The only thing that some people might not like (but I was fine with) is that the class grade is basically 4 quizzes, a midterm, attendance, and a final. Philosophy is a terrible subject but he's nice and young nerdy guy that gets all excited about the subject so it helps. I never read anything from the book, his lectures go in depth during class about the reading and the reading is hard anyway so don't bother with the book. Go to class and pay attention to his lectures and you'll understand it

Good class. There are readings Professor Green expects to be done before every class and then he goes over it with his own powerpoint. Textbook really isn't needed because all of the readings are works that can be found free online. Classes can drag on sometimes, especially if you take it in the morning.

Prof. Green was great! Although Intro to Philosophy might not be the most exciting class, I believe that the content is good and lectures are very informative. Make sure that you show up to class as all of the tests are based on the powerpoints and missing one class can set you far behind. Make sure to study before tests!

Professor Green was one of the most entertaining and authentic professors Ive ever had the hot of taking. He made Philosophy very interesting and was welcoming for any type of questions or clarifications. I would definitely recommend him to anyone looking to knock out a GEP course or looking to major in Philosophy.

I loved this class. I am biased as a philosophy major, but I think anyone could really do well. It is a decent amount of reading. If you do the reading and just absorb what he has to say during lecture youre literally set to do well. His exams are pretty straight forward with extra credit and he doesnt try to trip you up.

This professor is good at making philosophy relatable and somewhat interesting, though in honesty his lecture style is often a bit boring. He does attempt some humor, which is sometimes successful. Overall, though, his class is borderline boring but definitely easy, and I never studied more than glancing through powerpoint to remember names.

Easily my favorite professor from my freshman year. I had him early in the morning, but he managed to keep me interested in the topic we went over. The entire course grade was based on four quizzes, a midterm, and a final exam. All of which he thoroughly taught. Very entertaining lecturer as well. I cannot recommend a teacher more.

The lectures in this class were always engaging and interesting. I found myself not really using the textbook because the lectures were more than sufficient, and the tests never once caught me off guard or confused me or covered material that wasn't covered in class. I genuinely enjoyed taking this class.

Super great professor! He'll recommend the textbook, but you'll never need to read it. Uses an attendance code for class so you don't have to go if you have a friend to give you the code to text in. It's good to go though because his lectures are great. Inspired me to become a philosophy minor.

Professor Green is a good instructor for those taking introductory philosophy courses such as myself. The material he teaches is not so hard; all the student would need to do is to take time to read the material prior to class. During class, he explains the readings quite well. Absolutely amazing class. Basically grades are composed by 6 quizzes, a final, and attendance. Lectures were actually so interesting and I never wanted to miss a class. The class is organized and well taught. Professor Green knows exactly what he's doing/talking about. Quiz/final questions are straight forward but of course you need to study.

Professor gave a generous curve on each quiz (though, I'm not sure if this will apply to future classes). Having only taken his introductory course, I loved Professor Green. He made a subject that a lot of people find boring consistently enjoyable and elaborated on all the profound concepts sufficiently and concretely. He also respectfully entertained any thoughts that students proposed, which makes me want to take a more involved course with him.

Professor Green is one of those once-in-a-lifetime professors. He really cares about his students and their ideas and he goes all out to make sure that his students understand and enjoy everything he teaches. He doesn't believe in tricking his students so the quizzes and tests are really easy if you just go to class and listen.

I had Professor Green for HUM 2210. Prof. Green is a philosophy professor. He doesn't specialize in ancient history. This was Prof. Green's first time teaching a summer course (6 weeks rather than 12) as well as his first time teaching HUM 2210. And I ended with a 94. You will learn the material no matter the subject. Easily the best prof I've had.

Professor Green is hilarious... mostly because he'll laugh at his own jokes. Philosophy is extensive, at most hard to grasp with difficult topics. He makes it easy though. He turns situations into scenarios which are easy to relate to. He uses simple language and really breaks things down to bare bones. Highly suggest- you'll love it!

Explored Immanuel Kant's Critique of Pure Reason. Green has a masterful understanding of philosophy and opened my mind to its depth and value. This was by far the most rewarding class I have ever taken. The reading content is exceptionally difficult, but the lecture does all of the heavy lifting. If you want to LEARN, make sure to take Green.

Dr. Green put intelligence and good will into teaching this class. Kants writings are known for the difficulty; Dr. Green helped us understood Kant in great depth, with his brilliant lectures and skills of an academic philosopher. Hes well prepared for every lecture; answers questions in class with serious consideration in detail. Im grateful.

Through the semesters taking classes with Dr. Green, I have realized it's not he who is difficult. He is the only professor I've ever had to teach things correctly in a way that demands that students /learn/ correctly, and yes, the material is hard. Loved this class. I didn't have perfect attendance but I attended a majority of the lectures (a must if you want to past), studied for the tests (didn't attend review sessions) and finished the course with a 102.63% - I believe Professor Green made the class enjoyable and the information easy to digest. I took professor Derek Green for PHI 2010. The class is straight. The exams are based off of lecture and his TA'S hold a review the day before the exam which is basically everything on the exam. His lectures were very informational and interesting.

Although there is quite a bit of homework in the course, it is well worth it. for a 2000's course I learned much more in Derek's PHI2011 course than I did in many 4000 level courses. If you are good at time management, this course's homework is perfect for you. He was also very lenient with curving and extra credit throughout the semester.

Professor Green very passionate about Philosophy but this class was hard. I took the honors version of philosophy which is probably why I found this class more difficult. There is a lot of reading to do and the reading is not easy. If you are good at time management this class is not that bad but you need to understand the material well.

PHI2010 with Professor Green has been a pleasure. His lectures are engaging and hilarious. He handled the online transition amid COVID19 beautifully. Taken over summer, so it may be different during a regular semester. But there were quizzes due every few days, or even multiple days in a row. They were pretty easy to prepare for, just watch the lectures and read the textbook which had pretty short chapters. It's a lot of applying material to examples, so you really have to understand concepts.

He has been my favorite instructor throughout my 3 years. I actually took this class because I needed any 3 credit hours and enjoyed my class with him freshman year so much! This class was a COVID obscurity, an in person class which had to move online. He still did a good job. It was easy for me but the workload is substantial. There is a chapter review quiz due every few days. I was struggling w a concept and he met w me on Skype to go over it. Solid guy and I love the material. Helped my thinking skills immensely.

Green likes to record all of his lectures for offline viewing, so you never have to go to class. He is very clear with his expectations and rarely tests on unfamiliar topics. He often gives large grade curves on tests which in logic, which feels just like a math class in the level and kind of work required, helps a lot. Overall great professor!

This was my first philosophy course taken because I need an elective and I was very unprepared for how hard formal logic could be. Despite that, he worked hard to make sure we could all pass - he helped me outside office hours when I told him how I was struggling and gave generous curves on every test. His lectures disorganized, but still fun!

The most difficult class I had this semester. The professor is really good and he's invested in the subject and tries to explain if you are confused. The only problem is the subject of the class is very difficult. The class relies on weekly quizzes which are proctored. If there's another class in this GEP you can take that is easier, take it.

If I'm gonna be completely honest, this may have been the easiest class I've ever taken. There are suggested readings, but one could easily get through this class by simply watching the lectures (at 1.5x speed). While lectures may seem long, Professor Green provides enough examples and explanations to make the most abstract ideas make sense.

Professor Green was very spoken, his lectures were easy the understand. It was helpful if you did the reading assigned before class. Philosophy is challenging at first and requires a lot of time. Professor Green reviews what the reading from the previous night was about, which was great because the reading can be challenging. Overall the class seems like it's going to be the worst class ever and ended up actually being pretty enjoyable. Just study hard before the tests!

Logic is just a generally hard subject but Green makes sure to answer any and all questions you could have. I can not overstate this next point: best. lecturer. in. department. Genuinely this man gives off like, crazy uncle vibes but in the best way possible. Drops lowest quiz and problem set grade to help everyone out, every assignment is curved.

Dr Green is a wonderful human being and the best one UCF has got so far! I have never seen anyone more caring and extremely knowledgeable professor at UCF at all. Definitely would take him again. Weekly quizzes but you have 2 attempts on each. If you ever have questions outside of class he is always available and I have met with him several times. He drops the two lowest quizzes and curves most of the other ones. I needed the test book for a couple of concepts he didn't cover.

Fantastic teacher. He made philosophy (a subject I previously brushed off as boring) interesting and engaging. Topics can be difficult or convoluted sometimes, so the reading assigned usually clarifies and goes more deeply in to what the general lecture PowerPoints go over. Derek Green was one of my favorite professors this semester. He generously curves his quizzes(which can be difficult) from 5-20% and his lectures were just one of a kind. He uses humor mixed with his intelligence to really get the class going. Although attendance is mandatory and for a grade, it can serve as a good grade booster. Take his class.

Derek does a great job at teaching the material for this class. I will say if you don't show up, you'll make things harder on yourself but he does supply resources for you to review at home. He is more than fair on grading. You can tell he really cares about teaching and his students. If you have a chance to take Derek, I fully recommend him.

This is my first time ever taking a philosophy course, so it was definitely a bit difficult, but Professor Green was great. His lectures can be confusing at times so I would definitely recommend looking over the PowerPoints before taking quizzes or tests. His quizzes are honor lock. Lectures are great, informative, and not too boring. Honestly never had to read the textbook or read the powerpoints unless I missed class. If you don't go to class or take notes, good luck. Proctored quizzes and the technology ban are a bit frustrating though.

Loved Derek! Class can be a bit confusing but he explains it so well. Really cares about students and tries to help as much as possible. Made lectures entertaining and just a cool dude overall

Overall, I think that this professor was very passionate about Philosophy, and he had a great sense of humor. However, if you have trouble understanding abstract ideas, then you might have a lot of trouble with his class. He does make an effort to help you understand if you need extra assistance during his office hours.

For one, Derek is probably everything you want in a professor. He is very passionate about philosophy and has an amazing sense of humor. Class is very lecture based and grades are predominantly on test, so do get ready to study quite a bit. Derek has a high interests for the success for his students and always helps with hard concepts.

This professor is VERY passionate about his work and is usually very clear about some topics. The only issue I had was that certain topics have contrasting theories and that could be confusing with his teaching style as he would explain one and then move on to the other which would be the complete opposite.

Derek Green made philosophy pretty fun to learn. His classes were entertaining and engaging. He gives a break in the middle of it, so that helps! Attendance is a grade and we do not have much work in this class. Grade is based on tests every other week. The lowest grade does get dropped!! I would recommend him for PHI2010.

Such a great professor with funny and whitty remarks. He gives band kid humor but in a good way. His lectures are really good and he does noteoutlines which are very helpful. I never did the after lecture reading because it was so long and I didn't have time, but everyone I know who did got As on the tests.

Outside of class just study no homework. Review the day before tests from TA in and will still be there to help. The tests aren't that hard. Attendance is mandatory and graded. His lectures are very engaging and he teaches in ways that are easy to understand or will clarify with you one on one so everyone understands.

Insanely good lecturer, makes class extremely fun. I gave it a 3/5 for difficulty because the first half wasn't too bad but the topics in the 2nd semester were more difficult. Basically 4 papers and 2 in-person written exams (midterm/final). He is extremely willing to work with you and help you understand the concepts if you struggle!

The lectures were great, this class covers a lot of ground but he makes the information very digestible and easy to understand. There wasn't a lot of work, most of your grade comes from the tests, which were very doable especially with the curve. Overall, it was definitely one of my favorite classes I've had here, and I would highly recommend it.

There's a lot of readings, but his in-class lectures will simplify and better explain all the topics, so it's possible to survive without reading the textbook. Take every practice quiz before the tests, as there are sometimes shared questions and will earn you free points. Attendance is mandatory, but gives 3 free absence exemptions.

Best teacher I had this semester. Grade is based on attendance, syllabus quiz, 6 tests, and a final. He allows 3 excused absences. Tests are usually 30 multiple choice questions. Very easy class overall. Gives plenty of study materials before the tests and there is review sessions before the test as well. Definitely recommend this professor.

He is an amazing professor!! Made even some of the harder philosophical concepts easy and fun to understand. Class consisted of attendance, 6 tests, and a final. If you attend the review sessions and take solid notes before the tests, you will be super prepared for them. Overall this was an easy class and not time consuming at all.

Professor Derek Green is a great teacher, he knows a lot about what he is teaching and makes learning enjoyable. I would recommend him to any philosophy/psychology students. I am so thankful to have had him as my last class! 10/10 would take it again!

Professor Green is hilarious and often uses fun analogies to make even complicated things easy to understand. His tests are a bit difficult if you don't do the readings or pay attention to the materials being taught but he curves the tests so it's not too bad. He is very passionate about what he teaches and truly knows what he's talking about.

Dr. Green is an awesome human being and great teacher who sincerely tries to help his students. He is so knowledgeable and well prepared, his lectures are both informative and enjoyable. He also gives each student commentary on assignments to help us become better writers and thinkers. This Philosophy of Mind class is a really well-planned class.

Professor Green is probably the best professor I've ever had. His lectures are great, and he offers lots of resources to use when preparing for tests (study guides, practice quizzes, and TA review sessions). If you attend the lectures and study, you can definitely be successful in the class. This class made me really interested in philosophy.

Very nice/goofy prof. Little harder than other GED classes. You can skim the textbook readings. They're not super necessary since he covers them in lecture. Attendance is graded w/ 3 freebie absences. Tests are multiple choice. You need to know the concepts rather than just random facts. Each test is slightly curved w/ 1 lowest test grade dropped.

Only grades are exams and they happen every 2 weeks but they are quite easy to pass. He is very funny and his lectures are entertaining and knowledge filled. I learned a lot from this class and wish I could take it again.

Dr. Green is amazing! I found the lectures to be pretty interesting, and he does a fairly good job of explaining tougher concepts in a way that suits an intro class. Your grade in the class depends solely on attendance and how you do on the exams, so I highly recommend going to the review sessions that his TAs host before exams.

mr. green was awesome, his lectures were intriguing and he was very accommodative & nice. I definitely recommend this class, but if you want an A you need to put the time & work in! he certainly deserves the rating he has, definitely considering minoring in philosophy now :)

Funny guy who is lenient with grading and is open to listen to you and work with you on most things. 100% recommend him

I ended up loving this class! At first, I wasn't doing well on the quizzes, but once I got the idea of how he structured them, they got easier. They are all proctored, but it's only ten questions every Friday.The lectures are very enjoyable to go to & he is pretty funny and very knowledgeable! I would highly recommend taking his class

Professor Green does a great job of ensuring that his lectures are entertaining and easy to follow. It is evident that the professor is knowledgeable and passionate about the material. A variety of resources are given to help prepare students for assessments. Feedback is given on quizzes to help students understand why their answers were wrong.

Professor Green is a professor who makes his lectures and even quizzes interesting. You can watch his lectures or just look at the presentation slides for whatever suits you best. It's easy to get full marks as long as you read the notes, although the quizzes online are open book. Great professor who helps to make learning fun, great class.

His lectures are digestible and very engaging. The quizzes are easy if you attend his lectures but you can pass the class by only reading the power points. He will also explain why you got something wrong on a quiz and he usually will and points to the quiz

Professor Green is one of the best professors I had at UCF. Although online, I feel like I really got to know him through his engagement and accessibility. Answers emails fast and is very accommodating. You can tell he has a passion for philosophy and cares a lot about students. Quizzes are easy and he posts resources for them. 10/10 reccomendation

Derek Green's teaching style is very engaging and unique as he relates concepts to well-known and funny material. He's obviously very passionate about what he teaches, and it's contagious. If taking an online course with him, as I did, I recommend watching the lectures as the material is made a lot more fun and interesting through his humor.

Legitimately my favorite teacher that I've ever had here at UCF. His lectures were very entertaining and easy to digest. He was always open to questions both in class and in office hours. After an exam you would go to his office hours and he would review what you got wrong and made sure you understood why, which really improved my grades.

Great and funny lectures. His thought problems/experiments were always really fun. The only grades in this class are the 6 test grades, but he drops the lowest test grades. The tests are super easy if you just show up to class. I didn't even do most of the readings and I still got an A+.

I have no passion for philosophy, this class was insanely boring with required attendance. Tests are moderately hard but always get curved so you end up passing with like a B. Professor obviously is very passionate about what he teachers, but the way the class is structured, If you want an easy A for a GEP class, do not take PHI-2010.

Professor Green was exemplary. His lectures, for what many consider to be a "boring" topic, were funny and engaging. While most of the grade does rely on 6 tests + the final, they are multiple choice, and if you pay attention in class, take basic notes, and attend the review session that his TA's put out, you will pass with an A.

Great guy with funny and engaging lectures. Don't be afraid if you're not a great test taker because they're generally easy if you pay attention, and there's a curve. Lowest test is dropped. Never went to a TA review session, but heard they were good. Overall, a very nice GEP class and Dr. Green is a very passionate person.

Professor Green is one of my favorite professors this semester. His lectures were excellent and he is very good at explaining things. His tests are extremely fair, and the practice tests are representative of the actual tests. He curves the tests and the TA reviews are very helpful refreshers.

Professor Green is an amazing teacher and loves what he does. He makes the class fun and does not assign any HW outside of readings. I completed the class with a B+ w/o doing any of the readings.

A tough, but interesting class. For those with philosophy majors it's not too bad, others may struggle a little. He was a generous grader and wanted all of his students to succeed. A great professor to have.

great professor! he made all lectures entertaining and curved the tests. i ended with over a 100%, which is not too difficult if you just take notes and review before the tests. attendance is graded, but if you miss a lecture he will happily give you any materials missed. another plus is that there's little to no homework and no papers!

This is a class where he basically just talks the entire time and you do need to pay attention. He includes preview sessions before each test day which are very helpful. The only grading there is are tests. Go to lecture and test, thats it. It is essentially easy if you can study. He is pretty chill and funny and can make lectures interesting.

He gives you a lot of things to study, like practice quizzes and that stuff. I didn't like phi, but after his class I enjoyed it, the only thing is that every Friday there was a quiz, but he gave you the material to study, and if you attended to his lectures or read, you'd be fine.

Made sure every student understood why they got the grade they did through annotations on all our written assignments. Graded by 5 written assignments (3 are papers) so if you don't like writing probs not the best course. No exams. He is very passionate, & happy to help. Class content isn't easy but he makes it easier to understand, def recommend

The special topic he taught this semester was Rules. He made Kant comprehensible and raised interesting insights into his philosophy. That should be more than enough to signal to you how great of a professor he is. Other thinkers covered in the class were Wittgenstein, Aristotle, and Ronald Dworkin just to name a few. Dr. Green is the GOAT.

The content in Rules was pretty difficult but Dr. Green is incredibly helpful. He allows students to submit drafts for papers and gives in-depth commentary. He works very hard to help his students and going to his office hours almost ensures success. His courses are very rewarding and you come out a better writer, reader, and Phil-doer.

Professor Green makes this philosophy class engaging. While the grading is heavily focused on tests and quizzes, he provides helpful study materials like practice quizzes. Attendance is mandatory, but worth it - the lectures are entertaining. Unstuck AI was a great supplement for test prep.

The most caring professor I've ever had! Incredibly considerate surrounding the multiple hurricanes we had this semester, and always sent out messages reminding us of our upcoming quizzes/tests. I cannot stress enough: take this professor if you can! I wish I could take him for every class.

Lectures are with UCF Here, but he is pretty engaging (minus the rambling tangents). Six tests and a final make up the grade, and each test has a review led by student interns. The course is conceptually demanding, so it isn't the easiest A you can get for a GEP requirement; if you can manage your time, this class won't be hard.

Good class. The workload isnt too much and you don't even really need the book because you have the lectures. You just have weekly quizzes and a cumulative final, thats all. The professor is also awesome. Responds to emails quickly and is very accommodating and considerate. This class is a great introduction into philosophy. Would recommend.

He's probably the funniest professor I've had at UCF. I took W based Critical Thinking, and honestly loved the class and his online lectures so much. He also is clear on grading criteria, and gives really good feedback on quizzes. I really hope to be able to take more of his class

Professor Green was great, easy class. There is a textbook, but I didn't use it. Quizzes and final are the only things that make up your grade. You really just need the PowerPoints and some of the readings he assigns to do well in the class.

philosophy kinda makes me ill, but i honestly rly enjoyed this! it's fully online, but Bestie Green tries to make it fun with lectures/feedback + he sends reminders when assignments are due. 2 attempts per quiz = u actually get a chance to learn before ur gpa is tanked. he also won't laugh u out of office hours if ur completely lost, which is nice.

The whole course is just quizzes and a final exam at the end. If you really want to try you should probably read the powerpoints as he gives lecture videos and the powerpoint with it. On the quiz he tells you what you got wrong and why you got it wrong. Overall easy class !

I honestly knew nothing about philosophy before taking Professor Green's class, but I can truly say that I learned a lot! I found watching the lectures and taking notes to be the most helpful as I honestly didn't use the textbook. Keep in mind, though, that basically all grades come from quizzes and the final exam. Overall a good class!

Funny eccentric guy, cares a lot about philosophy. Course structure was easy to follow. Lecture 3 days and a weekly quiz, 2 tests and a final. Can be memorization heavy for tests. Concepts were shaky to grasp at first but easy by the end. 1 or 2 quizzes dropped. engaging lecture and won't cold call.I didn't talk at all and got an A.

I took critical thinking online. I did not have to use the textbook too much because he provides a lot of videos every week explaining the topics, he also has power points. The class is made up of quizzes for every lesson, a review quiz for the final, and a final exam. The class is well structured and easy to navigate.

The class was the most engaging one I've had so far at UCF. The readings were optional but very useful, and the information in the class was very well taught. I his class for anyone who still needs to fill their GEP 5 or 6

Get ready to do a lot of quizzes but they are easy. 21 quizzes and a final. Some of the quiz questions you have to make a table for or write out the answer. I did not use the textbook at all.

Dr. Green is the best professor I've had. Formal logic 2 was very weird and very cool and I think this is the best professor to teach it probably ever. He has awesome office hours, small curves on assignments and tests, and a passion for teaching. It's always a pleasure taking any of his classes. 🟦🔷

Professor Green taught every class, prepared a lecture and assigned readings. The class schedule and assigned readings are on the syllabus. Quizzes were every Friday on the material that we covered throughout the week. He taught the class well and I definitely learned a lot about philosophy.

Great professor and he shows that he cares about his students. His lectures are engaging and there are weekly quizzes along with three exams (the lowest quiz and exam gets dropped). It's a lot of memorization and not the super easy GEP class to take but as long as you pay attention, you'll ace this class!

I had this class 3 years ago. I'm writing this right now because I just watched him do like level 12 on the stair master for maybe 20 minutes without stopping. Truly one of the most inspirational people I've ever seen. Also, his class was pretty good. Very helpful during office hours. Would take again.

Dr. Green is a funny and personable guy who is very knowledgeable in the class material. While the class is very information-heavy, Dr. Green does a great job explaining the material in class. I'm not a philosophy major, but with the proper preparation am still able to keep up with his class well. Definitely would take this class again.

Professor green is a cool person, and I like the concept of formal logic. However, man, is this class hard. This is partially because I'm stupid, but I spent a lot of time trying to understand concepts. He is also a pretty understandable person when things come up. You'll be fine if you are super locked in.

Derek likes to add humor in his lectures and he explains the content of philosophy pretty well, even though there was a lot of information to read through. I highly recommend his class if you are looking to fill a GEP course. Two of your worst quizzes get dropped. The final had 95 questions!
