this is an awful teacher. hes rude....hard to understand...doesn't care about his students at all
His classwork is HARD, and his attitude is more SARCASTIC, but he is a very good teacher. He is willing to work with you - GO TO OFFICE HOURS! Yes, you will feel dumb, but hey that is because he is smarter than you. Trust me - he is! Not a class for those desiring an "easy A," but for those wanting to increase their knowledge of British Literature
Dr. Lowe is an awesome teacher, very funny and you will learn a LOT but you will have to work extremely hard in his class. Not for those wanting an easy "A". You will find yourself working on your paper hours a week if you want a B or better. Also, go to his Office Hours. You will need them!!
Dr. Lowe is arrogant and pretentious. His workload is borderline unreasonable. He is extremely knowledgeable, but utterly demoralizing. He is without a doubt THE BEST teacher I have ever had. Seriously. Is he difficult? Yes. But you learn, my God do you learn. South is lucky to have him.
Dr. Lowe is funny & an overall great professor. He is willing to help and work with you on your papers to make sure you get a desirable grade...NOTE: you WILL WORK HARD to achieve your grade & it is best you go 2 class or you will be behind(lost). Set in his ways but easy to work with if you are willing to listen.
An interesting guy, funny, and brilliant beyond reason. He's a great lecturer and is very helpful in office hours if you have any questions concerning your paper or anything under the poetic sun. Take anything he ever teaches; it's worth it just to be in the presence of such a large intellect.
Dr. Lowe was a hard teacher. You will work for the grade you get! In the end it will pay off. I ended up going into EH 102 doing better than I thought I would. Make sure you schedule office hours with him before a paper so he can go over it with you. He will tear it to shreds, but it will be worth it in the end!

He is the biggest jerk! If you go to his office hours he shreds your papers which is good, but then on the final he marks you off for anything you use of his. So I would not ever take him to save my life!! Complete waste of time and money! BUT if you are sarcastic and crude he favors you! I challenged him finally and I pulled a B!
Dr. Lowe was an extremely hard teacher. He will push you to your writing limits but you will really appreciate it when you get done. You should definitely take advantage of his office hours. When you're there he will tear you to shreds but your paper will be so much better. He is all around very knowledgeable of his material that he is teaching.

This is by far the best teacher I've ever had! Grant it, he is sarcastic and the class is difficult. But he is fun and pushs you hard to get the best out of you. <3 this class. Make sure to go to class and do your assignments on time. This is not an easy "A".

He is a very hard teacher but he knows what he is talking about!go to class and you'll do well. he does pick at people in the class for fun i.e. me but he makes the class very enjoyable :) he is awesome...I would recommend him any day

This teacher was the hardest teacher i've ever had ! .. Hates International students, he doesn't even give them a chance to do well... I WOULD NOT TAKE HIM EVEN IF HE IS THE ONLY ONE AVAILABLE
He is the hardest teacher ever. I mean it's hard to read. You can talk to him and tell him that you are not getting proper understanding and who cares. In his class I used all the resources available such as writing center and he still grades hard. IF YOU WANT TO PASS DONT TAKE HIM SORRY BUT HE IS A MESS AND I DO MEAN FORREAL!!!
LOVED HIM. He was the first teaher I have ever had in college and he was HARD. His essay's are all about like interpreting a text (hard) But he is so funny GO TO HIS OFFICE HOURS. Don't take unless you are a good writer and went to a really good high school. He doesn't teach you how to write but teaches you to write better. Pretty hot too.
Absolutely loved his class!! I am a much better writer now. If you are not ready for critisism, you might want to go find a push-over but if you want to learn, take his class. He will tell you if your paper sucks which to me, is very helpful. His sarcasm is hilarious which makes him HOT!

Attendance is a must and use his office hours! He is very entertaining and we spent the Summer semester working our butts off but he is a funny guy!Never a dull moment in this class for sure!
I think I know the previous comment we were in the same class. He is VERY hard. He expects you to work hard for your grade. Do not expect an A. Extremely difficuolt, but you WILL leave alot better than you started. He overall is a very good professor but VERY difficult.
He is incredibly hard and will force you to push yourself for an A. But if you do what he tells you, you will actually be a better writer. He can appear cynical and mean (he's just sarcastic) but don't be afraid of discussing your papers with him. You will probably fail if you don't. I honestly loved going to his class and the challenge of it.
This is a very difficult class. If you want to become a better writer then this is the class. If you are a very poor writer please go somewhere else because good writers even get shame in this class. He is overall a good instructor and will try to put you in the right direction, but don't expect it to be easy. He gives so many quizzes too.
Dr. Lowe is an excellent teacher. If you are lazy, do not take him. You will work, write, and learn how to become a better critical thinker. I thoroughly enjoyed the challenge. It made me a better writer in just a few months. If you are mature and focus on your work, you will enjoy this class. Oh....he is hilarious too

Loved Professor Lowe! Although his class was kind of hard, he really is a great teacher. And he is super funny! Oh and as soon as he gives you your topic for your papers, schedule office hours! His office hours fill up very fast.
By far my favorite teacher and still is and I miss his class. He may be tough but he is doing what most 101 teachers don't do and that is making you think critically. Hard class, but this is what a college level English class should be.
Dr. Lowe makes you work your butt off but in the end you will have learned more from than other teachers. Like others have said be sure to get office hours early! His office visits are very enlightening and a must for success in the class. If you want to get something out of this class take Dr. Lowe.

Dr. Lowe is the most interesting professor that I had this semester. If you want to succeed on assignments, you HAVE to make office hours with him. He will work wholeheartedly with you during his meetings while making you think critically to do the work. His class was more like a 400 level than a 101, but very interesting.
Mr. Lowe's class should be taken seriously, it is a 200 level class, however is graded as if it was 400. He will work with you during office hours(use them), however this class does not pertain to my degree, and ended up spending more time on this class then all others combined. If you're looking for an easy elective RUN
Great professor. Hard class. READ. Do the assignments or you will fail. GO TO CLASS. Missing more than three days will screw you into the ground. Interesting class, his humor is wonderful as is his sarcasm.
Super hard. You have to attend every class and do everything or you will fail. But he's really cool as a person. He's from Hawaii. I wouldn't take him unless you want to work really hard for maybe a B
Dr. Lowe is very knowledgeable on what he teaches but is not a good teacher to people who don't have an interest in British literature. He expects his students to be at a high level on the subject even though it is a non-major course! He is rude and talks down to students! Expects students to be on time but he starts and ends late without caring!
BEST TEACHER I have had yet! He is hard on his students and expects a lot, but if you dedicate yourself to doing what he ask of you then you will do great. ALSO SCHEDULE OFFICE HOURS! Best professor I have had at South. He is tough and you will invest a lot of time into this class. All for the better though as he will overly-prepare you for future academic writings. Its EH101.. if it's too tough, you shouldn't be in college - end of story.
Dr. Lowe is a VERY tough grader. Don't take him, he will make you work very hard for a B or a C and will then tell you that a C is a "good grade." If you're looking for an easy Eng 101 teacher this is not him. His name should be Dr. Pooopieee

If you are looking for an easy A or an easy way through you should look elsewhere, but if you want to become a better writer at the college level and be able to write well thought out papers you should take Dr. Lowe. He knows what he is talking about and is willing to teach you if you are willing to learn. He is also a funny guy.
I would never advise anyone to take this class. He's the worst teacher I've ever had. He's hateful, rude, disrespectful, arrogant, and unfair when it comes to grading. Lowe has NO respect for anyone. He made me, along with other students, cry. He has thrown a large dictionary at me twice. I have worked harder in this class than I have ever before (I have had all A's in ever other class). He gives his 101 students the same work as his senior lit class. He grades the same for both classes as well.
This class was by far the hardest; however, he really is trying to give his students the tools to be excellent writers. If you make office hours with him, he is extremely helpful with each of your papers. I left the semester knowing more about how to write papers before I started. He became one of my favorite professors.

If you are looking for an easy elective, STAY AWAY! Dr. Lowe definitely makes you work for your grade. Making a good grade in his class isn't impossible, but your grade truely reflects your effort. GO TO OFFICE HOURS!!! That is the ONLY reason I made the grade I did. He is very honest and will tell you like it is which I found very helpful!

Took Lowe for EH 101, EH215 and EH216. By far my favorite professor I've had. He wants students to actually learn. May be a hard class but you will get out of it with so much more knowledge. He's very interesting and engaging!

Dr. Lowe is extremely rude. He picks on students and thinks it's funny to cut them off. If you're thinking about using your phone to pass the time, I advise you not to. He will ALWAYS see and will gladly embarrass you. His 2 exams are composed of random passages you have to identify and explain, and he is very unclear on how he wants your 2 papers.
I've always breezed through English classes, but this class made me question if I was an idiot. He is mean, and tough, and a lot of people don't pass this class. If you want to work your ass off for a C then this is your class, but I will say I did come out as a better writer as much as I hated this professor.
Dude thinks he's teaching a grad British lit class. He has probably put many off to majoring in anything literature related, and he is incredibly rude on top of it. Every athlete who accidentally ends up in this class is changed out by a director just for the fact he is not easy to pass.
If you have the option, do not take him. I learned a lot but it was a struggle the whole way.... I had to really really really try to even pass and I normally make A's
I was a student who tested with the OSSS and he would call me out in front of the class to ask about my scheduling. Once I came to his office hours he assumed and asked "what you're dyslexic right?" I did not appreciate his attitude toward this (no I'm not dyslexic) and would not recommend someone with OSSS to take his class.
He makes you work for your grade. There are a lot of readings that he signs after every class period. Not much homework. The only important grades are what you make on your midterm and final. You have to write an in class essay for both. If you expect for this class to be an easy A, forget it.
Lowe is probably the best English professor, because he is helping you become a better writer. He gives you good feedback and explains everything clearly. But you have to work to get an 'A' in his class. If you pass his class than you can get through the college courses.

Worst class I have ever taken and I took class's at Spring Hill. Stay far away from his class. You must memorize names and authors for over 25 poems written in middle English and write a in class essay while at the same time often identifying atleast 15 of the poems name and the authors name from short two to three sentence clips from the passages.
Lowe has a passion for his 200 level classes and it shows. He's a tough professor, but he's more than willing to help you through anything that may be hindering your studies. If you work hard and listen to the help he gives you, you'll pass the class, but not without effort. I highly suggest taking him if you like abrasive wit.

Lowe is a very tough grader. However, I can honestly say that i walked out a much better writer and more prepared for 102. He is very sarcastic, so you have to take that from him a lot. But to me, he is a very good teacher. Dont take if you want your GPA to suffer though. No one in our class made above a B on a paper. 5 Papers total.
He's very blunt and tough when it comes to grading, but will talk it out with you if you need more understanding. He's hilarious in lectures, and goes very in depth into understanding and arguing writings.

I would only ever recommend this course to someone going for an English major. This is the hardest English 101 class of the options available and most of your grade is crammed into the last paper for which he doesn't prepare you for.

I took him for CAS and it was harder than my English class. Hardest teacher you can take for CAS. He is so rude and hated me. Save your GPA and get out NOW
There is no question that Dr. Lowe is a very tough grader, but if you meet with him in office hours, he helps you tremendously. Don't let him scare you with the in class quizzes because the papers you write in class are what he is most concerned about. I was terrified to take Brit Lit with him, but I learned sooooo much! He is a great professor.
Honestly, he will make you feel very stupid. Students are very scared to give any input in this class. He has no problem calling you out. If you go to his office hours expect to get recked, but he will steer you in the right direction at least, but while recking you. If you like a rude professor, he wins.
He is a good instructor. The people here who rated him low didn't work for their grade. He explains exactly what he wants from you and is VERY clear on deadlines.
You can tell he knows his stuff but he expects you, as an undergraduate (probably not majoring in English) to know it just as well as he does. He is a difficult grader and nothing seems to please him. This was suppose to be an elective for me but I was struggling in it just the same as I was in organic chemistry. People complaining on here want a gimme grade. If you do not put in the work, you will fail. You must know the texts and you must spend time thinking critically while writing. He tell's you exactly what quotes to use on your papers. He is very, very blunt in grading but gives good feedback. Apply his feedback quickly. He is a challenging professor.

I am a double major senior with a cumulative 3.9 GPA and this was one of my general education credits. This was hands down the hardest class I have ever taken. No clear guidelines for exams or essays. He is incredibly rude and disrespectful to his students. I came out with a new understanding of my potential but in a toxic learning environment.
Do not expect to get an A in this class. He grades papers as if his students have graduated already with a degree in English. He is very intimidating and can be rude at times, but he challenges you to think and will give you the grade that you deserve.

There are five essays in this course. Expect readings every night for homework. There are quizzes almost every time the class meets so be prepared for that. Make an appointment for office hours with him for all essays to maximize your chance to receive a good grade. Last semester, everyone in my class who didn't do that FAILED MOST ASSIGNMENTS!!!!!
Tends to have a condescending to tone. Carries a "doesn't want to be here mood". Does not seem to like his position. If you care about literature or being respected, he's not your guy.
He is very difficult when he is explaining the assignment it is difficult to understand what he wants us to do, he gives off an I don't want to be here attitude and he is a very harsh grader. Gives assignment that probably have never done before and doesn't explain it but expects you to do it right. I would suggest you don't take his class.
After making high As in my EH101 and 102 classes and having a high 3 GPA, I didn't expect to possibly make a D. I was at 95% of classes, took notes, and asked questions, and I still never had a clue exactly what he expected. He was so rude too. I wish I spent my $1000 on tuition to be in a room with a better professor.
Dr Lowe was not the easiest professor you definitely have to work for your grade.. BUT he helped my writing tremendously and his love for literature and poetry actually makes the class more interesting. Will take again for EH216

Very rude and disrespectful to his students. Expects you to know everything about the course just as well as he does. Not clear at all on what is expected on tests, quizzes, and papers. Makes you feel stupid if you have questions about anything. Lacks professionalism and has no business teaching classes at South. Avoid his courses at all costs.
Dr. Lowe is a good professor because he does not just give away his As. You get to decide what your grade is! This is a good class for freshmen to take because it makes them better writers, which makes their other writing classes easier. Write down every thing he says for discussions and papers and go to his office hours and you will pass!
He has 5 papers due and rushes when you get to the last month and a half. He is arrogant and narcissistic all the time. He has called his student from other classes names from a to z. He is the most unprofessional doctor of English I have ever seen. He yells that he has better stuff to do than to teach. If you like your grade point do not take him!
He is the toughest grader I have ever seen. He is not clear on what should be done on papers and does not care if you are struggling. I think he has tenure and they honestly can not get rid of him. If you are person who cares about there mental health, avoid him like the plague. He is super rude and we move our desks before, to get away from him.

He has told me to shut up multiple times and is very harsh on his grading. Your mental health will ruined. He doesn't excuse any missed class, one girl even had surgery & he didn't care!
I considered dropping his class but Im glad I didnt. He has made me a better writer and thats why Im taking him for 102. He can be condescending but if you show you care, he will respect you. Set up office hours ASAP or you wont get a spot. Office hours are the reason I passed.
He was a horrific teacher and acts like hes god. He roasts all his students in class and brags about his education. I referred to him as Mr. Lowe in class and he called me out and gave me a very hard time because I didnt refer to him as a doctor. He treated me like a little kid and made me try again. He is a very hard grader.
Unless you are an English Major or you want to torture yourself I would not take Dr. Lowe. Hes extremely egotistical, expects his students to know all the material before its even assigned, and wants you to feel like an idiot. Dont take him unless youre a good writer willing to kiss ass so you make an A.
He was a very tough teacher! I had to work very hard to pass all his essays and his class. While he is a very tough teacher he does give helpful writing tips for future classes and essays. He can also be rude at times then try to cover it up with a joke.

Please, for your own sake, don't read beyond this comment. This professor is a living nightmare. You will not recieve any form of positive feedback. He is very antagonistic in class and seems to enjoy putting unnecessary stress on his students. There is no clear grading criteria. The class started with 31 students, and only 9 passed.
He is the best English teacher I've had at South. I took him for EH101 and EH 215. I plan on taking him for EH 216 too. He might be a tough grader, but you actually earn your grade. He makes you learn and grow as a writer, and I'm not an english major or minor. As long as you put in the work, he will help you and you will get a good grade.
Dr. Lowe is 1 of 2 great teachers of the English language I've had so far. The 1st, was my AP Lang instructor in 11th grade. Here's how to make an A: 1. Read and note ANYTHING you learn in the required readings that he quizzes on. Terms, dates, little tidbits of info are all important. 2. Ask him how to write an application essay. 3. Test well.
Dr. Lowe is the worst during 8 ams. He calls everyone out that yawns and complains about being there himself. He curses quite often during class, not professional at all. HIs feedback is super rude and only wants you writing his way. Very rude and made me pay $93 for a textbook we don't use and sends us stuff to print out instead. Do not take.

This man knows his stuff. He knows Literature, and is very passionate about it. But he behaves unprofessionally. He takes pleasure in calling out and embarrassing his students in front of the whole class. Failed half of my EH101 and was such an unforgiving BUTTHOLE in his grading and lectures that he had 12 cases filed against him THIS semester. I've seen the comments he gave to students on their papers after grading and it's just an unacceptable way to talk to students. He is highly intelligent and wants things done perfect. Not an EH101 professor.
To a-lot of people Professor Lowe is such a rude person and I'm not going to lie and say he isn' but the feedback he gives is always valid and will come in handy in the future. DO NOT TAKE!! This class was awful. I had him for my first ever college english class and he crushed all his students. Ended up forming a group with 10+ of the students to talk to Dean about him. Expected so much and gave the students so little feedback
I took him for EH 101 and 102 and wish I could have taken him for my Lit class. His writing style has set my up for success in every other class I have taken. If you show up to class, do your work ON TIME, take notes and go to office hours, you will pass this class and learn so much in the process. If you arent willing to try don' take his class.
WHATEVER YOU DO DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS. He is rude and will call you out in front of everyone. He is so mean and harsh on grading papers for no reason.
Do whatever you can to get out of this class. He calls you out for things and is just flat out rude! He will tell you he wants an essay one way then critique you for making it the way he wants it. You dont really learn in his class you have to see him in office hours in order for him to help you. So if you have a job it probably wont work out.
Dr. Lowe comes off as a tough teacher with harsh criteria to most. I would say the way he teaches and grades is exactly how an English composition teacher should. He gives helpful feedback on where you are falling short. He is always open to office hours for guidance. I highly recommend Dr. Lowe if you want to learn how to create quality papers.
He makes you work for your grade. I hated this class. Most of the kids in my class hated it as well. Lots of kids dropped the class.
A lot of people will say the dont like Dr. Lowe, but I love him. He can be a tough grader, but if you pay attention in class, ask questions, do the (short) assigned readings, and go to office hours (when drafting essays - great feedback) you wont have an issue. He makes you a better writer and hes honestly one of my favorite professors. 9/10
Let me start by saying this class was a nightmare. I took Professor Lowe my first year of college. He was terrible. Constantly talked down to students for unnecessary reasons. I had a B at midterm and he gave me and I complete for my final grade. If you don't want to have be mentally abused, don't take him.
