed. If you got the chance, take this class with Stovall.
Stovall is an amazing accounting professor and it's obvious that he really wants his students to do well. He's good at explaining all the really complicated stuff you have to learn.
Good professor
Wow what a great prof. I was so nervous going into this class thought that I was going to fail. Do your homework and show up to class to get some extra credit assignments here and there. Very helpful via email, really wants you to get the most out of the class.
This class is supposed to be hard, but Stovall makes it simple. Homework graded on attempt :)... Reviews for tests are VERY helpful (he reads the questions from the actual test)...He also makes the class fun! I reccommend taking Stovall!!
Stovall is the man. I highly recommend him...for everything...even if he doesn't teach it...just take him.
A great professor. He is more than willing to answer any questions, in person, in class, or even through e-mail. He will work with any student to help them understand the material. Also very entertaining... had for a three hour class and it seemed to fly by.
Loved him. Hated the class but he is a great professor to take if you have to take ACC212. All homework is graded on effort and you do in-class assignments every week that you get credit just for being there.
Great Prof. He wants everyone to succede, and makes is possible. Go to class=get points Attempt homework=good grades Final was not cumulative=awesome TAKE HIM!
Amazing teacher! Very helpful, will help you with any problem even outside of class. Actually wants you to learn - lets you out early if you listen, tries to make it interesting and gives you lots of breaks. Take as a night class you will never go the full 3 hours (more like 1 hour). The class is hard, take this teacher or you wont do well!!!
I know I haven't had all of the other Professors but I'm sure he's the best accounting prof. you can have. He's so fair when it comes to your grade and the test aren't hard b.c he tells you most everything that is on them. He gives you many oppertunities to still do well in a more difficult class. I am taking him again for 213!
Stovall really is great at what he does. Very helpful, and very easy to pass. Take him!
Stovall was there to help me at every turn of the class. If you show the least bit of interest, he will guide you to do what you have to to make it through the class. Prepare for homework, in-class work, etc. Counts for credit, so it's all good!!
Very straight forward. No surprises. Stays on track and lectures are humorous and go by fast. Very approachable and wants everyone to succeed. Traditional and non-traditional student friendly.
I had nothing but trouble with this so called professor. He worked in accounting so he thought he had to try and teach it...bad idea! Very unclear, very non-humurous although he thinks he is...Stay away if you want to learn ANYTHING!
Even if you are not "great" in accounting, Stovall gives you the chance to succeed. He is quite generous with homework, quizzes, and in-class assignments. The problem is that you have to BE THERE, and actually act like a college student. You will not do well if you are lazy, and tend to blame the instructor for your shortcomings. Stovall rocks!
Great teacher. Very fun and entertaining but still a stern learning environment. He will answer any and all questions so if you don't get the material, ask! Attendence is highly looked upon but the class is so enjoyable, you don't want to miss out. Tests are fairly moderate but he reviews exact problems that are on them.
He's very good.
Good Prof. If you go to class you should get a good grade.
Great Professor, you complete the homework during class. Rarely have any outside class work. Class Attendance is mandatory though if you want a good grade
Stovall rocks. He gives you many chances to succeed in his class, no matter how good/bad you are at accounting (I'm usually terrible). He is very generous in grading and wants everyone to do well...and you can! I NEVER thought I'd do well in accounting, but I'm well above the class average & have actually learned something. GREAT prof!!!
I am an MBA student starting a new program. I never thought that I would consider accounting as a career. Stovall took the time to open up this field to me. He is a wonderful guy with a sweet disposition, and a terrible sense of humor!! I would recommend Stovall quite highly!
Stovall is the best prof I have had at Grand Valley. He keeps class interesting. He is very approachable, and is more than willing to help you understand the material. Answers emails quickly! Genuinely wants you to do well. Go to class, do the assignments and study the quizes, and you will do fine!
Stovall is the best professor ever! I would recommend him to anyone. His class is pretty easy as long and you learn the material, and he is always willing to help you or answer any questions you may have.
i LOVED stovall, i am taking on accouting along with HTM because of him. His class is challenging but he is extremely good at teaching it and helping you understand. Homework is graded on completion and STUDY HARD for his tests!
I really enjoyed having stovall as a prof. I heard good things before 212 and I agree with the good reputation, he is a great help and wants every student to learn accounting. He is funny, and knows not everyone is an accounting major (though I am). Show up to all classes and if u try and do wat he says u will do well
AWESOME PROFESSOR!! Took him for both 212 & 213, and whether you find accounting easy or hard...take STOVALL!! I was afraid of accounting at first and he made it simple and doesn't waste our time!!!
Where to being with Stovall...first off, all he does is read off the powerpoints, and skips majority of them in the process. If you didnt have him for 212, then he will hardly pay attention to your presence. I studied every night, read every chapter and still recieved a C-. STAY AWAY!!! He's the head of department and has no concept of how to teach
Person below clearly did not study every night. If he/she had, it would have been an easy A. Stovall works VERY hard to make sure every student understands the concepts. He gives review sheets for exams that cover everything. Homework is graded on completion. Quizzes are announced before-hand. Easy class if you focus & work hard! Go to office hrs!
Professor Stovall is a fantastic professor and one of my favorite profs at g.v. He has h.w. graded on completion, and easy quizzes, though his exams aren't super easy, but they make you learn the material. Unforunately, Stovall doesn't teach any upper level accounting classes. Take him for 212 and 213.
Excellent professor and person! Had to laugh at the rating below...Stovall is good, but NOT the head of the department. Evidently the person that wrote that did not have a clue....about accounting or anything else. I LOVED STOVALL, and would take him again if he taught anything else!! Peace!
I had to retake the class because of Danko and he taught it COMPLETELY different and he is AMAZING. He goes to great lengths to make sure everyone understands.
Stovall is a pretty good prof. He can have an attitude in his voice if you don't understand something though. I averaged C's on my exams and still got a B in the class because of easy homework and quiz points. Exams are HARD! Read the book even though its boring.
Stovall is sweet. Probably the best teacher I ever had. He has a sweet beard and says some pretty hilarious things once in a while. I do recommend. I kinda want to get my CMA after taking this class. He's helpful too
He is the man...Hands down the teacher to have for acc 212 and 213, only regreat is that I should have had him for 212 too...take the class closer to noon, he'll admit hes better after a few practice lectures haha
Prof Stovall is my favorite professor so far at Grand Valley. The course is hard in general but he helps where he can. He has students who have other professors come to him to help reexplain what their professor taught them. He is a veryy nice man, and trys to make the class fun. I strongly encourage taking Stovall
Stovall is a great man. He does everything he can do to help his students. The accounting classes are hard in general but because he gives quizzes and homework which are easy points your grade won't suffer. Highly recommended.
I hate Accounting. Imagine my surprise when I found this class to be not only bearable, but enjoyable, thanks to Stovall. If you attend class, he'll make sure you're prepared for the exams. Textbook is used a lot in class - newest version is needed. Exams are fair. Prof is interesting despite the materiel. Take him for ACC if possible. 10/10
Stovall is a great professor and is very fair. He cares a lot about the success of his students. If you do the homework and come to class, you will succeed.
I'm not an acct fan, but Stovall made it fun, interesting and clear. I definitely recommend him!
Great Prof. He expects you to attend class and do your homework. If you come to class you will do very well in the class. Most def. recommend.
Take him for any accounting class you can! Extremely nice and helpful. Attend class everyday and a good grade should be no problem.
great guy, nice, personable. Hw is given to you. you get 50% on quizzes just for being there. Not too demanding. Study and its do-able. Hard subject and he makes it bearable
Great guy. Tell jokes about how lonely he is to help explain problems which is funny at first then makes you sad. Very clear on what to expect on exams and does credit no credit for homework. So just do the work and passing the class shouldn't be a problem. He is also an amazing bowler.
Funny guy, makes Accounting much more interesting! Definitely one of the easier and more helpful professors. Exams can be tough but the quizzes and in class assignments are easy and will boost your grade. I'd definitely take him again
For Acc 310, Stovall's job was to prepare us for not only Acc 311 but for the real world. Therefore, there was a lot of reading and research we had to do in order to be prepared. He was always willing to help, but the course content was certainly challenging (hw, quizzes, research papers) and the exams were brutal. Overall great Professor!
Really nice and responds to email promptly. Usually went over what we needed to know for quizzes/test (theres only 1 test) You use seaside the whole semester and some of it's tricky but he's more than willing to help. Overall nice professor I would recommend him.
Responds to email very fast, also helpful in class. Quizzes and the exam were pretty straightforward and easy given a couple hours of studying.
Taking 212 with Stovall was really easy, but not without reading the book. He gives you the questions to the quizes and tests before hand, which makes studying easy. You do, however, have to read in the book because he is not thourough when explaining the material. He assumes you already know the basics of it and he just reviews on it a little.
stovall is nice, but very strange. He tries to make us feel bad for him more then he teaches. Prepare to read text book and teach yourself.
Professor Stovall is awesome. He knows what he is talking about and is willing to go through any problems on the board. Great professor. Tests can be a bit difficult, but if you put in the time to study the handouts and quizzes, you will do fine.
Nice person...terrible Professor. Yes he does give us hints to what will be on the test/quizzes, however, he does not make sure we fully understand the material. I would NOT recommend him to anyone nor take him again!
Excellent instructor!! You could only do poorly if you were incredibly lazy!! Love Stovall!!
Stovall is a great professor! He's a really nice & chill guy when you get to know him. Some students need to realize that he doesn't hand hold because he wants you to learn quickly but he is always willing to help if you need it. This is college guys you should expect no hand holding. But again he's a good prof and I recommend him 100%! peace out
I hated accounting before I took accounting with him. He teaches everything in a way that is so easy to understand. He is very clear about what will be on the exams. Homework is easy, and you can get 100% on it if you just put an hour a week into it. Awesome prof.
I had 213 & 240 with Stovall, and I've got 310 with him next semester. You won't find a more helpful Accounting professor in college, so if you see complaints on here those people are slackers that shouldn't be in Accounting at all. Homework for 213 is through Connect and an 85% is required but counts as full credit. READ the book and COME to class
Class uses an online program called Seaside Marina. It's similar to fundamentals of accounting. Pace yourself with working with Seaside and you'll do alright. Pretty easy class and the instructor is a super nice guy and does a great job. He's humorous and does a good job making you feel comfortable...something that many GV Acc profs don't care for.
very intense class, lots of weekly homework assignments and quizzes. Definitely a class that requires commitment, hours of study outside class, tutoring and I can do attitude!. He is extremely helpful though outside classroom and provides you with the necessary tools to succeed. I had him for both ACC212 and ACC213, worth my money! I learned a lot
Stovall makes the class fun and entertaining and has a sense of humor about things. He gives out through reviews so you know exactly what to study for quizzes and exams.
He tries to intimidate you at the beginning of the semester by saying that if you fail one assignment you should drop the class. I failed the first assignment and ended with a 90% at the end of the term... Class is easy if you don't procrastinate Seaside. Just keep emailing him to check your answers and he ends up giving you the answer key.
Very nice, funny guy. Accounting wasn't my thing, but he made the class very enjoyable. Homework can be a little tedious at times. Tells you exactly what you need to prepare for quizzes/exams. Definitely would recommend.
Best accounting prof in the school. Explains everything very well. Homework is onlince(connect). Gives you practice sheets that actually help you on the exam. Exam are average not to easy not to hard. Plus a test review the class before the test. If you are lucky enough to get him for any accounting class, I highly recommend.
Great professor Really takes his time to make sure you understand the material. You do have to read the chapters and you have homework and quizzes on each chapter but you can do a lot of it in class to make sure you are ready for the tests. Tests are difficult but if you attend class do the homework and read you should be just fine
He is a good Prof. Very helpful handouts. Does his hardest to prepare you for exams. Easy grader for the papers
Doesnt teach. You have to teach yourself!!! ALSO he makes you write papers and does have a rubric for you to follow so when you get a back grade you never know what you did. He will not to work on the board and also tough grader on test!
Stovall is probably the easiest professor I've had. He's the easiest grader on written assignments, and tells you EVERYTHING that will be on exams. Also will basically walk you through homework step-by-step in class. Just show up to class and he will tell you everything you need. I got 395-400 points in his class and hardly did anything.
This professor is way overrated, mostly because he is easy. He is not a good lecturer and half the time would never even teach a topic. He just passes out handouts that were sample multiple choice questions, gives us the answers, and the same Qs show up on exams so students are happy. I didn't learn much in this class and would not recommend him.
He isn't the best of worst prof I've had. I took him for the Spring semester and it was hard to get motivated. Quizzes are in class and you get 100% for being there so DON'T SKIP. Homework is pretty wast 85%+ you get full credit. His exams are tough since we had no writing portion it was 30-35 multiple choice
Grading criteria is laid out. The online portion of this class is poorly built, but it's not Stovall's fault. He understand student frustrations, and is willing to check work before it's due. Knows a lot about accounting & jobs in the field. He's a funny guy, and seems to genuinely care. His handwriting is horrible, but he knows that. Rec. for 240
I think he was very helpful. I took a summer class so the material was pretty fast paced, but I'm doing way better than in 212. Do the homework and stay after class to talk with him for any help you need. He replies to all emails and I emailed him regularly. Great prof for sure.
Stovall is the best! I wish he taught 311 too. He goes through the entire exam with you the day before the exam and tells you exactly what to expect. No surprises. Easy grader, but classes are pretty boring. You go through a powerpoint and then worksheets. Occasional quizzes (generally 1 a week). Take this prof if your GPA needs a boost!
He's a nice guy, pretty easy, but a terrible teacher. He doesn't explain any new topics, has never written a single thing on the board. All he does is give handouts, lets you struggle through them, gives you all the answers and then puts the same problems on the exam. Easy to slide through the class without really understanding the topics.
Stovall is such a nice guy, but he doesn't 'teach' 310. Gives handouts, provides answers, but its on you to comprehend and understand. Fast to respond to email, but again, leaves you to your own vices. Also homework is due before the chapter is ever 'taught'. Most material is new, and unclear. 310 is designed to weed out students, it weeded me out.
It's true - Dennis doesn't spoon-feed you the information, but he does clearly tell you what material will be covered when it comes to exam time and many of the questions come straight from his handouts. Stop complaining and start studying. This is a "weed-out" for a reason.
Dennis is a great professor! Funny guy and keeps the class engaged. His tests are somewhat tough just make sure you don't fall behind and really understand the material and you'll do fine. He gives out a decent amount of extra credit as well jsut make sure you go to all the classes.
Lectures can get confusing, but he answer any questions so you just have to put in effort. He doesn't teach much of the material so a lot of the learning must be done on your own. I spend 10 hours a week outside of class learning independently.
He expects that you remember what you learned from previous accounting courses so be prepared. He doesn't lecture very often so it's more of a learn for yourself class, be sure to find a good group to work with if you have questions. If you do the work, you should pass.
Stovall didn't teach much but this class was more for self learning so not much needed to be taught. The program you use "Seaside" took a long time to finish but it really helped me with journal entries. Stovall is a funny guy and I would recommend you take any of his other accounting classes too. There is no textbook but the program was $30.
This is Stovall last time teaching ACC 310. He really doesn't teach the subject. Gives out handouts, provides the answers, and the same questions show up on the exams. Provides a test review before each exam and the answers to test questions during it. His teaching method leaves you woefully unprepared for ACC 311. It's an easy A.
Worst teacher at GVSU. Cancels class often, leaves early, never available during office hours. Doesn't teach anything. Rude and condescending, says ask questions, you as a question he gets irritated... Will not prepare you for 311.
He never actually taught anything. The most he did was write a few equations on the board. Expected students to teach themselves. Cancelled class at least once every two weeks. He is a horrible professor.
I personally really liked Stovall. The course was a more learn on your own type, but I do really well with that. He cancels class all the time and gives out a ton of extra credit- I ended the semester with over 100%. He gives out many helpful handouts, I also learned from him, so it def wasn't a total blow off- I suggest him!
Stovall definitely treats this like the weeder class that it is.. He doesn't put a lot of effort into teaching, so be prepared to teach yourself. Exams are mostly quiz questions though, so it's not hard to pass. Overall, an okay class/professor.
This was one of the easiest classes I've taken at GV and it was an accelerated summer course. He does in-class quizzes that you get full credit for being present for, lets you use notecards for exams, gives out extra credit, cuts class super early, and is an overall nice guy. Only bad thing is that you need to read the book and teach yourself.
Wonderful teacher. Great class and easy. He was very willing to help you figure out the answers to most all of the problems.
You could get an A in this class easily. Professor Stovall is not very exciting, but has some great one-liners. He offered our class a good amount of ExCredit. Gives you a notecard to use on tests. But is not super specific about what exactly is going to be on the test. My scores are very fluctuated. Super nice guy. Seems just ready to retire.
The best professor i have had at gvsu.
Dennis cares about his students. I am not an Accounting major, and he made it really easy for me to follow along and pass this class. Highly recommend, especially if you aren't going to go into this field.
I liked him a lot. He went through assignments in class and was always willing to give more explanation if asked. He is really clear on what will be on exams & lets you use a note card. He's funny & a nice guy. He doesn't waste time so the class gets through whatever you need to do, you get out early.
Professor Stovall is a nice, funny guy, and knows his stuff about accounting. If you have no future with accounting, I cannot recommend this guy enough. His tests are based off the book, and during his reviews, he practically gives you the answers to like half the questions. He wastes no time during his lectures, so you always get out early.
Stovall was by far my favorite professor this year, he is funny and always willing to help out when you need it. Goes over almost every question before the exam and you are allowed to use a notecard on every exam. Did not really learn much in this class but if you are just looking for an easy class, this is the guy to take.
Classes are very short & to the point. He tells you exactly what you need to know and then makes the class practice an example so you really understand the material. Prepares you incredibly well for tests and gives you a note card. Going to class helps you get extra random bonus points. Even if you get 80s on tests you can still get an A. Best prof
He's not the greatest teacher but you can still do good in the class. If you go to class he gives extra random bonus points. Class is straight to the point and he tells you exactly what is gonna be on the test. You also get a notecard for the tests. No quizzes, regular amount of homework so bad overall. Can still do good if you don't get ACC.
Amazing teacher. I usually get B's and C's but I got an A- in the class. He isn't the best teacher but you learn the basics. Wish he was my prof for every class.
Awesome professor! He doesn't waste your time. Show up for the quizzes and that's an automatic 100%. He doesn't make anything more complicated then it needs be. He goes over the exam the day before the exam and you get to use a note card. Take this class!
Dennis gives you all the answers for Seaside Marina if you have attempted the work, he makes it very clear. He will help you individually to work out your issues. Very straightforward, Easy A. I would highly recommend him if you dont clearly understand financial accounting yet.
Not a great teacher, but will provide you with helpful hints to the Seaside Marina project, which is what this course is except for the final exam. Would take him again for this course, he is there as moderator to answer any questions & that's about it. However, would not recommend him as a teaching professor.
If this is for a minor or a major where you won't actually ever use accounting, take this. He's super hard to understand but if you can teach yourself the basics through his power points you'll get an A. Had him for a 3 hour class and he only lectured for a half hour every time. His study guides are very much like the tests.
He is a great guy, but not a very good teacher. If you are an accounting major I would not recommend taking him. If you are not take his class for an easy B. He lets you out early every day and pretty much gives you the answers to the tests.
