Made class fun and interesting. I feel like i have learned a lot from this class.

I liked every thing about the class, the only thing was the group project. I think they are not useful at all. They say you may work with a group at work in future.. but it is very different.. at work you don't do your job.. you are fired!!! as easy as that.... so no group project. please....

Derek is really into what he teaches and because of that it's really easy for you to learn the material. He makes class interesting and fun,he's totally cool and I would recommend him over anyone else.

Mr. Clapp is very helpful. He will work with you on anything and help you anytime you need it. He is very flexible and there is no reason why you shouldn't be able to get an A in this class with him teaching it. I can't say enough good things about him. Oh he is funny as hell too and makes the class fun to go to.

By far the BEST teacher there is..he is tons of fun and non stop laughter! First impressions might make you think differently, but he has a heart of gold. He makes everyone feel like not just a student, but a friend. His personality makes you want to go to class, what more could you ask for!?

Derek Clapp is a great instructor. When I first met Mr. Clapp I thought that this was not the ordinary college Professor. He combines real life experiences with the text book. He makes class fun and interesting. He also makes you work for the grade and does not just give you an A! I wish he taught more classes that I have to take.

Derek made the class interesting and better yet, kept us interested in the material. His animated way of instructing is unique and effective. I LOVED having Mr. Clapp. He was such a blast to talk to. He's a very easy person to open up to about things and he actually cares. He's willing to do everything possible for a student to pass, but that student has to do their part to earn the grade. He's wonderful and plus you rarely ever use the textbook needed. He's been my favorite teach yet.

This class was a blast. I really had so much fun, but also at the same time learned alot about the business and professional world. Derek helped me in so many areas that I know will come to much use in my future. I would recommend anyone to take this class, even if it is not required because I can guarantee you will use all of the information.

I suggest taking this class. Derek Clapp is very outgoing, and it's encouraging if you are outgoing as well, but it can also help you come out of your shell if you are not. He teaches well, while still remaining on the student's level. Compared to other speech teachers on campus, i would take him. Slightly profane, but definitely not obscene.

Derek makes class fun, and exciting. He is straight forward, and if you can not handle the truth you better not ask. He does not make the students feel as though he is above them. He cares about his students.

If you're not interested in giving speeches, take speech 1318 Interpersonal Communications. His is a great teacher who isn't hard as long as you are willing to come to class.. He is very helpful and offers an extended amouth of extra credit!! I would definately take him if you're looking for a fun and interesting class!! Super Easy!

I loved this professor, he is one of the most encouraging teachers I've ever had and definately keeps the class entertaining and fun. You have to work but I mean...it's college!

Derek is an outstanding teacher. His teaching style is dynamic. He will challenge you, make you laugh, maybe even step on your toes, but you will become a better student and a better person. Professor is probably one of the coolest ones I have had yet. The textbook for my course was weak, not worth the money, but still a great class. Clapp knows how to keep you entertained and how to make learning fun. Most important, he really knows his material well.

I didn't think he was all that, he's more into himself than the students and can be hurtful. I've heard so many students talk bad about him that I question the validity of his RMP ratings and comments. But hey -- maybe I'm wrong! It's easy to get good grades in his class. Show up for class and do the work on time and you'll be fine. Be tough!

It's a pretty easy class. The difficult part can be remaining patient b/c he can be really annoying after a while. He's not very respectful to students and constantly uses terrible language ("it's part of who he is"). There is not much structure in the class. He's not too bad overall, though, because at least it's not super-boring.

Somewhat unconventional professor. Demanding of your attention and expects a high quality of effort. He is realistic and entertaining. You wont know what to expect from day to day. However, he is fair and gives ample opportunity for extra credit. It is his wish that all succeed. I recommend him to anyone who takes a communications course.

IT WAS FUN!

This class is the greatest! He teaching technique is great! My son took this class before me, and insisted I take it, and I am so glad I did! I would recommend it to everyone! The class isn't a blow off class by any means and you should study, but having Derek Clapp as your instructor is worth the studying!

Very unconventional teaching methods, but it def. keeps the classroom filled. most of my other classes tended to thin out, but this one stayed jam packed.

I greatly enjoyed being a part of this class. This was the second time I have taken a course taught by Derek, and I absolutely love his style of teaching. It is nice to have a professor that you know cares about his students. I would definitely recommend this professor to anyone needing a speech course.

This was a very helpful class! I was worried about my grades in it, at the beginning, because of the "laid back" environment, but I made an A! Derek was very easy to follow & understand & treated us with respect. I learned a lot of useful information & reccomend this class to anyone!!!

This class was the highlight of my semester. I got an "A" very easily, but I had perfect attendance and did all 3 papers. There were 3 tests as well. Take him!!

GREAT teacher! 1)Doesnt use the book but is good to have if you got lost in his lectures, which is vary rare. 2) Speeches are simple, he doesnt grade hard on them at all. 3) Test are easy just a little tricky so you must know the vocabulary. GREAT TEACHER!!

I really enjoyed this class. I laughed and learned a lot...that is always a good thing. You DO have to study for his tests, they aren't that easy.

He is a great teacher! Fun and down to earth. He doesn't make your mind wonder cause he always does things to keep your attention. I loved him. His tests are hard, but he gives you a review and if you study you will pass it. Pay attention in class, participate and most of all respect his wishes...ie..cell phones off, no talking.

next to clark hes the best instructor,i found myself attending class bcuz i wanted too not bcuz i had too.ABSOLUTELY NO CELL PHONES he will tell u to leave class if it rings.study for exams(thats the only time i used the book)he will help u with the test just ask! and if u answer a question wrong and explain ure answer he usually accepts it still.

Derek is clear as a bell when lecturing. Pay attention and be involved and you will learn what you need to succeed. Don't take offense at the delivery and let the intent sink in, Derek is passionate about his subject and will teach you to succeed in life. I highly recommend this class and professor to all.

He is hands down one of the beat teachers I have ever had, he's very funny and cares about his students. I felt like I actually learned something in his class. He is very helpful, clear, and concise and knows his material very well! I recommend his class to everyone I know!

His lectures are fun and entertaining which makes learning the material easy. I learned a lot from his class and recommend other students to take him.

Very intertaining class. Clapp goes out of his way to help his students. Test are a little tough but if you take notes and study you'll pass with no problem. I also learned a lot of helpful tips in communication and relationships.

This guy is awsome!!! He is stern but fair. Means what he says and says what he means. Very clear on all assignments and is easy to work with just make sure you communicate with him. I got an "A" in his class but I worked for it honestly. Curses like a salor but very down to earth. Take Him any chance you get in any course you'll love it and him.

Energetic, knowledgeable, interesting, funny, respectful to the students. You have to work for your grade in his class, but he makes it so fun that it doesn't feel like work! I was on time to his class everyday because I didn't dread being there!

I took this class for summer II. I loved his class it was never boring. He tells you what you need to know for the test and gives great advise for the future. There is a lot of writing but its not like a formal english class. Its not hard writing assignments. His test are a little confusing but if you study you will be fine.

He's great! If you're scared of giving speeches he's the professor for you! He's very laid back and calm. He will do anything he can to make you feel comfortable and anything he can do to help you not be so scared. I would recommend him to ANYONE taking a speech course! LOVED HIS CLASS!!

GREAT TEACHER!! He is very interested in the subject and made going to the class fun. I was not thrilled about taking speech but after taking his class it was worth it! He doesn't make you speak in front of the class and is clear with your notes. Go to class and you'll do great! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!! :)

This was the best class I have ever had. The teacher can keep your attention and even gets side tracked sometimes,but he is very helpful and helps outside of class with emotional problems too. The class can be tough but you just have to be determined to pass.

I think that Derek Clapp is the best professor I've had since attending college. I really learned a lot from his class. Now my self-esteem is through the roof. Great job Derek. There is a reason for most of these comments being the same. This dude is awesome. He really knows his stuff, makes it very clear, and keeps it interesting. If I had to find something negative, the majority of his disclosed past has a striking resemblance to Domenic Torreto of Fast and Furious. My guess is that it's a fake demeanor for approval.

This man teaches very well, knows what he is teaching, and teaches it to where you are not bored and your attention is kept the entire class time. He is very fair with his grading. Study over content given and this class is a breeze. Enjoyed this class so much that I would take Coach's class anytime.

Coach is an excellent professor. He really wants and helps you to actually learn the material. I always looked forward to going to his class because he made learning fun with his life stories and keeping us out of "Tahiti." I also learned a lot about myself and how I communicate to others. I highly recommend Coach in anything he teaches.

Very funny, but makes sure you understand the information and will even go into detail about a funny story or a serious story about how the situation relates to him or a friend of his. Now most Mondays in the fall semester you will not have to go to class because of golf. Not too difficult, but not easy!

Overall great professor. I looked forward to his class every day I had him. He is really knowledgeable about the topic of speech. I really learned a lot from his class. As long as you do what he says to do then you will be just fine. He likes to have fun with the students to keep them engaged in the topic.

He's an outstanding teacher! His lectures are always entertaining and you he makes you feel involved. Even when you've only had like 3-4 hours of sleep its quite easy to stay focused. Although I do advice you to study thoroughly, I would definitely recommend him.

I took Clapp for both Speech and Interpersonal Communication and I enjoyed him both times. I especially loved Interpersonal. I learned so much from the class. I enjoyed going every time. Teaching style is less of a lecture and more of a life lessonadvice feel. He will make you a friend for life and you'll never forget the things he taught you!

Mr. Clapp, or Derek as he likes to be called, is the best teacher I have ever had. He is very interactive with his class, telling jokes and clarifying things as he goes along. He will make you give speeches, but that is to be expected. He does help you out though and walks you through it step by step. All in all I give Derek a 10/10!

Clapp is funny and makes the class fun & lively. Take the notes he tells you and study them for the tests. Use the blackboard note outlines. You do not need the book. Be prepared for him to pick on you & cuss. But the class is pretty easy overall. Give 1 easy speech & write 2 papers. Extra credit if you go to MCC sports games.

coach Derek is one of the best speech teachers at MCC I have taken both of his classes and each time i have definitely enjoyed them. his lectures are more like life lessons be ready for him to possibly pick on you in class. i definitely recommend him, with coach you have a friend for life anything you need. he give extra credit opportunities.

If you don't mind a teacher that is a little big headed then this class is a pretty easy B. Just make sure you give a speech and do the 3 main assignments. He gives a test based solely off lecture(quizlet, but beware he says he will catch you I didn't...) Then a 2 page paper for the final.

He is straight forward and encourages lots of great discussions. He helps to and the entire class to be open and comfortable with speaking in front of each other. I would highly recommend taking, especially if public speaking is difficult for you.

Great teacher, he engages the class in fun discussions. If you are one to always be late, like me, beware. the participation grades are quizzes at the start of class, these can be pop quizzes so be on time. There are few homework assignments. and there were two group assignments at the end of the semester.

Before taking his class on campus, I had extreme anxiety about public speaking. I didnt want to do presentations and talk in front of everyone, it made me sick!! Usually, professors dont care! Pro Clapp took the time to check on me when he noticed I was nervous, and gave me he confidence I needed. Very helpful, and gives feedback.
