I really liked this teacher, he wouldn't make his own views visible with his teaching. He tells you the facts and encourages you to make your own decisions. Understands that you have a life outside of class. Nice person, he treats people with respect.

I had tried taking the class with other two instructors (Hanson & Vento) but I dropped the class after the 1st week. Hanson was unclear and Vento too hard. Mr Carver made Political Science a fun subject.

He opens the floor for questions and debates and is always willing to answer questions or offer assistance. He is a very distinguished gentleman who is also very sweet. Really good instructor. Knows Political Science isn't the most interesting subject and tailors the class as such. I didn't really care about POLS before I took the class, but he made it pretty interesting. Just make sure you do the homework and show up in class for the lectures and test questions.

I liked his class. Politics is a very dry subject and he had a way of making it more interesting. I wouldn't take it again as i am not too interested in politics but i am definatly glad for the information i learned!

He lectures from his own power point slides and if you print them out(he emails them to the entire class) and make notes on them you'll do fine in his class. Two mid terms, bluebook essay -open note and one final. No HW and everything you need to know he provides in the slides. Not an easy A, but put some effort into it and show up you'll do great!

he's a good teacher and very passionate about politics.. i don't like politics but he kind of made it interesting.. anyway he goes by power points.. NO HOMEWORK! :) and tests are kinda easy and, research paper was easy.. he's very generous when it comes to grading

Great professor... I hated Politics and anything related to it because I found it to be boring but Prof. Carver made me understand it and find it interesting. You do need to attend class in order to take advantage of all the freebies he offers such as a detailed outline for the mandatory answer on the first exam n key notes

This class was very dry, however I did learn a lot. Mr. Carver tried his best to make Political Science interesting. 2 essay exams and 1 multiple choice/short essay exam. Lots of homework, but he let us turn it in late without penalty.

This is one of the best teachers in the world. All you have to do is pay attention in class and you will do fine. The notes are from powerpoints. He is super smart and helped me so much even after the class was over. If you want to learn such a dry subject TAKE HIM!

Really chill guy, dry sense of humor but it was entertaining. Gives exam questions 2 weeks prior and allowed to use all notes and powerpoints on the exams. Easy assignments, he just overall wants your opinion the most. Lectures can be dull at times but definitely a class worth taking.

Carver is a good teacher, he LOVES Political Science and tries really hard to make this dry subject easier to learn. There were four exams, all of them blue book, but he makes it really easy cause he goes over the questions and gives them to you two weeks in advance. He also allows you to use notes! I hated the subject but got an A in his class.

I hated political science like most but he made it really easy and simple. Had one homework assignment and a paper. 3 blue books test. really simple you get the questions ahead of time.

Awesome teacher. Puts all the powerpoints and study guides on avc's website, which was helpful. Emails the class frequently and gives test questions prior to the test. Easy class if you do some work. He's quite the character and makes a not so interesting subject worth learning about.

The work and tests really paid off even though it was a lot because you really get all the information stuck in your head afterwards. He's very organized and helpful. Loved the files being online.

He was a very straight to the point and got the information to you easily. The class was serious most of the time but fairly easy. If you want an A you really gotta know your stuff, but If he sees you tired he will give you a passing grade.

Easy class, obviously it is not a "show up and pass", but tests are open note and easy assignments, just show that you tried and gives you full credit.

Pretty decent guy. You can tell he eats and breathes and lives for politics. Can make topics more interesting than most. Very straight forward grader. Do the work and you'll pass. Lives off of PowerPoint, and keeps you super updated. **The only book i actually USED was the critical thinking one, the other I didn't even touch.

Professor Carver is wonderful! He has very clear lectures, and lets you know exactly what you need to do to pass. You honestly have to be really lazy to not pass this class. I really enjoyed seeing how passionate he is about poli sci. Seeing his passion made me interested in a subject I had no interest in before.

Great instructor! He is very clear about what he wants done and is willing to help. His lectures are so much fun. He gets everyone involved and just sets a great learning atmosphere. There are 3 or 4 written exams which are open note, term paper on assigned topics. The multiple choice portion of the final is closed note.

He does everything he can to make the class interesting and relevant. Classwork is assigned each day, so you will drop a grade if you skip often. I only used the Critical Thinking book. I didn't even crack open the other two, however the test questions are taken from the book so be careful. We had some fun discussions. He's a great teacher.

I didn't know anything about the politics before taking this class, but even I was able to learn and get an A because of his good teaching. I still had to work hard, but his teaching made class easier. There were two essays, one open book exams and one close book finals.

Mr. Carver is enthusiastic about his subject. He has in class assignments at the end of every class from the critical thinking book so it makes things much easier if you get it. Also the multiple choice tests are based on the book not the lectures so reading it would be good. He's not really challenging but cares a lot about his students.

Prof. Carver is an excellent teacher! Extremely helpful. He explains everything and is completely supportive. He makes it very easy to earn an A, but you have to do the work, which isn't difficult, especially since he goes over everything to help his students be successful. DC was a very good teacher! He really cares about his students. His lectures are long but he gives one long break that really helps. He gives study guides for all of his tests which are a HUGE help. The tests are long but study the guides and you'll be okay. DC made class enjoyable. You only NEED 1 book, which is for class work.

Professor Carver is AMAZING! He is extremely lenient when it comes to classwork (yes, there's classwork but it only takes about 10 minutes or so). He doesn't lecture the entire class, he does use powerpoints and it's useful to print them to use on the exams. The first few exams were open note with a scan tron and multiple choice questions.

Carver is a little lecture heavy, tends to get boring. However, all homework assignments are done in class from the workbook, there is one essay, and he offers study guides for all tests, which he thoroughly reviews before the exam. I never used my textbook so save your money, but the workbook is mandatory. Easy A if you study.

The best professor you can get for Political Science. Start your term paper early in the semester and study for your tests and you're golden. Assignments are all in class (from my experience) and are all very easy. Unless you're a Political Science major, buy all your books USED or digital, new ones aren't cheap.

I am super pleased with how much I enjoyed Professor Carvers class! This unfortunately was the only polisci class I was able to take with him and I wish I had been able to take more! He is very laid back, funny, and very easy to talk to. My particular class was a night class and I usually cannot stay awake, yet he always made it interesting!

This is a great class. He's really helpful with any questions you may have and many of the assignments aren't even that hard. The hardest thing you will do in his class is the term paper. But other than that I would definitely recommend him to anyone who needs to take a political science class.

I was nervous to take this course through zoom considering it is a heavy topic but Professor Carver is one of the best I've ever had. He is extremely caring and responds to emails within minutes, no matter when. Assignments not difficult as long as you pay attention to lectures & read. Professor Carver had lectures that, although they were long at times, were very easily understood and stuck easily. Final and midterms were both essays, but he gave the prompt weeks in advance, and actually gave you 3+ prompts to choose from. Really informative class, didn't have to buy the book either.

He likes to ramble sometimes during lectures, but you can access his notes on canvas outside of class, and utilize class time to do homework. Most assignments were completed in class with his help. Generally, Professor Carver is a very easy grader as far as essays are concerned. Give yourself at least six hours on all essays and you'll be fine.

Very passionate about his subject and his discussions were often lively and informative. Fairly heavy workload for a 101 class. About 1 writing assigment per week (which he will usually partially complete with the class), ~1-3 inquisitive assigments per week, 3 essays, and a midterm paper. Provides comprehensive notes and covers material very well.

I took this class in the Fall of 2020 with the ongoings of the pandemic, the national attention to systemic racism and police brutality, and the upcoming election. The combination of world events while taking POLS101 with Professor Carver really encouraged me to be politically active and I appreciate him tying in relevant topics to the lectures.

This was my second time taking Political Science 101 and Professor Carver made it seem so simple. Yes there will be papers, but the rubric breaks it down so well it doesn't seem so bad. He also has a couple extra credit assignments. Would recommend. 10/10

If you have to take a 101 and you don't want to get burnt out on college immediately, take this guy's class.

Professor Carver is very caring and passionate about Political Science. There is a lot of writing, but it is not overwhelming. He provides all the information you need to be successful in his class. I would encourage anyone who needed to take a Political Science class to take him.

I never do this for any professor, and I promised I wouldn't do this, but that just shows how much I loved Professor Carver. I took him in the summer term while I was taking my high school classes, and he was just so great!! He is such a sweet man, and if you email him your paper before it's due, he offers you extra credit. 10/10 loved him so much

Currently taking Professor Carver and all I can say is that he is amazing! I have learned so much and I actually enjoy it. We have a couple of writing assignments but nothing crazy, he is very straightforward and most work can be done in 30-40 minutes max. Make time for this class and you should be good!

Professor Carver was amazing! This was my first semester here at AVC, and I had no confusions at all for his class. His Canvas was extremely well organized, and you could tell he loves what he teaches even though it was a hybrid class, so I only had to show up for four days. Easy to contact for help. :) Super cute cat as his banner for Canvas!!!!!!
