THIS GUY KNOWS HIS STUFF

This guy is by far the best humanities teacher that i have ever encountered. The work requirements are fairly minimal, but you still learn a lot about humanities at the same time. This is once class that i dont want to skip and i dont want to fall asleep in.

This man is hilarious, brilliant, and totally engaging. I recommend getting him for a class longer than 50 min. because as soon as you get in there you leave and I promise you'll want to stay. Possibly the best professor of all time.

He is awesome; my only regret is that I don't have him for a three hour class! His lectures are very thought provoking, I actually find myself sharing a lot of the various ideas and/or philosophies I learn from the class with my friends. I would definitely recommend him if you want to be bombarded with interesting ideas and cultures.

Derek is one of the best professors that I have ever had, he enjoys what he is teaching, and he makes it easy to understand! His class is so exciting, you never know what the topic is going to be about, there is never a dull moment!!!

So much fun. No gore factor left behind. He tells it like it is not like it should be.

Super easy class. He loves the sound of his own voice and rambles on about his opinions and theories. He repeatedly bursts out in laughter while lecturing. Its a bit strange. He is a very eccentric character.

He's a really cool, laid back guy who knows A LOT. You can ask him about anything having to do with the class and more and he has the answer. He understands that we're paying for the class and we should have the freedom to make our own decisions. For once I liked coming to a class!

Some students think he is cool, He's okay to me. I think he could be a much better teacher if he really wanted to teach us something but what he is interested in. He is passionate about his religious beliefs whatever they are, but kinda of out there. He has a fun personality.

Amazing professor, very passionate and very knowledgeable on his subject. He should not be at a community college, definitely has the ability for an university. I missed a test, got a B on the paper, a C on another test and still somehow got an A. And learned a lot.

Menchan is AMAZING!!! He is most likely the most knowlegable prof on the campus. Although he may loose you at times he makes sure to bring you back in. I have nothing but good things to say about him.

GREAT teacher!! Take him! He's very smart and knows what he's talking about! Lecture class, but he will repeat anything you need to know! He helps you out with anything he can and also holds some pretty hilarious classes! you learn so much without giving it a second thought.

Prof Menchan is very cool. You will be challenged to think during his fun lectures. He speaks like he's talking to a friend on the street. He treats you like a thinking adult. There is only lectures and READ the book, then test every three chapters. That's it. No home work, no papers!

Who doesn't love Menchan? He genuinely loves what he is teaching and that makes all the difference. If there are any negative ratings on here it is only because he completely tore them down academically because they thought they could "challenge" his argument. Ha. Yeah right. He is brilliant.

An amazing teacher. He gives the most interesting lectures. I hardly read the book because it put me to sleep but his lectures always made you think. Take good notes from what he writes on the board and study your study guides and you will make an A.

He is the type of teacher who makes a 3 hours class exciting. I could listen to him teach for 6 hours a day and never get tired. He made me super passionate about reading and philosophy.

He was the most exciting teacher to be around. I was always eager to go to his class every week. Its a very easy class as long as you attend because if you miss the notes you get to go fishing for the study guide answers in the book(not as easy as it sounds)never was kept the whole class and he knew his stuff. I would recomend the class to anyone.

He was hilarious to listen to when sitting behind me and watching other students give presentations. I'm not at all interested in the class he teaches so it was rather boring and time consuming for me (required class). He seemed like a cool guy and interested in what he is teaching about. Really nice guy too.

Amazing professor!! Very opinionated and knowledgeable. Take notes and preferably a recorder. Class is ALWAYS interesting and lively. tests are easy but should read the book if not at least skim it. Had to do a paper that's 4-5 pgs. long. all in all it was a fun class. i actually learned a lot!

Phenomenal professor. Definitely recommended to anyone willing to truly learn about humanities and other views. Be prepared to hear cursing and hear your God's name thrown around without care, though.

I wouldn't have to think twice about taking another class with him. I learned more from him in one semester then I did spending 17 years in the church. He is a phenomenal teacher.

I had him last semester and this semester. He is a very cool professor but he gets old pretty quick. take him one semester but give yourself a break before you take him again. Oh and his classes attract very annoying nerds, so be aware if you have low patience

Great teacher. simple as that. If you wear your heart on your sleeve, or get your feelings hurt easily, take another teacher. If you want the facts, as well as an entertaining time in class, take menchan. The man is a genius as well as a talented cello player.

Had him for online. Not the best teacher for online; he's disorganized. Syllabus is vague, things don't always post when they are supposed to, and in person test time/dates are TBA until a few days prior. He does spark interesting debates and his assignments were fair and interesting. I'd imagine he is great to have in person, just not online.

Simple: a major university-style teacher. if smeonre is not mature, or cant support their views, hes not for them. but for eveyon intersted in thinking out of the box, take him. he challenges us to thnk for ourselves. he has haters, but all good leaders do. not a sheep, and not a coward. like him or not he knows what he's talkin about.

gruff exterior but knows hsi stuff. chooses to spread data and teach in a a way that remin us the wrold isn't that easy to tackle. be thickskinned and be able to hear ideas thst you don't like and you might just learn something. take the prof for an eye-eopening experience.

if a person is not sure of there religon or faith, he can shake you. but college is to make students think and challenge them. if you want to remember you are not longer in hi school take this guy. for all your classes. he loves to learn and it makes me want to learn to.

pretty clear rules in this mans class. not hard to pass at all. catch is he puts responsibility squarely on student. stresses anylitucal thinking alot.takes a bornig subject n makes it interesting. he is def not for all but if u know what real world is like he represents.

I loved going to this class proffesor menchan really makes you think. His lectures are really good and the test are easy if you pay attetion in class and take notes. Overall its a really good class if you can ignore his use of language and stick it out you will love it too and he's a really funny.

If you take his blanket statements about religion w/ a grain of salt & keep your thoughts to yourself, you'll be fine! We only had 3 tests & 1 essay. THAT'S ALL! His lectures are hilarious! His tests are straight from his study guides & his study guides are straight from his lectures. He curses a lot. Google him, you'll get how he's like.

Hands down easiest humanities online teacher at polk! He is a character with a great sense of humor! Responds to his email within 24hours. do the homework, discussions and two test and you will pass his class! all can be done from home!:)

Menchan may be a flaming liberal, but keep your mouth shut and your opinions to yourself and you will pass. Super easy tests. He made us do a presentation in front of class. Made Humanities interesting as it can be for a boring subject. Easy A in this class if you want it.

Professor Derek Menchan is as crazy as a sprayed roach; but if you have a functioning brain and an open mind, you WILL leave his class with a new understanding of the world around you. I would recommend his class to anyone who enjoys understanding life through multiple world-views.

I found this professor's personality to be very engaging, understanding, fair, and charismatic. As an auditory learner I found his lecturing style to be extremely helpful, he covers subject material that will be on his tests during his lectures. There are 3 types of leaners: Auditory, Visual, and Kinesthetic, pick professors based on your style.

clear as a bell, funny. opens your mind. 4 tests, two papers. if you can't pass this class, there's a real problem. tells you from day one what to expect. be an adult with an open mind and you'll pass with a high grade and have fun.

makes music appreciation class extremely interesting and informative and this could be a terribly boring class and usually is. he has loads of experience in the area, and uses it to create and atmosphere of hilarity and enlightenment. definitely an adult setting with this prof but he tells it like it is and is a totally fair grader.

Menchan was one of the best professors I have ever had! A bit of a potty mouth but what humanities professor isnt? He said that contempory humanities was his favorite class and you can tell that as soon as he walks in the door. He is relatable, hilarious, and will break everything down for you. Tests are so easy if you do the review, word for word.

One of the best! Took him for Music Appreciation, glad I did. Great style. It was an easy class for me, being a musician, but even those who just listen to music will gain a lot from his teaching. He is a solid dude! He may give you a nickname. I take good notes in class and at performance, write the papers, you will do great.

Best professor I have ever had at Polk! Has amazing lectures, that may include a "bad" word once in a while (as if we don't already talk like that). Possibly the best professor at Polk State. Definitely not like your average teacher, which is what stands out the most. He will open your eyes in a good way in my opinion. Makes you understand the world at a different angle which is what most of you need anyway.. he will curse and make inappropriate references at times but its college.. get over it

Menchan is an amazing professor! His lectures aren't dull and boring, but instead inspirational and humorous. There were 4 clear-cut tests and one major 5-8 page research paper, all worth 20% of the overall grade. I love how professor Menchan understands that this is an introductory class to humanities, so he doesn't make things insanely difficult.

My sister told me to take this professor and I don't regret it; his lectures are amazing and I''ve never had a teacher like him before. Take really good notes and don't be afraid to ask questions as sometimes he moves really fast. All in all he's one of my favorites and I'd take him again.

There are so many GREAT things that I could say about professor Derek mechan. However, the characters are limited but professor mechan, is an awesome teacher to take for humanities, as he is funny, gives great lectures, and expands your way of thinking. No book is required; just great notes. He loves what he does and It shows.

Professor Menchan is an excellent professor. He is very laid back and funny. He makes the class fun. I did not have to use the book much at all. He is strict on attendance because he wants you listening to the material he is teaching. The tests are straight from the material he lectures.

SO funny. You take notes during his lectures, he writes important vocab words on the board during lecture, then explains them and you are given study guides with vocab words to find in your notes from the lecture and make your own study guide (optional). must attend one concert and write a paper about it, super easy, no big deal, and so fun!!!

This class was super easy with only 4 tests that he gives you all the answers to and one final 5-8 page paper. His attendance policy is strict and you're only allowed to miss 4 classes. His lectures are always interesting and he allows for class to be dismissed early most days.

college prof--no: UNIVERSITY-level prof. he's a contrarian and can grate on nerves, sort of like LIFE can. if you're ready to be challenged and think outside the box take him. folks who complain about how he challenges students don't bother to read his syllabus

By far one of the easiest class I have taken . We only 2 test the whole semester plus a final which was 3 in total! No homework required and there is only a research paper at the end that is due. Overall super easy class .

This professor is one of my absolute favorites! His lectures are hilarious and engaging. The only bad thing I would say is the end of term paper is a little unclear so you have to make sure you take notes when you go to required concerts. Tests are exactly like the study guides and multiple choice. Highly recommended!!

Hands down one of the best classes I have ever taken. He really challenges you to think about things. He is funny and inspiring and accepts input from other people. If you miss a class you will not get the information you need becasue there is no book but his tests are very easy.

Entirely lecture based, very powerful! Learned more about whats going on in the world in this class than I have in my entire life. He talks about real topics and doesnt hide away from anything. Class discussions are extremely encouraged. All we had were a few tests and a paper at the end of the semester (also has a great sense of humor!)

If you need a humanities class I 100% recommend prof Menchan. No due dates for discussions and the study guides are the tests. Super easy A and I still learned good info.

Professor Menchan is very funny, and his messages always made me laugh. There were 7 VERY easy discussions (3 were only due by the end of the semester), and 3 tests to which he gave you all the answers on a study guide beforehand. Oh, and the answers to every single test question on each test were A! It is a super easy A; I finished with a 100%!

Mr. Menchan was a super easy professor with a super-easy class. Had only one discussion as homework for the week and sometimes had nothing for the week. 3 tests all year in which he gives you the study guide which are the answers to the test in order. I finished the course with a 100, the easiest class ever.

He is a great choice for this class. I took him online for Summer A (6 week course) and the only work you have to do is 2 discussion post per week. Each post is like 2 paragraphs and its topics you have to do research yourself. There is also 2 tests but if you go through the study guide its an easy A. Also no essays and a final exam.

I withdrew from two Humanities classes previously because they were extremely difficult and this class was slower, less reading for my busy schedule, just focus on your discussions and you will be good.

straight forward: he's a well-known artist and ranked scholar, who gives hilarious notes/lecctures on famous old folk. he obviously knows what he's talkmbout and goes out of his way to make class easy and fun, but you can find his papers online; he is very heavy. he travels a lot for his art and is up front about it. great experience

Dude's a riot. you learn things without it seeming you've learned anything.. like you'll come away from his classes with terms and concepts that are mindblowijng but taught in a nonchalant way. don't be fooled by the breeziness of class; he knows his stuff. makes learning fun

Finally a no nonsense class where you learn with. a minimum of fuss. I usually hate philosophy and the arts. this teacher takes a boring class and makes it more palatable . for students looking for a prof to do the miraculous take someone else. students also have to be responsible too. he is smart n fun
