Dr. Madden shown such encouragement towards me. I am a disabily student, and he goes beyond the call of duty to help me anyway he can. I think he is great and a great sense of humor also! He tells me not to give up and keep trying! He is a great motivation to me!

Mr. Madden is the coolest bio teacher ever! He's very humorous and everything he lectures about is on the test so you just have to study your notes. He is very encouraging and extremely nice. He appreciates students like myself that takes your time on lab so he doesnt mind if youre the last person.

I hate bio normally but Madden is such a great teacher I have learned to love it. If I could have him for every bio class I would definately become a Bio major. You will learn in his classes but most of what you learn is very practical. By far the best science teacher!

The best teacher i've had at JC, this guy can make annalagies for anything. the class is a little difficult. you have to rewrite your notes if you want to do well in this class. A+

Prof Madden is awsome. If you have to or want to take Bio, take it with Madden. He is super nice, super cool and super helpful. Labs are twice a week, but they are fun!!Lecture isn't mandatory, you get a lab manual with the notes in the back, but go to lecture to learn about the diagrams that might be on testes! Study and you'll do great! Take him!

A great teacher. We hiked through the national park at Yosemite, and we kayaked with otters, and went for a long walkabout in some desert. I missed one class and had to work hard to catch up, but otherwise the work was about right and the teacher was honest and supporting. Great class

He is a good teacher and teaches very well, you learn a lot in his class, but his class is pretty difficult.There are 5-6 test and are pretty hard so you have to study and his lab test are hard as well, but he teaches you to so you could understand the material.He doesn't give homework so your grade is realied on tests only

If you are planning to take biology, TAKE his class! He is an incredible teacher, wants you to learn & does everything in his power to make that happen. If you are willing to put the time in to study his online powerpoint lectures (on campus lecture is not required), you will pass w/ flying colors. Every lecture test question is MC from those.

OMG three words yummy yummy yummy!!! Brains and beauty packed in this pint size of a man. So cute that I just wanted to put him in my pocket and could ask him questions all day long. Probably one of the best teachers within a 200 mile raidus. I had his class twice a week and found myself thinking of him once a day. He was a great joy!

Amazingly sweet teacher, took this class in the Summer and received a B however I recommend taking this course in the Spring and Fall if you want an A. Too much to study in only 5 weeks. If you study the material you will do great. All in all one of my favorite classes so far.

I learned so much...was lucky to get dr. madden's class because his teaching ways was perfect for me. He's trying to start up a physcial therapy assistant pathway at mjc, which will be cool when it gets going.

Took his class a year ago but I just had to post, he is so hot! The material is difficult so make sure to utilize things like mnemonics he is the best professor to take for bio 116 if you are going into nursing as I have found that the material covered in this class closely matches anatomy topics therefore making your life easier in anatomy class.

Very helpful in labs as he checks on every student. He's in my opinion what embodies a teacher. Just make sure you study everyday because you'll have a quiz every week. Not to worry though, he doesn't over whelm you with material :)

I had Dr. Madden spring '14 and now taking Anatomy. Everything that he teaches you will follow you into Anatomy and go deeper into detail. So actually try and learn the PowerPoints for it will help you in the long run. I just quickly viewed them an hour before quizzes and passed the class with a B+. Amazing personality. Fun semester. Dr, Madden is a very involved and loves teaching Biology. I enjoyed the lab portions of the class, he gives good feedback on your lab drawings and makes sure you understand the concept. His tests are clear and to the point, he wont test you on something he didn't teach. His online lectures are interactive and are essential for the weekly quizzes.

I took a Bio class with Dr. Madden about 10 years ago. It was the best class I have ever taken. The tests were tough but his lectures were so enrertaining, informative and enthused that I never had a problem passing a test because I WANTED to pay attention and took good notes. I still use what he taught me in daily life and I am forever grateful.

Dr. Madden is a great professor. In Bio 116, he online had one text book and that was a lab manual. He has ALL of his information in his lectures online. There definitely is a lot of material to study for but he gives you time and feedback. He really wants you to succeed in his class. Just show up for class and do the work. You'll be fine. (;

Funny, caring, has medical training which is very helpful if you are going into the medical work force. ANAT 125 - summer hybrid. Testing - directly from lectures and labs, no tricky questions. For an A- start strong with the first tests (every 2 days summer) It's easier to keep your grade up than raise it. He makes this summer madness possible

There are about five lectures for every exam and lab EVERY two Weeks so if you take the test unprepared you'll fail like so many in my class. Go over the lectures every day and if you can form a study group because it's not an easy class. DrMadden is great and is there for you if you need help. Spend a lot of your time studying the LECTURES.

Great professor, teaches very hard courses yet makes it super easy for me. Love the Hybrid format and how the class is laid out. The tests are even favorable as we are allowed to walk around and be on our feet while test taking. The courses are serious so they do require lots of studying, but there is no reason as to not passing these courses.

The labs are incredibly easy as well as the lab tests. He does drop the 2 lowest test scores as well. Would recommend.

Has a different way of testing that is so visual and I like. did never had a class like this where I learned so much but never feel totally lost. Half the class dropped and there is a month still left, so he is not easy. But my grade is good and this is my best class ever.

I took Anatomy twice. The third time with him was a little bit easier because he grades more on the Lab potion than the lecture. He is the only teacher that care more on the Lab because he know it matter more the lab portion on the work field. Dr. Madden is one of the greatest professors I have had! He makes quite a bit of mistakes but is a very chill and cool guy. He's very patient and supportive! his lectures are a little boring for hybrid, but they are the exact same for the test. He adds pictures on the test that correspond with the slides. There is a lot of memorization in this class, but he finds ways to help you remember. You need a sketchbook and the lab manual, but luckily both are inexpensive. He grades easily. I took his hybrid course and it was my first college science course. There was a test every 2 weeks on a different subject which was a lot. He drops your 2 lowest grades, which helped, but does not give extra credit. The class was not impossible but not easy. Took Dr. Madden's Biology 116 Hybrid class last spring. Excellent Professor and very enjoyable lab class. Lectures were online in the form of YouTube videos also accompanied by PDF format. If you are serious about a career in the medical field, or more specifically, Nursing, I definitely recommend this class before attempting Anatomy!

Study the lectures with time and also the labs. For every lab you draw, but make sure you are studying them as you draw them. He is very straight forward on what he expects. Also exams are done while standing up not the usual. Hands down best professor. He cares about his students.

This is the first class I've taken with Dr. Madden. It was hybrid class, with lectures online and in-person labs. He taught this class with an emphasis on real-world application. He is incredibly smart, funny, and engaging. He is an asset to MJC. He advises studying a bit each night and I recommend that as well to be successful on the exams.

Madden was a really good professor but this semester was a struggle for a few reasons! Less than half way through the year, Madden had to leave class for the semester and had to have someone fill in for him. That professor wasnt too helpful and this resulted in a not very successful semester. Still passed the class with a B but didnt learn much.

Amazing Professor who cares about his students. He has a way with words that allows students to comprehend the material being taught. The lab drawings also reinforced the material. Studying for exams was easy because students have the option to rewatch the online lectures over and over again instead of having to read a book.

This Bio class is a hybrid class and is fairly easy if you do the labs and study the online lectures. Coming into this class, I knew NOTHING about bio but he really broke it down and helped the students understand in depth. Would take it again!

He is fair teacher, good, and nice . I am so happy that I took him for anatomy. I will tell whoever wants to take anatomy to take this teacher.

Oh man, where do I even begin? This man is much more than a professor. He is a mentor. I've enjoyed every single minute of his class and 100% recommend Dr. Madden to anyone for Bio 116 and any other courses that he teaches. You will not only not regret his class, but wish he was your professor for all of your other courses. He is that great.

This was a hybrid course with video lectures online and lab in face-to-face classes. I learned so much better this way. Dr. Madden is very caring about each of his students and pushes them to succeed past their understanding. Study 3 hours a day each day, and you will fly through the exams. It is a lot of content but everything flows together.

Professor Madden is really great! Took his bio class online and if you don't study, you will not pass. He is caring and his lectures are on point. He also discusses the important things during lab time that will be on the exam. My advice is to do not skip classes and study hard. For those taking it online, print lecture and study. Exam has images.

I took the hybrid class for this course. For lab I had Professor Basey, and for lecture it was online with Professor Madden teaching. Professor Madden's tests will results entirely from the lectures! I only saw him a couple of times during lecture but he's very friendly and funny. This course was great!

Wonderful professor from day one he is very precise as to what he expects of his students.. I took his hybrid class which was convenient to have access to his lectures from home.. Attendance is a must as you get your points for lab hours.. If you study the lectures you will not have a problem passing the exams and he lets you drop the lowest

I took Dr. Derek Madden for an Anatomy course over the summer that just ended yesterday, that was from 5/4-6/4. Anatomy is a difficult subject overall but Dr. Madden does an amazing job of making the subject as easy as possible. There were only 7 quizzes that were tested from lecture and lab and 7 lab assignments, no curveball questions at all!

Dr. Madden was the perfect teacher to take for anatomy. Hes always easily accessible outside of class, provides moral support, and shows that he really cares for his students. He understands the class is difficult but does everything in his power to help you succeed. Im so glad that I chose him!

Dr. Madden is by far the best professor I have ever had at MJC. He takes the time to ensure his students know, understand, and can apply the material to really life. I took his human biology 116 class during the summer and it was awesome. This class was helpful and translated into all of my other classes. He is very understanding and super funny!

Professor Madden has been phenomenal this semester even in the middle of a pandemic! His grading is very clear and there are no surprises. Every other week your exam and lab are due. Allowing you plenty of time to STUDY his videos and drawings for labs. He accepted my late lab with no deduction, he wants you to succeed! Highly recommend!

I had him for two semesters for Biology and Anatomy, and he is by far the best professor I have ever had. He pushed me to actually learn unlike a lot of professors. He does not give extra credit opportunities because he knows that if you actually learn the material, you will pass easily. He gave plenty of opportunities for extra studying one on one

His lectures and the opportunities that he gives for extra studying with his guidance are your key to success. He has written the some of the best tests that I have ever taken, and if you actually studied, each exam should be an easy A.

Professor Madden was by far my favorite professor I had this semester. His lectures are very straight to the point which I love. The exams are easy if you study the lectures and the labs. He makes you work for your grade, but it is very obvious how much he cares about his students succeeding his class. Overall loved him as a professor and person!

Dr. Madden was a great teacher. He posted his lectures online that went through slide shows so you can take notes and pause when needed. He really cares about his students and makes it a point to give specific feedback on your work. His exams are a little hefty but can be passed by studying! Loved this professor, definitely recommend!

I took Biology 116 with Professor Madden and I cannot say enough great things about him! His lectures are online and he makes them interesting and so easy to follow along with. He does use Proctorio for tests but as long as you pay attention to the lectures and you will pass. I learned so much in this class, would definitely take it again!

Dr. Madden was an amazing professor. I took his accelerated Human Biology course and it was a lot of work and memorization for tests, but it was the most information I have ever learned! His lectures were great and he explained everything well. He was also very caring and was always helpful. I totally recommend him, you will learn a lot.

Dr. Madden is truly the best Biology teacher!! His video slide lectures are absolutely amazing, and fun to watch. I was never good in biology, but after taking this class from Dr. Madden, I was inspired to join the medical field. I highly recommend this class. You don't need a text book, as his lectures are enough!!

You can really tell that Professor Madden cares about his students and wants them to succeed in this class as well as their careers further from this class. He is very clear about his assignments and his tests were based off of his clear lectures. There are no surprises and I would definitely take a class with him again! Great professor overall!

I just finished taking Biology 111. You can tell that Dr Madden really wants his students to succeed. No books needed as his quizzes are based off of his lectures which are clear and concise. Always gave extra points for every lab which saved my A from dropping to a B twice. No notes on quizzes so you really have to study. You will pass if you try.

he's one of the best professors I've had at MJC. his lectures makes a difference, all you have to do is study everyday and you should be able to get an A. his labs are easy too. the tests are easy if you study for them. the only thing i didn't like was proctorio, but he isn't hard on it, like if your mom walks in or whatever he wont get mad

BEST TEACHER EVER! I took his Bio 116 online and the structure was very easy to follow. His lectures are informative and funny to watch and easy to study. He tests directly off his lecture . If you fail its all on you as he gives you every resource needed to pass. He's flexible and understanding. Highly recommend taking him for Bio and Anatomy.

I loved Bio 116 with Dr Madden! This was my first bio class in a long time but as long as you study, its easy to do well in this class! I loved doing the labs because you have creative freedom and get to combine art and science which helps me learn.I also loved reading the comments after turning lab in.I will definitely be taking him for Anatomy!

Professor Madden is amazing! Both Dr. Madden and Professor Glenn Basey gave great lectures and feedback on the labs. The work load is perfect for people with busy schedules. I had an issue while taking a quiz and Dr Madden had done everything in his power to help me out. He puts a lot of effort in his students and makes sure you enjoy the course!!

Taking this course was great! The lectures are very helpful for exams and his labs as well. You will need to study and put in the time but if you do you'll be successful at this course. He also emailed back in a timely matter if you had questions. Would take another class with him.

Taken with Prof Madden and Basey; Madden did the lectures and I showed up to Basey for labs which are easy, and tests. Tests every week or so, fairly long but graded on a curve, based on lectures, multiple choice, and also drops lowest score. I enjoyed this class a lot and was a good way to ease myself back into showing up in-person again!

Although I didn't study much, I passed with an A. He's an incredible man and became a friend/mentor this semester. He cares about students, loves to talk (though it may not appear so), and likes to get to know the people taking his courses. Ask questions (even how his day is going or how he is) and treat him like a friend, he'll appreciate it.

Dr. Madden is a really good teacher for bio 116. You don't have homework, unless you didn't finish the lab in class. Grades combine with labs and exams. He gives extra credit on labs when you draw them nicely and add detail. He is outgoing and makes you feel comfortable. If you have a problem feel free to talk to him. I recommend him.

His class was such a delight, I never had issues when it came to completing assignments and studying. Some of the assignments could be done at home, he is a humble person and truly cares for his students. Overall I enjoyed having a semester with him

Exams are roughly 2 weeks apart. Lecture videos are online but he provides a pdf version which is all I used to study. They're about 20+ pages for each unit. Labs are really easy. One of the humblest professors who really cares about his students. You will not regret taking him. Just don't procrastinate studying the lecture or lab. He's the best.

Dr. Madden is awesome. He gives extra credit in his labs if you hand draw and show effort in your work. We had an exam every other week (65-70 questions), coupled with a lab. Do a little bit of studying every day, and you ought to easily pass with an A. Proctorio was a mandatory extension for this course, but we had zero issues with it.

Kind, caring, and genuine professor. His resume alone speaks volumes but his hands on approach to learning made this class easy, fun, and very engaging. He puts his students first and teaches the importance of taking care of yourself when going into the medical field. His teaching style is one of a kind and I would def recommend taking his class!

I suggest showing up for all labs even though he says you can miss 3 and still pass. Have to draw pictures of your labs, I'm no artist and he says not an art class. You will work with partners sometimes on some assignments. Watch lectures online and just do labs in class.

Dr. Madden is wonderful. He is very understanding and accommodating. Love his hands-on approach to teaching anatomy. 7 exams total & the final is not cumulative. Labs require lots of drawing. Extra credit to those who put in the extra effort. Not an easy class, so you have to put in the work. Lots of memorization. Please take him. He is the best.

Anatomy is a tough subject but he is the best professor for this class. Labs are twice a week in person & 7 exams total (no final). Lectures are online. Tests are accurate to lecture. If you study, you will pass. Seriously the most caring & understanding professor ever. Do yourself a favor and take this class with him!!!!

Dr. Madden is easily the best professor I have taken a course with. He's so kind and caring with his students. You can tell he is really focused on his quality of a lecture or lesson. He wants to make sure we understand the material. The tests are very heavy on grades, but all tests are taken from lecture. He goes above and beyond for his students.

One of the best professors at MJC definitely someone I would take again and would hang out with. Very likable person I have a great deal of respect for him. He is very relaxed so you have to be proactive with the work!

Highly recommend taking Dr.Madden for Anatomy. Lecture online. The study guide is really all you need. Study that everyday and you will pass! He is very kind and wholesome. If you take him, be kind to him. He must be protected at all costs.

I really enjoyed this class it was very easy to follow with Dr. Madden. He is very organized and I thought I was going to struggle and have so much work for this class but it was the complete opposite. He's amazing!!

No extra credit so make sure you take his class seriously. Exams are taken by walking around the class with the questions being on the desks and the lab portion was mostly in the back of the class. The study guide is all you need but the lectures are a plus. Lab is mostly drawing so I skipped a lot but probably would've done better if I went so go!

I have had a great experience with Professor Madden. He is very clear on what is required to pass the class, he communicates very well, lectures are easy to follow, there are print outs of the lectures, quizzes are easy and intense, but it was better to take them at a faster speed then second guess myself. Overall, had a positive experience!

Just put in the time, do the work and you will pass his class. Ask questions.

Professor Madden makes Bio 116 a surprisingly enjoyable class. His teaching style is engaging, and he genuinely cares about student learning. The workload is manageable, and unstuck AI proved helpful for exam prep.

I love his labs. Very organized and answered to emails fast. I would take him again. Exams were timed but doable.

Dr.Madden has been hands down one of the best professors I've had here at MJC! His class consist of labs and quizzes. One week you have lab the other week is lab and quiz. He has lecture videos that are online that you have to study for. If you study the lectures, passing his quizzes are easy! 100% would take this class again.

I recommend Doctor Madden. You do got to study for the exam's, but its basically the same as the lessons. You go to class for the lab and study on your free time! Chill class.

Amazing professor! He is so kind and makes you feel comfortable asking any questions. The class consists of only quizzes and labs. His quizzes are laid out on the desk with pictures, which makes them less intimidating. However, be prepared to STUDY! His lectures are great, and there are no trick questions.

Teacher is amazing and cares about his students success. You mainly have an exam every 2 weeks and all lecture videos are online which makes it easy. You just really have to rewatch them as much as possible. Exams and labs are what make up your overall grade. Exams are strictly based on the lecture videos. Would definitely recommend this class!

Dr. Madden is easily one of the best professors I've had. His lectures are clear and easy to follow, and he makes great use of lab time by focusing on assignments that reinforce the lecture material through both drawing and hands-on activities. Grades are based on bi-weekly quizzes and lab work, so as long as you put in the effort, you'll do well.

I took Dr Madden for BIO116 and loved him as a professor so much that I just had to take him for ANAT125. Use your lab time as much as you can, ask him questions and he will help you out as best as he can. Really awesome professor and genuinely wants to see his students succeed in his classroom. This professor understands students more than any other professor. Teaches only what is necessary and does not drag class on. He has a great memory and makes it easy to show up and learn. The material isn't very easy so you will need to study his lectures and come to lab. He grades almost entirely on tests so study hard.
