Very helpful when he does assist you, however when he is having a bad day you can tell........ he starts to snap at you.... like it was your fault that he is depressed.

As a teacher he is ok. But sometimes he does get himself confused. What bothers me is his "off colored" and offensive "humor." He makes alot of remarks that should not be made by a person in his position. Especially about women.

Prof Pender is a helpful instructor, who is dedicated to student success. He will go above and beyond to clarify concepts to better help students understand. He also infuses slight humor into a subject that most students find very dull and tedious, therefore making math much more interesting.

I am very happy to have this professor. I do not do well in Algebra and he seems to make it easy for me to understand. He does his best although I have a hard time remembering my formulas. I also wouldn't mind knowing him outside of class. *wink*

I am so extremely happy I took this professor. He made Intermediate Algebra fun and exciting. He explains it very well and he is great to look at as well. It certainly made me want to come to class and learn. I would suggest anyone take him if you need Int. Algebra.

If you fail this class it would only be the fault of the student. This professor gives you opportunities to ask any ?'s after class and office hours. It depends on how much YOU study. One of the best instructors at FCCJ! For the first time in years I finally understood algebra. Mr. Pender makes jokes & funny examples so you can get it. I got a B and I stink at algebra. He goes above & beyond to help, and work with you. Not a flirt w/ the ladies, treats everyone fair. If math is your weakness - take him.

Pender is one of the best teachers I've had in a long time. He does crack jokes thru out the class. Some are funny some are not, but he tries to make the class a little more interstng. I advse coming to every class, he explains evrythng in detail. He does go out his way on Sat 2 meet with anyone who may not understnd. He wants 2 help & see u pass

Prof Pender is an awesome instructor. I am not the best at math, but I have received an A on all test and will pass with an A. He explains math so that a preschooler could understand. He is awesome. too bad he will not be teaching college alegebra next semester.

Professor Pender is an okay math teacher, but my advice is do not take him if you are a math student who already struggles, he is then no help.He talks way to much about nothing and he shows no remourse even if you are trying. you may like him but I do not. Ruth Dellinger is one of the best or professor Givehand is reaaly good too.

Pender has been great. Goofy professor but still cool. I haven't used math in 2+ years since high school and i'm picking it up again easily. Pender is extremely clear, offers to come in on days he doesn't have to, and explains things in ways you can relate it to. His daily rants are funny sometimes too.

mr. pender is great at what he do. he completely explains the work; breaks it down if necessary. i recommend him to everyone, especially if you are not a "veteran" at math. he's also humorous, which makes math a bit enjoyable.

Great professor, funny guy and very helpful. Daily quizzes but he doesn't collect the homework and has extra credit available. Just show up to class ready to learn and don't leave early and you'll be all set.

The best statistics professor you could ever ask for. I love math, but I'm not a word problem person, and let's face it, that's what statistics is. I don't think I would have done as well with any other professor. You must pay attention and do your homework or you will not succeed, but he doesn't overload you. Great professor!

This was the best class! I really enjoyed his teaching and sense of humor. He was very clear in explaining what we needed. I would recommend him to anyone that likes math or not. He really took his time and would answer emails promptly. Please take this class. You wont regret it.

all the math work was done online the math HW and even the test where done online loved it you could take the test 3 times and it woud only take the highest score

He cares, and does everything he can to get you to do what you are supposed to be doing. Have taken him 3 times now and is the first name I look for whenever there is a math based clas I need to take! Highly recommend to everyone!

Mr. Pender was my tutor when I was taking Statistics with Mr. Mellin. He was a Statistics major at the time. He made this class amazingly simple for me. So much so that when I went to solve problems on the board, even Mr. Mellin was stunned. I highly recommend Mr. P as your teacher. Now, working as an RN I see the value in great professors

I am taking hie class online, and he is awesome. I had failed my first attempt to SAT2023 online. He always gets back to you (like the next day) and is very helpful. I would recommend this isntructor to everyone.He's there for you and wants you to do good. This was my favorite online class.

This teacher is the funniest teacher alive! He made class a fun thing to go to while still teaching the subject! He was easy to work with, always helpful if you didn't understand something, and loved to joke. It's good when you can have fun in class and still learn. I recommend any class with him. I'll be taking another math with him.

Professor Pender is probably the best college professor I have ever had! His teaching is straight forward. He makes sure you understand. And he breaks things down to the T. Professor Pender is very straight-forward and one of the best math professors at FSCJ. He does break down every concept and uses humor to help students understand those concepts. If he is available for any math class you might need, take him!

Prefessor Pender is an amazing teacher. Homework is assigned but is not collected/graded. If you do the homework you will pass the class with an A. Grade is based on test and quizes. Very humurous. If you are easily offended do not take his class because he does make good jokes. Always available during office hours if you need extra assistance.

Mr Pender is the best math teacher I ever came across. He is so pateint, very helpful and he cares about his students. I thought this class was going to be hard since it's online but he made it so easy. What I love about him the most is the way he explain the questions. Absolutely great professor! I took this class online and he allowed us the entire semester to finish the class with three times on taking any tests. No quizzes just homework and tests. Stats is not easy but he will help you anyway he possibly can.

Professor Pender makes learning math easy. Although he has an "offbeat" sense of humor, his jokes have purpose and usually support the skills that he is trying to teach. I haven't taken algebra in over 20 years and I was very concerned that I would have problems with learning it after being out of school so long. Professor Pender made it easy!

OMG he is a helpful and wonderful teacher. he will show you several ways to solve a problem and so will be more helpful then others. he will even help you regardless on where you are on the work. I passed his class because it is helpful and if you are ahead in class you dnt have to stay there the whole time.

Mr Pender is hilarious! I've enjoyed his class everyday. He is helpful when asked questions, and very nice. He loved to make his own math videos which are WAY BETTER than what mylabsplus or mathxl produces. If you have a chance to take his class dont pass it up:)

I really learn a lot from Professor Pender. He is very laid back and he encourages everyone to stay focus and ask questions. He is available in the learing lab to assist with any problems and explains techniques/formulas step by step. I has videos that he makes that are extremely helpful too. He doesn't rely on the textbook at all.

Mr. Pender is AMAZING! You do not have to buy the textbook. You will use MathXL. You do not have to show up for every class. He is very willing to help you understand. His class you had to use MathXL so most of the work is online, but lecture are in class. He's really nice and explains step by step. If you do the work then you'll be fine. Going to class wasn't mandatory, AS LONG as you pass the class with an A, B or C. But yeah overall I got an easy A

The tests are proctored but everything else was online. He was very quick to respond to questions and gives you several opportunities to improve your grade. You'll get out what you put in

Professor Pender tells you what to expect upfront through e-mails and the syllabus. Responds to e-mails quickly, offers extra videos and open office hours, even though I took a online class. He is very encouraging & wants you to succeed. I am taking him for College Algebra as well!

I absolutely despise math of all sorts.I actually started liking math after I took Mr. Pender, who was very lenient, and extremely helpful. Yes he can be a jerky at times but, he makes up for it through staying after class to help you and will help you pass if your struggling like I was. Def. taking him for MAC1105.

I have taken Professor Pender for college algebra and intermediate algebra. I am by far not very good at math but he teaches in a way my 7 yr old can understand. Do your homework come to class and you will pass. If you don't its your own fault. He goes out of his way to prepare and accommodate his students. Highly recommend him !!!

Do all your homework and show up for the tests for an easy A. Has great instructional videos for the homework or you can go to class and get help.

I took a Hybrid class. If you are decent at Math, you will pass. Complete all of the homework on time, watch the videos he provides, and you will do fine. I am NOT good at Math and passed. He is very helpful and cares about you doing well!! The people saying he isn't fair, didn't put effort into this class.

Professor Pender struck me as "arrogant" during the first week of class. Boy was I so wrong! He is awesome. He truly knows his stuff and wants his students to pass. The tests are very easy to pass, and are very similar to the practice tests provided. Anytime I had questions during class, he always took the time to stop while teaching and answer me!

Everything you're looking for in a math professor!!! Great at explaining difficult concepts. Gives opportunities to ask questions, but also good at reading students. If he sees confused looks, he stops and makes sure students understand before moving on. Makes himself approachable and has a great sense of humor! I highly recommend taking him!

I will be taking professor pender for my next math class. He Is an amazing math teacher! I'm raving because this is my second time taking this class and I finally understand math. Professor Pender is a great teacher. I am awful with math and he has made it easier to understand. I have passed my last two math classes with him and now I'm onto the third. He also uses color pens while teaching and I found this to be very helpful to see how a problem breaks down.

If you aren't stong in math, Derek Pender is the guy you want as your professor. His lectures are extremely helpful and will answer any and all questions you have no matter how stupid they may be. He makes really corny/nerdy jokes during the lectures so it sorta helps you pay attention. The only way you'll fail this class is if you never show up.

He's clear about his expectations and is more than willing to help students out if they were confused during the lecture. Exams are based off the homework and practice test, so even if they are "optional", do them, they will help out tremendously. He's pretty funny too, his random stories keep you entertained in class!

He is an amazing professor because he does whatever he could to help you pass if you're willing to do work. Always jokes around to make sure his lectures don't put his students to sleep and he could be hilarious at times! Professor Pender was consistently inconsistent is my best description. Homework online. Test written. Sometimes you got a pretest sometimes you didn't. You must study the material. If you do the time an A is within reach. Take good lecture notes. He uses MathXL which I felt wasn't nearly as helpful as My Math Lab.

The test was written (it's only 4) but homework is online this can be confusing to some. You have to study all the material or you will be seriously screwed when it comes to the test. He was a pretty good professor with the average white guy dry humor and sends very sarcastic emails out. He has a pet peeve for those who can't factor.

Professor Pender spoke a language of algebra i had never heard before in my entire life! he made algebra fun and super easy to learn. this dude is a straight up dope teacher and every math professor should take a few pages out of his book. hes funny and occasionally goes on hilarious rants about things that grind his gears. awesome must take prof!!

Professor Pender is a gem of an algebra teacher. he gives great in class lectures and you will have loads of great notes and examples to help with the online homework. hes super funny and makes algebra interesting. if you fail this class its because you tried to fail or didnt attend. hes really helpful and replies to emails in a timely manner.

Stereotypical Algebra class with MathXL and online in class Tests. 4 tests Total. His lectures are very thorough. If you do the homework without using help(symbolab, etc), you can't fail. The tests are easier than the homework and pre-tests.

He is a Great Professor, His lectures are very detailed, lots of examples in class willing to stay after class for additional help if needed. Do your homework without using help me solve this in mathxl and the test will be a breeze. He tell interesting stories that make learning fun. I took him for 1033 an Mac 1105. I would recommend !

Pender will work over problems in class that directly correlate to the homework. The key is to work the homework as he goes over it during class to save time. You work at your own pace and he uploads a practice test prior to every exam. His humor may be slightly edgy for some, if you can handle a joke you should be fine.

Pender is a great math teacher. He teaches using problems directly from MathXL, never skips steps, and usually has printed notes to follow along with. Take good notes and do the homework and practice tests and this should be an easy A. There are four tests and you can retake tests 1-3. I would take him for all my match classes if I could.

Pender is truly a gem in the mathematical world of professors. He has a silly sense of humor and is usually in great spirits in class. He goes over everything in great detail and makes himself readily available to help anyone struggling. He has a way of teaching math that actually makes sense to normal humans, and that is difficult to find!

pretty much do it yourself. He uses "my math lab" and gives due dates for assignment. your success is up to you. personally, i like it, because you can practice as much as you want. the practice exams have unlimited attempts and are almost identical to the actual exams, so once you master that, you will definitely pass the exams. Its up to you!!!

Prof. Pender is awesome. I've taken him twice and wish I could take him again. He cares about his students more than any I have met so far. During his class I fell on some tough times and he was there to help so that I could get through his class. If you want a great learning experience with a good guy who isn't super PC, hes the guy. 10 out of 10.

Prof Pender makes Math easy. It's obvious he cares about students learning, he provides hints on test, will stay after class to help. Responds quickly and graciously. He jokes, and tries to make math fun. I highly recommend taking his class.

This is one of the best math professors I have ever had. I truly hate math he breaks each problem down so you can understand. He is a true asset to FSCJ.

Professor Pender goes through handouts in class that have problems taken straight from the homework. He has a dry sense of humor but he is hilarious. He makes sure that you understand the problems before he moves on. If you have a question about the homework he will explain the problem through email as well as in class including vidoes. Hes great!

Great lectures

I took Professor Pender's classes for Intermediate and College Algebra and earned an A in both. He's a great teacher who uses a lot of relatable metaphors and stories to help you learn the algebra. He's not super PC and quite humorous, which is something I greatly appreciate and feel made the lectures much less dry than they could be. I recommend!

I enjoyed his class, even though it was online and a 12-week class it was good. You have to watch the videos and take notes and practice a lot, but you will make it!

This class was worth taking, he was kind of funny and is clear so you understand what you are doing. On tests, if you do not show your work COMPLETELY, you will get points taken away which sucks because I think he reads a little too far into that. The last test was extremely difficult but no final! He also gave handouts so not a bunch of notes.

I loved Pended when I took him for this class. Mine was an in person class so attendance was mandatory. He was very funny and went out of his way to made sure everyone understood him. I would highly recommend him!

Professor Pender is literally the nicest guy. He only has 4 tests & he puts bonus questions on each one. If you do your homework you can literally fail the tests and still pass. His notes are amazing and he works through it all literally step by step. He even factored it out for us bc he wanted us to get the steps right. Hes also really funny.

I took this class as a C session class. It was also online using Pearson. Everything you need to do well in the class is right in front of you, but you have to dedicate yourself to sitting down and getting the work done. Dr. Pender will give you a heads up if he notices you are falling behind. Good guy, but he doesn't like excuses.

I HATE math and usually barely pass math classes, but I got a B with Professor Pender! He is very personable and awesome at giving relatable tips for remembering things for tests. The grading is much better than other professors - he still gives most weight to test scores, but gives a fair amount towards homework. Highly recommend this professor!

Proffesor Derek has been great. I took his online class if you keep up with the work and do everything, you should be fine. He is very understanding and flexible with the students and seems to understand why some of us are taking on line courses instead of being at a campus. He is very helpful. His great attitude makes a big difference.

I took Topics of Math online course with Prof. Pender. This course was pretty much self-taught with the use of videos from Prof. Balsamo whom is also a good choice. Would recommend this course to anyone needing a math credit that doesn't need the tougher/advanced math skills in their future endeavors.

This is the best math professor Ive ever taken. Hes really funny and shows you great ways to remember things. I was able to jump to MAC1147 because of this class. Theres no textbook but there is mathxl. Theres lots of mathxl homework

Easy online math course. He clearly outlines what he expects from you and puts out all assignments in the beginning so you could work ahead if you wanted to. He was super flexible and understanding during COVID-19 even though it was an online class. He does assign a lot of homework, but it makes the class easy to pass if you complete it all.

He is a good teacher and makes math seem easy. Just show up to the lessons and do the homework as you learn the material

My favorite so far. Uses MathXL, will answer any questions, (even if it's HS baby stuff) without drama or "you should know this" comments. He truly cares, laid back, uncomplicated, CLEAR, and flexible. Lectures are clear and he goes over all the different scenarios you may find. I was scared of math, but he turned it into not a big deal. 10/10

I took his class in spring and it was pleasant. There is a good amount of hw to be done and he offers practice exams. The more you do those, the higher the chances will be to get an A on the exam because both are similar. Pender is very humorous and is willing to help you. Do the HW & complete the practice exams not once but many and you will rock!

Professor Pender was a great professor. Probably one of the most understanding people ive ever worked with! Our class used SmarterProctoring for our exams, which wasnt always an easy site to navigate or use, but Professor Pender made sure i got it figured out! Hes a great professor!

Prof Pender gives you everything you need to get an A. He uses MathXL and you can do hw at your own pace, with unlimited tries. All four tests have a corresponding practice test, which made preparing for them a breeze. He actually teaches you the math during lectures. I liked taking it online because I could revisit the lectures while doing hw.

I have a difficult time learning math and paying attention but he definitely did an amazing job teaching the material. Would definitely recommend to anyone who is nervous taking a math course. I understood perfectly and he shows multiple ways that he can teach the subjects. He always has a corny but funny analogies.

Pender does a good job at grounding math in context and providing clear examples. This makes the material much easier to retain and understand. He also explains the logic and reasoning behind math. I've never been a good math student, but Pender proved that it's possible to learn if the teacher knows what he's doing.

If you take this class online only, just be ready to do the work on your own. The professor is willing to help just have to ask for it. He does send out good information to get through homework. If you can, take this class in the summertime. Work at your own pace and don't miss deadlines. MyMathLAb.

Pender is super sweet. He's always willing to help and will make you videos if you're stuck on homework problems. He's hilarious and his lectures are clear and easy to follow. 3 main tests and weekly take home quizzes are cake. I would definitely take him for higher math because he makes math approachable and less intimidating.

He's very kind and funny but simply put, don't take this class unless you're already really good at math. He just talks and goes through problems on the board at his own pace for the entire class. No makeup work, tests or extra credit. Homework is on MyMathLab and there's 4 tests. If you fail the tests, you fail the class. Only allows 1 absence.

The Professor provided a wide variety of extra Youtube videos beyond the textbook and standard reference material. Was accessible and responded to email within the hour.

Prof. Dereck is amazing.I took his class online and loved algebra (Math is not my thing). He recorded his lectures and sent them to us every week. It is easy to understand him and he has clear explanations.I was able to ask anything to him and promptly he answered without judgment.I would take him again but expect a lot of homework and study hard.

Professor Pender has a clear teaching style, but success in the course requires diligent studying of the handouts, quizzes, and practice exams. Unstuck AI was a helpful tool alongside the course materials to prepare for exams.

Professor Pender is an awesome teacher and I am not that great at math but he helped me understand all the problems. I'm not that good at math and i found myself getting B's on my math test, take accountability of your time and actually try to learn the math and go to tutoring and this class is easy! This is the real world you actually have to try!

Absolutely amazing professor. I wish he could be my math professor next semester too. Very accessible and explains math in a way that is way to understand and remember. Highly recommend him!
