Funny guy...if you pay attention in class, he comes right out and tells you what will be on the test. If you study what he says, you will most likely get an A.

He is the most favorite teacher I have ever had. You will really enjoy his teaching style if you like a little laughter with your learning. If you are a all about the books then he is not the teacher for you. He fully prepares you for his tests and you will gain a lot of knowledge. Yes he talks about life at UofM and family but he's human!

He is easy if you pay attention. And here's a tip-if you come to class on a test day and no one else shows, you get an automatic A on your test. He also gives out bonus points for being in class. If you go and you listen at least a little, you will ace it. Who cares if he is Morman? Who ever said that is wrong.

He is a GREAT Instructor! If you come to class, listen to lectures, take notes, and read the chapters, you will succeed in the class. He keeps the class interested using personal experiences with his lectures. He is very fair and easy to talk to if you have any problems. I HIGHLY recommend him!!

Great professor, FULL of energy, comes to class ready to lectures.. gives out extra bonus points, drops some tests, lets you out early if the weather is nice :) Overall, nice man!

Yes, he talks about his family and friends, but that is how he relates everything to what you are learning. He explains the technical terminology in real everyday terms that the majority can understand. Just pay attention, he is a very good, upbeat teacher. Don't Kill the Messenger, blame the author.

Outstanding prof! his personal stories enhance the book matierial and makes the prof. approachable and relatable. Even after attending U of M in A2, I have to say that he remains a favorite teacher. (I am a bit bias though because i could relate to his personality and was looking for a great teacher at that point in my life & academic career)

I don't know why but I always wanted to meet his family members, they seemed so interesting. His wife came by once, but I didn't get a glimpse. Great teacher though. I not only got an A but also a + sign next to it :)

never mind the butt that called him a biggot. shut up in class and listen!!! very easy to pass his class. if u come on test day and every one misses you get an "a" on that test. talks about his family alot and relates it to things in the book which helps u remember on the test. he does not always return emails but easy to get on the phone. NICE GUY

I havent been at HFCC for a while but I was curious what reviews my old professors are getting. I did have Underwood so I thought id comment. I loved being in his class. He was very interesting to listen to. He had alot of good stories and spoke very deeply on his family life. This was my favorite Professor at HFCC.

Warning: If you cannot take essay type questions on a test DO not take his class. Every other week there are 5 essay questions from two chapters, which you have no idea what they might be. It's very stressful with this many tests in one semester.

Very energetic, very nice, very easy to get ahold of if you have a problem.And its about time that a teacher says if he hears anything other then english during a test you are droped from the class....ABOUT TIME! loved him i would recommend him to anyone!

Dr. Underwood is awesome! He's so cool that I took another one of his classes just for the hell of it. I highly recommend him. Ignore the negative comments. I think those people just arent smart enough to get good grades so they just blame the teacher. :)

Ah, Mr. Underwood. Don't get me wrong, he's extremely nice and down to earth and by far his class was the easiest A i ever received. However, i did not learn a thing about Psych, and yes he did talk about his personal life wayyy too much. Also, attendance wasn't mandatory [which i found out later in the semester] i thought lectures were boring.

Good clear concise, not what iw ould have focused on for an intor pysch class, but i think that has more to do with the class structure then the teacher themselves. Very willing to help or reschedule tests and papers if you have real life issues. He also is great if you have a learning disability or are ADD.

Highly Recommended! Buy the study guide and use it, though. I took it in the spring, easy A. Yes, he talks about his family ALOT but he wants you to get an A is very nice and understanding and real. He does give you chances to make up work missed because of life issues. Attendance is not mandatory. Tests given on scantrons. Some short easy essays.

Dennis is a great teacher--but I can understand why some may find his teaching style frustrating. Many may be accostumed to a certain type of teacher--one who doesn't relate the material to real life or one doesn't want you to think critically about the material. But, Dennis was great for me because I wanted a prof who wasn't displaced from reality

I think he was a very good professor, who loves his job. Homework was easy,but tests were some what difficult. I enjoyed listening to the stories about his family.

He does talk a lot about his family and his life, however it was a pretty easy class if you could ignore that. Tests also very easy (all scantron) buy the Study Guide it was very helpful for me. HE also happens to be very compassionate and understanding. That is of course once you get past the initial oddness LOL still like him though

U have to love Dennis, u will never find a more compassionate teacher, go with the flow its only a intro class, relax. come to class and he will give u x-tra credit. what else could you ask for.

He's the best, throw away all your rigid rules and learn about life through experiences. Students who dont like him are proned to have to follow step by step instructions book worms! He's very wise, all u need is an open mind.

It amazes me that anyone would complain about Dennis, all u have to do is come to class and u will pass. As far as him talking about his family in class, what do u think he's trying to do? make u think outside the box! DUH! Life is not going to be mutiple choice for ever!

Pretty easy class. He tells you everything that will and will not be on the test right out of the book and his grading is pretty lenient. He takes the highest test score of the class (which was usually pretty low in my class) and bases your percentage off that, it's not hard to get an A on the tests you just have to read the assigned chapters.

Almost done with my summer semester of taking Psy 131..Class went by really fast, other than that I really enjoyed this class, we used the book each class session. He is always very clear about what will and will not be on the exams...The exams are very easy (as long as you study)...Overall, this has been one of my favorite classes so far!

As with any class, don't expect to get everything you need to know from lecture, you have to read the book too. He's one of the nicest most entertaining people you will meet and he rewards those who give a valid effort. Took his class at 6:30 am for Intro and it was the highlight of my day on Tues and Thurs. He's awesome!

Denis is an amazing teacher. He is willing to help on any assignment and is the kind of teacher I would take for anything. In fact I took social issues in sports just because it taught it and I hate sports! Loved this class, he even let me bring my child in when I needed to! He is amazing! TAKE HIM!!!!!! A man who inspires! Take Him! Take Him!

Amazing Professor. Very helpful. Very kind. My cousin took him for psych 131 and her whole class retook him for 253. He walked in looking puzzled. If that does not show what a great teacher he is I don't know what does. I took his class and all I did is the the recommended chapters and I either set the curve or got in 2nd place.

Great professor... I started panicking from all the bad comments I have read when I started class but it's absolutely nothing like that... If you attend class everyday and study(need to memorize a lot of info)you will pass with an A if you give it your all... aaawwweesome professor.. laid back.. not to crazy about being late to class

extermly nice guy, even though he favored women and did not prefer his male students, i still enjoyed his class it was a saturady class and it wasnt that bad, REALLY cares about students grads.

He's very compassionate and cares about everyone. Really has tons of experiences and is willing to share funny stories. You really need to concentrate in class and ask if you don't understand anything. He will stop lecture to explain or answer anything and make you feel better. Treated everyone the same.

By far the best teacher I have ever had. He is one of the most caring and good hearted teachers I've ever had. He is very clear and will answer any questionS to the best of his knowledge.

Great teacher, but talks entirely too much about his family and personal life. He does enjoy listening to himself. Class is very easy. He will work with you if failing. Super guy! I do encourage for those who are taking psychology to have him as your teacher.

He is the first teacher I had at HFCC. (Summer 09)I am almost done with the RTH program now and no teacher I've had has even come close to being as good as he is. He is a very nice man and a great teacher. You will learn about the subject and maybe learn something about yourself, too. Also, he doesn't use PowerPoint like other boring teachers do.

Mr. Underwood is a terrific professor. He is very straightforward with what he expects from his students. I've taken seven other psychology courses and I can honestly say this was my favorite thus far. Besides the material, he also talks about himself which is a nice change of pace. I recommend this professor to anyone interested in psychology.

Awesome doesn't come close to describing Mr. Underwood. He knows his stuff and if you go to class, participate, and do your assignments you shouldn't have a problem. He's the best! You'll come away wth a clear understanding of the subject which you'll use throught your career.

Professor underwood is a good teacher; although, he went on and on about his family and tried to connect that to psychology, I passed. If you study and read the chapters you will be fine. Don't skip his class you will miss something that is on the test

Mr. Underwood is a great teacher. Had him for 253. Gives amazing lectures and cares deeply for his students. Class is really easy. we did not really use the book. Assignments are clear and easy. I think the class and myself needed to show him more respect. Overall, would recommend to students.

I absolutely enjoyed Professor Underwood. He such a sweet heart. He takes his jobs serious I wish I all of my teachers were like him. I had him for Psy 253 in the Fall of 14' I didnt pass because I simply didn't apply myself but for the winter of 15' I passed with an A. I definitely recommend him hands down!!!!! H e wants everyone to get an A.

Professor Underwood was great. Don't worry about taking notes because all of his lectures are stories from his life. You do have to read the book in order to pass. Gives homework assignments that boost your grade and they are simple. He did also offer extra credit if you donated blood. Super Easy A if you know how to read a textbook.

Professor Underwood is hands down the BEST professor I have ever had. He is so funny, sweet, nice, caring, and extremely helpful. His class is the type of class one actually enjoys going to. His exams are super easy if you read the topics he talks about in class. He's perfect. 300 characters are not enough for me to fully explain how amazing he is.

He's a really good professor, he tells you what you need to know and what's on the test he'll tell you when to skip information if it's not important. He really cares about the students that are there to learn. Very understanding to outside situations that might affect your attendance. Hes willing to work with you if you don't understand.

Underwood is a VERY nice guy whos incredibly passionate about both psychology and teaching. He gets off-track in his lectures, but the stories he tells are interesting and will help you remember the information. His class is easy as long as you outline the chapters, and if you get an a in his class you dont have to take the final.

Best professor. He tells you what to expect. Read the book to get a further understanding and you're set. EXTRA CREDIT! Answers any questions. Participation and listening really help. He tells stories about his life, but they somehow relate to the lecture. Great professor and would 100% take again.

I would love to take him again. You have a quiz about every week or two. He gives a couple of essays but they are non-traditional. If you have an A at the end of class you do not need to take final. If your grade on final is higher than grade atm it becomes your new grade. He gives out extra credit and is super happy to help and caring.

Prof. Underwood is a great teacher. He uses examples from his life to help us understand what we're learning better. Everything is directly from the textbook, so if you take notes and study, you'll pass. His grading scale says that everything above a 90 is an A. If you have an A you don't take the final. seriously take him. he's great.

He is so easy and literally, everyone passed. But if you are majoring in Psy then take someone else bec you barely learn in his class. HE is so nice tho and is always storytelling. If it's just a class to get out of your way, then take him!!

Professor Underwood has been absolutely amazing! His class is so fun and I look forward to his classes every week! he is inspirational and in every section he teaches he always has a life lesson or story to go along with it :) His class is mostly papers and quizzes which are easy if you follow the reading and the book. 10/10 recommend this class

This was probably the easiest class you could take here. It almost feels like a lecture class, he talks about his life a lot so if you are a psych major I wouldn't recommend it. We only used the book for two assignments. He does read from the textbook but you can just take notes from the class and you'll do just fine. Plus he passes everyone!

This is by far the easiest class you will ever take! he mostly just talks about himself but it always relates to the unit we are taking. He will answer any question you have thoroughly. and also tests are SUPER easy!!!!

Professor Underwood is one of the nicest Professors I have taken! I took his class online due to covid and I can honestly say if this class was in person I would look forward to attending it. I did meet with him via zoom one time and he was very personable! If you need to take psychology I highly recommend professor Underwood.

Had to take this class online. It's not a easy class lots of reading, lots of re-reading, lots of researching, and minor reports. Gives great feed back so you know where to correct yourself if need be. Just following along with all given instructions, it's no reason you won't do great.
