Class was good, Just plan on taking a lot of field trips!
Test are extremely difficult and confusing, taken straight from the book and barely covered in class. Has no understanding for students problems or complications. Very knowlegeable about the subject but expects the same from 100 level students.
Hard class
very knowledgable, however as stated previously, tests are extremely difficult, and don't seem to relate well to the material covered. Very easy to understand, though. Lecture was enjoyable.
Very difficult teacher, test did not match up with the lectures. Lectures were not vey interesting. This teacher talks way over your head and would leave you lost.

This was by far one of the best proffesors that I have had. The field trips can be exhausting but well worth it. Wilson expects you to go the extra mile, but he is willing to help along the way. Wish he taught something else other than 181!!
Tests are very difficult and don't match the lectures at all. Labs run the full length and don't ever think your getting out early. He expects everyone to be as excited about bio as he is and if you don't show that you are, your grade WILL reflect!
This class took a lot of studying. There aren't very many assignments until the end of the semester. Tests make up a big portion of your grade. If you study hard and pay ALOT of attention to details, you should be able to do well.
Dennis is a really cool guy. Go on the firld trip instead of doing a project. It will be worth your weekend.. If you love Biology then you must take his class. His class is hard. Grade is based on exams. They are multi choice but worded tricky. Take good notes. Look up some practice exams. You should enjoy his lectures with his english accent.
He will pull a fast one on you and make sure you study so dang hard for his test. alot of people dropped from his class. He is a nice guy but he wont budge an inch. He is not easy and his test are off the wall hard. I am talking that a few test the average grade was a 56%
He is a very good teacher. He really knows his stuff. He works very hard to make the class fun, every lecture is unique and interesting. I would recommend this teacher to anyone. If you want to actually learn, this is the teacher for you. If you are just looking for an easy A, move on.
Good but very hard teacher - test don't always match what is taught in class - likes the girls is a little easier on them - heard he dated some
Not interesting and he is not clear on what he wants. He told us to write a research paper, about 10 pages long, and I wrote a 22 page paper and got an A on it. He then stated that was what he wanted. Doesn't stick to the syllabus, at all!!
Dennis Wilson is a fantastic teacher for anyone wanting to know more about their enviroment. His tests are challenging, but studying definitely pays off. He gets a bit political at times, but most teachers do. I reccomend this class to anyone needing a few extra credits!
Very horrible at providing what information is needed for a test. Also, providing what to study for needed material. Nothing was provided for us to work on or learn.
Horrible. stated no one can get an a in his class. he taught lab for my class. was a split between him and justin york who was great! wilson was unreasonable, worst experience and ruined the class.
Dr. Wilson is a good teacher. His lec and labs are fun. He's approachable and engaging. He is actually really clear on what's expected. It helps to read BEFORE lecture. Do that and you'll be good. This is a Majors course-you should expect to study and Dr. Wilson tells you off the bat that's what you should do in order to do well.
Worst teacher yet. Lectures 1.5hrs then crams in 4 different labs in the next 1.5hrs. Lecture hard to understand -british accent. Don't know how he got degree in US as he can't speak or spell correctly. Tells you will give extra credit or he'll do something... then says "I never said that." and whole class is like, yes you did. Tests are essays ?'s
Great teacher, loves to teach. My ONLY complaint was that some of the questions are tests are worded very tricky, so even if I understood the content it was difficult to select the best choice. Could just be me. He really takes time with students and explains things when necessary. Really good teacher.
Says he expects u 2 get info from powerpt, his talking, & read btwn the lines. Test essay ?'s & don't match up to lectures. He expects & crams way too much info into one class. No break solid 3hrs. Wilson is unreasonable, worst experience, and ruined the class. Have been doing count down until semester is over, as many other students in class.
Dr. Wilson very interested in teaching biology, and tries to teach students study skills as well. Doesn't always go over things claerly. His exams are essay style, but not too hard. Not the easiest grader. Believes grade is in students hands. Knows a lot about his field. His english accent is kind of cool as well.Should take good notes and study
Great professor! I would recommend to anyone. I took his BIO 181 class back in 05? Very engaging teaching style. Learned a lot. Had a lot of fun. Actually am interested in desert plants now thanks to him. He loves this stuff and gets you to love it too. Take his class.
Hard class, He's great fun, great teacher.
This class was one of the most dissapointing I've ever taken. The teacher wasn't clear about any assignments and he expected you do formulate everything without help, which was very misleading. It is very hard to pass the class becasue he will mark you off points on test for no apparent reason. I would just avoid this professor over all if you can!
A lot of people complained about this class, but thats because they weren't paying attention. If you pay attention and take good notes, Dr. Wilson gives great, interesting lectures and you learn a TON. He takes interest in teaching study skills as well as his subject. Great teacher.
Hard class. He knows he's stuff. From a student point of view, be prepared to study. Its fast paced. Exams are hard.I was straight A student, until this class. Do at least CHM 151 before you do this class. Alot of students drop out.
Hard class. Not clear on what he wants. Lab quizzes before each lab which is fine..however if you answer one of the questions he asks exactly how it appears in the lab material if its wrong information he expects you to know that. Cant know what you DONT know.. DUGH. Unclear about what chapters are being discussed and not helpful when you ask.
he keeps the topic interesting. shows videos for a better understanding of biology "the cell". also shares his experiences with the class "bungi jumping" and how its related to the topic of studies.
absolutely the worst teacher i have ever had, i am a hard working student who has had many professors and he was terrible, i worked extremely hard and got a low grade. Be prepared to 50% of your day studying and receiving an undeserving grade. DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER!
This guys class is insane. Hes a good teacher yada yada but his tests are nuts and thats your whole grade. class averages on test were around 58%(60 questions/50mins!) on one and barely higher on the last. talked to a lot of the students personally who studied for hours (including myself)and scored low test scores.take this class with someone else!
Enviro BIO is taught very differently, he tests you on what you know rather than what you don't.you take a essay answer test to explain your answer rather than a multiple choice test. I always felt challenge and had no problem receiving and giving respect to him. Although I did work my ass off to get a good grade I loved listing to his stories.
baaaad! teacher. retaking this class in summer school thanks to his unfair grading. Lab was frustrating never in sync with lecture. everyone gets low test scores :( no curved grades. no bueno
I truely loved his teaching styles! He always kept everybody on our toes but wasn't afraid to slow things down and answer any questions you may have. He's also willing to meet with you 1-1 to help with any problems you may be having personally. BEST TEACHER!
If you're an EDU major, I strongly encourage you to take this class. I walked away with more teaching strategies than you can imagine. Be flexible and open minded,I'm an older student and I was hiking in the field and gathering lab samples from places that most only see in textbooks. I'm an Honor Student and not a slacker, I earned a "B".
I really enjoyed this class but it was very hard. The tests were worded very tricky. I studied a lot and always thought I knew the material but just did ok on the tests. But lectures were good and I learned a lot. He's willing to help if you make the effort to see him before or after class.
Hard tests. He makes you think. Don't just pick an answer because it's right, you have to be sure you pick the one that is most correct. He has high expectations of his students. He is fun to listen to, and helpful when you have questions. Just hard tests.
He is a really nice teacher; the average test grades were really low, so you really have to study!! He is way to pushy on plagarism!!! I am not sure what my grade is yet all because i apparently plagarized on a Chapter summary, not a report or anything! if you plagarize then he most likely fails you!!
Mr. Wilson is a fantastic teach! The class is hard thus far but I look forward to pushing myself. Ps it doesn't hurt that he is attractive. I'm just saying... Lol
This class is hard. Mr. Wilson really takes time to work with those who are slower learners. It does not hurt that he is hot either.
Dennis is an amazing teacher. He gives lectures that are interesting, his powerpoints explain everything you need to know, and he even tells you what exactly to study and when to start studying. If you got anything less than an A, you obviously didnt DESERVE an A because you didnt take the time to help yourself. tests can be tough if you dont study.
Dr. Wilson is the best 181 teacher you can get. He teaches at a level that will prepare you for future courses unlike other teachers who just hand it to you. The effort required for this class is absolutely worth it. His passion for the material carries over and if you like science, this teacher is a must.
Very "metro" in his dress and was probably cute when he was young. Dr. Wilson: Come out, come out wherever you are! Just B U!!! We love U anyway!
holds study groups before test and has take home test as well as open note test.
Dr. Wilson was amazing! He likes students to ask questions and will help students understand the material. Tests are hard but if you study, ask questions, and take DETAILED notes, you'll be fine :) I passed with a B and didn't do so well on his lecture tests. Lab is a lot of fun and he's a great teacher. Utilize his office hours if you need help!
First, anything "nice" you read on here about Wilson was probably written by the pretentious and arrogant man himself. Second, his tests are filled with errors and surprises. No matter how much you study, you're still not oging to be prepared. If you've a bad feeling about this professor, trust your gut and get out! Save your GPA from this BRIT!
If you think Dr. Wilson's class is too hard...you might be retarded. He's an amazing teacher that is very passionate about biology. I worked my ass off but learned more than my friends in other 181 classes. Not an 'easy A'...but a rewarding one.
The class material is a little difficult to understand but if you pay attention and SHOW UP to class the material isn't so bad but you really have to study and take a lot of notes. I passed with a B even with getting C's and a few D's on the lecture exams. Definately take the lab quizzes!
It had been 6 years since I took any form of college class. I found this class to be very difficult to start with, but after a few weeks I grew to really enjoy this class. Wilson works hard to teach students study skills. If you are going to take 201 you NEED to take this class and PAY attention. If you pass his class 201 and up are much easier!
Wilson, a great person. But his style of teaching is basivally him ASSUMING you know everything from 181. His tests are insane.. I failed all of them. I had note cards and attended EVERY class studied alot and everything I studied none of it was on the exam.. its more of a problem soving biology question. DID NOT LIKE HIM!! SWITCH IF POSSIBLE
DON'T TAKE! I'm an A student, but this class changed that for me and many others in the class. You can put in a lot of work and it will get you nowhere. Tests are extremely hard and tricky. Nice guy, but not worth the GPA drop.
By far the worst professor I have come across. He does not review the tests with you in class and does nothing to help you understand what you missed on the exams. Grades are not kept up to date. In the lab, he makes you draw everything and grades you on how well you draw. If you want to pass, do not take this teacher.
I took Dr. Wilson for two of his classes this semester. This professor is by far one of the best I have had. The COURSE ITSELF(BIO182)is difficult, sorry all you lazy people who complain about difficulty. He is lively, personal, attentive to students, and truly wants his students to grow their critical thinking skills.
A really good teacher! He is passionate about his topic. Also he helped me so much! He makes the class interesting and fun! I really recommend him especially if you are going to take BIO 182.
If you re not ready for a real college class and the reality of life, do not take this class. Great professor who gives you all the info you will need to pass IF YOU USE IT. Class will not be easy if you do not apply yourself. Fun guy who tries to make the dry material interesting.
Awesome and passionate about environmental bio but not pushy about it. Great eye opener. Can not say enough about the subject matter or the teacher. As long as you put in the time and effort you will pass his classes, not easy A's... earned A's.
Dennis Wilson is probably the worst teacher I've ever had. I've always been a straight a student and even in this class I had the highest score on 2 or the 3 tests, but still got a b. which, by the way, those three tests were the only assignments we had all semester. That, and they didn't even relate to his lectures.
This professor is by far one of the best professors I have ever had. I had him for 181 and 182. The class is not easy but if you study and follow directions, you'll do well. Wilson does not GIVE anything, like a bad grade, you earn the grade you deserve. Which makes personal success all the more gratifying. He is passionate, helpful, and fair.
Dennis is an awesome teacher with high interest in his field. The class is NOT an easy class. It is a bio class for MAJORS! Use the textbook, read it multiple times, use online sources for extra study material and pay attention. When drawing, use accuracy rather than detail.
This class was challenging, it's sink or swim. I did a study abroad with this prof. He was a let down academically. Guidelines were always changing or unreasonable, uneasy to meet in our setting. Discussions got brushed off. We got criticized for things he hadn't taught yet. Extremely strong student will do well. Pick a different study aboard prof.
worse teacher ever, doesn't have an idea how to teach his class. Wilson is all over the place.confusing, confusing confusing. Glad class is over. don take class with him run run run.
I did not like this teacher at all. He explains nothing. He expects you to just know everything. I really enjoy biology and was looking forward to this class, but was very disappointed in his teaching style. I passed, but learned nothing. Not worth it at all!
I would refrain from taking this class as much as possible. He is a horrible teacher. You don't learn anything in lecture, and pretty much have to learn it on your own. He gives no study guides. Lab is even more difficult. He pretty much expects you to know how to draw. Let's just say you can have a phd in anything but still suck at teaching
Took Wilson for BIO105, as well as BIO182. His enthusiasm about the topics make lectures more interesting. Extremely helpful if you ask for it- also helpful with real life applications.
Dennis is a very good professor. The material is hard and you will have to work hard in order to earn a good grade. His exams are tricky, but will give you test taking strategies that will benefit your future courses. He has a very attractive accent, that makes lecture enjoyable. He is very passionate and will give you additional help if needed.
BIO 182 is a hard class, a lot of information in a small time. Wilson is really tough, expects a lot of effort in lab class. However, it is worth it in the end. The test are hard! Especially in lab. Have to STUDY a lot! Wilson is funny and very passionate about what he teaches. He is a good teacher, but the class is really hard. I say fair grader
Easy class
Totally get the Blue Bio book for lab practical. Lectures are a snooze. Lab is ok. Nice guy, not the best instructor to teach this class. No feed back on lab drawings. Expectations are you remember every single wordspecies. I would rather learn, them memorize temperally. No final which is good bc you would never pass. To much useless info.
Lectures contain useless information. There's a lot of material to learn but you won't know which will be testable. He's nice and he's smart, but he's not a very good teacher.
Dennis and I started off on the wrong foot mainly because of the drawings but by the end of the course I couldn't wait to go to his rooms for lecture and lab. Brilliant man with true passion for his field and I feel lucky to have learned from him! I hope to find something I'm half as passionate about for my career.
Wilson is a great teacher. He's very enthusiastic about the class and wants you to learn. I think the other positive comments are right on. You should also know that at least half the exam questions are open book and online usually posted about a week before the paper tests. I found that very helpful. He gave us lots of study sessions.
I genuinely enjoyed Professor Wilsons' class. Honestly, I didn't put as much effort into the class as I should have but that's my fault. He was enthusiastic and easy to follow in LectureLab and it was a novel experience for me to actually have a professor that was both enthusiastic and who provided loads of useful information. DRAWINGS ARE KEY!!
Really knows his stuff and has great travel stories and pictures he shows in class. Teaches good study techniques. Don't plagiarize or you get zero on the assignment. Exam questions mostly right from lectures. Fun class grades on a curve.
Lecture is just what you'd expect for bio, but the lab is completely asinine. Loads of information for a long and painstaking practical of every minor detail of unimportant species(including scientific names). The highest weighted assignments are DRAWINGS IN LAB with criteria ensuring you will never get a good grade. Directions unclear. DON'T TAKE
Regardless of his already mixed reviews, this class is by no means easy. You are going to work for your grade, and do a lot of reading outside of class to understand a good portion of the material. He does make you do several drawings which you will hate, and his tests are no joke. But work for your grade, and you'll get what you deserve.
Dennis is very hard, but this is your second general bio class. You are probably planning to pursue a science degree, so get used to it. He requires that you actually learn the material. Tests are definitely hard but fair. If you're lazy, you will DROWN. There are tons of fun dissections in lab, and he's very engaging in lecture.
Does a lot of tricky stuff with his tests where there are 2 right answers, but one of them is more right. Lots of material to study from and doesn't make it very clear what to study. TAKE HIS ONLINE QUIZZES SERIOUSLY, they can make or break your grade, don't bomb them and expect the test to save you. I like him, but not his class.
85% and above is an A! Which is awesome! Always do your best on Lab quizzes, Chapter Tests, and the Lab write up and its a pretty easy A. A lot of the questions on the exams/quizzes are very similar and difficult to distinguish the correct answers.
I don't think he is a bad teacher but he has super high expectations. If you miss a lecture, make sure to get notes ASAP. Do not slack. Study every week. I recommend not taking another science class unless you a major science wiz or are a person who can retain a lot of information. Expect to not get 100% on Drawings. Lab Practicals are difficult.
Dennis is a tough grader, but if you take good notes in lecture and study you will pass! He only wants to help his students succeed, I've taken three of his courses and have enjoyed every minute of it. If you want to learn, and understand biology take it with him- his lectures are enjoyable and he always shares wonderful stories!
Bio 182 was really my first challenging Biology course I ended up with a B because I didn't take his deadlines too seriously. So DON'T MISS A QUIZ! Besides that it was an amazing course learning about zoology can seem pointless to most bio majors at first, but it has helped in every course since! He is Enthusiastic, and Professional in every way!
This was my first biology class in 4 years so I already knew it might be kind of hard to get the hang of it. I was confused all semester and never fully understood any of the material he taught. He expects you to figure a lot out on your own and really work for your grade which i think is too much to put on a student in their first biology course.
Dennis is the best professor I have ever had. He really wants you to learn, and works very hard to help his students. I would take him again. The material in the course is difficult, but it is worth it having him as a teacher. A++
In order to pass this class you'll need to watch his hour-long videos, read his power points, listen to the audio from the power points, read the books, pay close attention in class, and use the lab units for Quizzes. One source could say one thing while another source could say something else and you'll still get it wrong because he won't change.
Bio181 challenging & covers a lot of info! Dennis is easy to talk to, returns emails pretty quickly (same day/rarely longer), takes a lot of attitude with a lot of grace & will work with you until you really understand what you're looking at, but you have to DO THE WORK! Make sure to pay attention to DETAILS, SUGGESTIONS, DEADLINES, & STUDY!
Many people in the class dropped out over the first couple weeks, but as you stick through learning the material and try hard (which is the point of college) you will do fine. I took the hybrid course, so there were multiple schedules to follow. It got easier as the semester went on.
I have had great professors but he is not one of them. He really knows Biology but his expectations are to be as good as him. He is very picky in grading. There could be more than one answer in plain text in front of you but could only be one choice. I've had other professors try to teach and help you learn but he expects you to learn it.
He is very passionate, and serious about the material. DO THE LAB DRAWINGS to your fullest potential!!! Label and describe everything and you will PASS the class. His exams are as most exams are. Some questions you've seen, some you haven't. He has a lot of humor and is really nice if you talk to him. Don't be afraid, and do the drawings.
Good professor for sure, but very unreasonable when it comes to grading, especially the drawings. I would love to sit down and talk with Dennis, but he expects perfection when it comes to his class. Overall, he is a decent guy, but not very clear or helpful when it comes to the drawing side of the class.
I am mid-semester with him right now, and oh boy, is his class a mess. Decent guy, but doesn't really teach, and grades tough.
I believe Dr. Wilson means well. His teaching style is very passionate and it's great, but the class lacks where it matters. In exams(extremely important to your grade) he'll make it a game and give you trick questions and trick answers. Sometimes, you're not sure what answer to pick because there are multiple that are correct... It's not a game...
Took Wilson for hybrid 181. Great teacher, cares about your learning. Tests are tough, but lots of open book online stuff. I got an 82.3% and got an A.
I studied abroad with Dennis in Costa Rica and had a phenomenal experience. He is extremely passionate about the photography and biology so both classes had good content and always provoked thought. He was a patient person to travel with and fun to learn from. Would highly recommend his programs.
- Spent two hours on an open book online test and couldn't get better than a C - Tests are not generated from the textbook - Professor feels "trick questions" prove your understanding but is offended if you say his tests are just full of trick questions - Unfair grading scheme due to test not not generated from coursework - Avoid at all costs.
This is a hard class, but Dr. Wilson has a lot of passion about his field. He really wants you to understand and be able to apply the content. He will take the time to explain things if you aren't understanding. He really cares about his students and taking his class actually made me a much better student for my future classes. Great teacher!
By far the best teacher i have ever had and has a passion for teaching . I wish all teachers would be like him.
Dr. Wilson is a great professor! You need to go to the lectures to get good grades on the exams because they are very heavily based on that, and he talks about a lot of things that are not on the powerpoint's. The lab practicals are hard but if you study you will do well, I found that the quilts helped a lot with structure/function.
Dr. Wilson is a cool British guy. He explains things well and is caring. He is available outside of class for students who need it. He does expect quite a bit of drawing, but you can pick up basic drawing skills if you try.
Dennis Wilson is one of the greatest professors I've ever had. He is a strict teacher but overall great human being and cares about each and every one of his students. There is so much to learn from this man!!!! GREAT GREAT GREAT PROFESSSOR! I would always recommend him and take his classes!
Dr Wilson is very passionate about biology and education. He will not spoonfeed you the answers instead he uses creative ways to help students use critical thinking which is a major aspect of Science. I highly recommend using his office hours for tutoring and help on assignment. He really does care about his students and higher learning. Worth it!
Take this guy for Bio181 and Bio182. He's awesome, one of the best professors I've ever had. Lectures are on youtube and the course quizlets are awesome. He's the reason I passed my MCAT. Tests weren't hard and lots are open book online just DONT forget to take them.
He is a very passionate teacher. If you dont pay attention in lecture it will be very hard to pass this class. The biggest key to passing his class is taking the chapter quizzes and lab quizzes. They arent hard. There are some trick questions. But if you pay attention in lecture then they arent that bad. Take his class its very interesting.
If you take the time to do the work and you come to class you should have an easy go of it. Definitely try to meet him for office hours if you are struggling, he's very helpful. He wants people to pass his class and wants you to learn. I loved Dennis, best professor I've had in a very long time. Really breaks down the material for you!
One of the funniest/most enjoyable lab classes Ive ever had. I had a night class. If we didnt understand something in lecture he would go over it again to make it more understandable.
I cant believe Dr. Wilson has a 3.3 on this website. He deserves to be listed as one of the top professors of this school! I loved his class because he was very passionate about what he taught. Yeah, the class isn't easy but he makes it fun to learn. His powerpoints are straightforward and you can expect the content to be on the quizzes. Organized.
Dennis is obviously passionate about Biology. He's a super cool dude and if you ask questions he will help you. Definitely go to class. Lab assignments and lecture assignments due online-keep up on them. No busy work but lots of studying required.
His teaching style requires you to show up to class everyday and take notes and participate in lab. My grade was my fault I could have easily gotten an A if I put in more time. Very clear about what is on the tests and gives plenty of opportunity to succeed. Even a little extra credit a time or two in the semester. Impossible not to pass if you try
He is the best professor I have ever had and possibly one of the best people I have ever gotten the privilege of getting to know. You should definitely take the time to talk to him outside of class. He is passionate about biology and helping his students.
I studied abroad with him in Costa Rica in 2019. I am not a bio major, but his lectures were informative, interesting, and fun to listen to! His stories of his travels and adventures are also such an inspiration. A fun professor with lots of laughs and learning. Most homework was done online, which was also a positive experience.
He did an amazing job not just teaching us what to think, but also how to think. By that I mean he tried teaching us critical thinking skills, which is gold. He helped fuel the inner scientist within us. He had videos placed strategically throughout lecture to spice things us, as well as his travel stories. He was a great professor.
I took Dennis Wilson for both 181+182 and without a doubt he is the most passionate and inspiring teacher you'll encounter at Mesa. His understanding of his material is on a whole different level, absolutely brilliant. Strict grading, but exams are very fair. No busy work, no filler. Extremely helpful outside class for help/advice/resources/etc.
Dennis Wilson is by far the best professor that I have ever had. I have taken BIO 181, lab, and a study abroad to Costa Rica with him. It is very clear that he is passionate about what he teaches and keeps the lectures interesting with his first hand experiences and travels. The class can be challenging but with hard work an A is more than possible
He has code words in all of his videos, SO prepare to watch 4 hours a week plus things in labs. I did all of it and I wouldn't get all the code words. Which are on the tests. I find this ridiculous, and incredibly frustrating.
Does no know how to handle an online class, I know this may be new to him. doesn't give any study guide material. I'm a straight a student and got an A in BIO181. I would maybe take in person, seems like a nice guy but don't take his class online
He is organized and there is clear workload expectations. He pushes that you involve yourself in the course and you choose to sink or swim in the end, which I respect. My one issue is that he throws in a few odd questions in quizzes that aren't content focused and more a check to validate that you're watching his lectures.
Be ready to teach yourself. If you want to read for hours, watch videos that sometimes make no sense then this is the class for you. He does not do study guides for exams- you are on your own. No review no study guides. He thinks he is funny when being asked a question and he dances around the question without answering it. Choose another teacher.
If you like biology, take his class. His Practical Exam are really hard but if you take the time to study and understand you will be fine.
You can tell he is a great teacher and passionate about students succeeding if they put in the work. But yes, you have to work for it. The online course was very lecture heavy and sometimes hard to find the answers (if they were even in there) out of the 3 lectures given each topic. Theres a ton of open book quizzes to help grade and he is fair.
This is the only professor from whom you can study biology. He is incredible. I had it for an online course due to COVID. English is not my first language and I am glad I took 181 and 182 from professor Wilson. I was in office hours every week to get help. I loved the class. The course is made from all the professors own videos and pictures.
Took Prof Wilson online(COVID) for 181 (Grade:A) &182 (B). Only professor I've ever had who teaches skills on how to LEARN &structure notes which will help you in other courses! Cares about your actual learning! Passionate &uses his real life experiences to educate. Very clear on expectations & sets you up for success. Available to help students.
Do not take his class especially online he isn't understanding at all he loves to be right and his lectures are overboard unless you are super smart and all about being in the books by all means take his class if your just trying to pass the class and move on he isn't the professor, also a lot of the material isn't necessary you won't need it lol
He is a good professor but if you are expecting to take online beware. The exams are scheduled and have a specific time and timeframe as if in person that were was always inconvenient, which defeats the purpose of online format. Other than that good guy good class.
Trust me you don't want to take this class with this professor TAKE DR PLOWES INSTEAD I retook this class because I wanted to understand the material more and she was the best she's not worried about grades unlike Dennis she's worried about whether you truly understand it or not. He's harsh on you, he grades super heavy trust me you don't wanthim
Ignore the negative reviews. Great class. Best instructor I've ever had in an online class. Stuff to know that I liked. Weekly quizzes are open book and have unlimited time until due. Lots of these questions are in exams. Exams have a specific date but two times on that date. Low grade cut-offs. I got a B with 72% and average effort.
This professor sucks he is very hard to deal with. I asked for help he told me that I needed to take note which I was I wrote everything down and even put the pictures from slide on there too. He said I must have been taking poor notes. The test and exams are very trick questions. He teaching method sucks.
He may have a great personality, but if you were to take his class, be ready to teach yourself the content. On top of that, be ready to take two exams in one week (1 for the lecture, and 1 for the lab). Luckily, I hardly survived the class and would be someone I would not recommend taking.
He knows his stuff and you can learn a lot from him. With that said, he is a very strict professor. No late work accepted, due dates are set in stone, no make-up work so you get one shot to do things right. He also will do checks to see if you were paying close attention in class by quizzing you on minor examples that he used during lecture.
This was one of the hardest classes that I took in my life, it is absolutely intense. Dr Wilson, is one of the best professor I have ever had. His classes are very interesting and this class, your brain will be close to exploding. But it made me give it my all and it made me a better student and it prepared me for more challenges that are to come.
There is A LOT of content but he literally gives you a step by step guide in the syllabus on how to pass his class so you can't really complain there. If you don't try to rush his class and follow his instructions, you will pass guaranteed.
He is a good professor and a really intelligent guy. However, you need to be careful what you say to him because he tends to take your words very seriously and therefore, his response will be formatted in the same way.
Ignore any negative review Wilson is AWESOME and LOVDED this class. The important stuff. Grade cut-offs are 5% lower than normal. 85% and over is an A etc. Quizzes due every week, but open book and no time limits, drop the lowest score. No textbook to buy. All the quiz answers in the lectures and labs. No cumulative final. Learned a ton of stuff.
Very challenging class. Test are not to test your knowledge but instead meant to trick you. On big exams you can't use a calculator so if you have a difficult time without one you will struggle. Lots of studying is required to pass the class. Professor is strict and the course is test heavy.
He definitely knows his stuff but like another review said here, you need to be careful what you say to him. He will take your words very seriously and sometimes, that can be difficult to have to deal with.
Dr. Wilson is by far the best professor I have ever taken. BIO182 is dense with information and does require studying outside of the classroom to be successful. Dr. Wilson has wonderful stories and is passionate about the subject. Lectures are clear and concise and lab is a great time when it comes to the array of dissections. The best BIO teacher!
Makes content fun, applicable, and important. He cares about your learning and is very available. No busy work. High expectations, but says what they are and prepares you. Highlights: labs reinforced lecture material; quizzes structured to help you learn material before being tested on it; opportunities to learn outside of class
This class is HARD. Extremely test and lecture heavy. Take AMAZING notes and do NOT procrastinate. The professor made the difficulty worth it though. Extremely helpful, always checking up on his students and making things fun. He is one of the best professors I have ever had!
Amazing professor and class. I also took Bio181. Both classes were a great experience.
Prof Wilson is the best biology teacher I've ever had. I took both his bio classes a few years ago. I'm now in pharmacy school. I look back at these classes and now realize just how good he is. He's a great teacher with great experiences. Just listen to EVERY word he says and EVERY bit of advice he gives and follow it.
I really enjoyed his classes, I would recommend.
I would saw off my arm before I took him again. He made my favorite class awful and I heard nightmares about his tests. I barely kept my 4.0 after this class.
he made me suicidal
I just graduated from ASU. Prof Wilson is by far the best professor I've ever had. I took both 181 and 182 from Wilson. They seemed hard at the time, but he's a truly amazing teacher who actually cares and knows what to teach. I couldn't believe the negative reviews. He's absolutely the best.
BIO182 with this professor is challenging but rewarding. Attend class, follow the syllabus guide, and use resources like unstuck ai to reinforce learning. The lectures are engaging, and the labs are hands-on. Overall, a solid course worth taking.
He is a very good teacher and is very passionate about biology. The only down side is that there is a quiz for every lab and there is one at the end of each chapter, and you can only take them once. As well there is no extra credit but the grading scale is different like 85% and up is an A 75 and up a B ect.
I did not enjoy him at all. I barely snuck by with an A. His tests were very loosely based on lectures, I'm not really sure WHAT he based them on and he was so strict about when we could take the tests. It's an online class, I shouldn't have to take off work to take a test. This class made me cry harder than any class I've ever taken and I love bio
I took BIO181 and BIO182 with this professor, and it was definitely a very challenging class. He is passionate about biology, and the labs are hands-on and very interesting. You have to pay attention during his lecture and lab, so its highly recommended to go to his lectures. Otherwise, I really enjoyed his labs and he was very engaging!
For a teacher who I enjoy the subject makes this class suicidal. If I am learning about the subject I expect the material to be able to digest without having to jump through hoops just to understand his materials. Never taking his class again. Test heavy, dates are set in stone, and he will answer you back exactly how you respond to him.
Has very clear grading criteria. There are 3 Practicals and Exams which are each 10% of grade. Lecture and Lab quiz due every week. Make sure to study the material and actually understand it. Use any study guides and diagrams given. He makes plenty of jokes and has real life examples within lecture videos. Welcomes any questions you may have.
I had Dennis Wilson for bio181 and 182. He's the best instructor I've ever had. You'll learn biology, how to study and how to do science. He also gives lots of life hacks and has lots of great stories. All of this really helped me off to great start for other classes. So thank you Dennis Wilson.
Loved this class. Ignore the review trolls. If I could give Dr. Wilson more than 5 stars awesome I would. He does much more than teach biology, he teaches you how to think and how to study. he tells you exactly what to study for the exams and I mean exactly. He has a lower grade cutoffs (85% is an A), but no extra credit or retakes.
Professor Wilson has unclear expectations and poor communication. Exam averages were very low, but little guidance or review material was provided. Emails often went unanswered, quiz answers aren't released timely. Exams are not based on lectures and he blames AI for everything. Do yourself a favor, find a different professor or take another class
